If you've read the Daughter of the Pirate King duology, this is for you.
I want to make this an animatic/YouTube short but I don't have the motivation/skills.
First go listen to this sea shanty. DO IT. It's awesome.
Okay now yk how at the beginning, there's a little kid that goes, "Fee Fi Fo Fum, I smell the bones of an Englishman"? Imagine that kid is Roslyn. And imagine the main singer is Riden.
Now think about this:
Roslyn comes up to Riden and starts singing. And then aLL oF A suDdEn, Riden just chuckles (the little "he he he" in the background, if you listen closely) and calls the rest of the crew to start singing. And the rest of the song is basically that.
IMAGINE HOW EPIC OF AN ANIMATIC/YOUTUBE SHORT THAT WOULD MAKE

Thanks to @fiercereadsya for sending me a finished copy of the new edition of “Daughter of the Siren Queen”
✩🧜‍♀️⚓️Review:
A satisfying conclusion to a high stakes adventure!
Picking up a few weeks from where the first installment left off, Alosa Kalligan finds herself in a deadly race against her father after learning of a secret he has kept from her. Despite the danger, Alosa knows she will recover the legendary hidden treasure first with the help of her a crew and the still unfairly attractive and unexpectedly loyal, first mate Riden, who once took her captive.
New book, same cunning, ruthless Alosa. I loved getting to see Alosa’s dynamic as a captain in “Daughter of the Siren Queen”! She is so devoted to her crew, willing to sacrifice her life without hesitation for them, and owning up to her missteps. This only deepened my admiration for her character.
Alosa’s romance with Riden definitely isn’t the focal point of this book, which is something I normally wouldn’t mind, but I couldn’t help but feel like something about their chemistry was off. Instead of their relationship deepening, it was repeatedly sabotaged and not enough time was spent on how it was mended (in my opinion) in the end. All this to say, there was a lot of back and forth and I was eager for them to just be together considering that their romance is a subplot.
One of my favorite aspects of “Daughter of the Pirate King” was the promise of sirens and this book did not disappoint on that front! Levenseller leans more into the fantasy genre with this one and I loved being able to delve more into Alosa’s siren nature and learn more about roots.

Do you ever want all your fav characters and ships from all your fandoms to be in one room and just TALK
It would be funnier since all the different fandoms literally don’t make sense together.
All I want is to have cal and mare from red queen, alsoa and riden from Daughter of the pirate king and wrath and Emilia from kingdom of the wicked to just sit down and talk.
how funny would that be???

Finished Daughter of the Siren Queen (Daughter of the Pirate King #2) by Tricia Levenseller a few days ago!
-I was not expecting the reveal that the pirate king had Alosa’s mother held prisoner in his study for the past 17 years, trying to force her to give him more half-siren daughters. That was dark. And it was probably one of the only things that would’ve broken Alosa’s loyalty to her father so immediately and completely.
-I liked Alosa’s crew, and was glad we spent this book on her ship. I smiled at all the Sorinda and Kearan little moments, their book is going to be interesting.
-Lotiya’s death was hands down the worst. Being eaten alive by cannibals.
-I really grew to like Riden and Alosa’s relationship even more this book. I was wondering how the power imbalance “work-relationship” would work out with her being his Captain now, but it was refreshing how unconcerned Riden was with her being in charge (which was nicely set up last book with him being a first mate and not really having any ambitions of his own except furthering the ambitions of his brother, which has now shifted to furthering the ambitions of the love of his life). And it was nicely balanced in that it is made clear Riden is Alosa’s soul mate. He is the only person that can keep her siren nature from taking over, he is essential to her.
-so about halfway though the book I was headcanoning their future. I was picturing Alosa as pirate queen and Riden as her permanent lover (never getting married cause pirates don’t do marriage). And I was thinking they would never have kids (kinda like horses and donkeys. Humans and sirens can have kids together, but half-sirens can’t have kids) just because of the dangers of having kids living on pirate ships (as shown by Roslyn). But then Riden started asking Wallov about what it’s like having a daughter, cause he wanted to start preparing for having his own daughters with Alosa (cause he assumes Alosa can only have girls) and it was just so cute. It was revealed though that Alosa would have a normal human life span but never really age…which is eh (I never really like it when only one half of a couple ages and the other is forever young). But I also headcanon Riden getting killed before he gets old too so shrug (pirate queen lover has got to be a dangerous job)
-got a lot of siren lore in this book. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that sirens have two legs. Every time Alosa was in the water I kept picturing her turning into a mermaid and then back when she was no longer in the water. However, I eventually realized this was not the case.
-on a meta sense I appreciate this series was kept as a duology, as it reflected Alosa’s own nature being caught between human pirate and siren. But can’t say she was ever really torn between her two natures; she may have come to peace with her siren half (thanks to Riden’s influence) but even after learning she had a place with the sirens (as their princess and possible future queen!), she was never tempted to join the siren world. She always wanted to remain a human, and more importantly the pirate queen.
-I am actually almost halfway through the next book (yeah I put off writing these thoughts up) and am enjoying Sorinda’s pov on things.

→ get to know me: books I love
“You’re a woman. Act like it. You shouldn’t be saying such foul-“
“I’ll say whatever I please. I’m not a lady, I’m a pirate!”
“Well, you shouldn’t be!”
“And why’s that? I’m plenty good at it.”
“Because pirates aren’t supposed to look like you and talk like you talk and do what you do. You’re confusing, and it’s messing with my head.”

Me to my brain, whenever there’s something that will make me look longingly at books I can’t buy and feel sorry for myself:
Me: Don’t even think about it.
My brain: I already did.

✩📦📚Book Mail:
The “Daughter of the Pirate King” duology was recently given a new look and @fiercereadsya was kind enough to send me a set! Not only do the special hardcover editions have new covers, but they also have sprayed edges, a ribbon bookmark, a unique case stamp, a redesigned interior, and bonus content. Fierce Reads really went all out!
I am so beyond excited to read “Daughter of the Pirate King” and “Daughter of the Siren Queen” in anticipation of “Vengeance of the Pirate Queen”, which goes on sale November 7th. The cover matches the style of the new special editions and while it can be read separately from the first two books in the series, you should read them anyway! I know I am 😌

Fantasy novels encompass a totally different universe. They are unreal and speculative but at the same time subjective in a way that you feel alive within the pages. It's a beautiful experience, every story, every fantasy, every character has so much to give and live upto and it's all brilliantly woven using words.
Take the example of the series "Daughter of the pirate king". The above snippet belongs to it's second installment- "Daughter of the siren queen" and the line relates to reality so boldly. It's important to hold someone responsible for their actions, but you can't hold them responsible for the actions or nature of someone they share blood with.
