i think about the time you helped me look for my glasses a lot.

it’s nothing big, really. glasses tend to misplace more often than most people realize given the fact that the wearer needs them to see. speaking from experience, of course, glasses can prevent some serious accidents. embarrassing childhood memories come to mind that i’ll share with you one day, maybe. promise you won’t laugh.

back to the topic, though. embarrassingly enough, i’d misplaced the one pair i had on hand and didn’t like the idea of stumbling out of our apartment unable to see more than three feet ahead of me, so i searched the entire place top to bottom to no avail.

without my glasses. it’s funny, now that i think about it. definitely wasn’t in the moment, though.

you came home after your classes and found me laying on the floor in defeat. probably not the most pleasant way to find your lover, but i remember feeling an intense about of relief when i heard your voice. you asked me what was wrong and i told you i couldn’t find my stupid glasses.

it was silent for like 30 seconds. and then you laughed. at my peril, of all things. for moment i really did consider disappearing into the ground to live amongst the worms.

you dropped your bag and knelt beside me, grinning so wide, and i couldn’t help but hold my breath. i didn’t tell you then, but you looked really pretty up close. your fingers in my hair, with the slightest bits of mirth dancing in your eyes, and the promise ring i’d given you dangling from the small chain around your neck. you leaned in real close, and then did the unthinkable.

you pulled my glasses down from my hair.

this probably sounds cheesy, and i’m internally cringing at the thought of writing this, but my world literally brightened when you did so. it was like my surroundings had been colored in with you in the center, a soft smile on your lips as you chided me for forgetting that i’d pushed them up so easily. it would do me a great disservice if it continued to happen, but i wouldn’t mind losing my glasses if it meant i got to see you like that over and over again.

so i guess you could say bringing you into focus that day made me fall in love with you again. the way your eyes shone and nose scrunched up with laughter will forever be ingrained into my memory.
