My autism meltdowns
This was on my mind today. Having autism means there may always be an issue that’s not easily resolved that tips me mentally over the edge.
Also dealing with anxiety means it’s easier for me to have meltdowns, particularly when it comes to me struggling to cope with an issue or situation that someone else sees as normal. My thinking has never been normal, around what my brain sees as intense responses to overwhelming situations. Those I fail to cope with every time.
For those of us who get to deal with meltdowns, rather than others judge us, it’s important they help us identify and minimise our meltdown frequencies. Our behaviour around autism will always make sense to us in the context of our experiences of the world and how our brain interprets what we see, but to others we’re seen as being intense.
When it comes to others dealing with us, they may interpret or assign meaning to our behaviour based on what our behaviour would mean were they engaged in our behaviour, but they will always arrive at the wrong conclusions thinking we’ve misinterpreted our circumstances wrongly.
But it’s not just an issue that creates my meltdowns. A meltdown by definition can occur by my routine simply being out of order. Because of autism everything I do must follow in its correct order. Through our presenting behaviour we’re often seen as intense, stubborn and un-cooperative.
What I’m simply trying to do is preserve my integrity in the predictable order of the world in the only context I have available to me through autism. It’s easy for those without autism to judge us, based on their opinions and conclusions of us and that’s not right or fair.

The journey will test you past your breaking points most times, but it’s all worth it to see progress in your child. The only social life I have is with the kiddo and fur babies. I don’t know what balance is within my own private life. I have no privacy whatsoever. I have to plan simple outings like grocery shopping, and that’s a major feat in itself! We live on routine and repetition. I eat healthy and the kiddo has the opposite diet because there’s only very limited types of foods he’ll eat, even though I consistently try to introduce better foods for him. But hey..if you want to clean up puke by telling me to “make” him eat the better foods..be my guest!🤷🏾‍♀️ No one can ever be prepared to have a child with special needs but he’s treated like any other typical child. He is my best gift I’ve been blessed with. Imagine how challenging it is doing this on your own with no strong support system because people don’t understand, nor try to understand what you truly endure each day..I know God gives me strength to endure each moment. What is the difference between an autism meltdown vs shutdown. We are covering all that right now! So autism comes with many intricate parts that create impacting issues for life with an autism spectrum condition. Some of these are meltdowns and shutdowns - but note that these are not the same thing. 1.An autism meltdown can be characterised by an emotional outburst of reaching the end of a sensory input overload. 2.When too many communication inputs are overloaded into an Autistc persons mind they will end up having an out bust which is seen as a meltdown, and can be noted as a feeling of despare hopelessness for that situation. 3.But with an autism shutdown, a person experiences the last straw of a situation they are trying to control and just gives up. 4.The giving up is a result of the lack of control and a lack of understanding for the situation they are currently presented in. 5.The person will be silent and docile with little to no input on the situation from that moment on. Please leave me a comment if you have anything to add to this, i read every single one. Also please follow @TheAspieWorld for more autism content. TRUE STORY!🐻 Today I had the “pleasure” of another person who was very ignorant and needed to educate themselves in regards to why my kiddo was having a meltdown. I don’t have to explain to you the difference between tantrums and an autism related meltdown. I was already on edge from being up all night and still haven’t slept yet. A word of advice..NEVER and I do mean NEVER EVER bypass the parent and speak directly to the child to give your two cents that wasn’t asked of you anyways. You’re liable to get your feelings deeply hurt when I’m in that state. Do you see the days of the week in colour? Do you see sound as colour? So synethesia is a neurological condition that can be diagnosed as part of an autism spectrum disorder or as a independent condition. Synethesia is characterised by the ability for a person to experience flashes of colour when hearing sound. Or a person may relate a certain colour to a certain word, phrase or set of words. I have this experience where I see the days of the week as certain colours and I also see the months as colours to. They all have different colours but they do have a relationship to each other, and a sort of feeling that accompanies each one of them. This condition is fascinating and also quite common in a person on the autism spectrum. Please leave a comment if you have anything to add, I read every single one. Also please follow @TheAspieWorld for more autism content. Video: https://youtu.be/iVm2jR51ijA?si=G4yjdfju6ovSH91Y https://bit.ly/3w8FvdI

These 3 secret hacks will help YOU with autism shutdowns, fast and effective! Autism shutdowns can be disabling and can leave you feeling exhausted fed up and drained of energy. Autism Shutdowns happen similarly to the reasons of an autism meltdown happening where you have over stimulation or an overload of information that causes this shutdown. It’s difficult to prevent a shutdown from happening because you were aware of the situation that’s going on but there are some things you can do to help lessen the impact to help you recover quickly from the shutdown and this is exactly what I’m talking about here. 1. Alert Someone ASAP Try to alert someone who are with as soon as possible to tell them you are not feeling good and a potential shutdown may occur. 2. Count In Your Head Try counting up from 1 or down from 100 in your head if you start to feel a shutdown coming on. This will help calm your mind and create focus. 3. Squeeze Fist And Breath Deeply A good tip is to squeeze your first tight to release that energy, then breath in for 5 seconds, hold it for 5 seconds then breath out for 5 seconds. Do this 5 times and you will feel so much calmer. If you have anything to ad to this please leave a comment below and also follow @TheAspieWorld for more content on autism.
