Genos vs Mad Cyborg theories

These are probably incoherent ramblings. I’ve been speculating on what could potentially happen in the Mad Cyborg arc, and what would happen if Genos were to face off against it. I’ve mapped out some pathways here.

Genos one-shots the Mad Cyborg

Even after getting the greatest upgrade, losing Dr. Kuseno and preparing years for this face-off… his new upgrade or the mad cyborg’s surprising weakness allows him to one-shot it. Then he would get no satisfaction at all from killing him, which ties in nicely with ONE’s theme: being hellbent on revenge isn’t worth it. Instead, work toward a new path—which was what Genos was doing (learning how to live like a human teenager with Saitama) before Drive Knight came along and pointed him toward MC… SCREW YOU, DK! Genos will also realise how Saitama feels about ‘ultimate power’ after oneshotting: ultimate power does not grant one satisfaction at all.

There's another thing that might fit under this theory heading: The Mad Cyborg doesn't even remember Genos. He's either too crazy to remember him, he was too mindless when following orders when he destroyed the town or in too much of a blood frenzy and doesn't remember individuals, or he simply doesn't remember Genos. This can make Genos super angry and oneshots him.

Genos goes on a rampage like MC

Dr. Kuseno faked his death to try and push Genos over the edge of sanity. We already see the cracks in Genos and Saitama’s relationship forming ocer the past few webcomic chapters. There’s no denying that Saitama just isn’t the right guy to help Genos deal with loss and just—his emotions right now. Plus, we see earlier in a panel where Genos was getting super mad after hearing about MC from DK and was about to lose control (as stated by him, too) before he saw Saitama’s face in the clouds and calmed down. So, we can conclude that Saitama is the only person (especially now that Dr. Kuseno is gone) keeping Genos sane. The gap between Genos and Saitama is growing, physically and psychologically—Genos was even disrespectful to him and sent him away. Saitama is not equipped to guide Genos through this mess of emotions and hatred that runs deep. They are not good at understanding each other or communicating on the same wavelength. It doesn’t help that Saitama has that dead fish expression nearly all the time even when Kuseno died and that he was the strongest guy but still couldn’t save him.

These guys seriously need to learn to talk things out.

The seeds were even planted all the way back when Neo Heroes were introduced and Genos thought Saitama didn’t notice him when they sparred for the second time. So I think Saitama might not be there to keep Genos in check when he faces off with the MC and as a result Genos falls into the same fate and goes mad as well. Or, Saitama could arrive just on time and save him—speak his magic, just like Amai Mask and Garou, and remind Genos of himself again.

God offers Genos his hand

It is heavily speculated and implied that God only visits those who are in the pits of despair and desperation to grant them the way out—ultimate power. Genos, even after his latest upgrade, might still be too weak for the MC and as a result God reaches out his hand to Genos. And Genos takes it. This ties in nicely with what Genos already thinks about himself (see this awesome review on manga ch. 186, Genos and Saitama’s second sparring match.)—he cannot see how powerful he’s become, only that he’s still weaker than Saitama. So even though he can easily defeat dragon-level monsters, he still can’t beat the MC, and hates himself for it (poor guy…)

Anyway, the next stage then happens—he could fight Saitama, because ultimately, all of God’s victims gained ultimate power but lost themselves. If this happens, I think Saitama would eventually save him, just like he did with Garou, but hopefully with a little more nuance. There’s no way he would kill/maim/capture his best friend unless Genos absolutely HAS to be stopped (might be talking about a bigger threat than Garou here. He’d be more uncontrollable than Garou too—Garou at least was still clinging onto a thread of his humanity because deep down inside he wanted to be a hero, but Genos… his goal isn’t to be a hero, but to take vengeance. To destroy.)

Genos IS the Mad Cyborg.

I know this theory used to circulate around a lot, but I thought i should include it here anyway because I think it’s pretty interesting. Basically, Genos was the MC all along—meaning he was the one who slaughtered his family and burned his town to the ground. I see this as two ways:

He actually did have memory of killing his family and literally everything we’e been told is fake. He used to work for The Organisation or the evil side and killed his family willingly (i would believe it was brainwashing and they wanted him to kill them for a ‘good cause’) but then had his memory wiped afterward so he now believes what he told Saitama (i really don’t believe Genos is evil though.)

Genos’s memory was not intact even when he killed his family. Dr. Kuseno/DK/Bofoi implanted fake memories in him.

So, after he realises that everything he had been striving for, dedicating himself body, mind, and soul and even sacrificing his humanity for, was a complete lie… he hates himself more than he ever had and decides to self-destruct (and just when i thought he got rid of his suicidal tendency!) lest he go on a rampage again. hopefully he doesn’t because Saitama is here to save the day… only that Saitama was sent off by him… No. I refuse to believe Saitama wouldn’t arrive on time to save him.

Genos and Saitama fight each other/face-off against each other

There are multiple ways that could’ve lead up to this point:

Genos goes mad/on a rampage and fights Saitama (I doubt Saitama would fight back, though.)

Genos takes God’s hand, gaining ultimate power but losing himself (as all of God’s victims do) and fights Saitama

Drive Knight is actually the mastermind and killed off/made Bofoi his pawn long ago.

(DK was created by Bofoi but turned against him. Is DK the MC? Was he not actually mad? Was he created to be like the MC but went against Bofoi’s wishes?)

Bofoi could have nothing to do with the Mad Cyborg or The Organisation. So far, only DK told Genos that Bofoi was his enemy and that Bofoi created him (?) and that it’s in Bofoi’s stronghold. And ultimately, we don’t really know if DK is trustworthy.

We know Bofoi’s goal is to gain control over everyone using his robots. We wouldn’t put it past him to do a test run on the MC by sending it to destroy a town—destroying EVERYONE in a town isn’t a rampage… it’s murder. Controlled murder.

It seems to me that DK is planting all the seeds here… sus.

The Mad Cyborg took God’s hand

And lost himself. That’s what would happen to Genos too.

Genos had said that even saitama may have trouble defeating MC (which is probably not true. saitama is saitama) but because of this declaration we can’t completely dismiss the fact that MC is super powerful even if Saitama could still defeat it in one punch.

The staunchest difference I could think of between webcomic Saitama and manga Saitama when it comes to their relationships is that if you ask webcomic Saitama if he has friends he can't answer but if you ask manga Saitama he'll say yes.

Listen, if it came down to it, Saitama vs Reigen in a fight, Saitama would lose like 98% of the time because it wouldn't be funny for the strongest man alive to deck your average civilian office worker.

The thing is, it would also not be funny for "my secret move is a surprise sucker punch" Reigen to deck some random superhero. So unless we pick a scenario where one of the two is super evil for some reason, a fight between them wouldn't be interesting.

(I'm already eliminating Mob from this conversation because there is no universe where Mob and Saitama would have a go against each other, they're bros)

However! Were the fight to be not physical, but social?

Reigen and Saitama meet at the cabbage sale of the local supermarket, both gunning for the last head that's 70% off at the same time. Saitama is faster, but dramatically so. Not wanting to lose like that, Reigen begins to give Saitama a social dressing down, about anything from his costume to how roughly he grabbed the cabbage to the disrespect he's showing his elders to whichever other japanese social convention Saitama could feasibly be implied to be breaking in this situation. Saitama is now put on the spot, and it's embarassing - he usually doesn't care too much for these things, but he doesn't want to get a bad rep at his favourite convenience store, you fell him? Saitama seriously considers to throw hands. All eyes of the other customers are on them now.

Instead, Mob walks up and says something matter of factly that completely obliterates Reigen's social convention high ground, probably something about being the bigger person. Both adults were just obliterated by a seemingly otherwise socially inept child. Insisting to get the cabbage now would mean to publically show off to be less mature than the fourteen year old.

Their just about to calculate how to play this, get into a first round of "Ah well, please go ahead and take the cabbage, I insist" that Saitama barely gets out through clenched teeth. Then a sweet, kind old lady walks up and takes the cabbage, even thanking them for it. Neither of them can do anything about this.

No one wins.

The old lady winks at Mob in passing but he isn't sure if he just imagined it.

Just had the mental image of Genos and Saitama making love in a nest of pillows and blankets just because it was super comfy and "Why not?"

Like it's one of those lazy days Saitama just wants to have. Doesn't want to get up if he doesn't have to, but not in the way of wanting to curl up a disappear. Just pure, comfortable, and slightly playful laziness. But that day was also one of those days were Genos couldn't sit still. He wanted to move, he wanted to do something, but the fridge was full, the chores were already done (plus, disturbing Saitama with cleaning around the house while he's trying to laze about and nap is the last tuing he wants to do), and Saitama had insisted Genos took the last few days off from fighting monsters he wasn't called to deal with. (This was a conversation they had the week before, brought up by Saitama begause he recognized Genos unhealthily pushing himself. Genos, along with reluctantly accepting the deal, promised he wouldn't push himself too hard anymore.)

After the 4th snack Genos made for him, Saitama finally acknowledges his hyperactivity and asks him if he wants to build a pillow and blankets nest on the futons. Genos feels a lot towards the question. There's bittersweet feelings of nostalgia, there's confusion, excitement, determination, affection—he agrees, though he doesn't fully understand why Saitama brought the idea up.

So, Saitama gets up (only slightly pouting over the fact he has to move from his comfortable spot), and they get to work. Genos goes digging through the storage closet for more pillows and blankets, Saitama brings both futons side-by-side for maximum width, they're placing and moving pillows and blankets for a more optimal shape. And finally, as the last piece, Genos keeps one of their blankets away so when Saitama lays down in it, he can place the blanket on top of him.

But, as Saitama starts settling in, pleased with the plushness and softness of the nest, he turns to Genos. He lays down on his back and makes a grabbing gesture towards the cyborg. Once again confused but happy to comply, he carefully kneels into the nest, setting the blanket to the side and stradling Saitama. The bald man pulls him down and turns with him in his arms, embracing him in a very affectionate cuddle.

"You move too much," he murmurs, smiling warmly as the sleepiness starts to set in. Steam leaves Genos' shoulders as he realizes why Saitama had them do this.

"I apologize for the inconvenience," he says, holding Saitama closer. "I... don't know why I'm like this today."

Saitama pulls his head away to give him a look. "How are you feeling?"

Genos sighs. He feels a little bad now, for making Saitama move so much on his lazy day for his sake and still not relaxing. "I feel like... I'm being unproductive. It's unnerving to feel like I could be doing something right now but having nothing to do."

Oddly enough, Saitama gets the feeling. He felt like that everyday he wasn't employed, or the days he had prior training. It almost always felt like he was just wasting his life away, letting his depression consume him and doing absolutely nothing at home instead of, say, getting a stable job or learning something useful.

But he also knows that, in Genos' case, it's (mostly) because old habits die hard. The poor borg spent 4 years running around constantly, looking for that Mad cyborg and kicking monster ass–always moving, always fighting. And the key, he found out throughout the time he spent with Genos, is to keep him moving. Get him to run, get him to clean.

And Saitama gets an idea.

"Would it help if I..." he says, grunting as he pulled away from the cyborg to move them—Genos on his back now and Saitama straddling him. Genos, feeling Saitama lean forward a press his palms against his metal breastplates, goes wide-eyed, steam slowly trickling from his shoulders. "Was that something for you to do?"

Genos gawks at him, but once again, his body happily moves, hands falling on the Saitama's hips like it was second nature. When his brain catches up with the situation, he finds himself falling more in love. He feels an unbreakable amount of appreciation for him, unbridled adoration and infatuation, because Saitama is offering a solution he knows he does not need to offer.

"I believe it would," he murmurs, letting his fingers slide under his boyfriend's shirt. "May I, sensei?"

"If it keeps you moving," he smirks, "do it."

So Genos does anything that "keeps him moving," which Saitama realizes later that that was a slightly bad idea to tell him to do. They go for a while, gradually shifting from "fucking" and more so "making love", gentle and sweet and comfortable in that nest of blankets and pillows that've grown disheveled (though, Saitama is disappointed that they're all covered in sweat and... other things now). And even after they're spent, Genos goes on to cuddle him close and press kisses wherever he sees a free spot every few seconds.

If you think about it, Genos also learned the "don't expect someone to save you" lesson in the hard way. He was just 15 when his life got taken away from him, and who knows how long passed until Kuseno found him. And meanwhile, no help came. Then he started his lonely quest on his own.

Until we know for sure the circumstances how they met, it was also thanks to Kuseno, his new only found family, that Genos wasn't alone. :') Whether Kuseno was there to 'save' Genos (injured, alone, orphaned, etc) in the aftermath of his town's attack or not, he does do his part to help support & check on Genos any way he can....like a son. :') While Genos charges out into the field, armed & searching with purpose~ (Still not emotionally recovered, and it's...a wonder if Kuseno only enabled his reckless side even more, with Genos seeing his 'life' as a disposable/replaceable weapon....and esp armed with a self-destruct function. D: so whether his cyborgization was a blessing or a curse on him, it seems wc Kuseno still has his regrets for how he'd like Genos to live...) But it's hard to think of how else Genos might have handled himself early on (ex: would he have learned more self-preservation to survive on his own? had he kept his human body? or would he have been that much more lost, angry and guilt-stricken, all alone and powerless, recklessly charging towards an even earlier grave without any help), had he not had that 'second wind' from Kuseno to fix & upgrade him as needed.

So while suffering freak accidents and bad luck are...a thing, Genos soon learned that he at least can expect help to come - first from meeting Kuseno, and then from Saitama reinforcing his belief/faith in that as well.

Caught up with op/m manga… I’m scared of waiting…

Mechanical digits hover over the keyboard before they curl into fists and rest on the surface of the table for the umpteenth time. There were plenty of ways to go about this- and surely, if one way wouldn’t work out, he would try them all- but Genos has never felt so uncertain. Not even when he made the life-altering decision to give up most of his human body for mechanical parts. For this mission, he needed to be thorough and put one-hundred and ten percent of his effort into this attempt to ensure a strong conclusion.

For this reason, he had brought over every piece of reference he had. Most of which were his notebooks, some stacked neatly in three foot tall towers, others strewn about lying open on pages he had deemed important in the moment. Every available surface in the room was covered with them at this point. From all the data he had recorded and everything he’s seen and experienced firsthand, it should be simple to reformat and fit into something worth publishing to the world.

But for the last hour, he watched the insertion point blink mockingly at him on the small screen. If he were a complete machine, one could probably hear his processors fry. As it was, he huffed in his frustration, “...this is more difficult than I had originally thought.”

Always a pleasant surprise when he's alone. He's probably bored anyway. One of the best cures he could have in those moments is "excitement". Exchanging texts and nudes gets him super jittery, and he loves the addictive anticipation.

Building up self confidence slowly, but is rather shy with returning the favor. He doesn't wanna be unfair and not send any at all, but they usually are just body shots, seldom face. Muscles like that though? It's hard to get a bad angle on a body like that

He'll send back, but not the full deal. Garou can make more of a game out of the tease. Very wary about you at first

The first time you two meet is around noon at the Ghost town of city Z when he returns from getting groceries for Saitama.

In an alleyway he hears a commotion and goes to check it out when he sees that there are two monsters getting into a fight.

Of course he immediately goes into combat mode thinking that you two could be a threat for the citizens.

But it’s when you save him from that other monster you were fighting with that he’s completely startled.

“So not all monsters are driven by malice…interesting..”

He feels a connection between the two of you and can relate very much as you two have had similar experiences before with not fitting in to society due to not being full humans.

is VERY intrigued and interested by you therefore he decides to stick by your side to analyze your art and nature for research purposes. Those hangout’s eventually turn into dates.

He likes you both in your human and monster form and encourages you to like every part about yourself too.

Will support you 100% in wanting to lead a normal life and fit in with the humans. Even though his knowledge about what humans his age do is very limited as well he tries to teach you what he knows.

“I have heard that it is quite popular around young people to visit crepe shops. Shall we try them?”

I’m telling y’all this guy DOES NOT CARE wether you’re human or not.

He saved you in your human form once (some monsters attacked you because they could tell from your smell that you were a monster as well) and thought you were so attractive from the get-go.

He did have his suspicions as he could sense a different kind of aura from you but did not question it.

A week into dating it was that you came clear to him about your “true form”, already expecting that he’d immediately break up with you.

“Oh really? Yeah that’s calm.”

Doesn’t feel betrayed or alarmed because he’s known you for long enough to tell that you were a good person, monster or not.

He does ask you random questions sometimes though

“So like..do you eat human flesh? Monster flesh? No? Oh okay.”

“Is it true that you turn into your true form every full moon? You’re telling me only werewolves do that?? Geez I was just asking..”

Whenever you feel insecure he reassures you and comforts you.

Always takes you out to go grocery shopping with him because he can tell that you enjoy doing regular things such as these.

Gets judged big time by Genos for dating you but he doesn’t care.

Garou

Thought of you as his rival/opponent for the longest time.

Whenever he’d see you around in your human form he could sense this aura coming from you assuming that you were a strong fighter when not knowing that you simply were a monster.

He’d bother you every time and ask you for a fight and every time you’d have to kindly decline saying that you had no idea how to fight.

“Don’t lie to me I can sense that you’re powerful. One fight won’t hurt ya cmon..”

Around the 6th time you came across him you decided to just come straight with the truth.

“So you’re telling me..you’re a monster..but ya dont fight?”

Is hella confused but just rolls with it. He decides to stick by your side just for the sake of it. And he couldn’t deny that you were absolutely gorgeous at that.

Would ask you out in the most blunt and straightforward way.

You’d both be talking about how it was so hard for you to find any love interests because most of the human guys would get scared if they were to find out you’re a monster

Which he would straight up answer with “why dont you date me then?”

Very overprotective boyfriend. He prefers you in your monster form actually and encourages you to just be yourself but the moment ANYONE dares to give you a wrong look he’ll beat them to a pulp

Even when you’re in your human form he just assumes that people might stare at you because they know you’re a monster so he cusses at them (he isn’t the smartest guy out there)

Doesn’t really know what personal space is so he will be all up in your business as a monster and a human.

─ Saitama will run away from you, seriously, he appreciates your letters and gifts but you are reaching an extreme, the man wants to lead a fairly peaceful life and you are a whirlwind of emotions.

─ Genos got a taste of his own medicine when he prevented a pile of rubble from falling on you, he hadn't noticed that you were the only person there, he just diverted the pieces of building for a battle strategy.

─ You didn't need anything else, once he realized that there were civilians, he apologized and helped you get to the nearest hospital to check if you had any injuries.

─ You were creating imaginary scenarios with the cyborg throughout the medical checkup and immediately sought to have more interactions with him.

─ It's difficult for Genos to reject some of your offers once you manage to establish some kind of friendly relationship, although he feels that you are being a little suffocating with your affection.

─ Appreciate your enthusiasm and affection, but seriously, relax a little, his brain will short-circuit from the amount of love you show him.

─ This boy has zero experience in romantic relationships so he is a little lost when it comes to reciprocating at first.

─ You will take care of that as long as he ends up accepting you as a partner, since he is still confused by your sudden appearance in his life, especially when he has such clear life goals, he doesn't know if you could distract him from his occupations.

─ He doesn't want to make you feel bad so he won't ignore your signs of affection like Saitama, ironically he has more heart than his bald friend.

─ In general he is a good boy and he will accept your love bombing, but he also has clear goals for himself, and he lets you know if you really want to be part of his life.

─ This idiot surely saw you and he was even the one who planned to use you as a hostage, but someone beat him to it and put a knife against your throat before he could do anything.

─ Fuck everything, the cheap villain was his priority now and he forgot about you, no one would take away a target even if it was a hostage, speaking of capricious boys…

─ Of course the whim of fighting your captor indirectly saved you, although he didn't look at you when you fell to the ground or help you after he broke the other guy's face, but your heart experienced an instant crush.

─ Garou had the feeling that someone was after him after that day, he thought that some rival was after him only to find... you with a love letter in your hands?

─ You looked at each other in an uncomfortable silence and he decided to leave without saying anything, but your spirits did not falter, you tried by all possible means to spend as much time as possible with him to establish a relationship.

─ The man simply got used to having you by his side, ranting about anything or receiving compliments for any little thing he did.

─ He was so embarrassed, not only because the sight of him as a villain would be destroyed, but because he was not used to receiving so much praise and affection.

─ You may have a rather negative reaction towards your love, he doesn't feel confident enough to start something and you also came out of nowhere, but now that he knows you a little more he won't kick you out of his life either, at least for now…

─ Don't expect any signs of affection from him, he's a tough guy and has to look tough.

─ He constantly reminds you that he's not a good person and what his goals are right now, but he gives up when he sees that the look in your eyes clouded by love, won't scare you away so easily, although he might like that.

Simple Mornings

Saitama x Reader

Summary: Every morning was the same, things barely changed, but it was perfect just the way it was.

Every morning was the same. You woke up cuddling with Sai, you didn't want to move even if you had to go to work. He pulled you closed just a tiny bit when he felt you move. You listened to his heart beat for a little longer before you needed to get up.

You got up and out of bed and made your way to the bathroom. After freshening up you went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. By that time Sai was also up and helping you. Or at least trying to help you.

You ate breakfast while listening to the TV or just talking to Sai. His emotionless face were confusing in the beginning of your relationship but now you got used to it and could read him pretty well. He liked listening to you talk, not like with Genos.

After breakfast you'd either get ready for work or on weekends, you'd just watch some more TV. Usually, Sai took care of the groceries, being obsessed with sales and coupons did help a lot for the two of you to save money.

But that morning was different.

You woke up, had breakfast as normal, but there was something odd. 

Something wasn't right. You wondered what it was but since you couldn't come up with an explanation, you just let it go. But the feeling never left. That uneasy feeling was still in you for some strange reason. 

And it stayed with you. You decided to clean the house a little while Sai read his manga. 

Then you felt it.

Like someone knocked you to the floor and knocked out all air from your lungs. You looked at Sai, he looked normal. 

"Sai-chan..." you said but your voice didn't even sound like yours.

"HM?" he looked up at you, seeing your face, he was confused.

"Something terrible will happen." you said in such a voice it sent chills down his spine. You weren't joking. This wasn't a prank, he could tell. 

He moved over to you and just as he did a huge explosion could be heard outside. It made you duck down as Saitama had 0.1 seconds to react and move to keep you safe.

The explosion broke your windows, but you were surprised it didn't blow the entire building over.

Saitama held you against his chest, his back to the now shattered window. 

"Sensei! Y/N-san! Are you okay?" rushed in Genos.

"We are fine. Go and take care of whatever that was." you told both of them but Saitama didn't want to leave you alone. "I'll be okay." you said pushing both out of the small flat. 

While the two men dealt with the issue in the city, you started to clean the glass from the floor. You thought about how would you afford new windows, but that could wait until Saitama is back.

It started off as a normal morning, nothing more, but this is how it ended.

It left both you and Saitama wondering just how come you knew something bad was about to happen?
