I saw that you like CATS the musical. What are your thoughts on the movie?

AAAAH AHHAHA oh man oh boy y'all should BUCKLE IN cuz it's a ride

my simple thoughts? it's entertaining if only because it butchered the stage show so badly in an attempt to idk modernize it? Well, modernization is one part of it I think. The other part I'll go into below lol. I don't necessarily hate some of the more modern renditions of the songs (mostly the ensemble sets like Jellicle Song for Jellicle Cats) but then others are just... so poorly done it's insulting.

I've said this at the end of this whole rant too but I'm gonna put it up here in case people don't (justifiably) wanna see me go on and on about it:

The movie wasn't made for fans of the musical. It was made to make money and I believe they choose, at least partially, to do that through making it the weirdest and worst possible adaptation they could so that people would want to go see the train wreck. Which, really, worked! It was all people could talk about for a good while so like... Goal achieved, I guess.

A MUCH MORE COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS UNDER THE CUT cuz i don't wanna. flood your dash with... this

ALRIGHT SO. Most of my friends know I'm actually a huge fan of new adaptations of things. I love remakes (provided the people making it are coming at it with some form of heart and not just... cash grabbing which is more often the case) I love seeing other peoples interpretations of characters, or changing settings. It's one of the reasons I like American comics so much, getting to see different writers takes is fascinating.

I think musical movies can be wonderful ways to introduce people to a stage show that might have been unavailable to them otherwise! Chicago, for example, is one of the BEST musical to movie adaptations in my opinion. It kept the heart of the show, it's funny and the song numbers are done really well.

There are of course other famous examples, such as Grease or Bye Bye Birdie. Hairspray was also a wonderful take. These are simply off the top of my head, there are of course more.

CATS in particular has a history. If you go through my CATS tag you may see a few posts from @catsnonreplica which posts photos from non broadway productions of CATS! It's a fascinating read and I love, love, love looking at the other interpretations of the characters! CATS is a musical full of fun and wonderful characters if you take the time to see past the ridiculousness haha and the Korean and Japanese runs of CATS especially have some of my favourites.

How does this relate to the movie, I hear you say well. As you might has noticed the movie's interpretations of the characters is........ lackluster at best and downright uncanny valley at best.

CATS is, at its core, a ridiculous thing. I will fully admit that! But it's fun, it's entertaining and if you pay a little attention you can actually get the plot. (Honestly I don't understand when people complain it has no plot but that's a whole other rant for another day)

The movie was... obsessed with this idea of like... semi realism? Like obviously, as a fan, I think they should have leaned into the over the top character designs but instead we got...w ell:

Bombalurina:

Demeter left and Bomba right. Demeter was actually cut! From the movie which is. upsetting lmao.

Macavity is one of the worst offenders for me:

Macavity was... I wish I could know what the hell they were thinking there cuz it's even in his song? Ginger cat??? THAT IS NOT... A GINGER CAT...... but I digress. I would show more examples but I think you get the point.

So. We've butchered the characters appearances. Okay that's fine but what about their personalities?

ALSO BUTCHERED.

There's... there's a lot to unpack here. Just for context: the Jellicle Ball happens once a year and the Jellicle leader chooses a single cat to be reborn into a new life. In the stage play all the cats who are nominated for this honour are on the older side (Jenny-Any-Dots, Bustopher Jones, Skimbleshanks, Gus The Theatre Cat, and eventually Grizzabella) AND are always nominated by another cat. Not themself, unlike the movie where they all seem to nominate themselves.

Jenny-Any-Dots went from a doting grandmother figure who's celebrated for her selfless volunteering and tireless work into a conceited, vain younger cat who is obsessed with fame.

It's an incredibly strange dichotomy. I don't doubt some of it isn't the result of the uh people playing the characters honestly. I do think some of them did the best they could! I don't really blame Jason Derulo, for example, for Tugger. And honestly, Tugger was probably closest to his stage version (while being a trouble maker, he's shown to show Deuteronomy an immense amount of respect)

Speaking of Tugger! This will bring us to one of the biggest grievances with the movie and that is how they handled Mr Mistoffelees.

So... Ugh. So. We have Victoria as the pov character, which imo is like whatever in the grand scheme of things, and then we have Misto who they have decided will be get live interest cuz... Of course. Misto is shown throughout the musical to be awkward, unsure of himself and well. Really, kinda incompetent. Which is Wild cuz in the stage show he might be aloof but he's fairly confident in his powers.

So, Old Deuts gets kidnapped. In the stage show Tugger is the one to bring Misto forward! It's really quite sweet, imo, and I'm showing myself as a Tuggoffelees shipper here, but again Tugger is previously shown to be pretty conceited but then here he is boosting and hyping up Misto to bring Deuteronomy back. My friends and I have lovingly dubbed this the boyfriend hype song.

SOMEHOW. The movie manages to make this, easily, the MOST BORING number in the whole thing. Which, again, WILD. Misto awkwardly stumbles through his whole song, which again is... Boasting of his supreme magical powers which movie Misto clearly. Does not have or believe to have. The song, to me, feels super awkward and unnecessarily drawn out in the movie which sucks cuz it's one of my favourites in the show.

The declawing (heh) of Mr Mistoffelees actually reminds me strongly of how they changed Gaston in the live action Beauty and the Beast movie. He's gone from a beloved figure in the animated movie to someone so disliked in the town that Le Fou has to pay people off to say nice things about him. It's just. Wild character choices were made!!

Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat is probably my favourite in movie non ensemble number. It feels the most... Genuine? Compared to the other nomination songs.

Other problems include but are not limited to:

The inconsistent size scale of the CATS which throws me off constantly.

The weirdly overt sexual overtones added to MANY of the songs (Jenny and Bustopher being the worst)

This is just a personal gripe and opinion but I don't like that they used the UK version of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. The American version is both better known and tbh way more fun. Teazer's giggle? Adds ten years to my life every time.

Victoria's added solo song, Beautiful Ghosts, while I like the song as a song it doesn't fit the style of message of the musical. In the movie she's singing directly to Grizzabella who's being an outcast for years that she should be grateful she even has memories of being part of the tribe?? What?? But I know they had to add an original song to be able to be nominated for awards in like the Grammys n shit (which is why all musical movies will have an original song, fun fact!!) kinda funny they went to the effort though considering........... I don't think anyone could have genuinely believed CATS 2019 was gonna win anything but golden rhaspberries.

Movie Mr Mistoffelees has made repeated appearances as my sleep paralysis demon

The various cut characters, shout outs to Jemima, Demeter and Jellylorum especially

Bombalurina being a henchman to Macavity rubs me the wrong way

God I've written... So much. You probably get it by now haha. Like I said at the beginning, I try to go into any adaptation with an open mind but... Let's be honest, this movie wasn't marketed to people who are fans of the musical.

It was marketed, and made, to make money. And they choose to do that through, I think, intentionally making the worst possible version ever. Bad press is still press and the more outrageous people said the movie was the more people wanted to go see exactly what kind of train wreck it was.

Which is a disservice to the stage show, honestly, and all the people who've worked on it over the years.

But what can we do, right?

And besides all that, I do... Still own the movie version and I do still rewatch it on occasion. It is entertaining even if it's in a train wreck kind of way. I usually end up watching the 1998 version, then 2019 and then various tour runs that are on YouTube. (I highly recommend the 2016 tour, it's very good)

So in conclusion. It's fun (?) to watch. I enjoy picking things apart and doing analysis (if you couldn't tell!) so like... I don't hate it?

It did what it set out to do, I guess, and I can't fault it for that but. It's not a fair metre with which to judge the stage show imo. But I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, haha.

Jazz hands. I'm more than happy to elaborate or just chat about CATS if anyone wants! I grew up listening to the Broadway CD since I was a toddler so it's been! A very long standing obsession haha. Probably the only other thing on par with CATS is my obsession with Jurassic Park which I've also been a fan of since I was 3 (but that's a whole story in and of itself)

Fanart for @nekomortiz! Because I really love her artstyle & her LMK OC Táohuā so much! This fanart is very much inspired by these two comics (1) (2) alongside what was said on her ref sheet

I just made few headcanons while drawing this which I hope they won't mind!

Táohuā likes pandas & has a panda-designed phone (just like how Mei has a dragon-designed one) although she does own a Monkey King-designed one with a matching charm but definitely stashed it away on her room due to denial X"D

Táohuā likes casually shopping by herself when she's on a day-off or have some free-time from her CEO duties alongside that I kinda see her as a bubble tea person somehow (she reminds me of honeydew bubble tea due to it's sweetness so I drew her having that drink)

She would always check in on MK ever since she discovered the fact he became Monkey King's successor (I read the semi-angst comic to know how much this big sis worries about her lil bro), so in this fanart I kinda drew her calling him up after seeing another news about him in those holographic billboard projections they have on the show just to see if he's doing well after said battle.

But yeah! I really look forward to drawing more fanart of Táohuā! Possibly even making them interact with one of my OCs that I have never posted on the internet because I am shy and a bit concious! And I hope you would like this fanart KC your artworks have really made me smile and laugh multiple times! 🥺💞💕💘💓💖

Akdhflf. That bonus page gives off such a specific vibe XD. I can almost picture Bad poking Skeppy with a long stick like "Hey, you dead?".

On another note, the way you blend your colours is so satisfying. It gives off an almost chalky kind of vibe whilst still giving a smooth blended feel. So nice!!

Aaaah!!! I figured it out. Your colouring style kinda reminds me of tv static if it was smooth and soft. Full of lots of finer details and colours that make one main picture!! It's really relaxing to look at!!

Though, full disclosure: in my IND posts I actually painted only the cow in the last comic (semi-successfully, tbh), the flowers in the first story post (cuz I like flowers and I got carried away), and the human faces. The rest of the drawings are flat color + shadows and reflexes + different gradients.

about my drawing process + an example under the cut!

The grainy watercolor look comes from the texture I use as an overlay – it’s literally the “watercolor texture” I found veeeery long ago :D I like it a lot, and use it almost on all of my drawings. It gives everything this purple-blue hue and the feeling of watercolor paper, so even the flat plains of color look more interesting and deep.

Here’s the example:

Usually drawing takes me a long time, and I have a lot of ideas, so to not drown in everything, I always look for the ways to make the prosses faster, while still making it all look interesting and nice.

I play around with textures and overlays a lot (especially for the fabrics/backgrounds) but in the latest drawings I stuck with my minimal requirement – that one texture for the whole drawing. It does save time, but the distinct stile/consistent color palette for the story is also a bonus :D

Aaaanyways, I wanna put on my comic-art-nerd hat and talk about panel-to-panel action in that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow preview because yes, I have been staring at it for days, and yes, I will continue to do so until it is released next month! XD

LET’S GO:

I apologize in advance for the funky formatting, there’s an art to tumblr text posts and I...have not mastered it. XD

It’ll go image, then analysis.

Also, just to be clear: I’m not doing this so much to be like, ‘WOW THIS IS GROUNDBREAKING, STUNNING, NEVER-BEEN-DONE!’ In fact, many comics do the things I’m gonna highlight/geek out over! Rather, it’s more about, like. Appreciating the construction of the pages, panels, etc.

Okay, so! Page 1, the SPLASH PAGE

Okay, so, admittedly, I don’t have a ton to say about this opening image, largely because it is one single illustration as opposed to a series of panels. But even then! It quickly establishes that we’re not on earth--the foliage, rock formations, and GIANT WOOLY FRIEND(?) give that away. Also! Said rock formations and wooly friend’s horns frame our new character RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PAGE, letting you know that even though she is tiny, she is important. And, I will just say, I love the dust effects on the ground. The repeated semi-circle shapes evoke the feeling of rhythmic, galloping hoof beats, even without actual movement or sound. Lovely.

And now, PAGE 2!

So, I’ve highlighted panel 3, but before I get there! Panels 1 & 2 do such a nice job of giving us an idea as to the actual, physical size of these two characters, as well as the power dynamic at play. This random dude takes up the WHOLE DANG PANEL with his bulging muscles and is framed in an up-shot; in panel 2, Ruthye is not only shown from above--we’re literally looking down at her--she is also relegated to the bottom half of the panel. Additionally, it’s a great way to show the action of her turning to pull the sword from her belt, obscuring it from both our view and his, to bring out the ‘big reveal’ in the next panel.

Speaking of! Panel 3! Our establishing shot! We’re introduced to the full interior of this tavern. We see where everything is placed--walls, furniture, and perhaps most importantly, the various patrons!

Establishing shots are so important to have in visual media because they help us, the reader/viewer, to orient all of the various components within a sequence or scene.

It’s also helpful for the artists because then they can better maintain things like screen direction and continuity.

If we don’t have a shot like this, then subsequent action can become confusing to the point of distraction.

YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED how often this is neglected or forgotten in comics! Scenes will change abruptly and it’s like, ‘wait, wait, where are we?’

ADDITIONALLY, the establishing shot not only gives us basic spatial information, it ~sets the mood~ XD Setting! Atmosphere! Genre! It’s all here.

I mentioned this in my prior post, that the art gives off some intense fantasy vibes, what with the organic shapes, rough textures, and color palette.

Folks who’ve read advanced copies have described the book as a fantasy/western; that extends even to the series title design! The designer revealed that the western look of the text is deliberate.

So A+ to the art team for NAILING IT!

Okay, on to page 3!

Not a ton of notes on this one, but that’s only because the prior page has done such a solid job of laying out the space, as well as the relationship between these two characters WITH JUST WITH THE ART. (Okay, okay, the words help too. XD) Once more, we see this big brute tower over Ruthye, panel- to-panel; he’s always ‘large and in charge’ regardless of the angle. Even in that final panel! Ruthye is the largest element because she’s closer to us, but the guy is still positioned ‘above’ her, literally talking down to Ruthye from over his shoulder.

(And HMMMM. That unassuming stranger in the back there, underneath the lanterns that seem to act as an arrow pointing right at her...could she be...important?)

(Her tiny size would seem to imply that she isn’t...AND YET...)

PAGE 4!

MMMM them FRAMES within FRAMES!

Okay, but before I get into that, I do wanna briefly mention panel size and shape.

All of these pages (save for 1 and 7, which are full-page illustrations) pretty much stick to a very traditional panel structure. Each panel is completely enclosed, and there is zero variety in terms of shape. It’s all rectangles.

BUT. The size and orientation change--take, for instance, that ‘skinny’ horizontal panel up top, the way it perfectly suits the ‘shape’ of the elements/action being shown. It’s a close on Kara’s wrist/hand, reaching out for the sword in the guy’s belt.

I mention this because often, writers don’t dictate stuff like panel layout in a script. They will give the artist the number of panels, and what needs to be included in each one, but the actual, overall organization of the page? Totally up to the artist.

So! Really knowing what you want to highlight and convey is key, because you can use the panels’ size/shape/relation to other panels to ENHANCE those images, like that sword grabbing up top!

AND! Another thing I love about that panel in particular is the way that Kara’s hand and the sword make a tiny frame for Ruthye! Who is, again, VERY TINY!

I keep mentioning the size thing because it’s a nice bit of economical visual storytelling; the child character is going to be smaller than the adult characters anyway, but by calling attention to it repeatedly, we as the viewer are constantly reminded that this kid is small! She needs help! She needs to be protected! Which is like, the whole premise of the inciting incident. XD Good stuff!

(Also more dot eyes in comics that aren’t humor comics, please.)

There’s another frame down in panel 3 as well! Evely uses this device several times throughout this sequence; it’s such a great use of the multiple swords in the scene, AND shows that she can really pack all of the characters in there without cutting any of them off/obscuring them behind various objects.

And like, NO TANGENTS, which takes some serious skillz.

ESPECIALLY when you consider all that beautiful linework. LOOK AT THEM INKS.

...In particular, look at them inks in panel 5! The shading on the booth is done in such a manner that the ‘grain’ of the ink defines the perspective. We’re looking down at Kara, from above. This is a helpful little bit of orientation, as there’s not a ton of room around Kara to have any other perspective lines to help sell the angle.

ALSO, NOTE THE POSITION OF MR. BRUTE IN PANEL 4, AND THEN KARA’S EYELINE IN PANEL 5. It will be important in...

PAGE 5!

Allow me to explain:

In panel four on page 4, we see the guy reach for his sword, his body language revealing that he’s intent on moving towards Kara.

In panel 5 on the same page, we get that lovely down shot of Kara looking right up at us, the viewer. But also, the implication is that she’s ACTUALLY looking at Tough Guy, because in the next page, we see that he’s positioned himself right above her to swing that sword down!

(My apologies for the poor attempts at drawn annotations.)

There’s no action lines cluttering up the beautiful art; Not-Conan’s hair, rather, acts as the action line/guiding ‘arc’ so that we can better follow the movement.

Kara, likewise, doesn’t have any action lines on her, but her posture and hair act as visual cues to tell us that she slides over in the booth, out of the way of the sword.

In particular, the way her right shoulder/arm draws closer to her body, and the way her left hand comes up to offset the way she’s now positioned, really sells the ‘slide’.

More beautiful indicators of movement in panel 2; the hair, the action line on the sword, the torn fabric of Kara’s shirt.

Panel 3 brings more FRAMES WITHIN FRAMES! And, actually, as I’m looking at it? I think it could be argued that we actually have a FRAME within a FRAME within a FRAME!

First frame: Panel border, natch.

Second frame: Goofus’ sword, arm, and face frame Kara.

Third frame: Kara’s arm and sword work with Goofus’ head again to frame tiny Krypto.

LAYERS.

And now, a note about colors!

I said before that I love the palette at play. The earthy tones give the entire setting an organic feel--this is not a high-tech locale! We’re dealing with natural materials here.

BUT THEN THOSE BLUES!

Not only do we get that nice split complementary thing happening with the yellow, but it also signals the blue of Kara’s costume, a little hint of which is revealed in the final page.

And, like. It’s night time. XD

(I just gotta say, love the cold blue outside the window next to Kara’s table, contrasted with the warm yellow of the interior. Even though this is a bar, there’s still that element of like. Coziness.)

Also! Even though the overall palette is heavy on the yellows, Kara’s hair is more saturated and leans towards a warmer yellow, while the rest of the yellows in the scene are cooler. Thus! We have CONTRAST! Our eyes are drawn right to her.

And I know--I KNOW--that SG comics twitter already hates King because Kara’s DRINKING and personally I want more of the story/context before I pass any judgement but I must admit, the shapes? In panel 5? With Kara drinking in the foreground?

I kinda love it.

Also mmmm-MMMM, more of them SOFT BLUES.

Okay. PAGE 6!

Now THIS PAGE is what inspired this whole endeavor.

Because, okay. If I’ve not made it clear by now: I read a lot of comics.

And I generally enjoy all of the comics I read!

But, what I’ve found lately, is that if I don’t enjoy a comic, it’s because I, as a reader, find myself confused by the art.

Confused as in, the art is hard to follow.

That can be because the color design/ink work doesn’t have enough contrast, or the composition is muddled, but most frequently?

It’s poor panel-to-panel action.

When there’s no flow/connection between what’s happening in one panel vs. another, suddenly it’s on you, as the reader, to do a lot more of the work as you go through the scene. And sometimes! We don’t even have enough visual information to DO that work!

So when I read this, I was like, ‘ah, thank you, an easy flow of action for my brain to appreciate.’ XD

AND SO. Panel 1! Same stuff we’ve been seeing! The ink work, hair, clothing details, etc. all work to show us which direction each character is moving. Kara’s arm and jacket all point to her slamming that mug in the dude’s face; dude’s sword serves as a GIANT ARROW illustrating the path of his stab.

Not much to say on panels 2 and 3 other than: FACIAL EXPRESSIONS! And also, HAIR!!!

PANEL FOOOOUR!!!!

Love. This. Panel.

Again, I really love that there are no action lines slapped on top of this gorgeous art, all of the movement is conveyed in the inks, body language, clothes, and so on.

Like. There’s a conscious decision, here, to not have Kara’s hair obscuring the dude’s torso, and that’s good! Because his belt/uhh...kilt? Skirt? Is showing us the speed and direction of his jab; if Kara’s hair were in the way, it would break up the flow.

BUT THEN HOW TO SHOW THAT KARA’S DIPPING FORWARD???

Note the ties on her cuff, and the inks on her jacket!

There’s nothing special happening with Krypto, BTW. I just circled him because he’s a Good Boy who deserves to be noticed.

Panel 5, more of the same, the inks telling us how these characters are moving through space. ALSO, the length of the lines conveys speed without needing to add something distracting/obscure the art with a ‘blur’ effect.

Final panel! I. LOVE. THIS.

Particularly the movement in Kara’s hair, just. Beautiful shape language.

But in addition! You’ve got that LOVELY line of action in Kara’s spine as she flips him over, the sword likewise curved in the direction of the throw.

And of course, the dude is crumpling in the appropriate direction, bent in the middle as he collides with the table to--quite literally--complete the circle.

Also, just. The characterization here, is PHENOMENAL.

People (read: irate fans on twitter) have expressed concern (read: complained) about Kara having a sword. Some have even gone so far as to suggest that Kara’s basically a murderer now, because she’s using a weapon.

Never mind the fact that in an episode of JLU, Supergirl used both a sword AND a gun to defend herself while in Skartaris because she had no powers.

Except we see here that Kara DOESN’T USE THE SWORD to take the guy out, she uses his own force against him. She only uses the swords in the FINAL PAGE in a type of ‘yield’ fashion.

(This particular ‘fight’ sequence reminded me of Brainy’s fighting style in the show so of course that added to my overall enjoyment.)

Like, Kara’s got no powers here, she very well could have used the sword to defend herself, and would...kinda be justified.

But she didn’t!

Like. Even drunk and therefore out of it, Kara 1.) Steps in to help that kid and 2.) doesn’t use superpowered lethal force on the guy. (I mean, she can’t use her super powers anyway, what with the red sun, but you get the idea.)

And like, the flourish there, of the arms, the way the jacket swirls around her, like a gymnast sticking the landing, GAAAAAHHHH I just love it. It’s great.

Okay, FINAL PAGE, #7:

I mean. What more can I say? EVELY AND LOPES, MAN.

Just some top notch art.

(Also get it guys, it’s a LITERAL shirt rip! XD)

(And look! There’s that tiny bit of blue!)

But anyways, if you’ve made it this far, I applaud you, and thank you for indulging my desire to just. Geek out over one of my favorite comic artists drawing one of my favorite comic characters.

And just to like, reiterate, I’m not suggesting that this comic is THE BEST EVER or that it’s going to redefine the medium, or anything. XD Everything I’ve mentioned here is...pretty basic storytelling mechanics. Watch any movie, and you’ll see all this same stuff at work.

RATHER, this whole post is more about...admiring two artists who clearly know what they’re doing.

And they’re doing it so well! :D

TL;DR: I’m so excited that the Supergirl book has Evely and Lopes, guys. So. Excited.

17 "What was your first muse?"

I guess other than warrior cats and one other oc that werent necessarily mused, it'd be Dipper Pines (regular and most of his aus). I ended up really deep in the Gravity Falls Amino and I ended up in many of the rps defaulting to him for other friends and rpers til I became known for it to an extent gjfjdk. I'll be honest I have no clue what this means. :v If its about writing a ship with someone and their muse, it mostly depends on chemestty and if I know the mun at least a little and if its fun to write. (Ex, I haven't written any real Monix even tho its cute despite having Fox talk to a few Monos here and discord, but have written thinlady with @/gecsha and already otp'd it. I also liked Sevix but wanted SK to want nothing to do with Six in even a friendly regard, but me and @/raincoatnightmare became friends when we were writing and it was funny and cute plus added further character into SK that I like (also now lordlady supremacy ty ty). Or in another fandom, the only character I've written with a canon relationship (or semi-canon? ig its vague?) was Hero from Omori and even then it seems weird to jump into a ship with someone I havent spoken to so it would probably be more prominent with an rper I've talked to before even if its still there with strangers)

Tbh Ive (embarrassedly and probably poorly) written it with one other person before in a certain circumstance I don't wanna get into here that ended not-so-well but I'm too nervous to write that kinda thing with others unless we were really comfortable writing that in private. It would always have to be shipping and he's only really shipped with one muse and you already admitted to asking this so I hope youre happy embarrassing me now hfksfkjfkd (also off like you said only adults like SL)

It never starts that way and yet so often ends up like that fhsksl. For SL he's already in a cute poly ship in a verse so I'll say yes to that. Lady Fox hasn't really been written into anything at all yet and I haven't even considered any ship even my beloved thinlady for her so we'll see gjjdls. For puppy ships with the kids again idk

29 "What are your thoughts on your muses' canon?"

Sweats in divergent characters Well Six is really cool and honestly a fun character to watch go through things, I really like her and her clever survival skills even if she's not the most kind in some situations cough cough. I could write a whole essay on why I love her little differences between the other characters in idle animations, cutscene reactions, and her ai actions in LN2. And seeing her in both comic series + those LN2 cutscenes/ai, I like how despite it all its obvious just still just a kid who also enjoys time with others.

RK is honestly my favorite of the protags, little dude is hard (to the) core. I still hate the canon ending 💔 /hj. His specific idle animations we get to see are also interesting in the fact thet theyre a little different from Six's (the only 2 kids at the time). Seeing his interactions with the Nomes (Hideaway), Six (cancelled comic), and reaction to the Flashlight Girl (Depths), it's also neat to see his little personality shine through. I got the feeling he was almost hesitant to escape but went through anyway, and saw it to the end (even if it was his own end) and with all the stepping on coal and glass, hitting every obstacle in the way and still standing up straight, and being resourceful of those around him, and I can respect him. Also he's the only one who's had a chapter I would be too scared to go through if I had the LN mindset so good on him 💔.

36. "Do you feel similar to your muse in any way?"

With Fox I really feel that casual but anxious at any time feeling, and already projected a lot of my anxieties about memory loss onto her. I also just like foxes. (Ive only spent money on game cosmetics 3 times and one was the LN1 fox mask, another was yesterday $10 on an almost useless fox plush on Sky: CotL fhdjsk but hey whats important is invisible to the eyes).

With SK I can feel the "listens to an echo chamber for emotions" sometimes, and holding onto things stubbornly. It's quite easy to write him as I don't like admitting certain things either and deny deny deny, but that makes SL a little harder to make him romance fbdksk.

With SL I do really feel that overprotectiveness and envy in some things, he might be waaay exaggerated ofc but it's there. Im also a big self blamer.

37 "Do you feel different from your muse in any way?"

With Fox I'm much more social, I do like hugs and physical touchs and talking even oversharing cough just look at this whole post whereas she'd very reserved and quiet about her feelings 99% of the time.

With SK I can't really find it in me to hold a grudge that well. I can think back and get annoyed that some teacher or other kid or family member did some bad thing to me in the past, or say "so-and-so hurt me yesterday", but I can't hold it as just hate for long and see it differently. There's very few people I'm having trouble forgiving and forgetting, and they'll never be allowed near my family if I can help it.

With SL I can't say I'm in a good position if I'm in charge. I can be a good right hand or lower ranking moniter/manager, but being the head is too much pressure and depressing. He seems to be doing just fine both on his own and with his wife and/or husband.

38 "What's the best inspiration for your muse?"

Mostly jokes and random ideas with my friends! Some of the best plots I've had personally were turning a romance/ship joke into angst for pain, or angst into romance as hurt/comfort. Ofc music also helps but this is the best!

hey,, how would u write the umbrella academy season three,,,

nonnie, i love you. get ready for the most long and involved answer i will ever give to a question, which will have to be updated to include links to posts where i elaborate on things because when i said i had thoughts i meant Thoughts.

let’s start with where we’re at (aka the end of season 2) and where we want to be (aka the goals of season 3):

i’m gonna admit one thing right out of the gate - my version of season 3 would be the final season of the umbrella academy. there are only three comics arcs to go off of and i am adapting hotel oblivion (kinda) for this, but where hotel oblivion left off on the sparrow academy cliffhanger of season 2, my season 3 is aiming to tie things up with a 2012-avengers-movie-esque post-credits scene.

(seriously, there will be a post credits scene of the hargreeves eating kebabs or something. they’re getting a happy ending if it kills me.)

anyway.

at the end of season two we have six siblings still in various states of trauma recovery, lila, the sparrow academy, and a no-longer-dead reggie to contend with. the commission has become a bit of a non-issue, but we (regrettably) need to bring it back to centre-stage for at least a little bit in order to sort out the whole ‘alternate universe’ mess. so that’s where we’re at.

as for where i want to Go:

i want the hargreeves to get a happy ending, which is difficult, because that means different things for all of them as individuals and yet another different thing for them as a group. but the breakdown individually:

luther becomes his own person, out from their father’s shadow.

diego lets go of a lot of his trauma and moves on from being a ‘hero’ to being a ‘helper’

allison gets her daughter back

klaus gets sober and learns how to healthily interact with people and also how to healthily not interact with people sometimes

five takes a fucking nap gets his family back, safe and sound, with enough time to really get to know them

vanya learns how to make actual human connections with people (her family) and gets a nice girlfriend because gay rights baby

ben’s too dead for a happy ending. sorry ben.

i want to ask the big old moral question of ‘is it okay for the hargreeves to decide the sparrows don’t get to exist because they want their timeline back?’

and i want to fuck around with some new superpowers, babey. (seriously, it’s fun.)

but how do we get there? let’s start with the obvious:

overall character arcs

luther needs to go through the ‘get back at dad’ phase/get over the fact that reggie never cared of them, to put it bluntly. and he needs to learn how to be his own person. how’s he gonna do this? with klaus’ help! and vanya’s and diego’s. between those three you get a semi-functioning human being that can teach luther how to behave himself.

luther’s gonna spend the majority of the season with klaus (because robert sheehan and tom hopper are The Dream Team), then a brief reprieve chilling with diego for Himbo Bonding Hours, then with klaus and vanya. his interactions with five and allison are going to be mostly limited to group scenes (sauf one with five) because i am Too Tired for an incest plot rn, and five will be spending the majority of the season with allison.

klaus is gonna relapse and overdose without ben there to (attempt to) stop him. i firmly believe that the biggest reason he managed to get sober for three years was because he was actually trying for once, but the reason he managed to stay sober was ben. having a literal angel on his shoulder telling the devil (addiction) to go fuck itself 24/7 wouldn’t exactly be a hindrance, now would it?

he overdoses in the comics, but he also never gets sober in the comics, so it would hold a lot more weight in the show. i do have Thoughts about this (i have more thoughts than i’d like to about klaus generally) but they’re pretty emotionally charged so someone drop a reminder in my ask box later if u wanna hear it and i’ll get to it when i have the energy to give it some proper eloquence.

diego gets something none of the other siblings do (much), which is a lot of interactions with members of the sparrow academy that aren’t ben. i want his arc to be focused on learning that he can help people without being a ‘hero’, because, ultimately, diego wants to help people. he’s introduced to us as a hero saving a family in season one, but we see his caring nature when he takes the time to reassure them and make sure they’re okay afterwards. we see it again in his interactions with lila. he doesn’t save her, he helps her, and that’s a really important distinction.

as a society, we (have) put far too much value in ‘heroes’ in media. people who swoop in and save the day from the terrible evil whatever-it-is that was hurting people. but the carers don’t get the same attention. they don’t get the same hype. we need people who will work consistently and continuously to deal with the root causes of problems in order to change things, and, for diego especially, i think that would be a healthy way for him to deal with his remaining trauma.

so he’s going to play mediator for the sparrow academy’s bullshit, essentially taking over as ‘number one’ from emo ben for an episode or two and realising that he can be helpful as more than btec batman.

allison is my hard-hitter for the season. she and five are the only two that actually want to get back to the original timeline with any sense of urgency. she has left behind her daughter and that has become her first priority this season. i want to get a lot deeper into the extent of her powers. especially in looking at their powers generally as something that they can take further and further while losing themselves to it more and more.

[at this point i looked back on a few notes, thought some more, and realised that there is No Fucking Way i could get all of this into one season. not even slightly.]

she’s going to spend most of the season with five because it’s the only way anything’s get done and because they’re my favs. they’re gonna have a lot of frank conversations while getting stuff done a la “god, why are people so much heavier when they’re dead?” including talking about claire because the interaction “you know her name?” / “i do, and i’d like to live long enough to meet her” makes me feel Feelings.

they’re gonna bounce off of each other really well and have some very sweet moments of helping each other out at the sacrifice of their own comfort. allison is going to purposefully ignore her desire to make five take better care of himself in favour of getting things done. five is going to actually do voluntary non-aggressive physical contact with a sibling(!) to comfort her during her third round of grieving claire. they’re also gonna do a lot of awkwardly deep conversations.

(five and allison are constantly trying to outparent each other, but in wildly different directions and if you understand what i mean by that then we are now best friends.)

i also want to include some sixties flashbacks involving raymond at some point but idk how/when withing the narrative.

five is going to take a fucking break this season! if it Kills me, i swear. he’s also going to open up more about the apocalypse and his time at the commission. specifically, him and allison are going to have some long talks about being ‘good’ people and what that means, materially, in their circumstances. they will eventually come to a Good-Place-esque conclusion that all they can do is keep doing good things and trying to be better.

and by break i mean Break! he’s not going to kill anyone (important) and he’s not getting in any fights with the sparrows. i am insanely tempted to produce a reverse of five (young in an old body? young but weirdly old? something agey and bizarre) for the express purpose of mirroring their narrative and giving him someone to sit off to the side and eat popcorn with during the Big Fights.

also, five is going to be the source of a lot of funny-on-the-surface comedy. he should have incredibly cursed eating habits and if i don’t see this geriatric teenager eat at least one random bug i’m rioting. he will survive season three on raw pasta and spiders because fuck you. (also coffee. duh.)

vanya is possibly the most complicated character in this season, because she has absolutely no idea what she wants from her life. her motivation isn’t going to be as cut and dry as everyone else’s. how do i plan on dealing with this? by giving her everything she wanted in season one. she gets to be a member of the team. she’s going to join the sparrow academy.

hence, she’s hogging all the emo ben bonding time. she’s going to get attached, which will play into more of the plot later in the season. she manages to get along with the sparrows, who are all at least a little impressed by her powers. she’s accepted (for the most part) without question and they are happy to have her.

then it all comes crashing down and she suddenly has to pick between two families: the one she wants and the one that wants her.

It was long since I wrote my Dalton bros headcanons, and it just so happens that lately I revisited The Daltons cartoon and realized certain thing that seems to be a semi-canon (at least for certain two Lucky Luke writers who suggest some things) and I personally consider it my headcanon by now.

So you may recall this speech from Lone Riders. When I’ve seen this post for the first time, it reminded me of this scene from The Man Who Shot Lucky Luke:

He is saying this about Bone brothers, but it’s hard not to wonder if he was also thinking about certain four bandits he encounters on a regular basis. Especially because Bonhomme’s comic seems to be set some time after the Dalton Cousins.

Now, the line from The Man Who Shot Lucky Luke may be just a line and not mean anything special; just like the speech Luke gives to Daltons was just a rouse to make them calm the fuck down, but it’s worth mentioning that in the official comics showcasing Luke’s childhood - Kid Lucky - he’s an orphan happily adopted by a bartender Aunt Martha. He has friends and, overall, a happy childhood, however, Kid Lucky is an only child, and sometimes only children wonder about how it would be like to have a sibling.

Fast forward to his adult life and Luke is constantly running after Dalton brothers, and actually got to know them over the years. In some ways he also learned to care for them (and their mother), more or less. So what if - while observing Daltons interacting with each other - Luke had moments to reflect on nature of brotherly love? Sure, on the first glance it seems that Joe is a horrible brother... and he really is... but there are moments when he cares about Jack, William and Averell. Also it’s farly normal for siblings to be assholes to one another (espeically big brothers to younger ones) and generally the eldest sibling is in charge of the younger brothers and sisters, because either fate or their parents assigned this role to them. Maybe when Luke looks at Daltons he sees an elder brother who tries to take care of his younger siblings; two brothers who consider said elder brother as soemone really cool and an authority; and an annoying little brother who pisses all three of them and yet is the apple of their mother’s eye.

And when Luke observes the interactions between Joe, William, Jack and Averell, maybe he wishes he’d have siblings too. And maybe he kinda, sorta, thinks of them as his brothers.

This is probably my favorite, because Thor is incredibly well-written, and the cultural/personal struggles he encounters are written fantastically. Towards the Storm by iwillavengeyou: Jane Foster is worthy. Jane Foster is the Mighty Thor. But was she always this way? This fic seeks to examine Jane’s path to picking up the mighty hammer Mjolnir, and her journey as a heroine who, underneath it all, is only human. Rec: One of the few fics I’ve been able to find and enjoy that deals with Jane’s place as Thor in the 616 universe. I like the story’s trajectory, but it has since been orphaned. We Have Joyed To Be Forlorn by Niobium: Jane Foster’s life carries on in the wake of the Convergence, complete with exciting new research prospects, a displaced and grieving alien, considerations on the functionality of magic, and massive shakeups in world espionage. Or, The continuing adventures of Jane Foster, from the end of Thor: The Dark World to just after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Rec: What it says on the tin. I highly recommend reading anything by this author. Both Jane and Thor are done justice to, beautifully. Lots of cutesy Fosterson that feels very real and not just like a fangirl threw up on a page. Fundamental Forces by nayanroo: In an attempt to rein in the son that remains to her after Thor’s banishment, Frigga arranges a marriage between two old friends in the hopes that they can work together to heal an eroded realm. On Earth, a prince searches for identity after his world is turned upside-down. And in the darkness, something stirs. Rec: mostly a Loki/Sif pairing story, but there is enough fosterson to give a rec. Even if it wasn’t, I’d still rec it somewhere else. One of the most well-thought out stories I’ve read (part of an amazing series, which contains gratuitous fosterson) with incredible characterizations. When the Stars Fall Up by Nyxelestia: Loki is not so foolish as to let his pride get in the way of his plans. And Thor learns there is a lot more to being a king than being brave. Rec: An amazing look at Thor and Jane post-Dark World building their relationship, as well as all the pitfalls and heartache that comes with that. This author really plunges their hands into the nitty gritty problems with Jane and Thor, their cultural differences, their age/lifespan difference, and so on, yet it is still clear how much they love each other and their determination to make it work. | Contains some smut, but nothing very explicit | 92.5k | Complete

Symbiosis: Part II by SteeleHoltingOn: Loki ascends the throne of Jotunheim. He might have been lonely, but for the little hitchhiker in his head. Thor and Jane have their hands full with their daughter, Val, and the demands of Asgard and the Nine Realms. Rec: A lot of Loki, but also copious amounts of married Fosterson. As someone who isn’t always Loki’s biggest fan, especially when it comes to fan portrayals, I can say that this one is very true to canon and is an incredibly interesting read, and is balanced well with Jane and Thor-ness. The political drama is done very well. The plot planning seems meticulous and is absolutely admirable. I still have the same praise for it as its predecessor. | Contains some smut | 41.4k | Complete

Terrestrial Constellations by NightOwl360: For Jane and Darcy bringing Thor back to Earth is only the beginning of the adventure. Relationships are never easy, the past is always just a step behind, and sometimes the people we know best have the biggest secrets. Rec: Great characterization of Jane and Thor, and fabulous buildup until they meet again. Packed with not just fluff, some inevitable angst, as well as an intriguing storyline. Only downside: I’m pretty sure it’s been abandoned, and on a hell of a cliff hanger. | 78k | In progress, possibly abandoned

The Poetic Edda (was almost entirely wrong) by PhoenixVictoria: In Which: Thor is from a warrior culture (and Jane Foster understands); Loki is badass (but also kind of a puppy); Thor grows a pair and fixes his mistakes (and is a good brother); Loki is a slut (and is a good brother when he has no knives); Darcy Lewis is The Geek Whisperer (which really turns Loki on); And the Odinsons have no idea how to act in front of the media (and wouldn’t care if they did.) Rec: Almost entirely for Thor. He is so well-written in this. Loki and Thor fixing the damage they’ve done, and Jane being a great person. I love this so far (it is a WIP). One and the Same Thing by MissChrisDaae: Jane Foster is born to the bloodline of the Alchemysts, and the first woman to be inducted into the order. After the murder of her mentor, Jane becomes the first Alchemyst to mix the study of alchemy with that of magic, trying to enhance the art and find a way to avenge him. This is seen as bastardizing the craft, and she is cast out of the order, still working her craft as she wanders the realm. Forbidden from using the title of Alchemyst, Jane instead calls herself Ástkona Óþekktur, a Mistress of the Unknown. On her travels, she picks up an apprentice in Darcy Lewis and the two women meet another very unusual pair: the crown prince, Thor, and his foster brother, Loki, on the run from Amora, the sorceress who murdered Thor’s father and usurped the throne, the same woman who killed Jane’s teacher. Finding common ground, the four agree to join forces in taking down the Enchantress. Even if Jane won’t admit it, she finds herself drawn to the older prince, and Thor seems to be returning her affections, much to the annoyance of Loki, who sees the Ástkona Óþekktur as an unneeded distraction from what matters. If they win the war, there may still be something left to lose. Rec: You can see by the description that this is way AU. Incredibly imaginative, with a good characterization of Jane. | 33k | Complete

The Salt Skin by hariboo: One day Sif walks to the edge of the Bifrost to see compelled to see where Loki had fallen. At the same time Jane is testing a way to open the Bifrost. By accident Sif falls to Earth, what happens after she never would have expected, and then she finds Loki. Post-film. Rec: I can’t believe I haven’t recced this yet. A long, Sif-centric fic that is respectful to fosterson is hard to find, but this one hits all my must haves. Jane and Thor are beautiful idiots, and the outside view of their relationship is great. Very well-written. Loki/Sif is also very prominently featured. | 44.4k | Complete

Off The Grid by Shawn30: As stated by Phil Coulson in 'Agents of Shield’ episode 1-15, "Thor is currently off the grid.” So the question is, where are Thor, Jane, Darcy, and Eric post 'The Dark World’? Rec: This person was one of my FAVORITE fic authors of all time because of their Star Wars fics, and then THEY WRITE A FOSTERSON STORY. I was over the damn moon. There’s a unique take of all the characters, and there’s promise of really great things coming from this story. This fic would be a wise investment. Lost in a World Full of Terrors by psychollama: Inspired by typhoidcandy - “After Darcy attempts to perform one of Loki’s spells, things go awry and she’s sent to another universe. In this medieval-like universe, Loki is King, Thor is banished and living in the forests, and Jane is an arrow wielding rebel. Can Darcy make it home before the real Loki finds out what she did? Or before medieval Loki captures her and either kills her or makes her his slave?” Rec: A different take on a medieval AU. The first and only chapter is very fosterson-centric, and sets up the action nicely. Jane and Thor are handled very well in the different context. Stop All The Clocks series by Della19: Rec: NOT fosterson centric. This series is, I think, the first thing I read on AO3, and I was blown away. This person has constructed a great world around Supersoldier!Peggy Carter, and I rec the whole series, as the world and the characters are all vibrant and well-rounded. The stories, while connected, can easily be read as standalones. The fosterson, when it’s a larger focus, is absolutely lovely. | 49k | In progress

Jane and Thor’s ups and downs as a couple are well written, and if you’re a sucker for married Fosterson, check this one out. | 79k | Complete

On the Outside by Simple.White.Lie: The King and Queen of Asgard are not prepared for the dish Fate has served for them. To be tossed out like a ship in the wind is more than their hearts can take. Their love is something to fight for.. Isn’t it? Rec: Sequel to For The Days Inbetween (recced above). Both stories feature a very strong Jane, which is a big plus. Again, while the writing isn’t always stellar, it is a worthwhile read. | 33k | Complete

Thor Pwns Walmart by charis2770: Jane and Thor have found a way to be together at last. It’s all she could have wished for, and then some. But it’s playing heck on her worldly possessions! Jane takes Thor shopping at Wal Mart so she can replace all the things which have been torn or broken during their reunion. And buy more pop tarts. This turns out to be an adventure. And hotter than you might think. Rec: Okay, holy high heavens this story is well done. The author does BDSM amazingly, and I recommend their other stories, too. Mind the warnings. Also, if BDSM isn’t your thing, I still recommend the bits in between the smut because it is hilarious and perfect. | 35k | Complete

Stealing Away by charis2770: This is what happens when the Black Widow puts herself in charge of planning a weekend getaway for four friends, three of whom happen to be Super Heroes, and one of whom has an unfortunate tendency to be a little hard on Midgardian buildings. Rec: a continuation of Thor Pwns Walmart, and also features a good deal of BDSM Clint/Natasha. This author remains a good example of how to properly write good BDSM. Mind the warnings. unsuprisingly, having had to deal with bullies, lewis does not like that shit even when its directed at someone else. in semi related news, any part of writing the pages set in school reminds me of being in school and honestly? hate that. younger me should have gone feral more. unfortunatly aside from smaking people with books a couple times for bothing me, and also the hocky stick incidents my reaction to confrontation was more flight/freeze.

anyway i was updating and customising a few things on this blog when i checked the mental health resources page i made and tumblr fucked it all up. like 4 out of 11 links worked the rest were borked. then i checked the links left and they were also fucked. i think tumblr just doesnt like links that lead away from tumblr? especially since i just copy paste the same list and i think that messes with it or something?

TGCF Not Liveblog

So I finished reading Tian Guan Ci Fu. I realize the last time I updated my liveblog I was in Book 3. Oops.

What happened is I tore through Book Four in like two long reading session, somewhat realizing that the need to write reaction posts was slowing me down, then I put it down for a while again and then I’ve been working on Book five for the last week. Last night I tried to go to bed but couldn’t sleep, so I decided to read some, hoping it was going to put me to sleep, but instead I stayed up WAY late (or rather EARLY) and finished it.

I don’t even know what to say. I enjoyed it, mostly. I feel, actually, kinda like I did the first time I finished reading MDZS, in that I really like the main characters and the romance and feel a little flat about everything else. Although with MDZS I was more impressed with the plot reveals (especially the golden core reveal and how that changed the whole story.)

My problems with TGCF are that I just never really connected to or liked the characters that weren’t Xie Lian and Hua Cheng. They are also sorta comic characters, characatures so to speak and so didn’t end up feeling very real to me. It’s ENTIRELY possible I will feel differently once I experience them through another medium, because that definitely happened with MDZS.

So a lot of the narrative I was left sorta...either confused, because I wasn’t entirely sure who anyone was or didn’t remember what had happened before. Or it was a lot of action, which I don’t really ever care for reading.

I really needed footnotes on this book, just to remind me who everyone was and when we last saw them. Like, there’s something I read last night that referenced a verbal exchange between Xie Lian and MU Qing and...I don’t have any idea what that was about. That was MONTHS ago that I read that. What did they say, dammit?

And just generally there’s something that seems to happen for me with MXTX novels and I don’t know if it’s her writing or the translation but I feel like it’s very flat and I don’t get very emotionally involved.

EXCEPT for the main characters. Because I ADORE Xie Lian and Hua Cheng. And OMG.

Before I cut to spoilers, I will say that I expected it to be much angsty-er. Like TGCF just has that reputation, maybe from everyone screaming around certain parts of Book 4 or that one part of Book 5 when it was being posted/TLed. But honestly...eh? It wasn’t that bad. Like, there’s a few very heavy scenes but mostly it’s very light, honestly. It’s really nothing to a lot of fanfic out there. So if that has kept you away, it really shouldn’t.

ANYWAY, so yeah, maybe I wasn’t as affected by all the terrible shit that happens to XL as others. I know the big angst scene is obviously him being stabbed by all the people in the Temple, but it was so...kinda weird that I didn’t really feel it. Now in a dramatized adaptation I might cry my eyes out. Fair. But on the page it was just kinda...yeah, ouch.

But on the other hand, the part that hit harder than I expected was the end where Hua Cheng fades away. I was semi-spoiled because I’ve seen art of that scene like a BUNCH, but didn’t know where it happened or the context. So it was actually very moving and sad, even though I trusted he WOULD be back.

I do really like their story, the kind of devoted love from a distance over a long time. Unconditional love forever. Unlike someone else I saw talking recently I don’t find it unrealistic or just a “fantasy” of what love is. I...well, the thing is that I HAVE someone who loves me like that and have for over 20 years. I don’t know why, honestly, and certainly our relationship hasn’t been perfect always. He’s not perfect and lord knows I’m not, but if there’s one thing in the world I have confidence in, it’s his love. So, yeah, I have Feelings about Hua Cheng in particular.

But not much else to say about this book atm. Very glad I read it and glad to be done with it because I have a lot of other stuff to read. Including the manhua to date which I’ve avoided for fear of spoilers. And super, super looking forward to the donghua.

Some Scott & Peter being roommates headcanons

A while I ago I stumbled upon a post or something which implied that Scott and Peter shared a room together after Apocalypse and I've thought that needed to be explored a tad. This almost turned into a fic whoa

Their first meeting after the whole Cairo and apocalypse crisis is less than stellar

When the mansion’s finally ready for students to move back in, Scott’s given his own room. Again, which pleases him. The company of other mutants doesn’t bother him, Jean, Kurt, Jubes even the newcomer Ororo, they’re all nice and great, but he prefers having a place he can call his own.

A day after that when he and Jean go for a walk she tells him she now shares a room with Jubilee and that it’s kinda cool she now has someone, so she’s not completely isolated, but she’s still afraid she’ll unintentionally hurt her in her sleep or something.

Scott playfully boasts that he still managed to keep his own room.

That doesn’t last long

That same afternoon there’s a knock on his door.

It’s the silver haired guy; the exact same one who saved almost everyone from the explosion.

At first he doesn’t say anything, just watches him coolly, leaning against the doorframe.

Scott’s a man of action “Yeah?” “Summers?” “That’s me.” In a millisecond the seriousness disappears from the guy’s face and all of a sudden he’s standing in the middle of Scott’s room, buzzing around and he reminds Scott of some kind of a bumblebee that took a dip in a jar of silver color.

The silver guy scans the room “Kinda boring but it’ll do.” He points at the tidy desk by the window “You’ll need to move that tho, I’m gonna have my bed there.” “I’m sorry, who are you?” Scott rebukes at the stranger wandering in his room like he owns the place “And what are you doing in my room?” “Peter Maximoff.” The guy suddenly appears in front of him, a strange glint in his eyes “and I think you mean, ‘our room’.” “What?!” “Oh, I’m guessing Charlie didn’t tell you? Oh, this is awkward.” “Told me what?” Peter smirks “We’re roomies from now on.” Something inside Scott promptly dies.

Scott goes to talk to Charles about it, who tells him that Peter, while no longer being a student, will be staying at the mansion and join their X-Men team. There’s a shortage of free rooms but Charles is sure that Scott doesn’t have a problem with giving half of his to Peter.

Scott, in fact, has a problem, but Charles doesn’t need to know that.

When he returns to their room, he notices Peter has already set up his stuff and oh hello, there’s even a bed there and a few video game arcades where his desk and sofa used to be.

At first Scott’s semi okay with it, because Peter seems like a good dude.

“So, Summers, I’ve noticed that you don’t talk much, huh? That’s OK; I talk enough for two people.” Scott mentally groans. This will not end well.

He’s right.

He soon finds out that Peter, fucking Peter, doesn’t sleep much or at all. He can go days without even a little nap and while Peter’s totally okay, Scott’s bags under his eyes have bags because the speedy asshole is just not quiet throughout the night. He’s either loudly munching on food, listening to music at top volume, playing videogames, tapping his foot impatiently against the floor, shuffling around….he’s. not. Still. At. All. Jean and others notice Scott’s exhausted appearance of course. “So, what’s like to bunk with Peter?” “I’m more likely to catch a unicorn than a good night’s sleep.” “That bad?” “I lost my peace, most of my room and my ability to sleep at night. What do you think?”

Jean suggests him to talk to Peter about this issue.

He takes her advice. Peter doesn’t really get it.

“Remember sleeping? Sleeping was nice.” Scott says to him when he comes back to their room ”Perhaps you should try it. When’s the last time you slept?” “When was the last time I slept? Well, let’s see…it’s a Thursday…so…” “Today’s Monday.” “Today’s a what?!” Oh boy.

Unfortunately, despite Scott’s best tries, It doesn’t go well at all. In fact, it all goes downhill from that point on.

A few days later Peter, high on energy, takes a good look at Scott, who’s barely standing on his own feet. “Jesus, what happened to you?” “You did.”

Another thing Scott soon learns about Peter. He was right. He. Never. Shuts. Up. Seriously. He’s always muttering about something, singing along to a song, talking to himself, chuckling while reading a comic book…Scott feels a volcano of anger inside him ready to erupt. “Do you ever shut up?” “Do you ever say anything besides asking me to shup up?” Peter shoots back “Oh, sorry, I forgot that you’re shy.” “I’m not shy, I just don’t like talking to you.”

It all goes to hell from then on.

Scott’s annoyed with Peter and Peter’s annoyed because Scott’s annoyed with him.

“I went from having an entire basement to myself to having to share a room with a fucking baby!” “I was here first!”

They both ask Charles to give each of them their own room.

Charles refuses.

One day Scott’s sugar drops and all of a sudden the currently abandoned box of twinkies on Peter’s bed look curiously inviting.

It was the last straw.

“You bastard!” “I’m not going to pick a fight with you.” “Well, too bad because I’m picking one with you. Square up, dipshit, let’s get rowdy!”

“Asshole.”

”Dickhead.”

They use duct tape to evenly split the room in half. Peter even took the door. “How the fuck am I supposed to go out now?!” “I left you the window, use that! Be happy I didn’t take that as well.” “How generous of you.” “You know it.” “Seriously, you’re the human equivalent of those lumps that form in rancid milk.” “Wow, what the fuck Summers!? Rude?” “Yeah. It’s supposed to be.”

The tension between them’s obvious and it comes to a point when Charles sits them down and asks them to at least pretend to stand each other for others’ sake.

They try but fail miserably. “You are a disgusting individual.” “I will not stand here and be lectured by a 12 year old.” “I’m 18.” “You’re literally a baby!”

“Hey you got an award in the mail.” “Really? Where’s it from?” “The National Council on Assholing. It says here you won Best Asshole of the year.” “...Why are you such an asshole? Do you like getting hit or something? Wait! Don’t answer that, I don’t wanna know.”

At one point even Raven asks Charles if putting the two of them together in the same room was a good idea. “They balance each other out. Trust me, Raven, they need this.

Turns out he’s right.

It takes a while but much, to everyone’s surprise, they mysteriously, somehow manage to work it out without killing each other in the process.

A few days later Scott’s studying for one of his exams and his pen dies. He realizes he left the rest of his pen stash in Jean’s room and isn’t feeling up to go get them. Peter nonchalantly gives him one of his own. True to his poor luck Scott breaks it. “Hey, um...I broke your pen. Sorry” “That’s okay – I stole it.” Peter doesn’t even look up from his comic book. Scott blinks. “...Why are you Like That?” “Look, I have superpowers. That’s not going to change. What else am I supposed to do with them, sit in our room and watch tv? Don’t judge me.” “...I’m not.” Peter finally looks up from his comic and takes in Scott’s disheveled appearance. “I take it studying isn’t going well?” A groan’s his only reply. “Dude chillax, you're more nervous over this stupid exam than when we were in Cairo. The fuck?” Scott sighs “If I have to choose between saving the world and passing my chemistry exam…the end of the world is bad and all, but McCoy is scary.” For the first time since moving in Peter laughs. Sincerely.

Scott fucks up then and accidentally hurts Peter’s feelings “You know, you kinda remind me of my brother.” “Should I take that as a compliment or an insult?” “Both.” Peter doesn’t take offense but just stares as Scott’s face crumbles. “Your brother?” “Alex.” Scott replies “You know, the one you left to die.” Scott doesn’t mean it literally, he knows Peter’s not responsible for Alex’s death, but his words cut the speedster like a knife. For the first time since he’s moved in, he’s quiet throughout the entire night. Scott doesn’t question it at first. He has an exam to study for.

Peter’s nowhere to be found in the morning. When he doesn’t show up for training, that’s when others take notice and become worried. Charles doesn’t seem to be though, but he’s sporting this sad smile and it’s not a good sign.

His disappearance bothers Scott more than it should because the room is suddenly too quiet, there’s no one to bother him. He keeps on waiting for a certain silver blur to come by but he. just. doesn’t.

During one of their many daily strolls around the mansion, Jean brings the topic of Peter up and asks him if perhaps he said something or done something that might suggest his whereabouts.

Initially, Scott shakes with head.

Until he finally realizes.

He feels like a dick.

Jean assures him he’ll probably return soon, but reprimands him anyway.

When it’s evening and Peter still doesn’t return Scott considers going to Charles, but just as he’s about to do it, there’s a knock on the door.

It’s Peter.

Scott is relieved and immediately starts apologizing. Peter tells him that it’s okay.

Peter actually sits down and apologizes for not arriving in time to save Alex.

It turns out Peter’s feeling extremely guilty over what happened to Scott’s brother.

Scott tells him that he doesn’t blame him and that there was nothing he could’ve done.

It takes a while for both of them to calm down after this emotional talk. Peter honestly appreciates Scott’s words.

“You’re not so bad Summers. You know, for a baby.” “You’re not so bad yourself Maximoff. For a grandpa.” “Oh, the hair, I get it.”

“So I take it you’ve missed me.” “Everyone’s been wondering where you were. They knew that if I’d killed you, I’d keep the body for display.” Peter snorts “As if you could catch me.”

“Sorry for fucking off by the way. I tend to do that sometimes.” “It’s okay. It was my fault anyway. Just...don’t do it again, okay.” “Can’t promise, but mmkay.”

Seeing Peter and Scott actually getting along for the first time since they became the X-Men is shocking. Jean’s a telepath so she kinda already knows why they’re suddenly on good terms. Kurt and Ororo are clueless. “Since when are you two buddies?” “We’re kindred spirits” “By which he means that we utterly disgust each other.” “Yeah.” “But you’re always bickering and fighting with him.” “Yes, and I would also die for him. Try to keep up, blueberry.”

They’re best buddies.

Peter soon figures out that Scott as this not so secret crush on Jean. He doesn’t bring it up though, waits for Scott to slip up or admit it out loud.

He does.

“Can you keep a secret?” “Sure, but why would I?” “I’ll ignore that.” “So, what is it?” “I...kind of like Jean.” “Dude, I thought you said it was a secret.” “Is it that obvious?” “You need to stop making googly-eyes at her all the time. It’s weird and frankly, kind of creepy.”

“Scott I need to tell you something as well.” “Go ahead.” “...Magneto is my father.” Peter blurts out “Just thought you should know.” Scott stares at first and then burst into a laugh, thinking it’s another joke. He stops when he sees Peter’s serious expression. “You’re not kidding.” “I’m definitely not kidding.” “...You know that explains so much about you.”

Peter is slightly scared Scott will turn on him again because Erik was kind of involved in Alex’s death.

Scott tells him again that Alex’s death was an unfortunate accident and he doesn’t blame either Magneto or Ororo for what happened. He also assures him that he doesn’t care who his father is.

Peter’s relieved.

“Also my nameisnotPeteritsactuallyPietro” “...What?”

“Let’s just say I’m not a ‘you must reach friendship level 5 to unlock my tragic backstory’ person. I’m more like ‘you have to reach friendship level 5 to know my real name’ type of a person.”

He prefers to be called Peter though so he asks Scott to keep that to himself.

Scott promises to keep it a secret.

Peter promises to help him win Jean’s heart.

Turns out he’s the best wingman Scott could ever have.

When they’re hanging out together, Peter mentions to Kurt that Scott has a crush on Jean and doesn’t know what to do. Kurt, ever the romantic, suggests him to write her a letter.

“Blueberry, no, JUST NO. Bad idea. He has the artistic ability of a short-sighted mongoose.” “Thanks Maximoff.”

Peter comes up with his own idea.

“What do you mean you hit on Jean for me, what the fuck Peter!?” “SOMEONE HAD TO DO IT SCOTT!”

Peter succeeds and Scott gets the girl.

“Ok, Pete, I’m going to have Jean over tomorrow night, so if you don’t mind-” Scott begins one day, weeks after their first date. “I don’t.” Peter winks “Ohhh I see where this is going.” “Don’t tell anyone, you know Xavier has rules and shit.” “I won’t IF you don’t tell him about my hidden stash of stolen sweets and the arcades.” “It’s a deal.”

“Just leave my bed alone. It’s a sacred place.”

Peter spends the night in Kurt’s room who finally starts to understand why Scott suffered from lack of sleep in their early days.

“Why exactly are you here?” “You’re too pure for this, blueberry.”

In the morning Peter decides he’s done enough waiting and barges in their room, waking up both Scott and Jean.

“Don’t you knock!?” “Considering it’s my room as well...generally, no.”

“I brought you two breakfast by the way.” “I, um…thanks.”Jean seemed to genuinely appreciate his gesture. “It’s no trouble at all! Well, as long as you don’t make noises swallowing that the same way you did last night.” “PETER!” “dO YOU EVEN HAVE AN IDEA HOW THIN THE WALLS ARE HERE!?”

He runs off to Ororo before Scott could test his powers on him. “Hey ‘Ro, what do you think I should do if somebody told me they were going to peel me like a potato.” “And by somebody, I meant Scott.” “Honestly Peter, I thought I knew a lot of threatening words, but that one’s new.”

Peter continues teasing Scott for the rest of the day. Scott thinks he’s a menace. “Sometimes I want to tell you to go find someone to date already so you’ll stop pestering me, but then I remember what an inexpressibly annoying person you are and how no one deserves to deal with you.” “Thanks Scott, love you too, buddy.” “You know what, maybe you should find someone.” “I would rather be tied up, covered in honey, and left near a hill full of red ants. Naked.”

Scott decides to return the favor and find Peter a date.

Turns out Peter does have a tiny crush on Ororo. “No, I don’t. The only crush I have is the crushing weight of my existence.” “But it’s a perfect match! You’re single and she has low standards!” “Is that supposed to be an insult, you unimaginative dishrag?!”

Peter’s known for staying up late, disrespecting the few sets of rules Charles has given to them. He hates the confined feeling of the mansion and seeks the comfort of the outside world all the time. Thus, he always comes back sometime past school curfew. Usually, no one but Scott notices, but even he has come to his breaking point.Plus he’s still mad at him for the stuff with Jean. So one day, when Peter’s way past his curfew again, Scott absolutely refuses to open the door to their room. “Summers, it’s me, a shambling mockery of a mutant being. I know you’re awake. Open the door.” “Sorry, I can’t help you, we’re closed for the day.” “That’s very funny, Scott. I get it, you’re mad I stayed out past school curfew, but you’re not really going to make me sleep in the hallway, right?” He does.

Charles Xavier Is A Huge Dick: The Movie

or,

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Hey, if you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want to be spoiled, you probably should stop reading!

I watched the new X-Men movie. Not only I’m that annoying cinema-goer that sits behind you and mocks the movie audibly during the seance, oh no, I’m also that annoying cinema-goer that comes back home and makes a bitchy tumblr post about the movie.

But, guys, that was so bad.

First off: I’m convinced that upon reading the script, James MacAvoy and Sophie Turner instantly lost the will to act, because we’ve all certainly seen far better performances from both of them.

My other theory is that the director simply told them not to bother, because this was, as far as I can tell, a deliberate franchise-killer.

The scene-by-scene description of the train-wreck under the cut for the curious.

PROLOGUE

We open the movie with the scene where young Jean Grey and her parents are in car crash, because Jean Cannot Control Her Powers. The kid survives; the parents aren’t so lucky. This scene is generally inoffensive, if predictable.

From now on, young Jean Grey behaves like a kid-shaped robot. Someone please write her better dialogue.

Charles Xavier arrives at the hospital, confirms her parents are dead, somewhat unenthusiastically delivers some well-worn platitudes and whisks her away to his school.

Hey, mutant powers are like pens. Especially the ones you can’t control, because sometimes pens go on a rampage and stab people in the eyes, you know, unintentionally.

(No, seriously, they went with that metaphor.)

TITLES - BACK TO THE FUTURE - or 1992, I guess, one cheer for 90s nostalgia

In effort to remind us humans that as a species we did some cool things on our way to ruining the planet, we watch the launch of a space shuttle.

Suddenly Houston, we have a problem. A sentient solar flare or something is attacking the brave astronauts! Oh no! Who’re we gonna call?!

Charles Xavier!

Like literally, the Mr. President of US of A calls Charles Xavier, like Chuck, are you watching the TV rn?, and Xavier’s like, already giddy with anticipation, Why yes, Mr. President, I see you are in a spot of trouble, and Mr. President’s like, Sooo, Chuck, I literally HATE TO ASK, BUT... and Xavier’s like, practically bouncing with glee, BUT OF COURSE, X-MEN TO THE RESCUE!!!

So Chuck sends off his chicks. Nominally, the team is under Mystique’s command. There also Hank, and baby-faced Storm, and even more baby-faced Kurt Wagner, oh yeah JEAN, she’s there too bc PLOT, and Scott was along too. Did I forget anyone?

I forgot someone, didnt I?

OH YEAH, the Quicksilver was there too. Considering how cool he was in earlier movie(s?), it’s kinda sad that he’s largely inconsequential here and I forgot about his existence about halfway through.

Charles calls Houston on the Cerebro like a huge showoff he is, and the X-Men proceed to rescue the astronauts from weird-looking space cloud (which is of course the Phoenix Force, or whatever comics call it). There’s some cool looking scenes here where X-Men use their powers, but they’re just window dressing for the main plot:

Charles Xavier is being a huge dick, backseat driving this mission through Cerebro and not trusting Mystique’s judgement.

BTW, Mystique might be the only character in the movie who behaves like a sensible person, which is why she’s not there for very long.

Anyway the scene goes like this:

Mystique: we saved ALL BUT ONE astronaut! Coming back for that one guy is super risky and probably will only lead to more deaths! I’m cutting my loses like sensible field leader!

Prof X: OH NO YOU WON’T get back for that one guy or the whole mission is a failure!!!

Mystique: WTF??!! That’s crazy, we will get killed!

Prof X: But it’s better to throw away our lives than have less than 100% record on rescue mission, because if we give humans even slightest pretext, they will instantly revert back to hating us, see? The President will stop taking my calls, people will want to arrest us for property damage, and neutralize our powers and stick us in prison for mutants.

Mystique: ...seriously, why am I on your side again?!

Prof X: Just have Kurt take Jean to the shuttle and she’ll hold it intact while he looks for the guy! Raven, I want to remind you I can bitch at you telepathically anytime, anywhere, for the rest of your life!

Mystique: DAMN YOU FINE

So they do it. Kurt manages to rescue the guy, but not Jean. The shuttle blows to bits around her. We are supposed to be sad for 2 seconds there, but then the Phoenix Flare swallows her, she survives, X-Men return to Earth with the astronauts and are showered with praise from adoring masses who stand there with cutesy sings to welcome them upon landing. Whatever.

Jean has a conversation with Scott where they mack on each other and she reassures him She’s Never Been Better, Really, I Feel Great After That Traumatic Experience, and Scott is like, IDK but okay?? I guess??

And Hank checks her out too, and her power is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAND, but Jean’s like, chill, I feel greeeeeat, so Hank’s like, the only problem with this situation is that I need to design a better power-meter!! Ha ha!

Meanwhile, back to plot A, where Charles Xavier continues to be a huge dick. Mystique calls him out about his control freak thing, Charles responds by being a sanctimonious asshole because it’s not like he ever learns or grows as a person in these movies, you know, and Mystique basically throws her arms up and storms out, which is a good representation for audience reaction at that point. Her parting shot is one of like two good lines in the whole movie:

Mystique: And anyway, as far as I can see, the women saved the day again! Maybe you should think about renaming us X-Women!

The movie will shortly repay her for that, don’t worry.

Some other things happen. Creepy aliens looking for Phoenix Booster covertly invade Earth. Mystique goes to Hank and says, hey so Charles is being a huge dick and a total control freak. I’m kinda fed up with him, maybe it’s time to move out and start living our own life? To which Hank is like, IDK Raven do even have a life outside X-Men, and I don’t want to move out of my lab, and Mystique is like, ugh okay I’ll stay.

Jean gets upset at the party and pushes some people over in midst of Phoenix breakdown, which makes everyone panic. Charles notices that her power is now OVER 9000 and he can’t just go and fuck around in her mind anymore, so the logical solution is to use Cerebro to do that anyway.

It turns out that Phoenix thing not only amplified Jean’s power, it also dissolved mental blocks Charles put in her mind to hide a terrible truth from her: her father survived the car crash. In fact, with her powers, she can find her father right now! Jean, in midst of her generic emotional crisis, blows out of the school to do exactly that, because she feels alone and misunderstood and betrayed, man.

It turns out he willingly gave her up and I guess hates her because she caused the accident by putting her mother to sleep while driving. Jean is pretty upset and about to smite the whole neighbourhood, when the X-Men arrive.

This is how X-Men discreetly take care of their business: They suit up in their official uniforms and take their official super-advanced jet and land it on the street, so everyone around will know what’s up. The only thing they were missing while confronting Jean was the transparent with the word INTERVENTION.

Jean freaks out, X-Men try to fight her, they all cause maximum collateral damage possible, there’s police, Mystique tries to talk Jean down, Jean semi-accidentally kills Mystique by pushing her over and impaling her on some wooden debris.

It’s all very badly written and feels utterly cheap and is a total waste of character. Frankly, the scene made me angry and not much else. But since the whole movie revolves on the fact that everyone is an idiot, Mystique didn’t go there anyway, I guess.

Anyway, it furthers three things:

Plot A, Charles is reaching new heights of being a huge dick wherein he goes to sprout platitudes at Hank, who predictably doesn’t want to listen to him and lashes out, to which Charles reacts very maturely by being OFFENDED, because Raven was HIS sister, OBVIOUSLY he’s the MOST injured party here! (No, seriously, he pretty much says that).

Plot B, Hank needs to be a bigger idiot, to which we will come back in a moment.

Plot C, Jean Grey is now Public Enemy Number One and all people are back to hating humans! The President literally stopped taking Xavier’s calls, people want to arrest X-Men for property damage, neutralize their powers and stick them in prison for mutants.

Oh, and aliens are tracking Jean to get the Phoenix Power or whatever.

Jeans next move is to go visit Erik Lehnsherr, who is living like a hobo in Genosha with a handful of like-minded mutants. She wants to ask him for life advice, I guess, because when Charles Xavier is being a huge dick and hiding your memories of your childhood trauma from you without your consent, Magneto is the only alternative.

Too bad she wants advice on Not Killing People With My Powers When I’m Kinda Upset With Them. It’s unsurprising that Erik Lehnsherr, who spend his whole life Deliberately Killing People With His Powers Because He Was Very Upset With Them, can’t really relate.

This upsets Jean further, and she demonstrates that by attacking US soldiers who came to Genosha to arrest them and doing her best to kill them. Then she flies off to drink in a bar, where an alien picks her up, because it wants to show her the whole wide world or something.

Let’s come back to plot B for a moment, which is Hank being an idiot. Hank is very distraught and wants to kill Jean. So Hank goes to Magneto.

Hank: I want to kill Jean and I need your help with that.

Erik: Wait, what? Why?

Hank: She killed Mystique!

Erik, already frothing at the mouth: ...let me grab my I’m Being A Huge Idiot Helmet, Hank, and we can commence the business of killing.

So the aliens are pitching their “Let’s Re-Create The Earth In Your Image” campaign to Jean, which can be done only in a New York townhouse, specifically in a very special bedroom (...oh hey, I didn’t pick up on that creepy vibe until now!).

Jean is largely convinced, because in this movie characters just go back and forth as the plot demans.

So both Charles and Erik with their lackeys track down Jean, and have a huge fight in front of the above-mentioned townhouse, with lots and lots of collateral damage while they debate who is right. Before that, Erik has the second good line in the movie, which is used to rightfully call out Charles:

Erik: You’re always sorry and there’s always a speech. But no one wants to listen anymore.

Anyway, X-Men and the mutants beat up each other, Erik gets into the house and fails to kill Jean, then Charles gets in the house and tries to talk down Jean, which is followed by perhaps the most genuinely disquieting scene in the movie, in which Jean uses her telekinesis to destroy the wheelchair and force Charles to walk up the stairs.

They have an exchange that is supposed to be hopeful and heartwarming and so on, but by this point I’m fed up with this world movie.

Jean rejects the aliens’ campaign, so the alien head honcho attempts to suck out the Phoenix Dust out of her, and partially succeeds, but is interrupted midway and knocked out. All the mutants are arrested, put into special shackles restricting their powers and put on a train which is going straight to special prison for mutants.

Don’t worry, we’re in the last stretch.

Aliens need the rest of Phoenix Macguffin, so they ambush the train. There’s a big action scene, everyone is fighting the aliens, there are a few cool shots but beyond that I’m blanking. In the end Jean awakens, wipes the floor with the aliens, and when the alien head honcho tries to emotionally blackmail her into not eviscerating its hide, she grabs it, flies up into the sky and explodes them both.

Much sad. Very sacrifice. Such tears etc etc etc.

AN EPILOGUE, FINALLY

The situation returns to the status quo, except some people are dead.

The humans were about to lock up mutants in a prison like five minutes earlier, but nobody mentions that. Guess everyone forgot about that.

As far as I can tell, nobody except X-Men noticed that Earth was about to be invaded by aliens.

The school is renamed after Jean Grey.

Hank is the new headmaster. On his desk, a cheesy nostalgic photo of Mystique.

Charles, despite seemingly getting a pass on his dickishness on every turn in this narrative, is Worn Down By His Losses and retires. He occupies his time by brooding morosely at a cafe in unspecified European-looking country.

Erik finds him there. He is disproportionately cheery, like a man who after decades of pining finally is in a place where he can bully his longtime crush into a reluctant chess date, which he proceeds to do.

Camera pans up, to the sky. The sky gives us Phoenix Force-shaped wink.

Howard the Duck - Marvel Comics (Yeah, yeah, he’s still on here, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been trying to push him out there like some of the ones I currently play. He’s a guy with issues that many people can probably relate to, and is fun to irritate.)

Hokey Wolf - Hanna-Barbera (As my favorite HB character of all time, well, it’s not that out of the ball park that I’d like to rp as him on here. There aren’t that many that I think would know of Hokey though. Suave, calm, and sassy is his thing, and he’ll con you a new one better than Yogi Bear ever will!)

Roxas - Kingdom Hearts (”But he’s on here and I have done a thread or two with him!” Yeah, that’s true, but just recently have I kinda noticed some things about how I’d play Roxas might not mix well with other muns, mainly because of the constant preaching of “friends over family” that KH has, it kinda leads me away from thinking Roxas would consider anyone older than him like a parent and just friend zone them instantly. I might be overthinking it, but it’s just something I don’t see happening, and until I can find my confidence and hopefully a better method of playing Roxas, he’ll be in semi-hiatus for the time being.)

Sylvester Pussycat/Daffy Duck - Looney Tunes (I have done very little with either, though I can do something with Sylvester as of now, just Daffy needs some tweaking and icons for other verses. But when I have a good grip on both situations, they’ll be put out into the open for all to interact with for the other verses!)

Dracula Duck - DuckTales (As I have not been working on his icons like I should have, with very good reason for so too, I still have so many great ideas and AUs for him that I’ll share when I can get him completed.)

Gideon McDuck - Duckverse/Disney Comics (”But you play him too!” Ohhhhkay, Gid is a tough topic to deal with as even the mere mention of his name can serve up controversy in times when it is not need, like any time, but he is still a favorite of mine and technically still a good or possible character in DuckTales 2017. He can or doesn’t have to be related, I mean, look at Huge McDuck and what he did and he’s not even a real relative. What I want to do is continue giving the chief editor a chance to shine and be noticed for all of his straight-forward but considerate mannerisms, search for truth and justice, and all of that from the news side of the world.) @gideon-mcduck

John D. Rockerduck/Roller Dollar - Duckverse/Disney Comics (”Also him as well!” Look, John is more known and very well received to be the third richest duck in the world, and as he aims for first place in besting Scrooge, he’s also not that bad of a guy. Sure, he may have a devious, mischievous, and even cheating side to him, but get to know the guy well and he’ll treat you like family. Not his of course as there’s a lot of turmoil in his but better than any average person for sure. Not only that, but he has gone through some radical adventures, giving him versatility, and even has a supervillian persona, one akin to Magneto. Polaris [Marvel], Doctor Polaris [DC], and Cosmic Boy in some terms of powers. When he hits the stage, he makes sure his appearance is known! Until he’s forced to munch on another one of his bowler hats.) @john-d-rockerduck

Underdog/Shoeshine Boy - Terry Toons? (Being a big fan of some superheroes, and knowing that Underdog has become a rarity in that of the super hero fandom, I decided it might be nice to try and help bring him back! As overpowered as he is, of course he can get the good old nerfing rod, or not, however you want it! Mainly what seems to be cool would be the situations in which he saves the day that don’t always involve Polly Purebred, or just his daily life as a shoeshine boy?) @underhcro

Ralph Runner - Loonatics Unleashed (Boy, is this 50′s-60′s esque father of a roadrunner something! He’ll probably have you smacking your head in frustration from the very fast speak he talks. Ralph can slow down though, so that’s not much of a problem! Keeping up with him physically though is another thing, like for some reason, he still has a potbelly but can move at super sonic speeds? I guess not every speedster has a hyper fast metabolism? Either way, if you’re in the future sometime, you might find him at his business or somewhere in Acmetropolis, if it’s in the same time and universe!)

Snagglepuss - Hanna-Barbera (Ooooh, this guy. I have SO many ideas with him that they pale in comparison to Huck and Hokey, when just using my ideas and not the combined efforts of mine with others. A moment that explains how he went from being an antagonist and rival to being a good friend along with his fur change? Got it! An explanation for how he loses some of his daring and adventurous backbone? Already thought of! And the list goes on for this mountain lion! I may not have played him on Tumblr, but I have played him before, and I have hear I am really good from others.)

Bathound/Ace Wayne - DC Comics (A detective that likes to do his work more than anything, and does it best when alone? Oh yeah, that is a vigilante I can get behind! I still have yet to promote him more and such, but he is a good guy to antagonize since he does hate silliness and such when it comes to the mission. Though not as devoted to the mission as Bruce/Batman is, he can be at times and that is one of his best traits/worst flaws.)

José Carioca - Disney (As he is literally my most favorite Caballero, sorry Don and Pan, he does get a lot of love from me. With his questionable past of having what can be debated to be regular magic or black magic, coy and sly demeanor when on his con work, or just being the cool and levelheaded member until a party arises. Maybe it is because he reminds me too much of myself in some cases, but I do not know. He is still available for whoever wants for me to make a starter with him! I also have to continue the thread that has him in it.)

Morrigan Aensland - DarkStalkers (I question on how I should approach making her icons as she is well, look at her. Though she is a succubus and gets away with that because it goes back into the lore of succubi, I feel like some people would be uncomfortable with her around, which is normal. She is kinda one of those..... characters that I don’t want to type the acronym of. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to play her. She’s a good character that has an intriguing personality!)

Igor - Count Duckula (Ah yes, my first rp blog that I had when I decided to rp on Tumblr. It’s still up, and I’m still working on it! But for all that do not know, here’s a little thing about my writing; If it wasn’t for me rping as Igor, and also having knowledge of Alfred Pennyworth, I might not have been thinking about playing Duckworth as early as I did. I do love Duckworth still to about the same amount as Igor, which is a LOT, but they kinda are two sides of the same coin. Heck, they even wear almost similar attire except for their appearance and tastes in some things.) @butlerofthecount

Dante - Devil May Cry (I definitely need to work on this blog again, as DMC5 sparked my thrist for some good demon slaying threads. Hopefully the pizza hasn’t gotten cold or moldy by now, but if it has, one can always order a new one!) @merciless-style

Goofy Goof - Disney (It’s no joke! I may not have him on here, but then again, not all of my muses are on here. Some are exclusive to here, and others are exclusive to other places. While I’d love to present my take on the cherry and clumsy goof, I prefer to see everyone else’s interpretation on here! Goof Paradise is Nice, but I’m too impure for that life. XD)

Tidus - Final Fantasy X (I swear, I’m still making icons for him in the PS2 original Final Fantasy X because I’m sorry, that’s the only way I like Tidus’ face in the first and second games, Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia series are okay, but not the HD Remasters [in my opinion].) @caladbolgdreamknight
