Movie Review | The Scorpion With Two Tails (Martino, 1982)
Tumblr media
I don’t know if I’d call this a full on giallo, but it certainly is giallo-adjacent, so it’s interesting to consider this next to two more notable entries in the genre from the same year. Tenebre and The New York Ripper feel definitive. The former feels like the genre devouring itself, the latter feels like an explosion of its ugliest tendencies. There were certainly movies made in the genre afterwards, but they feel in a way like its final statements. This comparatively feels stodgy and inessential. There is enough in the way of classic genre elements, with the line between literal and perhaps less literal realities of the movie dissolving. But there is little of the viciousness of the other movies, little of the sense of audience complicity. The kills are bloodless, and instead rely on 180-degree head twists, an image the movie trots out regularly to amusing results. The one thing that makes this stand out are the archeological elements, which seem like an attempt to cash in on Raiders of the Lost Ark.
This is directed by Sergio Martino, who a decade earlier could be considered one of the masters of the genre, but at this point was trotting out extremely low wattage thrills in stuff like The Great Alligator, which is fun to veg out to but not terribly exciting. This is a similarly low energy affair, and it’s maddening to think it was originally supposed to a TV miniseries, presumably with endless, endless head twist scenes to fill the extra hours of runtime. Even more than most Italian horrors, this has a somnambulist quality to the proceedings.
So this is not very good, but I like the flavour of these Italian horrors, even in an extremely diluted form, so I had some fun with this even if I was zoning out pretty hard at times. The stuff with the Etruscan tombs is pretty fun and gives you some of the juice you can expect from the poster. And as these movies tend to reuse a lot of common cast members, I had fun once again hanging out with my good friends John Saxon and Paolo Malco, the latter of whom has one scene that justifies the price of admission. And I do not know if Elvire Audray is a great actress, but she pulls off the furrowed brows and startled reactions you need in this kind of material.

so what kind of vampires are present in cosmic legends?
Literally every single type, and this doesn't only pertain to Vampires.
Think of words like Vampire or Werewolf like the word Dog; it's an umbrella term that encompasses any number of different breeds.
A Yorki and a Great Dane are both Dogs, but you wouldn't call a Great Dane a Yorki, and vice versa, 'cause those terms refer to a specific breed.
So a Nosferatu and a Venerable Overlord are both Vampires, but if you referred to a Venerable Overlord as a Nosferatu, you'd get your face ripped off.
Same with Werewolves, Wolfmen and Sacred Wolves are both Werewolves, but it's wildly different strains of the Lycanthropy virus.
Note: I have used the most diluted forms (Nosferatu and Wolfmen) vs. the most pure forms (Venerable Overlords and Sacred Wolves) as my examples, but there are a lot more strains than what was listed. Also Diluted vs. Pure just refers to how much your line contains "turned" rather than "born". Some families care, others don't, the purity of which not really being the root of this, it's really just a personal preference thing.

Last Tribe A Day run cycle was today so I decided to combine them all to show the differences!
ID under the cut
[ID: Seven sketchy animated run cycles, all of the original dragon tribes from Wings of Fire. They alternate sides as they go down, starting with the top one on the left and the second on the right, and so on. The background is a blank white. Each dragon has shaded limbs to help see the differences while in movement. The right wing is the darkest shade, followed by the left wing (closest to the screen), the the right legs are the lightest shaded. Descriptions are in order from top to bottom:
Mudwing: Drawn in a dark red. The thickest dragon by far, opening is mouth in a smile as its front legs hit the ground. Its large wings have four toes as if they were a third set of talons, which is used as another set of legs while running. The wings lift off after the back legs. The entire body bobs with its weight while it runs, lunging with its back legs. One of its back legs disappears while it runs (oopsies) and its large tail flicks with the run.
Skywing: Drawn in a darker red. Much skinnier dragon with longer limbs and larger wings. Its large wings remain slight open above its border, slightly bobbing as it moves. The body itself doesn’t move up and down, instead just twisting with movement of its limbs. Its tail is a little stiff, again just moving up and down. As it runs, one foot touches and leaves the ground at a time.
Icewing: Drawn in a dark blue. Its body and shape is ridgid, its head swooping up and down like it lunges with every time its front talons land. Again, its wings are used as a third pair of legs, however they are mostly used after the other limbs are mid-air. Its talons are visibly sharper, as well as its wings. Sharp spines on the back of its neck and end of its tail are visible as well, which bobs with the movement.
Seawing: Drawn in a dark blue. A thicker, long dragon with short but thick limbs and webbed frills along its spine and sternum. It’s thick tail continues the up and down curve it’s body makes with every move, flicking the end of the frills as it does. Its wings are semi open above its body, bobbing with the running movement and tilting up and down as its spine curves.
Sandwing: Drawn in a warm brown. Long limbs but thicker than skywing. All four feet lift of the air when they’re closest during the run, each foot hitting the ground one at a time. It’s barbed scorpion-like tail bobs up and down at the end. Its wings are folded and stuff near its shoulders, tilted diagonally. A solid frill lines its spine, biggest at the back of its neck and above the back legs.
Nightwing: Drawn in a dark purple grey, and by far the stiffest run cycle. Thick body with short but thinner legs than mudwings or seawings. Spikes line the spine all along its body, longest at the back of the neck and back of the body. Its wings are held stiffly and slightly folded over its body. Other than the legs and tail, most of the nightwing barely moves as it runs, and its legs hit the ground in pairs, front legs then back legs. They don’t even cross between each other at the closest part in the run. Its mouth opens and closes as it runs, not in any particular expression, I was just bored.
Rainwing: Drawn in a muted dark green. By far the bounciest run. It has a thin body and a head I accidentally drew a little big. It’s three-toed wings are used as a third pair of legs, used most right before it’s front legs hit the ground. Its front legs hit the ground at different time, however the back legs hit and leave together. Its tail is by far the longest, curled at the end and slightly unraveling as it flicks up and down. Beneath the curved horns is a frill with two connections that slight opens and closes with the movement. It’s grin also opens and closes with the movement.

cw: monster fucker laios, shapeshifter!male!reader, marathon sex, creampie
thinking about laios pleading with his party members to allow you, a shapeshifter, to join them in rescuing his sister. his party reluctantly accepts you when they realize that you would be really useful to their cause since you can shift into any monster you pleased. laios wanted you to join him 50% because his chances of his sister being saved would increase exponentially…
and the other 50% was because he was immensely fascinated with you and your species. as your journey throughout the dungeon continues, your adoration and care for laios grew as well. he felt the exact same way about you. it wasn’t long until you both got… curious about each others bodies and took any chance when you made camp to fuck.
it was like the dungeon knew of your intentions, as a room always appeared for the two of you to take refuge in.
it wouldn’t help that you were a massive tease who loved to rile up laios by groping his clothed cock until he was hard and twitching in your palm. you wiped away the tears trickling down his flushed cheeks as you whispered the dirtiest thoughts you had in your mind in his ear. the tips of your mouth curled into a grin when your nose caught the sinful scent of pre gathering on the tip of his cock.
it doesn’t take long for laios to beg for relief, pathetically humping against your palm for the tiniest bit of friction. you could never say no to that adorable face of his. he unknowingly had you wrapped around his finger.
as your relationship continues, laios asks you out of the blue like the blunt man he is if you could have sex in your different monster/hybrid forms. he lasted about four rounds until you bottom out, your knot popping inside his sore hole and filling his stuffed ass with more cum. he lets out a breathy whine and lets his arms slump on top of the soft sheets of the bed, they’re tired after holding half of his weight up as you ravaged him.
his plush ass is a mess of white cum from previous rounds, some leaking out of the base of your cock where you two are connected and dripping down to the sheets.
your claws carefully fondled the fat of laios’ hips before slithering to his soft belly and push down on where you felt your cum sloshing inside him. laios let out a pitiful moan as his cock twitched and another spurt of cum stained the bedsheets.
you were honestly impressed he lasted this long. the first round was in your naga form. second round: your scorpion form, third round: bear, and now the fourth round: werewolf. he was one greedy boy. but now he was spent and satisfied. so were you.
you took generous sniffs of laios’ sweaty hair before softly licking his neck as you felt your knot soften enough to pull out. spurts of your cum left his gaping hole as he let out a sobbing sigh. overstimulated tears stinging his eyes as his soft cock hung uselessly between his legs. gods, just staring at his thighs makes you want to suffocate between them. definitely next time. until then, you’ve gotta take care of your precious laios.
laios weakly calls out your name.
“yes, baby?” you answered.
“do you think i’m pregnant now? you’ve cum so many times inside… it’s gotta happen. right?” laios said in a dazed voice, like he actually believed he could he impregnated.
you held back your laughter as you gather the tissues, your tail shamelessly wagging behind you. you love him so much.

Tribe Banner concept art:
Folks seemed to enjoy my WOF WIPS, so here’s more concept art for y’all! My favorite thing about WOF is the potential for world building. I thought it’d be cool to see a tribe emblem represented on a banner/flag of sorts:
Read below for some of the thought process / headcannons behind the design choices: 👇
Skywing Banner:
Skywings pride themselves on 3 things; treasure, fire, & their enormous, soaring wingspan which steals the sky.
As such, portrayed on the banner, the fabric (often made with dyed cow or goat leathers) resembles draped dragon wings. Two Skywings embrace a goblet, which is spewing golden fire.
The banner is often held aloft with iron or gold poles, signifying to other tribes their wealth and pride.
Mudwing banner:
These banners are fashioned with leather hides from cow or crocodile skin, held aloft with bamboo, and painted with a Talon-print & Reed crest.
The talonprint symbolizes community and the strength of Mudwing sibling bonds. The reed border unifies all Mudwings regardless of their relationship to home; the swamp. Bigwings are often seen carrying these into battle, signifing their status and making it easier for a sib to locate them in the flurry of a fight.
Sandwing Banner:
Sandwing flags are made with camel skins and dyed cactus leather.
A crest shows a Sandwing coiled around a beaming sun, a reminder that despite the revered 3 moons, Sandwings are born to thrive in sunlight.
The fabric is cut in a way to mimic the swooping dunes of Sandwing territory. And the poles of the flags are equally intricate, with scorpion tails and golden ropes which frame the banner.
These flags make prominent appearances in parades, festivals, and markets, and even miniature version are often displayed in homes or as tapestries/carpets.
Seawing banner:
These banners are often seen displayed in royal quarters or councils, or above land to mark territory.
A nautilus shell crest on front echoes the swirl-pattern associated with royal Seawings: The banner’s borders resemble waves and a dragon swimming beneath their surface.
These are crafted with rich materials, strung with seashells, pearls, silver dollars, and deep oceanic color fabric. There is severe penalty for Seawings found plucking treasure from the banners, as they are a direct symbol of royalty.
Nightwing Banner:
These banners emphasize the Nightwings’ relationship to the moon, their source of power and praise. The material, a contrast of white stitching against purple velvet showcases moonlight and night, black scales against stars, magic and mystery.
They are seen decorated with 3 moons at the top and a centered dragon reaching up into the night sky.
These banners were often used during the war as secret code by spies to deliver to other tribes. Prophecy scrolls often came attached, delivering cryptic messages or secrets in the night. These banners all helped add to the secrecy of the Dragonet Prophecy, and kept tribes on their toes around Nightwings.
Rainwing banner:
Rainwing banners are not used for battle purposes like other tribes, most are mere decoration, location indicators, and have no unified design.
However, It is said back when Rainwings left the rainforest to trade pre-war, this particular banner design was often raised above Rainwing merchant tables, and showcases the coiled tail of a Rainwing with leaves, vines, and other sights from the rainforest adorning a bamboo pole. Bright color combinations accentuated the flag to entice curious customers.
Now, only one tattered version of the original Rainwing banner remains, displayed proudly in Queen Glory’s quarters, a reminder that building the Rainwings’ community is their most important goal.
Icewing Banner:
These banners reflect the same standards Icewings hold themselves to.
Like a visual of the rankings themselves, each banner is cut perfectly from an Icewing’s trained, serrated claws to resemble icicles, and crafted with fine blue stitching.
Flags are often held aloft with perfectly polished narwhal horn or bone, and can be inlaid with sapphires or diamond.
Icewing soldiers are often gifted these during ceremonies, and perform training exercises with the flags to test their stance/attentiveness. The crest showcases the swift sharpness of ice through a flying dragon, and a snowflake toward the bottom reminding Icewings that even minuscule snowflakes, small things, should be perfect in form.

Music from The Scorpion With Two Tails plays in my head when writing Part 3 of my critique of Revolutionary Demonology. Or really just one specific track that I'm having trouble finding in the soundtrack. I think it plays in scenes such as when the protagonist and her drug-trading dad are being chased by a motorcycling assassin. I have to admit I have a soft spot for that movie. It's so weird it sticks to me.

I've worn glasses since I was two and my eyesight, as with most people, has declined a bit as I've gotten older. I don't shower with my glasses on for self-evident reasons but one hardly needs to most of the time....
So when I was in the middle of cleansing the mortal husk this morning, I saw something move out of the corner of my eye but it was too tiny for me to discern. My folks live in something adjacent to the boondocks and they often deal with Creatures, which occasionally are Scorpions, so I went "Ouuuuaghhha!" and backed away from the small reddish thing writhing around in the gap between bathtub and wall.
Once I saw it move I realized it wasn't a scorpion, but I couldn't tell what it was, so I rinsed and dried very quickly and got my glasses on, and behold! A Creature!
