Late evening in the HYBE dance studio, a familiar safe haven flooded in warm yellow light and mirrored walls. The room echoed with the deep bass of the track Dino had chosen - a groovy, upbeat funk blend with layered percussion and synths that made you want to move the second it played.

'Leave the door open' by Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak and Silk Sonic.

You stood beside Dino, both facing the mirror, bodies swaying in time. The routine he had been working on for Danceology had sharp isolations - chest pops, smooth glides across the floor, a quick foot shuffle that transitioned into a body roll, and a precise turn that ended with a shoulder drop in sync with the snare.

“You got the turn right, but you’re hesitating on the shoulder pop,” Dino pointed out, gently nudging your elbow as you paused.

You pouted dramatically, “I am popping! It’s just a soft pop. Like… popcorn before it explodes.”

Dino laughed, loud and unrestrained. “Okay, popcorn. One more time. From the top.”

The both of you started again - one, two, slide, roll - and this time, you nailed the shoulder pop with exaggerated flair, even giving a mock serious face toward the mirror. Dino cracked up mid-routine, nearly stumbling out of his glide.

“You’re the worst,” he wheezed, “I can’t dance when you pull that face!”

“You’re welcome for adding comedic value,” you smirked, flicking your hair dramatically. “That’s showbiz.”

You kept going - the music looped in the background as sweat began to shine on your temples, the atmosphere light and filled with constant bursts of laughter or playful teasing.

At one point, Dino took your hand without thinking, leading you into a freestyle section he hadn’t choreographed. “Just follow my lead,” he said, and you moved together in sync - steps soft, connected by the rhythm and something unspoken in your smiles.

As the song faded out, Dino held the final pose a second longer than needed, catching your gaze in the mirror - his hand still loosely holding yours.

It was subtle, but you definitely didn’t miss the way his ears burned a deep red before he slowly let your arm fall back to your side.

“You ready to go again?” he asked with a cocky grin, propping his phone up against the mirror, already recording.

“Always. Try to keep up, Channie.” You laughed, clapping twice to get him back into position.

He scoffed with mock offense. “I choreographed this!”

The music floated in, that signature blend of retro soul and velvet groove. Dino started first - a smooth glide into a body roll, his hands slicing the air with practiced precision. You followed a beat behind, mimicking his movements with a softer edge - graceful, expressive, with a glimmer in your eyes that matched his.

You moved together, mirroring each other through glides, waves, and shoulder pops that melted into one another. At the pre-chorus, you stood face-to-face, leaning in just enough for your fingers to brush at the highlight of the move - a playful smirk tugging at your lips, and a subtle brow raise from Dino.

Midway through another pass, Dino spun cleanly - only for his sneaker to slide unexpectedly on a streak of sweat glistening on the floor. With a panicked noise, he lost balance, his limbs flailing briefly before crashing down to the ground with a heavy thud.

You burst out laughing. “Are you okay-”

Before you could finish, you slipped on the same spot, landing beside him with a surprised yelp. The music kept playing as the both of you laid there, both blinking at the ceiling, out of breath and mildly bruised - and then came the full-blown laughter. The kind that shakes your shoulders and leaves your stomach sore.

“You fell like a baby giraffe,” you gasped between giggles.

“Look who’s talking,” Dino shot back, grinning through the pain.

Your laughter slowed, the music now drifting into the bridge, and Dino turned to look at you - eyes crinkled, cheeks flushed, hair stuck slightly to his forehead.

“Hey,” he said quietly, breathing heavy but smiling, “I’m really glad you agreed to do this with me.”

You bumped his shoulder playfully, cheeks flushed. “Just admit you needed someone to match your energy, Lee Chan.”

He chuckled. “I think I found her.”

You’d laid there for a moment longer, the groove of the song wrapping around the both of you like a blanket - and when you finally sat up, Dino offered a hand, tugging you to your feet with that same easy charm.

“You got that on video right?”

Dino smirked. “I'll send it into the groupchat later.”

“Dino!”

It's all too easy to get lost in the crowd in a city as crowded as New York. You slip in among a throng of tourist standing around like a flock of pecking hens, their faces dipped down at their phones, huddled over google maps as they try to figure out how to get to Broadway as if it's not within goddamn walking distance, right down the street.

In a nervous habit, you fiddle with the watch on your wrist. Your eyes flick over the bright light that tells you it's 11:28pm.

Which means, there's still 32 minutes left.

God this is the slowest hour you've ever lived through in your life.

You squeeze yourself in the back, behind a woman with a large hat and larger sunglasses, even though it's evening and the sky is near black. The only things left illuminating the sky now is glaring shop signs, aggressive LED lights, and the mega-spectacular ads display that is brighter than the goddamn sun.

Peering over the madness of the crowd, you try to spot the familiar sight of his all too recognizable build looming over everyone else.

But there's nothing.

He's not here. You let out a long held in breath, your chest sagging with relief. Of course he wouldn't be here.

Times Square has over 300,000 visitors passing through every day. 300,000 sweaty, exhausted individuals drenched in perfume and deodorant that would make it impossible to pick up your scent. Thousands of people speaking all at once, over the angry noise of honking traffic that would make it impossible, even for him, to pick up the sound of your distinct footfall.

No, He won't be able to catch you here. That's why you came here after all.

You glance down at your watch again. 11:31.

Shit! How has only three minutes gone by?

Shaking your head, you look up at the sea of people.

You'd better get moving. Even in a crowd, if you stay still for too long, it won't be safe.

Walking briskly down the wide street, it's a struggle to squeeze through the ever moving crowd as the glaring lights change from makeup ads to theater marquees. You're peering over your shoulder with every three steps you take, constantly expecting the familiar sight of his messy curls to peek out a foot above the crowd.

He's so damn tall there's no fucking way you'll miss him if he's found you. You'll get plenty of advance warning, you reassure yourself as you continue to move forward.

Your eyes settle over your watch again.

11:46. Fuck you sideways.

You know you shouldn't keep checking it every two seconds like this, because all it serves to do, is to ratchet up your blood pressure so high you're going to need to start taking medication for it.

How is time moving so slow. You shake your head in exasperation, and for a fraction of a second you swear you see it.

You freeze. Your back feels like ice, cold damp sweat breaking out along your spine. You snap your eyes back but there's nothing there now. Nothing but an anonymous crowd.

What the-- How could he have just disappeared into thin air?

You glance at your watch: 11:46. Gotta be kidding. Is time standing still now? Has it just decided to stop moving altogether?

You force yourself to step forward and ignore how your knees seems to cave at your own weight as you sink into the pavement with every step.

In the corner of your eyes you spot him. Clearly this time. Real. Not a figment of your imagination. He's only a few steps away from you. The familiar pair of glowing scarlet eyes fixed on you.

Oh fuck, shit. Shit! Your heart races at the sight, beating so hard you think you feel it in your lungs. You're already sprinting in the opposite direction without thought and the only thing guiding you is the pure impulse to escape.

You push through the crowd, sprinting forward without taking in your surroundings. All you care about is to get away as your gaze is fixed on your watch.

11:52. Eight more minutes. You just need to stay away for eight more minutes.

You keep running as the crowd seems to thin, and the colorful lights and noise of traffic fades away. Then you finally stop, catching your breath to look up at your surroundings.

It's empty and void of people. A large empty van is blocking the narrow alley from view of the main street, and there's an unlocked gate that you've come through.

On the other side from where you've come from there's a tall bricked up wall as far as the eye can see-- a dead end.

How the fuck did you manage to find the only deserted dead end alleyway in central New York?

Shit you need to get out of here, you won't be able to run away if you're trapped here.

You glance one more time at your watch.

11:57. Three minutes. 180 seconds. It's all you need and then you'll win.

You turn your heel back towards the gate. But it's too late.

The dim light of the alley is eaten up by a large and imposing shadow.

He's already here.

The familiar navy blue and the menacing red sprawled across his chest fills your vision, blocking your only path to escape. All you see is red eyes glowing so bright it lights up the dark alley with it.

"Time's up," he says, mouth curled into a mocking smile so wide that you can see his fangs peek out from his upper lip.

That's when you realize you are well and fully trapped like the helpless prey you are in his spider's web. You're right where he wants you.

God you're so damn stupid. You were safe in the crowd. But one sight of him had you spooked and running into the only alley to be found in all of New York.

Shit.

He'd planned this all along. The bastard's must've been the one who opened the gate. And you had ran in here like some scared witless rabbit straight into his trap.

You could try to escape him. Some vain, silly leftover pride in you, is adamant that you still have at least two whole minutes to get away.

He steps closer, and you can't help but instinctively step back as he does.

You know it's a game. Know that he would never hurt you, but that hungry and predatory red glow in his eyes has fear spiking along your spine all the same.

And of course you do. It's hard not to, when the bastard's got you pinned against a brick wall in an abandoned alley like something out of a horror movie.

Fuck. He's taken this way too seriously. You don't know why you had suggested the world's dumbest hide and seek with this competitive and unreasonable man.

He presses you into the hard brick behind you, like there's anywhere left for you to go. And you can feel it. The proof of his excitement pressing up against your stomach, pinning you against the wall. He's hard.

~About My Main Oc's(The Main 4)~

Nicki Ohnosaki (DS): Is the Shadow Hashira(Ranked as 4th strongest)who took former Flower Hashira, Natsuki Ohnosaki's rank in the core (Etc:Joined the Core at: 16 Former Age:21). She was raised in a house of 2 younger siblings and 1 older sibling, each one with their fair share of abuse by their father, Natsuki being the oldest was the only sibling who could stand up for all her siblings (Natsuki was 9, Nikki was 7, Inosaki was 4, and Kai was 2). On the night of August 18th their family was slaughtered with the only survivers being, their father, name is Timoko Ohnosaki (who got turned into a demon by the lower moon who slaughtered their family), Natsuki Ohnosaki(The oldest sibling of 3, after the slaughter became a slayer at 15 and at 18 because a Hashira to revenge the death of Kai Ohnosaki and her mother Momisuke Ohnosaki), Nikki Ohnosaki (The 2nd oldest of 3 after the slaughter she was taken under Natsuki care becoming a slayer and Natsukis Tsugoku at the age of 16, After Natsuki's death she takes her place ranking one rank higher {at 4th} Getting the title 'Hashira' for her speed, senses, and fighting tactics), and last Inosaki Ohnosaki (The 2nd youngest of 3, after the slaughter he was taken care of by Taro{Natsuki's Bf, Light Hashira}and Nikki after training sessions with Natsuki, after Natsukis/Taros murder, Inosaki makes the decision of becoming a medic to help slayers and the injured in general while Nikki was out on missions doing her role as a hashira. Present he works in the Butterfly Mansion with Ms. Aoi, Shinobu, and the Caterpillar sisters)

(Natsuki's Death & Nikki's Revenge With a Fatal Price.

-Natsuki's mission was against a lower moon, lower moon 2 {her own abusive father} the master had sent her with light hashira, Taro Rimko both were sent on the night of March 23rd and never were seen after that day. The mission was normal until they had found the twisted game of the demon, bodies hung by trees some didn't even have most of their limbs, Both Hashiras were left in pure disgust Taro learned to pray from his father and Gyomei and decided to do so as Natsuki yelled out for the demon to reveal themselves. The demon listened to the command as Natsuki's eyes widened, Taros blind eyes focused on the demon from hearing... It was Timoko Ohnosaki but a uglier and more blood thirsty father, it didn't take long for the rage and flame to strike, the battle lasted until the brink of dawn, Timoko had to finished the two quick.. {TRIGGER WARNING⚠⚠}

Taro was the first to be demolished, his eyes were targeted first one being poked out and held in the hand of lower moon 2 and lastly when Taro was distracted with his bleeding eye, he was K. Oed with his head being ripped ripped off right in front of Natsuki making her boil with rage since he'd token another loved one, her blood boiled as she decided to attack out of anger, that didn't end well.. {TRIGGER WARNING⚠}

The lower moon gripped her head ripping it back before stabbing his fingers into her throat, slashing it aggressively. The sun finally rose, Timoko had fled, leaving Natsuki's body next to her lovers as they both rotted in their own piles of blood.

-Story 2: it was the final battle, Nikki was faced with the death of Tokito Muichiro and Kocho Shinobu, her eyes filled with sarrow as she placed flower clips onto their covered corpeses after she had shredded her demon father mouthing the words 'You'll never be granted with a second chance, not by the devil himself' the battle between her and her father was harsh, loosing vision in her left eye from a bloody slash along with multiple bruises and cuts, but it was finally over she had better demons to take care off, to revenge the lives that had been lost to such merciless creatures. The war was finally over.. Down on her knees with a missing hand, and blind in her left, she'd had survived with a fatal price of her limbs.. She had survived to see the light of day... She had survived to see her brother.

Peace finally came over the remaining survivors of the corps, and peace to all the lives who fight and died in battle. The wind blew as silence was between the two Ohnosaki siblings as they sat in front of Natsuki's, Kai's, and Momisuke's graves as they gave gifts such as food, flowers and last but not least their tears. 'Stay hello to the others for me'

Miyake Suzui (OP):Worlds most known/Wanted engineer, getting the titles for bombing Marines (basically committing genocide 😭) and helping pirates then backstabbing them by stealing their valuables, getting her first bounty at 10 at the high price of 150,000. Years go by ever since her sister had left her, and her other sister had died she found herself in a floating restaurant called 'Baratie' dressing herself up as a guy to avoid Sanji's simping but it all changed when a group of pirates rulled by Dawn Kreig had started a ruckes with another group of pirates a very small but strong group called the 'Strawhats' she finally revealed her identity fight by the side of Luffy until Kreig was defeated, after this Luffy had offered to be on sea but like Sanji she declined acting as cold as she did when she served them beside Sanji. After s bit of convincing she joined their crew as the loyal engineer besides the simping cook Sanji. Her next bounty raise wasn't until after the 2 year span, raising from 150,000 to 240,000,000. (this was made lazily bc I made this at fucking 12am)

(Family Lore & Years spent engineering)

-Gardening was fun as a family time, each caring for a certain part of the garden, Mother and Father focused on the grass, trees, and bushes, Moko and Michii worked on picking and growing fruits, and lastly Miyake would plant flowers. It was all friendly until a ambush by Marines sent by one of the admirals they wrecked the garden the wrecked parts of the house, their parents forced them three to hide and Moko shoved her and her sisters into a bunker, Michii was angered and Miyake? She cried and cried for her parents (I'd like to add their parents we're wanted pirates!her father with a bounty of 23,000,000 and their mother with the bounty of 15,000,000)but Michii covered her mouth as shots were shot, bodies had fallen. After the ambush the three had gotten out of the bunker, seeing blood stains but no bodies. Days pass Moko and Michii had moved on trying to fix their garden and the destroyed parts of the house. 2-3 months pass and the Suzuis met the same fate of a ambush after the Marines found out about the children, Moko had to step up risking her life.. (The trauma man😭) the other two cried as they hid themselves in the bunker without someone older to protect them anymore, soon enough the same sound of a gun firing arose.. {TRIGGER WARNING⚠⚠}

Moko was shot in the heart ending her young life quickly, the Marines yelled for the other children to come out or they'd destroy the house but they didn't leave both were scared both were horrified, the marine army marched in wrecking and throwing objects as dusk neared they finally left. Immediately at dawn the two sisters made graves for the family they lost placing flowers and their own personal items, Michii placing fruits on her parents graves {oranges and strawberries since it was their favorites) and a hairbrush on Moko grave on the other hand Miyake placed her plush of a cat on her mother's grave, a carton of strawberry milk on her fathers grave, and her kimono on Mokos grave.

-Story 2: years pass since the death of their family, Miyake started to study astrology {Moko loved astrology and the sea} as Michii barely came home to see her own sister. One day Michii called Miyake to tell her news, she was leaving on a 'trip for food' but that made Miyake even more devastated than she already was and before her sister left she mutter out the words 'PROMISE YOU'LL COME BACK FOR ME!!'. After the day her sister left she started to learn how to be an engineer, building new things she never thought she could succeed everytime she knew he family would be proud but at the same time she missed Michii. 2 years pass Michii never came back {She betrayed her own family by joining the Marines, the ones who killed her family, but once the two meet when Miyake is 23 she makes up a reason that she only did it to steal and destroy all their plans} after her 10th birthday Miyake was more mature finally fed up with being alone people were shocked she was still alive she was only a love because of her circus loving friend Paco who'd bring her food and drinks while she worked, one person was so shocked they called marine forces to arrest her. The Marines had got there but no trace of her was seen until... All the ships had blown up, the screams of the Marines who stayed behind filled the people's ears, as she left one of the ships with supplies and weaponry that's how she got her first bounty of 150,000.

Kuro Tsuko(DDD): She is a 16 year old girl who transferred to the same school as the alien geeks, not believing that aliens and ghosts exist until she encountered Acrobatic Silky (episode 5 or 6). She didn't know she was possessed by a ghost herself, the ghost of her samurai father (her father was a samurai who slayed Yokais until the day he died from a demon using his own blade to stab him) Out of the group she has the best strategies, best battle plans, and attack tactics. She is the only one who has no siblings and a living mother so she has no lore. Her personality is sassy, funny, and loyal.

Bingo(OM! OM NB!): The knight who guards the Lord's castle, who loves rocks and Simeon- ignore that. Like the brother she too is a fallen angel due to her lovers lie {will explain in 'Cupid's Lore'} Her personality is like a literal bitch, cussing everyone out, even going as far to throw rocks she collected or bite demons for their disrespect towards Diavolo {She hears all} and really caring and loyal.

-Bingo was the most popular cupid, always on track with building relationships and making them last with her never missing arrows, her herself was beloved by all for her beauty and soft heart {Personality is completely different from her personality in hell}. One day she was confronted by a Royal Knight of the celestial realm, he confessed his love and she accepted it. Everything was sweet from the start but truly this man was hell itself, as years passed he turned more controlling and grew distant but it wasn't enough to break her heart yet...Her lover came back from his duties seemingly annoyed and then yelling at her accusing her of cheating!? She denied it {obviously she didn't, like she's cupid just like she sore loyalty to her job she sore loyalty to her relationship} but that wasn't enough to make him believe, she truly was on the brink of being a weeping angel.

-Story 2: After the rumors had spread of her cheating it finally reached the god. When she was brought to his mercy to explain her sin she denied and finally broke before she was banished she let out her anger on the god and her lying lover.. She was finally banished and fell from the light clouds swearing she'd never forget the betrayal she felt during those final weeks and the friendship she made during all the years.

In addition, Amirah and her calf have started to bond inside the barn and have already started to walk, said Sacramento Zoo in a Facebook post. On March 11, 2025, the family will have the chance to go out into the side yard just off the main giraffe habitat near the barn. Winter 2021 Anime Worth Watching!

Since 2020 basically sacrificed itself to give us the most stacked anime season of all time, I’m currently buried under the weight of almost 20 shows airing per week. So for anyone who’s looking for some anime to watch this winter, here’s some first impressions! I’m speed running my list this time by only talking about the new shows...because otherwise this would be my great American novel. 

If anyone’s interested, I have master lists for both 2020 anime and 2019 anime, because there’s no shortage of fun things to find. 

New Shows!

And before anyone asks, So I’m A Spider, So What? isn’t on here, because CG spiders freak me out.

Cells At Work Code Black: This...less comedic spin off of Cells At Work (made by a different studio) takes the wholesome concept of Osmosis Jones meets cute anime girls and turns it on its head. In this much more depressing version, we follow a rookie red blood cell who works in the body of an overly stressed, alcoholic smoker who puts every strain on the body imaginable. I love Red Blood Cell AA2153 and his co-workers, but man am I glad we get the regular Cells At Work airing this season too, because I need something fun and uplifting after seeing my sweet son go through hell every episode. 

*Heaven’s Design Team: Have you ever wondered how God came up with some of the weird ass animals that live on this planet? Like, what’s the deal with giraffes? And why can’t we have dragons and flying horses? Well this is a comedy about the engineers and designers in heaven creating the new animals that are going to inhabit the Earth. That’s it, that’s the show. It’s kind of in the same vein as Cells At Work, having comedy blend with a surprising amount of educational information. If you want something light and funny, this is the show for you (though I don’t think it needs to have full length episodes). I’m just hoping there’s an episode about how the hell the platypus was created. Also it’s the only new one available on Crunchyroll.

Horimiya: A romantic comedy about a girl named Hori who fits the image of a perfect queen bee and a quiet bespectacled boy named Miyamura who never makes an impression at school. When the two meet by chance outside of the classroom, we see that Hori is practically raising a younger brother by herself, and Miyamura is actually a sweet guy who happens to be covered in tattoos and piercings. This show is an exercise in breaking down the images people have of others in their minds, and it’s a concept that really hits home in a fun and meaningful way. Honestly, this has become one of my immediate favorites. The characters have great chemistry, and I can’t wait to see more of them!

Monster Incidents (Kemono Jihen): When big shot Tokyo detective Inugami is called to a rural town to investigate a series of strange animal deaths, he finds a mysterious boy with the nickname Dorotabo who has been shunned by the other children in town. As the detective gets closer to Dorotabo, he discovers that there may be more...inhuman secrets to the boy than he realizes...and Dorotabo discovers that Inugami has some secrets of his own. This is a hard show to sell without spoiling the first episode, but it had twists and turns that kept me engaged from start to finish. I’m really interested to see where the plot goes, because I thought this was going to be something totally different just from the PV and series summary. If it plays its cards right, this could be a great paranormal detective show!

Wonder Egg Priority: A psychological drama about a girl named Ai who starts having dreams about a mysterious egg that promises to give her what she wants most in the world...a true friend. Before long, she begins to see how the dream world and reality are tied together, and trippy antics ensue. It’s hard to say more without spoiling anything, but I had to go back and add this one in because I made the mistake of thinking it was an OVA when it’s actually a full series. And what a series it’s starting out to be. This anime has all the psychological discomfort of a Satoshi Kon product with the beauty and style of something from Kyoani (even though it’s made by Clover Works). It’s really one of those anime you just have to see to understand.

Sk8-∞ (Skate the infinity): An original skateboarding anime from Bones, featuring a typical sports anime protagonist who takes a new transfer student who has never skateboarded in his life under his wing. Together they compete in dangerous races and take the skating community by storm. The character designs rival Appare Ranman’s in outlandish creativity, and I can smell the main characters’ ship dynamic a mile away (considering they’re exactly the same as the protagonists from Robihachi). If you’re looking for some wild and crazy fun with top notch skateboarding animation, don’t skip this!

2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu (Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Club): Yes, it’s another volleyball anime. And no, it’s not just a clone of Haikyu. This story follows Yuni Kuroba, a physically built but emotionally weak teenager who finds out his childhood friend Hajime is moving back to their hometown for high school. Yuni discovers Hajime has become an exceptional volleyball player and they join their school’s volleyball club hoping to turn the unknown team into a rising star. If anything, this anime is much more like Stars Align or Free, where the sport is a backdrop for letting the characters explore their personal problems. Or at least it seems that way after the first episode. I went into this show ready to throw it in the trash because how could anything compete against my beloved Haikyu, but I found myself really enjoying the dynamics of the main duo and I’m curious to see what the rest of the team is like.

And speaking of sports anime rip-offs…..I can’t believe I’m including this but…

Skate Leading Stars: The show where the animators clearly wanted to design another throw away idol anime but saw how popular Yuri On Ice was so they decided to make whatever the hell this show is instead. It revolves around a fictional team sport called skate leading, and we follow the world’s most insufferable main character, a former figure skater named Kensei who wants to return to the ice and join his school’s skate leading team after he finds out his childhood rival is going to compete in the sport. Look, this show is just trashy enough to get a certain type of audience hooked, and it mainly has to do with the best boy of the winter season, Hayato Sasugai, the aspiring team “coach” who pulled most of us into watching this show with his punk appearance, snide comments and smug personality. He’s basically the lovechild of Izaya Orihara and Shizuo Heiwajima in a high school sports anime setting. The show treats itself with the perfect amount of sincerity to get away with being absolutely ridiculous most of the time without making you feel like you’re watching it from a dumpster...like Try Knights. You will know after one episode whether this show is for you. All I can say is, Hayato is worth the watch, and I haven’t seen any 3D animation used for the skating scenes (yet) so that’s a win for me. 

Honorable mention:

Jobless Reincarnation ( Mushoku Tensei): Yet another isekai where the main character is hit by a car (big surprise) and gets reincarnated into a fantasy world...but he happens to remember his previous life and narrates himself growing up as a jaded adult. I’m only including this because it looked amazing animation wise, and I love the opening where getting hit by a car and dying is actually traumatic. And I love the protagonist’s parents (who are retired adventurers who just want to bang all the time). But honestly...the main character is the fucking worst, and I don’t know if I want to keep watching it because of how creepy and weird he is. Like...he’s the hit on your fantasy mom as a baby kind of creepy and weird. But for anyone who wants a cool looking isekai that had an amazing PV, it’s worth checking out.

A deeply hidden memory clawed its way to the front of Logan's mind as they got closer to the studio. "Come on now boys, we're waiting for you," their teacher, who Leo had said was named Serena, beckoned them over. "To the barre, please. Next time, please try to arrive fifteen minutes prior to the start." 

Logan blushed under the inquisitive stares of the five students seemingly ready to begin. 

"Sorry Serena, we had a little...resistance," Leo said. He pointedly did not look at Logan, but Finn had already bounded across the floor to the barre, so it was rather obvious who the guilty party was.   

Serena hummed, a small smile curving her lips. "Well, hopefully by the end of the class those who may be hesitant will be somewhat less resistant, as you put it." 

Serena was a petite woman, her hair white with age and a map of wrinkles on her pale skin. Despite the authoritative air, her hazel eyes held kindness. Nothing like the harsh glare of the lady who had taught his pre-ballet class way back then. 

Leo took his place at the end of the barre. He'd already explained Serena preferred those with more experience at the end, so when they turned around a beginner wouldn't be left with no one in front of them to follow. Finn slipped in quickly next to him, and as much as Logan loved his boyfriend, he wasn't sure he'd be the best example to follow. 

Logan gave his most charming smile as he moved further along, slotting himself in the gap between a wiry middle aged man who looked like he belonged in a suit, and a broad shouldered woman with red hair. They both took a hesitant step to the side. Did I forget deodorant this morning? Maybe that title of ‘smelliest feet’ was well earned in last year's locker room awards.

"First, we will go through some basics, after which we will start with some combinations. We will keep them simple, which means I want to see excellent form from those of you who have been here longer okay?" Serena introduced.

The trades and skills of yesterday and today are highlighted with their iconic figures: Léonard Autier (favorite hairdresser of Marie- Antoinette), Monsieur Antoine, the Carita sisters, Alexandre de Paris, and more recently studio hairdressers. Great names in contemporary fashion such as Alexander McQueen, Martin Margiela, or Josephus Thimister are present with their spectacular creations made from this unique material that is hair.

The exhibition is presented in the Christine & Stephen A. Schwarzman’s fashion galleries of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. The scenography will be created by David Lebreton of the Designers Unit agency.

In an atmosphere where shades of blond, brown and red evoke the main hair colors, the course, divided into five themes, questions what makes hair, in Greek- Roman and Judeo-Christian cultures, an attribute of the animal and wildness and explains why hair had to be constantly tamed to remove the woman or man from the beast.

FASHION AND EXTRAVAGANCE

The first part of the exhibition opens with the study of the evolution of feminine hairstyles, a real social indicator and marker of identity. In the Middle Ages, obeying the command of Saint Paul, the wearing of the veil imposes itself on women until the 15th century. Gradually, they abandon it in favor of extravagant hairstyles that are constantly renewed. In the 17th century, the hairstyle “to the Hurluberlu” (dear to Madame de Sévigné) and “to the Fontange” (after the name of Louis XIV’s mistress) are emblematic of real fashion phenomena.

Around 1770, the high hairstyles known as Poufs are undoubtedly the most extraordinary of Western hair modes. Finally, in the 19th century, women’s hairstyles − whether inspired by ancient Greece, or known as “the giraffe,” in curls or “the Pompadour” − are just as convoluted.

TO BEARD OR NOT TO BEARD

After the hairless faces of the Middle Ages, a turning point occurred around 1520 with the appearance of the beard, symbol of courage and strength. In the early 16th century, the three great Western monarchs: Francis I, Henry VIII, and Charles V were young and wore beards, which were then associated with the virile and warrior spirit. From the 1630s until the end of the 18th century, the hairless face and the wig were the hallmarks of courtiers. Facial hair did not reappear until the early 19th century with the mustache, sideburns, and beard: this century was by far the hairiest in the history of men’s fashion. A multitude of small objects used (mustache wax, brushes, curling irons, wax, etc.) testify to this enthusiasm for mustaches and beards.

During the 20th century, the rhythm of bearded, mustached, and smooth faces continued, until the return of the beard among Hipsters in the late 1990s. The maintenance of hairiness among these young urbanites has given rise to the profession of barber, which had disappeared since the 1950s. Today, the thick beards tend to give way to the mustache that had deserted faces since the 1970s.

The choice of keeping, eliminating, hiding, or displaying hair on other parts of the body is also a subject of history that the exhibition addresses through the representation of nude bodies in visual arts and written testimonials. Hairiness is rare, or even absent from ancient painting. The hairless body is synonymous with the antique and idealized body, while the hairy body is associated with virility, or even triviality. Only enthusiasts of virile sports such as boxing and rugby, as well as erotic illustrations or medical engravings, show individuals covered in hair.

Around 1910-1920, when women’s bodies were exposed, advertisements in magazines touted the benefits of hair removal creams and more efficient razors to eliminate them.

In 1972, actor Burt Reynolds posed naked, hairy body for Cosmopolitan magazine, but fifty years later, an abundance of hair is no longer in fashion. Since 2001, sportsmen being photographed naked for calendars like Les dieux du stade (The Gods of the Stadium) have had rigorously controlled hairiness.

BETWEEN TRUE AND FALSE

Hair styling is an intimate act. Moreover, a well-born lady could not show herself in public with her hair down. A painting by Franz-Xaver Winterhalter, dated 1864, depicting Empress Sissi in a robe and with her hair untied, was strictly reserved for Franz Joseph’s private cabinet. Louis XIV, who became bald at a very young age, adopted the so-called “bright hair” wig, which he then imposed on the court.

In the 20th century, Andy Warhol had the same misfortune: the wig he wore to hide his baldness became an icon of the artist. Nowadays, hairpieces and wigs are used in high fashion, during fashion shows or, of course, to compensate for hair loss.

The natural hair colors and their symbolism are studied along with what they convey. Blonde is said to be the color of women and childhood. Red hair is attributed to sultry women, witches and some famous stage women. As for black hair, it would betray the temperament of brown and brunettes. From the experimental colorations of the 19th century to the more certain dyes from the 1920s: artificial colors are not forgotten. The work of the hairdresser Alexis Ferrer who makes digital prints on real hair is also presented.

TRADES AND SKILLS

The exhibition reveals the different hair professions: barbers, barber-surgeons, hair stylists, wigmakers, ladies’ hairdressers, etc., through archival documents and a host of small objects: signs, tools, various products, and the astonishing perming machines and dryers of the 1920s.

In 1945, the creation of haute coiffure elevated the profession to the rank of an artistic discipline and a French savoir-faire. 20th century hairdressing is marked by Guillaume, Antoine, Rosy and Maria Carita, Alexandre de Paris styling princesses and celebrities. Nowadays, great hairstyling is mainly expressed during the fashion shows of prestigious fashion houses. Sam McKnight, Nicolas Jurnjack and Charlie Le Mindu were invited to the exhibition to create extraordinary hairstyles for top models and show business personalities.

A HAIRY CENTURY

Finally, a special focus will allow us to evoke the iconic hairstyles of the 20th and 21st centuries: the 1900 chignon, the 1920s garçonne haircut, the 1930s permed and notched hair, the 1960s pixie and sauerkraut, the 1970s long hair, the 1980s voluminous hairstyles, the 1990s gradations and blond streaks, not to mention afro-textured hair.

The arrangement of hair in a particular form can reveal the belonging to a group and manifest a political and cultural expression in opposition to society and the established order. More ideological than aesthetic, the Iroquois crest of the punks, the neglected hair of the grunges or the shaved heads of the skinheads are strong moments of hair creativities.

Wearing the hair of another, known or unknown, has an eerie dimension, and this superstition seems well-entrenched. Despite these apprehensions, some creators choose to transcend this familiar material into fashion objects. This is the case of contemporary designers such as Martin Margiela, Josephus Thimister and Jeanne Vicerial. The question of identity, treated lightly or more deeply, is often at the heart of the reasoning, whether the hair is real or fake.
