chapter one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lydia sat outside the hearing room in the best outfit she could think of in her morning panic, a plum scoop-neck and black heels, next to the remaining team members who were not currently being interrogated. For some reason, it felt like waiting on the principal to call her into the office to plead her case. No one was talking. They didn’t need to. Lydia could almost read their thoughts. This wasn’t the first time this team had been in some kind of hot water, she had gathered. The BAU was sort of infamous at Quantico. Lydia had heard fragments of stories-- even been the butt of some snide jokes and sideways glances at the news of her transfer. This was the first time, however, that this level of theatrics was at play. They weren’t playing teeball anymore, one look at Strauss’ face could have told her that. It was beyond even her. They were at the mercy of a group of old white men with an ego as old as Methusela.
The door opened, producing a very annoyed looking Spencer who took a seat next to her. She took a breath, knowing what that meant. Silently, she rose and made her way inside.
Lydia knew the committee was relying on her to be some kind of unbiased third party, being new to the team, never having met Emily before her “death,” having absolutely no stakes in this fight whatsoever, like some kind of scab. She could see it in their eyes-- studying her from the end of the room like she was facing God for permission to enter the afterlife. She looked forward to discreetly flipping the script. She sat down in the center seat of a long table, made eye contact with each man sitting in front of her, and waited for the onslaught.
“You were hired four months ago, is that correct Agent Clark?”
She bristled, barely, “Yes, sir, I was,”
“What was the nature of the position?”
“Agent Hotchner hired me to fill the SSA position vacated by Agent Prentiss,”
“What facts of the case were you told?”
“I was told the nature of her death, and the identity of the man responsible,”
“Were you instructed to lend your expertise to the case in any way, by Agent Hotchner or any other members of your team?”
“No, sir, I was not. They needed a full team for the caseload. The BAU has had an abundance of calls since I’ve been employed,”
“We’re well aware of the unit’s popularity these past few months, Agent,”
She decided not to rock the boat by any means, but she knew what was inevitably coming next: some kind of private psychological analysis.
“In your perception of your new team, do they strike you as committed to their jobs and the oath they pledged to uphold?”
“Yes, sir, completely,”
“How did they cope with the loss of Agent Prentiss?”
There it was. “In what way, sir?”
“Did their bereavement cloud their judgement? Did it make them unpredictable in the field?”
“Agents Jareau’s reports detail every case to the letter--”
“We’re not asking Agent Jareau, we’re asking you,”
“I corroborate those reports 100%. There was nothing abnormal or concerning about any of their behaviors. They all suffered a tremendous and unexpected loss, but the tenacity of the BAU has always been admirable. Their resilience and work ethic is their reputation,”
“And do you corroborate these reports? Do you approve of the methods used by your new team to solve this case? All of them?”
The corners of her mouth twitched, ever so slightly at the weight of the question, “I know for a fact that this team had nothing but Declan Doyle’s best interest in mind when we finalized this case. We caught and apprehended a dangerous criminal and saved his son. I fail to see how that’s not a victory,”
The men peered down at her, looking between each other like executioners ready to deal out a sentence. Finally, the middle of the table spoke up.
“That will be all, Agent,”
Lydia rose and walked back through the doors into the view of the team. Her heart was still beating out of her chest and she returned to her body, letting out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. It was over.
Hotch nodded at her and she returned it, his universal sign of a positive outcome. Penelope’s anxious face swam before her next to Morgan’s concern, Reid’s simmering frustration, JJ’s determination, and Rossi’s comforting neutrality. They looked down the hall at the first sign of movement. Emily Prentiss was now talking to one of the court officers and then slipped into the room, closing the door behind her.
Surprisingly, it was Reid who spoke to her, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, fine,” she paused and gestured, “At least you have her back,”
Reid’s eyes flitted over and back again somewhat forlornly, “Do we?”
A few more agonizing minutes went by, Strauss and Emily returned. They all stood up, waiting to see who would speak first. Relief spread over Strauss’ features, and something like shock too.
She looked at each one of them and sighed,“The committee is not willing to support a rogue team. Agent Prentiss convinced them you were not that. They will be watching you closely, so I suggest you play by their rules, ”
“So we’re okay?”
“Suspension has been lifted for everyone,” Strauss made eye contact with each of them.
“Thank you, ma’am,” Hotch broke in, and at his words the tension almost magically lifted tenfold.
“We’d be lucky to have you back if you’re interested,” she turned to Emily, as did the rest of them.
“Can I think about it?”
“Of course,”
She looked around at the group, finally landing on JJ and not wasting a beat, “I’m in,”
The bar was crowded and Hotch had left early. Garcia and JJ had a silent bet on how long he would last, which Garcia had won at 42 minutes. A notable absence was Morgan, who according to Garcia, was usually the first to suggest an outing. Spencer had also left somewhat sullenly. Lydia knew something had been wrong with him since the hearing, since everything. She thought he would’ve been frosty towards Hotch or perhaps even Emily, but studying his interactions had concluded he was the most distant with JJ, which surprised her. She wasn’t sure if JJ, or anyone else had clued into this yet, but she figured they would in time. Garcia was off dancing, JJ was buying another round, which left Emily and Lydia alone for the first time since her return. The few words they had exchanged had been normal so far, but her outsider-ness was becoming a bigger elephant in the room by a second. Emily no doubt wanted the comforting familiarity of her team right now, and Lydia pointedly was not that.
“I bet this wasn’t what you signed up for when you thought about the BAU, huh?” Emily finally asked, breaking the silence.
“I really don’t think anyone could’ve come up with this if they wanted to,” Lydia replied.
Emily smiled. She was a few drinks in and Lydia could see the glassiness of her eyes cutting through the low lit bar, “Well, it shows a lot that you’ve stayed. A lot of what, I’m not sure, but I admire it,” she studied Lydia’s face, “Thanks for all your help at the trial too, you didn’t have to defend us the way you did,”
Lydia wasn’t sure what all Emily knew of her one off with the committee, “We’re a team, I’m with you… all of you,”
Emily’s hand drifted towards hers as an attempt to grab it, but it suddenly stopped. Lydia dismissed it as a mistake-- or wishful thinking for some reason. She eyed her own drink and pushed it away from her.
“I know you’ll be honest with me, because we’ve just met and you’re unbiased. How are they doing-- really?”
Okay, she wanted to do this, here… now, there was no reason to lie, “Morgan took it the hardest, at least outwardly. Penelope and the notion of revenge were the two main reasons he kept showing up. Reid will take his time, but he’ll recover. Hotch has been unyielding, and JJ… has only been back a short time, and her other assignment I gathered was very taxing on her. Rossi’s been the glue. They’re strong, resilient,”
As Lydia was talking, she noticed Emily’s gaze had grown more intense, constant. She suddenly became self aware and trailed off. Emily cocked her head.
“How old are you,”
She was used to these questions. She had always looked younger than she was, and her career path as it turned out didn’t help matters.
“I’m 29, this is my second full year at the FBI,”
“And you’re a doctor?”
“I have a PhD, just the one, I know it’s not as impressive as Reid,”
“No, it is,” Emily looked earnest, “You’re very young. Young, smart, and beautiful, the whole package,”
Lydia knew she was blushing, and hoped the darkness would hide it, “I-- thank you.” How drunk was Emily? How drunk was she? Did Emily like women? Was she hoping Emily liked women? Questions abounded, none could be answered because Emily Prentiss’ eyes were still piercing into Lydia’s very soul.
“I’m sorry,” she kind of laughed and scrubbed her hand over her face, “I’m not usually like this,”
She looked like she wanted to say more to Lydia, hopefully on the same subject, but a clatter on the table shattered the moment. JJ had returned with a round for all of them.
“I have no idea where all these people came from. Somehow the line got longer and I was nowhere closer to getting out of it,”
Lydia smiled at her sympathetically and took one of the drinks, anything to busy her hands and look at something other than the woman next to her.
“Thanks, JJ,”
She stole a glance at Emily and saw it again. She knew she couldn’t be crazy. The way Emily looked at JJ was not something to be ignored. She looked to her to find some sort of calmness in this recent chaos. Lydia had seen it at the office and at the hearing. But JJ was committed, she had a child. Emily had lost her chance, but the beacon was still shining for her. Lydia had realized that.
So maybe they were both a little too drunk, and Lydia was starting to sober up.
She watched them talk, a four year friendship, intense, meaningful, spring back to life like no time had passed… like nothing as world-shifting as a fake death could even begin to change the dynamic. JJ retold some stories, mostly for Lydia’s benefit, about past cases, inside jokes between the team, and she was grateful for it. She enjoyed watching JJ’s eyes sparkle as she reminisced about girls nights with Garcia (“Next time we have one, you’re coming. We’ll all be back together, so I’m sure Pen will plan something crazy,”). Furthermore, she liked seeing Emily smile genuinely for the first time since her return. It was progress.
It was late, later than she wanted it to be, but Hotch had made it clear they were expected to be ready to go the next Monday, and none of them had had much sleep the past three days.
Lydia stood up to go, “Well, ladies, that’s my time. Unfortunately, I think I might pass out if I stay much longer,”
JJ grinned, “Pass out? You’re like 25! You’re going to let us show you up like that?”
“Getting a doctorate ages you like ten years, look it up,” Lydia retorted.
Emily winked at her, “Great, we’ve got two people ready and willing to bring up their degrees at a moments notice,”
“I can’t speak for Reid, but I save it for special occasions, like this one,”
JJ laughed, “Be safe going home, you have a ride don’t you?”
“I actually live a block away. I’ll be alright,”
Emily and JJ exchanged looks, “Are you sure?” Emily asked.
Lydia nodded, “Positively, we’ve done a lot worse, right? Besides, I do have a gun, which Hotch insisted upon,”
JJ acquiesced, “Fair enough, see you monday, Lydia,”
Emily did not seem placated, but Lydia waved at them both and left the bar. The night was colding, flirting with freezing temperatures. She felt pleasantly warm from the alcohol, but pulled her coat tighter around her body. She was starting to regret walking, the joke about passing out started to seem like a reality. The image of making it home to a bed where she could sleep for twelve hours was keeping her going.
Then, a hand on her arm. Lydia whirled around, hand inching towards her waistband.
“Hey! It’s just me,” It was Emily, breathless and throwing up her open palms, “I’m sorry, but I didn’t love the thought of you alone out here, not be a chivelrous dick about it,”
Lydia shook her head, “I could never think of you that way.” She could tell Emily was anxious so she let her have it. They fell into step together. Suddenly it was too silent. Lydia was tired, and didn’t know whether to broach a new topic or circle back to the uncertainty of the previous one. She opted to stare at her shoes and occasionally sneak looks at Emily’s hair in the scattered moonlight. There were light flurries in the air now, blanketing them both.
“Which one’s yours?” Emily asked, gesturing to the buildings up ahead.
“Right here,” Lydia turned the corner and pointed, “Fifth floor, no elevator,”
“God, really?” She made a face and looked at her.
“Yeah, this job was definitely a promotion. Honestly, I kind of like it here anyway… reminds me of my first apartment on my own, a little rough around the edges but that’s okay because you’re independent now and can conquer anything,”
Emily smiled amusedly.
“Of course, that’s a lie, because you’re 18 and have no idea what anything’s like in the world, but the sentiment is there. It’s freeing,” Lydia stopped outside the door, “I’m rambling aren’t I?”
The woman laughed, “I think it’s great, keep going,”
“Well, now I have performance anxiety,” she quipped, “anyway, five floors… you don’t have to go up the whole way,”
“Can I?”
Lydia’s heart stalled in her chest and suddenly her mouth was very dry. She forced a swallow, “If you really want to, I won’t stop you,”
Emily paused, seemingly reasking the question silently.
“By all means, the company’s nice,” she kicked herself mentally. Why did everything sound so pathetic when she said it? Emily followed her past the small lobby and onto the narrow staircase, barely wide enough for two people side by side. Lydia’s foot caught a bad spot on the stair and slipped. Emily grabbed her arm, steadying her.
“Sorry, that’s the broken step. Everyone’s complained about it countless times but we’re pretty sure the management is ignoring us,”
“Sounds like shitty management,”
Lydia shrugged, “Could be worse, I guess. Here we are,” they stopped outside her door. She had a fleeting urge to ask her inside, but that was dumb of her. Emily shoved her hands into her coat pocket.
“I meant what I said back at O’Keefe’s. I’m glad you’re apart of the BAU,”
Lydia wondered if that was the only thing she had truly meant, “I am too,”
“Goodnight, Doctor,” she turned around and retraced their steps out into the night. Lydia’s thoughts were firing on all cylinders. Her increasing fatigue coupled with confusion and replaying the night in her head was achieving nothing but sending her in circles. Emily Prentiss wasn’t making anything easy, and as much as she tried to control it, fractured images of snow-kissed hair and warm brown eyes permeated her mind.
One thing was for sure, she was one of the few people Lydia absolutely should not be feeling this way about.
a well-rehearsed scene, often found plastered all over greyish static-full tv screens in shady motels all over the east coast. soap-opera actors trying to babble their way through the script, but it's a poor example of a thriller & they're not paid enough to make it believable. hence why there is no flirting with danger, no lethal charisma, only flat deliveries. all too similar to the unimpressed man standing in front of her, enumerating rights she gave up on by sitting in this room & idly smiling at the tainted glass behind which she imagines the whole team to be sitting, discussing and watching. like vultures on their branch, waiting for the lamb to fall to its dehydrated death. in the movie the list does not go on & on in the form of an insufferable enumeration, yet in reality ssa aaron hotchner seems very intent on losing precious time by standing there, a small folder in his hands. his monotone voice only seems to falter (for a millisecond) when she leans slightly forward, perhaps because the girl's grin grows wilder. and that, of course, was not the desired effect. of course, ssa hotchner presence was meant to insufflate fear in her poor corpse, like an inflated doll. the problem with that scenario, though, is that they have nothing. if the fbi had enough to keep her from walking away freely, the scene would not be happening in an interrogation room but outside. camera, quick! focus on the police car driving away! in the backseat, hot breath on the glass window so that one finger can trace a little shaky heart in the condensation.
the issue with ishtar is that she always knows which script most people are playing, and she takes perverse pleasure in ruining it for everyone involved. hence the smile, how she is man-spreading on the metallic chair like she has power over whatever is happening there. not an ounce of fear in those baby blue eyes. fear has another name & she cut it out of her life with her teeth. kissed her goodbye with bloody lips. fear won't rise from the dead, and she certainly does not wear a fbi vest.
the silence stretches unevenly, until hotchner decides to simply leave the room. there is something amusing about it, of course, and if she were interested in the proceedings she would most certainly point out, outloud, his uneven stride (meaning: he got hurt not too long ago. or he is not as powerful and enigmatic as he thinks himself to be. or, who hurt ya, hotch? who lived to tell the tale, uh?) she would map out his body for places to strike, the way an artist watches a canva for the drawing to reveal itself to them. she would taunt him, one small fact at a time, until he is sitting back in that goddamn chair and staring down her soul, desperate to understand what makes her tick. sadly, ssa aaron hotchner is not ishtar's snack for the night & so she lets him go. she waves a little at him, saying goodbye in the most aggravating way, before going back to her initial position : before he stopped monologuing about the law & her supposed rights, she was already staring at the black tainted glass, a teasing smile upon cherry-pink lips.
"agent @suarcz", she singsongs once he has vacuated the room for too long, "you gonna watch all night? or yer plannin on joinin'?" a moment, just one, before her smile turns devilish and she's spreading her legs just a little wilder, "cause if yer just fixin' to watch, i can give ya a good show. free of charge."
A Real Social Security Office Gave Me A Flyer With A Scam Phone Number On It
Scammers have Infiltrated a Social Security Administration Building in New York, Imperiling Your Personal Information.
— Shawn Musgrave | March 17, 2024 | The Intercept
Tumblr media
A flyer handed out at the Harlem office of the Social Security Administration in late February. The number printed for the Manhattan office was actually for a scam line. Photo: Shawn Musgrave/The Intercept
“We Need To Let You Know You Have Been Selected For $100 in Rewards.”
It was a cheery automated message, not what I expected when I called the number for the Social Security Administration’s Primary office in Manhattan. The message went on: “Simply press 1 now to be connected to a live agent and claim your gift today.”
I double-checked the number, which a Social Security employee had just given me at the agency’s local office in Harlem in late February. I needed to replace a lost card, which was a service only offered at certain locations, the agent told me. He slid me a flyer and circled the contact information for the office in the Financial District in Manhattan.
“You can call this number to try making an appointment,” the agent told me.
“There are a ton of scams that use government agencies. But nothing like this.”
Still sitting in the lobby of the Harlem building, I dialed the number a couple more times, and each time reached a different grifter: I was eligible for another $100 gift card to Walmart, then help getting “free insurance.” I just had to hand over my name and address, to “confirm you’re eligible,” one scammer said. These are prototypical phone scam scripts.
In a recent experimental study, researchers posing as employees of a fictious government agency convinced more than 16 percent of older adult participants to hand over personal information, including their Social Security numbers. In another experiment, with college students, more than a third of participants gave out personally identifying information to scammers.
Highly unusual about the flyer in my hands, however, was that a very real government agency had given it to me.
“There are a ton of scams that use government agencies,” said Kathy Stokes, director of fraud prevention at the AARP’s Fraud Watch Network, such as “pretending to be the SSA and saying there’s a problem with your number or that your card has been suspended. But nothing like this.”
“I find that very concerning,” Stokes told The Intercept. “I can’t imagine how that would happen other than that someone on the inside being involved in it.”
When I brought the flyer back into the Harlem office that day, the same window agent called the number with me on speakerphone. When an automated message about $100 gift cards began to play, his eyes widened with confusion and he quickly hung up. “I need to tell a manager about this,” he said.
“I Can’t Imagine How That Would Happen Other Than That Someone On The Inside Being Involved In It.”
Reached for this story, Social Security employees at the Harlem office did not answer detailed questions about how this version of the flyer came into existence. “We were made aware” of the scam number on the flyer, one ticket agent said, “and that’s why we stopped giving those out.”
On closer inspection, the scam phone number was off by a single digit from the real direct line to the Manhattan Social Security office, and the phone numbers for other offices were legitimate. Stokes noted that the scam flyer had some hallmarks of amateurish doctoring, like inconsistent formatting and fonts. (I found pictures of similar documents posted to nongovernment websites — including Yelp and personal blog posts about the Social Security process — which the posters claimed were from other Social Security offices in the NYC area. Unlike the scam flyer, none of these versions included the phone numbers for individual offices.)
“This looks like some guy made this in the FedEx down the street and somehow got this in the pile of things to be given out,” Stokes said, instead of more a “sophisticated” scheme.
The scammers on the other end of the line were “pretty unsophisticated” too, noted Adam Doupé, a professor at Arizona State University who studies phone scams, after I showed him the flyer and he called the number himself.
“I wonder if the scammers themselves actually know what they have,” he said. “Imagine you are a scammer and realize that your number is printed on an official government document. How would you make the most money from this opportunity?”
Unable to let it go, I called the scam line several more times from different phone numbers to see what the scammers were after. Above all, they wanted my full name and address, which can be all a fraudster needs to pull off a change-of-address scam.
Only one scammer pretended to work at the Social Security Administration and said they could help me get a replacement card. They asked for my full name and address, but not my Social Security number.
A few scammers offered $100 in various forms as pretext to hand over my info. A couple said I could have a free “medical alert device,” and another claimed to offer “ID protection services.” Only one asked for a credit card number in addition to my address, on the pretext that it was needed to “activate” a gift card.
Amateur or not, this scam number still managed to sneak into a pile of handouts for at least one busy Social Security office in New York City. The Social Security inspector general’s office, which investigates phone scams, is looking into how this happened, according to Rebecca Rose, a press officer for the inspector general. But Rose would not give details about the inquiry, including whether the agency knows how long this version of the handout was given out or if other offices beside Harlem were also affected.
The inspector general’s office was unaware of prior instances of scam flyers at government offices. Instead, “the most common technique criminals use regarding fake numbers is to spoof an SSA number or caller ID, so that it appears the call is coming from SSA,” Rose said.
Reached via the actual phone number for the Manhattan office, a Social Security employee, who did not give a name, said numerous people had called about the scam number. “We’re trying to figure out who created this flyer.”
hihi! so here’s a tiny preview of an emily fic i’m currently working on! i have no idea when it’ll be finished or even close to being finished but i just wanted to post it on here for some serotonin and motivation! also, huge thank you’s to @sadgirlml , @lcvingprentjss and @fightingdragonswithreid for looking over the preview and freaking out w me a lil 🥲♥️ love u all xoxo! enjoy and lemme know what you think <3
“Emily,” Your voice sounded so frail. It was the vocal equivalent of dipping your toe cautiously into bathwater. You were testing it, making sure that you were capable of saying more than just Emily and not rip a vocal cord in the process. “Please just… just wait for one second.”
And then you looked at her.
You opened your eyes and looked at her. You two were so close. So achingly, traitorously close. You couldn’t remember the last time you’d ever held anyone like this. She was looking right back at you. Your hand on her cheek and her brown eyes wide. Her skin was still wet, your whole body slick with adrenaline and rain– your thumb trailed a pattern across her cheekbone. She tensed very slightly but just continued to stare at you, lips slightly parted.
When she didn’t move, you felt your heart skip a beat. You inhaled deeply, studying the emotion at the back of her eyes as you were infected by her perfume, every single cell, every single—
She wasn’t the sort of person that could wait, you knew that. Emily always had to be moving, she always had to be doing something— saying something— working— overstimulating her brain to the point of complete and total destruction— but this, here, all she did was exist in the palm of your hand.
“Please just…” Fuck, these words weren’t scripted. There was no script, all you had was the lump in the back of your throat and this slight ringing in your ear as if the space between you two had truly detonated and you were just trying to choke your way through the ashes. “I know you don't want to... but please, for me, just take a second to…”
To what?
What about omega Spencer courting alpha Hotch? Like he’d be all shy about it I think, but he can tell Hotch is interested in him but that the alpha wouldn’t initiate anything for fear of pressuring his subordinate into a relationship. So despite it usually being the alpha who begins a courtship, Reid decides to flip the script and begins courting Hotch. Bringing him small, useful gifts, showing him how good and submissive he can be (a lot of head tilting to expose his neck and deferring to Hotch <but not so much that he loses his personality, esp during cases where it’s important for him to speak his mind> where possible). I can just see them out as a team and they’re all a little buzzed and Hotch is a very physically affectionate person but he always restrains himself but now with Reid courting him he can’t help himself and it doesn’t hurt that Reid is encouraging his touch, letting Hotch move him however he pleases and purring softly in response and also letting Hotch order for him and the team sees it all and realizes it won’t be long before the two are mated.
(One of my super old asks I’m so sorry it took forever to post it)
I freaking love this. It would work so well for them too, especially since Reid has never been one to do things the “normal” way. He’s someone who, once he puts his mind to something, he goes for it. And if he sees that Hotch definitely wants him too, then he’ll start the courting process. He’d probably be a little shy about it (again, it’s not really heard of for Omega’s to court Alphas, so there isn’t really a book with instructions on how to go about it).
But once Hotch catches on, he can’t help but feel… pleased. Happy. This little Omega thinks he’s worthy to be his mate. And it thrills him; maybe even inflates his ego a little.
So it’s not long before Aaron is finally courting in return, proving how good of an Alpha he will be for Spencer.
Had a lot of Lila Archer thoughts the other day and figured I'd put them down here. Can be read as platonic friendship or pre-relationship with Reid
After the events of the S1E18 Lila and Reid stay in touch and begin emailing back and forth. It's tentative and awkward at first but they find out they have more in common than you'd expect
They send book recommendations back and forth most of the time because they are both in jobs that have a lot of downtime between cases/castings
Lila is a big history buff and loves that she can talk to Reid about it and he won't treat her like she's dumb because she's an actress or blonde or pretty
Reid asks her all the questions about dating or making friends or even just what people mean when they say or do X and she doesn't tease him about not knowing it already because she gets being out of your depth
She likes his long tangents about stuff in their emails because she always learns something new from it
He likes her gossip about costars and set drama and fighting script writers etc because it's something important to her but also low risk compared to his job and he can give her advice on handling a situation
She finally starts sending him pictures from magazines and fashion shoots with large capitals in the subject lines that he needs to start dressing better because "Spencer honey you're a beautiful man but you do yourself no favors with those outfits". She knows he just wants to be taken seriously at his job but she also knows the impact of a good wardrobe and the right hairstyle
He gets more confident in himself now that he's looking better and feeling more like he can handle himself- no longer the newbie at the BAU
She's got hostage negotiation skills courtesy of her FBI buddy and puts them to good use getting herself better contracts and working the Hollywood system to avoid the sleazebags as much as possible
Neither of them mention staying in touch to others because Reid doesn't want to deal with the (he thinks) inevitable surprise at his being friends with a beautiful popular actress; Lila knows what a rare find he is and doesn't want anyone else getting their hands on someone she feels is one of her only true friends
She knows he will never assume their friendship is a way to sleep with her, even though she thinks she would very much like to
He knows she won't cut him off or make him feel out of place for talking about obscure facts or not understanding social cues, or put him down for being inexperienced
They just keep regularly emailing and sharing thoughts back and forth, texting each other as they get closer and want to keep in touch even when too busy to write out a long message. It's unusual and not a relationship anyone would probably guess exists but it's something special for the both of them.
(she's never forgiven him for getting her hooked on Dr Who)
Tagging my CM fellows @ssa-noa @ssa-natalya-reid @ssa-sarahsunshine @katytheinspiredworkaholic @tobias-hankel @dralexreid hope I didn't miss anybody! Probably did
You were rehearsing your lines before you had to go on set for the day. You had to admit you sucked at memorizing lines, so there were a lot of blooper reals of you stumbling over your words. You hadn’t even been part of the Criminal Minds cast for a whole year yet. Good thing the cast and crew understood how hard it was to memorize masses of technical dialogue.
Your character was named Bianca Johnson, an SSA with a background in technology. She was basically Garcia, but could kick ass instead of petting cute animals. A lot of your lines were heavy technical geek talk, which was hard to say in a scene, let alone the whole episode. Whenever you messed up you’d joked around and said Shemar’s biceps were distracting you from actually getting your lines right.
Your favourite scenes were with Matthew though. He was such a great actor and hilarious as well. When you first introduced yourself to him he told you he thought you were such a hilarious comedian. One of his favourites actually. You told him your greatest joke of all time was landing the role of such a smart character when you only had two functioning brain cells. He let out a hardy laugh before agreeing with you by saying he also had barely functioning brain cells.
Everyone was full of the same excited energy when they met you. It was like having a family gathering every time you were on set. AJ was the sweetest, coolest person you’ve ever met, Shemar was charming, Paget was completely down to earth and Kirsten was such a character. Matthew was the standout cast member for you though. His portrayal of Dr. Spencer Reid was amazing to watch on T.V., but was even more amazing to watch in real life.
He would just spur out lines on lines of facts without messing up once. When he did though it was funny and adorable. You’d try to cover your laugh every time, but he would automatically turn to look at you with a goofy smile. Your laugh would escape immediately and then everyone else would join along.
You looked up from your script as you heard two loud bangs on your door. You looked at the time on your phone and saw it was already 8:55 a.m.
“Y/N, set in five,” you heard the producer yell.
“I’m surprised you’re here early today, Jeff,” you joked.
You heard him laugh. “If Shemar can be early on set anything’s possible, right?”
You gasped. “Shemar’s on set before I am? I have to see this.”
You got up from your chair and rushed towards the door to leave for set. Before you left, you went back to your mirror. You fluffed up your hair and adjusted your breasts. You wanted to make sure you were presentable as possible. For the camera, of course.
As you walked on set you were greeted with a welcoming hug from AJ. She literally gave the most mom-like hugs ever. It was comparable to eating cookies from the cookie jar.
“Happy wrap day,” she said as she let you go.
“I can’t believe we’re wrapping the season already. I feel as if we’ve only been filming for a week,” you said.
“I know, time flies around here. One second you’re in season one and then boom you’re in season 15,” she said.
“If I can look flawlessly good throughout 15 seasons like you I think I can get used to this job.”
She giggled and playfully rolled your eyes. “Are you kidding me? You always look so great. Trust me, a little someone keeps talking about how great you are.”
You looked at her curiously. If she was talking about who you thought she was talking about than you were ecstatic. Shemar, her and some crew members had told you when you first joined that Matthew was a huge fan of yours. Had talked about you quite a few times during the downtime on set.
“More Matthew gossip? I’m in,” you heard Shemar say from behind you.
You turned around and smiled at him. “Well, well, when Jeff said you were early on set I didn’t believe it, but now that I see it with my own eyes I still can’t believe it.”
He chuckled. “Well, baby, here I am in the flesh. If it’s opposite day maybe you’ll have a flawless run with your lines.”
“Good one. Maybe we should trade characters so I can look hot and kick down doors while you talk nerdy to me.”
“You don’t have to kick down doors in your case to look hot, Y/N. I think a certain someone thinks you’re pretty hot as is.”
You gave him a suspicious stare before looking back at AJ. She smiled and looked around the set. You folded your arms as you were waiting for further details to be spilled. They both remained quiet as you stood there waiting. Good thing your attention was soon shifted towards Matthew when you saw him walk on set. You unfolded your arms and softened your face up as you saw how good he looked.
“I guess this is our cue to go, AJ,” Shemar chuckled.
“I agree. See you in the bullpen, Y/N,” AJ said before she left with Shemar.
“Yeah,” you faintly said as you stared at Matthew.
He hadn’t noticed you. He seemed to be looking for someone though as his head continuously darted around the room. When he finally turned your way, his face instantly lit up. He lightly jogged towards you with a big smile on his face. It was as if he was looking for you.
“Hey, Y/N. Happy wrap day,” he said before embracing you in a hug.
You hugged him back. “Happy wrap day, Matt. What adventures are you going to get up to after we wrap?”
“Well, that’s kinda why I was looking for you. I was going to ask you that same exact question.”
“I don’t have anything booked until later next month, so I’m going to be relaxing mostly. Why what’s up?”
“Well, remember when we went to that Arcade Fire concert a few months ago?”
You smiled and nodded. “If you mean the best experience of my life than yes.”
He chuckled. “I’m glad you liked it. Vegas always holds the Life Is Beautiful Music and Art Festival and I was wondering if you were free to go.”
You felt your heart pumping with delight at him inviting you to go to his hometown. The last few months of your friendship were situated strictly in California. You had never really explored Vegas outside of a few shows at hotels and theatres on the strip.
“You wanna take me on a Vegas adventure?” You asked.
“Something like that.”
Before you could say your answer, the set bell rang. Sometimes that stupid bell could be so annoying, especially when you had a moment like this with Matthew. You don’t think there had ever been a more intimate moment between you two.
He smiled. “Think about it.”
As he started to walk off towards the bullpen set, you ran up to him to hug him from behind. He was caught off guard by your hug, but grabbed your hands that clung in front of him. You could say it was the first time you two had held hands.
“I’d love to go.”
“Awesome.”
—————
Going to Vegas with Matthew was such a different experience than anything you had ever done before. Everywhere he took you felt as if it were a new chapter in a life you’ve never lived. You always found Vegas cliche in its gimmicks and exaggerated neon lights. However, Matthew made it seem as if it were a faraway land yet to be discovered.
He showed you to little places outside of the flashy hotels and bright neon lights that filled the strip. You two spent a lot of time at ranches nearby. You told him since the first day you two met how much you loved animals, so going to those ranches was a dream come true.
What you weren’t expecting though was going to the ranch his mother owned. When you two were driving there, you felt your heart beating fast. You had never met his mother before but you knew he was a big mama’s boy. Even with all the nerves running through your body, you felt honoured to be meeting his mother. You didn’t even know whether to consider this whole trip a big first date or what, but it was something you weren’t expecting to happen.
You had a feeling Matthew had a crush on you for a while and the feeling had always been mutual. Guess the both of you had been crushing on each other through a screen for all these years. To be together in that moment was borderline unreal and probably long overdue.
“We’re here,” he said as he pulled up to the ranch.
You looked around the area. It was massive. Just a stretch of land with no buildings in sight. It was beautiful. You looked at Matthew with a huge contagious smile. He couldn’t help smiling back.
“Your mom knows beauty,” you said.
He laughed. “Yeah, I guess she does.”
“I mean if she created you she definitely knows what beauty is.”
He grabbed your hand and squeezed it. It was his fifteenth time holding your hand. Not like you were counting or anything. You blushed as he moved your hand closer to his lips and kissed it twice.
“I’m glad you came, Y/N. I’ve been meaning to ask you on a date for the longest time, but I couldn’t think of the perfect date to take you on,” he confessed.
“Matthew, you literally could have taken me to 7/11 for a shitty cup of coffee and I would have had the time of my life,” you said.
He laughed. “Well, even though 7/11’s cool, I thought you might like a trip to Vegas and concert better.”
“I have to say this is probably one of my favourite first dates ever. I just feel as if it’s missing a little je ne sais quoi.”
“A little je ne sais quoi you say.”
You then saw him let go of your hand and reach for the side of your neck. He brought you in closer as his face moved closer to yours. You hated dramatics, so you rushed in and embraced him with an enormous kiss. You grabbed his face to deepen the kiss. You had never been so excited to kiss anyone in your entire life. The way he kissed you was just different.
You two pulled apart from the kiss before anything went any further. You knew you were satisfied with that kiss but the way Matthew beamed made you believe he was even more satisfied. You covered your face with your hand as you couldn’t stop smiling to yourself.
“I didn’t mean to attack you like that,” you joked.
He chuckled. “No, no, it was great. Maybe we could continue this after we go see my mom.”
You smiled ear-to-ear. “I couldn’t dream of anything better.”
The two of you got out of the car to go greet his mom as she walked out to where he had parked his car. Her smile was just as magnetic as his. You were automatically drawn into her. So much so you found yourself approaching her ready to give her the biggest hug ever. She wasn’t shy to embrace you with big, open arms. It felt as if you were already apart of his family.
————
Back in your trailer to film another season of Criminal Minds and you thought you could get better at memorizing your lines. You didn’t. You swore to yourself you would get better over the summer break, but that plan went out the window as soon as Vegas happened. Matthew had turned what was supposed to be a mundane summer into a long-lasting experience. A long-lasting experience with a lot of making out and wandering hands.
You looked at your watch and saw you had a few minutes to kill before you had to go on set. You tossed your script aside and reached for your phone. The lines could wait a minute or several as you indulged in looking through Twitter.
You scrolled down your timeline, liking and retweeting a few things that caught your eye. One thing caught your eye in particular though. It was from TMZ out of all gossip media showing pictures of you and Matthew holding hands and kissing just a few days ago when you two went to the beach. They must have been hidden well because you knew for a fact no one was around the area you two set up.
Your shock was interrupted when a few knocks were made at your door. You put down your phone and picked up your script to pretend you were still trying to memorize your line. You knew if it was Jeff coming in he’d much rather see you trying to memorize your lines than scrolling through Twitter.
“Come in,” you said.
You saw Matthew come in with a sheepish smile on. You looked at him strange as you had never seen him seem so shy. Then you saw a magazine in his hand. You could only guess what it was. He held up the magazine, so you could see it. Right on the front cover was a picture of you on top of Matthew making out with him on the beach.
You smiled. “At least People Magazine finally put some eye candy on the front page.”
“I didn’t even know they were allowed to publish pictures of soft porn,” he chuckled as he handed you the magazine.
You laughed. “In this day and age anything’s possible.”
“Anything huh?”
He took your hand to take you out of your seat. You gladly got up as you tossed the script and magazine on your vanity. He pulled you in close as his hands moved from your hands to your waist. If this was his way of proposing a quickie in your trailer, you weren’t about to turn him down.
“If anything’s possible, how about we make it official?” He asked.
You would have screamed out of delight, but you were worried he might take it back if you did. You did the next best thing that had come to mind and grabbed his face, so you could kiss him. He wrapped his arms around your waist and embraced the kiss even further. The only reason you two broke apart was because you could hear the director calling everyone to set.
“I guess we should go before this ends up being our last season,” you said as you let go of him.
“I think it might be your last season if you can’t remember those lines,” he joked.
You laughed. “If I can still have you at the end of the day I’d be okay with that. Besides, I think Vegas might have an opening for me.”
I didn't plan on coming back. It's been 4+ years since I last posted 'my final post'. I even forgot my password and the email I signed in with. I didn't go back and read all 100+ posts but pretty sure I never mentioned being molested. It was the reason for this account.
A year before a conversation with a pastor friend who's straight about grace and sexuality triggered the memory of being molested at 16. I had taken a bus from Jersey to Ann Arbor to check out Michigan for college. While there at night I hitchhiked and the guy molested me. I froze when I should've fought back or fled. Instead I sat there staring at the blank brick wall in an empty parking lot. That's the memory that came flooding back, along with the smell of his cologne and the sounds as he tried to arouse me without success. I still only remember his face in shadows. It was my first sexual experience. Before that I don't remember being attracted to guys and had had a girlfriend for a year but she broke up with me before we had sex.
I don't remember much after that later that night, or the next day or the bus ride back to Jersey. By the time I got back, I had successfully buried it and never told anyone, I'm guessing cause of lack of courage and a lotta shame and guilt. I should've told someone cause something similar happened catching a ride with a stranger a few months later in Jersey. It went badly too, and when I got to college almost all my sexual experiences happened with another guy in a car. I don't remember ever thinking about what happened in Michigan again till my conversation with my pastor friend triggered the memory. I never told him till a couple years ago.
I tried to process remembering on my own but that went badly. After reliving it for months, I shared with some friends who helped me to see it wasn't my fault. These posts here were my attenpt to process the emotions triggered by the memory. I guess I should've shared it then but it was too raw.
I've lived with same sex attractions since college. I never put this into conscious words or thought, but being naked with another guy has represented intimacy, and another guy being aroused has meant being the most vulnerable. But I hated doing anything with another guy and haven't since getting out of college. Ever since I've tried to live with same sex attractions and understand things thru the lens of Christianity, and what it is to be a Christian and what it is to be a guy. It's been a rough journey at times, probably made harder trying to work it out on my own. I've come to realize since last posting here that my ideas about intimacy and sex are screwed up.
It's helped remembering Michigan, what has always been an inward hunger to get it right being a guy with other guys now just seems blind. It's been the appeal of porn since I can't bring myself to act out with another guy since following Jesus. Two guys being vulnerable and being guys getting it right. It's a lie, it's just guys following a script, it's not intimacy, it never was. But it's been a battle dealing with sexualizing false ideas of intimacy for so long. Truth helps. Realizing it's not intimacy empties its appeal, but it's a battle.
All this may seem crazy and sinful, but dealing with it has been maybe the most significant factor in my life in finding what is real in Christianity. There's a living reality in all the things that are taught as doctrine: heart and soul, spirit and flesh; old self and new self. What it is to believe into Christ and be in Christ. A living faith as passionate love of God's truth. The hunger for the reality of these things as living has been a constant companion on the journey dealing with same sex attraction.
The memory of being molested is no longer a prison of shame and guilt but I have been hesitant to share this. There's a line of thought that ssa comes from being abused or from dysfunctional families, and that's not true for the majority of guys. Most of the side b guys I know remember having same sex attractions from a young age, for them the attractions are organic to growing up. For me, they started in college, and I don't want my story to diminish theirs'.
What's weird coming back on Tumblr is a lotta the Side B guys I knew before are no longer here. Matter of fact, doing a quick search, it seems like most of the Side Bs I've found are women. Props to you ladies. If you're Side B, especially guys, feel free to hit me up. I've found it can be super encouraging talking with other Side Bs. It's a hard enough journey, made harder walking it alone.
*Sept. 2017. Filming Bohemian Rhapsody*
I almost couldn't believe it myself. I mean I knew that the boys were planning on a film about themselves and that it was taking them almost 10 years just to get it off the ground. But now after multiple rewrites of the script and better casting, the film was ready to get off the ground.
"So you're absolutely sure I can stop by whenever I feel like it? No matter how many times?" I spoke into my I-phone.
'Absolutely love, just as long as you don't spill any secrets.'
"Please Bri, when have I ever revealed anything to anyone about you guys?"
'Well there was the time—'
"That was a fluck and you know it!" I snapped.
'I'm kidding love, you've never spilled any secrets. You've gotten better at lying lately.' Brian chuckled.
"Well when you say it like that it makes me feel guilty."
'As it should love. So when can we expect you?'
"I'll try to get there before the filming starts, so I may end up going to bed now so that way I can get on the road early enough to beat traffic."
'I know Rog is looking forward to seeing you again.'
"I just did the summer tour with you guys, how could he already miss me?"
'It's a mystery to all of us, but he is your father after all.'
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay well I'll see you tomorrow Bri."
'See you then (y/n). sweet dreams and drive safe tomorrow.'
"Will do. Love you."
'Love you too poppet.' I then hung up and couldn't help but grin.
"You still going over to see them film tomorrow?" I turned and low and behold after a long day's shift there was my husband coming in from his police work.
"Well, well, well, look what the cat threw up." I teased.
"Ha-ha you're hilarious my love." He said as he undid his tie and unbuttoned his short. "So the film's finally taking off the ground?"
"Yep, and they finally found a better Freddie Mercury."
"Yeah cause I remember when you called and told me about Sacha Baron Cohen."
"I just couldn't stand the fact that he was wanting to expose the dark side of Freddie. I mean yeah he had the parties, and the drugs, the sex, but that's all what Rock and rollers did back in those days. Plus that's all he seemed to care about. The scandal that came with Freddie's name, nothing about the music. I'm only just glad Bri sided with me on it." I ranted as Jack came up after taking his shirt and undoing his pants and began to rub my shoulders.
"I know love. You're as protective of this project as Brian and Roger are. So do you know who exactly they got to play Freddie this time?"
"No, but I'll find out tomorrow."
"Okay well, my team's got a heavy lead on the case so I won't really be available tomorrow."
"I understand. Just—promise me you'll be careful my love. I haven't forgotten that one killer that shot you in the line of duty."
"I survived didn't I? Plus now we both have a bullet story to share." He leaned his forehead against mine.
"Not funny Jack." I muttered.
"I know. C'mon let's get some sleep. We both have got a long day ahead of us tomorrow." I nodded and then we both got into bed and we fell asleep.
Early the next morning I was on my way over to the set driving in my own car without a driver. As I approached the set gate of course I was stopped by security.
"Badge and proof of visitation ma'am." I handed him the badge that Roger had sent in for me and some documentation that I needed to show him saying that I was not only visiting but a consultant for the movie to help the actors get to know the true Queen. "Everything checks out Mrs. Kline, here you go and have a good day."
"You too uhh—Marvin." I read his nametag before putting my VIP badge around my neck as the gate opened and I drove on inside.
After about 10 minutes I finally was able to find a parking space. I got out of the car and locked it up before walking towards the set. I was told by Brian that the actors had been prepping for the biggest scene they were going to film, the Live Aid sequence.
When I came around and actually stepped up onto the stage, I was blown away and taken back to the summer of 1985. Jesus they—the production got every single detail down to the paint chippings. The rigged lights that Queen had the day they performed, Roger's kit and the grand piano with Freddie's Pepsi cups filled with beer.
"Oh my god. Jack if only you were here to see this." I muttered to myself. It was then I saw Brian talking to someone but—wait did he? Did he seriously dye his hair back to its original dark curls? I walked up to him but waited till he was done talking to some of the producers. Once he was I tapped his shoulder and he turned around and—oh wow I just....wow.
I don't know whether this is a prank or time travel does exist but I swear I'm literally looking at Brian the day I had met him.
"Okay it's official. I think I have finally cracked." I said as I placed my hand over my forehead.
"I'm sorry ma'am do you need to sit down or can I get you a cup of water?" Oh god he even sounds like Brian.
"Ahhh seems you two have already met. And here I thought I could surprise you." I turned and there was—Brian? My Brian with the grey curls now. Wait what!? What is going on here!?
"What the f—"
"Ah, ah language young lady!" Brian scolded.
"You must be the Rock Angel (Y/n) Kline, Brian and Roger have told us a lot about you. Pardon me, Gwilym Lee." He said as he extended his hand to me. I shook it and said in awe.
"Ahhhh, now I see it. Sorry Gwilym dear, never did I think I'd see two Brian's at once. I swear to god you look—exactly like Brian when I met him."
"Anita said the exact same thing. Cheeky woman was even trying to flirt with him." Brian said as he pouted towards the end..
"No she didn't." I gawked.
"I'm afraid it's true." Gwilym said with a blush. I shook my head softly laughing.
"Oh that woman I tell you what."
"Well I can tell you one thing I know a certain someone of the cast who will flip out once he sees you." said Gwilym.
"And just who might that be?" I asked him.
"The young lad whose playing Deacy, Joe Mazzello."
"Kept ranting on and on about your Live Aid performance and how you and Deacy used to interact with each other in your performances together."
"Ahh yes. Me and my dear brother mine." I sighed with a solemn smile.
"I—I'm sorry I-I-I didn't mean to......"
"No, no Gwilym it's fine. While sometimes I do wish he could still be around, I completely understand why he chose to leave the band. Hell without Brian and Rog I—I don't even want to think what I would've done after Freddie died." I soon brushed my sorrows away and said, "Now come here Gwilym I want to get a closer look at you." he came up to me and we stood face to face of each other.
I placed my hands on his shoulders and looked him up and down before cupping each side of his face gently.
"God they chose right for my Brian. I swear, it's like Gwilym is your long lost son Bri." I said as my eyes turned toward Brian.
"I'm beginning to think you might be right." Joked Brian. I stepped back from Gwilym and said to him.
"I can't wait to see the full Live Aid recreation with you all in full costume."
"I hope we do you proud Mrs. Kline."
"First of all, call me (y/n). Secondly, I'm already proud. From what I've heard from Brian and Roger, I have no doubt in my mind that we've entrusted the right group of actors with Freddie's and Queen's upbringing tale to absolute rock gods."
"You flatter us too much (y/n)." Brian gushed.
"Only because you old fossils deserve it." I teased as I stuck my tongue out at him to which Brian did his little eyebrow quirk at me. I giggled softly and continued. "Well before filming starts, I'm gonna continue to look around the set. I'm told the lower decks where all the performers were settled in are just like how they were when we were there. Ciao Brians'." I walked away from them with a wave of my hand.
After exploring more of the set design and going down memory lane it was then I came across another look-a-like. Holding the famed natural Fender precision Bass guitar and wearing that god awful tacky shirt that I secretly wished I had told him not to wear, and having the iconic mushroom fluffy hair was the actor who was playing Deacy, Joe Mazzello.
One of the hair designers was fluffing up the wig to make sure it was up to Deacy's standard. And god just like with Gwilym, Joe was practically identical to Deacy.
It was just like seeing Deacy again back when he was happy and content with where Queen was at, just before finding out about Freddie's illness (which I had found out from Spike several years ago that Deacy had actually known since the last tour Queen ever did with Freddie).
I smiled softly as I watched him get ready for the camera. His wide smile reminded me so much of Deacy's. Slowly I walked up towards him and as the hairdresser looked him over Joe asked.
"So how does it look?"
"I think you look terrific." I said.
"Wait who said—OH MY GOD!!!" he screamed as he turned around and saw me. Like all usual fanboys, he jumped back, his mouth was gaped and his eyes were wide.
"Close your mouth please Joe dear we are not a codfish." His mouth immediately closed.
"Y-you-you-you're....."
"The Rock—"
"Rock Angel." We both said together slowly. "Call me (y/n)." I greeted as I extended my hand out to him and he took it hold of it and shook it.
"I just—I can't believe that I'm-I'm-I'm actually standing beside the Rock Angel." I softly giggled.
"Just know that beyond the glam and the rock star female empowerment, I'm just a normal 55 year old woman."
"But you still look good." He said. I quirked my brow at him so he quickly tried to save himself, "Not that you're old or anything. I mean I don't mean to offend you I just....."
"Joseph. Relax dear. I'm not offended at all. Freddie always said that I would end up being an eternal beauty. At first I thought it was just Freddie being Freddie but as the years have passed I think he—that he must be behind giving me this youthful glow."
"The Rock Angel called me dear," he first gushed with a shy smile. "Sorry I just...... I grew up listening to your albums along with Queen and the first time I saw one of your broadcast performances, I kinda had a little crush on you" He said gently.
"Aww I'm flattered Joe, really I am." I said as I gently cupped the side of his face and gave his cheek a stroke of my thumb. At that point he looked like he was about to melt into a puddle with how much joy he was probably filled with. "Now Joe forgive me for saying this, how long have you been acting?"
"I was a child actor actually. I've—always been in the acting business. Why do you ask?"
"Well besides seeing some of my brother's features I feel like I've—seen you in something before."
"You might recall a little film that came out in the 90's known as Jurassic Park?"
"Wait hold on—you...." I gasped. "You played little Tim Murphy!?!"
"Yes, yes I was Tim Murphy."
"Oh my god. When that film came out my twin boys were literally obsessed with that movie. Would not watch anything else for a full year. They even wore out the old VHS tape we had for it. Oh my god how could I not recognize you sooner?"
"Well I was 8 just turning 9 while we were filming it."
"You had a birthday while filming?"
"Yeah. It was during the kitchen scene with the raptor. I actually got injured on that day."
"What? What happened?" he then proceeded to tell me exactly what had happened. Of how the raptor they used was on wheels and he was running toward the fridge and he was supposed to go left while the raptor was supposed to go right, but the guy controlling the raptor lost control and went the same direction as Joe and he ended up getting hit in the face with a metal claw.
And it was at that moment the director Steven Spielberg and the rest of the crew sang Happy birthday to him.
Then of course he tried to ask Joe at that moment if they could try it again, but when Joe proved he couldn't do it, they wrapped for that day.
"Oh you poor thing."
"It's okay, I survived."
"Well I hope you never suffered an injury like that since then. And on your birthday too? That's never a good birthday present to get a concussion."
"I was cleared out with no concussion, just a little dizzy and a bit of bruising."
"Oh I'm sorry love, it's my inner mother instincts kicking in."
"She always was an overprotective mother." We both turned around and I saw Roger walking up sporting the black beanie I gave him for Christmas last year and another actor who was sporting the Roger Taylor look he had for Live Aid.
"Oh look who's talking smother father! For years since I've known you you've been the definition of helicopter parent." I gawked at him. "You still sometimes even threaten Jack with missing out on our dates cause of our jobs."
"And I've always told you that boy would be trouble one day." He teased as he came up to me.
"Wow so it is actually true, you guys do look at each other as father and daughter." Said the young actor playing Roger.
"Yes Ben, my adoptive daughter (Y/n) Kline, otherwise known as the Rock Angel." Roger introduced.
"So you're the young actor playing my main father figure eh?" I said as I looked at the young man.
"Yes. Ben Hardy, it's a real honor to meet you in person Mrs. Kline. To say I was nervous to meet Roger is nothing compared to the thought of meeting you."
"Are you saying I'm intimidating and unapproachable?" I asked offendedly.
"Wha? No! No! God no I-I-I-I didn't mean it that way I was just...." I interrupted him with a laugh and said.
"Dear, relax. I was just pulling your leg."
"And be thankful she was. Otherwise, I'd beat your arse boy for insulting my daughter." Roger protectively stated.
"See there you go you old hypocrite. Besides Rog you haven't been able to kick anyone's arse in years. Don't want you breaking a hip now do we?" I mocked him.
"You're lucky these boys are here little missy." Roger scolded me.
" Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now then Ben, you were once on EastEnders right?" I said turning my attention back toward Ben.
"Yes. I played Peter Boyle on the show. My recent film before this was the new X-Men movie that came out about a year ago. X-Men Apocalypse."
"Ahh yes, my youngest son is always obsessed with all the superhero films. Marvel or DC. Now I'd like to see you two more closely, stand together." Both Joe and Ben followed orders and I looked both of them up and down.
Circling around them before cupping each of their faces once by one. And yes Ben was a bit more muscular than Roger was and of course they didn't get his hair right for this part in time, but there was just something in Ben's eyes that just made me think back to the first day I met Roger.
That sparkle of mischief but also protectiveness that shown through those blue eyes of his.
"That is most definitely my Roger. You both have the same spirit in your eyes. I can't wait to see how you play the drums up on that stage."
"Yeah, me neither." He said with a hint of nervousness. I then went over to Joe and cupped his face too. Just—my god just like with Deacy the profile was just uncanny. Of course, Deacy's eyes were more of a hazel type while Joe's were like a brownish type color. But I couldn't deny he looked so much like my brother. "And you my dear Joseph. Gwilym isn't the only one to resemble the man he's playing."
"It was kinda scary after getting the wig on. So much so that I called my mom and asked her what she was doing in 1983?" I laughed and said as I took my hands away from his face.
"Unfortunately, I can tell you for a fact that John Deacon is not your father. The only lady he's ever loved and will love is Veronica."
"I know." I chuckled softly.
"Now then Joe if you'll come with me there's important things I need to discuss with you."
"Like what?"
"You'll see. It was wonderful to meet you Ben, I hope we can get to know each other better later after you all film the Live Aid concert."
"Yeah of course, it was wonderful to meet you Mrs. Kline."
"Please call me (y/n). Dad you better not be too hard on this one, I like him."
"Don't worry I won't break him too much." The four of us went our separate ways.
Joe and I arrived at my trailer (all thanks to Rog and Bri). We entered inside and I told Joe to take a seat. He sat down on my couch while I went over to the kitchen.
"Tea?"
"Yes please. One sugar please."
"Just like how he liked it." I muttered to myself.
"What was that?"
"Nothing love, nothing." I prepped the tea for him and once it was done I handed him his cup and he thanked me. I watched him take a sip and he said,
"Ahh never gets old. I'm telling you after this I may just be the biggest tea fan ever."
"It is good for the soul. I myself have always found Jasmine to be the way to nirvana." I paused for a brief moment before saying, "Joe." He looked at me giving me his full attention, "As you know probably from weeks of research and maybe even from Roger and Brian themselves, Deacy chose to exempt himself from all forms of stardom. To live a quiet life with his family."
"Yeah. When I first got the part I did reach out to him on just any personal advice on certain quirks that he did. Cause even though I've played real life people before, this is the first time I'm playing someone whose still alive, and I wanted to do him justice."
"Yes, quite."
"However all I got back was just that he approved of the project and just for me to take it as any other actor would. Not that I'm saying that I'm mad at him for saying that. But I just—"
"I get it. Really I do." I took his hand and gripped onto it comfortingly. "Look. Ever since Freddie died, Deacy has been—grieving. Just like he did for me, it was Freddie who helped bring Deacy out of his shell and become more involved with the band. Not just being the bass player or the quiet guy."
"The King of the one liners, the tie breaker of Queen." Joe stated.
"Yes, although John could be loud and rowdy when he wanted to. He was definitely Queen's wildcard, but he was also their Ace. Unpredictable but incredibly brilliant. Never have I met a bass player quite like him. Nor do I think I ever will." It was quiet for what felt like forever when Joe asked me.
"Do you—do you still speak to him? I mean, cause I read that you both basically grew up close together, even for being 11 years apart from each other."
"Yes. We actually lived 20 minutes from each other back in our youth. He was and will always be my brother mine." I sighed heavily. "And to answer your question, I must remind you he's always been.....a cautious subject to me. Any remembrance of Freddie just makes him break, and as I'm sure you've seen from my concert footages I, sometimes, subconsciously find myself doing some Freddie movements on stage. Whether it's flicking my wrist like he did, strutting around the stage or waving my arms like he did. Deacy's.....he knows those things. But he's always there for me when I needed him. The last time was—on the tragedy of 9-11."
"Wait you mean....."
"Jack's cousin Jared and his wife Gen, they—they were on the plane that was overtaken by the terrorists. Took five days to finally find their bodies. Jared holding Gen in his arms. It was a risk but—I knew Jack needed more support than just his American family. So he and I went over to John and Veronica's place. We went at the early mornings of course just so that way no one would spot us driving in midday and try to track us down, then at sunrise we walked up to the door and—there he was. When Jack told him what had happened, he—actually invited us in and allowed us to stay the entire time. He ended up being the right support Jack needed."
"Your husband and John were close?"
"Oh yes. More alike than you know. Both incredibly talented bass players. That's how Jack got Deacy's approval when Jack and I started hanging out. He even gave my husband private lessons."
"Wow."
"Yes. They were practically inseparable the two of them for that summer. Even during their rehearsals, you would see Deacy go in the corner and practice what riffs he'd teach my Jack next. However that was the last time I ever actually saw Deacy, 16 long years ago. Haven't gotten in contact with him since. But occasionally, at least according to Brian, he asks them how I'm doing as well as Jack."
"I hope he's living a quiet and happy life with his kids and wife."
"I know they are. I still keep in contact with Ronnie whenever I can, sometimes we go out shopping, fawn over grandchildren pics, and just catching up. She was the mother I needed when I first had Kelly."
"Sounds like she was the ultimate mama."
"You have no idea." I felt Joe place his free hand on top of mine that still had his. I smiled softly at him before I got down to the real reason why I brought him here. "Joseph, now I know that when it comes to acting, Hollywood can pick whomever they deem worthy for a role, especially if it's for a real person. I'll be honest with you; hearing your American accent puts me a little on edge. Cause I have heard some pretty bad English accents on screen that just make me want to pull my ears off agonizingly slow. Now I know Deacy has probably the most unique accent from anyone in Leicester, I mean you hear my accent and I sound nothing like his dialect. So what I want to ask of you, just for the sake of you playing my brother, may I hear you speak with John's accent?"
"What-what would you like me to say?"
"Maybe say what you did for the audition. Or anything that comes to your head. It doesn't even have to be an interview Deacy did, I just want to hear your accent." He nodded before sitting back on the couch while I leaned back on the chair.
He adjusted himself before finally miming that he was driving a car before he finally spoke about when Deacy first joined the band. The one interview he did during the 'News of the World' tour with Bob Harris.
I felt like at that moment my heart had stopped. My hands slowly covered my mouth in a prayer style while the corner of my eyes watered. And sure there were certain words that he said that still sounded American but—this was my brother. I....I was actually looking at my brother right now. They got it right.
By the end of it, Joe looked at me and his eyes grew concerned as he said.
"Did I screw up?" I stood up from my chair in silence. I then walked over to him and knelt down in front of him cupping his face. A wide smile spread across my face as I immediately hugged him and softly sobbed.
"You are my Deacy! My brother mine." I then felt him embrace me back and the two of us rocked side to side. I looked up to the heavens praying that Fred was looking down knowing he would've loved Joe playing his Deacy. "If you ever need any advice or help, I'm here for you. Promise me Joe Mazzello that you will come to me with anything regarding Deacy."
"I promise (y/n)." he still spoke with Deacy's accent which filled me with both sorrow and happiness.
We stayed that way for god knows how long. After composing myself, we left my trailer when one of the volunteers came up to us and said.
"Joe, they're ready to start filming the concert."
"Shall we go on?" I asked.
"Yes, let's." God he had my brother's quick wit already. He crooked his arm out which made me grin softly. I looped my arm through his and the two of us walked on towards the Live Aid stage.
I stood alongside Roger, Peter Freestone (Freddie's former assistant and the other consultant for the film) as well as Brian's youngest daughter Emily (who in every way was so much like her father from the hair to the smile).
"I think this will be a great shoot, don't you think (y/n)?" asked Peter.
"Indeed Pheebs. And I'm sure Freddie would've loved to have seen it."
"He would indeed." He said as he wrapped an arm around me and soon Brian came and stood beside us after being backstage with the young actors who then came out just as Queen did that day back in 85. When I saw the young actor playing our Freddie, I was already impressed.
Sure he was skinnier than Freddie was, but seeing him move about just as Freddie did it was like I was seeing Freddie right before my eyes. The boys got into position and soon began to perform the entire Live Aid concert.
Besides actually being there and seeing them perform from the wings that day over 30 years ago, this was about the greatest concert performance I had ever seen.
The boys in full costume had everything down. Gwilym channeled Brian's solo on Bohemian Rhapsody, Ben was pretty impressive on the drums, Joe had Deacy's rhythmic moves down, and the young man playing Freddie he—it was beyond what I could imagine. He wasn't just moving like Freddie, it was like he knew why Freddie would move a certain way to a song.
I was in awe cause it felt like I had actually traveled back in time and was watching Queen's most historical performance once again. I stood behind Brian and wrapped my arms around his shoulders leaning up against his head smiling from ear to ear, I felt Brian take one of my hands and gently patted it every now and then.
When the Aye-Oh's happened I could help but lowered my head and holding my laughs of joy. I swear when this is over, I need to talk to this new actor playing Freddie cause unlike Sacha, this was our Freddie. Soon Hammer to Fall came on and I couldn't help but bop my head along to the song.
I felt a tap at my shoulder and I turned to see Emily holding her phone out with the notes app open. In the app it read.
'Is this how you remember it Aunt (y/n)?' I walked towards her and gestured for me to have her phone. She handed it to me and I typed out.
'Everything and more. God I wish your cousin Kelly could've been here to see this as well as your uncle Jack. They would've loved it.' I showed her my message and she came up and wrapped her arms around my shoulders as the two of us smiled happily up at the stage.
When Hammer to Fall concluded, the extras and even me and team Queen applauded. I let out a loud whistle from the sidelines as I applauded and took pictures with my own phone to show Jack and the kids later. Now I recall that it was at this time the guys ended up surprising me and the world with our duet "Set it all free" instead of the planned 'Crazy Little thing called love'.
Now I've been skeptical about having a biopic film about me, even though I knew both Queen and Elton were starting theirs at the same time, hell one of the producers Dexter Fletcher is currently directing Elton's film 'Rocketman' as we speak right now. So I didn't know if they would plan to do Crazy little thing or if they'd go the set as it was all those years ago.
I got my answer however when Ben started to play the drum intro to my song.
"You guys didn't." I muttered.
"We wanted to be historically accurate with the Live Aid set." Brian started.
"So we cooked up a little surprise for you." Roger said. It was then I heard the actor playing Freddie began chanting out along with the audience "An-gel! An-gel! An-gel!" it was then I saw a young girl come out and—by god it was like looking at my younger self from that day.
She was dressed exactly how I was with a pregnant belly suit underneath her shirt. Her hair was designed the same way as mine was, everything just took me back. Instead of a playback that the Freddie actor was using for all the singing, this young woman was actually singing and she had a pretty good voice.
I continued to watch in awe as the young woman basically became me doing each step or movement I did that day on Live Aid. I felt Brian and Roger wrap their arms around me as I couldn't even take my eyes off the young woman up on stage. I could hear the extras singing out the lyrics, even some of the crew members were bopping their heads and singing along.
She walked across the stage at the second verse right towards the Freddie actor and just like Fred and I did, they stood forehead to forehead singing the duet before she walked back out and went back to center stage. When the guitar solo came on, my eyes turned to Gwilym and he amazed me that he actually could do my hard rock solo.
After the song was over, the crowd applauded and cheered and I turned to the guys and hugged them and whispered into their ears.
"If this is you guys way of trying to get me to sign onto a biopic film......I'm highly considering it after seeing her."
"We'll introduce you later." Said Roger as we separated from the hug and we turned our attention back to the guys as We Will Rock you now began playing. I couldn't help myself by stomp my feet to the rhythm and mouth out the words.
I was just amazed by not only Gwilym's guitar playing but also the young man who moved just like how I remembered seeing Freddie move, using the mic stand as Fred always did (the cheeky man), even the facial expressions that he made were exactly like they were.
It wasn't until when 'We are the champions' came on that I could barely hold my tears in. Seeing not only Fred's actor but my actor singing the famed Queen anthem that has literally been played in every victory sport or award winning singing competition.
Seeing the two of them interact with each other, it was pure nostalgia.
By the end of the song, tears welled up in my eyes and I looked toward the heavens hoping that Freddie could see this and running through my mind I already knew what he'd say.
"Amazing jobs my darlings, not as fabulous as me but very, very close." When the extras and even some crew members cheered, Brian, Roger, Peter, Emily and myself all applauded and cheered for the boys and that's when the director called cut.
"This.....is gonna be a great movie." I said.
"I think so too. After just seeing them come together like that, I think we've finally casted the right people to play us." Said Brian.
"I agree you two, I'm liking what I've just seen so far." Roger said.
"And—I'm sure he would've liked this too." I said solemnly. I felt Roger gently rub my back and Brian said.
"I know he would."
After a few more takes of filming the Live Aid concert, the director said that it was enough for today. I walked around the set to find the producer Graham King and when I approached him I asked him.
"Graham tell me, who's the young man you got to play Freddie?"
"Oh his name is Rami Malek. His recent project was a show called Mr. Robot."
"Ahh yes I've heard of that, my Freddie is obsessed with that show. Never misses an episode."
"When we were casting Freddie I happened to come across an episode and when I saw him I—just thought I was looking at Freddie. So we brought him in, he gave us a mock interview as well as an audition that your boys saw when they first met him. And from then on it just fell into place. Do you approve of him? Is there a problem Mrs. Kline?"
"Absolutely not. Do you know where I can find Rami at right now?"
"Probably in hair and makeup getting undressed."
"Well, when he is done would you be so kind as to bring him to my trailer?"
"Of course (y/n)." I nodded in gratitude and walked off to my trailer.
I sat there once again on the chair looking through an old photo album. Each picture held a deep and personal memory for me, I thought back to the day that each picture was taken and remembered exactly what was going on at that very moment.
A knock was soon heard at my trailer. I composed myself with a deep exhale and said.
"Come in." the door opened and there without costume or the tache was Rami Malek.
"Graham said you wanted to see me Mrs. Kline?"
"Yes Rami, love please come in." he stepped inside and shut the door behind him. "Take a seat." I gestured towards the couch. He sat right where Joe had sat down earlier this morning and I said. "Would you care for a biscuit, or as Americans call them cookies?"
"Uhh yes please." I smiled and handed him a tray of biscuits I always kept around me (hey a woman's gotta have her sweet tooth fix right?) and handed him my best plate of chocolate chip cookies (all thanks to my mother in law's secret recipe). He thanked me as he took one and took a bite out of it. "Mmm. Oh my god," he cleared his throat and closed his mouth before finishing the biscuit up. "This is so good."
"Thank you, it was my mother in law's secret recipe. She passed it onto me shortly before Kelly was born." He took another bite of it and swallowed that piece before saying as he set it down on a napkin that I had also provided.
"What-what was it you needed to see me for Mrs.—"
"Before we continue, I'll ask you to call me the same way I've asked the other three of the band to call me. Call me (y/n)."
"Yes of course, (y/n). What was it you wanted to see me for? Is it to talk about what you saw out there? Did I screw it up already?"
"No, no dear relax. This is nothing in the way you're thinking." I saw him take a sigh of relief.
"Oh good. Cause I know I obviously wasn't the first choice for the job."
"In my books Rami, you should've been the first one to be called for the role."
"Really?"
"Oh yes, but first there's a couple of questions that I want to ask you that Brian and Roger might not have asked you, and I want you to answer them as Freddie would've."
"Okay." I smiled softly and stood up from my seat as I set the phot album aside.
"Who is Queen not without?"
"That's easy. It's you darling. There's no Queen without their beloved Rock Angel, and no Rock Angel without her four aging Queens." I felt my heart clench at hearing Rami speak with a British tone. The softness of his voice almost sounded identical to Freddie's voice. I turned towards him and walked towards the kitchen area of my trailer.
"Who is it that you trust the most?"
"Mary. Mary is the one I trust the most. For she knows me like no one else ever will." I reached the kitchen and rested my hand against the island.
"Who are you?" Rami looked at me before finally answering something that would forever stun me.
"I've been asked that all my life. By my family, student peers, professors, the entire world. I've been told who I should strive to be but I say fuck what they say. They don't define me. No, I decided who I am. I'm going to be what I was born to be. A performer who gives the people what they want." He pointed towards the ceiling as he whispered, "touch of the heavens." He dropped his hand before finally answering, "Freddie Fucking Mercury."
My lips quivered and I ducked my head as tears began falling down my face for—god knows how many times right now.
"Oh (y/n) I—I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry, I—did I say something wrong?" Rami said urgently as he stood up and stood in front of me.
"No." I choked out. I sniffled and that's when he handed me a tissue. Oh ever the kind gentleman and concerned about my wellbeing, just like Freddie was. "No you—you've prove to me that you know just who Freddie truly was."
"Didn't want to be put in a certain category or be stereotyped." He said. I nodded as I wiped my tears with the tissue he had given me.
"For as long as I have known Freddie, especially to his last, various people have chosen one of two sides. There's the one side that the press made him out to be. The one that-that—bastard Cohen wanted to portray Freddie as. The wild, crazed, homosexual drug addict. That he deserved what he had gotten because he was so reckless and stupid. That AIDS was his form of suicide. Never did I want to punch and murder so many people. Every time I got asked about whether Freddie's death was his own fault, I just wanted to rip the interviewer apart."
"I can see why. I bet a lot of true fans and the people who knew Freddie well would've done what you've felt like doing."
"But people like you Rami, who understand that Freddie wasn't just a frontman or greatest performer to ever live. That he did come from a harsh background but rose above all the trials and tribulations that came his way to define himself as he sought out to be. That's why he was my biggest idol." I grabbed the photo album and sat down on the couch and opened it up taking out a picture that was always a favorite of mine.
It was a picture that Deacy took of Freddie and I together just after my very first performance as the Rock Angel at Madison Square Garden. Fred's arms wrapped around me as he had picked me up, huge wide smiles were spread across our faces. I felt a dip on my left side I looked up to see Rami sitting close beside me. He looked down at the picture before saying.
"Was this your first performance?"
"Yes. Out of four members of Queen, it was Freddie Mercury who truly believed that I could make a name for myself in the industry. Taught me everything there was into getting the self-confidence I needed to get up on that stage. Sure we had our ups and downs, but through all the falls we had, he never gave up on me. He gave up on no one that he loved. And Rami," we looked at each other and I told him the utmost truth, "If he were alive today, he would've loved you."
He smiled as I gently touched his cheek and the two of us looked through my photo album of every picture Freddie and I took throughout the 11 years I knew him.
At the end of the day, just before the four boys left to go hang out at a pub nearby, I stepped in and offered.
"Why not have dinner over at my place boys?"
"Oh we couldn't impose." Said Joe.
"Nonsense Joe, I insist and I won't take no for answer. Plus it'll be a more homely environment. You boys can't live on catering and pub foods for the next several months to a year. No I absolutely won't have it."
"Best go along with her boys, she got her persuasion from the best there was." Roger added in.
"Well—if you think it's a good idea." Said Gwilym.
"Of course it is. Now come on, you four can fit in my car. Let's go. Meet you there Brian and Roger?"
"We'll be right behind you love." Said Brian. I gestured the boys to follow me to my car. Ben sat up in the passenger seat, Joe sat behind him, Rami was in the middle and Gwilym sat behind me. I turned the engine on and told everyone to buckle up (mama instincts what can I say?) and we pulled out of the gate and I drove us on home.
"So (y/n), what other kind of music do you listen to?" asked Joe.
"Whatever song has a good voice and a good beat, with no autotune I will love. You can look through my Spotify and see what I have." Ben took my phone out of the phone holder and turned around as Joe took over the controls and went to my Spotify.
"Wow there are a lot of songs. And I thought you would've just stuck with what you grew up on."
"Unlike most rockstars like Roger who think everything after 1979 basically became trash music with the rise of pop or as they called it 'disco'. I'm a little more open minded. But I deny all songs that use explicit language every three words, degrading women, or promotes violence."
"You even got some old Christina Aguilera songs on here?" asked Rami.
"Who do you think helped produce her?"
"Shut the front door. You produced Christina Aguilera?"
"Yeah. I even gave her rights to a song that I wanted to do. But even singing it brought back some old wounds. So since I was helping her produce her album at the time, I turned to song over to her."
"What song was it?" asked Ben.
"Fighter."
"Shut up! That was literally my jam."
"I can attest to that. Throughout the filming of The Pacific, he would never shut that song off when getting into Eugene's character for certain episodes." Rami rose his hand.
"Yeah. I have an entire playlist of some songs I helped produce or make. You can play that playlist if you'd like. Or my typical playlist my boys best songs."
"I think in the light of our first day filming, we should go with Queen. What do you guys say?" Joe asked.
"Agree."
"Yep."
"Oh yeah."
"Aright then Joe, we'll each pick our favorite Queen song. You're up first little Tim." He grinned and scrolled through my playlist until Somebody to love came up on the speakers. "Read my mind Joseph." The piano began playing and that's when I vocalized alongside Freddie and the five of us began singing the song at the top of our lungs.
The entire car ride contained each of us picking our top favorite songs. Ben did 'White Queen' which I commended on him cause people nowadays tend to forget the old Queen songs, Gwilym picked Love of my Life, Rami chose Radio Gaga, and I, of course chose Bohemian Rhapsody.
Thanks to Wayne's world (yes I saw the movie and yes it was silly but just the opening scene alone made the movie worth watching) we basically did the same motion by motion that those boys did in the film when the operatic section came on. And of course when the headbanging rock out came on, the boys proceeded to bang their hands while I did mine not as aggressively (responsible driving kids!)
We continued to rock out to the song and it wasn't until by the end of the song that we soon arrived at my home. I pulled the car up into the garage and hit the clicker button which opened up the garage door and I pull inside just as the last line came up and Roger's gong rang off. I shut the engine and said.
"Here we are boys, welcome to casa de la Kline." We all exited out of my car and right behind us as scheduled were Brian and Roger with Bri getting out of the driver's seat. "Bout time you two got here, I was beginning to worry that I'd need to call in an ambulance."
"We're old dear, not dead." Roger sassed at me.
"But I still love you old coots. Just like I said all those years ago."
"That I do remember, the day right after you got so shitfaced after your 21st birthday. You remember that Brian?" Roger said.
"Indeed I do Rog, I even remember what we did to her to get her to apologize, think we need to do it again?"
"That might have to be arranged."
"Oh no you guys don't! We're not doing that now, now let's get inside before we all catch a cold." I guided them all inside. Once we stepped through the backdoor of the garage I could already smell something cooking, and I knew who exactly was cooking at this rate. "Baby! I'm home!" I called out from the hallway.
We turned the corner and soon came to the kitchen where a young man of 19 (going on 20 in a couple months) stood by the oven. He shut it off and turned around. He was every bit like his father when I first met him back in '83, but he had my eyes. When he saw me, he softly smiled and I came up to him.
"Sorry I didn't call in advance telling you that we would have more guests than your uncles."
"No worries mom. You know I've always cooked way more than I should." I smiled and cupped his face and we kissed each other's cheek. "Uncle Brian, uncle Roger."
"Hello Fred." Brian greeted.
"Hey lad, how's school been?"
"Oh you know, NYU's a challenge but I manage." He then directed his attention towards the young actors but when he eyes landed on Rami, he quickly grabbed my arm and whispered to me. "You didn't tell me you'd be bringing Rami Malek to our house!"
"Again slipped my mind." I teased him.
"Mom how dare you bring my celebrity crush here without telling me, look at me I'm a mess."
"Oh you're fine. Now best behavior." I wrapped an arm around my son and said. "Boys, this is my youngest son Freddie Mercury Kline. Fred, these are the boys that will be playing your uncles. This is Joe Mazzello, he'll be playing your uncle Deacy. Ben Hardy who's playing your old uncle Roger."
"Watch it lion cub." Rog warned me. I gave him a cheeky look before continuing the introductions.
"Gwilym Lee will be playing your uncle Brian, and you know Rami, he'll be playing the man you were named after."
"Uncle Freddie?"
"Yes. And—from what I've seen so far, you'll finally get to meet him through the screen."
"I don't doubt that. I'm a big fan of yours Rami, your role in Mr. Robot has been—amazing."
"I'm honored."
"Alright since we've all had a long day today, let's get some grub. Everyone grab a plate." I grabbed some extra plates from the cabinet and handed four plates out to the actors and we all assembled around the island to grab a piece of lasagna, peas, mashed potatoes with gravy and Hawaiian rolls.
Once we gathered around the table I set out the iced tea Jack had made a couple of days ago as well as some champagne or wine. "Okay guys, before we dig in I want all hands on deck." I extended my hand out.
Freddie immediately placed his hand on top of mine, Brian and Rog soon followed after and it was then Rami, Gwilym, Joe and finally Ben placed their hands on top.
"Thank you for this family, thank you for this meal. Thank you for this day. It'll be a wild ride, but I feel this movie will soar, and—that this new family will forever stay." I said ending the traditional family prayer. The young actors looked at me with warm eyes and soft smiles.
"Alright, let's dig in. You boys will never eat the same way again once you taste (y/n)'s cooking." Roger said.
"That bad?" joked Joe. I gawked at the young cheeky actor.
"On the contrary she's the best chief on this side of London. Even when she was an intern she made us this one Christmas pudding that was to die for." Brian spoke on my behalf.
"It's true. She put all the other PTA mom's to shame when it came to my school's bake sales." Freddie said as he took a bite of his lasagna.
The entire dinner was filled with talks about our lives, stories and embarrassing moments in life. Not a single person was excluded from a conversation. After dinner, Rami and Gwilym helped Freddie with the dishes while I got some other scrapbooks out and bonded a bit with Ben and Joe about my time with Rog and Deacy.
"Now this Joe was taken during my first Japan tour. At the very garden where Queen went to near the Tokyo tower, Deacy refused to let me leave without having a cherry blossom crown."
"He seems to be doing good in the picture."
"Except one twig got so tangled in my hair it literally took 15 minutes just to get it out." We both laughed before I turned the page and found a great picture of me and Roger. "Now this picture Ben, both Roger and I have this picture, this was taken after my first Hyde Park performance."
"She performed to an audience of half of what Queen did when we performed at Hyde Park." Roger spoke.
"She could've performed for more but times changed and better security measure for the public's safety prevented it from happening again." Brian added.
"One thing's for sure, I was damn well proud of her for performing at her biggest crowd at the time just barely two years into her career." Roger spoke again. I looked up and winked at him.
"You guys really do have that father-daughter bond don't you?" Joe said.
"Have ever since she gave me the real 1 and 3/7th's sugar."
"It wasn't until Brian told me the next day that Roger just says that to pull people's leg. God I felt embarrassed after that."
"Aww lovie, but it was due to that I became your favorite. And I don't regret it as I'm sure you don't."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." As Gwilym, Rami and Freddie came back in I continued going through the scrapbook sharing my photos of my days with Queen with the boys, and allowing Freddie to finally hear all the stories that he was denied cause of my grief.
As the night got darker and darker, the young actors at this moment were so full of food and exhausted from a long day's filming they actually passed out along my living room. Joe and Ben cuddled up on the couch, Rami asleep on the recliner, while Gwilym was curled up along the loveseat.
Meanwhile I was watching over them and couldn't help but think it was like seeing my boys all over again. I remember back when I was still an intern and would see the guys all passed out whether at Freddie's parties or in the studio, I always had to provide the guys comfort (which I never minded). So seeing these four young men passed out just brought me a sense of nostalgia.
"I got the spare blankets mom."
"Thank you dear. Your uncles tucked in the spare bedrooms?"
"Uncle Brian's in the room across yours and dad's and uncle Roger is in Georgie's old room."
"Good boy." I then proceeded to cover up and adjust the young actors. I wrapped both Joe and Ben in the same blanket and closed Joe's mouth gently so that he wouldn't drool in his sleep, followed by giving them each a soft kiss goodnight. Without trying to wake him up, I uncurled Gwilym from his pretzel position and covered him up.
I gingerly stroked through his hair before placing a soft kiss to his temple. He groaned and lifted his head up which allowed me to place a pillow underneath him. He hummed in content as he snuggled into it. I then went over to Rami and adjusted the seat so that he would be more comfortable. Pressing the button on our automatic recliner, his legs slowly rose up before finally stopping in full recliner mode.
I tucked him in while looking down at him. God even without the tache it was like looking at Freddie from when I first met him in person at a concert, long before I became an intern. I gently kissed his cheek before faintly stroking his cheek.
Sitting outside along the deck, Freddie and I were looking up at the stars.
"So you think this movie's gonna be a hit?"
"Critics are always hard to please, no matter if it's music or movies. From what I've read of the script yes there's misinformation but that's why it's called a biopic. There's some truth but it's the touch of Hollywood in order to make the film not a boring documentary. But those four boys, they are just how I remember your uncles being when I not only worked with them, but grew up with them hearing their music."
"I wish I had gotten the chance to meet uncle Freddie." Fred said after a brief moment of silence. I turned to him to see him looking down sadly.
"So do I love. He would've loved you as much as he did your brothers and sister. And he would've been over the moon had he found that I had named you after him." I brought my baby close and he wrapped his arms around me as we both looked up at the moon and the stars together.
The star right by the moon glowed the brightest, the very same star that shined just as bright the night after the tribute concert we did back in '92. I couldn't help as a tear slid down my face and a smile spread across my face.
I knew that it was Freddie's star, telling me that he was watching us and that he was proud.
America’s Sweetheart 5
hi there beautiful people !!
Read previous chapter here <-
The press finds out about Reader and Spencer’s relationship, and Reader opens up to Spencer. Cliffhanger at the end 👀
Angst + fluff !!
MASTERLIST
__
I had to turn my phone on silent.
Person after person was calling me, asking questions, giving their opinion. My face was splashed over every magazine, tabloid, and news article I could find.
Spencer had called me four times, never getting an answer.
YFN YLN has a new man!
YFN YLN has risen to fame in the last few years, but that’s not all she’s seemed to accomplish.
The american sweetheart has been spotted multiple times walking the streets of Washington DC with, not only a man, but a federal agent. After one of our sources found them at a coffee shop, the mystery man threatened to arrest our source and to leave YFN be.
We have identified the mystery man as none other than SSA Dr. Spencer Reid, a federal agent in the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. Not only is Reid a handsome fellow, he’s a smart cookie as well. With three PhDs and a couple of BAs tucked under his belt, the good doctor has chosen to settle down with our very own YFN YLN.
How did these lovebirds meet? Did the deaths of YFN’s parents affect the relationship? When will they be planning the wedding?
All questions to be answered. Tune in to our next weeks....
The pictures of Spencer and I were fine. We’re smiling, laughing. Nothing to suggest any gossip, drama, or otherwise.
But that’s what’s going to happen. People all around the world will be watching, analyzing, waiting for what happens next.
The knock at my door made me roll my eyes, the clever tune telling me it was Spencer. He must’ve come straight to my house after his case.
“YFN, I know you’re in there! We need to talk about this-” I opened the door, revealing my disheveled appearance. Spencer stopped, concern filling his eyes. “Can I come in?”
“Sure,” I said, quietly, letting him in the door. His old converse thudded against my wood floors, and I followed behind him at a safe distance.
“Okay, what’s wrong? The press would eventually figure it out, that’s what you always said,” Spencer said impatiently, spinning around to face me.
“I know! I’ve just never been in a relationship that’s so... public.” I crossed my arms over my chest, pushing past Spencer into my kitchen. “I’m just preparing for the blowback of rumors, gossip, drama. That’ll come too, you know.”
“So? What does that matter?” Spencer asked, pulling gently on my arm. I faced him again, and I could see his next question in his eyes. “You also haven’t told me about your parents...”
“You haven’t told me about your parents!” I shot back, my defenses coming up.
Spencer didn’t miss a beat. “My mom has schizophrenia and my dad left when I was eleven. Those are my parents. Now you need to tell me about yours. I want to hear it from you over a tabloid or a reporter.”
I sniffled, pulling away from Spencer gently. I sat over on the couch, and he didn’t hesitant to follow. Spencer sat next to me quietly, like if he makes no noise I won’t notice he’s still there.
“At the Academy awards a few years ago, I was nominated for best actress. It was my first nomination for anything, and I was still super young and fitting into the business. The newbie, you might say.” Spencer nodded, understanding.
“I didn’t win, and I didn’t expect to win so I wasn’t super sad about it. But my dad took my ‘loss’ as a personal vendetta. He was cursing at me quietly for the rest of the night. At the parties after the Oscars, my dad got really drunk and wandered into a busy street. My mom followed him, trying to get him out of harms way when...” I swallowed, silent tears streaming down my face.
“An eighteen wheeler going forty miles an hour hit both of them at two o’clock in the morning outside of a bar. The paparazzi were the first people on the scene, quickly figuring out the victims were the parents of a young Hollywood actress that lost the win at the Oscars. I found out about what happened from a reporter, who showed me pictures of the accident.”
Spencer was speechless. “YFN, I... that’s horrible...”
I gave a bitter laugh, looking over at him next to me. “My award winning role, the one that made my name... was a woman named Meg. She’s left on her own in the world, desperate to make something of herself. People asked me, ‘YFN, how did you act out that kind of pain?’ and I could never tell them that... while filming, it didn’t even feel like an act half the time. It was just me.”
Spencer didn’t say anything. Instead, he wrapped an arm around my shoulders, pulling me into his chest. I breathed in the scent of him, smells of soap and new books. “Thank you for telling me,” he mumbled into my hair.
“If I had won that Oscar, my parents would still-”
Spencer pulled away, looking me in the eyes. “Do not ever feel guilty. There was no way of knowing how that night would end up. It is not your fault.”
I nodded, exhaustion overtaking me and tears falling quietly down my face. We’d been together for six months, and Spencer had never seen me cry before.
He just sat with me, rubbing my shoulders while I picked myself together. After a moment, he glanced towards my kitchen. “Do you have any ice cream?”
I gave a small chuckle, looking over into his coffee brown eyes. “Is that even a question?" __
Three weeks since my breakthrough with Spencer. Three weeks of running from paps, stealing kisses inside secluded coffee shops, and competitions of who can make the funnier faces in far off cameras. As if by a miracle, not one case tore Spencer away from me for three weeks.
Until that three weeks ended.
“When do you think you’ll be back?” I said, trotting up the front steps to my house. The phone balanced precariously between my cheek and shoulder, my hands full of audition scripts.
Washington DC nightlife twinkled in the street, making me smile. The world had gotten brighter since I had met Spencer.
“I’m not sure, this case is complicated,” Spencer huffed, sounding exhausted. “Four days, maybe? I’m sorry, we had plans for the dinner-”
“Spencer,” I interrupted. “Do not apologize for doing your job. I think I can survive for a few days on my own. Maybe I’ll even rehearse without you distracting me!”
I could hear Spencer’s smile through the phone. “It’ll be torture for you though. You love my distractions.”
“Goodnight, Spencer,” I said in a sing song voice, opening the front door to my house.
He chuckled. “Goodnight, YFN.”
The house was quiet when I walked in, too quiet. An eerie feeling settled on my shoulders. “Hello?” I called, feeling stupid. Even if there was someone there to murder me, what makes me think they would answer?
A thought of the notes crossed my mind. Those creepy photos of me on the street, torn up articles about Spencer, and a dozen roses to add a romantic touch.
But I hadn’t gotten a single creepy note in months, since before I met Spencer’s team. The creeper had probably moved on to another lucky girl.
As I threw my keys and scripts on the counter, I never even saw the arms circling tightly around my shoulders. Just the rancid smell of cigarettes and alcohol.
The Prank That Ended the War - MGG
Pairing: Matthew Gray Gubler X Fem!Reader
Requested: No, this came to me one night at 1am and I can't stop thinking about it.
Warnings: None
Summary: You and Matthew are co-stars in Criminal Minds and you play Spencer's love interest SSA Ellie Lauren. The two of you have been great friends since you started on the show and have been in an ongoing prank war. His last prank was filling your car with rubber ducks and you decided to end the prank war with one he couldn't possibly top; You were going to trick him into marrying you. The Fic takes place during an interview after the fact.
A/N: If you guys like this and want me to write a version of this while the prank is going on please let me know! I will not complain in the least.
~~~
"Our next guest has recently been in the media for an over-the-top prank she pulled while filming the hit Criminal Drama show Criminal Minds. Here to talk all about it is the beautiful and fascinating Y/N L/N!" Drew's interduction brought me to the stage as the crowd cheered. I waved to the audience as I sat down in the seat across from Drew.
"Hello Drew!" I said with a giggle in my voice as I crossed my ankles.
"Hello Y/N. Thank you so much for being here. Let's cut to the chase here, recently a video of a very anticipated scene being filmed on your show was leaked onto YouTube of your character Ellie Lauren marrying Matthew Gray Gubler's character Dr. Spencer Reid; except it was a take of you guys getting married that ended with you celebrating the fact that you pulled off a prank on Gubler. For those who have not seen or heard about this viral video and rumors, would you like to explain what happened?" Drew was smirking and I nodded.
"I would love to explain. It's a long story so buckle up. When I first started on Criminal Minds I was extremely nervous, like I could barely remember my lines kind of nervous and Matthew noticed, so he decided to make me feel more comfortable by pulling a prank on me." I started to explain, moving my hair out of my face, "The prank was something small, he put my cellphone into jello, so I decided to prank him back with a simple whoopee cushion under his seat whilst filming. That was the beginning of the prank war." I smiled at the memory, remembering the red that flooded his cheeks when the cast and crew couldn't contain their laughter.
"For five years the pranks just kept escalating and our friendship grew stronger. I dyed the tips of his hair blue while he was asleep once. Asleep!" I said and Drew laughed.
"So what was the prank that made you do this?"
"He filled my car with Rubber ducks and I was running out of ideas. After years of back and forth pranking each other you'd be bound to use every prank in the book so I was trying to come up with the prank that would finally end the war while I was reading the script for Ellie and Spencer's wedding scene when it hit me," I paused as I let the audience think about the prank, "What if I tricked Matthew into marrying me in real life?"
The audience cheered and I nodded my head, "I know! At first I thought it was crazy, how could I pull this off? I wanted to see if I could get away with it. So I started planning,"
"How long was the planning process?" Drew interrupted and I sighed in an exasperated way.
"Oh goodness Drew, I only had a week to plan this prank! A week! I basically planned a wedding in a week, well technically the wedding part was planned out by the show I just needed to think of the technicalities; like how am I going to get him to sign the marriage licenses?" I shrugged my shoulders for effect.
"You see, Matthew tends to do this thing where he doesn't fully read documents before signing them. He doesn't really read them at all, but if I was the one who gave him the things he needed to sign in order for the marriage to be real he would become suspicious; so I asked Shemar Moore, who plays Derek Morgan on the show to help me."
"Did you fill him in on the plan?"
"Of course I did, Drew, he told me I was crazy but agreed to do it because he wanted to see the reaction. I was anxious as hell when he disappeared into Matthew's trailer and I paced through mine the whole time. He returned quickly with the biggest smile on his face and I knew that the hardest part of the prank was over. I sobbed," That earned a large laugh from the audience, "No it's true! I was so relieved that I started to full on sob in my trailer. I knew i needed to see this to the end. It had to be done. I did all the boring stuff with the papers and then came another tough spot."
"Who's going to be the one to officiate the wedding?" Drew was very invested in the story.
"Exactly! In the show, Spencer and Ellie begged David Rossi to officiate their wedding so he was going to be the one during the scene. I went to Joe and filled him in on my crazy plot. I then asked him if he would get ordained for this prank; I told him I would pay for anything he needed and I would owe him for life, but he agreed because he wanted to see if I would get caught. Soon I realized I had to fill in some other people on the prank when the time came for filming so I told the director, some of the crew, and the main cast. It was crazy and Matthew was totally completely unaware of this prank." I shook my head, I still can't believe that I managed to pull this off.
"Of course, I was friendly with his mother so I got the OK to invite her to be an extra in the scene so she could witness her son getting married. She told me I was a genius and would make sure she wouldn't get caught by him so I flew her out. It was fantastic." I laughed at myself.
"When the day came I was scared that he was going to be so mad that he would end the friendship, but I thought the plan was genius that I was willing to risk it. Everything was ready since the wedding was planned, there were rings, I had the dress and hair and makeup done, and I was so excited. I had told my parents about what I was doing and my dad actually plays Ellie's father in the show so he would be walking me down the aisle. He wasn't so pleased to learn that I was actually getting married for real."
Drew burst out laughing. "Should we play the video that was leaked?" He asked and i nodded.
"Be my guest." I said turning to the screen.
The scene started at the middle of the scene where we were saying the vows as Spencer and Ellie. It was clear that I was nervous and everyone was slightly panicky. I had just finished saying Ellie's vows and Joe began to speak, purposefully messing up the lines to reveal the prank to Matthew.
"It's with my greatest pleasure to announce the newlywed couple by the state of California; Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Gray Gubler! You may now kiss the bride!"
It didn't seem to register in his head as he pulled me in for the kiss, but then the director called "Cut!" And I almost passed out at the fact that I had somehow managed to actually pull this off. It wasn't until he stopped the kiss when Joe's lack of acting finally clicked into his head.
"Ha, ha. Very funny Joe." He said, but everyone of the main cast; AJ, Shemar, Thomas, Paget, Kristin, Joe, and I all burst out laughing out of shock.
"What!?! Why are you all laughing?" He was laughing too out of awkwardness.
"I actually did it holy shit! Okay, Matthew you're going to hate me, but I just pulled the most epic prank on you." I was still laughing, barely able to get the words out.
He was confused, "What?"
Shemar pulled the copies of the marriage license out of his pocket and handed it to him, "Read it and wheep."
Matthew opened the copies and his mouth dropped open, "Certificate of marriage!?! How did you get me to sign this!?!" He was shocked as it started to click in his head.
I finally had calmed down a bit by now, "You really need to start reading things people give to you to sign." I explained with a snort and he gaped at me.
"Wait, so we're legally married? Joe are you actually ordained?" He asked, shock filled his face as he nodded his head.
"Oh my god." His face turned bright red and he laughed, then he noticed his mother and almost passed out at that.
I turned to the camera, "May this be known as the day Y/N L/N won the prank war and now has full on bragging rights as I am now the legal wife of Matthew Gray Gubler. I can now die happy as my life is complete."
The video ended and the audience cheered loudly. I stood up, bowing down at the applause, "Thank you! Thank you, it really was some of my best work." I joked sitting back down.
Drew was clapping as well, "So what I got out of this was that you wanted the bragging rights?"
I nodded, "Oh but of course, at first it was just 'Hey, what if I tried?' But soon I became so invested in this prank that failure was not an option. I put so much effort into this that I could not fail." I laughed, "Besides, I get to say that I married him. Not many people would be able to say that." I joked and he chuckled.
"So, are you two planning on getting the marriage annulled?" He asked and i chuckled.
"We tried, the next day the two of us went to the courthouse to get a judge to agree, but apparently because of the way I did it we have to wait four months to get it annulled. I didn't think about that part." I admitted.
"Was he angry? About the prank?"
"Shockingly, no. He was very impressed that I managed to pull something this crazy off; hell I was impressed with myself. He even admitted that there wasn't anything he could do to top this prank and thus the prank war had ended. He's a bit annoyed that we have to wait to get it annulled, but not with me." I explained and he nodded.
"I have officially peaked in life, nothing will ever top that moment." I say pointing to the screen.
"You are quite the genius Miss. L/N. Do you have anything to add?" He asked and I hummed, looking at the camera that was on.
"Do not do that with your friends. Don't trick someone into marrying you as a prank, it's a pain in the ass to get undone and it could hurt some feelings. Matthew and I have been friends for years and set rules for the prank war, this prank was purely for shits and giggles. Don't do something that drastic with your friends." The audience clapped at my speech, "Don't prabk someone with a relationship period, it could really hurt someone's feelings and bring insecurities to light."
"I just have one more question for you, what if you and Matthew were to get into a relationship during these four months. Would you annull the marriage still or stay married?"
The blush on my face came as a shock to myself, would I want a relationship with Matthew?
"Honestly, Drew, Matt is such a great guy. He's funny, smart, attractive; I wouldn't be surprised if I fell in love with him. Who knows, all the romantic scenes might get to me," I joke, but the audience cooed, "If that were to happen, I'm not sure what his thoughts would be so I can't speak for him, but I would probably get the marriage annulled because if I were to marry him I wouldn't want the wedding to be a Spencer and Ellie wedding; I would want a Matthew and Y/N wedding which is a completely different experience."
"Oh I bet it would be. Thank you for being here tonight."
I smiled, "Thank you for having me! I love talking about the prank."
"Y/N L/N everyone!"

Have you ever seen some text script display on the bottom of a video as you watch a movie? The writing texts are known as subtitles, but you can also call them annotations or captions. They are printed translation of the dialogue of a film or video. The subtitles are displayed on the bottom of the video so that they do not interfere or obstruct what you are watching. The commonly used subtitle formats include ASS, SSA, and SRT. Various reasons necessitate the adding of subtitles to MKV. Some of the advantages include:
They are useful in translating foreign language in the movie or video.
It is multilingual thus you can add your native language.
Subtitles can be helpful in transcribing dialogues for easier understanding.
Subtitles can be added as story narrator, clip narrator and caption maker.

You can import files by dragging them and dropping them into the primary window. Alternatively, you can navigate to the top left side of the primary window and click the +Add Files. From there you can locate your MKV file from a browse window that will popup.
Step 2 Add Subtitle to MKV Video.
After you have successfully imported the MKV video that you want to insert the subtitles, click the icon as below to go to the editing window. Go to the top menu and then click the Subtitle tab. From there, you can load the subtitle you want to use such as the SRT, SSA, and ASS using the Triangle button.
Once the subtitle is loaded, you can see it on the MKV video. A preset style will be used by default. You can also customize the color, font, position, size, transparency and any other setting that you want to change in your subtitle. Once you finish making the changes, click the Save button to confirm the settings.
Step 3 Choose MKV output format.
You can stick the subtitle permanently to your MKV video. Just go to the Convert all tasks to and choose the MKV as your output format from the drop-down list. You can also select a device to save your MKV video and play in it directly. Such devices include iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Android smartphone.
Step 4 Start the MKV conversion.
When you have followed all the necessary steps, you can now click the Convert All button to begin the conversion. Once the process is complete, the subtitles will be exported permanently to the specified video format in the Converted section.
Part 2. Add Subtitle to MKV via Apowersoft Video Converter Studio
Apowersoft Video Converter Studio supports the addition of subtitles to MKV videos and allows for various subtitle formats such as SSA, STR, and ASS. The detailed steps are as follows.
Step 1: Install and run the Apowersoft Video Converter Studio on your PC.
Step 2: Add the MKV files by clicking the Add Files button.
Step 3: Edit your MKV video by clicking the Edit button, which will take you to an editing window.
Step 4: Hit the Subtitle icon to add your desired subtitles to MKV video.
Step 5: You can make some adjustments to the added subtitle. For instance, you can change the height, color, position and font.
Step 6: After you comfortable with the settings, you just need to click the OK button.
Step 7: Lastly you can click the ConvertKsp mod manager for mac. button to save the MKV videos with the subtitles.
After trying both tools to add subtitles to MKV video, we noticed that Wondershare UniConverter (originally Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate) works better as it ensures that the subtitles are added permanently without corrupting the quality of the video, whereas Apowersoft interferes with the quality of the final file.
Nothing will ruin a movie quicker than terrible subtitles. They could be totally out of sync or badly translated. Luckily, there is software out there to correct subtitles, such as Subtitle Workshop. If you are keen to edit subtitles, either as an act of personal heroism to share with fellow viewers, or perhaps as part of your job as a translator, editor or sound engineer, then you may already be familiar with this program. It is a nifty application that allows you to edit and create subtitles online. Given the increasing access to quality foreign language films and TV series, this could be a great tool.
Sterling subtitle software for beginners
The ultimate subtitle software for beginners and professionals
Subtitle Workshop is a cross-platform and open-source program for editing, creating and converting subtitles. When it comes to quick, easy and ultra-effective subtitle software, this program is pretty hard to beat. It runs on over 60 platforms, it is highly customizable and best of all, it has an exceptional Preview Mode. According to the developer it has an 'intuitive interface' and 'must have features'. They will say that though! Does it live up to the hype? We’ll take you through some of the highs and look for the lows of this software, to see if it is the best subtitle program for you.
First of all the technology itself. The latest version (SubtitleAPI version 1.05) supports around 56 formats for subtitling, and it can handle both time and frame-based text. You are behind the controls of the timing, thanks to the feature allowing you to upload plain text files. Formats including DVDSubtitle, SAMI, Sonic Scenarist, SubStation Alpha, SubViewer 1 & 2 and TMPlayer are supported. You can read and write various styles and fonts (Wingdings being a possible exception!) so you can have fun and personalize your subtitles.
Subtitle Workshop is known for its famously friendly and intuitive user interface. It was certainly a breeze to install and the in-built features are clear and easy to navigate. If you need to hone in on getting that accurate dialogue and correct spelling, then the Translator Mode gives you spell check with Microsoft Word’s engine (you will need to have Word installed) and you can toggle the 'Insert' and 'Delete' keys for speedy subtitle correcting.
Download Subtitles For Free
If you want to check your progress, simply fire up the Preview Mode, a great feature rare in these programs. In this mode, you can customize the subtitles down to the last 't' – choose the color, perfect the position and even the width of the shadow of the subtitles.
The stylistic corrections are made smooth by the powerful settings. Keep your edits a different color or font style to mark your changes. Browse the configurations and make your editing a walk in the park with the customizable automated checks. In a nutshell, this software will let you tailor make your subtitles down to the spacing, position, color font and more. It is simple, powerful and free. What is there not to like?
At the time of writing, Subtitle Workshop will not allow you to edit Chinese, Japanese or Korean subtitles (although Arabic has now been added).
Where can you run this program?
Subtitle Workshop is a cross-platform software. It is primarily used for Windows. With the trend towards mobile there is talk of developing a version for iOS and Android smartphones but this is still in the pipeline. As for the formats supported by Subtitle Workshop, it has to be handed to them that outside of the mega expensive programs used by companies this all-in-one package supports an impressive 60 plus subtitle formats.
Is there a better alternative?
While Subtitle Workshop is one of the best known and best-loved apps for efficient, highly configurable and (intuitive) editing, it is not the best. For lightning fast processing and feature-rich subtitle tools for your armory, then check out MovieCaptioner and FinalSub. They both have a commercial license, they run on Windows and MacOS and each one supports a variety of formats. Be prepared to pay the price however, these professional programs don’t come cheap. For budget alternatives, Oona Tools can be used for outsourcing your subtitles and translations for both professional and personal use. For a totally free option, check out fellow freeware N!kse.se Subtitle Edit. This is basically just like Subtitle Workshop but with more enhanced and complex features. Aegisub and Sublight also deserve honorable mentions.
Our take
With the giants of Netflix and others dominating our living rooms, unwinding in front of a movie or TV series is becoming a pretty cherished part of the evening. With access to cinema from around the world, bad subtitles are holding us back from some epic foreign language options. With Subtitle Workshop you can take ownership of the subtitles yourself. Creating subtitles is made easy, thanks to the automated timing corrections, in-built spell checker and the highly useful preview mode. Whether you are looking for software for personal or professional use, this is a great program for creating bespoke subtitles in a stream-lined and intuitive interface. Plus, you can share them with the world afterwards.
Should you download it?

Subtitle Workshop 6
Yes. If you are looking to create or edit subtitles for video, then Subtitle Workshop is a fantastic and comprehensive program. The controls are easy to use, and the user manual is a great guide for beginners. Professionals needing more complex features should look at alternatives like Subtitle Edit, but for the simple subtitle creation, this ticks all the boxes. Go ahead and download it and see for yourself.

Automating SSAS script only backups with C# for Tabular and Multi-Dimension Models
Automating SSAS script only backups with C# for Tabular and Multi-Dimension Models
I was recently asked to create a SQL job to automate the backing up of our SSAS cubes from several servers but unlike the standard SSAS backups, the business didn’t want the data backed up, they only wanted the schema/code as they needed daily backups. The full backup with data would have used up too much space.
Initially, I thought it’d be a piece of cake, just had to Google it, right (while…

GARVEZ STORIES
PART 7 (Epilogue)
He managed not to think even once about her all morning. Of course, he doesn’t expect karma to punish him with such a show. She who speaks quietly with his boss, with Hotch and this man is also doing a half smile, but most of all Morgan's hand lies on her shoulder and she doesn’t seem to bother, at all. They are too friendly to believe she has just met them.
Some piece starts to fall into its place. But he doesn’t know if he wants to see the final image.
Penelope catches her eye as she enters the meeting room. She is radiant, there is something different in her, but the moment she falls into his eyes, a shadow passes in front of her. She seems guilty.
-A moment of attention.- Hotch begins with a solemn tone. She is right next to him. The rest of the team, unaware, takes a seat around the round table. -I am pleased to inform you that we have a new member. After the success of the Georgeson mission, the Bureau officially proposed SSA Penelope Garcia as an expert in sexual crimes, as well as a computer technician from BAU.- many people smile, but she is able to see only him. Totally in shock, though perhaps he had always known. There was something odd about such a naive prostitute...
Unable to restrain himself, realizing the extent of his actions in the light of the truth, he leaves the meeting room in a flash, before saying or doing some other crap.
And she follows him, without thinking about it for a moment, further disconcerting her new colleagues. -Luke, wait. Stop.- the man does it, but doesn’t turn around, he continues to give her his back. -I couldn’t tell you. I had to follow the protocol... it was an operation in progress for too many years. I couldn’t...- she repeats keeping to a safe distance, just a step or two. And thank goodness, since he turns around and his eyes piercing her, almost the same doing an X-ray, or rather an autopsy.
-Who knew, besides Hotch?- she says nothing. -Morgan?- a silence that is valid as confirmation. -And the others? JJ, Reid, Prentiss, Rossi?- finally she shakes her head. A laugh, bitter and full of suffering, escapes him. -It was all a sham. Did you chose me on purpose? I congratulate you on the story, because I really believed it, that your Spanish literature professor had raped you and then you started prostitution. And that you were one of the victims of the ripper.- he applauds in a very theatrical way. Apart from the two of them, there's no living soul around.
-That part was real.- she replies in a low voice, not sure he wants her to hear it. It's bad. The man takes her by the wrists and drags her behind a door, which turns out to be a small room for brooms. Even the Bureau's offices need to be cleaned, every so often. They are too tight and too close.
-Say it again.- he orders peremptorily, fixing her carefully in the light of the only rickety light bulb.
-Those things are true. It really happened to me. That's why I insisted that I be assigned the Ripper case. In all likelihood I was his first victim, but he was still too inexperienced and unfortunately made mistakes.- Luke can’t help but notice that she has said unfortunately as if she would had preferred to be killed. -Maybe if he would been able to killed me, he wouldn’t have killed other people. He would have been satisfied.- she also clearly refers to Sheyla, his children's mother; but she doesn’t even believe it. -Anyway, it was something that I had to close. I would be better off if I knew he was dead, but I will be content to know that he is in jail.- he has already begun to yield. He would have to find a way to tell her everything, he would help her, but he still respects her decision.
He caresses her cheek and she realizes that her dark eyes are again in the shape of a little heart. -I'm sorry for what I said. Only... I wonder if there was something serious between us, or was part of the script, served to strengthen the part and if you had already planned to break my heart. How is it that they call them in our field? Side effects.- His tone is sweet and calm, but the things he says are anything but peaceful and harmless.
-No, you weren’t in the plan. I just had to pretend to be a prostitute to lure him into a trap, but then he killed that little girl, she was only fourteen... and I almost ruined everything by getting caught and testifying at the trial. I knew he wouldn’t recognize me. I was very different... at the time of the facts. And I was wearing a wig with long raven hair.- she almost laughs. -Then luckily there was a screen... anyway I needed to see him in the face to remind me of the reason why I had thrown away a whole year, losing unrepeatable events.- the air begins to lack in this narrow space.
-Then? Did you really fall in love with me? And you pretended to betray me so you could finish the mission.- she nods twice and he smiles. He believes to her. He begins to lean in her direction, dropping various objects arranged on wall shelves.
-Wait.- she stops him. -There's something else you need to know.- Luke trembles.
-You're not going to tell me you're married.- he still tries to joke.
-No!- she reassures him. -Is that...- she doesn’t know how to tell him. -When the ripper raped me... I got pregnant.- she looks down, can’t hold his look, it is clear that she feels partly responsible. -Completing the pregnancy endangered my life, but I felt I had to do it. And now I can no longer have other children, the organs have been too damaged...- he gently lifts her chin.
-What is her name?- he only asks.
-Hope.-
 LPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPLPL
 -I risked really doing that end, after Professor Kenton...- she omits to repeat it, turning the new ring that rests on the ring finger, so small and simple shapes, different from those to which she was accustomed.
Without moving even minimally, Luke continues to caress her hair. -Why?- he asks, to show her that he is attentive to what she says.
-I don’t know. Fear of not making it. Shame. But I went back up the slope. And I met you.- she reaches out to kiss him.
-Bleah!- exclaims the boy covering his eyes with his hands. They both giggle. Then Adam gets serious. -Pen, Hope is waiting for you to come up and tell her a story.- the woman nods and reluctantly breaks away from her husband's warm body. With the awareness that in less than twenty minutes she will feel it next to her. Luke lets out a short chuckle while following with his eyes Penelope climb the stairs, driven by his son. It was not easy to get to this point, to reconcile their work with two children to grow, to explain the truth to the oldest one... but with so much effort, they did it.
And even if he doesn’t even admit it under torture, Adam loves to hear the stories of Penelope. And also he adores to feel two breaths over his head, four pairs of hands tucking the covers to him and that little sister that is fell from the sky.
This story is ended. Thank you for reading! ^^
