"If you've told a child a thousand times, and the child still has not learned, then it is not the child who is the slow learner." - Walter Barbe 1977
When there's an underlying condition that has not been identified and needs are therefore unmet, you can tell a child the same thing a million times and their behavior won't change.
What WILL change their behavior is understanding the root cause and figuring out strategies that will address their underlying unmet needs... then, helping them apply those strategies.
But getting upset because they "aren't listening" is unproductive and will likely lead to increased frustration all around.
Also, as they say... insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

These are THE BEST Autism Ear Defenders out there!! As Autism also comes with sensory processing disorder, there are many things that we need to consider to make sure that autistic people do not get triggered. One of the main things is to make sure that the noise levels of potentially triggering and anxiety ridden moments are reduced. The best and most tried and tested version of this is to use a defenders. Now I have tried out a bunch of different ones so I have put three of the best options down below. 1.Air Pod Pros Apple brought out a line of noise cancelling headphones in the form of their AirPod pros. These are fantastic small compact and amazing for travelling and they work so well for cancelling out noise. 2.Bose 35s My all-time favourite noise cancelling headphones are the Bose headphones. These ones black out everything and I just absolutely fantastic, the only downfall is that they are a little bit bulky to carry when travelling. 3.Child Ear Defenders The classic ear defenders are probably the most effective for children on the autism spectrum as they are small compact and very durable and do the job perfectly well. Please let me know if you have anything to add to this conversation by leaving a comment below. I read every single one! Also follow @TheAspieWorld for more autism content. Sensory Integration Therapy
Tumblr media
Children with sensory integration dysfunction frequently experience problems with their sense of touch, smell, hearing, taste and/or sight. Along with this they often face difficulties in movement, coordination, and sensing where one’s body is in a given space. This is a common disorder for individuals with neurological conditions such as an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Individuals may be overly sensitive to certain textures, sounds, smells and tastes, while wearing certain fabrics, tasting certain foods or normal everyday sounds may cause discomfort. All parents are requested to read.
All parents are requested to read. Every new parent and parent of a child with autism or ADHD or any other special needs child needs to know about this sensory processing. All children with autism will have sensory processing sensitivity, but not all children with sensory processing disorder are autistic. Many people think that sensory processing sensitivities are only available for children with…

My face when I'm overstimulated because the lights, the computers, the electricity, the servers, the HVAC, and other random office sounds are somehow penetrating pretty good active noise cancelation while in the QUIET lunch room. Streaming now @rosemary_richings earlier in November sat down on a Sunday afternoon to chat to me about all things dyspraxia a condition I seen her make awareness and advocacy content for a while and knew I had to get on to explore that. Good timing too as this year she has released her first book this September on the topic of dyspraxia published with @jkpbooks in the podcast episode description link to buy the book is included. We also chat about a muscle condition dysautotomia which she has been diagnosed with and sensory processing disorder as with possible adhd and autism. #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #dyspraxia #dcd #spd #sensoryprocessingdisorder #dysautonomia #autism #autistic #adhd https://www.instagram.com/p/CmC0YhfMyTS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

etude house's sunprise mild sunscreen spf50+++ 🌥
finding sensory-okay skincare products has been a life-long journey. since i was a wee baby any sort of lotion or cream or balm has been a sort of a nightmare and has taken some getting used to even when not. as well as my autism-related sensory needs i also have very sensitive skin (allergic to everything and also eczema). sunscreen is probably THE hardest skin product to find-they usually always smell like banana or coconut for some reason? and tend to leave a sludgy white cast no matter how hard you rub. here enters my GOD TIER sunscreen, sunprise! it smells like nothing (as it should be)! it absorbs quite easily into the skin, and it does not make you look shiny. there's two different textures too so you can find the best one for you: watery and airy. airy is my fave at the minute but i would recommend either because honestly spf 50+++ and it feels creamy and delicious and light? 10/10
psa: everyone's sensory and accessibility needs are different but i think it's helpful to get recs from neurokin :) i found this recommendation through a youtube video by @yosamdysam and i have never looked back! my autistic flatmate also tried on the other day and was impressed!
ID: light blue background. a light green sunscreen bottle with a white cap is centered. it reads ETUDE sunsprise MILD watery light spf 50++++ PA++++ the design is very calm and relaxing.

Reposted!!! @sensorystoriesbynicole I love this analogy. Our "communication differences" are just that, differences. We speak the same language, just with a different accent. Yet, somehow our accent is considered problematic while the neurotypical version is considered "correct." Make it make sense. Credit: @at_psychologist Tweet transcription: #Autism is like having another native language: I can speak 'neurotypical' (but with an autistic accent) while the neurotypical person isn't even aware of multiple languages. They classify my accent as a disorder, while I'm the only one speaking both languages. #sensorystories #sensorysupport #sensorylife #neurodiversity #neurodiversityacceptance #neurodivergent #neurodiversityawareness #autismawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorder #spdawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismsupport #autismeducation #autism #autismspectrum #positiveparenting #momssupportingmoms #parentingtips #positiveparentingtips #positiveparentingstrategies #specialeducation #specialeducationteacher #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #otforkids https://www.instagram.com/p/CibpXp0ILYe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What is the difference between an autism meltdown vs shutdown. We are covering all that right now! So autism comes with many intricate parts that create impacting issues for life with an autism spectrum condition. Some of these are meltdowns and shutdowns - but note that these are not the same thing. 1.An autism meltdown can be characterised by an emotional outburst of reaching the end of a sensory input overload. 2.When too many communication inputs are overloaded into an Autistc persons mind they will end up having an out bust which is seen as a meltdown, and can be noted as a feeling of despare hopelessness for that situation. 3.But with an autism shutdown, a person experiences the last straw of a situation they are trying to control and just gives up. 4.The giving up is a result of the lack of control and a lack of understanding for the situation they are currently presented in. 5.The person will be silent and docile with little to no input on the situation from that moment on. Please leave me a comment if you have anything to add to this, i read every single one. Also please follow @TheAspieWorld for more autism content.
