now that SE is over, is there anything that you kept to yourself or hidden that you never revealed/mentioned? Would Mokuba question whatever happened to the professor? Gosh, and on top of it all, i just wanted to say thanks for my favorite fic of all time

I'm so glad you liked Syntax Error so much! Honestly, I can't express how nice it is to hear that it's your favorite fic of all time.

I actually started the fic while I was in college. I just really wanted to read Kaiba with a teacher (let's not investigate that) but at the time, that dynamic didn't exist anywhere that I could find. So I rolled up my sleeves and decided I would do it myself. Be the change you want to see and all that.

Then I lazily decided I didn't want to write the beginning. Thanks but no thanks. Let's start the story at the point where Kaiba has an interest. I'm not in the mood to build the relationship up. (I was a fool.)

Then I stopped writing for about three years. If I ever had a plan for Syntax Error, I forgot it. (If I'm honest, there is a very good chance I had no plan for the fic. I am often a pantser sort of writer. I start fics with vibes and nothing else.)

And then someone told me they were going to write a Kaiba/teacher fic but decided not to because I had already done so. It really made me regret the whole thing.

I'm ultimately happy with how the fic ended. (I feel it was perfect for that tale.) But given the murky beginnings, it really is nice to know that fic is so loved.

(Anyway, I know that people did pick up on this, but I never outright said it in the fic. Kaiba absolutely did install spyware on the reader's computer. He deleted many of her emails to get her in trouble.)

i remember my professor from that one class telling us that many translators decide to retranslate books, poems etc. that were already translated by someone else before because they think they can do a better job and at first i thought "no way people are so full of themselves to think like this and to base their work on that". but yesterday i read the polish localization of mouthwashing out of curiosity and i totally understand it now. it was so fucking bad

You ever read a fic written by someone where English is not their first language so there’s grammatical errors a native speaker would know not to make and you like the story! It’s a great premise! but you also just want to just real quick edit the grammar so that your brain can stop twitching?
