Spoilers for Saiko! Large Family. Read at your own discretion!

Okay, so I recently saw this movie on youtube called, "Saiko: Large Family!". It's a mockery documentary about a large Japanese family with a dark twist. I want to talk about the prevailing theory surrounding this movie because I came away with a different theory!

There is this theory that the mother poisoned the first father and was going to poison the second one but her children stop her by pushing her down a cliff.

Befor I go into detail about this theory, I just want to warn that the theory I'm going to propose is very sympathetic to the mother and if you don't like that character for any reason which may trigger you, I suggest you avoid reading this. Also, content warning: animal abuse, animal death is mentioned. Stay safe!❤

Now, I won't be ashamed to admit it. The previous theory is probably what most likely happened. However, some shots and info we get in the film is what makes me think something else is going on. This theory may sound absolutely silly but here we go!

Let's begin with the title. "Saiko" sounds like "Psycho". The full title is Saiko! Large Family. I don't think the psycho in this family is JUST the mother. Why? I start with the picture. In the film, you see one of the youngest drawing a cat covered in blood. This cat's name is enriki(I think?). It's implied that the cat might've been poisoned by the mother. However, if that was the case, why is the child doodling what clearly looks like blood on the cat? This would imply that the cat was beaten to death, not poisoned.

Before you come at me and say that poison can make you cough up blood(which I won't dispute), the poison we see them using in the film is clearly a slow-acting one. Which won't kill you immediately but slowly start to make you sick over time. I believe a poison like this won't make you cough up blood to such an extreme degree that you would be covered in it. In fact, I believe Cyanide doesn't make you bled but freezes your muscles, which will kill in minutes. Perhaps, I'm wrong on that fact. But walk with me here! Basically, the poison they're using isn't one that going to one make profusely bleed out(which is speculation on my part but all of this is). So, then why did the child draw the cat bleeding?

I believe this is to signal to us as the audience what really happened to the cat. It was beaten to death, NOT posioned. I think during the duration of this movie, the characters are very clearly being opaque. They're not saying what they really mean or being transparent with the interviewer expect for the children(who also can't be trusted entirely because they're ignorant and might misremeber things). None of them except for Soumi. So, we can't really trust what they are saying at all. If we are to believe the first father was abusive, then clearly what Ringo said about him being kind was a lie.

Okay, so why did I bring up the cat so much? Why is that so important? Well, dear reader, who in the house would have the ability or desire to beat up a cat? Maybe someone who has a bat? Yep, Gouki. Which you can see him swinging at the camp scene. It's implied he used this against the mother, who presumably fell down a cliff after being struck in the head by a bat. I think the three older siblings are actually the "psychos" in this movie, who the mother was covering up for. I think the scene in which the mother yells at the two children to step away from the garden is in fact a red herring. I think the movie WANTS you to think the mother is a insane person who killed her previous husband because of his shitty nature. However, I think we can gleam the truth if we look closer.

The first thing people who believe the first theory I presented to you say is that the mother wanted to kill her second husband for the insurance money. But why? In fact, I think that is another red herring. Tsukasa(the wife) seemed hesitant to even marry Soumi(the second husband). If she just wanted insurance money from his death, then wouldn't she marry him way earlier? Put a pin in this because we are going to come back to this. If there is some Japanese law I'm unfamiliar with that states you have to wait till seven years pass to get remarried as a wife then I think she would have gotten married to him earlier. In fact, if this was only about money then she didn't even need to kill him. She was going to get paid because of the previous husband's disappearance. Soumi is the one who says this and I believe he(plus the very skewed view of the children) is the only perspective you can trust. Why would he say this if he didn't know this was true? Of course, he could always be wrong but I believe this statement is mostly correct.

It's the family who isn't the step father we can't trust. I think Tsukasa may have be hesitant to marry him for a different reason. I mean, she clearly loves him enough to have kids together, which would be odd if she only wanted money. Why add more mouths to feed if you're struggling with money, right? No, I think it has to do with her three eldest children.

In the movie, we learn that before her first husband's "disappearance", she had a third son, who supposedly drowned in the lake. I think the first husband may have drowned their son and the first eldest children knew about this. So, the mother and the children hatch up a plan to kill the father as revenge. Which does work because no one besides the family knows where he went.

Here's where things get tricky though. Seven years after the first husband's death, the mother gets remarried. This new husband of hers wants to move away. In a scene where Soumi is talking to an interviewer about moving away from the house, we see Ringo in the back just out of view looking ominous. I don't think Ringo and the others wanted to move away because if they did so, the people who would move into their house might discover the first husband's body in the garden. So, to cover their crime, they attempt to kill Tsukasa and are currently poisoning Soumi.

Remember what I said about the poison. It's clearly a slow-acting one designed to make you weaker and sicker, so Ringo and the Interviewer would've been safe if they only tasted once. Repeated exposure to this "seasoning" is what kills you. Ringo is still making the dish that their mother supposedly fed their bio dad but if she actually does love the step-father like she says she does, why? Also, remember what Soumi says at the end of the movie. He states that he can not leave the house while Tsukasa is in the hospital. He won't be leaving anytime soon. Which for a bunch of murderers hiding a big secret in their garden is a very good thing.

I think what happened is basically this: Rie and Yuuta liked Soumi but didn't want him to be killed. So, they bullied him so he would leave. Gouki figured out what Yuuta was trying to do and therefore pushed him out the second floor window. Once Ringo came back and heard that Soumi wanted to move out, she hatched up a plan to poison the father. Notice how after Ringo comes back, the mother is almost never seen in the kitchen again. Perhaps, the mother would've have said something if she saw her two eldest daughters trying to poison her new husband. But she finds out anyway. Gouki takes out the mother by hitting her with a baseball bat near a cliff so it would look like an accident. Forcing Soumi to stay in the house while Ringo slowly poisons him.

Again, this is just a theory and a possibly terribly incorrect one too but that ending scene with Ringo and the ominous shot that also has Ringo in it got me thinking that maybe the children were the murderers along, which the mother knew and that why she would sometimes lose her temper because she was aware of the danger her childern pose. But hey. That's just a theory, a movie theory. Thanks for reading!

yo! so i was watching a video on a japanese film called 'Saiko! The Large Family' and i think you'd enjoy checking it out. it's a mockumentary kind of deal and follows this family's daily life after their mother's boyfriend becomes part of the household, though something feels off about it all. but the reason i wanted to recommend it specifically has to do with how the film uses romaji, katakana, and kanji to drop some of some subtle hints. i dont wanna spoil anything more than that but seeing as youre studying japanese i thought you'd find that particularly interesting! the whole film is on yt if youre interested ✌

DAMN that was good. Me and Frankie watched it together and pieced together a lot of the story but checking the comments and seeing the baseball puns used for That blew my fucking mind. Literally sitting there just IT'S NOT HA HA HA IT'S HA HA WA... WOW....!! Really really REALLY good. Thank you so much! That was SO creepy and fun. It looks like it was part of a series as well but this is the only ep that's been translated, what a shame! The fate of many j-horror mockumentary series...

Toby is someone that mainly just wants to have a good time. To him, a horror movie doesn’t even have to be scary in order for it to be good, it just needs to at least be entertaining. That’s why he tends to lean towards your classic slashers and has enjoyed that small wave of horror comedy movies we got a few years back.

A Surprising Duo appears!!!!

Well. Admittedly I wasn't too sure about announcing these two. However me and @pyropsychiccollector have been in the workshop the past two days and I'm ready to share with you a new duo. Well technically trio since the two mentioned have an older brother :P

Danganronpa did a collaboration with Oshiro project. Basically Azur lane except replace ship girls with building girls. In this case the two you see above are Hope's Peak Academy (White and Black) and Despair Peak Academy (Black and red). Ergo HPA before the tragedy and during it.

HOWEVER.

One of the three children of the current Kamukura main family. The Kamukura’s have a long, distinguished history that goes back even beyond the last century. This is because with each generation of their lineage, each member of the main family is supposed to add to the family’s wealth, prosperity, and reputation of magnificence. … Yet this is not as simple as it seems. Because each child is expected to train and be adept in multiple fields of study and industry; if the children cannot meet expectations by the time they reach 15 years of age – mastery in AT LEAST five major areas – they are shuffled off to the branch families in the sticks, where they must live a paltry existence and die in obscurity.

Saiko, the oldest sibling, has mastered a total of ten major areas by the age of 15 because of his ruthless ambition. His younger sisters, however… Well. She knows how to manipulate the stock market in her favor, knows how to maximize profit in companies. Give Hikari a loan, and she will make it grow tenfold, paying back everything, interest and all, in one payment. But that’s not all. While they both went into music, Hikari is the performer of the twins. Concerts, public performances in general, just give her a few weeks to practice an instrument, and she’ll successfully put on a stellar show. Because of this frequent showboating, she’s great with large crowds. Her specialties lie in the instruments, however, and not so much her singing voice.

In terms of the sciences, Hikari has delved into the studies of deep sea, space, and environmental sciences. Her public motto is: There’s no use furthering yourself if there’s no world under your feet… so let’s protect this little blue dot. This has, of course, earned her widespread support and adoration for her humane attitude… though, honestly, Hikari has made under-the-table deals that are not so altruistic or helpful to the environment… However, these deals have expanded the Kamukura coffers, so the family turns a blind eye to anything Hikari arranges off the books.

Hikari is also multilingual – at her young age, she’s comfortable with eight of the most common languages in the world – Japanese, English, Spanish, Chinese, French, etc. And she’s begun to look into more obscure languages, because another of her mottos is… “Communication is key.” The more people from around the world she can communicate with, the more deals she can make for the Kamukura family to prosper.

Finally, her fifth major area is that she is skilled in physical combat – mainly self-defense, but she has dabbled in karate, and other refined fighting styles that most common thugs won’t even want to touch. She took up this area for her own and Yuutsu’s protection, because the Kamukura family has made far too many enemies over the years… And it pays to be prepared for physical conflicts. … Not to mention, sometimes people need “motivation” to agree to something, and nothing quite motivates like a little physical punishment~ Mongrels may call it brutality. Hikari calls it efficiency. (人◕ω◕)

Yuutsu Kamukura - Ultimate Leader, Singer, Producer, Speaker, Programmer, Chemist, Nurse, Lawyer, and Engineer

One of the three children of the current Kamukura main family. The Kamukura’s have a long, distinguished history that goes back even beyond the last century. This is because with each generation of their lineage, each member of the main family is supposed to add to the family’s wealth, prosperity, and reputation of magnificence. … Yet this is not as simple as it seems. Because each child is expected to train and be adept in multiple fields of study and industry; if the children cannot meet expectations by the time they reach 15 years of age – mastery in AT LEAST five major areas – they are shuffled off to the branch families in the sticks, where they must live a paltry existence and die in obscurity.

Saiko, the oldest sibling, has mastered a total of ten major areas by the age of 15 because of his ruthless ambition. His younger sisters, however… Well. Yuutsu is VERY good at motivating workers, managers, whoever… to do their very best, or she WILL replace them. She’s also the more confrontational one between the twins; rival companies beware, Yuutsu Kamukura does not lose. Period.

If Hikari is the performer, the crowd pleaser, then Yuutsu is the singer. She also deals in the recording of music – both online and hard copies – and dabbles in electronic music. But Yuutsu is also the one that goes on TV and does the talkshows and makes press conference statements. Yuutsu is so adept at working computers, she’s the technological one of the twins. In the sciences, she’s well-versed in chemistry and medical sciences. … More specifically, Yuutsu is familiar with various human conditions, how they die, how they extend life… She was assigned to oversee a few hospitals that had questionable reputations; and she turned them around by replacing the staff that knew what they were doing, or weren’t outright crooks posing as doctors… With the Kamukura family resources, she then proceeded to give them access to better equipment to treat patients, and overall made healthcare more affordable in these districts (albeit, this part was largely handled by Hikari… but shhh).

Yuutsu developed a fascination with law… mainly because she was part of the upper echelon, and thus she possessed the power to shape and bend the laws as she saw fit. Naturally, criminals should be brought to justice~… However! If the crooks are guilty of embezzling money from their companies, and are open to donating that money to a “worthy cause”, for example… Or if they’re murderers that are open to new employment (of COURSE not the Kamukura’s~… That’s just crazy~!)… Well. There’s nothing illegal about jailbreaks or falsified executions. Nope. Yuutsu knows the laws backwards and forwards, so Yuutsu knows best~… Right~?

Finally, Yuutsu is also well-versed in… trap-making. Her skill with technology is excellent enough that she can hack into security systems, know shortcuts around things that aren’t hack-able, tricks to open various doors (even ironclad safes)… But it’s because she knows how to get around stuff that she knows the best way to protect what’s valuable to her… and (to an extent) Hikari. Beware of stepping into Yuutsu’s property; if you weren’t invited, you’ll be sorryyy~… And if you were invited, well… Be careful anyways. Sometimes, Yuutsu likes to mess with you. Replacing Shuji and Takumi who will be put into the reserve course. (人◕ω◕) This doesn't affect canon of the hope universe since those two were placeholders, to begin with.

It's time I stop putting this off and talk about our main girl and the game rewrite I've been bouncing around in my head. So just a reminder of the last time I drew these redesigns. This Yandere Simulator rewrite is based on the idea that the current game never existed and 1980s mode is the main game. Because Ryoba is the better main character.

Speaking of 1980s mode. I can't rewrite Ayano's story without first rewriting Ryoba's. When I say that I'm referring more to backstory and the 1980s mode ending. Gameplay story would pretty much stay the same with a few tweaks here or there. So to start, Ryoba is the only Yandere in this story. There is no Aishi gene. None of the other female members of her family are Yanderes. I basically want to turn Ryoba into the villian.

Yes I realize she's already meant to be a villian. Yanderes are traditionally villian type characters. I basically mean Ryoba would be the villian protagonist you play as is in Yandere Simulator (can I rename Ryoba's game 1989: a yandere simulator?), and she would be the villian/antagonist in the sequel. In which Ayano is the protagonist.

Rewrite will be done in timeline form because it's easier.

1968:

Ryoba's parents meet for the first time. Ryoba's father is the last living member of the wealthy Aishi family. Her mother the daughter of a fisherman living in a small fishing town. Their meeting happens entirely by chance and is love at first sight for Mr. Aishi.

1970: *Ryoba's parents are married. Mr. Aishi brings his new wive to the city to live in the old Aishi family home.

1971:

Ryoba is born

1973: *Ryoba's sister is born

We interrupt this timeline to inform you, that while Ryoba's mother isn't a yandere, Mrs. Aishi is an extremely possessive and jealous person. She is a stay at home mom while Mr. Aishi works and travels many hours to maintain the Aishi family fortune. So sadly, he isn't home to see the how abusive his wife is to his daughters.

1981:

*Mr. Aishi passes away in an unfortunate accident.*Mrs. Aishi's abuse increases and the last of the Aishi's begin to lose their fortune.

1984:

*Servents are fired and large sections of the Aishi home is sealed off to preserve some of the family fortune.

1988:

*Ryoba enrolls in Akademi.

*Ryoba's sister runs away from home. She becomes involved with a girl gang and is eventually arrested for petty crimes. She is sent to a juvenile training school for girls (I'm assuming it's like Japan's equivalent of group homes/detention centers for underage delinquents. I did a little bit of research but not an expert so correct me if I'm wrong. The point is she's no longer at home. and her family doesn't know where she is.)

*Ryoba falls for an upper classmate. Her senpai.

1989:

*Mrs. Aishi gets sick and is bedridden (game vaguely hints that Ryoba is poisoning her).

*Ryoba kills her first victim

*Mr. Saiko reacts immediately by pulling his daughter from the school and hiring a top-class detective to investigate.

*Ryoba continues her murder spree cautiously.

*Ryoba's public trial is held and televised. She is declared innocent, the detective is disgraced, and Akademi's reputation is tarnished.

*Ryoba confesses her feelings to her senpai under the cherry blossom tree. He rejects her. Ryoba snaps.

*He is kidnapped and held prisoner in the basement of the Aishi home.

1990:

*Ryoba graduates from Akademi

*Mrs. Aishi succumbs to her illness and passes away. She leaves everything to Ryoba in her will

*Ryoba flees Japan to a remote European country with her prisoner in tow.

1991:

*Ryoba's sister meets her future husband (19)

1995:

*Ryoba's sister is married while attending university

1996:

*Megami is born

*Taro is born

1997:

*Ryoba's sister and her husband move to America. They're social workers. She specifically helps kids in abusive situations.

*Ryoba gives birth to her daughter Ayano
