Currently: Red Dead Redemption and Horizon In the past: Naruto, Final Fantasy VII, The Legend of Zelda: OoT, Kuroshitsuji, Supernatural, and Final Fantasy XV

5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely! I try to respond to every one I get, they make my day!

6) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Tough call, but for a recent fic I would say Uaibhreach (RDR2, Molly O'Shea character study). For an older one, maybe Let the Weary Find Rest (SPN S10 deathfic)

7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I tend to write a lot of fluff, so that one's tough too. Uhh... 25 Days of A Cowboah Christmas is going to have an incredibly happy ending, but since it's not finished yet I don't think that counts. Maybe... Match Made in Heaven? (Supernatural - Destiel)

8) Do you get hate on fics?

I think I got one hate comment on a Destiel fic, like, a decade ago, but otherwise no. I tend to tag the hell out of my fics, so I'm of the mindset that if you know what you're getting into and choose to be a jerk about it anyway, I'm just going to delete the comment and block you.

9) Do you write smut?

Rarely. My last smut fic (until today) was a Destiel one in 2014 that was so vanilla I'm not even sure it counts. But I'm trying to get better at writing them, so there will be more.

10) Do you write crossovers?

Not yet, but I would like to in the future. I have a few ideas for both a Stardew Valley/RDR crossover and a RDR/HFW crossover I'm kicking around though.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge, and I hope I never do.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

If I have, it was without my knowledge. I have had someone do a podfic for me once, though, which was so cool!

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I'm a little too much of a control freak for that, I think. I was always a person who hated group projects, and that kind of applies to fic too. (My babiiieeessss...) I do love all the communal headcanons my fandom besties and I have built, though, and incorporate those into my works whenever possible as a treat.

14) What's your all time favorite ship?

Charthur (Charles Smith x Arthur Morgan) - RDR2

15) What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I honestly would love to finish What to Expect When Your Angel's Expecting, after all the planning and work I put into it. I had art commissioned, I had already outlined a sequel, I did so much research... But I just kind of lost interest in the fandom, and now I think it would just feel weird. Never say never, but it's unlikely.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Capturing character "voices" in narration, or so others have said.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

I struggle to write the "darker" emotions in my fics (betrayal, hatred, falling out of love, genuine fights between couples, etc.) because I get very involved in the stories and tend to start crying as if I'm actually taking part in these exchanges with a real person. It's something I'm working on, though, because these kinds of stories are extremely compelling and can be fun to write, if I can separate myself from them enough to do so.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I really love writing bilingual characters, and do my best to be accurate in my translations when inserting dialogue in another language. (That said, please correct me if you ever spot an error!)

19) First fandom you wrote for?

Naruto. Dattebayo! 🍜

20) Favorite fic you've ever written?

Gah, that's tough! Honestly, so far I think it would have to be 25 Days of A Cowboah Christmas, even though that one is still in progress. It's just such cheerful fluffy fun, and a chance to give my favorite RDR couples the happy endings I wished for them. (The RDR story is amazing and the tragedy of it is the main reason why, but sometimes I just wanna give these guys a BREAK.)

2024 year in review

Taken from the list in this post! I decided to just come through and answer all the questions.

How many fics have you worked on since January?

Well I posted 41, but I have 2-3 more being actively worked on.

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year?

I did a fake-reddit-post mediafic this year!

What piece of media inspired you the most? (This can be the fandom you wrote the most for, the one that spawned the most ideas, the one you thought about the most, etc.)

Final Fantasy XV my beloved, back for a second go at being my obsession

How many fandoms did you write for this year?

5 if you include "original work" as a fandom.

What ships captured your heart?

Squall/Seifer(/Rinoa) definitely leapt out at me this year. Other than that I've been kind of all over the place, but am currently in a gladnoct state of mind for some reason.

What characters captured your heart?

Okay so I didn't write any fanfic about it, but I read Naomi Novik's Scholomance this year and Orion Lake absolutely captured my heart. He is entirely blorbo bait for me, but alas, I didn't get what I wanted out of him in the third book and didn't find much fic about him either. Other than that, I spent a good while this year feeling like Squall Leonhart was extremely relatable, and then got back to FFXV and my true love Noctis.

Did you write for any new fandoms or ships this year?

Yes, actually! This year I wrote a Stardew Valley fic, and I also wrote my first (and so far only) Destiel fic for SPN.

What fic meant the most to you to write?

Hmmmmm. It's probably the Niflheim!Gladio fic that I haven't published any of yet because I'm not far along enough to be comfortable with it. Other than that possibly this little fic I wrote about Cartanica because even though I did it for a prompt, I was having a lot of feelings about Cartanica.

What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?

I giggled my way through writing Paw-paw said WHAT?, because the idea of Noct having a magical healing cock and it being used in a random side quest cracked me up.

What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing?

Probably Fated Circle, the Seifer/Squall postcanon one. It ended up being way longer than I anticipated and having a lot of action scenes, and I was pretty proud of it.

What fic was the most difficult to write?

It was weirdly this random one about Noct posing for a charity calendar? Not sure why that one gave me so much trouble but I eventually kinda threw in the towel on it. Other than that, the Niflheim!Gladio one I'm still working on is being pretty difficult because it has actual plot and needed an outline and is LONG.

What fic was the easiest to write?

Pretty sure I pounded out feast for a king on my phone during breaks from work because it flowed so quickly and easily.

What were your shortest and longest fics posted this year?

Shortest: Sacrifice, at 328 words

Longest: Fated Circle, at 10,066 words

What were your go-to writing songs?

...the FFXV soundtrack? Actually though for my FFVIII fic I spent a lot of time listening to the FFVIII playlist I put together, which includes multiple P!nk songs (What About Us, TRUSTFALL, Can We Pretend, among others) and also Kelly Clarkson's Catch My Breath which I listened to a million times thinking about Squall.

What was the hardest fic to title?

ALL OF THEM. But probably the Seifer/Squall amnesia one where I ended up with "The Body Knows" which is a dumb title.

What's your favorite title of the year?

Muscle Memory. I started writing this one about GF memory erasure years ago and finally wrapped it up to post this year, but the title was set long before posting because it Felt Right.

Share your favorite ending line

None of them, I suck at endings. And, upon reviewing a bunch of them, I'm realizing that I often end fics in the same way, with something like "Maybe [thing the fic was about] isn't so bad after all." Oops? Anyway this one was okay.

Whether it'll amount to anything in the bright light of day, Seifer doesn't know, but here in the dark he'll hold this nascent dream close to his heart.

Share your funniest line

People in the comments seem to really like that in my Stardew Valley fic I had Alex say, "Thanks, bro" to Sebastian after they had sex, but tbh that's a mainstay from hockey RPF so I feel like it wasn't that creative? 😂

One that I particularly enjoyed was Prompto saying "The tentacle monster wants to fuck your throat, Noct.  All the way through." in ride of your life, though that's admittedly a little niche. I also liked Squall thinking that he and Seifer were exes in The Body Knows.

There's also the setup to Paw-paw said WHAT? which I had fun with: "Well see, I been gettin' these headaches?  Real bad ones, sometimes, and Paw-paw's been worried about it.  He told me, 'Go get Reggie's boy to fuck you and it'll clear it right up.'"

What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?

I kind of had some fits about writing Most Eligible, because Gladio wasn't being villainous enough, and then Noct liked him too much, and then none of the plot made sense with there just being the one banquet, so I ended up adding a pageant because why not!

What writing programs did you use? Did you write by hand?

All my writing is done in gdocs.

If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?

Actually coming up with a coherent plot for the Niflheim!Gladio fic and outlining it. I cannot wait to share this fic with you all but I also do not yet believe I will finish it, and I am not one to post unfinished WIPs.

Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?

No, I finished a lot of fics and none of them were that exciting lol

How did you recharge between fics?

I am either constantly writing in a frenzy or not writing at all for months, there's no specific recharging happening.

Did you create fanworks other than fic?

I make a lot of playlists but mostly for my own personal use.

How many events did you take part in? (bangs, exchanges, ship weeks, zines, prompt memes, they all count!)

Enemies to Lovers Exchange, FFVIII Bingo, Smut4Smut, Nonconathon, Rare Pair Exchange, and a combo kinktober/promptober that also ended up becoming a server event for the Seifer/Squall discord, so that makes a total of....6-7?

If this were an awards show, who would you thank?

@misswonderheart who alpha/beta reads all my fic for me and lets me yell at her about it always and forever, and @freosan for brainstorming ideas with me!

What's left on your to-do list for 2024?

Nothing? I'm still working on some fic but I don't expect them to wrap up this year.

What would you like to write next year?

If this Niflheim!Gladio fic isn't posted next year I will be very disappointed in myself tbh. I've got 14k words written so far and I'm only like maybe 1/3 of the way through it or less. I rarely even write fics that are over 10k words long so having 14k already on it is a LOT, but I have some confidence I can do it! I just need to recruit some more cheerleaders I think 😂

Notes From Nash: Season 15 Episode 1

So here's the thing.

It wasn't bad.

It wasn't great.

Both those things are fine, of course shouldn’t want it to be bad, and matter of fact I didn't need nor want it to be great, better to save great for the finale.

But thing is, it was meh.

The premiere episode of your final season should be tight, tight, tight - no extraneous information or scenes, get in and get out, convey the most crucial of information, lay a foundation upon which to build.

And, well....

Before we go on - If you're new, hi, I'm Nash. I don't so much recap these things (though I have been known to on occasion, time permitting) as break 'em down regarding the writing. I don't go in any particular order, sometimes it's in order of the ep, sometimes it's topically organized. Bail now if you're interested in meta and reading into shit or whatever. This is constructive critique, where I call it like I see it, both the nailed it-s and the whiffed it-s.

To begin with, let's get this out of the way - because it's relevant to what I'm about to say - that whomever is responsible for approving the release of the Jake Abel-as-Michael shots and the Sam-might-be-Samifer shots and the Dean-Mark-of-Cain shots and hey-is-that-Gabriel's-horn shots is a goddamned dimwit. They just blew some of their wad, right there. That should've been saved for gut-punches in episodes, not in previews and behind-the-scenes and all that other marketing jazz.

That foundation I mentioned before - I get what the season is going to be because, even if I hadn't picked up on it before-----

-----then I certainly did thanks to Sam's exposition anvil there at the end. *insert eye-roll*  And speaking of the end, that flashback to the shutting of the trunk was so hamfisted, it just... it just wasn't necessary. I've said this before: leave little treats for your longtime fans. That could’ve been one, that echo back to the beginning, but they whiffed it with that insert of the clip. And that's what the entirety of this season should be, frankly. There should be *zero* explaining, *minimal* flashing back, because if somebody's coming into this on year fifteen, then welcome to the fam and all, and also I am so sorry, you need to binge the fuck out of everything and then join in, we ain't got time for that. Neither should the writers. Them's the breaks. They don’t need to accrue new fans for higher/sustained ratings, it’s the end of the goddamn show, so quit spoon-feeding explanations, and with that nice little moment getting skewered, I groan at the thought of all the flashing back and explaining that could potentially lie ahead. 

So, foundation: is the foundation we're building upon this little town? Since that’s where we spent 98% of our precious season premiere time? This town where the ghosts who were interchangeably referred to as souls from hell are all clustered instead of flying away to wherever the fuck they want? Also, don't monster “souls” go to Purgatory? That specific clown was a creature, a rakshasa, not a ghost. If this is the ghost of that monster, did Purgatory bust open, too? If not, why? Why weren't souls also expelled from Heaven? From the Empty? From the Veil? The logical answer is, of course, because Sam and Dean would be no match for all of those, and we have to get them to the end of the season. But those are some nice places to start for laying a foundation: the rules of the game. At least some of the rules, so that they aren’t all dropped in one fell swoop with an exposition anvil from someone later down the road.

---> ETA: Several people have brought up to me that the clown is Gacy, not the Rakshasa who appeared as a clown in Season 2 Episode 2 "Everybody Loves A Clown". 

Two things here:

(1) Yes, I checked, and see what y'all mean - the clown we saw is indeed dolled up just like the Gacy ghost from end of S14. I think the writers whiffed this because... 

(2) ...the Rakshasa fits more with what they've shown in 15.1 (the Rak went after a child at her house in 2.2), and it also fits the theme of ghosts from the way-back-when, re: Bloody Mary and Woman In White, so since they've got such a hard-on for this Sam-and-clowns thing and apparently want to drive it into the ground, they should've chosen the Rak  

Also worth noting, the writers never should have made it Gacy in the first place, the most cursory google of Gacy would've told them that the clown thing has been blown way out of proportion and has essentially nothing to do with his murdering (i.e. - it wasn’t his killin’ costume/part of his killing m.o./routine). I won't go into detail here, you can go on that journey yourselves, but his jam was not going after a cabin full of teens, nor children’s birthday parties, nor was it just willy-nilly murdering whomever he laid eyes on. 

It was stupid call by the writers, and they should feel stupid.

The reason I mention all of these places: these aren’t just the monsters that Dean and Sam have killed. This is what it *should* have been. But I feel - at this point, having no other info - that this is a major whiff on the writers’ parts, having all the souls in hell come to the surface. Because that’s what new demon friend said - that all the doors opened, that hell was chaos. So it’s not just the ones that Sam and Dean killed, at least that’s what I’m divining from that statement.

I give no fucks about this little town. Try this: Have them going back to the bunker to re-group and seeing things along the way, such as that car on the side of the road like they did. Perhaps they hear about a massacre at a slumber party from Jody. Perhaps Sam is checking the internet while Cas is frowning and looking at his wound, and is like "A mother and child escaped from a birthday party where a bunch of people were killed and they swear it's a clown. Dean - these are all our old cases."

[pause]

Stop with Sam and clowns. We got it.

Then speaking of Cas and the bullet wound - another bit of bad writing, here. Subtlety, writers. Look it up. Here's how it should've gone:

. Cas: [frowning as hand hovers over Sam's shoulder]

Sam: What?

Cas: [narrows eyes; hesitates] Something... I'm not certain. [meets Sam's eye] I don't think I'm able to heal it completely. Are you in much pain?

Sam: [seeming a bit surprised at his own answer] No, actually. It's not-----

[Sam cuts himself off as Cas' hand makes contact with his shoulder; sees blurry, muddled flashes of suggestive visions; gasps and stumbles back] .

See? We arrived at the same place, but elegantly. Less "YOU'RE TOTALLY GONNA BE LIKE A SAMIFER SOMETHING-SOMETHING YOUR VISIONS ARE BACK BLEEEECCCCHHH VOMITS CHUNKY FORESHADOWING"

The point is, the fuck with this town? We're back there next week, too? WHO CARES. And I bet you money, with how much time they wasted in this ep and the time I betcha they're gonna waste next ep, that I----

Er, um. I mean that "they". Ahem. The writers.

----could've combined whatever is going to be accomplished next ep into this one for an actually meaty season premiere. Which this was not. This was not a hearty, filling steak. This was yesterday's meatloaf that's still pretty tasty but soggy.

It's the little things. You scrap every single extraneous bit. Seconds are precious because when you add up enough clumps of them, they can equal minutes. Here's a tiny example: Sam laying on the floor of the crypt and being like "I hear water" then it's like "you hear water?" then "yeah maybe it's a drainage line" then "or a sewer" then "let's break this open", then the breaking, then here comes corpsey friend.

Instead: They're talking and there's increasingly aggressive banging on the door, they all scootch a little closer to the opposite wall, then corpsey busts through. We don't need all that blah-blah. And as much as I love new demon friend, I genuinely do, there was too much blah-blah-banter with him, as well. Huge props on the Alastair callback, *that* is the shit I was talking about earlier, callbacks with no other explanation, just the look on Dean's face when he said it was plenty. Well played, there. 

Otherwise, let's goooooooooo. The pacing was all off, there was *way* too much time wasted, especially with all the Sam and Cas going through the town stuff. Easily two-to-three minutes could've been shaved off of that alone.

Because here we are: what was accomplished that was of import? Jack's body is possessed (and that demon is great, best part of the ep), and he confirmed the cage is open. This is interesting info to have. We got a glimpse of the return of Sam's visions, which hints at a return to how the guys were in the past, so might make us think they - along with the world - are in rewind mode, as well. Also interesting to ponder upon.

Which, this then begs: why is Cas not being reset, too? Why are his powers still wonky? Wouldn't THAT have been a real kick in the pants, seeing Cas whup some ass, even if just moderately here at the first and everybody having a "WHOA" moment of looks at each other? And then if so, continuing with the earlier questions that at least should have been asked - I don’t expect answers in ep one but lay the foundation via asks - are all the angels back, as well? Is Billie still officially Death? Because Dean killed Death, did he not? So is O.G. Death back?

And... that's it. That’s what we learned. We knew at the end of last season that Chuck was resetting things. This wasn't new information. We were given the scenes of Bloody Mary and the woman in white and the clown at the end of 14's finale. So this information doesn't count. And like I said above, the guys catching on to this could've been handled in a more expedited fashion so that we can get on with it. The writers have very little time to wrap up the show, and thus far I’m not encouraged by what I’ve seen.

Fitz/Fool

1. Set in the Golden Fool Trilogy before the Fool being Amber and him being in love with Fitz is revealed they have the head out on a sea voyage for whatever reason. They come across the Paragon, Fitz freaks because why does that ship have my face and also it's ALIVE? The Fool has to then awkwardly explain what happened.

2. At the end of the Golden Fool Trilogy they venture back to the Fool's homeland together.

3. After the Red Ships are vanquished Fool seeks out Fitz. They travel the world together with Night Eyes.

Brashen/Althea

1. I would love a bit more detail about their life after their series! We see them with a kid in the Dragon series so I would adore a look into that family.

2. I would love to see how these guys relationship works with their families, does Brashen ever really speak to his family again? Does Malta have the Trell's over and Brashen and his family awkwardly sit at the table together.

3. Generic ship adventure! I would love to see these guys travelling around with the Paragon and what they get up to.

Supernatural

DNW: Anything past Season 10

Likes: boy king arc, Sam centric fic, queer Sam (I literally head canon him as anything with whatever pronouns), Bobby, trans Dean, religious iconography/themes, Sam being a lore nerd

Dislikes: Sidelining Sam 

Sam/Ruby

1. Ruby lives, I’d love to see how this plays out in Season Five. Whether she sticks with Lucifer or chooses Sam.

2. Sam goes dark side after freeing Lucifer

3. Earlier on Sam starts trusting her and fulfilling his role as the boy king. If this stops Dean from going to hell, changes the way the demons work etc

Sam/Jess or Sam/Jess & Dean

1. Jess lives au! My personal head canon is that Jess is pre-med and being very intent on saving people. When she finds out about hunting, she realises that she can’t just go back to being “normal” knowing people are dying. Maybe Sam decides to go back to law school and they have a semi long-distance relationship where she asks him for advice, maybe they hunt together every now and again. Maybe she joins Dean and Sam and they become a hunting trio.

2. Jess gets brought back to life – place this in any season you want! Go wild.

Dean & Sam

1. Dean keeps in touch with Sam during Stanford! Maybe from the get-go, maybe after a couple of years, maybe seeing each other, maybe just through postcards

2. I’d love to see them during S4 where their relationship starts to fall apart, but like also see them still loving each other

3. John gets a year to live instead of instantly going to hell AU – how do they react? Do they try to save him? Does John tell them?

4. I’d love a sort of non-linear story of them (especially Sam because it’s been so long) trying to integrate John into his adult life also looking at his life as a child/teen. You know the general angst about how he’d done it, he’d gotten away and he’s right back at square one. Also, Dean starting to realise that he isn’t a kid anymore, and he’s got his own thoughts etc

Sam

1. Licherally anything in the boy king arc! I’d love to see him fulfilling his role as the boy king. This stops Dean from going to hell, changes the way the demons work etc

2. His time at Stanford! I’d love to see him adjusting to his new life.

3. I would love to see a bit more of him in Season Four! How he feels about Dean being chosen by the angels, how this affects his view on religion, how he feels about himself and the demon. Blood etc

4. Just some introspection anytime in the series tbh, love to see this boy struggle with wanting to be good, with wanting to be normal, and then um not being those things

5. I’d love a sort of non-linear story of Sam trying to integrate John into his adult life also looking at his life as a child/teen. You know the general angst about how he’d done it, he’d gotten away and he’s right back at square one.

Final Fantasy XV

Noctis/Prompto

1. I really like angsty fics about destiny with this lot - I would love to see how the way in which they’ve been raised effects their relationship, be it being groomed to be king or shield or advisor. I would love a getting together fic, with whichever ship you wish to write, with a lot of internal angst.

2. I would also love a post cannon fic where Noctis is alive (magic, never died, skip over it entirely it’s up to you) where they all settle down, maybe Noctis lets the world think he has died so he can live a peaceful life?

3. I would like to see a fic of Prompto integrating himself into Noctis’ life, Gladio and Ignis have been around his entire life, so how does Prompto feel about them? How do they feel about him? Honestly I’m 100% here for awkward insecure bby Prompto

4. Set between game cannon and Brotherhood, I‘d be down to see what these guys got up to in the years between high school and the road trip. Did Prompto and Noctis study after high school? Do they travel?

5. Less of a prompt and more a vague feeling but like *slaps prompto* this bad boy can fit so much angst in it. Honestly, he’s childhood is depressing af, with the lack of parents and friends combined with a shit body image/relationship with food I wld rlly love some emotional hurt/comfort with him and the squad

Naruto

Likes: the summons, Rock Lee, the squads and how they operate, Naruto getting to eat the ramen he deserves, Sakura being an actual bad arse fleshed out character, trans Naruto

Sasuke/Naruto

1. Naruto leaves and joins Sasuke on his mission to destroy to Leaf, talks him out of y’know murdering everyone but agrees that the Shinobi system is deeply fucked and needs to be fixed

2. I’d like a fic of Sasuke thinking about Naruto while doing all his plotting, be it set when he’s with Orochimaru or the Akatsuki, it would be nice to see him thinking about Naruto, wanting to stop doing so, wondering how strong he could have been if he had managed to kill him and gain the mangekyou earlier

Gai/Kakashi

1. I’d like a fic set just before Kakashi gets his genin, really love to see Gai trying to talk up how cool having a squad is! Dragging Kakashi to see his kids and being like aren’t my team great! And then Team Gai getting into some crazy hijinks that make Kakashi a lil scared about the future but also maybe a bit endeared towards them

2. a fic of Gai watching Kakashi slowly lose himself while in ANBU, of him trying to make things right and not being able to and then eventually asking him to be removed from the forces

I think you need someone who will help you learn to love yourself and that cheery little bean is Prompto! He adores the sentiment behind you fighting tooth and nail for the people you love, but if it means you get hurt, this precious man will be very distressed. He just does not want you harmed. He’s also had his issues in the past so your listening ear will be very healthy for him instead of him bottling it all up. He’s not one for drawing but he will love having a singalong with you! Rides in the Regalia are always filled with you two singing at the top of your lungs. He will be very interested in your fortune telling and will always (and I mean always) ask about his fortune. Like, every week.

Overall, a very sweet guy and you become his number 1 priority.

Marvel-

Like before, you need a guy who helps you to learn to love yourself and show that tenderness. For you, I chose Clint Barton. He’s really tender and encouraging, as seen when he comforts Natasha. If you insist on fighting for people you love, he will train you. However, don’t expect to become a listening ear for him too quickly; he is a spy and has learned not to trust too quickly. Drawing isn’t his thing but he’ll have a sing song with you. Especially drunk at Tony’s parties. Tony hates his singing and it makes Clint happy when you encourage him to sing and annoy Tony. You’re like his partner in crime for that. He’s skeptical when it comes to fortune-telling but you may be able to change his mind about it. 

Overall, he’s really supportive and tender; he’s going to make sure you’re totally comfortable with life :3

Supernatural-

Oh my… Sam Winchester jumped right out at me for this one. He’s pretty active himself so he’ll invite you along if you’re able to, so he’d encourage you to get active again. He’s also going to help train you to fight for your loved ones; he knows the dangers that are out there and he won’t risk you not being able to handle yourself. You not going to become his therapist too quickly, he’s been betrayed in the past and knowing the world he’ll be pulling you into, he just wants you to be safe. He’s more of a doodler than actively drawing but he would love to see your art! He doesn’t mind singing, in fact your singing might be relaxing for him! He’s more open-minded than Clint regarding fortune-telling but he still may be a little doubtful of it. 

Overall, he just wants to keep you safe and this relationship would take the longest to progress out of the three

Chuckling Jared looks at the odd behavior of his best friend. Knowing he’s hiding something he bugs him even more.

“What are you planning Jay?”

“Fine��after all she’s been through the last years I want to make her the perfect Christmas gift…”

“I know…she lost her parents in a car accident. Steven, that bastard and well a guy was bullying her at the SPN set…”

“I didn’t bully her…I was just jealous, okay.”

“So what are you planning dude?”

“It’s a surprise!”

“Tell me, Jay!”

“No, no, Jared.”

“I swear we won’t tell Y/N.”

“Well I…” before he can end the sentence you and Gen enter the beautifully decorated living room.

A huge Christmas tree decorated with red and gold Christmas bulbs is standing close to the window. Jensen insisted to buy the largest tree you’ve ever seen.

“So boys did you have fun without us?” Gen asks.

“No, we bored each other to hell and back without our beautiful girls by our side,” Jared says.

“Trying to charm me Jar?” Gen asks her husband before kissing his cheek softly.

“Hey, no making out in front of our tree!” Jensen says chuckling.

Giggling you shake your head. Running upstairs you try to hide the gift you bought for Jensen. You bought him a rare antic camera as you know he loves to take pictures.

He told you he saw this model when he was younger, but he couldn’t buy it as he didn’t have enough money back then.

You also bought naughty underwear for the Christmas ‘after’ party. You know he’s always gentle and careful in bedroom but you also know he wants to try new things, only he’s too afraid to ask…so you decided to make a step…

Coming back into the living room you see a bright smile on all faces.

“What’s up?”

“Nothing, we’re just happy you’re back.” Jensen lies.

You don’t know he told your two best friends about his plans for Christmas.

“Okay. So how about a snack and we can discuss the party tomorrow.” You suggest.

“Sounds great,” Gen says still grinning.

 December 24rd

After all guests arrived at Jensen’s house in Texas you smile at the round. Only friendly faces all around. Gen, Jared along with their children and Jensen’s family came by.

You had to admit you were a bit nervous to see his family. Everything happened so fast between you and him. You were afraid they would be suspicious but it was the complete opposite. Jensen’s family welcomed you with open arms. It felt almost like with your own family.

After talking and laughing for some hours it’s time to exchange the gifts. You and Jensen are the last one exchanging gifts.

Opening his present Jensen starts smiling like insane. You remembered what he told you. Now he’s even surer of what he’s going to do.

“Y/N, I’ve got a gift for you too…I hope you’ll like it.” Kneeling in front of you Jensen opens a small box containing a beautiful ring.

“Y/N will you give me the honor to become my wife?” He rasps nervous as hell.

Starting to cry you remain silent for a second. All guests hold their breath.

“Yes, of course, Jay. I want to become your wife.”

“Thank Chuck!” Jared laughs while Jensen puts the ring on your finger.

“So May?” Jensen asks.

“Really? So fast?” You ask.

“Honestly mom and I already planned a lot of stuff along with Genevieve,” Jensen admits.

“How can a girl say no to Jensen Ackles?” You giggle kissing his lips softly.

The rest of the evening you spend talking to your friends and Jensen’s family. All are so happy for Jensen and you.

After all the guests left Jensen’s house you changed into the naughty underwear you bought.

Emerging from the bathroom you let your long locks fall down. Biting your lip you look at Jensen’s reaction.

Licking his lips he stares at you with wide eyes. His cock twitches and he can’t believe you really agreed to marry him.

“Do you like your second gift?” You ask.

“Wow! I…wow!” Jensen stammers.

Crawling on the bed to Jensen you move your hands through his hair.

“Jay I know you always hold yourself back during sex, Baby I’m not made of China and I love you. I know you would never hurt me or force me to do something I’m not comfortable with but I’d like to try something new…you choose.”

“God, you’re going to kill me tonight.” Jensen groans.

“No, just tell me what you want to try.”

“All I want tonight is making love to my beautiful fiancée,” Jensen says and means it.

OKAY it’s lunchbreak time which means I can come write some kinda sorta meta for the like three people who care about both these fandoms about how Final Fantasy XV and Supernatural are philosophical opposites.  Spoilers ahead for both FFXV and spn!!  Hopefully we’re far enough in the future from the releases of both of these that nobody cares about spoilers anymore but YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

SO

Final Fantasy XV is, at its core, a story about Noctis coming to terms with his fate and the fact that he has to die to save the world.  Part of it he knows is his destiny and part of it he doesn’t know the details of, but fundamentally he is on a journey of self-discovery and coming-of-age.  At no point in the entire game does he attempt to find a way out of his destiny.  He knows he’s the king of light and he’s going to fulfill this destiny, it’s just a matter of when and whether he’s going to be strong enough to do it.  And yeah, he delays it -- or, the player delays it, at least, by tooling around fighting monsters and going on side quests instead of proceeding to Altissia.  He’s not ready for it.  He has to go through hell and lose people he loves before he’s ready for it.

In the end, though, he accepts his destiny and walks tall to his fate, and he dies, and the world is saved as a result.  We all cry because we’re sad for him, and we’re mad that he has to die, and we wish he could have a happier ending, but we understand that he’s doing what he has to do and he’s being a hero and this is the ending that this story needs to have.  It’s tragic but it is, fundamentally, a happy ending for the world.

MEANWHILE

Supernatural is season after season after season of either Sam or Dean or someone they love needing to die in order to save the world, and not doing it.  Or, they die and then come back the next season!  This isn’t a coming of age story.  It’s not about learning to accept your fate.  Supernatural is all about standing up to your fate and saying, “Fuck you, I’m not going to sacrifice myself for this, there has to be another way.”

Supernatural is about never giving up on finding a way to SAVE your loved one from their fate.  Changing their fate!  Rescuing people.  Sam needs to die to close the gates of hell?  Dean says yeah no I will doom the world to being full of demons forever because I will not accept my brother dying for it.  Dean needs to be locked in a Ma’lak box and dumped under the ocean to save the world and we know that that’s absolutely what needs to happen because it’s written in Death’s book as the only possible outcome?  Sam punches him in the face and is like nope!  You’re not doing that!  Fuck this!  And somehow another option arises and Dean doesn’t have to live in a coffin for eternity.

There are so many discussions in the late seasons about “I believe in us” and “we can find another way, we always do,” and it’s just really fascinating to me how the entire emotional core of this show is that you don’t need to die to save the world.  You don’t need to let your loved ones die to save the world.  You, as an individual, should never stop fighting to change their destiny, and guess what!  In this universe, somehow, it always works.  (....leaving aside the discussion of how all the women die for real, obviously there is nuance here but I’m talking about the primary throughline of the series)

ANYWAY

I’m not making a judgement call on which philosophy/moral is better.  I love both of these canons and I love both outcomes.  I have loved “hero has to die to save the world” stories since the first one I encountered (shoutout to Diane Duane’s Deep Wizardry) in all their incarnations, and I can find emotional catharsis in “yes you do really have to die” and “you found a way to not need to die” and “someone else died so that you didn’t have to.”

I’m not qualified to speak on the subject but I do feel like there’s also a certain amount of cultural impact here as well, like, Supernatural is an extremely American show.  Individualism and freedom are at the core of this “hell no I’m not dying for this” story.  Meanwhile, FFXV is extremely Japanese, and honorable self-sacrifice has been a thing in Japanese culture for centuries.  It’s interesting also considering how Supernatural is also a show fundamentally based on Christian religion and Christianity is all about a dude who died to save everyone, and yet somehow that’s not a thing that’s going to happen to our main characters.

Anyway idk!!  I just find it fascinating that there are two very different approaches to the same “gotta die to save everyone” story.

Notes From Nash: Season 15, Episode 3

It's ep three, and was third try the charm? Well, we're still in that little town, which is infuriating. But don't lose hope, chickadees. There was some character arc action and some plot advancing, and just drama in general, and it moved at a decently quick clip, all of which is refreshing after last week's ass-disaster of an episode. 

If I were grading this ep, all things considered (including some damn fine acting moments that elevated the material), it's an A-. (Five points were docked immediately because we were still in the little town.) But seriously, this week's writer(s) had a LOT to make up for given the aforementioned last week as well as a largely lackluster premiere, so you know what? Props to them. 

We got a loose end from season past tied up, got rid of some dead weight, and then there was a thing that happened that I’m not entirely sure was necessary at this interval, but I get why it happened. Of course, we had our requisite random hamfisted “solution(s)” and still-unexplained bits that should’ve been clarified ages ago, can’t not have those, it seems. Regardless, this episode was actually fairly interesting to watch. I’m still wary about the state of the season after the first two, but this one had some spark.

This one's in order, I was jotting stuff down as I watched. Past ep breakdowns linked at the bottom. If you’re new, hello, welcome, etc., I don’t do meta shit or reading into the symbolism of the color of a blurry wallpaper just over someone’s shoulder, I look at writing and cohesiveness and structure and flow and all that jazz. I basically just call things as I see ‘em.

More spooky-scary still seems to be pouring from the hellpit, but at least this crypt is pretty, and Harry Potter tent-esque because the square feet inside is seemingly bigger than the outside.  

Rowena appears to be outfitted in one of my grandmother's housedresses, or a coffin lining, or a 1980s prom dress, whichever you prefer, and none of them have been pressed. I'm trying to say I don't like it. They also continue to do Ruthie's makeup in such a manner that she perpetually looks approximately fifteen years older than she actually is, so in a way I'm thankful this is likely her last episode. On the other hand, I trust these writers and the people who assemble/green light the promos about as far as I can throw them, so we shall see. In any event, Ruthie is quite the good actor and I hope she gets a million gigs after all this is done.  

This Sam-Dean moment with Creased Brow Sam and Gruff Voice Dean is falling so flat, not because of them, but because we're hearing The Same Damn Thing We've Already Heard. Move the plot along, please----- Oh wait here comes Belphagor once again with a solution, this time a nice little plot rescue MacGuffin! Lilith's Crook. Just gotta blow it like a horn.

I got a thought: make it Gabriel's horn, so it calls in all the angels who should've come back with the reverse-y switch-a-roo, and they deal with sealing the hole, but bonus! At end of ep last scene is that it's also called Gabriel back, too. I'd announce to the universe that this show needs to hire me, but, welp.

Oh look, Ketch is in a hospital gown. Oh look, I bet Ketch is about to die in that hospital gown, instead of a badass suit like it should be. It looked like DHJ accidentally spoiled via a tweet that I happened to see----- 

I dodge the promo images and articles and such so I can give a view of someone who doesn't know what is coming in these things. 

-----because he talked about coming back just to leave again, that it was a pleasure, whatever, and y'all will have to fill me in on that because I kinda can't believe he whiffed that hard. I'm not looking it up, is my point. Did he whiff? Actually, don't answer that, I don't care. I mean, don’t go to trouble looking into it on my account.  

Hmmm. Was Ketch’s death entirely necessary? At least, right now? I dunno. Maybe. I’m 50/50 whether this, or have him be double-crossy then get killed later. In any event, well-acted by DHJ. He's quite fantastic. He is wasted in all the Hallmark dreck he's been in, I really hope he gets some good work after this. That's that. Moving on. 

We're 1/4 in, and I'll give it this: we've gotten some action, some drama, but they've GOT to make up for the lack of plot progression in episode 2. Belphagor is shady as shit, which we knew, and this just got reinforced by that demon who has such a hard-on for Belphagor getting axed. 

I do not mind rando badass lady hunter having lines and playing a tangentially-important role in the ep, but this means if we ever see her again, she'll likely get killed, so I'm not getting attached. 

So hell is an angry vagina. SFX, are y'all okay? Is that prick whose tweets occasionally come across my feed still working there? Y'all need some hugs? I know y'all need some better budget, that all the DC shows got it, but oh well, that ship's sailed.  

Well done set dec, I dig the ghoulish statues in that hallway. And hey costume design, I like the ring that dude was wearing, I would wear that in real life. It would also look great as a wrist cuff. I digress. 

We know this demon is not going to succeed in killing Belphagor, so once more we have a pointless halftime cliffhanger. Also, have I mentioned I'm done with Cas being a weak puss? I'm telling you, if stuff got rewound, he should be incrementally getting his mojo back, that tracks logically. See Ep. 1 notes for what I thought should've happened for a legit "Whoa" moment.

Is this show gonna end with a Jack vs. Jack battle royale? Because fuck that noise. But! Writing-wise, it's okay that ol’ Belph may become the big bad. Nash, why would you say that, you ask. Easy.

Don't look so distressed Cas, y’all were gonna burn it anyway. But this takes Jack v. Jack off the table. Hopefully this means we'll be headed back to the Empty to get some progress on that hanging thread from last season sooner rather than later. Still, I'm glad we are down a character for awhile, this character in particular was starting to work my nerves and honestly, is just dead weight. I want it back to Sam and Dean for the most part this final season with sprinklings of Cas. Everyone else is secondary.

[claps] Very excellent Ruthie and Jared. One critique: Wish there could've been some sort of line from Rowena, re: "And perhaps I'll get to see my boy again", something of that ilk.

The soul-catcher thing is an example of a great move because it drew upon the past, then built upon for the present. This heart and angel blood and salt shit, and then this “Oh by the way it needs my dying breath” stuff is just obvious “um um um well how about bleh” writing stumbles, and it shows. The only reason that lameness worked? Ruthie and Jared’s performances. Period. Because y’all gave them absolute garbage to work with, and they made it shine.

I mean, I figured this convo would have to happen one day, it's been building, because even though his intentions are good, Cas has been involved in his fair share of shit taking left turns. Hopefully Cas is going to go seek out other angels. Also, re: Cas saying he's getting weaker - because, why? WHY. This has never been addressed in a definitive, satisfactory manner. 

Right, so, like we do each time, let's check in to see if we've had any character development and/or plot progression: 

Do Ketch and Rowena and Belphagor count, since they've progressed to being dead? Dunno, that's more of a finality to their overall arcs. Dean's being an asshole and Sam's being weepy and Cas is being an Eeyore, that's about par. Meh. Okay. So did the plot get advanced? 

YES THANK YOU FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER SWEET LORD YES. But, eh... a little weaksauce. Yes, that chapter of the initial onslaught is closed, yet we know it's not over. So I feel like the ep should've ended with, after the bunker door slams, a cut to a little scene that serves as a clue about what lies ahead. I mean, ahead-ahead, season-wise. Like, twenty second blip, not even, then hard cut to black screen, then on to promo which appears to be MotW. 

So that's it, really. More adept writers could've made the material of #1 and #2 into the premiere (minus several things, most specifically minus Kevin, should've saved Osric for something else down the line), then this should've been episode #2 instead of #3. Can't unring that bell, though. Let's hope we hit some speed before Buckleming comes along to run us into a ditch, then (fingers crossed) we have a few eps after that to rebound for the finale.

Maybe she joins Dean and Sam and they become a hunting trio.

2. Jess gets brought back to life – place this in any season you want! Go wild.

1. Dean keeps in touch with Sam during Stanford! Maybe from the get-go, maybe after a couple of years, maybe seeing each other, maybe just through postcards

2. I’d love to see them during S4 where their relationship starts to fall apart, but like also see them still loving each other

Sam & Dean & John

1. John gets a year to live instead of instantly going to hell AU – how do they react? Do they try to save him? Does John tell them?

2. I’d love a sort of non-linear story of them (especially Sam because it’s been so long) trying to integrate John into his adult life also looking at his life as a child/teen. You know the general angst about how he’d done it, he’d gotten away and he’s right back at square one. Also, Dean starting to realise that he isn’t a kid anymore, and he’s got his own thoughts etc

Sam & Dean & Cas - Cas/Dean & Sam

1. I want to see Sam and Cas and Dean being pals! I especially want to see Cas trying to figure out how he feels about Sam without heaven influencing him to think of him purely as the boy with the demon blood who will break the last seal. I wanna see Dean making fun of Cas with various misconceptions about the bible and Cas just taking it wildly seriously and not getting any jokes.

2. I’d love just a domestic-ish fic, let Sam drill Cas with questions about angels and heaven! Let Cas drill Dean and Sam about human culture! Would love to see Cas taking human culture things out of the context that Sam and Dean provide him, or maybe Dean purposely lies to him about something as a prank

1. Licherally anything in the boy king arc! I’d love to see him fulfilling his role as the boy king. This stops Dean from going to hell, changes the way the demons work etc

2. His time at Stanford! I’d love to see him adjusting to his new life.

3. I would love to see a bit more of him in Season Four! How he feels about Dean being chosen by the angels, how this affects his view on religion, how he feels about himself and the demon. Blood etc
