oh LMAO i was talking about this old tumblr post that goes around and resparks discourse every once in a while!

it drives me craaaaazy bc i love love love to overanalyze things and pick apart every single line. also my mother is an english teacher so i grew up surrounded by literary analysis and things of the sort lol, i was learning about color symbolism from her in like early elementary school

also as a writer it's like. if the curtains are called out as specifically blue, that's for a reason. if they were just telling you the curtains are there, they'd say "the curtains were drawn" or smth. the fact that the color blue is specifically noted is intentional, and the author wouldn't have included it if there wasn't a purpose - especially when you're reading smth that's being analyzed in an english class, so it's usually some higher level stuff!! the curtains are never just blue!!!

anyways, people usually quote this post as a sort of "ugh you're looking into it too much" thing and i just think thats Boring

i wish it was some cute aesthetic set up but the reality is i write best sitting cross legged in bed with my laptop, kids asleep. dark room with a strawberry dreams monster zero or iced coffee.

silence or maybe legend of zelda/nintendo/animal crossing lofi or some reality TV or gameshow idc about on quietly in the background if my tinnitus is bothering me. also hunched over my laptop like this

on youtube, I think it was lindsay nikole's history of life on earth (that we know of) series - it was pretty dang good and it's still ongoing, last she left off was the triassic period

What would be your ideal vacation? No time or money limits. Everything would be taken care of and no worries.

I'd *really* like to go on a trip to a national park that has cabins/housing/glamping options and just unplug for a few days. Go hiking, knit, relax, just exist.

I did something like that with a few friends in grad school when we were working on our dissertations, and it was some of the best memories of grad school for me. I want to do that again with a group of friends.

Something low pressure, no timeframes, just relaxing.

So that can be so many things. Songs, pictures, the odd throwaway lines in discussion, other peoples fanworks- there's so much inspiration available out there!! Whether or not these projects make it to being posted or just sit in my dragon hoard of a google drive is a different thing ">>

I. Love. Fantasy. Like it doesn't even have to be a huge swing of fantasy because I love Chronicles of Darkness and their level of Urban Horror is in its own way a type of fantasy!

I've already answered this but my other alternative? Just kinda going back and rereading what I've written. Remembering how I used to write and going "damn, I did this??? Shit" Also helps to go to my writing friends and my partners who've read my works and go "hey, if you could have me work on any of my projects which would you want" and go revisit that. Where was that one going, find the spark of love back for it, and see if I can't get something rolling. Generally resting and changing gears works better but eh

i haaate titles, mine are all just song lyrics from different songs i like but i always feel like they don't quite Fit right, yk?

that being said, my fave so far is probably i'll eat you whole! it was called "cold as ice" until literally an hour before i posted it, and i changed it bc i felt like it was a little corny for a polar bear fic :') but the lyric i used is from "Breezeblocks" by alt-J, and that entire song fits the vibe of that fic super well (in my humble opinion lol)

Especially with how fucking expensive things are these days, it's such a statement of how much you value/care about the other person.

Like today, my coworker got me a Dr. Pepper from the vending machine cause she knows our manager recently screwed me over, and she wanted to show she appreciates me. It was such a simple gesture but it meant so much to me.

But also I think everyone should always have a list of things they'd love to be gifted but would probably never be. Things they may be embarrassed to ask for (things they're told they shouldn't like for a variety of reasons), things that seem to serve no purpose, seemingly silly things that serve no purpose other than making the recipient giggle every time they see it.

Anyways, I'm in kind of a weird mood and I'm curious what everyone's weird gift wish list would be. No pressure tagging some folks

Talk Shop Tuesday: How do you settle on the setting in your fics? Do you base it around the plot? Or is it one of the first things you think of when planning the plot?

Tats, this is so complicated to explain because my writing method is so convoluted. I wanted to say "it just happens".

But picking the setting really depends first on what kind of story I'm telling. Unless I'm working in an AU, I'm probably using whatever setting is provided by canon. (Typically modern-day somewhat urban.)

Sometimes though, stories just have to be set somewhere specific. I want to write a Western AU? It's going to be set in some facsimile of the Western US. I want to write a mafia AU? An urban/city setting is most likely. And so on.

Now, when I'm setting up details on a scene's setting - house v. flat/apartment, bistro v. bar, etc. - I kind of let the characters dictate as much of that as I can.

One of my characters is much more likely to go to the little mom and pop deli shop for lunch than go out for drinks and dinner, so I'm going to put them in that deli shop to meet someone for food. Another of my characters doesn't drink - sending them to a bar is counter-intuitive (I mean, they can still go, but it's probably not their first pick.) A side character may live on the outskirts of town because they're married and have three beagles, but my MC may live in the city because they're single and wanted a shorter commute to work/access to city amenities.

So choosing details within my overall setting really is dependent upon the characters and what the plot needs.

But when it comes to writing it, I picture it like a stage - what's needed to set the tone and what's needed to interact with? I try to leave enough room for readers to fill in the blanks. (Whether that works or not remains to be seen.) This is also why, sometimes, I'll mention curtains or small trinkets and then you'll never hear about them again. They are no longer needed, but we can tell we're in the same place.

An example of this: In Feylands, Josie walks down snowy streets of a downtown city. She lives in an apartment building, doesn't own a car, and lives like 5 blocks from her office building. Just from that, you can extrapolate a lot of info about my setting. (I don't usually specify cities/towns in my writing. I will states/provinces/countries though.)

She frequents a burger/brewery joint a few blocks away - again, that tells you a lot about Josie and about the city she lives in.

It's walking home one night when a crucial plot glimmer happens - because where else could it happen? See how it all feeds back into itself?

Because it's set in a city, my character probably lives in an apartment. Because they live in an apartment, they probably don't have a car (or if they do, drive it infrequently). So they probably rely on mass transport or walking to get from A to B. Since they can walk to their job and their favorite spots, [key plot point] can happen. (No it is not kidnapping or a mugging, be creative. 😉)

That's how so many of my stories are written - big decisions inform small plot points and vice versa. I feel like I'm completely off my rocker saying this shit though lol.

His thick fingers keep working on stretching out your cunt, pumping his digits into your heat at a furious pace, hearing the wet sounds made from each thrust. You can feel the hair on his arm brush against your stomach as that forearm flexes with each thrust of his fingers.

With every pass of his rough fingers along your sensitive walls, you felt yourself nearing your first orgasm of many. That knot of warmth wound up tighter and tighter in your stomach, making you cry out into the kiss. Your brows knit together and your eyes clenched shut. You keep gripping onto his hairy forearm like you were searching for purchase, anchoring yourself to reality.

He swallowed every moan and sob that fell from your mouth, his tongue exploring your mouth and tasting every inch of you he could reach.
