Don't close the box yet, I'm trying to read something with Kaito getting too many present for Christmas from the Precepts, and Kai putting them away.

I'm sure Kaito throws a fit. Nobody is on Chisaki's side...not even pops. Kaito is so spoiled 😭

"Almost there... aaand-" you stood on your tippy toes and cheered along with the 4 year old you were holding for him to finally manage to put the star on top of the tree while your husband only could arch an eyebrow.

It wasn't very common for him to celebrate Christmas. He just didn't see the appeal to it. Like... okay, you lie to children about a fat old guy who delivers presents to all the people in the world in one night; give more presents yourself to others; stay awake for unbelievable night hours instead of doing something productive and stuff your face with the "holidays type" of food.

But seeing his wide and son being all hyped up for the holiday warmed a bit his chest...

Until pops decided to spoil his son every single holiday ever.

The last Christmas since Kaito was born was like a huge pile of boxes of toys. Very LOUD and ANNOYING toys.

He could still remember the headaches combine with the countless nights of no sleep.

"Santa will come?"

"Well, you were a good boy the whole year so-" you bopper his nose as his eyes crossed to look at your finger until snickering a bit at your playfulness.

"I object. He was a brat." Kaito yelled a hey at his dad who didn't even sounded impressed at his son's reaction while you try it to maintain your giggles at bay.

He only sighed before standing up and going over the two of you as you gently put Kaito back down on his feet.

"Don't be such a grinch love, you can't deny is the time of the year where usually we are the kost kindest to others."

"Some people." He grumbled with a cold look as you caressed his covered cheek.

"Come on, just look at him." You moved your gaze towards to the boy who was checking if the cookies were rightfully placed on the plate for Santa Claus "the best part of having kids Kai is to see their joy... we can't assure if it will always be that way since the world isn't all sunshines... but seeing that innocence and happiness doesn't it make it all worth it the hours of decorating and other stuff?" You pointed out as you smiled at his usually cold and distant look turn into soft golden eyes filled with calmness and understanding.

"I suppose you're right." He sighed after a couple of seconds, uncrossing his arms and just leaving them both at his side "I just only can hope to not have certain elders spoil too much our-"

"MeRrY ChRIStMaS BItChES!" You both jumped at mimic literally busting the door open along with the rest of precepts.

"Uncle Chrono! Mimic!" Kaito wide smile at the sign, you sighed in relief that Kaito didn't catch the curse word... while Kai looked like he was about to kill every single person of that room asides you and his kid.

"I'm sorry for his manners master, young master and lady (Y/n)" Tengai and Nemoto bowed while speaking simultaneously while you waved your hands around and saying for them to cut the formality.

"We bought some fruit cake but..." Hojo was about to speak until Setsuno elbowed his other companion.

"Tabe ate it all before we stepped inside." The man whose name was spoken only lowered his head in a silent apology.

"Hey shrimp." Rappa kneeled down while giving him a nerf gun "There ya go. Shoot your old man."

"Wooooowww." Kaito eyes shined bright until he whined at his new toy being yanked off of him to only laugh at the sign of his father literally slamming the toy on Rappa's face as the man cussed him out.

"First of all, what are all of you here?" Chisaki spoke in a murderous silent voice as you walked towards him in hopes to calm him down before he overhauled someone in front of your son... again.

"The old man invited us." Chrono spoke simply while you and Kai widened your eyes "Said something about giving the kid more company... oh and he mentioned gifts too I guess."

"Of course he did." Kai groaned while face palming as you giggled at the sign of a four year old climbing rikiya as the man only smiled at the boy. "Where is even he at the moment?"

"Right here." The elder soon appeared and went to give you a hug first, totally ignoring Chisaki. "I hope I wasn't late to see my favorite grandson!"

"He is your only grandson..." Kai mentioned nimbly before groaning when Pops gave him a big box to hold as the elder went and grabbed the kid. "What is even this?!"

You only blinked at the sign of the room getting more crowded and hearing the commotion of it and clearly noticing your husband's distaste of all of it.

Yeah... long night ahead of you ...

After God knows how long it was, you pribed Kaito out of the chair, saying Tabe wasn't going to steal Santa's cookies. Despite the kid always proclaiming he was agrow kid he still insisted that he sitter on your lap to receive the presents to show you and his father who refuse to wipe the frown out of his face or to sit down in the ground.

"Uncle rappa gave me a nerf gun first." The kid mumbled while opening the next present with silver paper wrapped around it "Wow! A new action figurine!"

"That's mine actually." Chrono mentioned with a smirk as yououthed a thank you to him as Kai only glared at his childhood friend

"Thank you uncle!" Kaito gleamed in happiness.

You were getting a bit worried to the amount of gifts, you weren't going to lie. It was like when you gave birth to Kaito... too much presents. Yet you were still happy when all Kaito won he showed it to you with a pretty smile that reminded you a bit of your husband's rare one.

"Since when I gave you all the order to spoil rotten my kid?" Kai growled as the precepts tensed while Mimic, Chrono blinked and Pops only arched an eyebrow.

"Is Christmas."

"I'm putting these away." He growled while going to pick the other boxes that weren't open until he felt a tiny hand gripping his pants tight and when he turned to look... he found the usual calm son he had now with tears welling up in his (E/c) eyes with the biggest pout he ever saw.

"Please Dada.... I want to see what's inside..." the kid hiccups and he swore that was the first time ever on his life he felt the worst human on the planet.

"Way to go dude." Chrono mumbled until he flinched at the hard elbow connecting with his chest.

"Fine. But you better organize all these things and not leave it out here for me or your mother to pick it up." He growled but soon blushed crimson red at his son hugging his legs at the front of everyone. "Let go Kaito. Now is not the time."

"Overjerk is such a jellohead when he is with these two you notice?" Rappa mumbled to Tabe as the guy munched on some fried chicken.

The precepts had gone since they wanted to spend the holidays in other places, so it was only Chrono and Pops left.

"A choo-choo!" The boy exclaimed in glee as he held the new brand toy his grandfather had given him.

"A train with a remote controller.... pops how much money did you spend on this one even?" Kai asked almost in terror as the elder only chuckled and mumbled about letting the kid have fun.

"Mama look! It makes even a lil noise!" The boy pressed a button and it soon the sound of a train filled the room.

"Wow honey that's incredible! Did you thank granddad?" You smiled at your son when his eyes widened in realization as he zapped towards the elder to give him a hug for it.

"Awe is fine! I just wanted to see that boy's smile!" Pops chuckled while messing up the kid's hair

"Later you better not to blame me for this brat to be so spoiled." Kai growled only to soften up a bit as you rested your head on his shoulder and his son climbed back to sit between the two of you.

"I'm not spoiled. You are." The kid mumbled while nuzzling his face and hugging you the best he could with his little chubby arms.

"Pardon?"

"Grandpop and mommy said it. You're spoiled dad." The kid stared up at his dad in the most numb tone of voice he could ever muster as Chisaki glared daggers at the four year old boy as Chrono tried his best to not laugh and fail.

"... you do know you don't need to dress up as Santa right pops? Kaito doesn't need to see it." You mumbled to the elder while your two favorite boys discussed while the old man chuckled on his eggnog.

"Oh please I already have the costume. Chisaki won't do it but sure as heck I will."

"You do spoil Kaito a lot pops.." You chuckled as the elder smiled in triumph

"Parents are made to educate while grandparents are to spoil. That's the rule."

"I never heard of it!" You laughed as Pops chuckled.

"Well, now you do!"

Fluorine Could Boost Drug Efficiency - Technology Org

Adding fluorine: Rice University chemists’ iron- and sulfur-based reactions may lower fluorination costs.

When it comes to chemical reactions, fluorine has a reputation as a ‘magic bullet atom’ for its ability to increase a drug’s absorption and prolong its lifetime. However, traditional methods of adding it to compounds entail expensive materials and can be difficult to pull off.

Rice University scientists developed a reliable and cost-effective process of adding fluorine to molecules for increased pharmaceutical drug efficiency using an iron and sulfur reaction.

According to a study published in Nature Chemistry, the light-activated reaction can be used both to free up fluorine from carboxylic acids and to incorporate it into alkenes ⎯ common building blocks for pharmaceuticals and other chemical products. The chemical pathway developed by Rice researchers spells a new formula for easier, cheaper and more effective fluorination.

“The secret for many important drugs, from Prozac to Lipitor, is an atom called fluorine,” said Julian West, the Norman Hackerman-Welch Young Investigator and assistant professor of chemistry.

“When attached to drug molecules, this little atom can make the treatments act faster for longer and with fewer side effects. But it’s hard to attach fluorine when making drugs. Existing processes often require chemicals that are very expensive, dangerously reactive and that just don’t work very well.”

The West research group wondered if it could find a way to add fluorine to molecules through a cheap, efficient, safe process.

“This was a big, pie-in-the-sky idea when we started our research group in 2019, but we were feeling pretty confident we could do it after discovering that iron and sulfur can work together to create a kind of reaction called decarboxylation,” West said.

Unlike the noble metal starting materials used to synthesize molecules for various industries, more common elements like iron and sulfur are easily accessed, inexpensive and abundant around the world.

Earlier this year, the West research group found that when it shines light on iron and sulfur, they interact like rowdy bar patrons that erupt into a melee with enough energy to break apart carboxylic acid molecules, freeing up fluorine atoms for use elsewhere.

“Carboxylic acids are everywhere; they are cheap, available and hardy,” West said. “The problem is that their very stability makes them difficult to break into useful parts. If iron and sulfur could decarboxylate these common materials, making their fluorine atoms available, then we would be off to the races.”

Once the researchers determined how to free up the fluorine from these stable compounds, they next had to figure out how to reattach it in an effective and safe manner. Rice doctoral alum Yen-Chu Lu and chemistry graduate student Kang-Jie (Harry) Bian figured out that fluorinated carboxylic acids could react with alkenes, another common part of drug molecules.

“Alkenes are most commonly used to help put the drugs together because they can be transformed into many different things, like a foundation that more complex parts can be built on,” West said. “Yen-Chu and Harry determined the same iron and sulfur combination that cracked the carboxylic acid could facilitate attachment of the newly revealed fluorine fragment to alkenes.”

Not only is the new strategy fast, simple and safe, but it also seems applicable in a wide variety of uses.

“If you want to add a different fluorine piece, just put in a different carboxylic acid,” West said.

Lu and Bian worked with Rice graduate student Shih-Chieh Kao and undergraduates Xiaowei Chen and David Nemoto Jr. to stress-test the strategy.

“They really pushed this approach to its limits and haven’t yet discovered its boundaries,” West said. “The team did an amazing job, and I’m super lucky to have such creative coworkers in our group.”

Anyway, i have one funny request about Chisaki family, so, Kai come to pick up Kin from school and when they came home, Y/N finished with showering, and then Kin missed her and run into her to hug her and Y/N would open her arms to hug her back, since she missed her, and Kai would start panicking like "KIN YOUR MOTHER JUST TOKE A SHOWER, YOU WERE IN DIRTY SCHOOL, FIRST TAKE A SHOWER AND THEN U CAN HUG HER" and then woukd be too late cuz she is fast baby🤣🤣 and then Kai would probably make them shower for 1 hour or more LMAO. Have a nice day/night and tank you, if u can't do it, i understand <3<3<3<3

"What did you say?" He asked in pure venom while still maintaining eye contact with the files on his desk as Nemoto shivered on the spot. "You just can't pick her up?"

"I-I apologize master, but I was ordered to help your F-"

He sighed, interrupting the poor stuttering man on his front. Nemoto gulped at seeing his boss breath in slowly as his hands went from the desk to pinching the bridge of his nose as he got up from his seat.

"Then go." He muttered while grabbing his coat and wearing it while picking up a small handkerchief and a bottle of alcohol in gel "If it were orders from the old men himself, I won't interfere... for now. You better not mess up Nemoto."

"I w-won't sir! You can count o-on me!" The men bowed as Chisaki merely glared at the man before storming out.

Usually you were with Kaito on his classes right now of self defense so obviously you couldn't pick Kin, so he trusted that responsibility with Nemoto, since he aparently was the most trustful to have Kin on his hands, at least for a short period of time.

But since that wasn't the case now. He had to go to that place infected with all sorta germs he couldn't even imagine of. The mental image brought him already shivers to the hairs of his arm and head to stand up.

He merely shaked his head as he started the engine, and went outside of the house with his car to the cursed destination.

"Hey! Chi-chan!" The girl itself sighed loudly before looking at her smug classmate with a shining ball on her hand she could only assume it was electricy.

"What now?"

"My quirk is getting better and better each day! Where is yours huh?" The other girl behind the blonde one giggled as Kin scoffed.

"I dont have a quirk. I got that from my mama." The other laughed loudly as the blond one pointed at her.

"You're so pathetic Chisaki-chan! Not only you are from a bad family, but doesn't even have what everyone on earth have!"

Before Kin could do something a smile appeared on the golden eyed girl as she picked her back and waved at the black car.

"What now stupid?"

"Is my papa over there Sakura chan." Kin smiled devilish "And if you dont leave me alone, he is going to cut all your fingers out."

The girls skin tone went pale and just to get worst, a man with a black tuxedo and a green jacket got out of the car with looks that could kill.

The group screech and went screaming after their parents as Kin giggled before jumping happily at the direction of her father.

"Hi papa!" Chisaki patted her head before changing his glove for a new one "I thought that uncle Nemoto was going to pick me up?"

"Well, not this time. Get in the car, we're going home." He opened the door as the girl climbed up.

"You dont always have to be so formal papa! I know you're just a squish marshmallow when is just me, big brother and mama!"

"Tsk." He started the car, trying to ignore the warm on his cheeks.

"Home at last.." he sighed in relief while helping Kin to take off her shoes and put them on the right place.

"Oh look who is home already!" Your voice echoed on the hallway and he tried not to blush at your figurine.

Sure, you were only wearing shorts and a shirt, hair wet as you dried a little bit with a towel as Kaito picked his head out and waved at the two.

Gosh you just looked so beautiful...

"MAMA!" The scream of his daughter almost let him deaf as she jumped and went running after you and Kaito.

His heart beat stopped.

"KIN CHISAKI DO NOT DARE. YOUR MOTHER AND BROTHER JUST CLEANED THEMSELFS GO TAKE A BATH THEN YOU CAN DO THIS!" he shouted and the girl stopped inches away from as she looked at her father over her shoulder.

She took a tiny step forward as he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Don't." He growled.

Another step.

"I'm warning you little miss." He pointed his gloved finger at her as you tried to not laugh at the situation.

Another step from her.

"Kin Chisaki I swear to God-"

"HUG!" she yelped while hugging your waist as you giggled and heard your husband muffle his screams on his gloved before yanking Kin by her armpits as she laughed.

"You, go take another bath. Now."

"Now now, arent you being a little too paranoid about this?" You pointed out as he only glared at you with a squirming giggling toddler on his hands.

You sighed while putting your hands up in defeat.

"Good. And you-!" He pointed at his son whose widened his eyes at the sudden mention "Go take a shower, I can see your sweat over here Kaito."

"BUT DAD-!"

"No buts." He hissed while dragging Kin to the bathroom "For crying out loud no one in this house knows how to get rid of dirty neither take care I swear to Go-" he grumbled while entering the room.

Kaito and you just exchanged glances before you giggled at one question your son made.

"Ma why did you marry Dad?

A/N: Ya’ll wanted a part two well here you go :) again thank you @yandereacademia for letting me use they’re headcanon to make this story! Also the original plot is changed for the stories sake.

 2 months after you talked to your son

You still didn’t have the motivation to move. Only to go to the bathroom and maybe, MAYBE eat. What was the point in it all? Everything that kept you going in life was ripped away from you by the man known as Overhaul. He took away Eri and he took away your son. Well he took away your used to be son. 

Once you found out that he was apart of Eri’s experiments you were distraught. The little boy you once knew was nothing but a monster walking in his father's shoes. And to think that this thing was from your own flesh and blood and doing such horrific things to a sweet innocent girl.  

Both men came in once and awhile to see if you had any side effects from the test drug that they had given you. Long term or short term they just made sure to check. They soon noticed that your condition was slowly decreasing by the lack of sleep, water, and food you had.

You were a shell of your former self. If you looked in the mirror you were sure you wouldn’t be able to recognize yourself. You looked like a ghost. It was disturbing to see your once happy exterior turn into husk of a human. 

The worst part of this nightmare was not knowing what they we’re doing to Eri. Where they still making the bullets? Did they finally stop hurting her? You unfortunately got your answer once you heard Mimic talking about how they we’re so close to making a million bullets.

They had started the horrific experiments when she was six. She was 15 now so knowing that for 9 year they continued hurting her made your stomach turn. All you wanted to do was escape out of this prison and run to her, tell her that your here and that everything will be okay. That you’ll protect her from the monsters that surround her. 

The thought of Eri made you tremble in guilt. If only you were strong enough to protect her. Strong enough to run, run and never look back. You would never have to see the monsters that plague your dreams everyday. Never have to see your own flesh and blood turn even more into a monster than he already was.

All of a sudden your bedroom door slammed open and out popped Overhaul standing in the doorway with hives all over his skin and anger in his eyes. His gloved hands curled into fists as he stomped his way over to your spot in the corner.

“Where the fuck is Eri?!” He had grabbed you by the arm and yanked you up to your feet where he looked at you with his gold orbs. His grip on your arm hurt and you could feel his fingers digging into your flesh.

“I don’t know what your talking about-” A painful hit to the cheek is what you were met with when you let those few words out.

“Don’t fucking lie! Where is she damnit!” His fingers dig deeper only causing you to writhe in pain and whimper.

“I-I really don’t know! I haven’t left this room in 2 weeks!” You try to calm him down by telling him the truth but it seems like that wasn’t enough for him.

“If you don’t tell me the truth right now you end up being a bloody puddle on the floor.” You were about to retort back but soon realized something. If he killed you, you wouldn’t have to live this lifestyle anymore. Eri escaped and seems like she hasn’t been caught. That means the only thing you wished for has come true. So what's the point in staying here longer when your surrounded by people who hate you.

“I. Don’t. Know.” With a growl, Overhaul ripped off his glove and right when he was about to kill you, Nemoto came running in to tell the boss ‘good news’.

“We’ve found Eri! Last saw her down 2nd street!” Your face contorted in horror before you were thrown to the ground as Kai ran towards Nemoto and out the door. 

Your body collapsed onto the carpeted floor before the sound of the door slamming shut made you whimper in fear. Your lifeless eyes scan around the room before a chuckle left your throat as tears of joy begin to roll down your cheeks.

“She escaped, I’m so happy...thank you...” Even in the dark room that you called your home, a little ray of happiness shined through the covered windows knowing Eri had escaped from this horrible place.

“They caught her again. She back at the compound. Overhaul told me to tell you.” You felt your soul break at the horrible news you were told. You knew something bad was gonna happen when you saw that your ‘son’ opened the door in the corner of your eye. 

Seeing him makes you wanna throw up. Your once sweet boy had turned into a monster just like his father. He even made him tell you the horrible news that Eri was captured again. You knew there was gonna be a punishment waiting for her. You just hoped it wasn’t to bad but knowing Overhaul you didn’t know what to expect. Tears escaped down your face, your face still blank. Empty.

The silence was suffocating for the both of you. You could feel your sons presence still at the door. He was watching you. Watching as your unmoving body had tears spilling from your eyes. Watching as your hope was crushed once again. You couldn’t take it anymore. You couldn’t take the pain and suffering that was this life. You just wanted to end it all. Maybe death would be your only escape. The only thing stopping you was Eri. You just wanted to make sure that before you even do something like that, you wanted her to be in a safe haven. But it seems like even she can’t have that.

He had no words to say. What could he say to you? You had fully disowned him and looked at him with disgust. Looked at him like he was someone unworthy of love. You would always give Overhaul that look. The look of pure hatred. And now he was also on the receiving end of that look. 

He hated it. Who were you to tell him what he couldn’t do? You weren’t there for him when-...oh..yeah...He remembered. He remembered the day where he ‘disowned’ you. He can still remember the look of pure heartbreak that shown through your eyes when he said those words. 

He also remembered the cries of heartbreak that he heard on the other side of the wall. It kept him up a lot. Nightmares had plagued his dreams ever since the day you had disowned him. Your words repeated inside of his mind. Over and over again. 

His nightmares were always the same. He’d be walking on some sort of street while it was raining. His feet making the puddles splash. His raincoat making pattering noises as the rain slipped off it. 

He’d walk past a house and turn his head to look at it. It was a beautiful house, the grass lush and green with flowers planted right next to the house. No paint was chipped. The roof tiles were in perfect condition, not a single one missing. 

Inside the window there was you. Holding a baby while singing to it. Rocking it gently back and forth. Singing the same song you use to sing to him when he was young. He remembered the tune so vividly but could not remember the words. Only the tune. 

He walked up to the window to look inside of it, there sat a man. He didn’t recognize him at all. At least not where he was standing. The rain blurred his vision as it pounded against the glass window. He watched as the man got up from his seat on the couch to walk over to you and press a kiss to your cheek. He could hear your entire conversation.

“She’s so cute. What do you think she’ll turn out to be like?”

“Whatever she wants to be. I’ll support her all the way through. Give her all the love she deserves.” You gave the baby girl a kiss on the head, causing the baby to make grabby hands at you.

“I’m sorry about your son. He was gone too early.” What? No he didn’t! He was right here! He begin banging on the windows, begging for your attention.

“I’m not dead! Mom! I’m right here! Please! I’m sorry!” Tears would show through his eyes he felt a burning pain in his hands. His hands were gone. They chipped away, only leaving him with stumps.

“He doesn’t matter. He was a monster. A monster undeserving of my love. I’d never love someone like him.”

Then he would wake up.

He snapped outta it before looking at you once again. Still in the same spot as always. Letting out a sigh he begin to talk.

“I’ll...I’ll get you your food-”

“I want nothing from you. Nothing from you is worth eating. I’d rather starve than take anything you give me. Now get the fuck out of my room you monster.” Letting out a shaky exhale, he slowly closed the door. Watching as you didn’t make a move to look at him. Just as he closed the door Overhaul had appeared before him.

“What was her reaction?”

“She cried.”

“Of course she would have. Know this (S/N), never let anyone get close to you. It only leads to heartbreak and pain. Plus it’s annoying. Do you understand me child?”

“Yes Overhaul.”

“Good. Now come along, Eri’s about to get tested.” Nodding his head, he followed his father, following exactly in his footsteps.

1 week later

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The sounds of pounding on the walls woke you up from your slumber as you carefully maneuver yourself to take a peek out into the hallway. Your eyes widened when you see Overhaul subordinates running fast as they can down the hall and away from what seems like the front door.

Worry fills your being as you begin to move your head all around seeing if Overhaul was anywhere before making a mad dash to Eri’s room. Your footsteps echoing off the walls as tears brim at your eyes at the thought of seeing Eri again. 

You went as fast as your week body could carry you. Feeling light headed from exercise since it’s been to long. But you would push through it. Push through it just to see Eri one more time.

“Eri?! Eri! Eri are where are you?!” You make it to her room before noticing that her door was already unlocked and opened. You wipe open the door before your met with an empty room. Your heart prayed for the best. Hoping that she had somehow escaped.

“Ma’am put your hands up!” You turn your head to see hero’s...

HERO’S!

You cried as you collapsed to your knees as you gave the best smile you could. Tears of joy spilled down your cheeks. You were saved. Saved from this nightmare that stole your life away.

“I don’t think she’s apart of this. Look at her, she looks so malnourished. Not to mention she seems happy to see us. Do you think that she was also a prisoner of Overhaul?”

“By the looks of her most likely. Get her to safety.”

“Wait! Please let me see Eri! Is she okay?! Please tell me she’s okay!”

“We’re going to get her ma’am don’t worry! We promise she’ll be okay!” A man came near you and gently took your hand while you slowly used your strength to get up.

“Let’s take her to safety.’

“Not yet! I wanna help!”

“Ma’am please-”

‘You said you're looking for Overhaul right?”

“Yes?”

“Well he has a son. His quirk is the same as him so you need to be careful. Overhaul has trained him to be just like him.”

“How do you know this?”

“He was my son before I disowned him. I don’t count him as a son. He was also part of the experiments that took place on Eri! Please arrest them all!” The hero’s looked shocked at your information but nodded their heads.

You were taken out of the compound where hero’s stood surrounding it. Most likely making sure that no one escaped through the front or back door. You could hear the sounds of the warfare inside the compound while you were outside.  You crossed your fingers, begging for the hero’s to win and for Eri to be safe. And for those two men to be under arrest.

You were driven to the hospital before you got to see the ending of the fight ( a few days later)

You sat in the hospital bed with an IV in your arm. Trying to get you a bit more hydrated. You let out a sigh before a knock came at your door.

“Come in.” You move your eyes to see the door slowly opening before A familiar face showed behind it.

“Eri!” You sat up quickly and outstretched your arms and she came running into them. Tears of joys started falling down both of your cheeks. You hug her with all the strength you have and begin petting her head before placing a kiss on the top of her head.

“I miss you so much (Y/N)...Overhaul...he told....he told me you died...”

“Well there’s no need to worry Eri. I’m here with you right now and that’s all the matters. Those monsters won’t hurt you ever again. I’ll make sure of it.”

“Y-your son...he got arrested too...”

“That monster is not my son. If I would have anyone as a child I would rather it be someone I’m proud to call my own. Someone who’s stronger than all the heros combined. Someone like you Eri.” Eri started to cry in your hold. Hugging you tightly. The smile on your face never leaving as you weave your fingers through her hair gently. 

“I missed you so much Eri. I’m so sorry that those monsters put you through that hell.”

“I missed you too. Promise you’ll never leave me?”

“I would never dream of it.”

“Miss (Y/N), I have some news about Overhaul and your son.” You felt Eri tense in your hold. Hugging you like the world would end if she let go of you.

“They were attacked on the bridge to Tartarus by the league of villains. They seemed to have some sort of feud before getting arrested because they’re attack was only towards them.”

“Well, what happened then?”

“Shigaraki Tomura, the Leader of the LoV, has taken both your sons, and Overhauls hands. They were lucky we got there i time or else they would have died of blood loss.” Your eyes widened at the nurses words before she spoke to you once more.

“Would you like to see them before they get put in solitary confinement? You only get this chance once for now.” Your breath hitched before you turn your attention towards Eri. You both look at one another before she spoke softly.

“You should go. Ask them if they’re finally happy. Ask them if it was worth it.” You sigh before turning your head to the nurse.

“Okay what time do I leave?”

“Right now.”

At Tartarus

You took a deep breath as you looked around the room. You were walked in with two guards as they brought you to the visiting area of the prison. Your heart felt like it was beating at 100 miles per hour. 

You sat at the table looking around while you waited for them to bring out your son. Your nails tapping against the surface of the table. Your mind drifted on what were the words to say. You didn’t know what to say. You were hyping yourself up the whole way here but now that you arrived all of your idea’s left your mind.

You heard the door opening and you turned your head to see your son walking towards you. They were right. The better look you got at him the more you realize that they’re was no longer a difference between Overhaul and your son. Right down to the golden eyes and the lack of limbs.

“You get 20 minutes.” He sat down across from you on the table. His eyes refusing to look into yours. 

“Look at me. I said look at me (S/N). I’m not going to ask again.” Your voice strict as your voice rings in his ears. He slowly lifted his head to look into yours. He saw someone he used to know. Your skin had started to glow again like it once did when he was young. Your eyes held emotion inside them instead of emptiness. You looked like his mother.

“Mom-”

“(Y/N)”

“...(Y/N), why...why are you here? I thought you would never want to see me or Overhaul again.”

“Was it worth it (S/N)? Was all the torture you put Eri through worth all this? Worth the 3 life sentences you have against you?” Your voice was harsh. Your words felt like fire against his heart. He knows he deserves everything your here to bring him. Every single thing.

“No...” You were taken aback by his honesty. He said it so quick with no hesitation. But you still had more questions that you had to ask.

“Why wasn’t it worth it? Is it because you got caught?” You put up a front of spikes that made his lip quiver. He knew crying would only lead to you thinking he was faking it. So he tried to hide it, but you could tell he was trying not to.

“Why wasn’t it worth it?”

“I lost everything that day. I lost my limbs, I lost my freedom, I lost any idea of ever living a normal life. And....”

“ANd what?” Tears started spilling down his face, landing on the table and forming a little puddle.

“And I lost you...I’m so sorry...please forgive me mother. I promise I’ll be better...please...” He finally broke down in tears in front of you. His whole body shaking as this was probably the first time he cried in years. 

“You’ve lost your chances. You lost them the day I found out you were apart of Eri’s experiments. You are undeserving of forgiveness. What can you even do that would make me even think about forgiving a monster like you?”

“I don’t know....”

“That’s what I thought. You aren’t my son, your nothing but a monster.” You stand up before waving an officer, signalling you were done.

“Please don’t go yet...”

“Goodbye (S/N), maybe someday, or in another life, I’ll be you mother again. Someday I would be proud to call you my son. But until then, your his son. Not mine.” You turn your back to him before walking out the visiting rooms doors never looking back.

How you met the shie hassaikai boys!

Overhaul

Your father was a leader of an Irish mafia that had been becoming a global power amongst smaller gangs. One day your father had taken you to do business with him like he normally did because he wanted you to know and understand how to do them because you were next in line and being a quirkless teen, you had nothing else to do, no friends, nothing. So you just did stuff to benefit the whole operation. Sitting down with the Shie Hassaikai, you met chisaki, and the whole meeting he seemed to be infatuated by you, gaining the information that you were quirkless made him want to know so much more about you.

Hari kurno

owned a animal shelter and where out looking around town, usually on your walks you found a animal or two to take home or bring home. Hari saw you in tears and him not being a total prick, went up to you. further asking you what's wrong and ending up helping you take home the box of small puppy's that you found. You ended up healing him and of course he was in awe, you had a warm bubbly personality that shined through and a love for all the animals you had been fostering. he ended up playing with all of the dogs and other animals you had there for the rest of the afternoon and coming back for many more.

Kendo Rappa

Your father had been a fighter, it was a good source of income and kept a roof over your head. You worked at the club slinging drinks and food, Being a younger teen, 16 you had a lot of older clientele that had been a little too up close and handsy with you but it was nothing you couldn't fight off, you needed this job, you helped pay rent and utilities alongside your father. One night a larger man had approached you and was a little bit too lovey-dovey with you, Kendo saw this and couldn't have it, a small little person being harassed like this in their place of work made kendo need to step in. So he ended up saving your ass and you were awestruck by him, the rest of the night you two talked and ended up swapping numbers to stay in contact.

Deidoro sakaki

You were performing with your band at a local bar that had a pretty good turnout. Sakaki was just showing up in the middle of your set and was stopped dead in his tracks when he saw you getting the crowd that was fairly large hyped up and you singing your heart out. your charismatic personality drew him in and your talent of course, so after the set, he went up to you to ask you if you were ok with him buying you a drink. You took his offer and talked the rest of the night till it was closing time and you both exchanged numbers and met up time and time again at the same bar

.Shin Nemoto

You were taken in by overhaul and Nemoto was instructed to have you been training and working with him. He liked the way you were bubbly and honest about your feelings, you made him feel comfterble around you and had him at a point where he could start to open up about things, he never had found it with any other person and found that you being able to do it made you special.

Hekiji Tengai

You where in a park on a sunny afternoon, you where painting the wide array of flowers that covered the vast majority of the park. Tengai frequented the park, it was not very popular and had a very nice and quite vibe. Seeing you there was a blessing upon him, you sitting there, peacefully enjoying nature in all its glory, painting and capturing it all with your beautiful painting. He had to admire your work up close, so he approached you and the two of you ended up talking till dusk. Frequent visits from the both of you at the park made a connection grow.

Toya Setsuno

You where a childhood friend, you went through a lot with him and he ended up leaving suddenly once he got with his girlfriend, her taking away him from you hurt a lot, he was your only friend and when you heard about his attempt at suicide, you had to find him, after finding him you never let go again.

“It’s all your fault.” 

Nemoto hadn’t even spared a glance at the man beside him, but Sakaki acknowledged him anyway. “Nuh-uh.”

Nemoto tensed slightly. “Yes, it is your fault.”

“Pfft, I just looked away for one second and the guy slipped away.”

“It was not one second.” Nemoto shut his eyes while involuntarily recalling the day’s events.

Their mission was simple. Persuade two struggling businessmen to come back to the base without excessive use of violence or fearmongering. But of course Sakaki had to frighten them by saying a little too much about the Hassaikai and then just let them go. As much as Overhaul tried to be patient with his subordinates, the slip up had set them back weeks, and it was Chronostasis’ helpful reminder of the duo’s usefulness that kept them assembled that day.

“You couldn’t do one thing right? I was the one talking to them. All you had to do was stand there and not mess it up, and you somehow couldn’t even manage that. I trust Master Overhaul’s judgement but why he hired you will always be a mystery to me.”

“Aww, that’s a little harsh Shin.”

The stress of the failed mission, the young master’s disapproval, and now Sakaki’s lack of responsibility finally made Nemoto snap as he jumped off the couch they were sitting on to face his inebriated partner. “Do not call me Shin. And yes it would be harsh if this weren’t completely your fault. I understand the mechanics of your quirk, but if you could at least stay sober enough to maintain consciousness throughout the day, or remember crucial instructions, the rest of us wouldn’t have to work so hard to clean up your messes. Even then, I doubt you’d be good for much. You can barely defend yourself, much less Master Overhaul, you don’t know when to shut up, and you’re such a daily nuisance to every single member of this group that I can’t possibly fathom why you’re still around. At least everyone else around here who considers themselves useless is decent enough at something to earn their keep.” Nemoto stopped to catch his breath and reached for his glasses which were lying abandoned on the armrest. As he did so, Sakaki got up and shoved past him, making his way out the door before Nemoto could process what happened.

Usually, Sakaki just took Nemoto’s remarks with a bored expression, and the blond briefly wondered why he’d run off. It was true that he’d never really yelled at his partner before today, but it wasn’t much different, right? Besides, Sakaki always got drunk and forgot about it anyways. He’d probably just had to piss or something. Why did he care, anyways? His main concern should be reasserting himself as Overhaul’s most loyal servant. And with that, he wandered off to work on cleaning every square inch of the base, without another thought about Sakaki.

Something was off. Nemoto couldn’t exactly put a name to it, but he felt it. He felt it when he was dusting the mantle, he felt it when he was shining the doorknobs, he felt it when he was clearing one of Rappa’s “crime scenes”- an unfortunate punch to the wall that had been aimed Tengai- but he still couldn’t make out what it was. He was doing everything right, everyone else was acting normally, so what was wrong? 

The feeling was beginning to put Nemoto on edge, so he busied himself with more tasks to distract himself; even going so far as to offer to treat Setsuno’s wounds after the latter cut his palm while cleaning up a broken vase. That’s where he was now, adjusting the bandage while Setsuno stared at him in confusion.

“Why are you both acting so odd?”

Nemoto looked up at Setsuno.

“You’ve been cleaning for hours. That’s weird even for you. And you’d never offer to play doctor like this. And then there’s Sakaki. He’s normally everywhere but his room- on the ceiling, in the kitchen, on the couch, in MY room- but I haven’t seen him since you came back from your mission.”

Setsuno may have said more after that, but Nemoto stopped paying attention. So that’s what was off. He was subconsciously used to Sakaki following him around everywhere, always in at least the same room as the blond, always annoying him, trying to talk to or touch him, but he hadn’t done that at all today. Not since being scolded by Nemoto.

‘He’s probably just in some sort of alcohol coma somewhere. Or maybe he took a clue and went to bother someone else for a change. But I’ve been working around the base. Even if he’s not hanging off my arm, I would have at least seen him.’ Setsuno was asking him a question now, but Nemoto ignored him in favor of his own thoughts. Maybe he should check up on Sakaki, just in case? But it’s not like he cared for the idiot, he was just one of Overhaul’s tools. And Overhaul would want Nemoto to make sure all of his tools were in optimal condition. Yes, that’s it! He was doing this for Overhaul’s sake, purely for Overhaul. With his thoughts in order, Nemoto set off towards Sakaki’s room, ignoring the annoyed Setsuno behind him.

Deciding to talk to Sakaki was one thing, actually opening his door was another. Did he really want to give his partner any evidence that he enjoyed talking with him? It’s not like he missed Sakaki’s constant slurring or the way his face lit up when Nemoto so much as looked his direction, or- no. This wasn’t about his feelings for his partner. This was strictly him doing Overhaul a favor.

His facade broke a little when he cracked open the door to see Sakaki sitting in a nest of empty sake bottles, holding one loosely between three fingers. ‘Did my words really hurt him that much?’ Nemoto stiffened when his partner’s gaze landed on him. His expression didn’t change, but the half-full bottle slipped from his fingertips and onto the mattress. He made no move to retrieve it, prompting Nemoto to rush forward out of habit to clean the spill. Sakaki watched him silently, and Nemoto cycled through emotions in response to this new behavior. He was concerned about his partner’s well being, irritated at Sakaki for making him care, mad at himself for doing this, and confused as to why he was bothering with someone who wasn’t his beloved Overhaul.

In an attempt to force conversation, Nemoto pointed out the obvious. “You’ll need a new mattress now.”

Sakaki nodded faintly, and concern became the dominant emotion in Nemoto's mind. “You should probably stop drinking for today.” He’d hoped to get some form of a protest out of Sakaki, but when another nod was all he got, Nemoto realized he’d have to address the issue at hand. He’d never been good with emotions, having them or voicing them, but something in him refused to let Sakaki deal with this alone.

“I didn’t mean it. Well, most of it-” He cut himself off and inhaled sharply, recognizing that now wasn’t the best time for complete honesty.

To his surprise, Sakaki spoke up somewhat-coherantly. “I know, you’re right. I can’t handle my own quirk, I talk when I shouldn’t, and I’m more useless than any other precept in this entire base.”

“I-uh-” Shin Nemoto was not one to get caught off guard, and he certainly wasn’t one to contradict himself. So why did he want to now? The reason was beyond him, but nonetheless, the blond swallowed his pride and mustered out the closest thing to an apology he’d ever uttered. “Look, about this morning. I could have stopped those scientists from getting away, I could have threatened them, shot at them, but I didn’t. I blamed you because I didn’t want to admit that I had failed. It-it wasn’t your fault.”

“Maybe it wasn’t, but it’s not like I’m good at anything besides getting in the way, right?”

“No, I- you- you-” Nemoto sighed and looked to the side as he realized that there was no way to make his next words sound less sappy. “You keep me company, alright? Today was… weird without you there. Don’t do it again.” 

“Hey… You mean all that?”

“Yeah, yeah, don’t make me say it again, Sakaki.” Nemoto apparently didn’t have to, as Sakaki’s arms were around his waist before he knew it. 

“Dei.”

“Dei?”

“It’s my nickname! So you don’t have to call me Sakaki anymore!”

Nemoto gave his partner a few awkward pats on the back. “Iguessyoucancallmeshin.”

“Hm, what’s that?” Sakaki peered up at him innocently 

“I guess you can call me Shin. Sometimes. When no one else is around.”

“Okay, Shin.” 

Nemoto sighed again, this time purely relieved that Sakaki was back to normal again.

Ultraman Z Ep. 19: “The Last Hero” (TV Review)

(Original Airdate: October 31, 2020, Director: Takanori Tsujimoto, Writer: Toshizo Nemoto)

Time certainly got away from me last week, but I finally found some to be able to look at this amazing episode of Ultraman Z.

While fighting the monster Bemstar after it lands on Earth in search of food, STORAGE is taken by surprise when the monster flees at the sight of a crack in the sky. While the team stands by to deal with whatever comes out of the portal behind the crack, Zett tells Haruki it has the energy of the Yapool, a villain that once created “Terrible-Monsters” that were fought off by Ultraman Ace. When Yapool’s energy emerges in the form of the monster Baraba, it’s up to Haruki and Zett to hold fast against its overwhelming power.

Though they may require some help from an Ultra-Legend.

[Full Review Under the Cut]

Director Takanori Tsujimoto, who’s had a stellar track record this season including “First Juggling”, “Robot-2 Activation Plan”, and last time’s “Rechallenge from the Year 2020”, and the effects crew’s work on this episode appropriately make it feel like a capital-E “Event” above other episodes. After the more subdued style of camera work in the previous episode, this time is almost relentless with one creative effects-shot or high energy sequence after another. Before things kick into high gear, we get a shot from the perspective of a civilian’s cell phone camera of Windom and King Joe on standby to fight against whatever comes out of the crack in the sky. The compositing between the shots of the model city and the physical space the extras playing the civilian witnesses are in is seamless. Ground-level civilians also play a role in a small visual gag as Zett fights Baraba. A sliding parallax shot between people trying to get pictures of the fight that runs in parallel to the background action as the camera slides across the events.

The camerawork also plays into establishing Baraba as a threat in this episode. When the “Hitman Terrible-Monster” (gotta love these titles) lands from the portal it broke through, the camera does a hard pullback into an office building where we see the windows shatter from the shockwave of the monster’s first attack. Each move Baraba takes from there further reinforces how direness of its presence. First in how quickly it takes out King Joe, though that’s becoming less of an impressive feat as we get more appearances from Joe (I swear its been overall less helpful in fights than either of its predecessors.) More impressive is how quickly it manages to deal with Ultraman Z in Delta Rise Claw form, knocking Beliarok out of Zett’s grip quickly before the fight becomes an utter curbstomp. Baraba manages to do something we’ve only seen once before, knocking Zett out of Ultra-Fusion into his default form.

When the battle against Baraba becomes as desperate as any we’ve seen in the show, hope arrives in the form of Ultraman Ace.

Like with Ultra Q last time, I haven’t watched the series for Ultraman Ace yet, so there’s only so much I can say about this episode as a tribute to that. However, the shift in the atmosphere of this episode is palpable once Ace shows up to provide support against Baraba. From the accompanying music to the way the lighting makes him shine a little brighter than anything else in this episode, Ace’s arrival marks the fulfillment of the “Event” tone the rest of the episode sets. Ace showing off all his energy attacks against the monster, before encouraging Zett to rejoin the fight in Beta Smash form (appropriate since that fusion features Ace’s power as one of its components.) It’s mostly another fantastic display of action for the series, but it does feature the one effects shot in the episode that didn’t impress me. We see both Ultras attack Baraba from various angles as a CGI cityscape spins alongside all of them. It’s a bit much in an episode where otherwise the effects are some of the most impressive in the series and does more to distract from the action on display than enhance it.

The battle between the Ultras and Baraba ends when Ace teaches Zett to use Beta Smash’s power in a new attack called “Space Z”, finally defeating the monster. The end of the fight leaves both heroes with time to talk about their connection to each other, namely a “debt” that Zett told Haruki he owes to Ace earlier in the episode. Ace reveals that he’s the one who gave our title hero the name “Ultraman Z”, making him Zett’s “godfather” as Haruki puts it. The older hero tells Zett he chose the name since the letter Z means “the last” on Earth. Which is Ace’s hope for Zett’s legacy, that he’ll be the last hero the galaxy will need to fight against evil (so… no pressure or anything.)

Jokes aside, Zett looking up to his senior Ultra’s has been a major recurring motif in this series. Whether it’s wanting to be Zero’s student or the honorifics he tells Haruki to give the past heroes when they use Ultra-Fusion, wanting to be part of that legacy defines Ultraman Z. Here we see some of that admiration returned in Ace’s hope for the rookie Ultra. There’s added meaning, from a meta level, for that sentiment coming from one of the Showa-era’s “Ultra Brothers.” While Zero and Geed are both fantastic characters and heroes, they are more contemporary with Zett. Getting a demonstration of Zett’s in-universe connections to the greater legacy of Ultra displayed as spectacularly as it was in this episode is the best character showcase for Zett himself we’ve gotten.

Since the episode after this was a clip show I won’t bother reviewing, I’ll return to Ultraman Z with this Friday’s upcoming episode after it airs.
