interesting! i guess mistakes do happen in moviemaking. idk why i never believed it though. i just think that even as an amateur writer myself, the idea that professional writers would forget such an important character detail as a birthday makes them seem very dumb. but the fact that will's specifically is stated in the show??? explicitly??? and also the spring break setting of s4 itself lands on his birthday??? come on man. you'd have to be literally a dumbass to make that mistake as a filmmaker. i think fans need to trust their own guts more and stop listening to what other people say is true.

actually maybe the reason i didnt believe it was because anti-bylers were SO happy about it. the fact that they grabbed on to that nugget of info just made me narrow my eyes even further lol

Varied thoughts on Birthdaygate 🎂🎉🎁🥳

There's a few schools of thought with this topic. One is that there's a desperate hope that a show of this budget and the size would have continuity contingencies and fact checkers in place for details. And Will's birthday is the only named birthday in the show, right? So do they then arbitrarily pick a date for Spring break and oops, then it's utterly forgotten in canon by the characters with reason or not acknowledged and it makes you wonder as a fan who cares about details.

And then they give their goofy little interview where upon whatever number of readings, does feel very, very telling and pointed / sarcastic, but I do think in a way, we can't really fault people who read interviews like that at face value, because yeah, we're discussing the sarcasm, but not everyone is looking for it or great at detecting it.

Not everyone interprets what the creators are saying looking for lies and veiled answers, though we really should tbh, and we shouldn't assume everything in any article is face value, when words are twisted purposely. It's kind of a double edge thing where I'm being supportive to either side of this whole issue here. Diplomatic, you know.

In general, it's hard to just put blind trust into every little aspect of a show, even one we adore. It's a TV show. We love it. We're obsessed with it, but it's not without flaw. And this flaw? Could be disappointing. But, realistically this kind of stuff does get missed in some of the biggest movies out there. I mean, look at the goddamn new Star Wars movies. These things are infested with obvious continuity issues. And it frustrates me to know that, and - I'll talk for a year about it I need to stop getting riled up about SW.

Anyway, it could be not wanting to give away all their secrets, they're going to lie and of course, it could seem obvious because they have to lie and we know they're lying so I don't know, I'm very much rambling, I think we can tell that this one was talk to text, I'm gonna go back and edit for grammar and syntax so I hope it all makes sense.

Though... more. My thoughts about birthday gate are vague theories. Does anybody have any good posts to read up on the hidden / forgotten birthday theory? What are yalls thoughts on what it means for season 5 cause that's all well and dandy, saying that something was happening in the plot, like maybe suppressing Will's memories, the memories of everybody out west. But how and why? How and why did influence reach that far on the other side of the country? What do we think that means for the show, that's what kind of stumps me. What is the reason other than further getting Will isolated and sad. But there are a lot of ways to do that. And then, combined with the anniversary of the Creel murders. What do we think?

This is one surefire way to make sure your ask doesn't get answered. While the vast, vast majority of my requests are very kind and polite and fun to read, I've had more than a handful of people basically demanding that I write certain fics. If you're worried about whether or not your ask was polite, I've made a handy-dandy table below:

Good (will probably get answered):

Hello! I'm Eve. Today, I had to walk my dog, wash the dishes and vacuum my house, go to the orthodontist, take a shower, and plan for my 3000-mile move in 3 weeks. Now, I'm working on fanfic.

I love writing fanfiction. It makes me so deeply happy to be in this fandom with all of you and I have made some incredible friends through the SW-verse, but for those of you who think sending asks like this is okay, it's not. I do this for fun. Instead of reading some of the books I've been stacking by my bed or working on a cross-stitch project, I stayed up until one in the morning last night working on a fic that I've been chipping at for 2 days.

On average, my fics take 1.5 hours to write from beginning to end. Social media fics take longer because I'm putting a video into words, and more emotional prompts require more focused energy. This blog is a labor of love that I do not plan on stopping any time soon, but it is not my only hobby, nor is it my only responsibility. It takes time and effort to produce content that I'm proud of; requests will often sit in my inbox until I feel I can do them the justice they deserve, and constantly asking for updates will not get them out faster.

I'm not asking for endless praise before a request, exact context for why you want the fic, or even a full conversation. All I ask is that you recognize that I'm a person doing this for fun.

To the many wonderful people you have shared your ideas with me and continue to make this blog a safe space to return to: I love you!! You're amazing!!!! Keep up the good work! You are the overwhelming majority and the reason this blog is still running after almost nine months!

To the rude anons: Please stop acting like I'm a fanfic vending machine, and use some basic decency when you're asking me to spend time making you something. If that doesn't make sense, please refer to the table above for templates.

Fics will come when they come. Have some patience, drink some water, and remind yourself that there's a person behind the keyboard.

Fake Courting and Growing Beyond for the WIP titles game, if you're up to it. :)

Ahaha well you know Growing Beyond which I haven’t updated or written anything of since December 2019. I guess TROS really killed my SW muse. :/ I miss that fic though. Maybe I’ll get back to it at some point. It’s wildly AU and just thinking about the usual problems of school without Covid seems like a wonderful fantasy at this point. *sigh*

Fake Courting is a Regency WIP starring Hector, one of my London Life RPG characters, and an OC I created for him. Here’s a snippet:

“Does Lord Blatsneer know you’re stealing his brandy?”

Hector was pulled out of his happy reverie by the young lady’s voice, which now contained a disagreeably judgemental tone now that she had recovered from her surprise. He opened his eyes and sighed at her.

“If he knew about it, it would hardly be stealing, would it?”

“There’s no need to be condescending!” she retorted, flushing.

He shrugged and opened his mouth to reply when the door to the study opened. Quick as a flash, the young lady had dropped back to the floor beside him. Hector did not bother to hide his illicit bottle of brandy.

He recognised the man who entered as a recent arrival in town - one of the fashionable set. His eyes flickered idly over Hector’s face without recognition. Just to spite him, Hector raised the bottle to his lips and took a generous swig, keeping his eyes fixed on the other man’s face.

The dandy’s lips curled. “I say, don’t suppose you’ve seen Miss Dyson? She got away from me in the gardens and I thought she might have come inside.”

“I’ve never heard of Miss Dyson,” answered Hector with complete honesty. A small hand was tugging urgently on his coat tails. “But she seems to want to avoid you so I’d probably like her if I met her.” He took another swig from the brandy bottle.

The dandy’s face flushed. “You should pay for that insolence, sir!”

“Should I be worried? Or are you only as talented at fighting as you are at keeping a lady’s attention?”

“Confound you - but you are nothing but a puppy and I shall not waste my time on you!” He turned to go but added, “If you should meet Miss Dyson, pray inform her that her cousin is looking for her.”

“Should Miss Dyson choose to share this remarkably fine brandy with me, I shall certainly deliver your message, sir,” replied Hector with an extravagant bow.

As soon as the fashionable gentleman had left the room, Hector turned his attention to the young lady crouching at his side.

“Is he gone?” she whispered.

“Yes, yes, all gone. Stand up then.”

She did so and immediately girded herself for an explanation. “It was kind of you, sir, not to give me away.”

“He asked if I had seen Miss Dyson. I’ve never been introduced to a Miss Dyson.”

She smiled faintly. “You, sir, tell the truth as recklessly as other men lie, but I’m grateful. I should go.”

She was moving away but Hector shot out a hand and grabbed her arm, holding her back. “Wait!”

As soon as she stopped, he released her before she could even protest.

“Mr. Insolence there will find you in a moment if you leave now - stay a while.”

She frowned. “I’m not sure…”

In one move Hector vaulted over the sofa and seated himself on one end of it, legs outstretched. He patted the cushion next to him. “Sit. I dislike drinking alone.”

Asked and Answered: Russian Ballet

Honest question, do you think there’s a chance Kovaleva won’t be promoted to prima after all? Her repertoire is astoundingly limited... is it possible that newly-promoted Marchenkova will overtake her?

I have no idea what will happen. But I wouldn’t say Kovaleva’s repetoire is limited, especially as she is so ill-suited for what she does do. I will say that I see two openings for principal women at the Bolshoi in the next five years. Who will it be? Well, favor changes quickly there...

(Contd from last message re: Bolshoi v Mariinsky) can you BELIEVE than Nagahisa got JULIET?????? What’s next??? Nikiya for Lukina, Aurora for Nagahisa, Raymonda for Ionova and O/O for Nuikina?

Given the incompetence of the directing of the theatre, I fully suspect all these will eventually happen... But if the question wasn’t rhetorical, I’d say Aurora for Nagahisa and O/O for Nuikina are soonest in our future. Barf. 

Honestly I’m amazed at all the roles 2nd soloists at the Mariinsky get versus Bolshoi soloists.... I mean, Giselle for both Lukina and Nagahisa??? One of the heaviest principal roles?!?! Gamzatti for Nuikina? Meanwhile the only principal role Denisova has danced is Phrygia, Zhiganshina danced Gamzatti and both have been with the company for longer than the Mariinsky girls I mentioned. even Sevenard who is so hyped up hasn’t danced any principal role besides Kitri. And Kitri is objectively entry level, it’s not comparable in difficulty with Giselle. IMO the Bolshoi policy is much more prudent, I really like how they’re handling young dancers rn (perhaps they have learnt from the Kovaleva mess...?)

The structure of the Mariinsky is absolute f****ed up. Their ranks have basically been rendered meaningless. They have about four women who actually dance as principals, and yet almost all of the first soloists dance almost if not more frequently (as they dance principal AND soloist roles) for less prestige and of course, less money. If you’re going to cast people consistently in leading roles, then promote them so they can have something to show for it. It’s disgraceful to not give these dancers the rank they deserve. 

I agree the Bolshoi is leaning towards being miles better in this regard, though it hasn’t always been the case. I hope the trend continues. 

Regarding maria khoreva’s promotion, I think I saw someone say (I forgot who or where) that they suspect that Fateyev keeps promoting her to keep her at Mariinsky. She’s a major talent and they probably want to push her as the next Lopatkina or at least Tereshkina (god forbid but you know what I mean). But she’s very famous especially on social media with digital marketing, Instagram, Tiktok, etc. and has a lot of connections and clout overseas in the West. Basically any company would be happy to take her and she would instantly be an international star (with her level of dancing and being in a Western company) so Fateyev is desperate to keep her at Mariinsky so he attempts to appease her with leading roles and the rank of first soloist. Maybe this is something really obvious that everyone already knows but I never thought of it this way before and I think it makes a lot of sense.

Yes and I do really respect her business acumen and ability to sell herself for what people consider her worth as a young woman. However, I think she and the companies are very misguided in thinking that this is the way that ballet companies should be structured and careers made. 

Ohhh my GOD. This might seem a bit random but I honestly don’t know where else to talk about this (I’ll confront the people I’m about to talk about below but just thought sharing this here is quite important). So I run a Krysanova fan account on IG, recently posted a video of her fouettés. Someone reposted them on Twitter with the caption “Europeans” and someone else replied “Black culture: twerking” which they liked. I clicked into their account, they claim to be “pro-White” (now what the fuck is that?) and to “inspire, bring hope and joy to Whites” and they post content of European women. That’s fine and dandy, I love European culture but newsflash! Not all Europeans are White! And they didn’t even ask me for permission or credit me (just like how Europeans stole, invaded and colonized Indigenous peoples and their lands ahem) but that’s not even the worse. They apparently posted some photos that have Sw*stik*s in them (and deleted them promptly afterwards) and they went on some Youtube video of two Black women talking about dating and marriage in Iceland and harassed them saying Icelandic people find it disgusting, that they’re promoting “White replacement”... They also retweeted this account who is basically a White Supremacist spewing nonsense and hate to POC, especially the Black community. Saying White people are “being attacked”, defending H*tl*r, N*z*sm and racism, that POC perpetuate violent crime, drugs and prostitution, that Europe should only belong to “Indigenous Europeans” and it’s appalling that POC are “replacing White people” etc.. It hurts and disgusts me to see ballet, such a beautiful art form empowering and uplifting so many people around the world, being fucking weaponized and perverted into something that endorses such a vile belief and worldview. I know this might seem super random in your ask box, It was just one account that I’ve seen so far, I don’t know if this has been going on for a long time in their wider community of racist fucks but this is certainly the first time I have seen it and I’m SICK. I REALLY hope exploiting ballet for their disgusting purposes is not an actual phenomenon but it probably is :(

Scarlet: I couldn't stand what King Garon was doing to his people, and I couldn't trust the Nohrian nobility to do right by the common folk, either. So, I took matters into my own hands to protect the citizens of Nohr. And citizens everywhere, really! I just can't stand by and let someone innocent get hurt, ya know? Joe: ...Wow... You really are like some awe-inspiring warrior princess, fighting for the good of her people! Scarlet: Hah! Warrior princess? I like the sound of that! Joe: Well, it's true! You're always so regal-looking, not to mention you're really a force of nature on the battlefield! You're seriously like a fairy tale hero! I normally would've read up on the info myself, but... it's kinda hard to read a book about something recent like the resistance that hasn't been written down yet, y'know? Scarlet: Don't mention it! I like talkin' about home, especially with someone as eager to listen as you! Makes the missing not as strong. Joe: You miss home? Scarlet: Oh, all the time! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to be here and all, fighting the good fight, but I do miss my fellas back home. It's taken some getting used to not waking up to the sounds and smells of Cheve. Joe: ...Do you mind telling me more about Cheve, then? I know it's a small country south of Nohr, and I know that it's famous for its knights. What are some of the customs and such there? Scarlet: Hmm, customs? Well, in Cheve, we believe that those who die turn into stars. Stargazing's really popular among the Chevois because of it. Joe: That sounds so... hmm... not melancholy... more like beautiful, I guess? It's such a... pretty way to think of death. Also kind of comforting, I guess. Scarlet: Isn't it, though? To think that my mom and pop are still watching over me wherever I go... Shining as brightly in death as they did in life... I think it's amazing. Joe: I like that idea, I think... Yeah, I like that a lot... *DING DING* Scarlet: Aw, damn, sounds like it's time for training. Sorry I got carried away! Ya didn't even get to hear that much about Cheve! Joe: Oh, no! It's totally fine! I'm so happy that I got to know you better! I really enjoyed hearing about such an awe-inspiring belief, so please don't worry about it! Joe: Er, well, there was this guy yelling at this other guy who owned a ore-cart... thing, and he just kept talking down to the poor guy, and, of course, the guy who owned the cart couldn't say anything because the guy who was yelling had these big ol' bodyguards, and I just... lost it, I guess? I walked up to the cart and kinda pushed the other guy away, and I started politely conversing with the owner until the other guy tried to move me, and then I sorta kinda threatenedtokickhisbuttwithmytome... Scarlet: Woah, woah! Really? Joe: Yeah! The guy who owned the cart ended up giving me a huge discount n' stuff, too, even though I said I didn't need anything for it.
