it is pretty funny how 13 relates to her companions. she hears about ryan's dad one time and is immediately like 'well unfortunately for you ryan I'M your emotionally distant father now' but then she sees yaz and is like '👀👀 pretty girl 😍😍 I famously can't save the universe without eye candy 🥰🥰' and they're. the same age. ryan and yaz were in the same class growing up they're both 19. meanwhile 13 feels a widowed old man kinship with graham but she seems to not understand that she's in a physically younger body than him and thinks he's not Old Manning properly whenever he asks to take a break lmfao

and here’s how sunclair can still win
Mel Bush: Ruby, how are you feeling?
Ruby Sunday: Not great, to be honest.
Mel Bush: You poor dear! Well, I hope Kate forwarded an invite for you to join our support group for people who have travelled with the Doctor. I'm sure we'd all love to see you there.
Ruby Sunday: ...

It's really striking me, going all the way back to the beginning of Chibnall's Era (I'm currently watching Arachnids in the U.K.), how much this Era cares about how it talks about family and adoption and unconventional families and the like.
There is a stark contrast between Ryan talking about his father and protesting that his father doesn't get to use the words "proper family" to describe their relationship when his Nan (and Graham, as the season comes to show their growing relationship/understanding) was the one to actually show care and raise him and take care of him when his father didn't show up and Ruby referring to her biological mother- who gave her up at birth- as her "real mum" above Carla Sunday, the woman who raised her and loved her and was the one that was there for her. (The Timeless Child complicates the themes of adoption in this era, what with how the Doctor's own adopted backstory is complicated by themes of colonialism and other matters, and I think that's actually a good and interesting angle to explore in contrast to the Sinclair/O'Brien storyline, without treating adopted families aa if they don't matter- if anything, the Doctor's messy feelings on the subject only hammer in how complicated it can be to wrestle with adoption and nature v. Nurture and exploitation and the like without invalidating experiences entirely, as I think is done so often with the treatment of Carla Sunday in alternate timelines/Ruby's elevation of her biological mother as her "real mom" over the woman who took her in. There is a difference that the Chibnall era makes between child-stealing/colonialism and adoption with the contrasting character arcs/themes/circumstances that RTD2 absolutely lacks nuance on.)
I think it really shows both the complicated feelings of being someone is adopted as Chris Chibnall is while also the appreciation and respect for adoption and the fact that "real" family is the family that chose you, biological (Grace and Ryan) or not (Ryan and Graham).

Everything done with Yaz in those last three specials is a muddled mess that even the popular headcanons can't make sense of, and yet it all could've been fixed by just having her say "If she can't love me back, I'm out". That's it. That's all she needed to say. Simple fix the writer completely missed because Chibnall was clearly allergic to giving Yaz any kind of motivation or internal thought process.
Honestly, all the companion exits since Bill have been bad for a variety of reasons. Chibnall just didn't seem to put any effort into them at all while both of RTD's were obvious last minute rush jobs where he made every single bad choice he could think of.

His thoughts, his words inspire and influence thousands for centuries. If he dies now, who knows what damage that will have on future history? Words matter! One death, one ripple, and history will change in a blink. The future will not be the world you know. The world you came from, the world you were created in won't exist, so neither will you. I HIGHLY recommend all of you to read this post and read some of the comments. It talks a lot about consent in this era (or lack of it) and the SA implications. In addition there is a conversation about adoption and foster care system conversation. I honestly thought of the same things esp compared to chibnall's era where 13 not only asked for consent (unless it's life or death situation or something REALLY urgent) but also had a really good conversation regarding parenthood and foster care system (given that it's chibnall's personal experience). And to make the doctor after 13 of all people have these conversations in his era is sickening.
and don't forget that she wanted to bring her fam back as well as asked all of them if they truly wanted to stay after their interest in it:
DOCTOR: Right, quick update. I made a terrible mistake. We shouldn't be here. I'm going to fix it and get you guys home, I promise. Soon as I figure out where we are.
DOCTOR: I'm sorry. I've failed you. I promised you and I let you down.
DOCTOR: I can't guarantee that you're going to be safe.
YASMIN: We know.
DOCTOR: Do you? Really? Cos when I pull that lever, I'm never quite sure what's going to happen.
RYAN: That's okay.
DOCTOR: You're not going to come back as the same people that left here.
GRAHAM: But that's all right. I think that's good.
DOCTOR: Be sure. All of you, be sure.
YASMIN: Sure.
GRAHAM: Sure.
RYAN: Deffo.

Kinda adore the fact that any time the Master comes back to Doctor Who the Doctor basically pauses the story and tells their companions "sorry, gotta deal with some psychosexual romantic drama with my on-and-off-again genderfluid homicidal ex/narrative foil that WILL traumatize you (and your family/boyfriend/loved ones) for the rest of your lives" all the while the companions are literally just the Live Slug meme
