Thought I’d do a little art throwback with my own historically accurate (well mostly) takes on Disney princesses and heroines, which I did from 2021 to 2022! Included in this series are:
Snow White - early 16th century Germany (then part of the Holy Roman Empire)
Cinderella - late 1860s-early 1870s France
Aurora - mid 15th century France
Eilonwy - 8th-10th century (present day) Wales
Ariel - 1830s Mediterranean Europe (maybe Italy)
Belle - 1760s-1770s France
Jasmine - 16th century Arabian Peninsula during the Ottoman Empire
Pocahontas - 1607 Virginia, (present day) United States of America
Esmeralda - 1480s France (Romani garb)
Megara - Classical period of Ancient Greece (c. 5th-4th centuries BCE)
Mulan - Wei Dynasty China (386-535 AD)
Jane - 1900s England
Tiana - late 1920s New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
Rapunzel - 1790s-1800s Germany
Merida - 10th-11th century (present day) Scotland
Elsa - late 1830s-early 1840s Norway
Anna - same period as Elsa (duh)
Moana - ancient Polynesian Islands (c. 1st century BCE)
I had so much fun drawing these, as well as doing the research for each one! I actually drew most of the outfits each one wears (in their first movies) but they're waaaaay down further in my blog.
I'm planning to do a digital redo of these someday, as well as do my own historical spins on other characters I haven't done yet.
Which one is your favorite?

I'm ONLY counting the films from the Walt Disney Animation Studios line-up between 1967 (after The Jungle Book) and 1989 (before The Little Mermaid). There's some debate on what this era of Disney animation is called, so I went with both titles I tend to hear a lot. I feel like this poll requires a fairly niche audience since a lot of these are (sadly) forgotten.

Scene from a hypothetical crossover I’ve had rotating in my brain for months. Background is traced from a painting by James Coleman, the original painting is under the cut. My version is nowhere near his level of quality, but it’s my first time attempting a background like this.
Tumblr took a sledgehammer to the quality here omg

I love you, media and music based on folklore, mythology, and old stories passed on from generation to generation. I love you, people who take these sorts of things “too seriously” and begin genuinely analysing what’s generally overlooked as a silly story. I love you, people who both romanticise these stories and point out the very real horror that lies in a lot of them. I love you, people who refuse to let the stories and folklore important to their culture fade away, even when for hundreds or even thousands of years people have attempted to erase their history and culture. I love you, people who reclaim their people’s stories and tell them from the mouths of those it originally belonged to. I love yo

SO uh. With the Gollum game coming out (for good or ill), I've had the guy on my mind lately and today I had a terrible epiphany, a breakthrough in the academic field of Weird Little Freak Studies:
look at me. Look me dead in the eyes. This is the same species of guy. They are brothers. If not by blood, than in spirit.
they BOTH throw themselves to their deaths from a height into a traditionally-hot thing (cauldron vs volcano) and, deliberately or unintentionally, bring down some powerful evil villain the heroes couldn't kill!! They're small and unpleasant and have an odd speech pattern! They hassle a white boy for some precious, coveted object:
I don't know what to do with this information and probably you won't, either, but I had to share. My eyes are opened forever

Just two monster husbands enjoying Disney’s Gibson Girl Ice Cream. Tried something new and it came out a bit nostalgic, since I’ve sat in the window seat when I went a while back.

THE BLACK CAULDRON WAS HEAVILY FEATURED IN ONCE UPON A STUDIO!!!
I swear, there is a disney exec out there that secretly loves this movie and wants to give us crumbs whenever possible. Either that or they're trying to us the IP enough that people don't riot for them to relinquish their rights.
But Gurgi was sung to by Pocahontas, Eilonwy was included in the same shot as Snow White, Mulan and Asha!
In the final photo we can see Taran holding Hen, with Eilonwy and Fflewdur, then with the Horned King in the back. Gurgi is on the plane's wing and I believe the character to the right of him is in fact Creature. Like... WHAT. Y'all this is insane. So, so happy they are using this amazing series for what it's worth.
