Nace Countdown to Christmas - Day 17
(From this post of relationship milestone prompts)

moving in together
It’s the first thing she says, when the fuss has died down a bit. After he posed for pictures with his parents and the dads and one of her kissing him. After she playfully flicked the graduation tassel and tugged on the hood around his neck. After she cupped his face in her hands and beamed at him with more pride than he’s ever seen in her face.
“Ace Hardy, will you move in with me?”
He laughs, as if what they’ve been doing for the last four years wasn’t living together. “I thought you’d never ask.”
The building looks the same—Nick has never been a man that’s big on change—and the wave of nostalgia is comforting. He dutifully follows Nancy, like he doesn’t know the way, and laughs when she spins in front of the door to present him with the key.
“Will you do the honors?”
Ace isn’t sure what he expected, turning the knob and entering the apartment he hasn’t set foot in in years. Med school didn’t afford much time for trips home, and holiday weekends often ended with them crashing with their parents, the two of them curling up together in too-small childhood beds.
It looks the same, but different, tinged with her influence from when he gave her the key years ago. His ace playing card is still on the wall, but now next to it is a historic map of Horseshoe Bay. His throw pillows are still on the couch, but an old quilt of Kate’s is tossed over the back. Nancy’s vintage cameras are dotting his shelves.
Their shared apartment at school had been nice, but it hadn’t been this. So many of Nancy’s things, so much of Nancy had been here. Waiting to welcome him back.
He makes a slow circle, taking in all her little touches, her fingerprints all over everything. When he makes it around to Nancy she’s studying him carefully, lips tucked between her teeth and fingers twisting nervously.
“I know you said to make it my own, but we can always change things if there’s something you don’t like.”
Ace reached her in two quick steps, laying a hand over her anxious ones and using the other to cup her neck, pulling her in for a kiss. “Nancy, it’s perfect. I love it.”
“You do?”
“Yeah. It feels like home.”

Reshi felt her nerves rising as the stranger led her away from the party, the two of them alone. It wasn’t long until they were outside in the cold night air, passing by the gazebo she had been at mere hours earlier.
“I-I mean…It’s not hard to be one. I just have to keep watch over my region, and I can tell when someone is lying.” A dark chuckle came from him, almost making her jump.
“As do most of the legends do, correct? Then why are you so far away from home?”
“Well…I was invited to the party so I wanted to attend and have fun.” His eyes followed her, a grin on his face that she wasn’t sure held malintent. “Of course you did, however as the evening draws to a close it would be wise to get you home. Hopefully you had fun tonight.”
Reshi looked back at the entire night. Had she really had fun? It was such a whirlwind of emotions she wasn’t sure what to call it. It wasn’t the evening she had wanted, that was for sure.
“However now it’s time to get back to your assigned role. As is mine.” The sterness in his voice snapped her to reality, as she noticed his expression was steeled upon the expanse infront of them.
Shadows whipped and writhed, tearing upon the fabric of reality until the dark gaping maw was laid bare before them. Reshi took a step back, only to be thrust forward into the abyss by the stranger who followed close behind.
Falling to her knewws, everything came to quickly to process. This power was overwhelming, attaking every sense she had all at once. Cold air grew frigid, uncaring and unbearable. Any attempts to see anything was met only by that is a thick dark void. Shouting was useless, it was far too loud, and too quiet to make a sound.
Just as she felt her nerves begin to peak, a faint light graced her face, causing her look up.
Standing before her, was the familiar sight of Dragonspiral Tower. Proud, old, and warm, inviting her back into its moss covered halls. Turning back, red eyes bore down at her. Jumping to her feet, Reshi hardly knew what to say to the man, having experienced a feeling far too abnormal to end her evening off pleasantly.
“Go.” A single word spoken, almost as if threatening her. Shivers ran through her as every hair stood on end. Stepping back once, then twice, her senses finally hit her and she wasted no time running inside.
It didn’t take long for her to find the trio that she needed most.
Reshi has left the Gala

actually, medical gaslighting is when you’re stuck in the hospital and a nurse comes in and says “okay we’re just gonna run this one test and talk to the doctors and then we can probably discharge you in about ten minutes, okay?” and they do the test and they leave and then about FOUR HOURS LATER the nurse comes in and repeats the exact same pantomime and this goes on for about 3 days and every single day they tell you you’ll almost definitely be allowed to leave that night but you stay there anyway and never once does anyone tell you what was wrong with all the other damn tests they just ran and why those weren’t good enough to let you leave.
