Set in the 1970s against the backdrop of the naxalite movement and the Indian emergency, with some bits shot in Delhi, the movie Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi is about unrequited love & desire, conflicting ideologies & dreams, thwarted personal & political ambitions. When it released in the year 2003, we were fresh out of college, fermenting with ideas, dreams, desires. -- Years later, a lot has changed. More ideas, more dreams, more desires. Perhaps. Perhaps not. --- The movie stars my all-time favourite Kay Kay Menon but he wasn't so much the focus here. Two newcomers literally stole the shine from him here. This is the movie that gave us the handsome and promising (but who could have been so much more) actor Shiney Ahuja and talented Chitrangada Singh, who was hailed as the next Smita Patil. The movie itself was touted a sign of changing cinema with changing times at the dawn of the 21st century. #REVIEW BAHUT HUA SAMMAN RATING: 7/10 Deserves a Watch THE BLUF ( Bottom Line Up Front): A Comedy, Satire with miscellaneous paraphernalia about citizens' responsibility in a democracy. CAST: Sudhir Mishra, Ram Kapoor, Abhishek Chauhan. Raghav Juyal and Nidhi Singh. DIRECTOR: Ashish Shukla PRODUCER: Yoodle Films STREAMING ON : @hotstarusa THE POEF (Profanity Obscenity Expletives Factor): High THE MEAT AND POTATOES: Does a democracy impose duties and responsibilities upon its citizens? If it does, is it not the primary duty of those chosen to govern to be answerable to the masses. Bony ( Raghav Juyal) and Fundoo ( Abhishek Chauhan), while studying to be engineers at an Engineering Institution in Varanasi, cannot pass their final exams, causing them to look for menial jobs to sustain themselves desperately. Sanjay Mishra, as Baba Bakchod, tells them about a plan to earn millions by plotting to rob the Bank at their University, very sassily called the MCBC Bank. ( For crying out loud!) However, two petty thieves get to loot the Bank before the trio. The thieves are caught by a, befittingly casted bold, kickass police officer Bobby Tiwari ( Nidhi Tiwari). The bank loot has in its spoils the Kohinoor, which has many people interested in it. A slimy Ramdevish Guruji (Dibyendu Bhattacharya), a sycophantic Union Minister Ajay Singh ( Punkaj Kalraa), and his merciless hitman Lovely Singh (Ram Kapoor). And then starts a cat and mouse between the characters, to get to the Kohinoor. IN THE ZONE Sudhir Mishra is straight out badass as Baba Bakchod. He holds court. Abhishek Chauhan pulls off a persuasive act and fits into the role of as Fundoo with flawlessness. Raghav Juyal, apart from imparting extreme kawaii, takes his role as Bony to a fitting space. Nidhi Singh, as Bobby Tiwari, is ferocious and pulls off a terrific performance. The ultimate surprise of the movie is Ram Kapoor. Anubhav Sinha to produce an anthology based on COVID Pandemic, collaborates with Sudhir Mishra, Hansal Mehta, Ketan Mehta & Subhash Kapoor

Post the success of his critically-acclaimed film,��Thappad released this year, Anubhav Sinha has recently announced his next project – an anthology film based on stories and experiences from the coronavirus pandemic to be produced under his production banner, Benaras Mediaworks. Interestingly, the storyteller has joined hands with four of his filmmaker friends including Hansal Mehta, Sudhir Mishra, Ketan Mehta, and Subhash Kapoor to develop an anthology film focused on the subject that we are living through presently – the experiences of life amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Talking about the idea of an anthology and the inspiration behind it, Anubhav Sinha informs, “It will be an interesting bunch of names, to tell stories of an interesting time in our lives. We will all interpret this period – starting February/March 2020 – and we will all tell a story from it.” Anubhav Sinha, who is spearheading the collective effort, points out, “This is such an interesting time, you know – even though I realise interesting may not be the best word. Sudhir's driver had contracted COVID and he was unable to get a bed – and we were making all sorts of phone calls just to get him a hospital bed. Tisca Chopra: Working with a fresh director and newcomers is always fun - Ever since Taare Zameen Par (2007), which won Tisca Chopra rave reviews for her performance as the mother of a dyslexic boy, the actress has been playing strong roles in films that are off the beaten track. She will be seen next in Lashtam Pashtam, which is about brotherhood and friendship. Here, she talks about her role, working with newcomers and doing a web series...        The title Lashtam Pashtam has created quite a buzz. What does it mean?  It is from a song in the film, which is very catchy. The makers thought they would keep that as the title. It means a code of brotherhood. It’s also a folk proverb. I actually got to know the title after we finished the shoot! Tell us about the film and your role. The film is essentially about two boys — one from Pakistan and the other from India — who live in Dubai. They become friends, but their relationship takes a turn for the worse. How their friendship triumphs is what the film is about. I play a woman who is affected by one of the wars between India and Pakistan. She lives with the emotional scars of a personal tragedy, which she passes on to the next generation. It’s a character that starts off young and ages through the film. How was it working with a debutant director, Manav Bhalla, and the newcomers? It’s always nice to work with fresh directors. They bring such passion and enthusiasm to the work. It was fun working with Manav. The new actors are full of ideas. It’s lovely working with them. They are all a lot more trained than we used to be. Did you share screen space with Om Puri in the film? No, I didn’t share screen space with him because we are in different segments of the film. He plays a Pakistani character and I play an Indian. But the day Omji passed away, I was with Naseer sir (Naseeruddin Shah) and he told us a lot about him and one could gather he was a wonderful, warm man. Besides this film, what are you working on? I am shooting for a web series Hostages directed by Sudhir Mishra. It’s the official adaptation of an Israeli show by the same name. Then, I will start a bunch of films in September.
