I don't interact with the HSR community so I'm just going to put the 2.2 spoilers here just in case because I'm so mad. I'm genuinely upset with the story. This is why I've had to take breaks going through Penacony it makes me feel like my brain is leaking and I need to rant about this at ass-o'clock

We got on Penacony and they were like "well nobody really knows all that much about the Watchmaker so like lol go find out" and then they took forever to get there.

I walked onto Penacony, looked straight at Misha, and went "what are you talking about I'm done I've found him what else do you want from me, can Dan Heng come back and play yet" because you're telling me they finally dropped us on Penacony with a storyline about "The Watchmaker's Legacy" and also just a guy with a pocket watch we hang out with in a weird dream place and thought they were being subtle? Why do I have to sit through all of this. Give us a skip button.

Repeatedly hammering information into the dialogue doesn't make for a good story, a good twist, a good hint, or even good character development/backstory reveals. There is no subtlety here. The only "mysteries" we have are just plot threads that they haven't given us any information about. Like "WOW WHAT'S THIS DEATH THING WOAHHHHHH" and then doing nothing about it until they're like "WHOOPS HAHA GALLAGHER DID IT??? WOW WHAT A SHOCK!" and then they're like "WOAH THAT'S SAM?????? CRAZY! I WONDER WHAT ELSE" and then dropping "SIKE THAT'S FIREFLY!" and now they're like "HEY REMEMBER MISHA HE WAS THE WATCHMAKER ALL ALONG ISN'T THAT WILD!" Where did the Gallagher-Death team come from? Why? There were no hints. Where did Sam being Firefly come from? Sure, having a Stellaron Hunter present makes sense, but what the fuck does this have to do with anything? I don't care. (Seeing Blade in a suit driving a car was nice though.) And, as stated, I already knew Misha was the fucking Watchmaker from the goddamn start.

Honkai: Star Rail's story could be so much better. Actually going through the story could be so much better. I am, surprisingly, capable of getting sucked into a game's story even when it has less intense gameplay than HSR. (I played "In Other Waters" around this time last year and it was fantastic! I enjoyed it a lot! Here's the link to the game on Steam if you're curious.) There's so much more to crafting a long, ongoing story with moving parts than simply dumping all relevant info in massive clumps while repeating said relevant info at any possible moment. I could critique a lot of the recent choices they make with their storytelling. I've been writing this rant while waiting TO FUCKING MOVE AGAIN. I already figured out everything they're telling me!

Just give me my new hat. And I want this next adventure to be with Dan Heng, please. Please. He pays attention and I don't have to explain something I figured out months ago.

The re-scam

Everyone has done something in their life which could fall under the classification of wrong. Some are more creative about it than others. The re-scam was one such idea which was not exactly noble. But it was not pre-meditated it just kind of happened.

So I'm selling a fridge on Craigslist. Yes, Craigslist was still a thing at the time. I get a response from a buyer who says they are not in town but will send me a check and once I get it, they will come get the item. Clearly a scam, only an idiot would buy that story.

I think, what will it hurt to play this out and just see where it goes. I had a gut feeling. So I did. Mail me a check, it's not like there will be a tiny little criminal concealed within the envelope waiting to jump out and steal the money I don't have. So I went with it.

The check came. They knew it too cause they started blowing up my phone. Their story was that they accidentally sent me an over payment. Over buy about 2k! Will you please cash the check and return the extra to them and I can keep an extra 100 for the trouble. Lol

I put it together before this point and knew what I was going to do. I took the check to a bank in a 'nice' neighborhood. I waited til someone came thru who looked like they had 2k in the bank and I offered 50 bucks if they could cash it.

The first person I asked agreed. I had to sign it over to them and they cashed it and handed me 2150$ I laughed outloud walking down state street. I finally replied to the scammer and thanked them for the free money which the poor bastard who cashed it was now liable for. ..... sorry man.

The re-scam..... great name second to car sike... which will be in my next post.

I suppose I should mention, I recommend trying this as there are plenty of ways to make money without screwing people over which is against my own personal policy. We all make mistakes when we are young. Some more than others. I still do crazy things but none of them really hurt anyone. Anyways,

honestly what are your thoughts on the whole love rivals plot.

Stupid, pointless, and a waste of my time. On god this "failed attempt to get over their crush by dating someone else" plot could've been done in like 2 episodes. The fact is that Adrien didn't love Kagami and Marinette didn't love Luka and the two of them were simply trying to move on from their original crushes by making an attempt at dating people who they found attractive and who had crushes on them. Both of their relationships literally lasted like 2 episodes. The buildup was pointless, the same effect could've just been achieved by having each of them receive a random love note/confession from an attractive classmate in one ep and try to go on a date in that same ep to get over their heartache, only for it to not work out (yknow, like what happened in Frozer, lmao they literally could've just ended the plotline there.) Imo the time they wasted on developing Adrien and Marinette's romantic relationships with their rebounds should've gone to developing Adrie/nette as well as their friendships with Nino and Alya. If they wanted to add to Marinette's stress in Season 4 by having her realize she can't even have a love life while she's the Guardian and Ladybug, they could've had her trying and failing to get over Adrien after the "girl I'm in love with" moment in Puppeteer 2 and had her messily try to date over just 1-2 episodes. OR they could've skipped that entirely and instead actually given her the opportunity to hang out with Adrien but then switched things up and had HER be the one who can't hang out with him or who has to cancel/leave in the middle because of her superhero duties!!!! Have her angst about that!!!! Have Adrien feeling Some Kind Of Way about it!!!! That would've been delicious!!!!

ML started as a nice subversion of the love rival trope by having the love rivals be Themselves, but then ....... felt the need to put in love triangles as well in season 2? Which just felt redundant and also served no purpose other than creating another excuse to keep Adrie/nette apart/keep them from getting close to one another for whatever reason. If you couldn't tell, the way Adrie/nette isn't allowed to get close without being sabotaged/artificially kept apart at every turn is another annoyance of mine lol. I won't get in to it too much here or else I'll get totally off topic for several paragraphs, but one example is Riposte. I remember being excited when I first watched Riposte because Adrie/nette playfully bonding over fencing was cute and I thought "oh Marinette is joining the fencing team!! They can get closer and hang out more regularly now and Marinette will get more comfortable with him and--" ..... Sike! It was just to introduce an unnecessary love rival! The love rival is the one who gets to benefit from seeing Adrien regularly the way I wanted Marinette to and Marinette is going to continue rarely if ever getting to hang out with and get to know and get comfortable with Adrien! Great. :)

The point of a love rival is usually to spur a hesitant/shy character in to action so that they don't lose their love interest to the rival, to make an oblivious character realize their feelings when seeing their love interest with the rival bc of the Jealousy, or to make a character who is being romanced by the rival realize their feelings for their true love interest because of how wrong things feel with the rival. None of that happened! Marinette wasn't motivated to make a move on Adrien because of Kagami (or by Kagami, I love the trope where the rival is the one to tell the protag to act). Adrien didn't realize his feelings for Marinette because of Luka. We did at least get to see Ladybug jealous of Ryuuko with Chat Noir and Adrien (subtly) jealous of Luka with Marinette, but nothing Came of That. They ultimately just realized neither of them can date while maintaining their secret identities, which the show really didn't need a whole drawn out multi-season love rival plot to tell me.

At least this nonsense granted me the gift of Mari/gami if nothing else lmao

Okay in all seriousness though, this is my short story how I figured out I'm Aro before society said "You suck lol repress yourself". And then I said "SIKE" and became green again. :)

My mom keeps teasing and insisting me to date people, and not even queer people, just cis boys and men only. I said no to her, but yeah that cost me a beating :(. I don't like being told who to date, who to be friends with, or how I should dress "to impress". It's not even professionally either which is an extra bummer >:(.

Over the years, many boys keep pulling me into their dating frantics and I keep stomping on their feet to get them away from me, but they always come back. It was done mainly just to humiliate me later.

When I finally did date however, it's honestly a lot of work. I knew it wasn't for me since I still want to figure out what to do for my future [At the time of this writing...yeah I still do lmao].

Plus, having squishes rather than crushes is already good for me, mainly because the only thing I wanted in this world is to at least have an acquaintance that doesn't make fun of me or threaten me in any way.

I'll admit, either I haven't thought about these two interacting enough or I find their relationship hard to tackle considering both of their perspectives, I have...yet to properly solidify anything.

The one thing to remember about Nanako's perspective is that she initially found Mim, the attendant, to be "weird" or "scary."

Although the narration says Nanako's looking at bancho, it's clear that she's looking at the attendant. Her model even approaching bancho and looking up at him.

That being said, au-wise, with Nanako warming up to Mim after hearing Souji talk about them, I think Mim would be afraid of Nanako.

A six (6) year old girl (she turns seven (7) in October) whose mother died recently, and with her father being busy as a detective, she's been left alone at home majority of the time until her cousin stays for the year. Being a child, she has nothing to suppress or hide from others to have her own Shadow. And her only desires are things as simple as loving her family and friends, keeping the company she already has, and yearning for her late mother which manifests in (albeit, shared) her TV studio in the world of the unconscious.

And a cryptic entity born of a collective unconscious, serving them as a deity and executing a plan to fulfill it. It's not as if they're meant to be remembered by anyone at all. They might as well be forgotten; imperceiveable, really. Slapping together a temporary identity just to shake hands with a few people. Why bother sealing the little gaps seeping out fog only perceptible to those they'll never meet again. First impressions? What about no impressions.

But there was an impression.

A guy twice a little girl's height does their best not to crumble in front of her, to say the least. Afraid of children being more perceptive knowing the truth better than those older than them and simply not being aware of it. Being piercingly blunt and honest as per their nature as individuals still learning about the world around them.

What if you were a decaying mass with a face you can't change bound to fulfill a duty that could end the lives with the same will that powers your existence, hiding under a myriad of physical and metaphorical layers. And you hear

"Oh, thank you!"

"Thanks for taking care of big bro."

"You're really pretty!"

For clarification, yes Mim would still act in their attendant facade with Nanako but it takes twice the effort to be with her.

Having to swallow everything nice she has to say about them and keeping up the clown act to be consistent with everyone they meet.

It's hard to feel spite or plain heartlessness and 'i dont give a shit about what you think about me actually' bc Mim is growing their own heart after it unwillingly tore apart from them, while they gradually returning to the caretaker aspect of their whole being that they lost at the same time. So they care about a child's opinions taking them as how other people may actually think about them if they ever admitted it, especially the fact this same child is connected to so many people and Mim already knowing if this game they enabled keeps up, she's going to inevitably get caught up in it making them fully aware of her fate.

And as much as they already care about her, they aren't supposed to stop the game they started since they're bound to their duties that they begin to loathe, but also at the same time take personally since, at its core, it's meant to better the lives of the people they've grown about at an intimate level ever since they turned human themself and /shepherd's cane cartoonishly pulls me off stage for the second time/

Do you know how much guilt piles up on literally everyone associated with Nanako by November when shes kidnapped and hospitalized?¿

Out of everyone, Mim doesn't want Nanako to care about them the most. They don't want her to think that they, a monster formed by the cognition of the collective, is "pretty" or "nice" or "kind" or "funny." Mim cares about Nanako and they don't want her to go down that line of thinking and be betrayed by her beliefs based on how Mim presents themself.

But then again, it's already been a long while ever since they made "themself" different from "Izanami." So maybe Nanako's allowed to think that way.

Don't know how to say it but there's something very satisfying with the religious imagery and how it just delivers regarding the whole theme with MC and Prosciutto. The symbolisms with MC's Stand and the flowers are interesting! I've only heard about folk healers from others but it's interesting how you wove it into the canon lore. Oh yeah I also looked up the painting and it's so pretty! I see how it really says a lot of their relationship. I know you put unhealthy relationships in the tags and there's the stalking too but I really want to ship this so bad. I'm horrible 😭 👉👈 but mutual pining is my weakness 😩 There's something in the way you write them that's so meaningful and bittersweet. Like I get MC for not wanting to put up with his bs anymore but him not wanting to move on yet is so selfish but human.

That there’s a rare genuineness in there he can’t find in anything else that makes him selfish and starved because people like him are just beggars, piss-poor at mercy, and cruel enough to kill one of their own; a sentiment he doesn’t mind committing when the consolation comes with a paycheck and a twisted kind of satisfaction that he’s done it.

I love this line so much 😩❤️💔 It's terrible but it humanizes him. Cuz he's still an assassin and I don't think he's capable of empathy BUT THIS. I think if he does actually *love* someone it'd be twisted like this. You're right to tell us that he isn't a good guy. This is the same guy that would kill everyone in the train. Prosciutto wasn't really my fav but I was craving for some La Squadra content and your writing of him is so good! I really want to read more about him from you! 💖

I'm planning to make my story have a sad ending, but at the same time I want my readers to feel some sort of comfort afterwards?? hi!! of course it’s okay to ask for tips LOL that’s lowkey what i’m here for (:

sad endings are one of the harder endings to write because not only do you have to convince the READERS that this is the best ending for the characters but also you have to convince your CHARACTERS that the ending is basically what they deserve lol (the sad ending should NOT be sudden; you should be building up towards it from the beginning)

sad endings with comfort are even harder BECAUSE after basically making your reader drown in their own tears, you have to hand them a tissue (figuratively) and literally tell them ‘sike lol here’s some fluff to make up for that bloodbath’

and the way you’re going about that is great! if you want to offer comfort to the readers after a sad ending one of the best ways to do it is through reunition!!

here are some in-debt tips to go about writing a good ending for a story:

IN GENERAL/WARNINGS

OK SO THE ENDING OF EVERY STORY IS SO FUCKING IMPORTANT LIKE YOU CANNOT BS THROUGH THIS EVEN IF YOU TRIED

this is because the last thing the reader reads in your story will be your ending

it’s literally the last impression they will have of your writing AND the story

you need to make sure the ending STICKS

i will say this. a sad ending or a jarring ending (something that is not cliche, basically) will reside in your reader’s memories more than an ending that is commonly used in the ff world

warning: there is such thing as a common sad ending too, so beware of that

but i’m not saying common/cliche endings are bad. i’ll tell you later how to finesse one of those endings

endings should never be abrupt. that’s kind of a common mistake that i see a lot

most people writing a beautiful introduction. but then they get to the middle and don’t know what they’re doing. I’M TELLING YOU NOW THAT THE MIDDLE MAKES UP THE ENDING

whatever happens in the middle of the story SHOULD lead to the end

this means that either you write the middle WITH the end in mind, or you write the end WITH the middle in mind

SAD/BITTERSWEET ENDINGS

what constitutes as sad? think about that for a sec

what makes people sympathize with others?

i think knowing someone (like knowing what they’ve been through, their hardships, their likes, their dislikes, their journey) really helps me sympathize with them when someone bad happens

it’s human nature to care about others that we know well

so your goal should be to make sure your readers know your characters enough so when your characters are undergoing a crisis, (as bad as it sounds), the readers go through one as well

if the sad ending involves death, then what would the surviving characters think of it?? the key to getting the waterworks on in the audience is putting a big emphasis on the surviving characters’ reactions to the death of another character. if the other characters are heart-wrenchingly mourning the death, then chances are, the readers are too (humans mimic each other’s reactions lol)

if the sad ending involves a breakup, then the literal saddest way to end that is to use simplicity. a breakup is messy. it’s emotional. don’t decorate it too much with actions and physical descriptions. what makes a breakup sad is what the characters are feeling inside—not how horrible or disheveled they look in the state of the moment. (it’s even sadder when the characters seemed really compatible at the beginning of the story)

if the sad ending involves separation, i think there are two ways to go about with this. separation can be really fucking sad. (especially when it’s between two close friends.) in order to capture the depressing emotions, the characters should feel when that happens, you need to carefully describe why these characters must separate. then, you need to clarify their thoughts on the separation. they must separate because of this, and they would rather not leave each other, but they have no choice. it’s even better to talk about their empty futures without each other

the other ending with separation i personally really like is a bittersweet ending. it’s when the two characters must separate and they both accept that fact. if they had the choice, they would probably not separate, but circumstances worked out against them. there are fewer tears reading this kind of ending, but you get that punch-in-the-gut feeling when you write it well. in order to perfect the bittersweet ending, i find that it’s easiest to focus on the future. the characters must separate for the better—for their own futures. the situation at the moment (separating and saying the goodbyes and all that) may be shitty, but it’s a small sacrifice for a better future

HAPPY ENDINGS

not all happy endings are cliche

but the thing is, most of the happy endings are cliche

and there’s nothing wrong with that

you know why?

because so much content has accumulated over the years that there is no doubt that hundreds, maybe thousands of ideas will repeat

at this point, it’s hard to figure out what’s not cliche. literally EVERYTHING has been written and done lol

so honestly, i say, you shouldn’t really give a shit about cliche or not. don’t overly try to avoid cliches because you might accidentally make your ending sound forced (we don’t want that)

happy endings are pretty easy on the spectrum of endings because it’s probably easier to write happy characters than sad characters (at least for me)

but because it’s easy to write these happy endings, you might get tempted to abruptly end the story (you might even do it accidentally)

the best way to go about this is to bring something that the characters probably repeatedly talked about throughout the story back and stick it in the last line/paragraph somewhere

i.e. say your character A and character B were best friends at the start of your story. through the course of it, character B deals with trauma/internal dilemmas that lead him to be pretty sad. character A describes him having slouched shoulders all the time. but when character A and character B recognize their love for each other, things start to look up for character B. the ending can be character A and B together in a scene, and character B’s usually slouched shoulders are straightened, yk ‘cause he’s finally truly happy

it was a random example but i really like to bring in the little details to wrap up a happy-ending story!

COMING UP WITH THE ENDING

honestly, this section is gonna be short because i think this kinda comes with gut instinct/following your heart loll

when you’re writing your characters, there will come a point in time where you literally feel like you’re them (because you know them so well)

ask yourself what do you think your characters will do? then write it out!

whether you want a sad/bittersweet/happy ending is gut instinct lowkey

i usually set the tone of a sad story right away so people know what they’re getting into

it’s better to know your ending while you write your story (or else you’ll have to go back and edit the beginning and middle to connect with the end)

but sometimes, you might not know how to end your story. then it’s good to base the ending off of what you’ve already written

i feel like this sounds like bullshit, but it’ll make sense when you actually experience it loll
