Keeping screentime under an hour: a guide
I've been trying for months to get the screen time on my phone under an hour. I, for some reason, could not do it. I tried putting screen time limits on, I tried opal, I tried what felt like everything. I got it down from 9 hours a day to three, but that didn't feel like success.
I wanted an hour.
I cracked the code though. I finally snapped and decided not to use my phone at all for a day. Screen time of maybe five minutes.
I got to 59 minutes.
The two minute conversation you had with your mom, looking at the grocery list. That all counts towards screen time. That is all time you are spending on your phone. Previously I had the thought process of "I get to spend an hour on my phone" so in the morning I would read on my phone, or scroll through Pintrest. I would then be upset when I ran out of screen time at eight in the morning and couldn't text my friends.
I am a little more aggressive about keeping my screen time low than many people, but I feel a lot of shame about it, and I think it's good for me and my studies if I keep my screen time lower.

Changing my social media habits Part 2
So I ended up deleting every social media app except Instagram, Youtube, Tumblr and Pinterest.
It is still a lot, but I don’t want to delete those apps. My screen time already reduced, so I’m really happy about that.
Still, I want to have a more controlled use of my social media apps on my phone. That’s why I put timers on every single app. The timer tracks and limits how much time I spend on different apps.
At first I put 60 minutes for Instagram, then I reduced it to 45 and now it’s set to 30 minutes a day. After the time is over, I don’t have any access to the app anymore. I think this works well for me. I plan do that for a while. Maybe until I get used to not spending so much time on the app.
My Tumblr and Pinterest timers are set to an hour each. I generally don’t use the time up, but it still sets a limit for me to not be on my phone too much. But I’m thinking about removing the timer entirely, because my use with those apps is more responsible than with the other ones.
The last one is YouTube and to be honest, I still have no idea what timer to set on that app. I wanted it to be short, but I listen to music with Youtube and do something else in the meantime. So I can basically clean the whole house, while listening to music and then it’s suddenly cut short, because of a timer.
So I set the timer to 3 hours, which really seems excessive. I’m thinking about getting another app for the music and shortening the timer to like an hour or something. I’m still thinking about that.

It's so funny that Sam has apparently has no thoughts about Jo despite the fact they're very clearly inverted characters. Like he saw Jo who desperately wants to hunt even though her mother pushes her to live a normal civilian life and go to college and thought. crazy, not that this is not relevant or relatable to me in anyway whatsoever. I have never felt more removed from a situation in my life.

Just in case any of my beloved mutuals need to see this today: use your nice journals or notebooks or sketchbooks or whatever just do it put something in them use them to create. Whatever you use them for is worth it even if you think it's too rough or not good enough I promise you it is just do it. If you feel like you're messing up a nice object try messing it up a little before you start. Put stickers on it turn the cover into a collage color in the design do smth to "mess it up" to take the pressure off stop holding yourself back

ways to reduce phone time:
Starting this by saying that my screen time use is AWFUL. I spend upwards of 7 hours a day on my phone. This shouldn't continue for the school year because it is time I should be using for other things.
Set app limits- this method works for some people. I don't love it, because it's so easy to bypass, but my goal is to put up as many walls as possible for accessing my phone- even if they're paper.
Deleting distracting apps- this one works well for me. I hate logging into apps, and I don't like waiting to re-download them, so it is a great block for things like tiktok. I do want to post on tiktok and have fun with it, but I can't use it in a healthy way right now, so I'm putting it on hold.
Figure out why I'm on my phone and replace it with something similar but more productive- this one is pretty self explanatory. I spend most of my phone time reading fanfic, and I want that time to be spent doing something more productive, so if I always have a book on hand- one that's easier to get to than my phone, I will usually go for the book.
Make my phone hard to access- for me, this means putting it inside my backpack at the bottom of the front pocket. It is difficult to reach, and usually I just can't be bothered to get it out.
Obviously, these are pretty specialized towards me, but hopefully this is some level of helpful for others hoping to decrease their screentime.

Shout out to Sevika for managing to dodge like, 20 different death flags she had going into this season.
Like she could've easily gotten greedy and went off the deep end to try to take power for herself, gotten killed by any of the main cast, new or old, to establish threat, or even wind up as collateral of the greater conflict. But instead she kept her head straight, made intelligent decisions, knew which battles to fight, and ultimately ended up in a much better position than she started in because of that.
I can respect the shit out of that.

I have pretty much everything tbh i just never use them the way i use tumblr. I exclusively lurk everywhere else. Only other social i actually use is instagram and i post there once every three months.

Changing my social media habits
I realised that my social media habits are not the best. The last week I was recovering from a minor surgery, so I spent a lot of time on the internet, but now that I feel better, I would like to change that.
I spent too much of my time just scrolling on my phone and I noticed, that it indeed has a bad effect on me mentally. So I made a little plan to improve the situation. I already did some of the points, but have to implement others.
Find out which social media apps I use the most
I honestly have multiple social media apps in use. Instagram, Youtube,Tiktok, Reddit, Quora, Tumblr, Pinterest and even Facebook.
Although, I don’t use some of them as often as others.
Delete the ones that aren’t necessary
So I decided to delete the ones that I feel aren’t necessary. Those are apps where I for example don’t have any communication with friends.
Facebook went, because I simply didn’t use it
Reddit and Quora went, because I spend too much time there and only felt worse after
Tiktok went, because it was too addictive for me
So in the end Instagram, Youtube, Tumblr and Pinterest stayed.
I honestly would love to delete Instagram too, but I communicate with some of my friends there and I don’t want to lose those contacts.
I have mixed feelings about Youtube. Do I spend too much time on there? Absolutely! Do I feel better after using it for a prolonged period of time? No! SO why shouldn’t I delete it?...Because honestly it’s useful. I can find a lot of information there. I can listen to music there. It can be enjoyable.
I realised that my biggest problem on Youtube are Youtube Shorts. So I have to find a way around that.
Pinterest is in my mind the most unproblematic one. I sometimes go on there to find some nice artwork and look at aesthetically pleasing pictures.
Tumblr was always a safe space, even though I also have the feeling that people became more hostile here.

I get that some people are upset Eddie isn’t a part of the big emergency BUT he did have an episode that he was almost in every scene except for Maddie scenes, AND this means Eddie and Buck are now both due for an NDE! This opens the door to some exciting possibilities. Possibilities that could include mentions of a certain will. AND given that almost every single character but them has had a recent NDE now, one of them will most likely get hurt on their own OR with each other. Which means the other will have their whole entire attention on the one that is hurt.
