i’m sure at some point i will have more thoughts but rn i’m just…sad (jjk spoilers below)

satoru never had an easy life, i think. sometimes i almost forget how young he was when all this shit happened to him, being forced into a life without anyone asking what he wanted. when you’re ripped of your autonomy, told to “be useful,” of course you start to bleed into those expectations. you force yourself into the most convenient shape, let yourself be melded into whatever anyone else needs. a leader, a teacher, a symbol.

but he was just a person. a fucking kid, at the start. a kid who lost people he cared about, who took in so much pain and suffering that it had to ache, it had to sit heavy in his chest.

and he said he didn’t mind whatever happened to him, that he just wanted those he cared about to succeed and live a brighter future.

and they will, because of him.

but who’s there to care for him?

anyways i saw this panel from hidden inventory and it made me cry bc he just looks so young, it really hit me how unfair everything was for him from the start. he’s just a goddamn kid

i just wish i could tell him that people cared about him. that he could know how loved he was by those around him, till the very end

Am I the only one constantly sad about the fact that Kunikida's and Dazai's partnership isn't focused on enough instead it's abt Dazai and his ex partner, Chuuya or Fyodor and so on?

Like, yeah this doesn't have to be in the ship sense but I've seen so many ppl in this fandom summarise Dazai's and Kunikida's relationship that Dazai is a smart, silly, perfect character who does what he wants, and Kunikida is the annoying, stuck up, fun-ruiner who hates Dazai with a burning passion, unlike Soukoku.

We need more Kunikida appreciation, and more Kunikidazai acknowledgement bc yeah Dazai's past is focused on a lot, but ppl seem to forget his current partner who Dazai also means a lot too :((((

noticing a lot of ppl, younger gen and older, whatever, nowadays have this certain mindset when it comes to being rude/causing harm to ppl. “yeah but it wasnt on purpose” and then that totally excuses everything to them. no sorry, no guilt, just as long as you acknowledge it wasnt on purpose you shouldn’t feel bad. i dont mean to be that guy but what the hell happened to manners and considering the ramifications of your actions harming others? does anyone feel bad anymore? what are people so focused on that they cant just think, and MORESO teach their children to think, “man i fucked up, i didnt mean to but it still hurt you so i’ll do better next time for you by being more aware of myself/behaviors/actions/words and not doing that again.”

it's very hard for me to not message him "why don't we talk anymore?"

we used to call for hours. a year ago he called me his valentine. he said he loved me, and it was one of the happiest days of my life. now i feel lucky if im sent anything. this sucks.

im trying very hard to detach myself from him, and im making good progress, but i still find myself wanting to ask what went wrong. what did i do to deserve radio silence? it's all i ask myself nowadays.

i never left his side. he's the one who left me. it doesn't feel fair. i know if i stay this dedicated it's going to kill me. man, i wish this wasn't dominating my brain still.

i miss that guy. but this isnt healthy.

who do you ship together in stardew valley?

I rarely speak about shipping because I'm the chaotic shipper that usually ships everyone with anyone in every fandom... 👉👈 I don't take fictional characters that seriously. Every ship is near equal in my eyes, and I especially prefer bizzare crackships for fun.

From what I've seen, the SDV fandom can be very attached to its characters and there's been a lot of discourse for a cutesy wholesome game like this. 😭 I'm scared of being cancelled brooo...

Stardew Valley has "official" pairings (mutual or one-sided "Love Interests" in the game's NPC Dispositions code), and I enjoy them the most because I feel they reflect the author's intentions and make the most sense.

I do have one oddly specific guilty-pleasure fun pairing:

Both Penny and Harvey secretly crushing on Maru while unaware that the other knows, with Maru completely oblivious to their feelings, and in the end nobody ever confesses anything and they stay friends together forever in ultimate awkwardness.

This. 💀💀💀 My heart has a place for introverts being friend-zoned okay...

And I have to add a few claims just to clear things up:

-Harvey, Maru and Penny are officially in a friend group, just like the band trio. It's in the codes, but less pronounced in lines and behaviors.

-Harvey being aged up was very likely a last-minute decision, and I have some reaching clues that leads to the speculation that he was originally intended to be coded as "Teenager".

-Harvey & Maru is indeed one of the five official (marriage candidates) pairings, back when the game was taking inspirations from Harvest Moon's "Love Rivals" mechanics. They are coded so, and although people like to interpret some specific lines as friendly/platonic(/creepy💀), the author's intention/direction was romantic.

-I don't see the age thing as problematic; it just adds to the crackship vibe and it's so stupid I love it. I have made fanart of those but never posted, for fear of being cancelled.

-Please don't cancel me.

Ok yeah can we talk about that? I'm sure the admins have a lot on their hands, but like. Bad GRINDS egg tasks and stuff. And he hasn't gotten to see a LOT of cutscenes, and this one is like. Legit really important? For egg SURVIVAL???? THE THING HE MOST CARES ABOUT???? So if Dapper loses a life because of neglect it should not fucking count because he didn't get the information.

the kevjean dynamic is morally right and good bc you really truly can stick your fingers in them and do sooo much yknow. sometimes i want to write them mourning each other sometimes i want a tense reconciliation sometimes i want to visit their past where they’re tragic or their future where theyre boring and old and codependent (or never speak). they’re pretty little dolls :3

here's the thing about kevjean that people don't often look into when the general consensus for them is so bleak: they are not tragic. yes, they've had a pretty rough time both individually and as a pair, and yes, there is so much baggage between them that it might feel as if a future together in any capacity is unachievable and improbable. but what attracts me to them as a pair, what makes them the prettiest little dolls to smush together and kiss, is the fact that they were able to find friendship and camaraderie in a place that actively denied them both the grace, the humanity really, of finding connection with other people.

i disagree when people say jean's friendship with kevin was a measure of survival first and foremost. i think getting close to kevin was the opposite of a survival tactic: it was directly harmful. they were putting a lot in danger by being as close as they were, by using a language forbidden and beloathed by riko, by breaking the status quo. the fact of their friendship in the first place was dangerous. but that's the point, isn't it? it wasn't about that. kevin and jean created a relationship in a place that desperately wanted to keep them apart and as competitors, and that could never be tragic. it's the opposite. it's proof of both their humanities; it's a humbling reminder; it's the tried and true idea that we want to be kind to each other when it matters. i'm not really sure yet where i want to go with this, but it feels like this is something that should be more prevalent in kevjean content: when it mattered, they were kind to each other. they were the best of each other's days. how could that be tragic?

tl;dr: the sheer fact of kevjean's relationship is a crack of light between two eternities of darkness. that it happened at all in the most unlikely of places with the most unlikely of circumstances is some kind of star-crossed miracle. they will never experience love like this again

the thing about itachi is that he is just soooo tragic literally nothing works for him, chronically ill people pleaser, older brother as well so that means suck it all up and die with it, always thinking about everyone else before himself and also always lying to himself just like shisui states "you're good at fooling yourself, that's why you can't grasp your true feelings" always thinking he should be doing more even as a kid, always attentive and worried about things he shouldn't be worried... the thing about itachis character that people usually dont get is that he is just that predictable. he will do what hes asked to. hes literally made to be tragic and nothing could change that

Thoughts on TOTK Ganon's appearance?

A lot of them!! Some would say: too many!!! Too much!! So much so that I was almost starting to turn this ask into a TotK early review, so I'll simplify my answer a little.

I have not finished the game yet, but I have seen the memories and a good chunk of it, but my opinion is therefore incomplete and subject to lapses in judgement/hasty positions. Also, my opinion on this is kind of a buzzkill and I already made people depressed and bummed out by explaining it, so I'm putting it under the cut to avoid hurting the good time of people who might not want to think about this/might disagree on this description alone (and I understand, since it's an opinion that also depresses me!!! I wanted to like everything!! I wanted to be blown away!!).

I think this Ganondorf is like OoT Ganondorf redux, but with even more problems than OoT Ganondorf, somehow??? which is honestly a flex at this point.

(I love OoT Ganondorf to be clear, but the flaws are pretty undeniable and you have to navigate through a lot of bullshit to get to the good parts)

Between the green skin that lacks any proper justification in the context of the game (I say this because I always hear "oooo but it's because he's a demon/undead" and uhhhh no, it's not because of that apparently), the fact that he's half naked but we're never ever meant to conceive him as a human person in any way but merely as a constant physical threat... Like I'm certain the famous Ganondorf Designer did their utmost to give him justice and there is an obvious attention to details in his design, and I'm not blaming them or anyone in particular for the Nintendo treatment --but it does add up to something quite uncomfortable in his characterization regardless. Even the fact that his face rigging is extremely flimsy and makes his emoting feels super strange bugs me (I heavily suspect it's because it's way less soft anime and structurally very different from any other face in the game, especially around the jaw, and so they had to do a custom rig and had to work around its limitations --it's all speculation, and I am always here for Unsettling Ganondorf Faces, but it kinda felt accidental and not intentional like in WW or TP). He's at once a lot and really not much. I find his characterization beyond barebones. Even Twilight Princess Ganondorf had more to him than this (like the man was fascinating in comparaison, show me a guy claiming to be chosen by the goddesses while sitting on a throne next to the decapitated statues of said goddesses any fucking day over what we got here)

I like the mechanical aspects he introduces; the gloom is cool, the hands that grab you are amazing, the bosses are such cool callbacks --and he's just causing messes and putting parasites in things!!! You go girl. I do love that he's having his little puppet Zelda run around causing hijinxes, that's very fun of him and my favorite part of his character in this game so far, tho I don't know if that even counts as him --and I'm not 100% sure what that even says about anyone?

But here's the thing: nobody (beyond * arguably * Rauru) seems to be allowed to have a character arc in this game, so it's hard to come up with anything to say since he's the sole cause of conflict while being almost completely motivation-less. I don't think anyone is written particularly competently honestly; it just shows more with him because a Ganondorf who's not well written reverts back to Ganondorf at his most generic expression of a baddie imaginable, with a side-serving of, quite frankly, really questionable orientalist themes that I see little excuse for being handled the way they were in the year of our lord 2023. Like I'm kinda shocked not to see more people calling the racism for what it is, because it's... pretty blatant. But that goes beyond Ganondorf and that's the whole game, and I said I would try to keep my scope limited, but!!! I will screech about imperialism eventually!!!

The other aspect of that discussion, which is inevitable, is how much does TotK erase everything that came before? I'm sure there are some amazing Zelda theorists out there who will find a way to reconcile all of this, but for now, I get the sense that Nintendo wanted to get away from their messy timelines (fair) and reinvoke some of the old songs for a new audience, and in doing so scrubbing the slate clean. My problem is not so much that they wanted to do this (even if I think BotW's solution was, strangely, much cleaner and more respectful of their own history), but what they introduced instead: and, in Ganondorf's case, he's kind of reduced to a parody of himself --one that is so unbelievably unsympathetic and impossible to relate to and also responsible of his own oppression and also not oppressed since he attacked first!! and also oppressive?? (I made A Sound when I heard the line about Rauru talking about "the last free gerudo village falling" bitch!! free according to whom??????)

Removing a lot of the Goddesses/Triforce thing (so far, maybe it will come up) also does this conflict zero favors in my opinion, as it makes everything and everyone's actions much less fated and an expression of self-determination/resilience over their predestination, and much more uhh political in a bad way, while still borrowing the aesthetics of divinity to justify its own mind-numbing moral simplicity.

I don't know. Maybe the third act reveal will really surprise me and make me reconsider my position, but it would take a lot to scrub off all the dedicated efforts made to flatten Ganondorf to his lowest possible denominator (him and his people honestly my follow-up to the gerudo post will probably be Oops! All Salt) for the sake of the most brazenly imperialistic and feudalist Hyrule to date and its really weird and uncomfortable reimagined origin story.

So uhhh, Thoughts Bad! I guess thoughts bad. :(

The mind getting shot…the heart losing its glow of sanity during the time the mind is incapacitated…gouging its eyes out of fear and emotion…the soul is mentally and emotionally hurt (?)…the heart realizing that it needs the mind in order to stay sane and be able to "shine"…it growing resentful and jealous because of this…the mind uses this to grow its ego and call itself the ruler…yeah its all coming together (no tf it is not)
