I think a lot of fags overstate harm when they talk about "fujoshis" but it genuinely is kind of fucked up how sidelined gay men are in spaces for art about men loving men, both in terms of audience and creators. I don't think a lot of non-fags understand how unwelcoming and even outright hostile the atmosphere can be? And because there is a prevailing attitude that sex between two men is the most lurid, most scandalous act there is, there's this notion that no recommendation or discussion in any context could be inappropriate or vulgar, because two guys kissing is seen as an already shameful pleasure. Like... there's this sort of soft sense that every piece is on about the same level as a Fifty Shades of Gray by virtue of two men fucking being a shocking punchline on its own. I feel like a lot of people project this "oh did you know I read gay porn isn't that shocking and funny" things in a way that is, to me, cognitively on the level of audiences laughing at the mere existence of Brokeback Mountain.

And there's a reflexive guilt to talking about it because it's ultimately not a huge problem, and women who enjoy art like that often face yet more misogyny for it, but like. It is a form of homophobia and it isn't particularly easy to avoid if I want to actively seek out gay art, and I wish I could choose not to be reminded of that dehumanization every time I want to find a book recommendation. Just a recommendation to a forum populated by mostly faggot fantasy lit fans would be enough at this point.
