Embracing the Spirit of Giving: Ramadan Charity and Donations in 2024
Introduction:
Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam, is not only a time for fasting and prayer but also a time for reflection and giving back to those in need. During this month, Muslims around the world are encouraged to increase their acts of charity and generosity, known as Zakat and Sadaqah. In 2024, as Ramadan approaches, the call for charity and donations becomes even more significant, especially in light of the ongoing global challenges. This blog explores the importance of charity during Ramadan 2024, highlighting the various ways individuals and communities can make a difference through their donations.
Ramadan Charity and Its Significance:
Ramadan is often referred to as the "month of mercy and blessings," and one of the key aspects of this month is charity. The act of giving during Ramadan is deeply rooted in Islamic teachings and is considered a way to purify one's wealth and earn spiritual rewards. The Quran encourages Muslims to give generously to those in need, stating, "Those who spend their wealth [in Allah's way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve" (2:274).
Ramadan Donation Appeals in 2024:
In 2024, as the world continues to grapple with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and other global crises, the need for charity and donations during Ramadan is more pressing than ever. Many organizations and charities launch special Ramadan donation appeals to support vulnerable communities around the world. These appeals often focus on providing food, clean water, healthcare, and other essential services to those in need, both locally and internationally.
Ways to Donate During Ramadan 2024:
There are several ways individuals and communities can contribute to charity during Ramadan 2024:
1. Zakat: Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a mandatory form of charity for those who are able to pay it. Muslims are required to donate a portion of their wealth, typically 2.5%, to help those in need.
2. Sadaqah: Sadaqah refers to voluntary charitable giving and is highly encouraged during Ramadan. This can include donating money, food, clothing, or other necessities to those in need.
3. Ramadan Charity Appeals: Many organizations and charities launch special Ramadan charity appeals, where individuals can donate money or goods to support various causes. These appeals often focus on providing iftar meals, Ramadan food packages, and other essential services to those in need.
4. Online Donations: With the rise of digital technology, donating online has become easier than ever. Many charities and organizations have online platforms where individuals can donate securely and conveniently.
5. Local Community Initiatives: Supporting local community initiatives, such as food drives, fundraisers, and volunteer programs, is another impactful way to contribute to charity during Ramadan.
Impact of Charity During Ramadan:
The impact of charity during Ramadan extends far beyond providing material support. It also fosters a sense of solidarity and compassion within communities, strengthens social bonds, and promotes a culture of giving that lasts beyond the holy month. Additionally, the act of giving during Ramadan is believed to bring spiritual benefits, as it is seen as a way to seek forgiveness and earn the pleasure of Allah.
Conclusion:
As Ramadan 2024 approaches, the spirit of giving and charity becomes more important than ever. By embracing the teachings of Islam and reaching out to those in need, individuals and communities can make a positive impact and bring hope to those who are less fortunate. Whether through Zakat, Sadaqah, or other forms of charitable giving, the act of giving during Ramadan is a powerful way to embody the values of compassion, generosity, and empathy.

It's time to fix Canada's anti-Palestinian tax code

At the start of the month, Sylvan Adams gave $100 million to Ben-Gurion University. During a Toronto gala for the university’s Canadian fundraising branch, the Canadian billionaire announced the money for “rebuilding and strengthening the south … in the wake of the Oct. 7th attack against Israel’s southern border communities.” Over the past ten weeks, United Israel Appeal Canada has raised $100 million. After a recent Jewish National Fund of Canada fundraiser, the registered charity’s executive Director, Jeff Springer, said, “We raised money for the war during this event.”
Throughout its history, flare-ups in Israeli violence have prompted an outpouring of financial assistance from Canadian Zionists. A significant share of that money has been underwritten by the public.
The Canadian tax code has long been used to subsidize projects in Israel, and pro-apartheid groups have received large amounts in public grants. While little discussed, the “Zionifaction” of charitable status is Canada’s most significant contribution to Palestinian dispossession.
Canadians provide a massive, unique, subsidy to Israel. Hundreds of millions of dollars in public money are annually funneled to a country that has long committed the crime of apartheid, and tens of millions of dollars more go to groups promoting anti-Palestinian policies within Canada. [...]

CRA notifies Jewish National Fund it will revoke Canadian charitable status
Story by Ari David Blaff
The Canada Revenue Agency has notified the century-old Jewish National Fund that it plans to revoke the group’s charitable status in Canada over support for military infrastructure in Israel, a decision the JNF says it will challenge in the courts.
The CRA did not respond to a request in time for publication. JNF CEO Lance Davis directed the Post to the organization’s public statement and contemporaneous newsletter to its supporters.
They added that their appeal intends to show the CRA’s findings are flawed, that the federal body’s procedures are unfair and that there “is a reasonable apprehension of bias in the audit.”
JNF had an earlier run-in with the CRA following a financial audit showing that donations from the organization were used to build military infrastructure for the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). The CRA said the move ran afoul of Canada’s Tax Code concerning supporting foreign militaries.
The CRA has cracked down on other Canadian Jewish charities in recent years, citing similar concerns. In 2019, Beth Oloth Charitable Organization had its charitable status removed for distributing funds aiding the Israeli military.
“Canadian charities are not allowed to fund foreign militaries,” Mark Blumberg, an attorney specializing in Canadian charity law, told the Post by email. “Clearly, there were previously some compliance issues,” Blumberg, creator of CharityData.ca – the largest national database of Canadian registered charities – added. He cautioned that it is difficult to draw conclusions from JNF’s announcement “without reviewing the letters from (the) CRA combined with the letters from the charity to CRA.”
Disenhouse pledged that JNF Canada had worked, and remains committed, to addressing the CRA’s earlier concerns and has strived to avoid a revocation of its charitable status.
“Similar to other charities that support the needs of children, workers, and vulnerable communities we would expect CRA to work with, not against, our charity,” Disenhouse said.
In a statement on Thursday, Shimon Koffler Fogel, CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, said his group “is supportive of JNF.”
“CIJA remains hopeful that JNF and CRA will ultimately identify a constructive resolution, permitting JNF to continue its important work ranging from relief from poverty to environmental reclamation,” he added.

Hey, so, to get serious for a moment, today (July 1st) is Canada Day, the day we officially became a country in 1867. In the centuries before and after, Canada oppressed Indigenous peoples, destroyed nations, and stole children from their families to place in residential schools, where they faced horrific abuse and where many children died. Please consider donating to some of the charities below if you're able.

In light of the escalation of state violence at several protests, I have elected to release my findings on the Canary Mission here.
The canary mission is a shady group of Zionists that doxx activists and students that express support for Palestine in an attempt to silence, intimidate, and defame them.
Some time ago, I was able to link the organization to one Howard David Sterling, an American lawyer who invests in Israeli medical firms. I wrote the report on my site here.
More recently, I found the account that runs their tip submission form. The username was included in the resource URL of the banner image of the form, which is hosted on a service called jotforms, under the username “carlossantanajm”
A google dork turned up two potential candidates: a man from eastern Canada, and a the rock musician Carlos Santana, who played a concert in Israel around 2010 despite backlash. Investigation is underway to conclusively prove the involvement of either of these individuals, but data is scarce.
Also of note was an investigation by Josh Nathan-Kazis into Megamot Shalom: an elusive organization that acts as a front for the Canary Mission. In the report, data from the Israeli charity register is cited but not provided to prove connections between Megamot Shalom and Aish HaTorah, an organization that focuses on pro-Israel media advocacy.
Funding for Megamot Shalom is contributed by wealthy zionists in the US, through the Central Fund for Israel, which routes the money to the Israeli organization so that the donors can claim it on their tax breaks. The connection between the Central Fund for Israel and Megamot Shalom was confirmed by the 2017 Tax returns of the Hellen Diller Family Foundation, who donated to CFI and labeled the reason as “CANARY MISSION FOR MEGAMOT SHALOM”
Two anonymous sources claim that a man named Jonathan Bash (who has ties to Aish HaTorah) confided in them that he ran the Canary Mission. From this info, six other Megamot Shalom board members were able to be named.
Efforts are Still underway to obtain the charity data cited in the report.
More to come soon, for updates follow the #opmonoxide tag.

why is kate working with non-uk/commonwealth businesses?
Firstly, you sent this exact message to multiple people which is a massive no no for me. Feels like you're trying to stir things and so I'm automatically irritated! But anyway. Anon, do you think companies only operate or employ people in the country they were founded in?
NatWest Group - British, based in London. Employs over 60,000 staff members in the UK and award over £13 million to UK charities and communities each year.
Unilever - British, based in London. Employs over 6000 staff members in the UK and supports several UK based charities, as well as being a partner of Heads Together
Aviva - British, based in London with strong links to Canada. In 2021 they employed 16,000 people in the UK and has its own charity supporting communities in the UK
Deloitte - British, headquarters in London. Employs 20,000 people in the UK. Has a charitable Trust which gives funding to UK charities and also sponsored the London Olympics
IKEA UK and Ireland - Parent company is Swedish but is a legally registered UK company operating in the UK and Ireland only. Employs over 10,000 people in the UK. Has a global charitable Foundation which supports charities in the UK including Shelter and Barnardo's. Also supports charitable projects in Commonwealth nations such as Rwanda, Kenya and India
Co-op - British, based in Manchester. Employs over 65,000 people in the UK. Donates heavily to UK based charities and is currently running an £8 million campaign to support UK based mental health charities
The LEGO Group - Parent company is Danish, have two UK offices for the legally registered UK company operating only in the UK. Employs over 1200 people in the UK. Operates a Foundation which is 100% the world's leading corporate champion of the early years. Supports major children's charities in the UK and famously gave a £4 million grant to Cambridge Uni's Centre for Research on Play which sponsored the first ever Professor of Play, Paul Ramchandani, who has supported Kate's early years work.
Iceland - British, based in Wales. Employs over 30,000 people in the UK and has a Foundation which supports UK charities, with a special interest in children.
So if you can tell me which of these organisations doesn't operate in the UK, employ UK staff, donate to UK charities or, of course, reach UK consumers then I could answer your question. Otherwise, I can't as you're not correct.

Why should someone with no relation to the child be on a birth certificate? While the woman it inherited half its genetic material from and the woman who carried it are being erased from the birth certificate?
‘You could just change the law’: The unexpected costs of surrogacy for one Canadian family
By Rebecca Lau & Suzanne Lapoi
Martin Rioux and his husband have dreamt of parenthood for years. After many ups and downs, the Memramcook, N.B., couple decided to have embryos created with donated eggs.
“We knew we were ready for a child. We gave ourselves maybe a horizon of, like, three to four years,” Rioux said.
After struggling to find an egg donor, and also potential surrogates, Rioux’s sister-in-law offered to carry a baby through in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
Federal laws prohibit paying a surrogate for anything other than expenses incurred because of the pregnancy.
Still, the costs of IVF and other expenses have added up quickly — with Rioux estimating the tally at over $60,000.
The costs don’t end there.
He was taken aback when he learned the hospital would automatically put the surrogate as the parent of his future child on their birth certificate.
“And then we need to apply to the court to show that our situation is an exception. That process costs $5,500,” he said.
“You know, we’re going to make it happen. But $5,500 is a lot of diapers and baby formula when you could just change the law.”
In a statement, the province confirmed the person who carried the child is named as the mother on the original registration of birth form, similar to adoptions.
“There is no difference for a hetero or homosexual couple in the process of surrogacy. All couples must apply to the Court of King’s Bench for a declaratory order via The Family Services Act to have either one or both of parties recognized as a parent on a New Brunswick birth certificate for a child born via a surrogate,” wrote spokesperson, Bruce MacFarlane.
The statement goes on to say that the fee to amend the birth registration is $35 and the fee for a certificate is $45. However, “there may also be lawyer fees associated with preparing the documents and attending court to seek the custody order.”
Rioux and advocates say that court process and legal fees would indeed amount to over $5,000.
Fertility lawyer Sara Cohen tells Global News the processes for putting the intended parents on a birth certificate can be easier, and less expensive, in other provinces.
She points to Ontario as an example, where intended parents can have the option of registering the baby in their own name “if they had followed all the laws properly prior to the embryo transfer.”
While she says she “(doesn’t) want to take away from the time and expertise” of lawyers, she believes steps can be taken through legislation that outline the concept of who a parent is and who intends to be a parent prior to an embryo transfer.
“New Brunswick is lagging because there actually is no legislation around surrogacy or children who are conceived through the use of third-party reproduction,” Cohen said.
“Every other province at this point has legislation that deals with the concept of, and the reality of, children born through third-party reproduction.”
Fertility Matters Canada, a Canadian charity that advocates for equitable access to fertility and family building, says cost is the number one barrier couples face when considering third-party reproduction.
Carolynn Dubé, the group’s executive director, is based in Moncton, N.B. She says the province’s legislation is “outdated and hasn’t been looked at in a very long time” when it comes to surrogacy.
“Family building…  has changed significantly in this country and of course, globally,” she said.
“(So New Brunswick needs to have a) look at our current legislation, understanding what other provinces are doing and updating it so that intended parents and those who need to use surrogates in order to build their family, are recognized within that legislation.”
For Rioux and his husband, the road to parenthood has been long. They’ve attempted embryo transfers, as well as had miscarriages and health scares with surrogates who have helped them.
They would like to see additional financial barriers removed for potential parents like them in New Brunswick, so that the process isn’t cost prohibitive.
“If (IVF)  continues to fail and if it takes another six years, yeah, money’s going to be an issue,” he said.
“But it’s also going to be, well are we still at an age where we we want children? Hopefully that doesn’t happen.”

One of Canada's intelligence review bodies has launched an investigation into the Canada Revenue Agency's work on charities in response to allegations of bias and Islamophobia.
On Tuesday, the National Security and Intelligence Review Agency (NSIRA) — the watchdog set up to monitor the activities of Canada's national security and intelligence bodies — released a letter it sent to Bob Hamilton, commissioner of the CRA, announcing its intention to probe the department's review and analysis wing.
That CRA division is tasked with making sure registered charities aren't being used to finance terrorism. It has been accused of unfairly targeting Muslim charities for audits based on questionable grounds.
NSIRA said the review will focus on the CRA program's "national security activities and decision-making relating to registered Canadian charities, to assess their reasonableness, necessity and compliance with the law." [...]
