History decides the heroes

Fun fact: a week after the german government denounced the attack on Trump, we have yesterday celebrated the 80th anniversary of Claus Schenk, Graf von Stauffenberg, trying to kill Adolf Hitler with a bomb.

And to be clear, we had a state celebration for him for the attempt made, not for the failure.

Today is the 80th anniversary Stauffenberg was executed for his assassination attempt by the government at the time, just one day after the bomb attack failed.

And 80 years later, we honour the courage it took to try.

Heroes and villains are decided in retrospective.

If Trump becomes as bad as he promises to be, in 80 years, if the USA still exists then, he may well be seen as a hero trying to stop tragedy.

Perspective is a funny thing.

While this is important, today is also the 80 years memorial day of the failed attempt to kill Adolf Hitler by Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg and all the other brave people who tried to get rid of the Nazis and paid that dearly with their life. Over 200 so called "traitors" were murdered in the days following the unsucessfull attempt. Both men and women, mother and fathers to often very little children. Sadly, they failed. I wish they had managed to kill Hitler but it was not meant to be. Let us not forget them. Not only did they pay with their lifes, their families suffered under their decision too. They were often shunned by former friends and neighbors, had to live without mother or father and it very hard while the Nazis were still in power.

Please do not forget those people. They stood up while so many other didn't dare too or did not want too.

We have to stand up for what we believe is right and just and fight for our democratic values, otherwise they will be taken from us.

And we should always be thankful to people who tried to make the world better, even if they failed.
