[ID: The goats charge the other way, pushing der Inspector's car into the side of the house. He breaks off the steering wheel in the crash. /end] Inspector: OOH!

[ID: The goats climb into the car as der Inspector frantically flees. Hans helps up one of the goats with an automotive jack. /end] Inspector: Dunder und Blitzen! Dey're caming after!! Hans: Giff a goat a boost, darling, und he alvays returns der favor!

[ID: The goats head-butt der Inspector down the road as the man clings onto a small rolling cart. The Kids run happily after them. /end] Inspector: Hey! Ow... dod gast...!! Hans: Vot did I said about der favor, luff? Fritz: Dere's nix in talking, I got to hand you der medal, luff!

[ID: Der Inspector speeds down a hill towards a parked horse-drawn water wagon, its driver sitting lazily atop it under a parasol. The goats chase der Inspector down the hill, the Kids following quickly behind. /end] Wagon Driver: Ah me, better days have I saw, I have!! Inspector: Himmel! Stop it, stop it!!

[ID: Der Inspector slams face-first into a cylindrical metal sprinkler on the back of the tanker. The goats skid to a stop, watching with shock. The wagon driver turns around, startled. The Kids laugh at him, further up the road. /end] Driver: ? Inspector: Oof! Fritz: Ha!

[ID: The driver angrily turns the sprinkler on, blasting der Inspector in the face with water. The goats run away, the Kids keep pointing and laughing. /end] Driver: Git off there. How many times must a guy warn you old plugs about hitchin' on? Fritz: Don't giff up der ship, Inspector!

[ID: As the water wagon clops away, der Inspector sits soaked in the street, looking fearfully at the billy goats, who stand at the ready next to him, both giving him a mischievous wink. The Kids look on proudly. /end] Driver: It's gittin' so the older they get, the more y'gotta tell 'em! Giddap!! Inspector: ? Fritz: Chust look at dor for intelligence, Hans! Hans: Two to vun, dey know vot comes knext!

[ID: The goats headbutt der Inspector into an open manhole further up the road. The Kids merrily dance together. /end] Inspector: For der luff of pickles? Hans: How many years did you say dem goats vorked in a lodge, luff? Fritz: Search me. Dey're life members!

[ID: Inside the house, the Kids sit happily on one end of the table, feeding scraps to the billy goats who sit equally glad on the floor beside them. At the other end of the table, der Captain waits impatiently, smoking a cigar. A fashionable young redheaded woman sits between them, daydreaming romantic thoughts. Outside the open doorway behind der Captain, der Inspector hides, glaring inside and holding a huge wooden club behind his back. A couple of years ago, BookTok and BookTube - the literary subcultures of TikTok and YouTube - started a meme, #writtenbyawoman.  The idea of the meme was that men, as written by women authors, were–well, terrific! Wonderful! Kind, gentle, considerate! To say a man was “written by a woman” was to give him the ultimate compliment: to put him in a category with men like Mr. Darcy, or Laurie from Little Women, or the Hot Priest from Fleabag. This complement has moved past fictional characters to be applied to real men (as in, “OMG he’s amazing, it’s like he’s written by a woman”), as well as to celebrities (e.g. Harry Styles, Timothee Chalamet. Hozier.) 

This is one of those cases where fandom’s hit on an idea that academia has also explored. In the introduction to her 2017 book, Heartthrobs: A History of Women and Desire, historian Carol Dyhouse notes that: 

“The icons of romantic literature — Mr Darcy, Mr Rochester, Heathcliff, or Rhett Butler — were mostly, in the first instance, products of the female imagination. Movie stars and rock musicians acquire and cultivate images that in many cases have little to do with their ‘ real ’ selves. Many of the most successful ‘ romantic leads ’ in the past — Montgomery Clift, Rock Hudson, Dirk Bogarde, Richard Chamberlain, for instance — have been gay. Their performances nevertheless conjured visions of maleness which had women weak at the knees: how do we make sense of this?” 

Dyhouse continues:

What we now refer to as the ‘alpha male’ hero, rugged, square-built with a strong jawline, has never held indomitable sway over feminine emotions. Sensitive types, moody aesthetes, and men exuding androgynous charm have featured equally prominently in the cultural landscape of desire. (1-2)

Even early heartthrob’s like Rudolph Valentino’s character of “The Sheik” were #writtenbyawoman - did you know that he comes from a bestselling novel, The Sheik (1919), written by E.M. Hul (that is, my girl Edith Maud. :D  You go, Edith!) 

Dyhouse’s purview extends from soulmates to vampires to pop stars and of course to David Bowie as the Goblin King. Not a fandom book per se but well worth checking out if your areas of interest include, say, pirates, Adam Ant, or Lord Byron.

Decided to redesign my old Rudolph x Zoey fankids I made back in 2021 a bit

For those who don't remember the girl's name is Lyra (formerly Phoebe, I just decided I liked Lyra as a name better) and the boy's name is still Dirk. (Ik the names are pretty boring I just wanted them to have similar naming patterns as their parents, with Rudolph/Dirk being of German origin and Zoey/Lyra being of Greek origin)

Both the kids inherited red Rudolph's glow in some way, with Lyra's being in her nose and Dirk being in his antlers

what was your favorite part of the design process for the spritework/character art? did you have any outside media like songs or things that influenced any specific characters :3?

I think my favourite part of designing characters in general is figuring out their palettes (even if I'm not the best at picking awesome colours). It's definitely the easiest part of the whole process for me at least.

I think I mentioned inspiration things on character posts... Some of them off the top of my head:

Maddaton: Spinel (SU), probably Marine (PKMN) subconsciously

King RUDOLPH: Vintage Father Christmas pictures in general, Eggnog Cookie (for the cloak...), John Krasinski with a beard (seriously.)

Undyne: JRPG protagonists with impractical bits of armor on only one side, Sunny's Papyrus design (I wanted it to look like she was emulating him!); not specific to just her OS design but I draw her hair like a fish fin because of this cool fanart.

??????: One person said Dirk but it's actually closer to Lil Hal. Also Doc Scratch, but those are both technically Dirk so I guess they're still correct? Also old school computer terminals (the black and green text ones). The most blatant Homestuck reference guy out of everyone. You don't even know half of it yet.

Toby: Does Toby Fox himself count? He's wearing the same GameBro shirt as the one from that picture with Shigesato Itoi. You can probably guess about the Toblerone (Broblerone???) he has in the key art

Sans: Sans, but like the one in the Xbox port's casino with the visor. I drew it more like the Sun Visor gear from Splatoon.

The one we've known for the last 20 odd years was designed by Dirk Rudolph, and this is what he says

"In fact, the idea is that the cross is already in the letter “T” of the word Rammstein. The line in the “T” is almost halfway and approaching the shape of a cross. This symmetrical shape is really interesting. The cross is a powerful symbol, but it is also an important message. The combination of the letter " R" and the cross (i.e., " T") was something of an abbreviation for the Rammstein name."

Für alles gibt es Dankbares. Ralph Giuliani ist ein toller Lieferant, unter anderem für Beobachtungen zu Pathosformeln, Memen und zum Nachleben der Antike. Er ist außerdem ein gutes Beispiel dafür, dass etwas nicht erst dann zum Bild wird, wenn ein Fotograf den Auslöser drückt. Der Körper und das Gesicht Giulianis kommen dem Fotografen zuvor.

Das Gesicht ähnelt zum Beispiel einem anderen Gesicht, wiederholt oder reproduziert es damit in gewisser Hinsicht. Das Gesicht mimt ein anderes Gesicht. Das Gesicht erscheint machmal gleich doppelt und dreifach übersetzt zur Vorsicht, auch große Gesichter kommen als Ausdruck großer Vorsicht vor, zum Beispiel mit aufgerissenen Augen und aufgestelltem Mund, mit geblähten Nasenlöchern und schlackernden Ohren, wie mit einem windenden Kettenvorhang aus Os. Anders herum ist es auch möglich: Vorsicht wird in Gesicht übersetzt.

Wer Ralph Giuliani nicht schon alles war, sogar als Dirk Bogarde und Gustav von Aschenbach, damit in gewisser Hinsicht auch als Gustav Mahler und Richard Wagner kam er schon vor, als lustig singendes Entlein und Anwalt von Donald Trump, Bürgermeister und Cleaning Man von New York tauchte er zweitweise auf. An manchen Tagen glaubt man, die Welten von Jonathan Swift, François Rabelais, von Petronius seien weit entfernt. Dann will man sie und hat man sie so nah, wie einen geliebten Kachelofen in kalten Bergen, der den Rücken jucken lässt, weil er so schön durchblutet.

I love Bildredaktionen, wenn sie gut sind! Hier hat eine Redaktion geleistet, sogar die leichte Untersicht auf das Gesicht von Giuliani wurde eingehalten! Regel! Perfekter Winkel! Perfektes Licht, im Hintergrund warme Lichtquelle von Links und im Vordergrund kalte Lichtquelle von Rechts, das ist superdynamisch, ohne unübersichtlich zu sein. Perfekter Moment!

Gut, man kann darüber streiten, warum Politiker wie Trump, Giuliani und Johnson immer doof, linkisch und idiotisch und Putin immer bis oben hin putinförmig aufgefüllt gezeigt wird. Man kann die kalkulierte Überraschungsfreiheit in den Erwartbarkeiten, dem Stoff der Institutionen, auch beklagen.

Die Holzhammerikonographie, die sich in den letzten Jahren doch stark mit den Journalisten entwickelt hat, die alle haben, was leicht zu haben ist, nämlich Meinung und Haltung, die ist manchmal schon a bisserl bekloppt. Aber wenn es die Richtigen trifft, freue ich mich immer. Wenn es die Richtigen trifft, steigt mir die Häme wie ein Bäuerchen nach zuviel Alete auf, aber ist schon ok so.

Meine Mitbewohner sind gerade aufgewacht und behaupten, der hieße gar nicht Ralph Giuliani, sondern Rudolph oder Rudy Giullani. Kann sein.

[ID: Der Captain replaces the bridge and traipses across it, happily tipping his hat to the drowning goats. Jahreshauptversammlung des Löschzugs Scherpenberg

Moers. (pst) Zusammen kommen sie auf 124 Jahre Feuerwehr-Dienst: Bei der Jahreshauptversammlung des Löschzuges Scherpenberg der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Moers am Samstag, 3. Februar, wurden drei langjährige Aktive in den ‚Feuerwehr-Ruhestand‘ verabschiedet. Fast ein halbes Jahrhundert, genauer 49 Jahre, war Wolfgang Rinke aktives Mitglied der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr, zunächst 30 Jahre in Homberg, zuletzt nochmal 19 Jahre beim Löschzug im Moerser Osten. Der Hauptbrandmeister verstärkt mit seinen 67 Jahren nun die Unterstützungsabteilung der Feuerwehr und ist weiter in der Ausbildung und Dokumentation tätig. Achim Jaeck neuer stellvertretender Löschzugführer Nach 42 Jahren aktivem Dienst wechselt Dirk Lubahn in die Ehrenabteilung. Hinter ihm liegen viele Jahre, in denen er als stellvertretender Zugführer die Geschicke des Löschzuges mit leitete. Marcus Tanzer kommt auch auf mehr als drei Jahrzehnte Engagement. Der Oberbrandmeister und Gruppenführer beendet nach 33 Jahren seine aktive Feuerwehr-Zeit. Einen Wechsel gab es außerdem in der Leitung des Löschzuges Scherpenberg: Christian Heilmann legte nach sieben Jahren das Amt als stellvertretender Zugführer nieder. Nach bestandenem Zugführer-Lehrgang wurde Achim Jaeck zum Brandinspektor befördert und als stellvertretender Löschzugführer berufen. Feuerwehrchef bedankte sich für hervorragende Leistungen Nach erfolgreich absolvierten Lehrgängen sind Clara Romanczyk, Maurice Kant und André Gitzel jetzt Feuerwehrfrau bzw. Feuerwehrmann. Jonas Bönisch darf nun eine Gruppe im Einsatz führen und wurde zum Brandmeister ernannt.
