I just finished watching Tsiskaridze's 7th year exam... I have lots of opinions...
I did not like it.
1. The pointe shoes come on too early. They did the first small adage and the rest was en pointe. I am perhaps one of the few people on this earth who finds pointe shoes more easy to dance in than flats, pointe shoes have a rise and fall, there's an up and down, and these days the shoes help us both go up and stay up (I too wear Gaynor knock offs, I don't think it's "cheating", but it objectively is easier). They need the exercises to be done on half toes, it aids to the development on turnout through the way of using the floor, these are students, this is training, it should not be a performance. The legs aren't warm enough, pointe shoes come on AFTER allegro in the method for a reason. And movement quality gets lost, like what happened in fondu, also whole movements are lost, like flic-flac and reverse en ecarte.
2. Loss of technique: the girls jump lovely with height and ballon, but they land sloppily. Dirty fifths, turned in knees, weak batterie. All those things were crucial in the Vaganova style even a decade ago. If you go further back, in Somova or Novikova/Obraztsova graduation years, the allegro was textbook perfection, it was unreal how clean every movement was. This class was just okay; they jump strongly but that's about it. To me it seems like the teacher didn't insist on cleanliness, either excused it because of the added difficulty of the pointe shoes* or ignored it in favour of proving his choreographic talents (which are obviously wonderful, just not suited for a school exam).
*nobody cares if pointe shoes make it harder. If it can't be done well with them on, you should have the students take them off.
3. Loss of coordination in hands and arms: fairly obvious if you've watched enough Vaganova classes. There are moments where the arms are awkward because they don't have a clear place to be, they haven't been trained or paid attention to enough. Again, I blame the pointe shoes, these are students who are supposed to understand the use of user body in these final 3 years, yet they're told to forget what they were building towards, focus even more on footwork and nevermind the port de bras. Nikolay had naturally beautiful coordinated arms and I wonder if he can't pass that to his students because he never struggled with it.
4. Too much allegro too early: this was a men's class. I don't have a lot to say on this, it's quite straightforward. Some combinations were even the same as his past classes, lacking that feminine Vaganova grace because they were made for boys.
5. All this culminates into a Bolshoi style exam, Bolshoi style class, Bolshoi style dancers. Do that extra turn even though you are behind everyone else. Do all double fouettes even though you can't land it. Vaganova had that noble grace, polished simplicity. They were a corps de ballet, now everyone is dancing for themselves. Russians more than anyone know most students end up in the corps, and that's what they're trained for. Nikolay himself has said "careers are made in the theatre, school is for learning". You learn in a class, not in a choreography. Ballet discipline is learning to all be the same, do the exact same thing, even if you're Ulanova dancing next to cotton eye Joe.
I used to be a fan of Tsiskaridze's classes, now I truly feel like he'd be better off in Moscow, and Vaganova get a Vaganova trained dean. I wonder if Lopatkina is interested in teaching.

Chapter One Below
She saw him for the first time on a Tuesday. She remembered it was a Tuesday because she hated Tuesdays. On Tuesdays she had Cheer and then she had Pointe class in Muncee, which meant a one hour drive to the dance studio and then back, because Hawkins didn't have a dance studio. Well they did. But they didn't teach the Vaganova method there. And her Mom said that the Vaganova method was the only really good way to study ballet. So on Tuesdays she had pointe, which Chrissy tried to enjoy but secretly, shamefully, hated. She liked Pas de Deux classes much better, when they got to practice lifts with the boys. Where you got to fly. She felt that when you were raised up high by the male dancers, up to the ceiling, you were eternal. You were at the peak of the spectacle. You were an angel. You could not fall. No one could touch you. It’s why she liked cheering, too. Getting to be thrown up into the air, completely weightless for those few seconds.
But just normal pointe lessons rankled her. Her hair by that point was in a bun for three hours so her skull was aching, and she was hungrier than usual, and lightheaded from smoking so many cigarettes during break to keep up with the other girls and seem normal. So on a Tuesday morning the week before Halloween, when she woke up and looked at the clothes her mother had laid out, she wasn't expecting him. She wasn't expecting anything. Or thinking anything, really. Just doll thoughts. Put on shirt. Button in hole. Her mind was asleep where it liked to go a lot of the time, when it wasn't lit up with fire. In the mirror she put on the makeup her mother laid out. Pink eyeshadow today. Hair up. Earrings. Staring back at her was a face of someone she did not recognize. She could see this face in the halls at school on some other girl and it would be a complete stranger to her. Like a cut out of paper doll. A girl is there, she thought. Or something that looks like one. Her skin itched. She clutched her hands together. She clawed at her palms. She existed. She existed. It felt like a lie, like the more she repeated it the less real she became. On Tuesday she wasn't expecting anything. But she should have. Later it didn't seem fair for it to come so out of the blue. Like life was divided into two halves: before the Robin's Egg Blue, and After.
-
Her and Tammy were halfway from the parking lot to the front door of the school when it happened. Jason and Chance were approaching them, parting off from the rest of the team like lions going for the kill. And her, of course, the prey. Always. Chrissy wanted to groan. Her Mom wanted her really really badly to date Jason. Which she didn't get, because her Mom hated when she dated anyone. Like, literally refused it. And that was fine with Chrissy. If she had Mom she didn't need a boyfriend. Her and Mom were totally best friends. They did everything together. A boy wouldn't understand. Would distract her. But Mom wanted her to date Jason, and Jason wanted her to date Jason, and Chrissy felt so guilty because he was handsome but she just couldn't do it. She didn't want them to feel bad. She was dragging her feet. He just wasn't interesting. He was like everyone else. Boring. Boring. And wanting something from her. Wanting her performance. The problem wasn't him. The problem was her. She wasn't normal. She liked people, she liked a lot of people. But in a general sense, like, in the sense that she loved mankind. Individuals, she didn't want to get near. They crowded her, they wanted too much, they were confusing. She had to perform for them, all of them, all of the time. They wanted to touch her. She could do it for her Mom, but Mom was family. And suffering for your family is a lot easier than suffering for people you don't really know or care too much about.
Jason was approaching, Tammy laughing beside her, when the car pulled up. Robin's egg blue, AD. After the death of everything else. Blasting Motley Crüe, which she didn't recognize then, just thought it was noise that was l o u d. And the car speeding, tires fuming on the black-top. And then the car stopped. They were staring. It felt like the whole of Hawkins was staring. A red haired girl got out of the back and skated away. And then. And then. Sort of like the center point of the turning world, he appeared, and all motion stopped. Like the world slowed down, almost going in reserve. All of history leading up to this one moment. Blonde. Blonde. So Blonde. Only thought in her head. Oh no. She was fucked.
He had sunglasses on, and he was smoking a cigarette, letting it dangle off his lips like it could fall at any second, and he was so cool. Oh no. She turned away and kept walking and the world sped back up. Walking faster. Oh no. She looked back, couldn't help it really. He hadn't seen her yet, thank goodness. Just surveying the territory. He was dangerous. She could tell. He looked smug, and above it all. She had thought Jason was like a lion but she was wrong. This was a real apex predator. A snake maybe. Or a panther. He wasn't human. Which was the important part. He was much, much more. She wanted to be a lamb. Or a bunny rabbit. She wanted to lay down and let him grab her in his jaws and shake until her neck broke. That would be a good way to go. Just like falling off the top of the pyramid, but better. Because it would be something beautiful ending her life. And that counted for a lot.
She was almost running, panicking. She had never felt anything before like this towards her friends or her Mom or any boys who asked her on dates. It was coursing through her. White hot want.
"Wait. Shit, Chris, wait up!"
Tammy was grabbing her arm. Chrissy turned to her, and she could tell the mask was slipping, because Tammy looked scared.
"Are you okay?"
"I..."
She didn't know what to say. She loved Tammy, sort of. But distantly. She felt sick. She couldn't tell her.
"I'm fine!"
"Did you see the new kid?"
Chrissy nodded, mutely. They were inside now, so it was all okay. Approaching her locker. Was something wrong with her? Her heart wouldn't stop racing. Her whole body was on fire.
"He..."
She cleared her throat.
"He had a nice car."
Tammy laughed.

Basics of Ballet: How To Get Started
Ballet is a well-known activity for young girls and boys interested in dance. Most ballet schools will have classes that accept students as young as three years old. Ballet students can keep practicing ballet recreationally, or they can aim to compete in ballet competitions or work towards a career as professional ballet dancers.
Today, ballet has become more inclusive, and most ballet schools nowadays will also have beginner ballet classes for adults or ballet fitness classes. Ballet is now more accessible to people who did not learn it as a child but would want to learn ballet as an adult, either for fun or as part of their active lifestyle. Ballet fitness classes are a subtype of ballet classes that focus mostly on exercises and workouts that are grounded in ballet theories and movements.
Whether you or your child wants to pursue ballet, it’s always best to start with the basics. When you begin to take classes, you can practice the basics of ballet at home. Just ensure that you have ample space to move and practice. The best way to support your newfound interest in ballet is to have a home that allows you to engage in activities you find joy in, such as ballet.
Build a home studio in your own modern luxury house at Lausanne at Crosswinds, or dedicate a corner of your condo at Alpine Villas Tagaytay as your ballet space. Brittany Living allows you to have a luxury lifestyle you love while living in a luxury community expertly designed by Brittany Corporation.
The History of Ballet
Ballet is a Renaissance-era dance form that originated in Italy. But it was only when the dance gained popularity in France and then Russia that ballet was codified and taught with a well-developed curriculum.
King Louis XIV established the Royal Dance Academy in France to standardize ballet and certify teachers and instructors. This is why, as you learn the basics of ballet, you will find that most of the terms used in this dance are actually in French.
Today, there are several styles of ballet, such as classical, romantic, neoclassical, and contemporary. Each style is identified by the different techniques and storytelling elements they use. There are also different methods of teaching ballet, which emerged from different countries and are often named after the person who developed them.
These teaching methods include the French School, the Vaganova Method developed by Agrippina Vaganova in Russia, the Cecchetti Method developed by Italian dancer Enrico Cecchetti, the Bournonville Method developed by Danish ballet master August Bournonville, the Royal Academy of Dance Method or the English style, and the Balanchine Method or American style developed by George Balanchine. Each school of ballet emphasizes different things in their teachings, but all follow the similar basics of ballet in their schools.
The Five Basic Positions of Ballet
Every beginner in ballet will learn the five basic positions for their feet and arms. These five positions are often some of the first lessons to be taught in a ballet class. These positions truly are the backbone of the basics of ballet and will allow dancers to progress to more advanced movements as they learn and gain strength.
Preparatory Position
While not officially part of the five basic positions, standing in a preparatory position is a crucial step in any dance class or performance. A dancer is not only judged by the way they move. They are also assessed based on how they stand and walk.
To stand in preparatory, a dancer has to stand with both feet in the first position, or with their heels together and toes pointing outward. Arms are down at the sides, but slightly forward, with wrists and fingers slightly bent. Dancers must stand straight, with the head and shoulders relaxed.
First Position
For the feet, the first position means standing with the heels touching, and the toes pointing outward. The legs are kept straight.
The arms are raised forward in front of the body in the first position. The elbows are bent slightly, making the arms slightly rounded. The fingers are pointed towards each other.
Second Position
In the second position, the feet are separated and they are about hip-width apart. The heels are still in, the toes remain pointed outward, and the knees remain straight.
For the arms, the second position means the arms are extended to the sides of the body. With the arms in a horizontal position, the wrist is bent slightly downwards.
Third Position
For the third position, take one foot and position it so that the heel of the front foot is touching the middle of the arch of the back foot. Knees are straight and toes point outwards.
The arms will now be in different positions relative to each other.  Raise one arm overhead, the arm opposite of the front leg. The other arm will remain raised horizontally at your side. This means that when doing the third position with the right foot in front, the left arm is raised overhead and the right arm is extended out to the side.
Fourth Position
In the fourth position, move one foot forward and away from the back foot. The heel of the front foot should be in line with the toe of the back foot.
For the arms, the arm raised overhead for the third position will remain overhead, while the other arm will be raised in front as if in the first position. Both elbows will be bent slightly, making the arms look slightly curved.
Fifth Position
The feet are brought close back together, with the heel of one foot touching the toe of the other foot. Both arms are raised overhead, with the elbows and wrists bent slightly to give that curved shape.
Basic Ballet Terms You Need to Know
As ballet is a highly technical form of dance, there are terms for each movement, and teaching dancers these terms also teaches the basics of ballet. These terms are often in French, and a ballet class often begins with these movements as part of the warm-up and training.
Barre
A barre is a bar attached to walls or a freestanding bar that dancers use for warm-ups, barre exercises, and for balance. Barre can be made of wood, metal, or plastic. It is usually about four feet tall and is either bolted to the floor or screwed into a weight-bearing wall. The barre is an important piece of equipment in ballet studios, as it provides support and stability for dancers while they are practicing.
Many ballet exercises are performed at the barre, and it is also used as a prop in some dance routines. Barre workouts have grown in popularity in recent years because they provide a low-impact form of strength training that can be performed by people of all levels of fitness. Whether you are a dancer or just looking for a new way to stay fit, working out at the barre can be a great option.
Plié
The plié is a fundamental movement in ballet. To execute a proper plié, a dancer must bend both knees while maintaining the legs and feet in a turned-out position. There are two types of pliés: the demi plié and the grand plié. The demi plié is a small bend; the feet remain flat on the floor throughout the movement.
The grand plié, on the other hand, is a deeper bend; during this movement, the heels are lifted off the floor. Though both types of pliés are essential for any ballet dancer, the grand plié is particularly important because it helps to build strength and resilience in the legs and feet.

Relevé
Relevé is an important movement in ballet. It is used to transition from one position to another and to create a fluid, graceful motion. The dancer must be very careful to maintain balance and control while performing a relevé. If done correctly, the movement will appear effortless and will add beauty and elegance to the dance. Although it may appear simple, relevé is actually quite complex and takes a great deal of practice to perfect. F
or beginners, it is important to start slowly and carefully before attempting to move faster or add any embellishments. With time and patience, any dancer can learn to execute a beautiful relevé.
Pirouette
A pirouette is a full turn on one foot. It’s a movement that dancers train to be able to do with increasing grace and skill. When executed correctly, a pirouette looks effortless, but it actually requires a great deal of strength and control. The dancer must be able to maintain balance while spinning at high speed. They must also have the flexibility to extend their leg fully and the stamina to sustain the turn for the duration of the music. A good pirouette is both technically sound and aesthetically pleasing, and it takes years of practice to perfect this challenging move. For many dancers, nailing that perfect pirouette is the ultimate goal.
En Pointe
En pointe is a technique used in ballet dancing, in which the dancer stands on the tips of their toes. This technique allows for a greater range of movement and makes it possible to execute complicated dance moves that would otherwise be impossible.
En pointe also refers to the fact that a dancer is ready to start training in pointe shoes, which is a more advanced skill. Pointe shoes are designed to support the dancer’s weight on the tips of their toes and enable them to dance for extended periods of time without pain or fatigue. Training in pointe shoes requires a great deal of strength and stamina, as well as a high level of skill. Dancers who have mastered en pointe technique are truly among the elite in the world.
Conclusion
One of the most beautiful and athletic dance forms is ballet. It welcomes dancers of all ages and skill levels. It is a dance that tells a story with the music and the movements. The dancers are lifted by the music, and their movements express the music’s emotions. The story is told through the beauty of the ballet, rather than through words. The dancers are in perfect harmony with the music and with each other. They move as one flowing entity.
The beauty of ballet is in its simplicity. There are no props or special effects, just the dancers and the music. Every performance is different and unique, yet there is always a sense of perfection. Ballet is a dance that will never be outdated or go out of style. It is a timeless art form that will always be appreciated by those who witness it.

Korean Barbie Is Now On TrueFanz!
Tumblr media
We love shining a light on our TrueFanz creators and telling the world all about them. Today is no different as we’re putting the one and only Korean Barbie front and center!
As with all of our TrueFanz creators, there’s a lot to learn about Korean Barbie and how she came to achieve her successes. She is a multidimensional gal, and here you have the chance to learn all about her (and subscribe to her TrueFanz channel).
Want to learn more about our newest TrueFanz creator? Let us introduce you properly.
Introducing: The Korean Barbie On TrueFanz
The Korean Barbie is still fairly new to the TrueFanz platform, but she’s all over social media - even Amazon - and it’s only a matter of time before she racks up a hefty following.
But who exactly is Korean Barbie and what is she all about?
Her birth name is Kara Flemming, and you may recognize her on Instagram as @Korean.barbie, on Twitter as @Karaohkey, or on TikTok as @korean.barbie1. Of course, you may also recognize her as one of Finesse Modeling’s Bare knuckle Ring Girls or, of course, as an award-winning contestant in the Miss Utah USA and Miss Utah Teen USA beauty pageant in 2020.
Kara is a self-proclaimed “girly girl” who loves all things glamorous and elegant. She’ll be the first to admit that she has a love for evening gowns and makeup — she even gives the rundown of her daily makeup routine on her blog. However, her makeup routine only takes about 15 minutes, and her favorite products aren’t hard to come by, which tells us that despite being all about the glitz and glam, she’s a woman that appreciates simplicity and efficiency.
Of course, Kara is more than just a pretty face (with or without makeup). We’ll start from the beginning!
Kara was keenly nicknamed Korean Barbie as she is half-Korean and half-British/Irish. Of course, her adoptive parents purposely named her Kara because it means “pure” in Greek, which is fitting for her nature.
From a very young age, Kara was a lover of dance and even focused on the Russian method of ballet, also known as Vaganova Ballet from the ages of six to fourteen. She also got into competitive Irish Step Dancing, which is how she discovered her love for competition. After experiencing a serious ankle injury, Kara turned to Ballroom dancing as she had difficulty regaining the foot strength needed to perform in pointe shoes, which she fell in love with to the point of winning a national title for it in 2016.
Another unique thing about Kara is that she graduated high school with a degree! (An Associate’s Degree in Science, to be exact). She went on to study at Utah Valley University, where she admittedly and exhaustingly switched majors a bunch of times but still left with four technology certifications and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems.
We told you she was multidimensional!
From there, Kara won a full scholarship to attend grad school at the International American University in California, which she achieved through the Miss Asia USA pageant. That’s right, she’s a pageant girl, and it’s all thanks to her love for the competitive life.
Being that she had to put her dancing on hold while studying at college, she became restless. Once she saw that her university had a pageant, she immediately registered. By 2020, she had placed as a semi-finalist for Miss Utah USA and was subsequently offered a modeling contract with MMG-NY.
Modeling was cool, but winning a pageant would be way cooler — especially a pageant geared toward the Asian community. That’s why Kara jumped on the opportunity to join in on the Miss Asia USA pageant, which eventually landed her a Hills Beauty Club sponsorship AND a crown!
Now, Kara is a pageant winner and a model. While she has her sights set on acting next, she still hopes to dance, get signed with her dream modeling agency, and complete her MBA. It goes without saying she’s an ambitious young woman, and she’ll likely go on to continue advancing her pageant and modeling career as well as achieve all of her other goals.
After all, she’s already achieved so much by the age of 20, which is what makes her such an incredible inspiration for women everywhere and of all ages. She’s even taking that inspiration and converting it into a consulting practice for other girls that are thinking about modeling and need a mentor — and who wouldn’t want the mentorship of a pageant-winning beauty queen with her brains?

Note
I'm sorry if this has been asked before (and maybe sounds so silly), but in schools like AGP, TAZ, John Cranko, DNBA, which ballet style/method did they use there? Also, in term of outcome, is it better to focus on one training method or combining several methods (for example, a dancer was initially trained in Vaganova method, but they changed to another method halfway through their education)? Thank you in advance :)
Those schools you mentioned are "European" style schools, meaning they blend French/Italian methods. Honestly, the technique's specifics largely depend on the director and the education of the current faculty. Some have also been influenced by the school's history and the style of prominent choreographers/directors that have come from that school.
Having one training method at least as a foundation is more cohesive in my opinion. It certainly looks more unified when the corps de ballet is from one company. However, the dance world is moving faster and faster nowadays, and companies are facing a wider repertoire now than ever before. It's advantageous for a dancer to be able to move well in a variety of genres and techniques.

Explore a Range of Styles With Dance Classes
Tumblr media
When you enroll your child in dance classes, they will be able to explore a range of different styles of dance and find a style they enjoy the most. There are classes available for children of all levels and ages, and they will be able to make friends and work together while learning a new skill.
If you have never taken a dance class before, you will want to start small and get a taste of the genre before you take it up more seriously. You can also sign up for private lessons if you'd prefer to receive personalized feedback. Most classes will last 45 minutes to two hours, and include a warm-up, bar work, and floor routines. Private classes will also often include choreography.
Many children who enroll in dance classes enjoy jazz and ballet. These dance styles are both fun and fitness-building. Ballet classes teach your child the basics of ballet and are recommended for children aged seven and older. For those who like to dance more lyrically, jazz is an excellent choice. This type of dance is upbeat and can give your child more confidence in the world.
Private lessons can be extremely helpful for those who are new to dancing. Beginners will learn from an experienced dance instructor. Private lessons will also help them develop personal goals for their dancing. However, private dance lessons will require a lot of practice and dedication. Beginners should keep their minds open and be willing to try new things.
A 90-minute class designed for beginners can be challenging and fun. Dance instructors will use the Vaganova method to teach ballet technique. Students will learn the fundamentals of ballet technique, such as spirals, contractions, and simple floor work. The music is live and the class atmosphere is positive and motivating. In addition to dancing, many of these classes will also provide a good workout. A full-body dance workout is a great way to stay fit and stay motivated.
Beginner ballet classes are great for beginners as well as those who want to pursue dance as a career. Beginners will learn the basics of ballet and gain confidence in the dance world. Beginners will also benefit from the advanced level classes. They can also take up classes at the utah dance studio that focus on specific choreography. For example, they may want to learn more about the famous Trisha Brown. The class is taught by a rotating roster of former dancers and focuses on developing a strong understanding of choreographic vocabulary and breathing exercises.
Dance classes are an excellent way to interact with others and meet new people. Some instructors offer private lessons as well as group classes for beginners. The instructors typically instruct students verbally and demonstrate each move. The class usually starts with warm-up exercises that prepare the body for the dance. Then, the teacher breaks down the routine for students to learn and then puts it all together.
