blue: pjo mention red: legendborn cycle mention black: jst in general i honestly don't care much about the shipping portion of books. like, pjo; there are a lot of other interesting plot points than ships and pjo's never been just about romance yk? it's about so many other things. sometimes, shipping ruins shit for a fandom, especially when people are out here harassing people for harmless ships. when i say harmless ships, i mean ships that don't have pedophilia, zoophilia, incest, and more. scarily enough, there are plenty of ships like that I'm gonna choose not to tag or comment because lowkey interacting with people who scream at you for not liking their ship is something way too common in the fandom. also, legendborn. this book series has a lot going for it (if it can get better after bloodmarked..) but i see a lot of people only focusing on the shipping portion which is very strange to me. this book is about representation and ancestry and finding your roots, not about which boy bree should kiss. i mean, is the romance cute? sure. but let's stop shoving aside the actual plot for it also, mind you, the amount of people i've seen getting attacked for not being a big fan of canon ships is insane. some people think canon is some kind of holy grail, and that changing it is akin to sacrilege and I just do not get it. why does canon matter if some guy says “I’d prefer it to be like this”, and it's still an innocent ship? it’s just an excuse for people who clearly need to go outside to say “uhm actually you’re having fun wrong 🤓, leave this fandom now, you don't deserve to be here”. but also, mind you, if someone makes an anti post of your favorite ship or character /or/ a pro post of your least favorite, stop going after them. damn. scroll past. even block them if you want. it's not difficult. people are entitled to their own opinions and they can choose for themselves what characters they like and dont like. would you like to be attacked for liking/disliking a character? of course not. literally no one wants to wake up to that. TL;DR: sometimes, shipping can ruin a fandom, especially when people harass people over it, and canon doesn't have to be followed, and sometimes anti/pro really isn't that deep when it comes to book characters

My screams have been surprisingly vocal, considering I have to keep them so quiet (it's after midnight and my parents are upstairs asleep), but screaming I have been because Selwyn! And Harry! But mostly Selwyn! And Martha followed him to Saint Marie! And did I mention Selwyn!?!
If we don't get the DiP crew in Shipton Abbott for Humphrey and Martha's wedding, I'll be offended! I mean there's a whole new town (and that Chief Superintendent) for Selwyn to impart his wisdom to and the original crew can help solve a crime or two - maybe Dwayne can visit as well because why not!?!
And even if they don't have kids, they can adopt like anything - four cats, a pair of Russian Bear Dogs, seven chickens and a blind rabbit and maybe a delinquent teenager, because yes that is all crazy, but good crazy, fun crazy and who doesn't want to see Kelbie be dragged around by a horse-sized dog!?!

I wish we got a lot more of Lois/Bruce in comics/stas, they're one of my favourite canon rare pairs. Every so often I go to read some of the (very sparse) fics but for whatever reason I can never stomach them. They are amazing on paper and in my mind, but somehow in fanfic I can't help but feel guilty for abandoning Clark

Beyond Paradise season two has an official release date – and it's soon.
The Death in Paradise spin-off will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for a second instalment on March 22, with six new episodes dropping weekly on Fridays at 8pm.
In addition to the release date news, the BBC shared first-look photos of the returning cast, plus details of the guest stars appearing in season two.
Kris Marshall will reprise his role as DI Humphrey Goodman with actress Sally Bretton returning as his fiancee Martha Lloyd and Zahra Ahmadi as Goodman's sidekick DS Esther Williams. Derry Girls' Dylan Llewellyn is also back as PC Kelby Hartford alongside Barbara Flynn (Anne Lloyd) and Felicity Montagu (Margo Martins).
Special guest stars set to appear in Shipton Abbott include All Creatures Great and Small star Peter Davison, Holby City actor Paul Bradley and Abi Clarke of The Emily Atack Show fame.
Bradley and Clarke are pictured in their roles alongside fellow guest star Ted Lasso's Peter Landi, Death in Paradise alumni Anna Crilly and Kris Marshall in a train carriage in one new teaser photo.
"Shipton Abbott continues to keep DI Humphrey Goodman and his team busy, with a baffling new crime each episode," reads the official season two synopsis. "From a death on a steam train to a missing teacher, the team have their work cut out. Even more so with Police HQ's threat of the local station house closure hanging over them – the pressure is on to get results.
"Meanwhile, Humphrey and Martha's journey to find their own version of a family continues as they explore the possibility of fostering. Martha's mother Anne throws herself into the world of online dating, and a well-meant gesture from Esther's daughter Zoe threatens to uncover a long-held secret."
Supporting cast members Jade Harison (CS Charlie Woods), Melina Sinadinou (Zoe), Eva Feiler (Lucy), Isaac Vincent-Norgate (Ryan) and Amalia Vitale (Hannah) are back – with Selwyn the Duck also confirmed for a screen return.
Beyond Paradise season 2 airs March 22 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8pm.

The Chronological Superman 1963:
One of the sadder chapters in the Man of Steel’s romantic existence (written, unsurprisingly, by the often bittersweet pen of Jerry Siegel) takes place in the pages of Superman vol.1 No.165.
Robbed of his powers and memory by, naturally, an errant piece of Red K, Superman adopts the identity of Jim White and finds both employment and love with ranch owner Sally Selwyn. The blonde beauty loves the man behind the costume, even if neither of them are aware of ‘Jim’s’ connection to Superman. Poor, heartbroken Sally...

Who would you have Superman end up with if it couldn't be Lois? (Or, please justify my Saturn Girl/Superboy ship;))
On the understanding that I don’t *really* think another romance could work: Lana seems like the immediate obvious choice, but she’s too much of a symbol of Smallville and how that time in his life is behind him, so it feels off. Cat Grant’d never happen. Wonder Woman’s a whole article unto itself (maybe I’ll write it soon now that Jurgens confirmed on Twitter they’ve never been together in the currently operating timeline), but no. Maxima’s clearly off the table, even in spite of that hilariously mean cover where she and Superman make out on top of Lois’s grave. Assuming he was bi, Jimmy’s his pal and I feel like it’d be more weird than anything else, Batman isn’t exactly relationship material, and much as Smallville popularized it, Lex kinda sorta really wants to murder him all of the time. Historically he’d be fine with Lyla Lerrol or Luna Lynai, but they have the problem of being super dead and unbearably creepy, respectively.
The first option that strikes me as being at least kind of possible is Lori Lemaris. Yeah, it’d be hard for a lot of fans to swallow, but the idea of Superman dating a mermaid has always been a winner. Specifically I like the idea of Clark dating her, and everyone just shrugging it off their dorky coworker’s girlfriend being a mermaid as totally normal, because Jimmy nearly married the princess of the 5th dimension that one time and Lois dated Hercules once or twice. The tradeoff though is that her world would become an inherent part of his mythology, and unless you Brave-and-the-Boldified him and made him the goofy in-law, Superman’s already shaky rep can’t afford to have Aquaman as a fundamental aspect of his world. I know Saturn Girl and Zatanna are brought up by fans fairly often - I know he’s kissed Saturn Girl once or twice in the comics - and I guess I don’t have anything strongly against that. Sally Selwyn would probably be fine, assuming she and “Jim White” ever found each other again. If I really had to pick though - cheap as I acknowledge it is, given clearly her original purpose was at least in part as a Lois stand-in - I’d go with Chloe Sullivan. I always liked her on Smallville until her faux-Whedon wordplay reached a ghoulish critical mass in the last couple seasons, and she deserved better than Jimmy Olsen’s identical older brother and dimestore lime-flavored Batman.

I know that DC didn’t do this on purpose, it’s just the result of decades of serial storytelling under different creative teams, but the best thing about Superman is that the world’s greatest hero has objectively terrible taste in romantic partners.
It doesn’t matter who you ship him with. Lois? Roofied Clark on their second date. Batman? Has multiple plans to kill his ‘best friend’. Lana? Casually breaks into other people’s houses when she’s bored. They’re all terrible people and Clark loves each and every one of them.

POPPY
1923
Tumblr media
Poppy is a musical in three acts by Dorothy Donnelly with music by Stephen Jones and Arthur Samuels with musical contributions by John Egan. It was produced by Philip Goodman and staged by Donnelly and Julian Alfred, starring Madge Kennedy as Poppy McGargle and featuring W.C. Fields as her adopted father, Professor McGargle.
Tumblr media
The musical introduced songs such as "Two Make a Home", "On Our Honeymoon", "What Do You Do Sunday, Mary?" and "Alibi Baby".
The musical takes place in Greenmeadow, Connecticut in 1874. Professor Eustice McGargle, a juggler and hustler who runs a traveling circus, adopts an orphan, Poppy. He teaches her to be a con artist. When the circus passes through a small town, Poppy meets a wealthy local boy, William. McGargle learns that Princess Vronski Mameluke Pasha Tubbs has a long-lost daughter, and he tries to pass Poppy off as the heiress. In the end she turns out to be the true heir and marries William.
"What a gorgeous day! What effulgent sunshine! Effulgent sunshine, yes. 'Twas a day of this sort, the McGillicuddy brothers murdered their mother with an axe!" ~ W.C. FIELDS as PROFESSOR MCGARGLE
Tumblr media
One of W.C. Fields’s first paying jobs as an entertainer was in 1893 when he worked as a juggler at Fortescue’s Pier in Atlantic City. When business was slow, Fields would pretend to be drowning in the ocean and had to be fake rescued. His bosses believed that his near-drowning and dramatic rescue would draw a crowd of customers.
Tumblr media
Poppy opened in Atlantic City at Nixon’s Apollo Theatre on August 13, 1923. The week of August 20th, Poppy played a split week in Long Branch and Asbury Park. Just prior to Broadway, it played a week in Newark NJ.
“Our idea of a way to waste what we consider the most charming farceur on the American stage is to cast Miss Madge Kennedy in musical comedy. "Poppy" by any other name at the Main Street would be Just as soporific, so far as Miss Kennedy is concerned.” ~ ASBURY PARK PRESS
Tumblr media
While performing in Poppy, Madge Kennedy was also seen on cinema screens in The Purple Highway. The film was based on a 1921 play, although Kennedy did not star in it on Broadway.
Tumblr media
Poppy opened on Broadway at the Apollo Theatre (223 West 42nd Street) on September 3, 1923.
About the Venue: Built in 1910 as the Bryant as 42nd Street's first motion picture and vaudeville house. In 1920, the Selwyn brothers rebuilt it as a legit house, the Apollo. From November 1934 to 1937, burlesque was produced, until the Brandt chain took over. By 1938, it was a popular art and foreign movie house. 1979 to 1983 marked a brief return to legit theatre as the ‘New’ Apollo. Later, it held rock concerts. Architectural elements from the building were incorporated into the Ford Center in 1998.
"’Poppy’ is clean and refreshing by comparison with much of the degenerate stuff which nowadays passes for legitimate amusement in our lighter musical shows.” ~ METCALFE, WALL STREET JOURNAL
Tumblr media
“Madge Kennedy Is the Babe Ruth of the stage, after a manner of speaking.” ~ JAMES W. DEAN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During Thanksgiving week, Sunday NY Daily News columnist Sally Joy Brown ran a contest for young people to win tickets to see Poppy, including a backstage visit with Madge Kennedy.
Tumblr media
The event was so successful, Brown ran a second contest.
During the run of the play, Kennedy mentored drama students at Columbia University. They had voted her their favorite actress on Broadway.
Tumblr media
The controversy had caused David Belasco to re-write and re-stage several of his plays to address the NY Attorney General’s concerns.
Tumblr media
At the end of 1923, yet another Madge Kennedy film opened: Three Miles Out.
Tumblr media
On May 31st, Kennedy played her final performance as Poppy. The title role was assumed by chorus member Victoria White.
Tumblr media
With Kennedy’s departure, Fields was elevated to star status, billed above the title. Telegrams of congratulation to Mr. Fields were read from the stage of the Apollo theatre by Will Rogers, who abandoned his "Follies" rehearsals across the street to act as master of ceremonies. With characteristically witty comments, Mr. Rogers read congratulatory messages from Fred Stone, Eddie Cantor. Leon Erroll, Harold Lloyd, Al Jolson, Walter Catlett, Oscar Shaw, Raymond Hitchcock, Buster Keaton, Lee Shubert, Jerome Kern, and several others. Mr. Fields was greeted with a storm of applause when he stepped forward to acknowledge the felicitations.
Poppy ran 346 performances closing on June 28, 1924. The New York run was followed by a touring production.
In 1924 there was a London production of Poppy at the Gaiety Theatre.
Tumblr media
There were two film version, both of which starred Fields as Eustice P. McGargle. The first was Sally of the Sawdust (1925), a silent movie directed by D.W. Griffith and co-starring Carol Dempster as Sally. Griffith had good reason not to use the name or title "Poppy" for this movie. A movie titled Poppy with a character by that name had come out in 1917.
Tumblr media
Atlantic City audiences saw Sally on September 7, 1925 at the Strand Theatre on the Boardwalk.
Tumblr media
The second was Poppy (1936), directed by A. Edward Sutherland. Fields was ill during the 1936 production, and a fairly obvious double was used in several scenes requiring physical exertion.
Tumblr media
The film opened in Atlantic City at the Warner Theatre on the Boardwalk on June 21, 1936.  The Warner (later re-named the Warren) was just seven blocks away from Nixon’s Apollo, where the play began in 1923.
"And if we should ever separate, my little plum, I want to give you just one bit of fatherly advice: 'Never give a sucker an even break!'" ~ W.C. FIELDS as PROFESSOR MCGARGLE.

Super-Sizing the Superfamily: A DC Comics Storybuilding Project
So, on a forum I post on, we’ve been working on a storybuilding project. To wit, we plan to envision a selection of Superman and related comic books, if the Superman family was allowed to be even bigger than the Batman family, with multiple Superboys and Supergirls, as well as various other characters. To this end, we are be using multiple different versions of some characters, as well as occasionally decompositing existing characters.
At the bare minimum, I'd like to come up with a set of Superman Family titles (not everyone gets their own book, of course), and plot out a year of storylines, culminating in a Superman Family Crossover. Ideally we'd go beyond that as well, but given how ambitious that goal is, I'm not holding my breath.
The project has hit a bit of a wall ATM, so I figured now was as good a time as any to post what we’ve got so far on Tumblr. With his permission, I am tagging @davidmann95, the Internet’s Premier Supermanologist, to get his opinion, but anyone is free to comment or make suggestions.
We begin with... The "Core" Super-fam. Note that this is not an exhaustive list of characters appearing in this thing: -Clark (Superman) -Lois -Jon (Superboy Blue?) -Chris (Superboy Red?) -Kon (Kid Cadmus) (decomposite, based on original, Jacket version) -Conner (?) (decomposite, based on later, Geoff Johns/YJ version) -Kara Zor-El I AKA Zara (Supernova) (decomposite Modern Supergirl , based on TV Show version) -Kara Nim-El AKA Nara (Supergirl) (Variation on Silver Age Supergirl)* -Kara In-Ze AKA Iara (Blue Bombshell) (DCAU Supergirl)** -Kara Zor-El II AKA Tara (Miss Metropolis) (decomposite Modern Supergirl, based on "Cheerleader" version)*** -"Cir-El" (Tomorrow Girl) -Mae (Matrix) (I'm gonna say that for our purposes, she managed to come back after being separated from Linda) -Linda (Mighty Maid) (as per the post-Earth-Angel part of PAD's comic, with the Earth-Angel thing being backstory which we will leave vague) -Kristen (Superwoman) -Karen (Power Girl)**** -Mon-El (?) -"Uncle Carl" (decomposite Bizarro. Imperfect clone, somewhat "cured") -Bizarro #1 (decomposite, Imperfect duplicate, lives on Htrae, etc.) -Jimmy -Perry -Lucy -Kenan (New Super-Man) -John Henry (Steel) -Natasha (Steel? Starlight?) -Lana -Krypto -Streaky -Ma and Pa (I've seen good arguments for one or both of them being deceased by the modern-era...but I'm including them anyways) Possible members: -Lori Lemaris -Luma Lynai -Marvel Maid and Marvel Man -Vartox -Strange Visitor -Sally Selwyn -Lyla Ler-Rol -Thara Ak-Var -Alpha Centurion -More I'm not thinking of.
*In the Silver Age, Jor-El had two brothers, his younger brother Zor, Kara's dad, and his twin Nim-El. We are making this Kara daughter of the former rather than the latter, born on Argo City, which survived the destruction of Krypton, named for her presumed dead cousin, sent to Earth when the systems keeping the city alive began to fail. **Keeping mostly the S:TAS backstory, with the caveats that the people of Argos were Kryptonian colonists, not a separate species, and that she's a relative of Zor-El's wife Alura In-Ze, with "Kara" and "In-Ze" being common family names. ***Something her ship encountered on her journey to Earth created a duplicate that took even longer to arrive, and was the subject of the previous Superfam crossover. ****The original "Super Girl", magically created by Jimmy wishing into existence a perfect mate for Superman.
Next, The Superfam books and casts thereof (not distinguishing between main, supporting, and recurring characters) (no villains as of yet. Mostly)
-Action Comics: Anthology title, each issue spotlighting different members of the Super-Fam.
No specific cast.
-Superman: Duh.
Somehow, I don't think we've specifically cast this one.
-Lois Lane: Again, duh. Serious journalism, with occasional Wacky Hijinks.

 Jimmy
Lucy
Gen. Lane
Lex's administrative staff (Mercy, Ms. Tesmacher, the Loisbot, etc.), whom she is “casually bitchy” with
 As-Yet-Unselected-Police-Contact

-Jimmy Olsen: Third verse, same as the first.
Jimmy
The Planet staff
Iara (who he's dating; superspeed makes long =-distance relationships easy)
The New Newsboys (Famous Bobbie included)
Scorn
Ashbury
Misa
-Power Girl: Ditto.
Karen
Atlee
Hiro
Mae
-Cadmus: Again. We're basing this mostly on the bit of Kon's '90s book when he was hanging out on Cadmus, with the caveat that the Hairies moved the Wild Area (and thus the whole damn Project) to a pocket dimension with entrance termini in a number of different locations, including, but not limited to, Metropolis, Honolulu, the Un-Men reservation in Louisiana, and wherever the Justice League of China is headquartered.
Kon

The New Newsboys (Famous Bobbie included)
Dubbilex
Tana
 Roxy
 Serling
 Tekka
 Kenan and the JLC
 Mickey Cannon

-Adventure Comics: Stories about Conner, Iara, and Tara hanging around Smallville; inspired largely by Kon's late '00s title. Back-up feature is stories about Clark's Superboy years.
Conner
Iara
Tara
Lori Luthor
Lena Luthor I

-Planet Comics: About the adventures of the Daily Planet crew in general. Workplace comedy, Clark keeps the glasses on, mostly.

(I'd like to feature more of the various folks who've been shown working for the Planet over the years)

Jennifer
Lynn
Gangbuster (let's face it, most of y'all wouldn't recognize his real name)
Maggie
Turpin
Henderson
Leocadio
-National Comics (alt. title: Supernova and the DEO): Zara's adventures trying to make it on her own in National City, whilst helping Alex and the DEO.
Zara
Tara (commuting from Smallville)
Linda
Mon-El
Alex
Director Bones (standing in for the show’s version of J’onn, though the relationship is *probably* less familial)
Cameron Chase?
Winn
Simone D'Neige (standing in for the show’s version of Cat Grant)
Lena Luthor II (standing in for the show’s version of her aunt; we’re assuming that she stayed aged up after being de-Brainiaced)
Dreamer
-Steel and the Girls of Steel (need a better title): Starring John Henry, Natasha, Cir-El, and Traci 13.
John
Henry
Natasha
“Boris”
Cir-El
Mia (i’m counting Cir-El and her alter ego as separate characters)
Traci 13
The Supermen of America (a team, including Super-Chief and “Iron” Munro, inspired by Superman’s example, that John Henry is training)
-Nightwing and Flamebird. Adventures in the Bottle City of Kandor, which is majority Kryptonian but has a sizable population of other species. Despite the title, the eponymous duo are not the protagonists, but rather an ordinary citizen who’s taken it upon themselves to unravel the mystery of their secret identity (the truth is that an assortment of people take turns at wearing those costumes)
?
-Superman Family. Anthology title, with each issues featuring a team-up between Clark and another member of the Superfam.
No specific cast
There are a few other odds and sods here and there, but that’s most of it, asides from the fact we’ve decided to costume the Supergirls thusly:
-Karen, of course, wears the Power Girl costume. -Cir-El has a distinct costume already. -Linda is rocking the DCSHG look.* -Iara has her S:TAS look.* -I wanna say Nara's wearing one of the Bronze Age-era outfits, but they might be too '70s to really work? -Mae is wearing a somewhat sexier version of the classic look (I'm imagining she's the second-most vavavoom-y of the Supergirls after Karen). -Zara I is wearing the second TV show suit with the pants. -Zara II (Tara?) is wearing the Jim Lee cheerleader outfit. Note: despite both being a miniskirt and bellyshirt, her outfit is notably skimpier than Iara's, with a shorter, lower slung skirt, and a tighter top with...what's the right way of saying there's less of it? This is her deliberately distinguishing herself from her older duplicate's more modest look. *May switch these, IDK.

After graduating Riverrun University, Jaime Lannister and Brienne Tarth find themselves driving to King's Landing together. What starts out as mutual dislike somehow blossoms into friendship. But what happens when their feelings continue to deepen? My take on a Jaime/Brienne When Harry Met Sally Modern AU.
Words: 4214, Chapters: 1/9, Language: English
Fandoms: A Song of Ice and Fire & Related Fandoms, Game of Thrones (TV), A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Categories: F/M
Characters: Jaime Lannister, Brienne of Tarth, Catelyn Tully Stark, Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister, Tywin Lannister, Selwyn Tarth, Margaery Tyrell, Hyle Hunt, Ronnet Connington, Sansa Stark
Relationships: Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth, Tyrion Lannister/Sansa Stark, (unfortunately Jaime/Cersei at first)
Additional Tags: Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Mutual Pining, Slow Burn, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Modern Westeros, flagrantly mixing book and show canon, When Harry Met Sally AU, well it started out that way in my head but I got a little sidetracked, Angst, POV Alternating, Canon-Typical Abelism, Minor Character Death, Introspection, Bickering, Road Trips, Hurt/Comfort, I don't personally ship Tyrion/Sansa, but their pairing made the most sense within the when harry met sally framework, short mention of implied rape in chapter 1, short description of domestic violence in chapter 2, and general instances of Cersei and Twyin being emotionally abusive throught, yeah this is not the romcom you're looking for
