OH DUDE. INSANE ABOUT QJAIDEN FR. i don't watch her pov often so a lot of this might be off but like. i will not stop thinking about her ever. okay. so jaiden and roier. platonic partners forever and ever <3 they had a son named bobby and he was just the SILLIEST little guy ever on the planet!!! such a little shit!!! and he was so so caring and loving!!! he DIED. ok. he DIED and it was SAD. and roier coped by hiding his grief with jokes, but jaiden just kind of. wallowed in her grief. she let it consume her. and CUCURUCHO CAME ALONG and started hanging out with her and being nice to her. and like. ok. whatever u weird ass bear.

but like. the way she treated cucurucho kind of got similar to the way she treated bobby. and ALL OF US could see that that fucking THING was trying to manipulate her by being a fucking STAND-IN FOR HER SON. and jaiden is not stupid or naive, she definitely realized that she was trying to fill this bobby shaped hole in her heart with cucurucho, but she kind of just. let it happen. it was better to use this love on something than let it sit there with nowhere else to go and turn into more grief. yk.

it's kind of canon that jaiden was involved with the federation somehow before arriving on the island. none of us know HOW. also she has wings!!! she's a parrot hybrid which is really cool!!! but we also know that the feds did horrible experiments on other bird people like baghera and quackity and they're messing with phil. THEY HATE BIRDS I GUESS. also she can't fly. she either doesn't remember how to or never learned how in the first place, and that second option has some WILD implications if u think about her mostly unknown past with the feds

OK now it gets kind of complicated bc GUESS WHAT there are multiple cucuruchos. there's one that types All proper and normal, with correct grammar and punctuation, like this. and another one that types KARKAT STYLE IN ALL CAPS AND IS VERY SILLY!!! and the all caps one (i think??) is called osito bimbo by some of the islanders. at some point jaiden was... not rly kidnapped???? but i guess like. recruited by the federation to spend two weeks training osito bimbo because he wasn't a very proper cucurucho. and these two weeks FUCKED HER UP. she got MORE emotionally attached to the cucuruchos. they are some of the only living(?) things she can count on. she is DEEP in the shit now. even after learning about horrible things that one or more of the cucuruchos have done (the cellbit chainsaw torture, the felps kidnapping, etc etc) she kind of brushed that off as like "oh they were just being silly!!!!" like Girl These People Are Traumatized. So Are You. GET HELP. like she's fully aware that the federation is bad, but she separated cucurucho from the federation in her mind so she doesn't have to feel bad about caring for cucurucho. she's really close with people who have been wronged by the feds and/or cucurucho but she just. can't let go of this lifeline. cucurucho is so important to her, just like bobby. she can't give that up.

Kaiser had to drag him out of his room if he wanted to go anywhere

And finally came the day that Ness finished it, now it was time to deliver it to you

But he started doubting himself, and was about to turn back around to redo it, worried that it wasn’t good enough for you

But Kaiser pushed him into you, giving Ness a semi-encouraging smile (but really he was thinking smt like “cmon Ness, just get it over with…”)

Poor Ness could not stop stuttering, with every second his face grew hotter

“I- HERE.” he bowed before shoving the letter in your face and running off

He basically melted once he was out of your line of sight

“ahhhHHHHH KAISER I DID ITT. DO YOU THINK SHE THINKS IM WEIRD?? AGHARG”

“Ness, stop freaking out, it’s literally over-”

You giggled as you put the paper away, looking forwards to hanging out w/him more

Otoya didn’t see the point in beating around the bush, so he approached you after school one day

“Hey, so you do like me, I was right!” He smirked with a smug face as he put his hands in his pockets

You hesitated, you should’ve expected that he’d be so direct and cocky. “If you’re just here to make fun of me you can go…” you mumbled, slightly embarrassed, and regretted sending the letter

He laughed “No no that’s not what i’m here for. I actually came to ask you out.” Otoya smiled, it seemed genuine, but who knows

“...Huh-?? You fr??” you were understandably skeptical, this man plays around with every girl

“Yea, 100%. I even stopped talking to other girls just for you, so you better accept.” 

“Wait you what-??”

“WHAT I’M TRYING TO SAY- is that I like you and we should go out.” He said, smiling, but his face was starting to flush

You notice this and found it quite amusing, “Alright alright, I’ll go out with you, Mr. F2ck Boy” you teased

He laughed, and gave you a quick kiss on the cheek, “Great, I’ll dm you the details” and with that, he left

Internally he was so happy, you actually agreed! He smiled to himself, looking like an idiot

Meanwhile, Karasu, Yukimiya, and Hiori watched from afar, silently laughing at him

In typical Karasu fashion, he felt the need to one up you. So he encrypted his letter as well, challenging you to decode it

He put the letter in front of you, and sat down on the other side of the table.

He had asked to meet with you, so you weren’t that surprised. You looked at the letter then back at him, “You sure you want me to read this in front of you?” you questioned

“Go ahead and try, this is the hardest one yet.” he sounded proud of himself for coming up with such a complex code

“Alright” you shrugged and picked up the paper.

You glanced through the paper, comparing the patterns and symbols. Karasu may’ve been proud, but this type of cipher was actually incredible common 

“Got it.” You looked up at him, only having stared at it for a few seconds 

Karasu’s jaw dropped “No you don’t- there’s no way you figured it out that quickly!”

You laughed “This is one of the most famous codes used in WWII, you know that right?”

“...”

You gave him an amused look, before reading his letter aloud to him “Dear [Y/N], I actually really like you too-”

“AHHIUSHEFLIUAGE;F- SHUT IT-” he stood up suddenly, embarrassed

You burst out laughing, “What’s wrong? Thought you were okay with me reading it in front of you?”

“YEA BUT NOT ALOUD-!!”

You continued to laugh, before gathering yourself as you read the letter while Karasu sat back down, burying his red face into his arms

You finished reading the letter with a smile, and tapped him on his head

He looked up at you, face still flushed, “So, whatcha say?” Karasu asked, barely louder than a whisper

“Sure, I’d love to” you responded, smiling

“Reo, you should really try to focus more…. And i’m saying that-” Nagi commented. 

Reo had been spacing out for all of practice, and would occasionally groan or cry in embarrassment. He and Nagi were dropping off his love letter earlier that day, and you had caught them in the action. Reo froze up for a few seconds, as Nagi just watched, eventually having to drag him away and run

“ahHHHH NAGII IM SO STUPID” Reo cried, falling to his knees

“Yea I know, but seriously chill out…”

You were just about to grab your things from your locker to go home when you saw Reo sliding the envelope through the slits in the door. You just watched him, slightly shocked as he continued. 

Finally he stood up and turned around, making eye contact with you. 

Reo’s eyes shot open, his mouth slightly agape. He did NOT plan for you to see this- 

You both stood there for a second, before Nagi dragged Reo away, leaving you there to process what just happened.

You shook it off, and opened you locker, then the letter

“[Y/N], I love you, thank you so much for giving me a chance. I promise I’ll be the best man for you, would you like to join me for dinner?”

Despite the actual letter being pretty short, he had a whole speech on how much he loved you, prepared for when you two went out. He had also slipped a few $100 dollar bills in there, just for good measure ;)

i got a very sweet ao3 comment about how glad this reader was that they wouldn't have to worry about a weird exhausting jealousy plot happening with the princess AU lumiter, which made me realize that it straight-up just..... never occurred to me that a jealousy plot was a possibility. or at least not a traditional jealousy plot.

like, you have this situation where amity is watching luz and hunter bedshare and be their queerplatonic touchyfeely codependent selves, i guess it Would be easy to have her, like.... to have her be like "ugh, i wish luz wasn't with him, i wish i didn't have to watch him with her and pretend i don't want her, i am such a sad lesbian".... Especially given her messy history with hunter. like i guess the potential is there for her to go "but why HIM, he's such a DICK, why can't you seeeeee you belong with meeeeeeee 🎶"

or alternatively, there's potential for amity to go "i can't tell if the two of them are romantically involved, i'll be So Sad if it turns out they kiss, but if they're actually Just Friends and Only Friends and Nothing Else then i'll feel totally normal and cool about them <3"

but it just like. it genuinely never crossed my mind that she might feel that way or that the dynamic could play out like that. like the lesbian yearning is there but instead of being "ugh, fuck hunter, i wish he wasn't here" it's more like "i am so fucking touch-starved and i can't even tell which of them i want to be."

when amity starts loving luz it's mostly because luz treats hunter kindly & that disproves all the worst things amity feared about her. when amity starts trusting luz it's mostly because amity trusts hunter already, against all odds. when amity starts making dumbass self-sacrificing decisions for luz, one of the first things she does is go to hunter like, "listen. OUR luz now. tell me how to help"

there was never ever Ever going to be a timeline where amity was like "if i want to be in a relationship with luz, i have to get rid of hunter." or a timeline where luz was like "well, i'm with amity now!! i guess hunter is no longer a priority or allowed in my bed <3" like.

My biggest question over the Absolute Line is whether the Trinity being defined by their losses is because "they have just entered a new universe and have none of their background supports" or whether it is "they have grown up without any of the things listed".

Because "Batman, but poor and alone" or "Wonder Woman without the Amazons" are different premises if these have NEVER existed, or if they're just not accessible (heck, Rucka's Wonder Woman Rebirth is 'Wonder Woman without the Amazons').

I am interested in the fact that Wonder Woman potentially looks like "what if Diana was Bana-Mighdall", but then, that's the point of Artemis, when Artemis is used properly.

Batman: ahaha yesss time for Eddie to go legit OR 'legit' for a bit, he's been a big bad too often in the last 15 years, time to come be an annoying detective for a while.

Action Comics: look I think this is selling me on picking it up, at least to try, though along with everyone else I'm wondering at the weekly start. I really hope it's not on weekly for an extended period and he's just frontloaded the work, because to my eye Waid's got 6 comic issues coming out this month

Detective Comics: I am totally picking this up, just to see what they're doing.

Nightwing: also finally starting current Nightwing as I might as well pick up at a new run. I am cautiously interested but it appears like it will be a big tonal shift.

Catwoman: I am also cautiously interested in this, especially given my look into Grønbekk's prior work gives me a really weird read on what this run might entail. Will sample.

Green Arrow: which numbering system are we picking up for #350, as my rough calculation does not match (I think they're including both #0s in this count but not One Million) and if you're willing to do this, WHERE IS THE CATWOMAN ANNIVERSARY ISSUE. That said, will keep reading. I will miss Izaakse on art. I sort of hope Condon can write a plot that moves faster than Williamson's.

I need to just ramble incoherently for a hot sec because oooooo boy the vibes are impeccable??

The TLDR is:

The two male leads have a relationship that's like Wangxian spiced with Pingxie. I know. I KNOW. The pining is off the charts, my friends. Truly unparalleled.

There is absolutely no romance whatsoever! (Except for the case where there are two men who adopt an abandoned baby together?? I mean?? ^_^) Huge win for the aros!!

More detail below:

There are lots of surface-level similarities to Under the Skin: Frenemies-to-bromance male leads, one is a cop with a chip on his shoulder and impeccable dark/leather jackets, the other is a floppy-haired, khaki-wearing consultant with a peppy demeanor that hides deep personal trauma... but, honestly, I think Desire Catcher is what Under the Skin WISHES it was. (No shade if you loved Under the Skin -- I just personally wanted a bit more from it.)

The male leads, my goodness. Zheng Yecheng plays Lu Fengping, and Xin Yunlai plays Luo Fei. They are both so FREAKIN' good. Their characters at first just seem like typical archetypes of the stoic one and the bubbly one (WHICH I LOVE ANYWAY) but they take everything to the next level with their microexpressions that both reveal and conceal their haunted pasts, and extreme pining. Which leads me to...

The Wangxian of it all... *delighted sigh*... The person who wrote like the one fic on Ao3 in this fandom pointed out (much more eloquently than I'm about to) that Luo Fengping spends most of the show trying (and not knowing how) to save Lu Fengping the same way that Lan Wangji spends so much time trying (and not knowing how) to save Wei Wuxian. I won't spoil anything about their successes vs. failures in this post, but I have been turning around this brilliant point in my head for a week now and I am still vibrating at a totally normal frequency about them.

Which brings me to the devastating trope of how do you save someone who doesn't want to be saved? Yes yes yes OF COURSE this is a Mysterious Lotus Casebook reference. Come chew glass with meeeeeeee

And there's also: The Girl Cop!! (lol) Liang Yin!!!!! I ended up loving her. I need to watch the show again just so I can love her more, because the whole time I was worried she would become a love interest to one of the guys she shared a past with. But they all find solace and redemption WITHOUT romance!! What a concept!

Which brings me to another show this one reminded me of: the k-drama The Guest. That show also has a glorious polycule who are all connected through a shared trauma and need each other to heal. HOOK IT TO MY VEINS.

The case of the week stuff was pretty good. And by pretty good I mean completely devastating.

The big final plot resolution was a little werd ngl but you just gotta squint through some of the copaganda, shhh, it's fine

Hello!

One thing that baffles me is how Renee and Siobhan's gifts are brushed over? These 2 have the most powerful/course-altering gifts, but we are instead so focused on the Jane/Alec/Alice/Bella's gifts?

Siobhan could potentially influence reality! If this power was real, she could play 'god' and end the Volturi single-handedly if she wanted, because whatever she desires could become the reality.

Renee's (potential) mental-persuasion power is obviously more of a speculation, but if it was real, she obviously poses a huge threat and could directly influence the Volturi, or turn their own guards against them.

Why would Aro and the Volturi not be more concerned about them? Is it because the powers are unconfirmed and/or of a weaker form? Even then, powers could be developed, and given the gravity of the implications, I would have thought they would keep a very close watch on them (more so than the attention given to them in the books). Better safe than sorry.

I'm going to guess that in Renee's case, SM didn't come up with that until later. I think her original version of Renee was just supposed to be this quirky, free-spirited "I'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom!" type but as the books progressed (and as she wrote different versions of the same book but continued to have Renee as a character in each), Renee became more narcissistic and terrible and she eventually came up with this idea that she had a latent power all along and that's why she turned out like she did.

And on the one hand that's interesting, I guess, but on the other it's a strange choice for SM to make because it undermines Bella and Renesmee's specialness to a degree. That is, she's made is clear these gifts can be inherited, so now when I think about the books and how everyone is just falling all over themselves to support and love Bella and later Renesmee, is it actually because they are Good and Worthy or is it because everyone is picking up on a similar subconscious mental "help meeeeeeee" frequency that they inherited from Renee?

With Siobhan what fascinates me is that Siobhan herself isn't fully convinced she has a gift; how much more powerful would she be if SHE believed in it? Wouldn't that create a loop of making herself more powerful? Because really, her power to bend reality to her will can spiral into horrifying if you think about it too much. It's like Imprinting and the Alpha orders in a way -- can she rob you of your free will and make you do what SHE wills?

As for why the Volturi doesn't care, I think it's because SM didn't care. They feel like sort of fun little seasonings peppered in that she might have thought of at the last minute, not gifts that actually like, matter to the story. Siobhan might joke that she willed the Volturi confrontation to end peacefully, but the narrative gives Bella and her shield all the credit, so Siobhan still just feels like an afterthought. And with Renee I'm not entirely convinced she didn't just make up her gift when writing Midnight Sun all these years later.

Because, yeah, both of these gifts can veer of into mind-control pretty quickly, and Renee's is especially scary because she doesn't even know she's doing it!

Hi Cas! I kinda needed a bit of advice so this is going to be a long rant

So last year there was a new girl at our school. I had just gotten over a crush, someone who I knew wouldn't like me back so I was pretty bored because what else can a queer teen girl do instead of fantasising about other girls. So when I saw her for the first time, she was reading a book. I thought she was new but I wasnt sure so I had to reconfirm. The next period turns out, she ended up in one of my language classes where she had to introduce herself.

Well, long story short (idk if ill survive) my best friend managed to make us sit together in another common class and that was the start of our friendship (i pined after her the WHOLE summer break because i was too shy to talk to her despite being an extrovert). We started texting and stuff So I established that i liked her and told her um one day before my besties birthday (pretty soon im excited) andddddddd guess whatttttttttttt. she rejected me. WEEEE

but one day in September i went to her art exhibition with my mom and our moms got to talking and i was still mad in love despite being rejected but anyway a day after that in school we had a small assembly about the lgbtqia+ community and how its okay to like girls, being in an all girls school so after that she texted me saying that she liked me and i FREAKED because i was so EXCITED welp. um. even tho she liked meeeeeeee we ended up in a situationship because she didnt wanna date and i was confused but didnt wanna force her

now my bestie has a theory which I directly quoted:

And then you ended up dating after whyever she didn't want to date was sorted out. She knew that you'd always treat her right and then she tried so it would be like a relationship. Then once you said you loved her, romantically, she knew you were going to be around. And then she eventually stopped trying. I think that she got attached to you at some point in time, and that's when the whole thing with the constant "I miss you"s started. The original basis of the theory was something we had discussed before, not you and me, but yeah, and I just elaborated with whatever information I've learnt today.

anyway most of my close friends disapproved of the relationship because she never reciprocated their efforts to get to know each other because both parties were going to be major parts of my life and never seemed to speak to me when they were around but i was blind and stupid and didnt listen to them and actually ended up ditching people to hangout with wonderful gf who said ok to dating 2 days after my bday

anyway so recently i been feeling like i wanna break up with her? so obv first person i go to is my best friend bc she's is the platonic loml and then she helps and we forget about it. mind you we're mid exams rn and like a few days ago i have had the nagging feeling i wanna breakup with her. bestie. my best friend makes me list out reasons and gets trauma dumped on.

basically I feel like we never have real conversations or communicate properly and it's always just kind of baby talk? even when it's serious, so like. yeah and then sometimes when i'm talking about my interests, she just goes "ew" and doesn't listen? and I help her when she fights with her best friend, but when I fight with mine she just replies "oh" and nothing else.

and the thing is we have very different schedules, but she always expects me to compromise on mine for hers like she stays up and I wake up early but she calls me late at night when i'm sleeping because "she missed me"??? she did this once on the day before a test and she knew that I wanted to get up early to revise. not to mention, she once also called my mom a psycho. yeah, so all of that and the fact that she never gave me gifts for our six month anniversary while I made her several boquets of paper flowers and shit I thought that maybe she didn't think we were doing that but I didn't get anything afterwards either. it's the same with gifts in general. and she doesn't really match my wild side or wants to do cliche coupley things that I want to do and I don't want to force her but I also really want to do them?

anyway i kinda got some shit going on in my life? and i kinda told gf that i may be emotionally unavailable but we'll talk about this after midterms. thing is. i may have told gf i wanna be friends but i dont actually now idk how to do damage control? But in my best friend's opinion it will just make shit more complicated and hurt both our feelings

Ok so I saw ur posts about danganronpa s and even though you won't play it I HIGHLY reccomed you watch nagito and korekiyo's interaction I'm pretty sure you'll find something of interest, let's just say a certain person makes a very brief appearance

What a lovely recommendation! It made me smile that someone would come recommend me an interaction between two of my skrunklies, but I had a pretty good idea who that certain person might be.

I'm surprised I'd never heard about this before. This is probably on me, since I had Danganronpa S tags filtered for a really long time, but I did tend to look at it anyway when I browsed the Korekiyo tag, so I'm still a little bit surprised.

(Like I said jokingly when I watched the video earlier today, "maybe the "korekiyo stan" "danganronpa s hater" venn diagram is more of a circle than I thought".)

I'd have loved a video with the Japanese dub, but this is what I was shown!

I mentioned in the past that I thought Sister might never make an appearance in Danganronpa S, because there are no sprites in Korekiyo's swimsuit set that seem to represent her. I guess I neglected to take into account the amount of events with his regular clothes, and the possibility that she might make... the smallest of appearances, with no change in sprites. (Show us more Shinguuji boobie, cowards!!)

If I may just comment on this event, which may be the only DRS event I've watched in full, Komaeda's dialogue seems really unnatural and forced. The things he says seem interesting enough to explore with his character, but the event is rushed and the way he speaks doesn't feel quite right. This doesn't give me a much better impression of the game, being that comparatively, fanfiction is free and some writers do a surprisingly good job at portraying canon characters, which doesn't appear to be a given here. That being said; "did Korekiyo seem different rn? ... ... ...No I'm probably just feverish and wrong. :)" is so ME and it's ICONIC and it's my EVERYTHING and

meeeeeeee.

@purplepadlock mentioned that this ending also looked like a reference to the Despair Disease which is famously another one of my skrunklies. I'm not so sure about that, because this event is about Komaeda having a cold in the first place, but being that the writing already seems a bit off and awkward to me... it could be that this was the intention here, or that the Japanese text does it a little better.* Either way, 1. still an iconic line, and 2. seeing Komaeda mention being sick in this room at the very start also reminded me of the Despair Disease right away.

Enough with my having caught the SDR2 Disease of making everything about Komaeda - this appearance of Sister is an interesting concept, though I'm disappointed by the idea that... this is all we get. It brings up a lot of questions; one thing that was never made too clear was how Sister worked as a tulpa. That she'd appear here, after Korekiyo tried to leave the hospital because of the bad memories it brought back, seems reminiscent of the way an alter in a system with Dissociative Identity Disorder may be triggered and brought to the front by a specific setting. I am, however, of the opinion that Shinguuji is definitely not meant to be a DID system, seeing as DID was already featured in a previous game, in which it was mentioned by name, and it would seem very weird for it not to be at all mentioned this time around.* Plus, his narrative is nowhere close to one of DID, and as bad as Fukawa's representation was, the childhood trauma as described by Touko to be the cause of Shou's existence seems too accurate to be thrown out the window for a new writing of the disorder years later. Thus, the question is: is she always here with him? Does she share his body at all times? How frequent are the instances of Sister talking in his stead? This was already very confusing in V3, and this event does not help.

Regardless, more instances of Korekiyo's odd "suddenly appearing more feminine" are interesting to me - because if we saw it often enough, we might be able to get an idea of its parameters. If this is its only instance in DRS, it's still not enough, even ignoring that I'd rather this had been done better in V3 in the first place.

*I recall seeing a Japanese tumblr user call out an event featuring Hinata and Komaeda for coming across completely differently in Japanese and English. The English translation made Komaeda seem creepier and forceful, whereas the original text had Hinata be the one to contribute certain elements of the event.

*As a note, I have a vague memory of seeing that Shou and Shinguuji had interactions as fellow serial killers, but 1. I might be making this up, and 2. I wonder if a comparison was ever drawn between their respective multiplicity. I remember talking about this... I don't remember any of the details.
