Rubik's Cube

In the spring 2024 I found this rubik's cube on the side of the road. Its missing one of the plastic faceplate but thats okay. I've had a cube before and I knew how to solve it part way but not totally. I started playing with it off and on. Until fall/winter 2024

Here is the cube I found next to my cube I got in the 2010's. They sound different when they move. The older one has stickers instead of plastic face plates. I find the older one to be more difficult to turn. Its harder on my wrists than the newer version.

I got a little obsessive and decided to purchase a whole bunch of different ones. And this is that cube haul

I've been learning the rest of the steps to solve the cube with the Rubik's official guide. (Free from their website)

In November 2024 I finally memorized the instructions

I've been working on different patterns to solve the cube as I've been learning.

One pattern that I really wanted to solve for is the daisy. Which when you look up how to solve for the daisy they only do one face and not all sides.

I also had a little fun and solved if for a poinsettia hehe

I learned several checker board patterns because there's several ways to solve for that

Also this is so far my favorite of my new cubes

I also made this pattern while at first glance looks unsolved but each side (designated by the corners being all the same color) had one of each other color. All sides are solved for this pattern. It took me about a week or two to solve.

I got an idea for solving for the opposite where the sides are designated by the side center tiles. I DID IT!

What got me posting this long hyperfocus diatribe: I wanted to solve for a cube within the cube. And in November 2024 after 3 or 4 weeks of struggle I SOLVED IT

Addendum: I also bought an Alexander's star on ebay

I also got some new cubes for christmas 2024.

Winter 2024 I also got some tiny cubes from HMart

Sometime in 2024 I also got the 50th anniversary cube. They replaced the yellow with gold.

Christmas 2020 I got a Mahjong tile cube

April 2025 I got a 7eleven slushy + Rubik's collab cube.

I'm not nearly finished with this. I have other patterns I've been working on and Cubes I wanna collect.

here's the thing though: canis IS an incredible manga from an artstyle/narrative structure/etc. point of view, but something that gives it an extra leg up is the hyperspecificity of its premise. "salaryman yaoi", "band yaoi", "college students yaoi", whatever, whatever, we've all seen it before. "haberdashery yaoi" though? no competition. mangaka's instantly leveled the playing field because they're out there alone, nobody has even conceptualized that playing field to even consider playing with them on that niche ass field. same for the second series you're like "orphanage yaoi" and maybe you're thinking "oh well this probably has some competition with those early shoujo artists obsessed with historical europe" but change the setting of that to the united states in the early 2000s? suddenly no competition once again. this is why my next yaoi manga will be about speedcubing

Can they solve a Rubik's cube? (Fukurodani headcanons!)

Akaashi: - Yes - Probably one of the various things he's learned to keep himself occupied as a child - Also unsolved cubes bother him - Occasionally gets his Rubik's cube off his shelf to solve as a stress-reliever

Anahori: - Can solve a 2x2!! - Probably collects 3x3s with pretty designs or colors for fun - He keeps them in a box under his desk with the words "IF YOU MESS WITH THESE I WILL KILL YOU" scrawled on it - Because he can't solve them back

Onaga:  - Yep - Takes him a bit, because he keeps forgetting the order of the turns - But he can solve it :) - Once Anahori realizes this he takes all the cubes his brothers messed with to him - Onaga becomes the cube unscrambler

Kaori: - Nope - Has a nerdy older brother who loved all sorts of puzzle toys - So she kind of stayed away from them in general

Konoha:  - Tried to solve one in his second grade of primary school after watching a speedcuber video - Except he didn't know there was a method to it - Struggled for four hours, cried, and swore off Rubik's cubes for the rest of his life

Komi:  - Can't haha - Can't even solve a single side - He can walk on his hands though

Saru:  - No - Owns a cube, and fiddles with it sometimes - It just never occurred to him to actually try solving it

Bokuto:  - YES!!! - He couldn't at first but one time he went to Akaashi's house and saw him solve his cube - And immediately decided that he had to know how to solve one too - The manual was too confusing though - So during training camp one night he and Kuroo spent the entire night pouring over cubes and videos - They emerged the next day as proud Rubik's cube solvers - (And got an earful from their teammates for not getting enough sleep while doing dumb things)

Yukie:  - Nobody knows - Refuses to clarify - (Lost a speedcubing competition with her friend in primary school) - (Actually a lot more competitive than she looks)

Washio:  - Yes - Learned how to solve a cube + various magic tricks for family meetings - Because he didn't want to be known as the 'scary cousin' - Maybe he should have chosen a different magic trick though, because he became known as the 'cousin who makes money disappear' instead, even though he gave the coin back
