Supernova First Prologue: October 31, 2000
Pana po'o — Hawaiian — When you scratch your head to help you remember something you've forgotten.
"I don't regret my past because it made me stronger."
It was Lillie Tyler’s thirteenth birthday which also doubled as Halloween and she was dressed as Sherlock Holmes with pigtails, she was dressed as a modern day-version of Sherlock, one that wouldn’t be seen on television for ten more years by Benedict Cumberbatch before he was the second biggest ego in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (third if you include Ego) and she was lost. Not surprising since directions gave her a headache and she often got so lost in her thoughts she's not paying attention to the world around her.
Tumblr media
She had gotten separated from her mother and sister; she had heard a funny sound. A beautiful yet funny sound. Like something whirring or humming. It was the most beautiful sound she had ever heard; she was sure she had never heard it before yet it sounded familiar. And so she followed it in a sort of trance. She wasn't in a crowd exactly but there were scatters of people... until there wasn't. One moment she was surrounded by groups of people, the next... they were all gone and now she was stuck staring at a statue of a crying angel.
Something in the thirteen-year-old told her not to look away. Not to blink. She stepped backwards away from it, seeing at she couldn't rely on some Prince Charming or a knight in shining armor to come rescue her. She was only thirteen years old, but she already knew that Disney movies were a lie—Sometimes princesses had to save themselves, sometimes princesses had to be like Mulan, fight for what was right, and to save the people they love. Then again, she wasn't a princess... she was a tomboy, she had always been independent
which made her both the protagonist of the story and her own knight in shining armor.
"Little girl!" A guy’s voice shouted but she didn't turn, "Don't turn around!"
"Yeah, thanks for the heads up!" She shouted, sarcastically, still staring at the statue. "Wouldn't of have thought of that otherwise!"
"Don't look in its eyes!" Shouted the voice of a woman.
She was only human, if you tell someone not to think about something, they'll immediately start thinking about it. So, of course, she looked in its eyes but strangely enough, it didn't try to take over her body; it couldn't.
"When I say run, run towards my voice!" He shouted.
She took another step back and felt her foot stand on something, like a compact mirror... a mirror! She crouched down, never breaking eye contact and picked it up, she held it up in front of her face to see that it was in fact a compact mirror.
"Run!"
She turned and ran towards the voice, she spotted a man in around his forties with wild brown hair in an impractically long bohemian-looking scarf. He was ducking halfway down a tube staircase. She ran towards him and jumped down the staircasing.
"Hello-o-o-o-o." He drew out the vowel of the greeting before saying, "Little girl, you're standing on my scarf."
"Stop calling me little girl! I am thirteen! As of two hours ago!" She snapped at him. “And why is your scarf so bloody long! That’s just stupid and impractical!”
“Oi!” He whined before getting back to the matter at hand, "Just keep looking at the statue."
Begrudgingly she obeyed, remembering she had a "stranger-danger" whistle in the pocket of her Sherlock Holmes costume. She was shocked to see that the statue had moved, it was now a few yards away and was facing them with its arms extended and fingers clawed.
"What-what is that?" She gasped.
"A Weeping Angel. If either one of us stops looking at it, it will transport us to another era... didn't know they existed until some time ago, thought they were a myth."
"What do we do?"
"Umm... my plan was to get the little girl to safety, then I would think up another plan."
"Don't call me little girl!" She growled, looking at him.
"Don't!"
She turned back to the statue to see it now almost touching her, she stumbled back and held up the mirror, showing the Weeping Angel its reflection, albeit cracked and it stopped.
"Oh, that's brilliant. Hang on, calling for help." He took out a strange looking object with a silver body and a red top as the thirteen-year-old brunette stared at him in utter confusion.
"What the hell is that?" She asked.
"Oi, language." He scolded as the object made a humming sound.
"If Nova could actually pick up her sonic." He whined.
"Who?"
"Nova, she's like me but not."
"What does that mean?"
"What do you think that is?" He tested.
She examined the creature and she clutched her locket under her costume.
--
In the Tardis, Nova was walking into the console room, seeing her sonic buzzing like a twentieth-century phone and then a light shimmered along her body. She gasped and stumbled. Another one of her must be in contact of someone with the Doctor.
"Sarah Jane!" She shouted, "The Doctor needs saving!"
“What else is new!?” Sarah Jane, a young journalist, shouted from somewhere else in the Tardis.
She ran along the clean, silver console, flicking levers and pushing buttons with her opal-colored curls bouncing.
--
Lillie was distracted when she heard the same whirring, she looked and saw a police box appear out of nowhere.
"It's clearly not supernatural. Or at least not in the Halloween-traditional supernatural, more alien supernatural. The object you used seemed to have caused someone in that 'police box' to bring it here. So, I'm going to say it's alien."
The Doctor was impressed. This girl was barely thirteen and showed impressive deduction skills as he usually had to
Two women stepped out of the police box. Both seemed to be in their early twenties. One looked normal while the other looked like she belonged at ComicCon, yet somehow both seemed familiar.
The more normal-looking young seemed to be in her early twenties with dark brown hair with slight bangs and blue eyes.
The first woman had curly silver-purple hair in a series of intricate braids and amethyst-colored eyes, high cheekbones and she wore a yellow and black leather jacket over a white Hufflepuff constellation graphic tee, a yellow and black plaid skirt, high yellow boots with buckles, and around her neck were a few necklaces, a round locket that doubled as a compass but it was closed, a D20 dice necklace but it didn't really have numbers but astrological symbols that seem to shimmer and shift, a rose necklace with star sapphire gem in it, and a silver necklace of a sword with a star and a moon and moonstones on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She looked Lillie and while her expression didn't change, something flickered in her purple eyes.
"Doctor!" The brunette woman exclaimed.
"Ooh, mirror, bet you didn't think of that." The purple-haired woman smiled. "Brilliant thinking, future warrior." Lillie liked her already and she usually didn't like most people. The opal-haired woman walked to the statue, stepping in front of it, eyeing it, putting on a serious face and holding up a bronze and purple object similar to the man's, it seemed familiar to Lillie, but she wasn't sure why, and she started to scan the Weeping Angel with it.
Tumblr media
"What is that?" Lillie asked, curiously.
"Sonic screwdriver. Common scientific instrument of Kasterborous." The purple-haired woman said, without looking at her, though Lillie didn't consciously understand her words, they seemed to vaguely ring a bell at the back of her head. Her tone suddenly became serious with a dark undertone and Lillie knew this wasn't a woman you'd want to mess with. "Sarah-Jane, take her into the Tardis, we don't know if there are any more around. Besides, don't want her to be around for the, uh, clipping of this angel's wings."
Sarah-Jane pulled Lillie into the Tardis while the Doctor and the purple-haired woman spoke.
Lillie's jaw dropped and she looked around in amazement but she made no comment.
"Were you scared?" Sarah-Jane asked.
"Hmm?"
"When you realized that it was alien, the Weeping Angel?" Sarah Jane clarified.
"I just knew that Prince Charming wasn't going to come save me, that some knight in shining armor wasn't going to. I'd have to save myself because this isn't a Disney movie, this isn't a fairy tale and even then, the real fairy tales are much grimmer than people think they are. I just didn't expect for the supposed knight to be in a ridiculous scarf."
"Why's everyone always on about the scarf?" The Doctor asked as he and the purple-haired walked into the Tardis. He was then jerked back because his scarf got caught in the door of the Tardis, making both the purple-haired woman and Lillie laugh as he embarrassedly freed his scarf. The Tardis made a sound that indicated she was also laughing.
"Maybe that's why." The purple-haired woman teased.
"Who is he?" Lillie asked.
"I'm the Doctor. Would you like a jelly belly?"
"Even though it's Halloween, I'm not accepting candy from the strangest man I have ever met." Lillie said. "And Doctor who?"
The purple-haired woman laughed, "She did the thing!" She squealed.
"Just the Doctor." The Doctor said as if he couldn't think of any other way to say it.
“Trust me, his eyes would pop out of his head if you did say his real name.” The purple-haired woman teased.
“Nova!” The Doctor whined and turned to Sarah-Jane Smith, “Did she say it?”
“Say what?”
“The-the thing.”
“About the Tardis? No.” Sarah-Jane said.
“It’s like a glass of coke.” The Doctor said, “it’s only this big.” He made a gesture measuring something about the size of a coke can. “But it’s actually got this much sugar in it.” He extended his arms. “or did you not notice?”
“What?”
“The Tardis. It’s bigger on the inside.”
“Well, obviously. I just figured it was supposed to be. Like… the wardrobe in Narnia.”
“Most people are confused by that.” The Doctor said.
“I like her. My name is Supernova but my friends call me ‘Nova’.” The purple-haired woman brought her attention to the young Sherlock Holmes and walked towards the young teen with a mission in mind, "what's your name?"
"Lillie. Lillie Tyler." Lillie said as the woman crouched down to look her in the eyes.
“How’s that spelled?”
“L-I-L-L-I-E. It’s short for Delilah.”
“Delilah!” Nova said, eccentrically, “A type of dahlia. Symbolizes beauty, commitment, kindness, elegance, inner strength, change, creativity, dignity, positivity, resilience, wildness, and happiness. Generally, they can symbolize new beginning, fresh starts, enduring kindness and even grace in challenging time. Rebirth. The Victorians used them to signify a lasting bond between two people. Love. Of course, then there’s the Black Daliah. Elizabeth Short. Her death remained a mystery long after her and her killer’s death.”
“What do you mean her killer’s death?”
“George Hodel. He was an awful man. The world may never know but I do. He couldn’t run forever and he didn’t by the time I found him. Last year, 1999. Wasn’t it?
"What?" Lillie asked, very confused. "How could you even know that? It’s unsolved. I should know. I wrote an essay about it in year six. My teacher then sent me home with a note saying I was too graphic and ecstatic about horrifying things.”
“Then you’ll get along with us great.” Nova said, “Time machine, what do you make of the Doctor and me?" Nova said, testing her.
"I don't understand the question." Lillie said.
"Yes, you do. You're smart. What do you think of us?" Her purple eyes were somehow both cold and warm. Both analytical and emotional. As if she were analyzing her through her emotions and psychology.
"That 'Weeping Angel' wasn't human... it wasn't of this world so it must be of another world. Alien. Like you and the Doctor. Like this 'Tardis'. Because it... it defies science. So, it must be alien. You and the Doctor are aliens too, aren't you." She said, impressing all three of the adults with her deduction skills yet accepting nature.
“Yes. Does that bother you?”
“No. I mean, I’m alien from your point of view.”
“Finally. Someone gets it.” The Doctor said.
“Hush. Can I see your necklace, young female Sherlock?" She asked, gently. “A rose, huh?”
"How did you know about that?" Lillie asked, slightly taken aback by this.
"I'm smart too." She said, vaguely.
Lillie pulled her necklace out from under her shirt and showed it. The woman's eyes flickered with recognition but other than that there was no change of expression on her face.
Her necklace had a deep meaning for a thirteen-year-old, and barely that. A golden rose with a shiny dark red snake wrapped around the stem. It symbolized an eternal internal fight between light and darkness. People often got tattoos of it but Lillie didn’t seem like the tattoo type. A rebel, most definitely but not a tattoo girl.
Tumblr media
"A genius, you can see things that no one else sees. Why can't they? Why are you so fast and everyone else so slow? You look and connect things, things people think are random but they're not. They're connected. Sometimes you wonder if there's something wrong with you but let me tell you that there isn't. There's nothing wrong with you. You're just stone-cold brilliant. You're unique, you're one-of-a-kind, you're special but you don't see that. I could scream it at you and you would refuse to believe it. But some day, you will."
"Who are you?" Lillie asked.
"Sorry, rude of me. I am Nova. I am alien, I am from the planet Elder of the Kasterborous galaxy. In a way."
"Nova." The Doctor whined but she literally waved him off like he was an annoying fly, annoyed he stomped off no doubt to sulk.
"How did you know who I am?"
"Alien reasons." Nova said, vaguely.
"Are you a seer or a time traveler?" She asked, changing the subject.
"Ah, while the Doctor is more telepathic than me, I'm more empathetic, though slightly telepathetic. But I cannot see the future; that’s my Mum. I mean, occasionally I can but it’s unpredictable. It’s like bouts of nuclear fission without the satisfying afterburn.”
“What?” Lillie asked.
“Right, you’re human. Nuclear fission is radioactive in large quantities and long-term exposure causes cancer in humans. So to sum up, I am an alien time traveler."
"And who is she?" Lillie asked, nodding to Sarah-Jane Smith.
"I'm human. I'm a companion of the Doctor and Nova." Sarah Jane said. "I'm, uh, from seventy-three."
"Well, welcome to two-thousand." Lillie smiled, awkwardly.
"You want to come with us, don't you?" Nova asked.
"But I can't. I'm only thirteen. I have my big sister, Rose..."
"You have a sister?" Nova asked, slightly surprised. That was new. Then again… "Rose?" She had a ironic smile tugging at her lips.
"She's six months older than me."
"Were you adopted?" Nova asked, bluntly.
"Nova!" Sarah-Jane scolded but was ignored.
"No, I was premature. Doctors said it was a miracle, I lived. I was perfectly healthy as if I were born at nine months." Lillie said.
"Does Rose happen to associate with gold?"
"What?"
"Does she like gold? Has a gold heart? Whatever?"
"She's... she's blonde and she... she has the best heart I know."
"Ah." Nova nodded, knowing more but not saying as the Doctor reentered the console room.
“Where do you live?” He asked.
“What?”
“Where do you live?”
“I wasn’t willing to take candy from you. You think I’m willing to tell you my address?” Lillie shouted.
“It’s not just a time machine. It materializes here and there. We can take you home.” Nova said.
Lillie told Nova her address and Nova drove the Tardis which the Doctor didn’t seem all too happy about.
The Tardis moved as Nova went back to Lillie.
“Question: Do strange things happen around you?”
“What do you mean?”
“Things like when you’re scared or angry. Things you can’t quite explain? Things that you know are because of you even if it seems impossible. Things that only you seem to really notice and if they do notice, they shrug it off.”
“Yeah—wh—yeah, why?” Lillie stammered.
“No reason.” Nova smiled and she took her compass necklace off, “this is an ancient necklace. From my planet.  You can keep this until… one day, if our paths cross again when you're older, we'll reconsider, hmm?"
Lillie looked down at the necklace, seeing it was a compass necklace, the pendant was a shade of black with a purple-ish hue like a dark star, the metal twisted into a rose with a star sapphire in the middle under of the compass rose star, pointing to the north, the east, the south, and the east, the grooves around the rose and the compass rose was a Celtic design resembling roots, a purple glow the openings between the dark metal. When it clicked open it revealed a compass and it played a beautiful music unlike any anyone on Earth had heard before, on the back was an inscription that said, "Not all those who wander are lost."
Tumblr media
"And Rose too?"
"Yep." Nova said, "if she's anything like you then she's brilliant, brave, sweet, loyal, and kind. Just like you. Keep true to yourself, Delilah Sherlock Tyler.”
--
They dropped Lillie off at her flat as a panicked Rose and Jackie came back, just in time to miss the Tardis dematieralizing as Lillie watched it in wonder
"Lillie!" A thirteen-year-old Rose Tyler cried, running to her younger sister and throwing arms around her, just about blinding her with her blonde hair
"Lillie, where the hell have you been?" Her mother demanded as Rose hugged her.
"Battling evil angels with the Doctor." She said blankly.
"What? Doctor who?" Jackie asked, incredulously.
Tumblr media
That night as Lillie dozed off to sleep, a multi-colored field energy that has surrounded the young Tyler her whole life started to glow in her room before being sucked into the compass which was now glowing, Lillie shifted in her sleep and smiled gently.
Tumblr media
*Sorry, if the personalities of Sarah Jane Smith and the Fourth Doctor were off beat. I haven’t gotten to the Fourth Doctor yet in the Classic Doctor Who… or Sarah-Jane Smith’s debut. And I haven’t seen the Sarah Jane Smith Adventures.*
I saved a bunch of compass pcitures that I found on my old laptop but now I've got a new laptop. I did save them on Terrabox but loading the pictures are slow and the scrolling is laggy, so the compass I photoshopped isn't exactly what is described.
The DnD dice is not random. It represents her mother who can see different paths of the future and I felt the dice showed that pretty well and the sword represents her father, Castiel who is the protector of the universe, Elder, and above all else, his daughter. (And perhaps if you think there's a version of Dean Winchester on Elder).

Just rewatched The Celestial Toymaker and I think I had somewhat underrated it in my memory. It's not the most exciting, but the way the Toymaker and his world work is actually really well pitched.
One of the most effective parts of the story is the way his toys work. They play against Dodo and Steven, often cheating or being otherwise difficult, but they're people under there. It's ambiguous whether they had lives before they were toys - it's certainly possible, given that the threat is that our main characters might become like them - but Dodo points out that they do have personalities of their own even if they were created as toys. All they want is to be allowed to keep living. They don't want to go back to the toybox. The clowns becoming solemn when they realise they might lose is the first time this is evident, but perhaps the best moment is the "if we go, we go together" between the playing card king and queen. It makes you feel for these people trapped within the Toymaker's world!
The Toymaker himself is also such a good villain. His motivations make complete sense, and even when he's lost at the end, I really believe he doesn't care about losing his world; he just wants to spite the Doctor for beating him. He's also just a fantastically menacing presence, with a really effective, reigned-in performance. It makes me worry slightly just how big a performance NPH looks to be giving in the upcoming episode, but I'll withhold judgement till I've actually seen it. (I also wonder how they'll handle his face having changed, since he's not a Time Lord. Though for a character with the power to bring toys to life, changing his appearance is probably not all that difficult.)
I also love that the Doctor has clearly met the Toymaker before, and that we don't learn when or how or why. It's just allowed to be a relationship with an obscured past, somewhat proto-Master. And, of course, as the Doctor says, "there will be other meetings in an other time." Indeed there will, Doctor!

Hello students, and welcome to your first lesson in Timey-Wimey and Spacey-Wacey Things!
As you know, I'm a time traveler from the planet Gallifrey! As such, its my job to teach you how to fly your very own TARDIS! Now, there are many different controls on a TARDIS console, and there are two different ways to fly:
1. Basic Mode
2. Advanced Mode
I've attached a picture of the console below! Your homework for today is to memorize where each control is on the console! Just keep in mind, there are also many different variations of the console!

does/can type 1 diabetes exist in Time Lords/Gallifreyans? or would the technology be advanved enough to cure it?
Diabetes (Type 1 and 2)
In humans, diabetes is a condition characterised by issues with insulin production (Type 1) or insulin resistance (Type 2). For Gallifreyans, while their advanced biology provides some natural defences, they're not completely impervious and deal with a slightly different set of issues:
1️⃣Type 1 Diabetes in Gallifreyans
Manifestation and Symptoms:
In humans, Type 1 diabetes is characterised by the immune system declaring an unprovoked war on pancreatic beta cells, reducing or halting insulin production. For Gallifreyans, a similar autoimmune response could theoretically target cells or mechanisms involved in their glucose regulation - namely, X1 blood cells.
Given that X1 cells are responsible for transporting glucose, an autoimmune attack might disrupt this process, leading to irregular glucose levels despite their naturally higher baseline (8.9-11.7 mmol/L).
Symptoms might include a rollercoaster of energy levels and cognitive hiccups due to glucose imbalances.
Diagnosis and Management:
Gallifreyans would be born/loomed with Type 1 diabetes, possibly due to genetic predispositions or anomalies during the looming process.
Diagnosis would likely involve advanced biometric scanning and analysis of blood composition, focusing particularly on the functionality of X1 cells and their glucose transport capacity.
Treatments could involve cellular regeneration, genetic editing, or immunotherapy alongside your standard spacey-wacey machine™* to regulate glucose levels or cure it completely. And, of course, the simplest way to cure anything is regeneration, but it is probably a bit drastic and not a guaranteed fix if the condition is inherent in their genetic makeup.
2️⃣Type 2 Diabetes in Gallifreyans
Manifestation and Symptoms:
Type 2 diabetes, typically associated with insulin resistance, is far less common in Gallifreyans due to their efficient glucose management and general physiological Certificate of Excellence. This condition could develop at any time in a Gallifreyan's life, potentially due to lifestyle factors or physiological changes.
It might manifest as a reduced efficiency of X1 cells in glucose transport despite normal insulin production. Basically, the X1 cells have suddenly become slackers.
Symptoms could be subtler and might include reduced efficacy in their regenerative abilities and a slight decrease in overall vitality.
Also, because their homostatic mechanisms are so 'on-fleek', they'll start trying desperately to compensate, most notably in physiological cues, including dietary adjustments, increased exercise, stress management, and fluid intake adjustments.
Tumblr media
Diagnosis and Management:
Preventive measures would likely be a key focus, with monitoring of individual health parameters to detect any early signs of insulin resistance.
Treatment could involve lifestyle interventions, although these might be more about fine-tuning. Additionally, advanced therapies to enhance X1 cell function or counteract insulin resistance at a cellular level could be employed. And you can always rely on your spacey-wacey machine™ for a complete cure.
Again, regeneration is an unnecessary drastic solution, but unlike Type 1, it would be effective in completely curing Type 2.
⚕️Holistic Approach
Gallifreyan medical technology approaches things more holistically, considering the interplay of their unique blood components, endocrine functions, and immune responses. The use of advanced diagnostics, personalised medicine, and possibly even real-time monitoring and adjustment of physiological parameters would be standard practices in their healthcare system.
🏫 So ...
In Gallifreyan society, while diabetes may not be as prevalent or manifest in the same way as in humans, it's a condition that their medical technology is well-equipped to manage. And if it can't manage it, there's always regeneration, but don't be wasting those bodies, now.
*A spacey-wacey machine™: any piece of equipment that can magically do future-y things because, well, sci-fi.
Hope that helped! 😃

OKAY LAST FLUX EPISODE LET'S GOOOOOOOOO
I do like the doctor being torn into three timelines/dimensions, that's very spacey-wacey timey-wimey of her, and the way it seems to be increasingly exhausting to her
I feel like. while whatshisface and azure are well-designed and well-acted they're not well-drawn enough for me to enjoy their scenes as much as I do other parts of this story. they're constantly a little vague and like they're missing some core element that gives them a compelling edge, rather than just the sort of villain's posturing that one gets bored of
the doctor and yaz are the strongest parts for me, although I actually like dan more than I thought I would -- and while theirs isn't the best-paced/embedded story of the lot, I do technically like the two space-farers (vinder and bel) who're trying to find each other and slowly zero in on the main story, and I think karvanista is great, and I enjoy diane too, because she goes beyond just existing for dan's story
some of the other people are a bit lost on me, because it's so many across so many sprawling plots. on the whole I think there's a few too many pieces in this six-parter, and the division to me is the weakest one, which is what a lot of the other Stuff that's hard for me to get invested in revolves around
the idea of "all this happened while you were with the division, which you don't remember and you just need to trust is a massive plot that spans across all these people you used to know that is emotionally devastating. you're devastated right now," doesn't work for me
but there's enough here that does that it's not lost me. the doctor making fun of the title "grand serpent," the doctor getting frustrated and strung out as more and more stuff is hurled at her over the course of this story, the doctor figuring things out while split across three dimensions, just a fair bit of thirteen getting to do a lot of cool things
on the whole, it's very much about glass half empty or glass half full for me with chibs (with the occasional chibnall throwing the glass against the wall... this works as a metaphor I think....) and I'm currently quite positive about it. we'll see how it all ends! (and then the three thirteen episodes after that)

I’m Not Him
Ganger!Doctor x Reader
Summary - You liked The Doctor, but he didn’t feel the same way about you. What will happen when you meet his Ganger again?
Based On This Request -
Tumblr media
Warnings - references to character death, sadness
Word Count - 1772
A/n - Gender Neutral Reader. I posted this request over on my old Tumblr account and I just wanted to repost it on here.
------------------------------------------------------------
You walked, curiously and trepidatiously, around the halls and corners of The TARDIS. For the past couple of days, you heard The Doctor rummaging around the ship, and you finally decided to investigate. He would do stuff like this often, rummaging and making tons of noise, but not for this long of a time. He was definitely up to something.
The Doctor had avoided everyone since the events of Demon’s Run and it was beginning to scare you, more than the fact that he was secretly planning something behind your back. You had heard stories from Madame Vastra and River that The Doctor had a history of shutting down after extremely eye-opening or sorrowful events, but you had never seen him act like this yourself. You didn’t know how to react to him acting like this.
You had been left behind at Demon’s Run along with Amy, Rory, and River, and River eventually took all of you home with her vortex manipulator. Soon after you were getting used to being at home, though, The Doctor showed up at your doorstep. He said that it had been a while since he had seen you and he was excited for you to see what he had planned. You were excited, too, at the moment, but now you were just scared.
The Doctor Had not picked up Amy and Rory yet, but River invited herself into the TARDIS constantly. She added to The Doctor’s rummaging and whispering around the ship. You wondered what they were doing, but then you figured that you might not want to know.
However, one thought continued to plague your mind, and that was why The Doctor brought you back onto The TARDIS in the first place, especially without Amy and Rory. You had joined the couple after The Doctor ran into you on one of his private adventures that he would go on when he couldn’t sleep and stayed ever since. Your life on The TARDIS was much more exciting than your life on Earth and you didn’t want to stay on that planet any longer. But everything that led up to today was making you worried that your time exploring the Universe was ending.
The Doctor randomly jumped out from a corridor with his spacey wacey goggles hanging around his neck. You jumped and shrieked from the shock while The Doctor profusely apologised. He placed both of his hands on your shoulders and squeezed them reassuringly.
“Y/n, I have something very exciting to show you!” You barely mumbled a still shocked “okay” before The Doctor quickly grabbed your hand and lead you towards a room you had never seen before. It was dark, with only a couple of dim, orangy-yellowy lights glowing on the walls, making the whole situation stranger. You could see through the dim lighting that there was a mechanised tub similar to the machine you saw at Saint John's Base. You remembered that trip well, it was shocking and emotional, but you could not put the pieces The Doctor was feeding you together.
“Doctor, I don’t understand. What is all of this?”
“What does it look like? I’m fulfilling my promise and proving my theory correct.” The Doctor moved to fiddle with a few wires and tubes, making sure that they were all set.
“Your Ganger?” You questioned The Doctor, still confused.
“John Smith, yes!” The alien before you briefly stopped what he was doing to exclaim what he thought was obvious. Before getting back to checking to see if everything was in order.
“You’re bringing him back? Why?” The Doctor finally stopped fiddling with the machine to look at you confused.
“For you, of course!” You questioned what he meant by that.
“I saw how the two of you became very close that day. I thought that I might bring him back for you.” The Doctor looked slightly sad, and you didn’t know why.
“I thought he was you back then.” You weren’t lying, but you did like The Doctor’s Ganger, he seemed to care about you more than The Doctor, who seemed to only have eyes for Amy and River.
“After you found out, the two of you still became very close. I just don’t like you being alone, Y/n.” You were shocked by The Doctor’s reveal and didn’t know what to say to all of this information. You were going to tell The Doctor to wait, give you time to think if this is actually what you wanted, but he already started the machine.
The tub filled itself with a formula, and then the liquid moulded and formed into The Doctor’s Ganger. Both of you and The Doctor watched curiously as all of this was happening. Suddenly, The Ganger!Doctor’s eyes popped open, and he screamed loudly in pain. He curled into a fetal position while clutching his head. The Doctor went to check if everything was okay on the scans and computers in the corner monitoring everything.
You joined The Doctor to watch the computers as well, but then out of the corner of your eye, you saw The Ganger!Doctor jumping up out of the tub. He seemed perfectly fine despite the pain he was in a moment ago.
“Ah! I’m back!” He stated cheerfully, adjusting his red bowtie.
Your mouth fell open in shock after looking at The Ganger!Doctor in the eye. You didn’t know what to do or say. Your breath began to quicken, and your head started to hurt. So, you quickly turned to walk back to your room.
You were so confused. A jumble of emotions ran through your head, and you couldn’t really focus on any of them for a long time. You liked The Doctor, you had for a long time, but you never let yourself love him. You were well aware of The Doctor’s relationship with River, and you were happy for them both, but it did sting your heart a bit because you had no one. The Doctor and River had each other and Amy and Rory had each other, and you wanted someone, too. Now The Doctor was giving you his Ganger. The possibility of not being alone was right before you, but you couldn’t help but run away.
It was true, you did like the Ganger!Doctor when you first met him. But it felt as if you were being pawned off by The Doctor. You were now angry. You couldn’t help but feel like this “gift” was bittersweet because even though The Doctor was being kind, he would never understand why it hurt. And you felt so sad for The Ganger!Doctor. He never did anything wrong and kept getting hurt in the process. You didn’t really know what feeling to prioritise and you just needed to be alone.
After spending a couple of hours doing everything but thinking about what just happened, you finally accepted that The Ganger!Doctor was back, and he was here for you. You were grateful that The Doctor thought of you, despite the questionable act. And you really did want to get to know The Ganger!Doctor on a personal level and outside of an adventure. You considered going out and trying to talk to the Ganger!Doctor, but a sudden knock on your door drew you out of your thoughts. You spoke a quiet “come in” and readjusted the work you were doing off of your lap.
“Hello …” It was the Ganger!Doctor, lingering in the doorway. Normally you probably wouldn’t be able to tell, but he was wearing the same thing he was wearing before, and you didn’t think that The Doctor would clean all of The TARDIS grease off of his clothes and face that quickly.
“Hello,” You responded bittersweetly.
“Hello …” The Ganger!Doctor repeated himself, and you could tell that he cursed himself in his head because of the disgruntled face he made.
“May I come in?” You nodded and motioned for him to join you on the floor where you were sitting. You would always sit on the floor when you needed to think hard about something. The two of you sat there for a long time in silence. There was a weird tension that you couldn’t really describe. But the pair of you continued to catch each other's eyes and then quickly look away. The Ganger!Doctor began patting his knees with his hands anxiously.
“I’m not really him, you know.” The Ganger!Doctor suddenly spoke up quietly, with his voice tinted with sadness.
“What do you mean?” You finally looked into The Ganger!Doctor’s eyes for longer than a couple of seconds.
“I have all of The Doctor’s memories and I obviously look like him, but I’m my own person with my own thoughts and opinions. I don’t see you the same way he does.” You could see how sad he was and how much he just wanted to be seen as himself.
“I’m sorry for assuming that you were, especially after the events of Saint John’s Base. I guess it was just the shock of everything.” The Ganger!Doctor nodded at your statement, but you could see how solemn he still was.
“I’ll try to be better.” You tried to smile, but it was still bittersweet. So, you reached out to hold The Ganger!Doctor’s hand. He squeezed your hand tightly as if he was shocked that you were actually touching him and worried that you would let go too soon.
“I don’t want you to be better, I just want you to be yourself.” You nodded in understanding and both of you fell back into silence, but you continued to hold each other's hands.
“What do you want to be called?” You asked suddenly. The Ganger!Doctor quirked his head to the side in thought and fiddled with his bowtie with his free hand.
“John Smith is a decent name, at least until I come up with a more unique name. Does John Smith sound like a good name to be paired with a Stetson?”
“Yeah, I think it does!” You laughed at his cute question and genuinely smiled at the now John Smith.
“I’ll stick with John Smith then!” He smiled back at you widely causing you to giggle. You really did like seeing him smile so happily.
Far into the night, the pair of you continued to talk and giggle and laugh. You told wide stories about your adventures and you both told interesting facts about yourselves. Unbeknownst to you, The Doctor grinned bittersweetly from your open door frame, happy that you were finally happy and not alone.

Finally finished reading 2ha in all that edited-MTL-glory.
Thoughts under the cut for spoilers!
Well as should surprise literally nobody one of my favorite characters ended up being........... Jiang Xi
is Sect Leader Jiang
is canonically hot yet eternally afflicted with resting bitch face
has great fashion sense [green edition]
is bad tempered and a sharp tongue, but funny
nobody is more aware than him that they live in a society
had extremely important information withheld from him for half his life for his own good (though in his case not earth-shattering)
explicitly aromantic
willing to sacrifice himself for others without flinching, but still mad about it
great grumpy duo dynamic with bratty youth he is attempting to protect
actually pretty great after all
...I... might have a type............ he's obviously a totally different character than Jiang Cheng in a totally different story, but the parallels were enough that when I started liking him so much I facepalmed at myself a little bit.
Overall I enjoyed it. I might have the flaming hot take that it definitely could've been edited down a lot and I think would've had a bit more impact, the last third dragged a bit but that also could've been the MTL jank getting to me. I think the bones of the story are great, but some of the pacing felt off to me; the serialized format felt very noticeable/obvious to me with this one in a way it didn't with some of the MXTX works.
I was skeptical once gates of space and time started getting involved because I don't generally enjoy time travel as a trope, but it wrapped up pretty well without too much timey wimey stuff getting involved (more on the spacey wacey side?). I did like the ultimate resolution, perhaps a *little* deus ex machina with the final resurrection but whatever it's a romance let them be happily ever after, and I thought the ending chapter/final note was quite lovely and touching (Xue Meng my beloved).
I do think some people make a bit too much of a big deal out of it being ultra dark; obviously the tone is going to be darker than your average fantasy romance but wasn't nearly as bad as I expected from seeing how people on Twitter and Reddit were always freaking out about it. That's usually how it goes when people make a big deal about 'dark content' though (obviously the content warnings should definitely be heeded! Just the hype builds it up to be more than it really is, as someone who doesn't have trouble consuming content with those topics).
Anyway: ultimate conclusion was that it was a fun read, wtb abridged version, but overall enjoyable. I'll probably have fun with some fannish content for it because there's some great art out there, but not feeling the 'my brain is trapped I am utterly obsessed' a la post-MDZS haze (that has endured for uh... years now) and I'd probably put it below TGCF as well for 'how much do I want to seek out fannish content for this series'. But definitely glad I read it.
