If you look carefully, the way that dark haired girl looks at the other...it very similar to lu guang sometimes stealing glances of cheng xiaoshi. And the line, she would be my death if I had been her 'partner'

Cheng Xiaoshi experiences her emotional turmoil as a montage of their college life, the happy days they were together followed along. He gets upset, justifiably. (I cried) Lu Guang informs him that she didn't go anywhere, and cried all night at her home instead. Shoutout to Cheng Xiaoshi for having this quintessential sapphic experience of heartbreak.

as if he is speaking to Cheng Xiaoshi and us, the audience, Lu Guang passes this comment

he technically mocks. Cheng Xiaoshi gave ooc performance for Emma, and Lin Zhen was so on point. Seriously, Lu Guang, I 200% support cheng xiaoshi's reaction :

this time, lu guang doesn't mock. And his face is hidden. something stirs his heart too.

you know right which flower symbolism is associated with lu guang's character?

lu guang does not rationalise, he doesn't make fun. cheng xiaoshi is pleasantly surprised but lu guang...we can't see his face.

in fact, this seems to be a visual strategy the show makers have adapted to signify lu guang negotiating his emotions that are very intimate to him. His face is not shown to the camera.

you know, these are the threads I picked up when I was fine watching link click. something extremely complex is going on with this man, as a fellow scorpio who feels intensely, I could sense that. he seemed to wear an attitude that masks the tempestuous other, there is always a murmur of a subterranean flow that is in constant flux. you can feel the subtle waves resurfacing on his countenance throughout the course of the two seasons.

this nuanced development of how we are made to perceive lu guang is brilliant. he really feels a lot colder in the first few episodes, or he acts like that, consciously or unconsciously puts up that mask as a psychological defence... except he continuously falls into situations that unravel his delicate core. There is a disruption, always that jolts that image and we get to peek into his subjectivity. Happened in the Emma episode when he was comforting cheng xiaoshi to sleep. bro could call cheng xiaoshi names but to his pain, bro cares.

Yes, they want him! He’s so important to them. But I think she knows that to him, as he is? This is another family that doesn’t want him, that finds him lacking.

Franny met Lewis right as he met his forever parents, minutes after!! She built a large and expansive family with him, one that is loud but one that always wants each other. She knows how lonely and dejected he was at that age, how worn down he felt. How much love he had to give and how much love he felt he lacked.

Franny has to look Lewis at the age she met him and tell him this family can’t have him. She can’t even tell him why.
