Hello! I am a huge fan of your looks and I've been following you for a while. So excited to see you open your asks? I was wondering what your clothing storage is/was like, especially while in Japan, knowing how limited in space most modern urban apartments are there, and the extra volume involved in support garments for lolita fashion! And reading about your new situation of needing to temporarily live off a smaller wardrobe has been interesting!
Thank you! However, seeing some of the questions I have already received makes me want to close my ask box again for another 6 years, but yeah, I risked opening it again thinking there was less people here now.
For your question: I am actually a master tetris, haha! You also have to know that I sold/gave away most of my non-wardrobe belongings before moving to Japan, including my 700+ book collection, so my only things are wearable objects.
I lived in 3 different places in Japan, but my second place was the smallest. My first apartment in Okinawa was pretty big (one of the only advantages of living in the deep countryside), so I did not have any storage problems. However, when I moved to Tokyo, I went from a big 2LDK with a walk-in closet to a very old and small 1LDK with a traditional Japanese futon closet. I installed a standalone clothes rod in the upper part of the storage for my skirts, short jackets and blouses, and placed plastic drawers for everything foladable (as well as accessories) in the lower part. My hats were in the above compartments. I have added a generic picture of a futon closet to make you understand better (there's actually a plastic drawer thing in this picture, so it's useful).
Tumblr media
I bought two extra closets with from Nitori (see picture) for my dresses, coats and knits (folded in the drawers).
Tumblr media
My shoes were in a shoe rack at the entrance. My third apartment (in Tokyo again) was bigger, but my setup was similar. Sorry I don't have my own pictures.

It felt as if I was in a dark room for years. At one point, I heard something click, and crunches of shoes. Then I felt someone kiss my forehead and mumble something inaudible. After a few moments, I heard a click, then silence.
After a few moments, I heard a click, then silence It seemed like years since that moment. I assumed that I was somewhere lying down. I didn't know what time, day , week, month, nor the year. I was somewhere out of place ,and I was alone.
Suddenly there was a blurry bright light that appeared in my vision. My vision cleared up, and I saw hospital room. After seeing that I was at a hospital. I looked everywhere for a call light button but I couldn't find one.
But I saw a envelope next to me on a small chair beside my bed. Trying to figure out how to get out bed without messing up my IV.
After a few minutes, I decided to just take it out so I carefully did. I sat up trying to regain the feeling in my legs. I eventually got up slowly walking to grab the envelope.
As I got to the chair my legs felt like jello. So, I hurriedly grabbed the envelope and sat in the chair. I took a deep breath and opened the envelope and started reading it.
-
I'm sorry I couldn't be there when you wake up. I love you dearly. You have been in coma for many years with protection. I know that you don't want this burden on your shoulders. But you have to save the world, and you will have someone to help. There should be a bag with clothes and a old flip phone with one number.
I love you. Be safe.
Mom
-
I got up and slowly walked around looking for a bag. After looking under, in, and inside; I opened the door to the small bathroom that had a shower, a sink, and a toilet. I patted the walls for secret compartments.
I then walk to the the back of the toilet and opened it seeing two plastic bags. One had a backpack and the other had clothes. I check to see if the water was working and it was. So decided to wash off the dirt gathering for years.
There was already a bar of soap and a towel on the racks in here. I turned the water on but it was freezing cold and it wouldn't get warmer.
So went under the cold water, and grabbed the soap and lathered it as much as I could to wash my hair. I was almost done with washing my body with a gush of memories hit me.
-
It was James and me and we were in the shower hugging each other. I had just got the news that I was chosen for the super-soldier surgery. James came to my room to talk but he saw me crying. He consoled me and held me, but eventually it ended with us having sex. Then slowly moving to the shower where we just held each other. -
I gasped back into reality, but I wanted to go back to that moment of happiness. I sighed knowing i would never get that moment back. I slowly got out of the shower grabbing the towel to dry my body.
I grabbed the plastic bag with clothes. I opened it up to see a black pair of jeans, a grey t-shirt, panties, a sports bra, socks, and my old combat boots.
I put on the clothes piece by piece. After awhile I was sitting on the toilet rummaging through the backpack. So far I've got needed feminine products and a few extra panties, bras, shirts, and jeans.
Finally, of the minutes of rummaging through I found the cellphone. I went to the contacts on the phone and saw the name James.
It felt as if my heart dropped to my stomach. I was hesitant to click call, but maybe it was a different James.
In my heart I did want it to be him, but why would he wait. He probably found someone better and was probably happier. He's can't be here waiting. I clicked dial and the familiar sound of clicking when someone answers.
" I'm awake. I don't know where to go. Is this you James? Bucky? please, answer." I said with stuttering and voice of sadness .
"Yes. It's me. Y/n, I want you to walk to the stairs till you reach the first floor." He replied.
I let out deep breath and asked " what year is it?"
"It's 2045. You grab everything from the room your in and come to me. Okay?" He said to me.
"Okay. I'm coming. Are you the only one there?" I asked.
"Yes. Now hurry you have to save the world." He said teasingly, but truthfully.
I hurried at packing all I needed or thought I needed into my backpack. The last thing I grabbed was a necklace by my hospital bed. I remember that it was the one my mother had given me for my birthday.
I unhooked it and put it on. Then I grabbed the backpack full of things. I walked around the floor I was on looking for the stair well. Soon I found it opening it up and looked at the number 400. I'm on the fourth floor.
I started my journey down the stairs. I slowly walked as I got closer to the first floor. Do I want to see him I questioned myself as I got to the second floor. Of course I do, I miss him so much.
I was talking to myself so much that I had reached the first floor without barely noticing. I grabbed the door handle and stared awhile at it. I started to slowly open it as if I was going into a danger zone.
As I fully looked up I saw the familiar icy blue eyes of James. I stared for I don't now how long before I spoke.
"James..."

Creative Built In Wardrobe Layouts for Every Room
Built in wardrobes are a perfect solution for creating efficient storage while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of your home. From small apartments to spacious houses, these versatile storage solutions can be tailored to fit any room, ensuring that every inch of space is utilised effectively. Whether you need to maximise storage in a bedroom, create a functional home office, or make the most of a compact hallway, built in wardrobes Allambie Heights offer endless possibilities.
Floor-to-Ceiling Elegance
Embrace vertical space by installing a floor-to-ceiling built in wardrobe. This layout not only amplifies storage capacity but also adds a sense of grandeur to the room. Incorporate mirrored panels to visually expand the space and introduce a touch of sophistication. Customise internal compartments to accommodate various items, from clothing and accessories to shoes and linens. Consider adding integrated lighting within the wardrobe to illuminate the contents, making it easier to find items and adding a luxurious feel to the space.
Corner Cabinets
Corner spaces often go underutilised, but with custom-built corner cabinets, you can maximise every inch of your room. These wardrobes seamlessly merge into the existing architecture, offering a seamless storage solution without encroaching on valuable floor space. Opt for sliding or bi-fold doors to enhance accessibility in tight areas. Additionally, corner cabinets can be designed with rotating shelves or pull-out racks to maximise storage efficiency and provide easy access to items stored deep within the corners.
Under-Stair Storage
Transform the often neglected area beneath a staircase into a functional storage haven. Built in wardrobes fitted beneath stairs ingeniously utilise what would otherwise be dead space. Customise the design to suit the staircase's configuration, incorporating drawers, shelves, and hanging rails to cater to diverse storage needs. This space can also be used creatively to store seasonal items, sports equipment, or even create a small hidden workspace or reading nook within the wardrobe design.
Dual-Purpose Dividers
For open-plan living spaces or studio apartments, built in wardrobes can serve as versatile room dividers. Create a partition that separates distinct areas while offering ample storage on both sides. Opt for a design with open shelving on one side to display decorative items and closed compartments on the other to conceal clutter, maintaining visual appeal throughout the space. This dual-purpose approach ensures that the wardrobe not only serves as a functional storage solution but also enhances the room's overall layout and flow.
Integrated Headboard Wardrobes
In bedrooms with limited floor space, consider integrating wardrobes into the headboard of the bed. This innovative layout combines two essential elements of the room, maximising efficiency without compromising style. Choose a design with built in lighting to enhance functionality and create a cosy ambiance for bedtime reading. Additionally, incorporating hidden compartments and drawers within the headboard can provide extra storage for personal items, making it a practical and stylish solution for small bedrooms.
Modular Wall Units
Flexibility is key in dynamic living spaces, and modular wall units offer precisely that. These customizable wardrobes comprise individual units that can be arranged and rearranged to adapt to changing needs. Incorporate a mix of hanging rails, shelves, drawers, and accessories organisers to create a personalised storage solution that evolves with you. Modular units can also be designed to include features such as pull-out desks, fold-away beds, or entertainment centres, making them perfect for multifunctional rooms.
Concealed Closets
For a sleek and seamless look, consider concealed built in wardrobes that blend seamlessly into the surrounding walls. These hidden closets maintain a minimalist aesthetic, with doors that mimic the wall's finish for a seamless facade. Push-to-open mechanisms or discreet handles preserve the clean lines while ensuring effortless access to your belongings. This design approach is ideal for contemporary and minimalist interiors where maintaining a clutter-free appearance is paramount.
Floating Wardrobe Islands
Break away from conventional designs by introducing floating wardrobe islands into your space. These freestanding units offer a sense of airiness while providing ample storage underneath. Customise the island with drawers, cubbies, or pull-out baskets to keep essentials organised and easily accessible. Floating wardrobe islands can also serve as additional seating areas, display surfaces, or dressing tables, making them a versatile addition to larger bedrooms or walk in closets.
Walk In Wardrobes
For those with ample space, a walk in wardrobe is the epitome of luxury and organisation. Design a walk in closet with a variety of storage options, including hanging rails, shelves, drawers, and shoe racks. Incorporate a central island for additional storage and a place to lay out outfits. Enhance the space with elegant lighting fixtures, a full-length mirror, and comfortable seating. walk in wardrobes can be tailored to suit individual needs, from displaying designer clothing and accessories to housing everyday essentials in an orderly fashion.
Kids' Room Wardrobes
In children's rooms, built in wardrobes can be designed to grow with them. Create a layout that includes adjustable shelves and rods to accommodate changing clothing sizes and storage needs. Integrate fun elements like chalkboard doors, colourful bins, and open shelves for toys and books. Including lower drawers and cubbies allows children to access their belongings easily and encourages them to keep their space tidy.
Home Office Wardrobes
Incorporating a built in wardrobe into a home office can provide a discreet and efficient storage solution. Design the wardrobe to include shelving for office supplies, filing cabinets, and compartments for electronic devices. Sliding doors can conceal the workspace when not in use, maintaining a clean and organised appearance. This approach helps to separate work from leisure in a home environment, promoting productivity and reducing clutter.
Laundry Room Wardrobes
Optimise your laundry room with built in wardrobes that house cleaning supplies, laundry essentials, and linen storage. Include features like pull-out hampers, fold-out ironing boards, and drying racks. Customisable shelving and compartments ensure that everything has its  place, making laundry chores more manageable and the space more efficient.
Hallway and Entryway Wardrobes
Hallways and entryways are perfect for built in wardrobes that provide essential storage without occupying too much space. Design these wardrobes to include hooks for coats, shelves for shoes, and compartments for bags and accessories. Adding a bench with built in storage underneath can offer a convenient spot for putting on shoes and keeping the area tidy.
When it comes to built in wardrobe layouts, creativity knows no bounds. Whether you're working with a compact apartment or a spacious villa, there's a design solution to suit every space and style. By harnessing innovative layouts and incorporating thoughtful customisation, you can transform any room into a functional and visually stunning sanctuary.

Closet in the hallway: design and filling ideas
The hallway needs a closet or coat rack to store clothes  https://urbanwardrobes.co.uk/. Normal closet uncomfortable because of the swing doors that block the passage, and a hanger with a bunch of clothes is not as aesthetically pleasing as we would like. That is why in recent years, more and more often put a closet in the hallway. This type of furniture allows the rational use of the entire useful volume - at the expense of shelves, baskets, hangers.
Types of designs
Closets come in three types. Built-in differs in the fact that they occupy some niche and do not have their own walls, floor and ceiling. A similar design is also done when it is possible to cut off part of the room from wall to wall. In this case, simply order the facade (doors) for a compartment cabinet with a system of rollers and guides. Inside, they put partitions and attach/install the stuffing. In some vestibules built-in closet compartment make in place of the former pantry, with another layout manages to separate the part at the end.
If this is not possible, put cabinet compartment. This is a full-fledged large cabinet with a back wall. sidewalls, floor and ceiling. It differs in the design of the doors and the filling. Another difference - this type of storage system is trying to do under the ceiling, to maximize the use of space. And it looks more organic.
Tumblr media
Cabinet compartment. There are more materials, but the functionality is the same.
The next type - a corner cabinet compartment in the hallway. They are usually small in size, are convenient because they allow you to use the space in the corner, which is otherwise difficult to use. In a large corner design is hard to pick up stuffing is in the corner - that it was convenient to use should try hard.
One of the options for a corner cabinet coupe in the hallway - between the two doors
Radial cabinets coupe. They are distinguished by the fact that they have not flat and curved front part. The side walls can also be rounded. This furniture is very individual and looks very good, but costs more.
Radial cabinets look interesting
This is a short about what cabinets coupe and how they fit into hallways and corridors. To choose the best type is simple - it is necessary to look at the plan, to see where you can theoretically fit such furniture. Then assess how convenient it will be exactly this arrangement, and do not forget to take into account the direction in which the adjacent doors open. If necessary, they can be re-hung by replacing the hinges.
Dimensions
The smallest cabinets coupe do on two doors and they have a width of 1-1,5 m. The maximum length of the closet is limited by the number of doors. A maximum of 5 of them put. It should be borne in mind that on the floor attached a fairly wide profile with five "rails" on which rollers, mounted on the door. A similar profile is attached to the ceiling.
The depth of the closet can be any, but the standard are considered to be 45 cm and 60 cm. To order make from 400 mm to 700 mm. In height, the compartment cabinet can be under the ceiling. Usually they are made in the range from 2000 mm to 2700 mm.
Filling
Determined with the type and size of the compartment closet, proceed to the development of the filling. This is the stuffing that is behind the doors. Since in the hallway usually leave outerwear and shoes, first of all allocate space for them.
For coats and other long clothes will need a compartment where you can hang hangers. If the width of the closet is 60 cm or more, put a conventional crossbar on which cling hangers. It can be placed at shoulder level or slightly above.
If the width of the closet 45 cm and less, we must look for sliding design - transverse (frontal) bars on which the hangers are hanging parallel to the door, but not sideways to her. Such constructions are mounted just above head level - it's more convenient. You need to raise your arm and hang a hanger. Therefore, approximately at this level a shelf is attached, and to it is already a rod.
The height of these compartments depends on what you plan to store here. Under the coats, coats, fur coats departments make 130-150 cm depending on the growth of the owners. Under the jackets, coats and other. similar clothing otvodyatsya 90-120 cm.
When the height of the closet is 220 cm or more in one section, if necessary, you can place two compartments for the bars with hangers. In the upper is installed not a rod, and pantograph. This is a crossbar with a mechanism that allows it to raise and lower.

I was having photos taken on and off all day, in different places in different styles for different photos for different people. But my favorites are ones where my face isn’t shoeing much. It makes the photo unmarketable, and I haven’t really used time with a pro photo to take unmarketable photos before. They were taken just because I wanted them, which means they’re all for me. Im always taking useful photos, which I still took a lot of, but I liked doing some that weren’t exactly a wise use of time. I also haven’t had professional cheer photos taken outside of competition, so that was fun too.
[para below]
Kyla rolled two suitcases outside, dressed in a neutral colored leotard. Her makeup was done, nothing crazy, just a professional, clean look. She pulled them up near the photographer, smiling at him and watching the person who was having pictures taken. She opened the suitcases and pulled out attachments and compartments, one suitcase having transformed into a clothing rack, and the other transforming into a makeup table. Her manager/agent/friend who talked to big whigs for her wanted photos, and her father would want photos, and she wanted her own photos, so she just brought what she used to bring to competitions and pageants. Plus, her teaching partner for dance had challenged her to some specific photos. She put on a silky leotard with a matching fancy looking tutu, grabbing her pointe shoes to get the pictures for her dad out of the way first.
“You do pointe?” She’d done several dance shoots with Jordan, but none of them had involved pointe shoes. “My dad likes it more than I do. Something about dancing on toes on an actual block of wood isn’t appealing to me.” She sat in the splits and put on her pointe shows, rotating her torso around to put the other one on.
The person taking photos didn’t seem to know what to do with themselves, so Kyla gave them direction as she stretched her back. Once they were done and had supplied a contact to send the photos to, she did some shots on pointe. Someone else came to have their photos taken so she went with Jordan’s son, Hudson to the parking lot for more shots.
Kyla switched between being in front of the camera and behind it throughout the day, wanting to make sure she didn’t keep anyone waiting to have their own photos taken. She changed clothes several times and also altered her makeup, and between that and helping come up with ideas for other people and helping others feel more comfortable on camera, it was a very fun day for her.
“I’ve never seen that many naked men in my life,” Jordan told her at the end of the night. “You’re welcome,” Kyla shrugged. “I’m straight,” he replied. Kyla shrugged again. “Next time don’t go losing bets to me.”

Yandere Draco Malfoy (3/5)
Tumblr media
Word count ; 4.3k
*Edited.
And a nap I did get.
Draco shook me awake and I snorted slightly. Usually he would laugh when I did something embarrassing, but he completely ignored my sleep sounds. I sat up.
“We’re almost there. You should change into your robes,” Draco stated.
I nodded, wiping my eyes. When I surveyed my surroundings, I realized that Draco had already changed and his suitcase was on the booth table. I stood and grabbed my suitcase, pulling out my robes. I went to the changing room and finished quickly. When I returned, the train was coming to a stop. The caboose was dark. I was about to open the door to the compartment, the I heard Draco’s voice.
The curtains were drawn, but I could see his shadow standing behind it. I stationed myself against the wall. What was he doing?
“Didn’t mommy ever tell you it was rude to eavesdrop, Potter?” A second later, he spewed,” Petrificus Totalus!” I heard a thud. I covered my mouth and held back a gasp. Harry had been in our compartment the entire time?
I heard him pacing. Draco was heading toward the thud. “Oh, yeah, she was dead before you could wipe the drool of your chin.” I almost gasped when I heard a pronounced crack. It made my stomach churn. “That’s for talking to Y/n. As for you, enjoy your ride back to London.”
Before I react, the door opened and I was me with Draco, both of our bags in hand. He seemed surprised by my presence, but shoved right past me. He must’ve thought I didn’t hear anything. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and began dragging me out.
“Wait, my bag —“
“I have your bag here, idiot.”
I could only spare a glance into the compartment. Nothing was there. Had Harry already left the scene?
There was nothing for me to do but follow Draco out and head to Hogwarts with him.
~~~
I was surprised by how tranquil the first semester was. Although there were whispers of Voldemort’s return, the most people had to gossip about was student romances. It felt like the calm before the storm, so I intended to spend my Christmas break wisely.
I was more than happy to oblige when I receive a personal invitation to spend the final days of vacation at the Malfoy Manor. It was a personal letter written by his father, so I was quite flattered that I was so well-received by Draco that his father approved of me. My parents were excited to see me off since, and I quite,’ It’s the first time I’ve spent personal time with a boy since he died.’
And they were right. Although Draco and I were only friends - and I might have developed a small crush on him -, I didn’t spend as much time with other friends outside of school like I did with him. If you told me a year ago that I would be best friends with the Slytherin prince, I would have a hard time believing it. Because, even now, Draco was just as mean-spirited; perhaps even more so.
I knocked on the large mansion’s front door. My two fathers stood beside me, saying that it was only polite to meet Narcissa and Lucius themselves.
The door opened and we were met with a house elf. He beckoned us inside. Me and my family entered. The house elf shuffled off, taking my luggage with me. There were pairs of slippers of various sizes by the coat rack, so we took off our shoes and put on a pair.
I examined our surroundings. The meeting hall was thin. Ahead of us was a stair case. There were two closed doors adjacent to each there. Beside the staircase was the hallway that led deeper into the manor. The hallway was dimly lit, and there was something cold about the place, even with the quaint Christmas decorations on the wall and railing.
Emerging from the second floor, Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy welcomed us. Lucius had an unfriendly and strict air, but Narcissa welcomed us with open arms, immediately doting on me.
“My dear, I’m glad you accepted our invitation!” Narcissa greeted. “Hello. You must be her parents.” Lucius nodded to us as Narcissa shook each of our hands. “Are you planning to stay for dinner?”
“Actually, we plan to take this chance to personally celebrate Christmas,” my dad explained. “However, I’m sure we’ll live vicariously through Y/n.”
“The house elf has already taken your luggage to your room,” Lucius informed, staring me down.
I bowed my head slightly. “Thank you, sir.”
Narcissa waved her hand dismissively. “There’ll be none of that. You might as well count as family with how close you are to Draco. Please, just call him Lucius and me Narcissa.”
I grinned. “Will do.”
My dads hugged me. “We ought to get going. Thanks again for your hospitality. We’ll be off now.” Dad pulled out some floo powder from his pocket after bidding their good-bye and disappeared.
Now that my parents were gone, Narcissa clasped her hand on my shoulder. She shouted over her shoulder,” Draco, where are you? Y/n’s here! Come give her a tour!”
The house was old and creaky, so I could hear quick footsteps thudding above me. Draco seemed slightly out of breath as he came downstairs. He was stoic and was wearing his usual posh attire of a suit. His whole family was wearing high-class clothing, while I only had casual attire on. Even if I did have such fancy clothing, I wouldn’t have thought to wear it for such an occasion.
Narcissa nudged Draco toward me. There was a ghost of a smile on his expression as he stood in front of me. “Good, now that you too are together, Lucius and I will let you kids be,” she chided mischievously.
“Hello,” Draco greeted.
“Don't be a stranger,” I replied with a grin. I wrapped my arms around his neck and stood on my tippy-toes, enveloping him in a warm hug. He reciprocated the action, his spindly fingers drifting over the small of my back. “I missed having you and that nagging run-on mouth of your’s around.”
He chuckled, pulling away. “My father likes you. He says that it's good to have someone so loyal by my side. It’s even better that we’re both prefects.”
“I’m honored. But he always looks like he’s in pain, so you could’ve told me he hated me and I would believe it," I quipped.
Draco clicked his tongue, ruffling my hair. “You should feel honored. Not just anyone gets invited to my home.”
“I have a feeling your bias had something to do with it.”
“None of my other acquaintances have seen my house. Even Pansy and Crab and Goyle haven't been here, and I’ve known them for at least ten years,” he insisted.
“My god! Your parents must be quite stiff-necked.”
“No, I just hate having them around. I always have.”
“Now, now, it’s Christmas. Christmas is all about gratitude and forgiveness and positivity. No insulting your entourage behind their backs.”
Draco hummed, smirking. “Of course you’d say that, Hufflepuff.”
“Oh, you know you love me for it.”
He opened his mouth then closed it again. A blush rose to his cheeks and he suddenly turned away. Let me show you to your room. Dinner will be on soon.” He grabbed my hand and led me to the second floor.
Unlike the entrance, the second floor was spacious. The stairs immediately led to a library slash study, and there were several doors. The one we went through opened into a wide hallway with rows of doors. We stopped a few doors down, and he opened it for me.
I let out an audible gasp as I entered the room. My suitcase was beside the bed. The huge king-sized bed. There was a dresser and a mirror and a closet, oh my!  I broke away from Draco and immediately cannon-balled onto the bed, ruffling the blankets.
I let out laughs of joy as I rolled around on it. I was so very tempted to jump on it, but it was just so comfortable. I slowed, sitting up to peer at my friend.
He looked completely spaced out, staring at me. There was a faint but visible smile on his handsome face. I couldn't help but blush from how adamantly his attention was on me.
“Draco?”
He jumped, shaking himself out of it. “Yes?”
“Nothing. You were just staring.”
“How could I not?”
“Are you flirting or insulting me?" I giggled.
His cheeks reddened. “As if I’d flirt with the likes of you, Hufflepuff,” he huffed. “Why are you so excited about a bed?”
“Well, I’m not poor, but my family could only afford a twin-size. I've never slept in even a queen-size bed before," I explained. “Bloody hell, I don't think I've even slept on a queen-sized bed.  I mean, when I’ve visited the Weasleys, I slept on a couch, and when I was with Cedric during holidays, I shared his tiny bed.”
His body went rigid. "Of course… the Weasleys are too unsophisticated to afford such things.”
“Maybe,” I argued," but their family is so tightly-knit to the point it's envious. Each Weasley so different, yet still fired up and filled with love for their family.”
Draco bit his lip. “Whatever.”
A lightbulb went off in my head. “Oh! Right! I have your Christmas gift. I actually dropped by Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley the same day the invitation arrived. I bought things for your parents, too. Do you want to open your's now or at dinner?”
"Now is fine.” He took a step back, standing in the doorway. "I got you something, too. Let me go get it.”
While Draco exited to grab my present, I went through my suitcase. My clothes were messy and wrinkled as I tossed them onto the bed, excited. I pulled out four packages, one for each of the family members. I sat upright on the bed with Draco's gift on my lap.
He reentered and plopped next to me. There was a permanent blush dusted on his cheeks as we exchanged gifts. We had a stare down, waiting for one of us to open it first.
“You first,” I insisted.
He bit his lip. “Oh, fine then. I know how stubborn you are.”
I grinned victoriously. I scooted closer and propped my head on his tall shoulders and he tore open the cheesy wrapping paper delicately. He let it flutter the ground. He was greeted with an ornate wooden box with a clasp. The box was decorated with snakes along the rims.
“Open it, open it!” I urged.
“Bloody hell, you're impatient,” he complained. He fiddled with the clasp and opened the box.
Inside was a green white-chocolate snake. It was winding around the outside, and on the inside was a custom-made metal snake quill.
I watched as Draco's jaw dropped. “Where the hell did you get this?”
“I custom ordered it. It cost a pretty penny, but it was worth it. First, I commissioned Scrivenshaft’s Quill shop owner to make the box and the quill. Then, I went to Honeydukes to commission a white-chocolate Slytherin snake. They even dyed it green for your pleasure. Do you like it?”
“Do I like it, she asks,” he exclaimed. “It’s perfect. And I thought my gift was thoughtful.”
I broke a piece off of the snake and held it to my mouth. “Say ‘ah’!”
Draco took the chocolate. He smiled widely as he chewed. “This is delicious,” he vocalized. He closed the box and set it beside him on the bed. I was about to start opening his notably small box, but he cupped my cheeks. I met his gaze, and I blushed. He was staring at me with such adoration… well, I was quite flattered.
I I leaned in and shut my eyes as he grew closer. I expected him to kiss me, but instead, his lips pressed to my forehead. They remained for a minute, but the he pulled away. “You’re too good for me,” he whispered.
I giggled, swatting his chest playfully. “Nonsense. Now, if you don't mind, I'm eager to see what you got me.”
I tore the wrapping paper carelessly. I had an inkling that it was some sort of jewelry from the flatness of the box. It was a blue box. I popped off the top. I was in absolute awe at how beautiful the piece was. It was a necklace and ring set. The necklace was silver and attached to the chain was a hollow silver heart with a lapis lazuli crystal heart inside of it. The ring was from the matching set, a silver ring with two small diamonds and a azure heart in between them. There was an inscription on the inside of the ring that said the date.
“Oh, Draco…!”
He took the box from me and unhooked the necklace. He moved my hair out of the way and clipped the necklace on. The moment the jewelry touched my shirt, I played with it. He took my left hand and slid the ring on my middle finger. I was in completely shock from how beautiful and thoughtful the gift was. I’d never been given something so… glamorous.
“Thank you. This is the best gift I’ve ever received,” I gushed. “This must’ve cost you a fortune! Are these real diamonds? You didn’t have to —“
Draco placed his finger on my lip to shush me. “It’s nothing. I wanted to… show my appreciation.”
I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him into a side hug. “God, I’m the luckiest girl alive. If I knew this was what you were giving me, I would’ve bought you something else —“
“No, your gift is perfect. Really. I’ve never… had someone be so thoughtful before.”
I sent him a reassuring smile. “Get used to it.”
“Out of curiosity, what did you get my parents?”
I hummed. “Well, for what you’ve told me about your mother, she’s very practical. So, I got her a book of practical spells for traveling. And for your father, I was kind of stumped, so I just bought him a Slytherin paperweight. And for the whole family, I bought a simple picture frame.”
Draco smiled. “I’m sure they’ll love it. Especially mother. She’s always been obsessed with being close with each other.”
“Nothing wrong with that.”
A house elf entered and informed us that it was dinner time. With that announcement, my official holiday with the Malfoy commenced.
~~~
I was right when I thought that the semester was the calm before the storm. Voldemort was on the rise, and Hogwarts had never been more scared of what was to come. Students were being attacked in school. There were small changes in the curriculum and daily life that instigated such concerns. DADA was stricter and we were learning more dangerous spells. Students were banned from leaving the premises. And us prefects were on night duty for an extra hour.
Tonight was one of those nights. I was surveying the left wing by the astronomy tower since there wasn’t much to do. Torches turned on and off automatically when I passed since Hogwarts had installed motion-sensing torches. So, I wasn’t completely cascaded in darkness.
I sat at the bottom of the steps that led to the astronomy tower. I leaned against the wall, hugging my cape to my chest. It was late February, so it was still chilly outside, but not so much as to need winter clothes.
I was incredibly tired. If I could at least get a few minutes of shut-eye before continuing to the next post…
Clack.
I sat up, alert, as I heard distant footsteps. I noticed a torch automatically start from down the hallway. There was someone approaching. A tall, dark figure. I assumed it was a teacher. As the figure grew closer, I realized it was a cloaked figure. I rose to my feet and pulled my wand behind my back.
“Who are you?” I called out.
The figure stopped, as though they didn’t notice my presence until now. Pale hands revealed themselves and pulled the hood down. I was surprised to come face to face with Draco. His hair was thin and all over the place, and his hands were ghostly white, even in the dim, red lighting. His expression, only for a moment, was pure dread and guilt.
“Draco. Fancy seeing you here… I didn’t know your path crossed over mine,” I greeted.
Draco bit his lip, finally stopping in front of me.
“Y/n… It appears that it does.Or perhaps you’re just behind schedule.”
I placed the back of my hand on his forehead. He jumped back, bewildered, his eyes asking for an explanation. “I was checking if you had a fever. You haven’t been looking well these past few days, Draco. I’m worried.”
He bit his lip and abashed his gaze, as though he was searching for an excuse. “I… do you trust me, Y/n?”
“Of course, Draco. What’s all this about?”
“I’ve been thinking for a while. A long time, actually. It’s… been on my mind for years, even before we met.”
He took another step toward me. I instinctively took a step back, my back hitting the wall. I dug my hands into my cloak. Over the break, it was as though Draco had grown in height; at least, it seemed like it in this moment, as he towered over me.
“What about, Draco?”
It was though he completely melted. His hands caged me against the wall and he leaned into the crook of my neck. His hot breath fanned over my skin. I was sure that my face was beet red from the close, intimate proximity. Sure, Draco and I had hugged, given cute platonic kisses, but never like this. Something about this was different.
“I love the way you say my name,” he sighed, pressing a kiss to my neck. “Say it again.”
I lightly pushed at his chest, and he pulled his head up. Our faces were inches away from one another.Our noses grazed, and we maintained a steady eye contact.
“Draco.”
We both swerved into a kiss, our lips crashing against one another. It was the perfect mix of passion and gentleness; his lips were thin and slightly chapped, and I loved it. I weaved my hands into his ashen locks, pulling him closer. Our chests were pressed against one another. One of his hands held the back of my head while the other roamed my waist. It felt so right.
I eventually pushed him, but the proximity between our faces remained close. I pawed at his chest. I licked my lips, hardly thinking at all. All I knew is that I kissed Draco and I liked it. I liked him.
“So… what were you thinking so hard about?” I mewled seductively, running my hands across his shoulders.
It was as though he was breathless. As in-the-moment as he was, behind those stunning blue eyes was guilt. Anxiety. Secrets.
“I’m in love with you. I’ve been in love with you for god knows how long. All I think about is you.”
I smiled, stroking his cheek. His face was red and he was focused intently on me. “I love you too, Draco.”
I leaned in for a kiss, but he suddenly stepped back. He sent me a reassuring elfish grin. “You’re on night duty. You ought to get to your next post.”
I tilted my head in confusion, brows furrowed. “What? That’s sudden. Draco, please, tell me what’s wrong —“
“Please! Go to your next station point.”
I examined his movements. His hands were trembling. His lips twitched, and his eyes were glossy, as though he would burst into tears at any moment. I reached out to him, wanting to ask, but I knew he would not tell me. I withdrew my hand and readjusted my cloak.
“…Yes. I suppose you’re right. I’ll see you tomorrow, Draco.”
I wasn’t sure what note we left that on. We kissed and he confessed, but it was abrupt from the beginning. I began walking away, waiting to be in a proximity that wouldn’t alert him of my presence. Our paths never crossed any other night; he had to be up to something.
I stopped walking a hundred or so yards away. And then I listened. Because of my stillness, the torch eventually turned off. I heard Draco’s padding footsteps walk further up the astronomy tower staircase. The footsteps eventually faded, so I made my way back to the steps. I slowly and quietly ascended to the astronomy tower.
I made it to the bottom floor. I was stunned when I was met with Harry. I was about to speak, but he held his finger to his lips to shush me and beckoned for me to come toward him. When I was standing beside him, he motioned up.
Footsteps echoed above. On one side of the large, transparent globe stood Dumbledore, while on the other, approaching, had to be Draco.
“Good evening, Draco,” Dumbledore stuttered. I was shocked when I saw that Draco was pointing his wand toward the headmaster. “What brings you here on this fine spring evening?”
“Who else is here?” he demanded. “I heard you talking.”
“Oh, I often talk out loud to myself. I find it to be a habit that’s extraordinarily useful. I often whisper to myself.” He paused, his tone becoming empathetic. “Draco, you are no assassin.”
“How do you know what I am?” he retorted, his voice cracking. “There are some things that would shock you.”
I grabbed Harry’s sleeve anxiously. We exchanged glances.
“Like cursing Katie Bell and hoping in return she’d bear a cursed necklace to me? Like replacing a bottle with one laced with poison? Forgive me, Draco, but I cannot help but feel that these actions reflect that your heart really isn’t in it.”
“Trust me. I was chosen.” Draco pulled up his sleeve, revealing the symbol of a Death Eater. Even with the cascading shadows, I knew what he was showing. Draco was working with Voldemort.
“I shall make it easier for you —“
“Expeliarmus!”
Dumbledore’s wand flew out of his grasp and clattered on the floor.
“Very good, very good.”
The astronomy door was opened with a loud boom. Someone else was making an appearance. Harry and I were stock still in anticipation.
“There are others,” Dumbledore continued. “How?”
“The vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement,” Draco seethed. “I’ve been mending it.”
Harry began pulling me into the shadows. “Let me guess. He has a sister. A twin.”
“Borgan and Bergs have formed a passage.”
“Genius. Draco, years ago, I knew a boy who made all the wrong choices. Please let me help you.”
I wanted to scream, cry, and smother Draco with affection. He wasn’t evil. I knew he wasn’t. But if he made this decision, it would be over for him. He would have made his choice.
“You can’t.” He was on the verge of tear. “Don’t you understand? I have to do this! I have to kill you. Or he’s going to kill me."
All I wanted was to tell him he didn’t. That Dumbledore could help him. That Harry could. That I could.
Footsteps thudding to the upper level. Someone else had arrived, and I hoped it was backup for Dumbledore. But, my hopes were denied as I heard the snide voice of an unfamiliar woman.
“Well. Look what we have here.” The woman stepped closer to him. “Well done, Draco,” she hissed in his ear.
“Good evening, Bellatrix. I think introductions are in order, don’t you?”
“I would love to, Albus. But I’m afraid we’re already behind schedule. Do it!”
Another voice joined in. “He doesn’t have the stomach. Just like his father. I should finish him on my own.”
With a hand over my mouth, I took a few steps forward so that I could see Draco once more through the floorboard cracks. Tears sprung to my eyes. This couldn’t be the end. It just couldn’t.
“No!” Bellatrix screeched. “The Dark Lord has ordered the boy to do it. This is your moment, Draco. Do it. Come on, Draco. Now!”
I almost jumped out of my skin as Harry and I were met with Snape, who was pointing his wand at us. He then shushed us. Snape was involved in all of this. How?
“No,” Snape sneered as he walked up the steps. Draco’s focus was broken. He was on the verge of breaking down as he swiveled toward the man. Snape paced. Dumbledore made one last eye contact with us. I held Harry’s hand. We both needed some sort of comfort to keep from screaming and shouting for this all to stop.
“Severus,” Dumbledore greeted.
All eyes were on Snape.
“Please.”
“Avada kadavra!” A green flash flew from the wand and hit Dumbledore. I shoved my lower arm into my mouth to muffle my scream of terror as the spell hit the headmaster. I saw his body fly off the precipice. Harry was just as stunned. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face in his chest to prevent my sobs from escaping. I couldn’t watch. I just couldn’t.
Bellatrix, leaning over the balcony, shot a spell into the sky. Hogwarts had been taken. We were fighting a downhill battle.
Harry took off after them, enraged.
I was left with nothing to do but chase after him.

He stood at the train station with a single bag in hand. It was freezing cold, but the ticket he’d purchased said that the train would arrive in less than two minutes, and he couldn’t miss it. He had to see the ocean, he needed to. Small snowflakes drifted lazily down from the expanse of the sky, and when Minghao looked upwards the snowflakes looked almost gray against the blank white canvas. He couldn’t see it himself, but if one looked closely enough, they would see that tiny white flakes had caught on his long, dark lashes, a stunning contrast of shadow and light that lasted for only a fleeting moment before melting away into minuscule droplets upon his smooth skin, then blinked away in just another second. Those same snowflakes settled into his dark hair and on the shoulders of his long tan coat, the top of his travel bag and the toes of his brown shoes that peeked out from his wide-legged slacks. He shifted a bit uncomfortably as he peered around the side of the train station to try and see if he could spy his train’s arrival, but his vision was filled with only more snow and frost, everything so brightly white he found himself squinting. Small puffs of white escaped his parted lips, drifting lazily upwards into the sky. He pulled his thick wool scarf back up over his nose and mouth, relishing the immediate warmth.
Relief spread across his face as he finally spotted his train, chugging along merrily. He stepped back, a safe distance away from the bright yellow safety line that had been sprinkled with salt to keep it in sight, and watched as the first few compartments of the train whooshed past. It began slowing down then, metal grinding against metal. Minghao could see red sparks flying from the friction of the wheels against the tracks, and he took another step back even though he was already a good distance away from them.
The doors opened, and he let out a happy sigh as he stepped over the menacing crack between the platform and the vehicle, handing his ticket to the respective person, and found a seat in one of the first cars.
Instead of hoisting his luggage on the silver racks above his head like most other people did, he sat his bag in the seat across from him. That way, if he needed anything, he could easily reach over and get it, rather than having to get up out of his seat and hoist it down. He’d taken enough of these train rides to know what was best for himself.
“Can I sit here?” a voice asked, and Minghao furrowed his brow; they’d just stopped, surely there were other free seats. He looked up to the source of the voice and almost gasped aloud, for it was a ghost. “Can I sit here?” she repeated, looking around. Minghao swallowed hard. He shouldn’t have let her know that he could see her. Her voice was slightly warbly and drowned out, almost like a water-damaged speaker, and the way she was dressed made it obvious that she was from a different time. Though her clothes weren’t close to ancient, they were evidently outdated, and Minghao could almost confidently say when she died. Her face, however, was a timeless beauty, rounded and pale like a moon, framed with loose pieces of raven hair that had escaped the large clip in the back holding a majority of the curtain of black, as well as thick eyebrows that hovered straight over dark, hooded eyes, squinted with concern. Her narrow lips were formed into a pout, corners downturned and deep. A small wrinkle between her brows further signified her deep worry.
“Yes,” Minghao said cautiously, and he stood up to pick up his bag, sitting it next to him. He still refused to put it up on the racks. He wished that she would just go away, but it didn’t seem likely. To control the situation, Minghao promised himself that he wouldn’t interact with her any further.
“Can you help me?” she asked.
Minghao’s lips formed a thin line as he pressed them together tightly. So much for that idea. “I don’t think so,” he said quickly, uncomfortable with conversing with someone who seemed to be oblivious to the fact that she was dead.
“Please,” she begged, “I can’t find my son.”
Minghao’s heart throbbed painfully. She reminded him so much of his mother, whom he missed terribly. It also reminded him of the year they went to the beach and he’d wandered too far down the shoreline, out of his mother’s watchful gaze after she’d looked away for just a moment to pull the sunscreen out of her bag. The way that she screamed, so raw and full of fear, was burned into his eardrums forever. He had never heard his name said in such a tone. It sent a chill down his spine every time he simply thought of it. Still, he avoided her sad, sad eyes, and looked down at his shoes. “I’m sorry.”

Like A Dream
Tumblr media
“I still think this is a terrible idea,” Sarah Jacobs said from inside Katherine Pulitzer’s closet. Or at least that’s what Katherine called it. This “closet” was almost the same size as Jacobs’ entire apartment and probably cost twice as much to build. There were several wooden wardrobes full of dresses lining one wall, as well as a huge shoe rack with each compartment occupied by a different pair for each occasion a person could name, and several long shelves stacked with hat boxes. A shining pinewood floor stretched across to the other wall, which was covered in ginormous floor length mirrors with thick golden frames. And, standing in the middle of it all, with a glittering chandelier hanging from the high ceiling above her head and Katherine’s handmaid Dina holding a dress against her, was Sarah, perched on top of a little pink stool.
“It’s going to go wonderfully,” Katherine reassured her from where she stood outside the closet, her back resting against the closed double doors. “By attending the annual World Gala, the Newsies are taking an important step towards finally being treated like the rest of the employees of the paper.”
“That being so-,” Sarah said, just as Dina finished sliding in the last pin and stepped back so Sarah could see herself in the mirror. She gasped, “Oh my goodness!” Katherine took that as her que to throw open the closet door and take a look at the finished product.
The dress was hung on Sarah’s shoulders by two short sleeves that connected to a scooped neckline that showed off her graceful neck and pronounced collar bone. The dress was a deep, brilliant blue, and cascaded down Sarah like a silky waterfall, narrowing at her waist and flowing back out around her hips and down to the light ruffles lined with white that strung out across the bottom of the skirt, hitting the floor like white caps against smooth rocks.
Needless to say, the dress was stunning.
“See!” Katherine dashed up to her friend and grabbed her hands. “I told you it’d be perfect! Look at you!” Sarah breathed out a happy chuckle, still very much in shock.
“She’s right,” Dina said from across the room in her light Irish accent. “It fits ya like a glove, M’dear.”
“And speaking of gloves,” Katherine scurried over to one of the wardrobes and opened it, and reaching to a shelf above the hanging dresses, pulled down a long purple box and walked back over to Sarah. She removed the lid and held the box out towards her friend. Sarah’s eyes widened even more. A pair of beautiful blue gloves to match the dress rested on top of some folded tissue paper. She looked at Katherine, who nodded to her, and delicately pulled them out of the box and slid them up to her elbow. She rolled her wrists around and turned her palms over. The gloves were so soft and so pretty. She turned to look back at herself in the mirror and gently slid her covered hands down the fabric of the dress. That couldn’t possibly be me, she thought. Her, skinny little Sarah Jacobs, in that very fancy blue dress with matching gloves, with a handmaiden standing next to her and the Katherine Pulitzer smiling at her, in a room that’s sole purpose was to house even more expensive dresses with matching gloves. It just couldn’t be real.
“Oh, Katherine! How can I possibly thank you! It’s-it’s…it’s like a dream!”

@deputyfangs confessed: 05. a peek inside their CLOSET & 10. a peek inside their PANTRY.
from: “ a peek inside... ” | no longer accepting
Tumblr media
CLOSET DRESSER — there is no traditional closet to be found in the walls of the small rectory, nor does the occupant’s wardrobe demand one. a wide six-drawer grain wood dresser will do, with brass handles and a smart dark stain to match the bed frame. a simple organization system is kept : one drawer for underwear ( socks, t-shirts, boxers and briefs all included ). another for lighter-weight cotton dress shirts, and even a few collared short-sleeves and polos. pants ( slacks, jeans, and the belts to match ) are at last neatly folded and piled into the bottom-left drawer. the first two compartments on the right side are dedicated to an array of thermals, sweaters, cardigans and light jackets, even a few heavy flannels. the bottom-right drawer is a sort of catch-all drawer for items used infrequently --- memento tourist-trap shirts from his travels in college and divinity school, his old college baseball uniform for the Columbia Lions, gag shirt gifts from his sisters and the like. otherwise, the wardrobe is a sea of dark and muted colors, a monochrome gradient that slowly ventures into blues and greens, even the odd crimson if he’s feeling a little more daring. but nothing ostentatious. his tastes are simple.
other clothing necessities are not found inside the drawer, but placed around the rest of the rectory. shoes and a pair of old wool slippers kept near the foot of the double-wide bed ( those boots that are muddied and yet to be scrubbed clean are left out on the porch ). his hat, heavier black coats, and a couple scarves ( knitted and gifted to him by Millie, of course ) hang from the rack by the main entryway. baseball gear is hung from a shelf by the bedroom doorway --- a Yankees ball cap. an umpire mask dating to the ‘50s. a mesh net filled with spare balls. polished wooden bats, resting upon the shelf. and an aged pitcher’s glove, given to him by his father when he made varsity in high school, kept in good condition even despite the decades of use. he takes great care of it, which is just as well - he refuses to ever pitch without it.
      holy vestments ( chasubles, robes, and cassocks alike ) are stored in the church sacristy, of course.
additional items of note are perched atop the dresser : an ever-revolving collection of the novels he’s currently renting from the mainland library, always including a copy of whatever he and Missus Gunning are reading for their weekly book club for two. a single beeswax candle mounted on a brass chamber stick. a thin family photo album. a small wooden box with a gold latch, filled with more personal memories from his childhood and up into his years at divinity school --- mostly photos with family and friends. little keepsakes from his travels abroad. and a few collector’s rosaries and glass vials of holy water, blessed by Pope while visiting the Vatican. finally, there’s a Smith-Corona Brand electric typewriter. the SuperCorrect Electra model dates back to the mid-1980s. it is the most recent piece of technology he owns.
Tumblr media
PANTRY — a full kitchen pantry is just as important as a well-stocked fridge, especially for a single man with twice the appetite of most of his married neighbors. of course, there’s the cookware : a couple stainless steel pots and pans, but he’s partial to cast iron and copper, reflected by the vast majority of his modest collection. some piled on shelves, others hung from the hooks he installed on the inside of the cabinet doors. a couple are a bit off-center, a little crooked if you squint. another keeps colliding with the edge of the shelf, the cabinet now always propped ever so slightly ajar.
one of the shelves is home to the many mason jars and plastic tubs he calls tupperware. those currently not in use are stacked in a nesting-doll-fashion, largest to smallest. another holds his plates, bowls, cups, glasses. a full set each. he might not need many himself, but there’s many a time he’s hosted guests for lunch or dinner, both expected and unexpected. it’s sinful, after all, to allow anyone to leave the home hungry. and yet another shelf holds the rest of his mug and kettle collection that isn’t displayed around the counter, and a 1971 vintage 3.5 qt. Rival-brand crock-pot, in the shade of avocado green. a gift from his mother --- he didn’t ask for it, but with how busy her son gets she insisted on purchasing one and bringing it to him on a visit. a handy thing really, even if he often fights to find the time to cook. on a slow and sleepy island, there are still days where “setting it and forgetting it” comes in handy.
the stock of food continues to reflect the family traditions, just as the refrigerator does. tastes acquired, ingredients considered staple. lidded jars of arborio rice, lentils, cannellini beans, and cornmeal ( coarsely ground, the polenta is never firm enough otherwise ) are never allowed to fall below half-way full. tucked behind them are the containers of various dried mushrooms, to be kept in the cool and dark corners of the cabinet, able to be hydrated in a pinch. when one thinks they purchased enough mushrooms for the sauce, that’s when one needs more. the shelf of wine is split by the half - the left holds those bottles for social drinking, some store-bought but the greater majority home-distilled from the vines in the garden. those on the right are reserved for cooking ( or to be sipped upon by the chef ) - vermouth, marsala, madeira, and a variety of the drier whites and reds that add depth to a stew lacking a proper recipe. the liquors form the barrier between both sides. grappa. limoncello. a bottle each of his favorite tequila and gin. and the remaining unopened stock of olives and peperoncini.
there are bundles of fresh herbs, garlic bulbs, onions, shallots, and a full rope of calabrian chilis spanning the length one of one cabinet door. there are various Campbell’s canned soups can be used as a dish foundation, or as a quick read-to-heat meal if he’s really pressed for time. there’s flour. sugar. baking soda and powder. there’s bouillon cubes. chicken and beef stock. there are cans of San Marzano tomatoes, whole and peeled, the only respectable base for any red sauce. there are storage pillars of coffee and espresso beans, now in need of a refill after a busy week. stacked tins of various teas. a manual coffee grinder. and the last item of note is a sewing tin, home to the pizzicati, cioffee, and various biscotti sent to him by his Zias on a near-monthly basis. even from miles away, they’re hellbent on overfeeding him.

Summer of Jily Week 4
It's week 4 for @efkgirldetective's Summer of Jily challenge! You sure did send me for a loop with this one, but I've managed to keep the one-shots turned multi chap story going!
This week's prompts: Picking Berries and "I know I kissed you before, but I didn't do it right."
Read on AO3
************
James didn’t sleep at all that night. He couldn’t stop thinking about the carnival. His thoughts shifted between being mad at Sirius for winning that damn prize and presenting it to Lily—that was his stupid, cheesy plan that his best mate had hijacked—and the Ferris wheel ride.
About saving your letters or waiting for you to ask me out?
How could he have been so thick? And how is it that he keeps royally mucking things up? He’d had the perfect opportunity to kiss Lily right there on the ride, but then it had to move again, and he’d gotten sidetracked at the feeling of flying on a muggle contraption.
Hadn’t he come along with the boys to crash the girls trip so he could spend more time with Lily? He’d devised the perfect opportunity to sweep her off her feet, and he swore to himself he would only ask her out if she made it blatantly obvious that she wanted him to. As much as it killed him, he’d rather not lose her friendship over pressing her one too many times.
But now, she had made it clear that she was waiting for him to make a move, and what does he do instead? Lets her walk away after the sunrise, hits her with a ball by the lake, and then avoids her throughout the entire carnival until their friends force them to share a compartment on that bloody ride.
He’d had the perfect opportunity to kiss her right there, to ask her to be his girlfriend, and what does he do instead? Freezes. James Potter, master of smooth pick-up lines, carefree, easy-going Gryffindor heartthrob (says the Hogwarts gossip circle, not that he pays attention to any of that—why would he when he’s got his heart set on one girl?) freezes.
Well, he didn’t totally freeze. After they’d apparated back to the cabin, he and Lily were the last two in the sitting area before they went to bed. He walked her to the door of the girl’s room and kissed her on the cheek before bidding her goodnight.
It had taken all of his willpower to not pull her into his arms and snog her senseless after her confession earlier that evening. Yet, after seeing her disappointed face before she shut the door to the bedroom, he wished he had. She’d thrown his entire game off, and he needed to fix it before he lost his chance with Lily for good.
Resigning himself to the fact that he was awake to see another sunrise, James dragged himself out of bed and picked up his glasses on the nightstand before stepping around the mattress on the floor where Peter currently snored away. He grabbed the nearest shirt he could find and threw it on before slipping out of the bedroom.
It was lighter out than he was expecting, meaning he’d probably missed the sunrise. The boys preferred to sleep in pitch black, but the spell they cast on the window the night before was fading, allowing the daybreak to sift through and consequently throwing off his sense of time. He started the coffee pot and leaned against the counter while he waited for the pot to brew.
Caffeine would be necessary to stay awake today, or maybe he could sneak a nap in at some point. Hell, maybe he’d be able to convince Lily to join him for said nap. He could think of plenty of things they could get up to whilst they were in bed together. James let his mind wander to thoughts of getting to know her in a more intimate setting. The kind that he’d often wank to when he needed a release.
The rich smell of dark roast wafted through the living area. James forced his thoughts away from images of Lily writhing beneath him as he reached for a mug. He only barely heard the click of a door as he pulled the pot off to pour himself a cup.
“Another early morning?”
James looked up to see Lily standing there, her hair messy from sleep. She ran her fingers through it in an attempt to comb it out. The green of her eyes were barely visible under still somewhat droopy eyelids. Something stirred within him, and despite the fact that he was only seventeen, it was a view he knew he could get used to.
“That would imply I slept. I hope I didn’t wake you.”
“No, but I couldn’t resist the smell of coffee. Why couldn’t you sleep?”
“Peter’s snoring reached new levels last night.”
The lie slipped off his lips with ease, although it wasn’t altogether convincing. A simple Muffliato charm would have allowed him the peace and quiet he needed to fall asleep. Her skeptical look wasn’t lost on him as he absent-mindedly began fixing the cup he’d poured with the amount of milk and sugar Lily preferred. He wasn’t aware he was doing it until he handed it to her.
“Thanks,” she said. “Since when do you know how I take my coffee?”
“Come on, Evans, you don’t think I’ve noticed? Some things stick after eating breakfast with someone over the last year.” James smirked.
He grabbed another mug from the cabinet and poured his own cup without adding anything to it. James blew over the dark brown liquid to help cool it off as he watched Lily take a minuscule sip of her own.
“That’s fair. I still don’t know how you can drink yours black.”
“Some say I’m sweet enough on my own.” The quip was automatic as Lily laughed at his humor.
Merlin, her laugh is infectious. James swore the reason he said half of the stuff he did was so he could hear her laugh.
“Do you want to go for a walk?”
The question came from nowhere, but the early morning was so peaceful that he wanted to experience it with her, preferably hand in hand.
“Sure.”
They left their coffee mugs abandoned on the Formica as they headed to the door and slid on their shoes. Lily grabbed a jacket off the coat rack and zipped it up halfway. James closed the door quietly behind him then led her over to the trail he and the boys explored yesterday. The path wasn’t terribly long, but it ended up in a quiet and secluded area where the lake met pebbled terrain.
“So, was the dolphin a good sleeping partner?” James’s voice cut through the light layer of morning fog.
Lily chuckled. “I don’t know, I let Marly sleep with him instead.”
“Ah, Sirius will be heartbroken if he learns of your betrayal.” His words were meant to be a joke, yet they didn’t come across as lighthearted as he’d hoped.
“Well, good thing you won’t tell him. Right?” Lily’s questioning eyes made James’s heart skip a beat.
“I suppose I can keep your secret, Evans, but it’ll cost you.”
“Oh? And what might that price be, Potter?”
The green of the trees and shrubbery only enhanced the sparkle that glinted in her eyes. James wondered if she was testing him. Shouldn’t she know by now that he never backed down from a challenge?
“Ditch your friends and spend the day with me instead.”
“Like a date?”
“Yes, Evans, like a date.”
“Well, good thing we’re getting an early start. Now we can make the most of the day.”
James grinned at Lily’s acceptance as they continued down the trail.
They were nearly at the clearing by the water when Lily stopped, causing James to turn around. “Is this the path you and the boys were on yesterday afternoon?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Well, when Mary asked if you found anything interesting, you said no.”
“Because there isn’t…”
“That’s not true! Look at the blackberry bushes over there!”
James’s head turned to the direction Lily was pointing at, and sure enough, there were several bushes, low to the ground and full of clumps of blackberries. Lily bent down to pick a few off the branches.
“How do you know they’re blackberries and not nightshade or something?”
“Honestly, Potter, did you not pay attention when Sprout taught that unit on edible plants and where to find them in the wilderness?”
“No? Guess I was a bit distracted.”
“Nightshade grows off the stem in one circle. They look more like blueberries, except they’re shinier and darker. Blackberries have all the little bumps on them like this. Almost like a raspberry, but a different color.”
Lily picked a handful of berries during her explanation and stood when she was finished. James saw her holding them delicately in an effort to stop them staining her hands. Using her forefinger and thumb, she picked one up and held it to James’s mouth.
“Try it.”
James opened his mouth and let her place the berry on his tongue. He locked eyes with her as his lips closed around her fingers. An explosion of flavor bursts on his tongue as he bit down on the fruit. The tartness caused him to squint and pucker his lips slightly. Lily smiled at his reaction as she popped a couple berries in her mouth.
She was right—they tasted way better when picked fresh. He held out his hand for more, and she gave him a couple to munch on as they continued walking through the woods. James’s brain was fixated on the way she fed him as his feet moved him forward. Their hands grazed against each other, and James held on after the third bump. He felt her fingers intertwine with his as their steps aligned on the dirt path. As they inched their way toward the rocky clearing of the lake, a plan formed in his mind, and he knew exactly what he needed to do to match Lily’s brazenness of the night before and kick off their day-long date properly.
“Oh, wow,” she whispered as the trail gave way to the stunning view of the calm water ahead of them. The fog had settled across the still water, preventing them from seeing the other side of the lake.
“Lily—”
“Okay, the berries were one thing, but hiding this view from us? How—” Lily froze mid-sentence as comprehension dawned on her. “Did you just call me Lily?”
“Yeah, I did, but please go on about how we didn’t tell you about this.”
“No, I think I’d rather hear what you have to say instead.”
“You sure? I know how much you love being able to prove us wrong.”
James paused, waiting for Lily’s reaction. He loved riling her up like this. The way he alluded to something but then held it just out of her grasp to ensure that she truly wanted to know what he had to say. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he waited.
“What do you mean, am I sure? Would I have asked you to tell me if I wasn’t?”
He thought about keeping up with the banter, but he was tired of waiting.
“That’s fair. Look, I know I kissed you before—y’know, last night—but I didn’t do it right, and I’d like to make up for that right now if you’ll let me.”
There was a sharp intake of air, and if James could pat himself on the back for catching Lily off-guard, he would. But she regained her composure before shooting a challenging look in his direction.
“Since when does James Potter ask permission before kissing a girl? I thought he—how did Sirius put it? Sets his eyes on what he wants and goes for it?”
James chuckled and cringed at the same time, remembering how Sirius explained James’s intentions during fifth year.
“Well, as true as that may be, I still try to be a gentleman about it. I’d never make an unwanted advance if that’s what you’re implying.”
“Interesting, considering I thought I made it clear what I wanted last night.”
Were his eyes playing tricks on him, or did Lily just take a tiny step forward?
“Is that so?”
“It is. And it sounds like you’re stalling.”
“Please, Evans, you’d know when I’d be stalling.”
“What are you waiting for, then?”
The words barely escaped her mouth, James didn’t waste any more time as his hands lifted to cup Lily’s face. He leaned in and captured her lips with his, the tangy taste of the berries still lingering on her mouth. Everything about Lily’s lips were soft and inviting as her hands found a home on his lower back. He felt her mouth open slightly as her teeth grazed his bottom lip, eliciting a small moan from his mouth.
James deepened the kiss as his tongue swiped across her lips. Her hands pushed him closer as her mouth widened, inviting him to explore. A quack in the distance was the only thing that reminded them where they were, as James slowly broke away. She was more beautiful than he remembered, with her lips swollen from his kiss and the dazed look of bliss on her face.
“Well, I’m used to ending the date with a kiss, not starting it,” her words were breathless.
James chuckled at Lily’s words. “Am I to take that as a good or bad thing?”
“Good. Very good.”
“And just imagine, we’ve got the whole day ahead of us now.”
“This is true. Should we head back and get ready for the rest of the day?”
“Sounds brilliant.”
James had no idea what they were going to do for the day, but he planned on making the most of their time spent together. Nothing could go wrong.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Suga quietly opened the door of his home and stepped inside, taking off his shoes before he entered the kitchen. He saw a plate on the table, on it laid a little piece of paper that wrote 'Made some dinner, got called in for work. Love you sweetie.' He smiled slightly at the note, making a mental note to thank his mother in the morning. Suga looked at the food on the plate in disinterest; he had no appetite.
He was drained.
He lazily put the unopened plate of food in the fridge, hitching his bag up higher onto his shoulder as he padded up the stairs to his room. Upon entering, he tossed his gym bag to the floor. Sighing, he laid down onto the soft comforter of his bed, turning his head to look at the night sky through his window. Closing his eyes, a memory of a night just like this started to replay in his head.
**flashback**
I still remember, the third of December
Suga sat on his bed, staring at the stars as they glittered in the night sky. Soft footsteps were heard behind him, the bed dipping as the weight from another body came in contact with it.
"Whatchya lookin' at, Suga?" Daichi asked, shifting his weight so he was propped up next to him on the bed. Suga could feel the small flutters in his chest that had slowly started to reveal themselves more and more the past few weeks. They always arose whenever Daichi was near, causing him to knead his fingers together in nervousness- or was it excitement? He couldn't tell.
"The stars, Daichi," he said, eyes twinkling as he was mesmerized by the small lights in the sky, eyes scouring to find constellations he had read about. A light breeze blew through the open window, causing Suga to shiver slightly as the cold air brushed over his skin. The bed lifted up as Daichi walked over to his bag, unbeknownst to the gray-haired setter who was still entranced with the celestial display in front of him.
Suga slightly jumped as a jacket was placed over his shoulders, the familiar lingering scent of cologne and earthy smells invaded his senses.
"Don't even try and act like you're not cold," Daichi said, a slight chuckle in his words as he made his way back to the bed. The flutters had grown even more now; Suga had to stop himself from just bunching up the fabric towards his nose and breathing in Daichi's smell. Instead, he put his arms through the sleeves, tugging the warm material around his body.
Me in your sweater
Suga looked over to Daichi, blushing slightly as he noticed the brown-headed captain staring at him. His fingers twiddled with the fabric of the jacket, a sign of nervousness that he hoped Daichi hadn't caught onto yet. He gave his best friend a small smile, ignoring the painfully prominent flutters in his chest as he looked into his eyes.
"Y'know, that looks better on you than it does me," the captain said, a grin tugging at the corner of his lips as he eyed the setter in his volleyball jacket. Suga's cheeks flamed as he turned away from Daichi's gaze, hoping he hadn't seen the effect his comment had on him. Even so, a small smile made it's way onto his face.
You said it looked better on me than it did you
**end of flashback**
Suga closed his curtains, blocking his view of the stars he used to love so much. Everything lately had just seemed so much dimmer. That memory was painful and caused his heart to ache. He tried to forget. He tried, he really did-but those damn flutters would never go away.
"Only if you knew how much I liked you."
He whispered the words into the night as he pulled a pillow up to his face, squeezing it hard against his chest. Silent sobs racked through him and tears escaped his eyes one after the other, the only sounds in the room being his quiet sniffles and muffled cries. He couldn't help but think back to how simple everything was then; so much easier to handle. All he had to do was keep his feelings in check whenever he was around Daichi.
Now he had the watch the man he loved be swept away by Yuu Michimiya.
But I see your eyes as she walks by
Suga first noticed the connection between Daichi and Michimiya one day in the hallway. The two were putting their outside shoes into the small lockers that were provided for them at the school. They were talking about the training camp that was approaching, joking about how they were going to have to keep a close eye on Bokuto this time because he might steal Hinata if they weren't careful. Daichi laughed at a comment Suga had made, causing those damn flutters to erupt in his chest once again.
Turning his head to the side to crack another joke to Daichi, his words got caught in his throat. Daichi had completely zoned out of their conversation, eyes widened slightly as he stared at an approaching figure walking down the hallway. Suga slowly trailed his eyes to where he was staring, and when they reached the cause of that look in Daichi's eyes, he could feel his heart shatter into a million tiny little pieces.
What a sight for sore eyes
Suga had watched as the short-haired brunette walked by the two, the feeling of rage almost overpowering the poker face he held as he saw the black material that hung around the girl's shoulders. His hands had clenched into fists near his chest, the butterflies now replaced with wasps that stung at his stomach. When he turned back towards his friend, he crumbled.
Daichi's eyes held the same look towards her that Suga's did when he was looking at the stars.
Brighter than the blue sky
After the scene played out before him, he turned back to his locker and angrily shoved his shoes into the compartment. Tears threatened to fall from his eyes as he heard Michimiya say a small and polite 'Hi Daichi' in his direction. Suga hung his head in sorrow.
'Why can't you just look at ME that way?' He despaired, slamming his locker shut and walking quickly to his class, ignoring the confused shouts from his bestfriend.
She's got you mesmerized,
Suga had sat at his desk trying desperately to pay attention to whatever the teacher was lecturing about, but he couldn't. His brain was running at a quick pace, replaying the look Daichi had in his eyes over and over again. It was like his own personal broken record, one that made his gut clench every time it scratched and replayed.
'How could I have been so naive?' He thought, holding his shaking hands in his lap to keep from drawing attention to himself. He kept his eyes locked onto his paper in an attempt to calm himself down.
It hadn’t worked.
But just as Suga thought he was going to explode, a small piece of paper was slid onto his desk. He shakily lifted a hand up to grab the folded sliver of paper and opened it as quietly as he could. Suga let out a breath he didn't know he was holding as he re-read the words written on the paper.
'Breathe. I'm right here if you need me. Go to the bathroom and splash some water on your face. ~Asahi'
He had given a grateful smile to his long-haired friend and received a small one in return. Asahi was right, he needed a small break. Just a small break to clear his mind. Suga walked to the bathroom, making his way over to the sink where he cupped his hands under the cold rush of water from the tap. He splashed the water onto his face, relished in the contrast between it and his burning face.
He backed away from the sink after turning off the tap, resting his back against the wall of one of the stalls. As much as he wanted to stop thinking about him, that one night couldn't stop replaying in his head. He laced his fingers into his hair and slightly pulled, the pain barely being felt as he was pulled deeper into heartbreak.
While I die.
He dug his palms into his eyes, trying to stop the overflowing of tears as he replayed what happened that night again in his head.
**flashback**
Daichi and Suga made their way down the sidewalk. They always walked each other home, but tonight was different. Sorrow, despair and defeat hung in the air around the two. They had been defeated by Aoba Johsai today in the Inter High Prelims. As third years, and more importantly to Daichi as their captain, they felt as though they had let the team down.
Not a word was spoken between the two, the only sound coming from the footsteps on the pavement. Suga felt horrible-hell, he felt like the world was hitting him with bricks. There were no words that could console him, or Daichi for that matter. All he could do was try to be consoling with his presence. He felt useless.
Suga had his head hung low, eyes unfocused onto his steps. It was like he wasn't even there, just a body moving at an automated pace. He snapped back into reality as he walked straight into Daichi's slightly taller figure. He raised his head for the first time since they left the bus stop, eyes wandering up towards where his best friend stood in front of him.
"I don't deserve to be captain.”
Suga's heart broke hearing the sorrowed tone of Daichi's voice. He sounded like his heart had been ripped from his body. Placing a gentle hand on his shoulder, Suga turned Daichi around to where they stood face to face. What he saw made new fresh tears spring to his eyes.
Daichi's eyes were red and swollen, tears slipping down his face silently as he looked at Suga in despair. The shorter third year immediately flung his body into the brunette's chest, wrapping his arms tightly around him.
"You are the most humble, self-sacrificing and encouraging person I know, Daichi," Suga said, sniffling as tears spilled from his eyes onto the captain's shirt. "You have done so much for the team. You are the most deserving person of the title 'captain', so don't you ever let those words come out of your mouth again," he added on, tilting his head up to look Daichi straight in the eyes as he said the last sentence.
Suga bit his lip to keep from audibly sobbing as he looked into the older boy's eyes, meaning every word that he said. The flutters were there again in his chest, but he payed no mind.
Until Daichi pressed his lips onto his.
**end of flashback**
"Why would you ever kiss me? I'm not even half as pretty."
Suga had whispered the words into the air, finally saying out loud what he had been thinking. The words felt like they hung in the air, suffocating him as he tried shake them away. He took a couple of deep breaths, deciding that acting this way was no good. If Daichi had liked him back, then he wouldn't be looking that way towards Michimiya. Plain and simple. He had to come to terms with that.
But that didn't mean it didn't hurt him any less.
The bell rang outside, signaling that the previous period was over. Suga had exited the bathroom after checking his reflection on the mirror, wincing at his red, puffy eyes. 'Oh well,' he thought, trudging back to his class to get his bag and books.
"Hey Suga, I figured that you would be in there for a little while so I grabbed your things," Asahi said, giving him a small look of sympathy as he handed Suga his things. He gratefully took them from the ace's hands, muttering a small 'thank you' as he turned away from him.
"Are you okay, Suga?" Asahi questioned, the worry prominent in his tone. Suga winced at the question, not wanting to lie to his friend but also not wanting to make him worry more than he already was.
"Ah, um... I'm okay. Thank you for checking on me," He said, lifting his head up to give the taller boy an award-winning fake smile. If Asahi didn't believe his facade, he didn't comment on it. He just simply nodded and walked alongside Suga to the roof where they ate lunch together as a group.
When they had arrived, the one person Suga was planning on avoiding greeted them with a cheery smile. He felt his heart clench in his chest, looking downwards towards his feet as he grabbed the bento he made out of his bag. He sat down away from Daichi, making the older boy shoot him a questioning look that Suga ignored.
The door slammed open as the two rambunctious second years made their appearance. Noya immediately pounced on Daichi, yelling incoherent sentences as he grabbed his shoulders and slung him around.
"Can you please slow down so I can understand you?" Daichi said, struggling to pry Noya off of his shoulders.
"Okay, okay, okay, explain to me what is going on between you and Yuu Michimiya?" Noya said, a smirk prominent on his face as he questioned Daichi. Suga felt his heart sink. He didn't want to hear this, he really, really didn't. Just seeing her in the same jacket he wore that night made him want to puke.
"Nothing is 'going on' between us," the captain said, using air quotations with his fingers to signify the ridiculousness of Noya's question.
"You gave her your sweater,"
Tanaka butted in, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively at the brunette, who now had a faint tint of red covering his cheeks. Suga put down the piece of food he was about to put into his mouth, suddenly losing his appetite completely. His gut was wrenching in pain from the conversation he was hearing, the urge to run away becoming stronger with every passing moment.
"It's just polyester,"
Daichi finally said, making Suga's eyes snap in his direction. He couldn't believe what he had just heard.
‘It’s just polyester.’ Suga had thought incredulously, tears springing to his eyes as that broken record played over and over again in his mind.
He had decided he couldn't handle Noya and Tanaka teasing Daichi about his crush. Shoving his partially eaten bento box back into his bag, Suga practically bolted towards the door of the roof. He ignored the confused calls of his friends, slamming the door behind him. His breathing quickened with each stair he clambered down, tears blurring his vision the farther he distanced himself from the roof.
When he reached the bottom floor, Suga collapsed onto the floor under the stairs, hiccuping into his sleeve as he cried for what felt like the 10th time that day. 'It's just polyester? What the hell does he mean by that-did he even mean what he said to me?'
The thoughts going through Suga's head made him dizzy, his chest felt like a hole had been punched through it. What if he really didn't mean what he had said to him? His fist grabbed at the material of his shirt above his heart. 'No, he kissed me. That couldn't have meant nothing to him...'
Squeezing his eyes shut, hands starting to violently shake as the realization of his situation hit him like a ton of bricks.
But you like her better
Why did this have to happen to him? Why? Why did his heart have to choose the one person he could never have? Why couldn't he be the one Daichi was mesmerized by?
I wish I were Heather.
Now as Suga laid on his bed, he was still was broken as he was that day. Everything had gotten progressively worse and worse, leaving him drained day after day. He was unmotivated. Practices were a pain because he couldn't avoid Daichi when he was basically at his side the whole time. He had yet to meet his best friend's eyes since that day on the roof, but the hollow feeling in his chest stayed.
Suddenly the loud ringtone of his phone filled the quiet room, startling him. He begrudgingly shuffled over to his gym bag, fiddling through the items to find the source of the noise. When he found it, he looked at the Caller ID, and his heart sank.
Incoming Call: Daichi Sawamura
He didn't want to talk to him. He had been avoiding him to the best of his ability, so why was he calling him? He took a deep breath, and clicked the accept button.
"Hey, get some clothes on. I'm headed over to your house, I'm taking you to a party. See ya in a few!" Suga tried to tell Daichi there was no way he was going to a party, especially with him, but he heard the 'click' of the call ending. He ran his hands through his hair in frustration. A party was the last thing he wanted to do, but he knew that when his best friend was set on something, there was nothing Suga could say or do to stop him.
He groaned, wiping his hands down his face. 'Let's just get this over with.'
Opening his closet to pick out some different clothes to change into, he decided to just put on some darker jeans, a plain lavender t-shirt, and a black zip-up hoodie. He had no desire to look good; After all, the only person he wanted to look at him was out of the picture.
As he tied the laces on his shoes, he heard the front door open. "Suga! Let's go! Kuroo called and told me the party already started!" Daichi yelled from downstairs, making Suga groan. He was definitely dreading this. He made his way down the stairs and passed Daichi who was standing right outside the door.
"You ready?" He questioned, not receiving an answer. Suga walked straight by him, rolling his eyes as he closed the door behind him. Daichi looked at him questioningly, not knowing why he was giving him the cold shoulder. They got into the car in silence, reminding Suga of the day after the Sejoh match. He shuddered, not wanting to play through that memory again. The pieces of his heart had yet to be mended, but despite that he felt the little flutters in his chest that he now hated.
He hated that he still felt the same way after all this time. He was still in love with Daichi, even after knowing that Michimiya was the one he longed after.
Suga sighed, putting his hands into his pockets as the house came into view. "You know what?" Suga started, still looking ahead at the road. "What?" Daichi questioned, happy that his best friend was finally talking to him after what had seemed like forever.
Suga faltered. He really didn't know where he thought he was going with this conversation.
'Did you really think that telling him now would be a good idea? Wow, you really are pathetic,'
He clenched his fists in his pockets. He wanted to tell Daichi how much pain he was in, how much he wanted him. But he couldn't.
"Nevermind," he finally muttered out, getting out of the car and walking up the steps to the house, opening the door. He heard Daichi sputter out a response, ultimately snapping his mouth shut when he realized Suga wasn't going to listen. The setter was greeted with loud music and the strong smell of alcohol and sweat. He spotted Kuroo and Bokuto in the living room playing beer pong against Terushima and Iwazumi.
"Hey hey hey!" Bokuto yelled as he saw the two walk in the door, Daichi giving him a bro hug and Suga giving him a small wave. "What's up guys? Here, have a drink," Terushima said, holding out two cups filled with god knows what to the two.
Suga politely declined his offer, while Daichi took one of the cups. In a moment Kuroo had taken the other cup out of Terushima's hand and chugged it, yelling afterwards.
'I already want to leave'
Suga walked over to a more secluded place in the house. He closed his eyes for a moment, the booming music reverberating through his ears. As he opened his eyes, he locked onto two figures sitting on the couch.
Watch as she stands with her holding your hand
Suga's world crashed down yet again. He watched as Micimiya sat down on the couch and reached over to hold Daichi's hand, giggling as he said something to her.
Put your arm round her shoulder, now I'm getting colder
Daichi placed his arm around her shoulder, making a small, giddy smile grace her features. Suga crossed his arms over his body, wishing he could just disappear. It was enough just knowing that they were together, but actually seeing them act like a couple right in front of his eyes caused the pain in his chest to grow tenfold. The room felt like it was closing in on him, making his breaths become shallower.
He glanced back up at the two, cringing again as he noticed the jacket she was wearing. He wanted to hate her. He wanted to so bad, but he just couldn't. Yuu Michimiya was no doubtedly perfect. Short, athletic, and beautiful. How could he beat that?
But how can I hate her? She's such an angel.
He grit his teeth together in anger, tightly gripping the material of his shirt in his fingers. Even if she was perfect in every way, he couldn't help himself from imagining what his life would be like if Yuu Michimiya just didn't exist.
But then again, kinda wish she were dead
Suga barely noticed a presence beside him as he was lost in his own thoughts. "Hey Mr. Refreshing," the figure said in a sing-song voice, and Suga didn't need to look to know who the voice belonged to. "Hello Oikawa,” he breathed out, resting his head onto the wall behind him. He couldn't help but let his eyes trail back to the two on the couch.
He noticed Oikawa settle back onto the wall beside him. The great king followed Suga's eyes until he understood what was making his fellow setter so upset. Suga watched as Michimiya said something to Daichi and rose from her sitting position on the couch.
As she walks by,
Suga couldn't help the sneer that overcame his face as she walked in front of the two, eyes staring at the jacket wrapped around her small body. Oikawa chuckled a little, watching as Suga practically killed the girl with his eyes.
"What are you laughing at?" Suga snapped out, looking annoyingly at the cocky setters face.
"What a sight for sore eyes,"
"Shut up Oikawa," he said, rolling his eyes. He started to walk away but a hand snatched out and grabbed his wrist.
"Here, drink this. It'll help you feel better," the brunette said, holding out a red solo cup just as Terushima previously had before. Suga contemplated it, mumbling a 'fuck it' and downing the bitter liquid in one go. He coughed a little and whiped his mouth, sighing as he felt the alcohol make it's way through his body.
Brighter than the blue sky
He deserved a drink. He deserved to be relieved of this hollow feeling in his chest. If getting drunk meant that he could forget Daichi, that his mind would stop playing that broken record over and over again, that those stupid flutters would go away, then getting drunk it was.
She's got you mesmerized,
"Come with me," Oikawa suddenly said, grabbing Suga's forearm and pulling him in the direction of a flight of stairs. The grey-haired boy sputtered out some words of confusion, but Oikawa still walked at a fast pace up the stairs, not faltering for a second to answer his questions.
Oikawa opened the door to what Suga decided was a bedroom, quickly shutting the door behind them when they entered. "Oikawa, what are we doing up h-"
He was cut off mid-sentence by Oikawa forcefully pressing his lips onto his.
While I die.
Suga placed his hands on Oikawa's chest, pushing him off of himself. "What are you doing?" He sputtered out, looking incredulously at the taller boy. Oikawa stepped closer to him, making Suga take a step back, his back hitting the door they just came in. The brunette placed his right leg between Suga's, bending down slightly to look him in the eyes.
"I know you're in pain. I can see it in your eyes," he said, reaching up to cup Suga's cheek in his palm, "let me help you forget, even if it's just for a little bit," he whispered, lips lightly grazing over Suga's.
He didn't have the chance to speak before Oikawa's lips were back on his, but this time, he didn't push him away. Instead he kept his hands on the taller boy's chest, slowly moving his lips along with his.
Why would you ever kiss me?
'Maybe he's right, I just need to let him help me,' Suga thought as his hands ran through Oikawa's hair, tugging at the strands lightly.
I'm not even half as pretty,
Oikawa licked Suga's bottom lip, asking for permission before letting his tongue slip into Suga's mouth. The shorter boy ignored the fact that he didn't once feel the flutters in his chest whenever Oikawa kissed him.
'This is the only way to get over him, you saw her down there! She was wearing his jacket, he's not yours,'
You gave her your sweater, it's just polyester,
Oikawa moved down from his lips to place sloppy kisses onto his neck, leaving Suga to take in deep rugged breaths. In his gut he knew this was wrong, so wrong, but the need to forget his sorrows overpowered that gut feeling. Daichi didn't like him, and here Oikawa was, offering to help him.
But you like her better,
Suga let out a slight moan as he felt Oikawa's hands slip under his shirt, hot fingertips running over his body left goosebumps in their wake. He closed his eyes, trying to relish in the feeling of the hot kisses the brunette was placing on his torso, but before he knew it, he imagined Daichi was the one kissing him.
“If you want me to stop I will.
“No, it’s fine. I’m fine. Keep going, please.”
Suga didn't realize his phone was buzzing over and over again with texts from his best friend, asking where he was.
I wish I were Heather.
Downstairs, Daichi sat on the couch with his phone is his hands. Suga wasn't responding to any of his texts, making him worried. One second he was standing against the wall talking to Oikawa, and the next they were both gone. Daichi glanced over as Tanaka sat next to him, muttering a simple 'hi'.
"Hey Daichi, where's Michimiya?" Tanaka questioned, but he wasn’t really paying attention. He was too worried about whether Suga was okay, contemplating going to look for him.
He shrugged his shoulders in response to Tanaka's question, not really concerned at all as to where the girl was.
Right as he was about to get up and search for the missing setter, he appeared in front of him. Suga had his eyes downcast, grey hair hanging in front of his eyes.
"Can we leave?" Suga questioned, his voice quiet.
"Sure."
~~~~~~~~~~~
The car ride was silent. Suga was looking out the window at the night sky, the stars still shining bright as they made their way down the road.
He felt numb.
He still hadn't processed what happened with Oikawa, feeling that it was better to just act like it never happened. But that hollow feeling was still ever-present.
"Alright, talk," Daichi suddenly said, making Suga jump slightly, "You've been acting weird, so what's up?"
Suga felt his heart drop. Daichi had noticed his behavior towards him. Inside his head he was panicking, breaths quickening as he kneaded his hands together. Taking a deep breath, he finally decided to say what was on his mind.
"Why would you ever kiss me? I'm not even half as pretty,"
The night after the Sejoh game flashed in his mind.
"You gave her your sweater,”
he scoffed a little, adding
“It’s just polyester,”
As Daichi listened to the words he immediately pulled over to the side of the road and parked the car.
He turned to look at Daichi, tears now silently spilling down his face.
"But you like her better,"
He looked down at his hands, feeling defeated.
"I wish I were-"
His sentence was cut off as Daichi placed a hand under his chin, kissing him deeply. His eyes widened for a moment, slowly closing as he melted into the kiss.
Daichi pulled away after a moment, wiping Suga's tears away from his cheeks, his own fresh ones sliding down his face.
"I'm so sorry Suga. I had convinced myself you would never feel for me the way I did for you. Michimiya was a distraction, a horrible one at that.”
Daichi paused to wipe his tears, thumb hovering lightly over Suga’s cheek.
“I should have told you about my feelings instead of being a complete douche,” he said, the two laughing lightly at the comment.
“Yea, you should have.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You should be.”
“Can I be forgiven?”
“Only if I get that jacket back.”
Suga genuinely smiled for what felt like the first time in months. Daichi put his lips to his again softly. “Of course. It was always yours to begin with anyway.”

I got exhausted just putting my summer cloths to the front of my cloths and winter/Fall cloths to the back. It would be much better if I had a rotating closet. I bet Bill at one point had a rotating Closet or got one for Tiger because between him buying her cute things he sees that he can't resist and her buying things once in awhile their closet could fill quickly. And throwing things out seems such a waste.
I love this because I have so many conflicting thoughts--on the one hand, I feel like Bill's inherent Swedishness means he has 8 articles of carefully chosen clothing, 2 jackets, one coat, and precisely 3 pairs of shoes. That's it. That's his whole wardrobe. Maybe two belts but he only ever wears one. And tiger laughs, because she has never seen anyone own such a minimal amount of clothing but always look so fantastic. Most of what he wears on red carpets is borrowed, Bill doesn't really own a suit otherwise. And meanwhile, tiger's drawers and closets are all bursting with clothes and every once in awhile he'll hear her excited squeal because she found a shirt that she had totally forgotten she had.
But on the other hand, I recognize that Bill is Hollywood and frequently gets gifts or in general has a large wardrobe because he has to. And tiger still laughs, because he has 27 shirts that all look the exact same. His wardrobe is white, grey and black--with the odd burnt orange or forest green in there, a nice cognac brown. And his wardrobe is extensive--extensive enough for him to have a rotating closet that is impeccably organized, but all of it just looks....identical.
But I think the more likely scenario is that Bill is just growing a little tired of all of his drawers and every single closet real estate being taken over with tiger's bomb of a wardrobe. Tiger isn't the most organized person in the world just because she doesn't really value minutiae, it's not about the details with her. She's all abut the crumple-and-stuff method and Bill carefully steams, hangs up, or pristinely folds his clothes and categories them so he can always find exactly what he's looking for. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and his clothes take up a modest 1/4 of it, and tiger's mess is the other 3/4. It slowly drives him insane.
So maybe one day when tiger is away on a business trip for a little bit, maybe Bill has some work done. The closet in the master bedroom and the spare bedroom share a wall and hell, the spare bedroom doesn't need a closet. So he gets a crew in, they knock down some walls, install some ambient lighting, install some shelves, a few rotating racks and some accessory compartments. And this? This is Bill's heaven. He spends the next few days meticulously organizing her wardrobe--washing everything, steaming it, hanging it up, categorizing it. He gets rid of all her socks that don't match until he realizes it's literally all of her socks so he gets her some new ones--and they go in a drawer separated with small compartments for each pair. He lays her jewelry out on the velvet-lined drawers in the accessories corner. He hangs her clothes according to season, and then according to colour. Business on one rotating rack, casual on the other. He takes his time, plays some soft jazz, and just gets high off the organization. He's immensely proud of his work.
And when tiger gets home, her Big Dude is practically bouncing on his heels as he grabs her hand.
"I have a surprise for you," he says, kissing her sweetly and then pulling her to the bedroom. He places his hands over her eyes.
"No peeking," he instructs. And then he walks her forward into the new space, and moves his hands.
"Ta-da!"
Tiger's eyes go wide, and she pauses.
"Holy fuck," she says, "What about the other closet?"
"No need for it," he shrugs, "There's drawers there."
She takes a few steps in, her fingers tracing over her clothes, and she jumps a mile when he presses the button on the rotating rack.
"It spins!" he says giddily.
"Did you do this?" she asks with a smile, "Organize this whole thing?"
He nods.
"So I can yell at you when I can't find something then?" she smirks, "There was an order in my chaos."
"No there wasn't and we both know it," he points accusingly at her. She steps forward and kisses the tip of his finger.
"Walk me through the method bud," she says, "What's going on here?"
"This rack is business," he motions to the rack in front of her, "To the right is spring and summer, and then the coloured divider and that's fall and winter. It's categorized by colour."
She nods.
"And over here," he motions to the other rack, "Is casual wear. Same system of separation and also divided by colour."
He walks her over to a system of drawers.
"Underwear and socks are the drawers on the left. Accessories are on the right," he says.
"Shoes?" she asks.
"Where would you want them to be?" he asks, but he rolls his eyes at her clueless look, "In the stand up compartment beside the socks, tiger."
She opens it and lets out a low whistle--all of her shoes are lined up and separated into sneakers, flats, and heels. But as she closes the door, something catches her eye. A small area in the corner, a silk red sheet draped from the ceiling to the floor to hide the area.
"And over there?" she asks. Bill grins mischievously, heading over to it.
"Over here," he says, and he whips back the curtain, "Is the naughty corner."
And all of her sets of lingerie, perfectly hung up on hangers with their stockings and corsets, line a small rack. Tiger spots a few new sets that she definitely didn't buy before she left, and Bill blushes a little. He's not about to tell her he had a raging hard on when organizing this section, picturing her in every single one of the outfits he was hanging up.
"Thank you Billy, I love it," she says with a sweet kiss.
"You're not mad?" he asks, and she shakes her head.
"Just impressed," she smirks, "Tell you what, though. You deserve something for this hard work. I'm going to go shower, but why don't you pick something out from the naughty area and put it in the bathroom?"
He nods enthusiastically, and with another kiss, she heads to freshen up. Sure enough when she steps out of the shower he placed his favourite set--definitely the Merida one--and tiger is also amused that he left a tube of her darkest, blood red lipstick on top of the set--his favourite.
