Autumn Offerings
"And the toll for crossing
I'd owe Charon
Would atrophy a half of me
The heart of gold, ah-ooh"
Around Samhain, which I do celebrate to venerate my ancestors and some friends of mine whom I lost too soon, I begin to feel a closeness to my patron and his queen that seems oddly unrelated to the sabbat itself. The energy of the season changing from a summer bursting with life, to the coming winter where death occurs on the topsoil and the weather is bleary summons them to the forefront of my mind often, and I hope that while I know my queen is happy at this time, for her swift return in the spring.

Samhain Masterpost - Spoonie Witch Friendly
Tumblr media
Samhain, Halloween as we know it. Celebrated on October 31st to November 1st (May 1st in the Southern Hemisphere). Samhain is a cross-quarter fire celebration and the halfway point between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice.
Samhain is the 3rd and final fall harvest festival. This day is also known as the Witches New Year.
The veils are believed to be thinned, allowing the dead to return to the earth. Samhain is celebrated in many different cultures around the world. An important holiday to most.

Need some suggestions to celebrate? I got you covered.
High energy celebrations
Cleanse
Do a release ritual
Divination
Connect with ancestors
Carve a jack o’ lantern
Make a besom
Create witches bottle
Visit a graveyard and give your respects (be respectful!)
Low energy celebrations
Leave offering for ancestors
Chat with the folk about family history
Light incense
Burn something you’d like to let go on a piece of paper
No spoon celebrations
Eat pumpkin or any sort of squash
Leaving some of your food aside for the ancestors
Any sort of mischief. Telling a joke or pulling a prank
Remember that it’s okay if you cant do much while you are unwell. That you come first and you simply existing is a blessing.
How you celebrate the holiday does not matter. You can choose to do any activity that feels right. These are only suggestions and remember that you're enough no matter what.

I wanna make a little mechs fic about Lyfrassir and Yule specifically as a... idk therapeutic or cathartic sorta fic? Not sure what term to use. This'll be my second year officially celebrating Yule instead of Christmas? The dramatics of which I'm much more likely to detail in ao3 notes than a Tumblr post (bc what's a better place than ao3 notes) but I'm very excited and wanna project a bunch of feelings and experiences onto the mech fandom's favorite barbie doll. I actually have a little scene between Lyf and Brian written already but I'm kinda out of ideas after that aside from the side-plot of Marius's mission based on Tim's explanation of mistletoe vs the reason Lyf actually has mistletoe. Not sure if anyone's interested in that or if I'll end up posting it but!! I'm ranting here anyway!! If you read this post and do wanna see me make a Yule fic, wanna toss some ideas my way perhaps? :)

One of the things that makes the Samhain candles feel special to me is the herbs I include. Some are here because they’re autumnal and they evoke this season. Some were chosen because of their connection to Celtic faery and Samhain lore. Some because they hold certain divination properties. And others are here because they’re the kinds of things we traditionally offer to our beloved dead and ancestors, like tobacco, coffee, and alcohol. I grow my own rustic tobacco and I make the mead that I use in the herb blend. The coffee is here because my Nanny Carlton loved coffee and it’s my daily offering to her. As we get closer to Samhain, how will you honor your ancestors and kindred spirits? And what offerings will you make? 🖤 #samhain #beloveddead #kindred #ancestors #halloween

location: oz’s- shona & oz’s apartment
starter for: @samhainmade
It had been less than a month since Shona moved in. It was easy enough, whilst Shona didn’t have too many belongings, Oz made sure that she’d receive whatever she needed to make their penthouse feel like a home. It didn’t matter what it was, he was more than willing to oblige. What used to be silent drunken nights were now filled with their laughter. It felt like Oz’s personal life had flipped a complete three sixty. He knew deep down it wasn’t always going to be this easy, but after only a short time of living together he couldn’t imagine living like how he used too. He had endless days with Shona now, and he never wanted them to end. It had been a busy night at the casino for both of them, he figured she had been just as exhausted as he was. Because as soon as his head hit the pillow he was fast asleep. Terrorizing others in his dreams, he had to keep up his reputation somehow. Though he was a light sleeper, feeling Shona stir besides him repeatedly. Which wasn’t like her, at least from what he was aware of. He opened his eyes, his vision slowly coming back into view. It was far too dark to see anything clearly, but he could make up the outline of Shona’s body as he tilted his head towards her. “Hey..” He cooed in raspy voice, as he wrapped his arm around her to pull her closer. It was then he could hear her slightly sniffling, immediately he became much more alert than he had been before. His fingers found her cheeks, they had been wet. She was crying? Oz frowned, his anxiety heightening as he began to wonder if he had done something wrong. “Don’t cry little witch. What’s wrong?” He asked, trying to dry her cheeks with his large palm.

There's an interesting thing where 3/4 of the people that I need to honor during the Hollow's really would just prefer that I either drank whiskey or smoked weed with them. So I'll be doing a lot of that this week.

Samhain shenanigans! Lots of ancestor love today! Lighting candles covered in herbs for the dead, sending off ancestor money offerings, giving delicious food and drink, and burning other herbs and incenses are the main points of Samhain for me, though I do continue this season a little bit into November as well. Give thanks to your ancestors, they’re always watching over you! ❤️❤️❤️

Samhain (Faux) Sourdough
"Bake this for loved ones, bring it to a potluck, or leave it out for offerings. (Makes excellent pizza dough as well.)
2 to 3 sprigs rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) for clarity, transformation, honoring the dead, seeing ghosts, banishing sadness
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup Greek yogurt
1 to 2 teaspoons olive oil
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic for protection
Preheat oven to 350°F (177 degrees Celsius).
Pour olive oil into a custard cup and add garlic, if desired. Stir and set aside.
Add Greek yogurt to a mixing bowl and slowly incorporate self-rising flour until mixed. Kneed another minute until well incorporated.
Roll out dough on a floured working space into a flatbread. Transfer to a baking sheet or stone.
Brush top of the dough with the olive oil. Strip the rosemary leaves from the stem and sprinkle on top of the dough. Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown."
