If you've read the Daughter of the Pirate King duology, this is for you.
I want to make this an animatic/YouTube short but I don't have the motivation/skills.
First go listen to this sea shanty. DO IT. It's awesome.
Okay now yk how at the beginning, there's a little kid that goes, "Fee Fi Fo Fum, I smell the bones of an Englishman"? Imagine that kid is Roslyn. And imagine the main singer is Riden.
Now think about this:
Roslyn comes up to Riden and starts singing. And then aLL oF A suDdEn, Riden just chuckles (the little "he he he" in the background, if you listen closely) and calls the rest of the crew to start singing. And the rest of the song is basically that.
IMAGINE HOW EPIC OF AN ANIMATIC/YOUTUBE SHORT THAT WOULD MAKE

The Daugther of the Pirate King
Tumblr media
⭐4.5
I like this book even if I think that the story could be a hit or a complete miss.
I read that some people criticize the mentality of Alosa, or the chemistry with Riden and that's personally the point that made me love the story.
Alosa is a princess, with every flaw that comes with it: she's self-centered, compliments herself constantly, etc. But I like a main character that I want to slap in the face from time to time!
Reading this book gave me the feeling of watching Pirate of the Caribbean and just for that I recommend it. It's light-hearted, funny, has adventure and fun. I'm already looking to add the next book in the series to my TBR pile!

Daughter of the pirate king is the 'Die Erben der Nacht' Pirate AU
Hear me out: The main characters Name in dotpk is Alosa while in DedN there's Alisa, right? And both are badass and talented young women. And both are redheads!!
Franz Leopold and Riden are both handsome young men with dark long hair who love to tease their significant other. Not to mention that Franz Leopold does fencing, which literally is how the pirates fight.
If you need me I'm going to write a crossover fic.
(Yes, I'm not okay)

So I’m reading “Daughter of the Pirate King” by Tricia Levenseller, right?
(Spoilers ahead)
There’s a character named Riden, quarter master of a ship titled the Night farer and brother of the captain, Draxen. He’s a cocky son of a bitch, but one that is too afraid to do what he truly desires. He wasn’t his father’s favorite, and to be honest his father was right for that, as Riden ended up killing Jeskor. In the humble opinion of Alosa, our main character with a head of fire to match her spirit and the daughter of the pirate king, Riden could very well become captain of his own ship if he wanted to.
The whole thing with Alosa is that she’s been sent on a mission by her father to find one of three maps that’ll lead him to this legendary island that holds all the treasure a pirate could dream of. It’s said that sirens and other creatures of the sea will take the treasure that they’ve stolen from pirates they’ve killed or ships that they’ve sunk to this island for safe keeping. There are three maps in total, and when put together, they’ll reveal the path to the island. (Think Gravity Falls and the journals if you’ve ever seen that.) So Alosa was given a crew of disposable men and three of her trusted crew mates from the Ava-Lee to find the Night farer and purposefully get captured so she’s on the ship and has the ability to search it. Draxen and his crew think that Alosa is an unwilling prisoner who is being kept for ransom, while the princess has many tricks up her stolen sleeves.
GETTING TO THE POINT AND THE WHOLE REASON I WROTE THIS… bRO- I don’t know if it’s the desperation in me or what, BUT WHEN RIDEN AND HIS SLY SELF HAS ALOSA IN BED AND STARTS KISSING HER TENDERLY N SHIT I JUST DJENJDENEK. She quickly realizes he just wants her to let her guard down so she’ll slip up and spill information, which leads to her being like “lol never mind” and getting back to business. But thEN, after Alosa’s hung by the wrists in irons as punishment for killing three men before she was taken, hurting a few more, then killing a crew member named Shek for coming on to her, RIDEN TAKES CARE OF HER AND AAAAAAA. Mind you I’m only on chapter ten, but hOO BOY.
It’s definitely the desperation-

Finished Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller! Full spoilers below:
-it’s summer, which means time for my annual rewatch of Pirates of the Caribbean, which means I was in the mood for a pirate book. And I knew I had picked up the right one when the first page is a quote by Captain Jack Sparrow
-I loved Alosa. Gonna be honest, she is cocky and ultra-competent and if I wasn’t in the mood for swashbuckling larger-than-life characters she would have crossed over to annoying. But I wanted a badass main character at the moment, and Alosa delivered. Within the first chapter she was coldly slitting men’s throats while worrying over her crew, and character-wise she is a really good balance between ruthlessness and compassionate. And because she always had everything under control, when she didn’t it really felt she was in actual trouble.
-a small confession: so Alosa is stated to be 17 years old. Actually almost all the pirates are absurdly young yet still unbelievably amazing at what they do. It’s a byproduct of the YA genre, and my general rule of thumb is unless their age is plot-relevant, I usually mentally picture the characters as at least in their mid-twenties. It typically doesn’t really affect anything other than aiding my suspension of disbelief. Moving on:
-this was surprisingly more of a heist book than a pirating one, and I liked going with Alosa as she systematically made her plans and executed them. I suspected way too late that Theris may not be Kalligan’s spy, and I was blindsided that he was actually Vordan.
-the romance was much more central to the story than I was expecting, and it was a good enemies-to-lovers. I didn’t necessarily like Riden himself too much (the letting his brother attempt to assault Alosa put a bad taste in my mouth, even if Riden was positive that Draxen would be killed before he ever succeeded) but Alosa/Riden’s entire dynamic was a lot of fun. It’s basically “I am manipulating you and you know I am manipulating you and I know you know I am manipulating you, but fortunately/unfortunately we actually really do click, and there is a an uncomfortable amount of realness in all these interactions which are supposed to be just me manipulating you in our battle of wills”. And they are both so observant of each other, I love that Riden is the only person who has ever noticed the difference when Alosa becomes a siren. And Alosa chose not to kill Draxen for Riden’s sake which is basically a confession of love right there (though I was heavily disappointed she didn’t at the very least cut off a hand or ear or something at least). And they got so many romance tropes to play with: Enemy Pirates, Captain and First Mate, Pirate and Princess, Pirate and Mermaid, Pirate and Prisoner.
-I’m looking forward to seeing Captain Alosa and getting to know her ship and crew in the next book.
