"6 Underground" is a song by English band Sneaker Pimps from their debut album, Becoming X.  First released as a single in the United Kingdom in 1996, the song reached #15 on the UK Singles Chart and had moderate radio airplay in the United States mostly on modern rock and dance stations. After the song was used on the soundrack of the 1997 film The Saint, radio stations began playing it again and it entered the Billboard Hot 100, eventually peaking at #45 and hitting #7 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

The horns and the harp melody at the beginning of the song are both sampled from "Golden Girl", a track from the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger (the song plays during the famous scene when Bond discovers Jill Masterson covered in gold paint). 

Lead singer Kelli Dayton says the song is about social anxiety wrapped up with creativity being stifled, which leads to “claustrophobia, of not being able to  express yourself in your current environment.  Whether it’s the small town where you grew up or industry people telling you what to do. Hi Comet! Thank you thank you thank you for the prompt. I got another one yesterday and will probably give it a go soon. But now for something completely different; headcanons! The last fic made me think, what is good sleeping music according to the other ghouls? - Ghoulette Anon

Ghoul sleeping music coming right up. I'm absolutely going to go too deep into this and I am NOT sorry about it. Rain: As previously discussed, a sort of unexpected sleep music habits. Nine Inch Nails usually does it. There is something soothing about the slow steady drone of their specific brand of industrial. Tool also will put him under pretty quickly. Cumulus: Loves trippy, dreamy music to fall asleep to. Still likes it to be a little gritty, not too soft. Likes trip-hop and some lo-fi. She always drifts off really quickly to bands like Sneaker Pimps and Portishead specifically. Cirrus: Likes slow, building, instrumentals. A fan of most shoegaze as well. Likes to be rocked to sleep by music. She likes songs that ebb and flow, that feel like falling asleep in a building storm. The band Mogwai is her favorite to drift off to. Sunshine: Weirdly, falls asleep really well to folk metal. She can close her eyes and craft a story around the music. Shes drifts off to tales of old gods and wars and myth. Especially likes bands with "different" instruments (accordions, flutes, hurdy gurdys, fiddles). She can craft grand adventures in her head to them, and that makes her slip off to sleep very quickly. Her favorites are: Eluveitie, Turisas, and Korpiklaani. Dew: A real sucker for all things slow and moody when he's trying to sleep. So doom metal is usually his go to. He usually opts for the darker moodier tracks. There is something soothing about the slow drone of them. He really likes Paradise Lost and Draconian. Aether: Loves prog. Loves the way it all flows together. It's so easy to get lost in. He likes the way things change, how songs shift together. It feels dreamlike already in a way, it's easy to just let go and listen to it. His favorites are OSI and Opeth. And occasionally he will listen to full Between the Buried and Me albums, it doesn't matter that they're heavy--they flow so well together that they have the desired effect despite the death metal aspect. Mountain: Mountain can't fall asleep to music. He likes to listen to music, to pay attention to it. So instead, when he's trying to sleep he listens to podcasts. He used to listen to educational ones he actually cared about, but then he got upset when he missed parts of them. Now he listens to more low-key podcasts. Welcome to Nightvale and Lore are two of his favorites. Swiss: Likes classic emo. Not Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco emo, "real" emo. A little angry. A little smooth. A little dreamy and weird. There is something about it that calms him. He likes the rise and fall of them. The grit in the vocals. His favorite to drift off to is Cursive.

3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?

I haven't thought much about other “canon” characters in this universe yet, so I'll just answer this for people in general :>

Sophie - Other people, except close friends, don't really notice her at first as she's very timid and quiet. Sometimes she's overwhelmed by social interactions and gives just short replies, which make her seem a bit arrogant to others. BUT SHE'S NOT. She's a very kind soul if you get to know her well enough!! Her friends love her for her creativity and often ask her for advice or just reach out to her to listen to their rambles.

Elias - Most people like Elias a lot due to his friendly aura and confidence. He's the kind of person to go to, when you have problems, need advice, etc. (... They are the problem solver couple now aren't they) He's also pretty cool to "nerd" with about different fandoms (discussing theories, sharing interests etc.)

6. does your self insert have any pets?

Sophie's parents had a lot of cats, when she was still living with them! (like... 5 in total) I think I mentioned once that Elias was never really allowed to have a pet with his parents. But since he's together with Sophie they think about to get themself a cat or a bird maybe.

Two pieces like a top and off-shoulder/loose shirt over it - comfy sweaters - leggings again bc comfy - medium length dresses & hoodie dresses - blouses - coats - shirts with nerd motives - always a choker on & other necklaces - high top sneakers or these boots in the pic (I don't know what they're called in english) Most of her clothes are black but she also loves colorful & cute themed clothes with di.sney or po.kemon theme :3

Elias:

Ripped jeans - flannel shirts - jeans jacket - band shirts - accessoires like wrist bands and buttons on his clothes - just because I found this just now when looking for images, I think he would "pimp" his shoes by drawing silly doodles on them (mostly something sp.ider-m.an themed I think bc he thinks it's cool)

Sophie's mother loves Elias and is very very happy that her daughter finally found a nice guy like him <3 Elias' co-worker (name to follow) who knew about his crush on Sophie was the one who pushed him to her to finally start a conversation. Many of the other Incremania members don’t know where they came from... however even if they seem a bit secretive at first, they are easily approachable if you don’t pry into their affairs too much. Often stands up Barry much to his dismay and does all to seem elegant during missions, checking style and everything very often if they ares still okay. Close friends can call them Gil, mist just call them Gilly. Since coming here they quickly got searched out by Bengal and Eikichi who with them and Joel created a garage band called “Neon Velocity”... where they play the drums, often to get out anger and frustrations about things. Despite Syncrean being the main rival of Incremania they also keep close contact with Mythra to share some fashion ideas. In regards to the dorm they are often the one to save Barry when he got reckless like a damsel and get Francine from point a to b.

They are very dedicated to the mission so they get quickly upset if something goes wrong...

In all Gilly is just there to share their ideas and take saving the people more serious than the dorm leader.

A quick reminder what this is; over the next few weeks I'm going to go over my favourite records of the year and a couple of other things. "2023 review" is the tag if you want to avoid it (or find it, I guess!) and both this list of albums and any other lists are in alphabetical order only.

This first entry is actually one of the later additions to my list; I'd never even heard of a.s.o.* until people and places starting posting their own year-end lists. I forget which one had a blurb on this record that made me look it up on Bandcamp, but I am sure it mentioned "trip hop." And while I was never the biggest enthusiast of the genre back in the day (loving Massive Attack and Portishead and that one Sneaker Pimps album everyone played at every party for a few years is still kind a surface-level engagement with it!), it is a kind of sound I'm fond of. So as soon as this record started up with some dusty-ass loops and some languid, melancholy singing I was hooting and/or hollering (see also Anthony Naples excellent-but-not-on-my-lists orbs, specifically this track; if that whole vibe is coming back, count me in).

But while the sound absolutely would make this a keeper for me, that alone wouldn't have gotten me to play it so much/gotten it a place here. It really is the songwriting, and the way the duo subtly branches out in places. Occasionally, as on "Love in the Darkness," it feels like they're merging trip hop with post-Blue Nile sophisti-pop and if you know me you can imagine how much that increases my hooting and/or hollering.

lightning field - sneaker pimps! i initially found this song for my star wars dnd character (lady-107 my beloved) and it's been living rent-free in my head ever since. it's very on par with constantine's simultaneous regret and lack of it when he inevitably sticks his nose where it doesn't belong and gets cosmic, karmic backlash for it: he always needs to know what's going on, no matter how ugly it is. he makes himself look at the worst that the world has to offer, even when he doesn't want to. and he's always got this inner monologue of 'should have left it alone, shouldn't have opened the door, should have asked the questions', but he just keeps doing it anyway, and he doesn't give a flying fuck about the consequences so long as he gets the answers he wants.

ballroom blitz - sweet! this has been my car ride scream-along song since i was a teenager, AND it's some quintessential rich-the-punk-era constantine to boot!! absolutely balls to the wall bar fight banger, with a flair of hellblazer unreality to taste. there's no meta for this one, other than a nod to the 2019 john constantine: hellblazer ending that's due to be continued in january, this is just a get-off-your-ass-and-dance classic.

oh yeah! it was electric / so frantically hectic / and the band started leaving / 'cause they all stopped breathing / yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

war pigs - CAKE! this cover and t-pain's are two of my FAVORITE covers ever made, and i feel like assigning constantine the band that did short skirt / long jacket is simply the right thing to do. aside from the obvious political commentary that aligns beautifully with constantine's attitudes towards bloodthirsty politicians and war, it specifically makes me think about the early warning - how i learned to love the bomb storyline in hellblazer issues 25-26, where a dying country town of brainwashed people worship a nuclear warhead at the neighboring american missile base. there's some really fascinating commentary in that issue, and of course it ends tragically, but there's also a sick panel of constantine (who cannot drive) doing donuts in a parking lot with a hot-wired car blasting music at top volume. the lyrics are so well-aligned to the story that i'm almost certain this was their inspiration for that two-parter:

now in darkness, world stops turning / ashes where their bodies burning / no more war pigs have the power / hand of god has struck the hour

+ 3 songs: for pronsias cassidy, underrated love of my LIFE, fire in the empire - william crighton is always what plays in my head during his duel with jesse, and the lyrics remind me intensely of him waking up in the river in the comics after being turned, what with the 'iron tears' being blood. also, man catches fire in the sun, just seems to fit.

for sly gould, because he is SO cool to me, con man - dispatch is the song i always thought of when i saw his promo pics! feels both sinister and playful in equal amounts, and i would love to see a scene where it's playing in the background while henry thomas walk into a room with that coin spinning over his fingers.

and for dan torrance, also the love of my life, thanatos - soap&skin gives me major doctor sleep vibes. not only does it nail the movie ending right in the heart, but i think it also kind of encapsulates his hopeless spiral at the top of the book, and the dark tint that his shine seems to have after the overlook. idk, to me this song feels like both a sunset and a sunrise, which both feel like doctor sleep danny to me.

A line that made me laugh. Okay. You have to understand that I am normally not given to this particular level of humour, but Whirl will be Whirl.

Swerve couldn’t help laughing with everyone else, but the laughter died down really fast, because thick, grey, sparkling smoke had begun to billow out of every seam and crack in the RodPod’s shell, and it smelled like liquid rust and organic rot.

“Frag!” Nautica shouted, swinging her wrench, as Velocity held her in place: “You are not going in there—”

“You blow exhaust in there?” Whirl asked Megatron. “Because wow, silent but deadly!”

Sometimes I listen to music while writing, and sometimes I don't. But I often do. And I have so, so, SO many playlists. Enjoy!

Recently, the two songs I've had on repeat the most have been "6 Underground" by Sneaker Pimps and "Don't Sweat the Technique" by Eric B. and Rakim.

Incidentally, "Don't Sweat the Technique" is the ultimate Jazz bop.

Apparently, I'm one of the few TF fans who is really, really not into metal, except for 70s glam rock and 80s hair bands, which...I don't consider metal, personally. I say this because occasionally I get asks about this; I have no metal music recs and likely never wili.

I am, however, your go-to person if you want to know what folk and country songs match up with what Decepticons.

What leads you to consider a fic a success?

Engagement. I just want to talk about my blorbos!

I think I embarrassed someone when they said that it was mean of Tarn to be using Soundwave's voice and I said, "thanks for telling me that, because I didn't intend for it to come across that way--what I meant was that he was using a modulator like the one Soundwave uses! let me see if I can fix the phrasing!"

...and they never commented again. But I wasn't upset! I was grateful. I was happy to know that I had miscommunicated so I could fix it.

(Tarn was negotiating with someone. Since it's well known that he can kill with his voice, and that for many things he won't negotiate, he was trying to show that he was sincere about wanting to negotiate.)

I don't like the type of so-called concrit where someone's trying to get me to write the fic they want to read (there is one person I stopped discussing my fics with because they wouldn't stop trying to get me to make my Decepticons "evil"), and I really don't want to hear from people who think characters like Ravage and Grimlock shouldn't be 'shipped'.

But if I have slipped up on a typo, or have phrased things unintelligibly so that you're getting weird images, please tell me.
