I could barely find any fanart of Serafina from the Serafina series so I decided to draw some myself!! I tried to make her look like a scrawny child since shes only 12 in the books. I hope i portrayed her well!!

Serafina from Robert Beatty’s Serafina Series?

Ways to approach the poll if the character isn’t a royal:

If you think they’d be from a smaller house, go with the Great House that that smaller house is sworn to (ex: House Manderly —> vote Stark)

They don’t have to be a nobleperson, they can be someone working for the house or being ruled by them. Roles could be a sworn-sword, a septa, a butcher, a blacksmith, or even a lowly peasant.

You can consider the region itself. For example, if you feel the character would be from Dorne, pick House Martell.

You can consider the personality of the character. For example, if your character is all about honor, then consider either House Arryn or House Stark.

Last, but not least, be creative with it! For example, there was a comment I read that the character who was the subject of the poll would be pulling a Littlefinger, so they went with either Lannister or Tyrell as that would be that character’s target houses.

Re-reading Serafina and the Black Cloak because I recently visited the Biltmore and it was all I could think about while I was there

I loved the book so much, and I thought, when this is a technically a kids' geared audience story (protags are 12 years old and I in my early 30's)...how? How do I love this so much? How does the author accomplish this?

I mean I know no reader, what's the quote? No reader worth their salt trots along to a preset timeline...or something? But there IS a very difficult art to be able to accomplish a story that entertains all ages without anyone feeling alienated.

Robert Beatty does SUCH a great job at this. I'm trying to figure out how he does it. The protags process the world around them with that childlike fearlessness, but still make calculated decisions that don't feel too naive.

Robert also gives details that double-feature, which is something I am trying so hard to do myself. Like where he shows Serafina's age where she refuses to eat the grits in her chicken and grits meal, she only wants the chicken. The picky eater thing is a kid move, but later the only chicken preference matches up to what is revealed about her later, being related to a carnivore.

I could go on but this would be a massive essay and

See this cat? This isn’t my cat. It’s a neighbor’s cat (I don’t know which neighbor). I took these photos a few months ago, but randomly I see this cat in my backyard. But I’ve never had the courage to go up to it because stranger danger also works with cats.

Today, I heard my cat S C R E A M I N G, so I went outside to check it out. And what do I see? This cat, sitting a few feet away from mine, pretty chill. And then there’s my cat, hissing, crouched, and growling.

So, I picked up my cat (I call her Sera, short for Serafina from a book series called Serafina), plopped her inside my home, and went back over to the other. Because, y’know, it could be hurt or something.

At first, it darted away because I got too close and approached too fast. The second time, however, I kneeled down about 4 feet away from it and held my hand out. To my surprise, it meowed a few times and then came over and r u b b e d against my hand.

And then it saw a (possibly) injured bird and left. But, yeah.

To sum it up, I pet a neighbor’s cat today and it made me so happy that I immediately told my brothers, but forgot to tell my sis.
