Can I just— they are poetry.

She sees everything and he hears everything. He has scars and she calls them beautiful. He actively avoids physical contact, yet reaches out for her—keeps gently taking her hand in his, carries her over thresholds, cradled her to his chest, shares stolen brushes of fingers with her. From their 1st meeting he notices her and she finds comfort in him; he’s always seen her, she has never balked from him.

She is light & life and he is shadows & death, she is a nurturer at heart and he has been pushed into the role of a torturer. He owns a mystical blade which he’s never let anyone touch in the 500 yrs he’s had it, and he gives it to her so she can defend herself.

She is quiet in a sunny way and he is quiet in a brooding way. They both wear masks, both casually step out of shadows, both are adept secret keepers, both quietly move and sneak around, both keep surprising their entourage with how they act with the other, both have voices/visions howling in their heads, and both have made of observation an art form.

He is a man who has been cruelly deprived of light as a boy, and she is the woman he sees as his sun—the woman he thinks glows like the sun at dawn. She is brushed aside—and likely believes herself a burden to others—but he sees her, listens to her, & tells her that she is needed; he believes his value is in what he can offer others—in his Shadowsinger abilities and his Spymaster title and his occupation as the NC’s torturer—and she shows him she cares for him in the quiet moments between it all, when he gets to be just… Azriel. He shows her she matters and she shows him he doesn’t need to be needed to be loved.

They both have a lot heading their way, but amidst the chaos they’ll find peace and quiet and comfort with one another, alone together. For she, who has never really had any choice in what happens to her, yet quietly powers on, would take fate into her own hands to choose a man who’s never really been chosen before; a man who believes himself unworthy of that kind of love, that kind of devotion.

Oh Elriel, you are so loved.

Welp, I got a new comfort ship and hyper-fixation now 😂. It’s been weeks since I’ve discovered Barbie x Gloria, and I’ve already latched onto Grace and Freddie like a vice grip. I’m ALWAYS here for a good “Friends to Lovers”.

I love how before he hugged Zo, Joke asked for consent. Yes it was silent but if Zo didn't want it he would have pushed Joke away and he knew that. I also love how Joke always planned on doing this and that is why he took his shirt off and I love him for it.
