I was sorting through my game collection (as a nerd with collecting hobgoblin tendencies does) and thinking about how mediocre the pokemon games on switch have been. I loved pokemon as a kid, was forced to take a long break when I didn’t have a system, and then caught up with what I missed when I got my new 3DS XL. It was like I not only had a new pokemon game but several: sun, ultra sun, omega ruby, X, then the DS diamond and black 2 (never got a black or white). I was in my undergrad and not doing so hot socially—Pokémon was a huge comfort. I was so excited for the switch and its mainline pokemon games. I’d never had a TV console with pokemon on it before.

The switch pokemon game that got closest to the joy I experienced in the 3DS games was Let’s Go Eevee, purely because of the overworld mons and that it was the first one. Looking back on the other switch mainlines, the Let’s Go art style holds up really well. But unlike Sun or Ultra Sun, which I poured hours into, I didn’t get over 100 hours in Eevee.

It’s really hard to say if my expectations for the 3DS pokemon games were lower or if I had just been so in love with games again after a long break from them. If I’m being critical of the switch games (and I often am) it’s just that they feel like they’ve got so much less soul. There are so many quirky little side quests and details in the 3DS games that I felt like were missing in Shield and Scarlet. Pokémon Arceus is imo the best quality of the switch pokemon games because it mixes it up a bit but it still feels kind of lifeless to me.

Weirdly enough, I feel like one of my main issues is that there were way more towns with NPCs to talk to and maybe do small quests for in the older games. You can’t even go into most of the NPC houses in Scarlet. Each new region feels less and less like a silly little world I can imagine myself living in with my pokemon companions.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever be really happy with the new mainline pokemon games. I’ll keep playing them, though, and wanting to be. Really my ideal pokemon game would be something that keeps most/some of the pokemon formula but lets you be something other than *just* a kid trainer. Like an apprentice daycare worker or baker or hairstylist (people and pokemon alike) or professor/researcher or news reporter! I wanna be a pokemon archaeology student!! We had those mini games in X/Y which I thought were just a taste of another thing pokemon could be. I think Nintendo could dominate the cozy gaming market.

mkay um its white i have the settings on inbox for the disc drive to glow blue when i have a message it has a short offbrand power cable and off brand sensor bar but authentic composite cables it connects to a tiny car tv which the screen is like the size of a 3ds xl screen i use it with a pink controller which i got for 8 dollars and a 6 dollar offbrand pink nunchuck i have a disc holder so i can get caseless disc's off ebay for cheaper i have the Manuel's for the wii too it has been opened cause originally the discdrive was broken and i had to replace it and also the power button had to be fixed it was like bent or something it is the original one my family had well actually no because the first one we had was stolen so its the second one it used to be everyones then it broke and we got the black one and it was in the under my parents bed for a number of years until about last year when i found it and fixed it since it is close to the first wii it has all of my siblings miis from when they were young also it had like 100s of default male miis with basic names idk why i need to update my mods on it because forcast channel stopped working too
