So I don't really think that it's a secret that Boston has a significant Minotaur problem. It's a pretty common situation for older American cities on the East Coast- centuries of poorly-documented cowpath-style urban growth providing an ideal nesting ground, widespread electrification and plentiful steam tunnels that compensate for the loss of the temperate Mediterranean climate that they're used to. And all this on top of limited institutional knowledge of proper containment tactics at least up until the Greek diaspora started to really blow up in the 20th century. You only have to fuck up the safety checks on one cargo steamer coming in from the broad area of old Minoa and then basically any import controls you put in after that point are closing the barn door after the bulls are loose. So yeah, no secret, it's an issue.
I do think, though, that we've kind of let the specific narrative surrounding the issue get away from us in the usual fashion, the problem people picture when they hear "Minotaur" isn't anywhere close the to the problem as it exists on the ground. I mean people's minds immediately jump to the 1949 Boylston massacre, but let's be real, even though that was really politically useful for finally getting the exit fares on the T removed, that was still a black-swan event, right? Basically every mayor since, like, Hynes has lived in mortal terror of having to manage a repeat of something like that during the mass media era, let alone the smartphone era. So we've got these Theseus kill-teams with their titanium-composite ropes and souped-up cattle prods and bolt guns, we have these constant "track replacement" stoppages on the orange line, and it's fine. It's fine! There hasn't been a serious Minotaur thing within walking distance of a T stop since, like, 2006, which again you can mostly chalk up to the chaos surrounding the dig.
No, the actual danger zones, the silent killers are the exurbs, like West Roxbury, Roslindale, parts of Hyde Park. Relatively dense foliage, bad sightlines, far enough from the urban center that the response times are bad, foot traffic that's basically nonexistent for big parts of the workweek because everyone's either commuting or hunkered down working from home. And, of course, a steady stream of delivery drivers with no political ties to the area. Which is an important element, right? I mean it's kind of baked into the Minotaur's nature, that they have a very finely tuned instinctual awareness of the politics of their situation. Start snagging homeowners, there might be a ruckus. But Amazon does steady business everywhere, and Minotaurs are smart enough to cover their bases, to wait until after the drivers have dropped off your package or delivered your food. So yeah, watch yourself out there. One eye on the treeline at all times. And if you see an Amazon van left idling, get ready to run faster than the driver could.

Tony's surgeries in the cave: Part 3. Second Surgery
Why the second surgery was necessary: Part 1, Arrhythmia, Reactor, Part 2
What was done:
Removal of the electromagnet.
Sternectomy - partial removal of Tony's sternum.
Removal of some chest and abdominal muscles (some partially, some completely).
Removal of parts of at least 4 ribs on both sides together with parts of attached muscles.
Yinsen may or may not have removed the thymus.
Tony's heart was slightly shifted back in his chest cavity.
Implantation of pacemaker-ICD electrodes running from the bottom of the reactor housing to the heart (This could be done either directly through the chest cavity outside the heart, or through the subclavian vein into the heart).
Removal of parts of Tony's lungs/lungs moved to the sides.
Displacement of blood vessels in Tony's chest.
Displacement or removal of lymph nodes in the chest. In case of removal - replacement with an artificial system connected to the reactor housing.
Implantation of the titanium reactor housing, its attachment to the parts of the sternum that were not removed.
Connecting the housing to the ribs using rib clamps.
Attaching the reactor with the pacemaker to the housing.
Suturing muscles and tendons to the reactor using surgical/biological mesh.
Closing the wound with polyester cuff around the housing where it meets the skin.
Suturing the sternectomy incision.
How do we know this actually happened?
In addition to the reasons stated in Part 1:
After the first surgery, we don't see the reactor housing in Tony's chest. The electromagnet is bolted to the sternum and, unlike the reactor, cannot simply be temporarily removed from the chest.
Tumblr media
As you can see below, unlike the electromagnet, the reactor housing is complex, clean, made of titanium and designed specifically for the arc reactor.
Tumblr media
Remember about internal organs - you can't just make a hole and put anything in there, no matter how deep it is. You'll need to remove or displace something.
In the scenes below we can see a fresh sternectomy scar after the reactor was implanted. The scar looks different every time, and sometimes it disappears completely thanks to makeup artists. There is not a single scene with this scar before the reactor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I mentioned in The Cave timeline (March 1 - April 12), several weeks passed between the successive scenes: Tony finished working on the reactor and showed Yinsen the armor blueprint > the security camera scene and the backgammon scene.
The two weeks between the first surgery and Tony waking up would not have been enough time to recover from the trauma of the reactor implantation. Tony instantly jumps to his feet and is able to raise his arms above his head and hold a car battery - nope, that's absolutely unrealistic.
The Ten Rings would not allow them not to work, but we see them playing board games. Post-op recovery explains it.

Paint it Black! Making one of the first titanium airplanes was difficult .
Titanium was corrugated to make room for expansion when the titanium heated up at top speed of 2200+ mph. The skin panels were fastened to the underlying structure with oblong holes which would allow the skin to expand and contract without the fasteners causing buckling. And the skin over the wing was also corrugated to prevent warping during expansion, this is actually quite noticeable, you can see the sections that are corrugated quite clearly here in this artistic photo.
Titanium makes up 93% of the SR 71 structure. It’s strength to weight ratio, or specific strength, is better than Aluminium. Yet today very little titanium is used in everyday objects. Planes primarily use aluminum, not titanium.. why is it not used?
The development of the A-12 the Skunk Works, a small division of Lockheed discovered that making the blackbird out of titanium was going to be anything but easy
Titanium is expensive because its refinement process is a nightmare. To make Titanium, we start with a feedstock in the form of Titanium Dioxide, with this chemical formula. This oxide ore called rutile can be found in high concentrations in dark sandy soils.
Build the SR-71 the US needed to buy vast quantities of the mineral from the Soviets. To do this they purchased the material through ghost organizations to hide the final destination of the material. One of the companies that were made up was a company to make pizza ovens supposedly… the Russians believed this story!
Had the Soviets known what they were helping build, they would not have sold the material. However, the US likely could have just purchased the material from mines in Australia. This is a relatively common raw material and is primarily used as a white pigment for paints and is even found in sunscreen lotion as ultraviolet radiation blocking pigment.
The primary titanium alloy used in the SR-71 was thirteen percent vanadium, eleven percent chromium, and three percent aluminum. Both Chromium and Aluminium form thermally stable oxide layers on the outer skin of the metal. Which prevents oxygen from diffusing further into the metal and causing it to become more brittle.
Which raises the max operating temperature of the metal!
Vanadium acts as a stabilizer for a crystal structure referred to as the beta phase. This leads to a material with higher tensile strength and better formability. Through trial and error and problems that were solved by the geniuses that worked at the Skunk Works. They discovered that their cadmium plated tools were leaving trace amounts of cadmium on bolts, which would cause galvanic corrosion and cause the bolts to fail. This discovery led to all cadmium tools to be removed from the workshop.
This article just proves what we already know today when people work together and work hard to solve problems. New ground was broken with the formulation of titanium that led to the success of the SR 71 and the tremendous heat and strength that this magnificent airplane needed.
As Ben Rich head engineer and later, he replaced Kelly Johnson as the head skunk said in his book called the Skunk Works. ‘’I volunteered some unsolicited advice about how we could use a softer titanium that began to lose its strength at 550° to paint the airplane black
From my college things I remember that good heat absorber was also a good heat emitter it would actually radiate away more heat then it would absorb through thick friction. I calculated the black paint would lowered the wing temperature 35° by radiation think of how much easier it will be to build an airplane using softer titanium.
It was my father Butch Sheffield’s boss Ben Rich, who saved the Blackbird program time and money, with his idea of painting it black.

- Europa Chronicles 7 -
Hard to describe what it felt like walking out of the brief room after that funeral. If we were at full Terra gravity, the weight of the air woulda crushed us.
Didn't have too long to think on it though, suddenly a pitched screech filled the tunnels, as every one of us got a priority alert on our wrist communicators.
If I'm being honest, it took us all a bit to even realize what the damn thing meant. It was a code none of us had seen, to be honest, most of us never expected to see it.
“DO I HAVE FROSTBITE IN MY EARS? Why don't I hear movement out there, soldiers? Does this look like a drill we are being attacked! Move out.”
With the discipline we'd all thought had worn off by now, we snapped to it. No longer were we friends with an Angel, we were the weapons of a Demon.
Something about these halls felt different this time. We'd all spent years and lives carving out tunnel after tunnel, command hub cavern after cavern. But actually seeing why? Feeling for the first time like this was a real war, we were here as real soldiers… it felt strange. When you’re fighting the ice it's like you’re fighting your own body. Every move feels hopeless, it feels draining. Like a slow painful torture. You can kill a Zealot, sure. But you can't kill the cold. Jove claims all in the end. Picking up the standard issue rifle, bolting on the heavy ThermaVac armor plating, guess we found a new way to die. Funny how Terrans can do that.
The bulkhead flashed it's warning, I led my squad into the surface heat lock.
The engineering personel shutterd the heavy titanium hatch once more and clicked over the com
“Alright squaddies I this doesn't happen much so let me refresh your training!
Bolt into that crash seat and listen up! The Heat Lock will begin cycling as you ascend vertically with enough force to turn you into meat pie on Terra Gravity. Double check that latch on your visor! The Heat Lock is designed to reduce base Temp to Europa surface as fast as possible without blowing that glass straight into your eyes, but this has one hell of a thin margin of error. If your ThermaVac is compromised at any point in time you’ll learn what real cold is the hard way got it? Godspeed. May the Angel guide you to Jove.”
With that, the lift shot up, ascending through tunnel after tunnel after tunnel. The thermometer read cycled down. The read out was exclusively in Kelvin, only number that made since in this cold.
The lift speed and came to a stop.
“Heat cycle complete.”
“Airlock cycle initiated”
“Warning- Venting Atmosphere”
And just like that the front door shot open, and we all hit the ice as our boot spikes dug in. My HUD showed the flatline before I even saw the projectile. A constellation of frozen blood, ice, and metal drifted in the low gravity like a violent nebula, made of the souls of our comrades.
“Cover the sides! Stay low! Make those shots count, we don't know how long our ammo is going to last and it's a long walk to Terra for more!”
The squad open fired in all directions, as we finally saw the Zealots charging in. It was over as quick as it started. We lost a lot in the initial ambush, but we were all surprised to see our screens clear of any hostiles. My visor pinged, a request from recon.
“Sgt. Donovan, of the 67th Division. Go Recon.”
“Sgt. Donnovan, This is 2nd Page, Turner of the 93rd Recon Division, Command requests reconnaissance of the casualties. We've never seen a top-side attack before and are asking all squad leaders to document Intel.”
“Ten-4, Page, I've disabled link jammer, go for remote Jack in.”
My helmet cam flickered, a small display in the left showing what the cam received. I flicked my eyes to dismiss the window. Scanning the battlefield, all the frozen blood looked like the Eye of Jove itself had wept over us. Gusts of wind kicked up, yet the weight of Jove's Tears held them solidly to the ice below.
Red sure is a color you don't forget out here.
“Get a close up of that ThermaVac, Sgt. First time we've seen a zealots surface technology.” I expanded the window again, and used the glove controls to zoom in, scanning for composition and electrical components just as much as visual. As the camera made it up to the visor, I gasped.
“Recon. You seeing this?”
“Uuuh teeenn four Sgt. Return to base immediately and report your suit to engineering for a full visual memory wipe. Debrief with your CO immediately following. Do not speak to anyone until after Debrief. This is an order from Terra Command.”
“Ten-4.”
I looked back down at the zealots body, still in disbelief. “Well damn kid. Guess you remembered not to fidget with your rifle this time, huh?”

He listens to a lot of reggaeton, afrobeat, and R&B. C'mon guys, look at my face and say to me he doesn't, also he prob like old school rap too, thanks to uncle Aaron and his dad, Jefferson probably showed his some jazz
I feel like Mama Rio and Abuelita Gloria showed him some old Puerto Rican singers and he listens old songs from time to time, specially when his nana is visiting
This man knows mechanics. Period. Help his mom to fix things around the house, shower, the lights etc. Bet his 'son and dad' time involved something with fixing things around the house and Jefferson 'passing the knowledge ' to Miles
"Listen Miles, you're the man in the house when I'm not around got it?"
"'kay dad"
"When I'm not around you're responsible for your mom deal? Gotta make sure she's in good hands when I'm not around"
"I gotchu dad, don't worry"
Ok listen, I'm kicking my feet thinking about Miles tuning his uncle's Ducati (and prob Aaron has a Ducati Scrambler. I do not take criticism), while listening music I'm just *giggling like a schoolgirl*
Btw I feel like if Miles ever had a motorcycle for his personal use and not for Prowler activities, it would be a Kawasaki Ninja or a Yamaha XSR 900. For Prowler activity honestly, he would have a Hayabusa bc it's fast as fuck, with purple neon lights like his Prowler suit. you cannot argue with me. I feel like it was a way of him and his uncle spend time together before his dad died
Miles prob is always tinkering with the titanium claws and his paraphernalia. (I love this word btw)
So yeah prob hes always with his uncle doing shit on the motorcycle or his suit while listening music or sum, or practicing boxing together.
And I bet his mom slapped them two when she once arrived and saw Aaron teaching Miles how to pilot a bike
"What you're doing with my son Aaron!" *that one meme of a man slapping the player on the shoulder*
"Ouch ouch! I'm just teachin' the kid how to pilot Rio, I surrender I surrender!"
"¿Y tú? ¿Qué diablos está en tu mente, Miles? ¡Montando una motocicleta! What am I going to do with you Miles Gonzalo Morales?!"
"¡Cálmate mamá! Uncle Aaron was just teachin' me, no es gran cos- ouch! Mom that hurts!"
Speaking of which, Mama Rio has insane strength on her arms (being a nurse demand a lot of strength to carry patients, changing their clothes, helping them bathe and all), that being said, when Mama Rio get ✨la chancla✨ oh boy, run, no kidding, run
(Everytime my mom grabbed her havaianas I runned more than Usain Bolt. I still do honestly)
I have a feeling that Miles knows how to cook, like he always knew. Arroz con pollo? Bet, does it with eyes closed. Fancy meals? Oh boy he's probably the only guy that the women of the family let inside the kitchen to help with Christmas banquet.
He eat his veggies, hates wasting food, it's not a picky eater but don't put pickles on his burger for the love of God.
Bet his nana tried to give him a bit of coquito without his mom seeing. (I hc his nana is one of those old lady that are a menace to society)
"Take a sip don't worry, No one is watching"
"No nana I'm all good"
"¡Mamá! Take this away from Miles."
Since his dad passed away he understood quite early that now he is the man in the house, that now he's the one to take care of his mom. So he started paying more attention to the chores. His mom is on duty? He's putting some music and cleaning the house, changing the blankets of his mom's bed, and probably making something for her to eat when she come back.
Prob has his mom schedule on his phone to make sure he knows where she is so it wouldn't risk her seeing his as the Prowler and he can watch out from the buildings while Rio walks to her work
Sunday family lunch was usual at Miles' house, his dad 'helping' his mom with the food (he just looked and passed her the ingredients), while Miles set the table. Music on the radio, enjoying the day before Miles need to go back to Brooklyn Visions.
Prefer more salty foods than sweets. Likes eating steak, it doesn't matter if it's BBQ or carne assada, he likes meat. For sweets, he's obsessed with the way his mom does Tembleque (sorry Abuelita Gloria)
We know his room is quite similar to 1610 Miles, but I feel like he doesn't have as many toys as 1610 Miles does. He sold some and used the money to help his mom somehow, he just doesn't want to be a burden for her.
I feel like he doesn't give his mom the money, he straight up pays the bill, or does groceries, so there's no way his mom can deny it. That or he gives the money to his uncle and they pretend that it is Aaron helping them.
It's confirmed by the artbook that Miles Prowler is a vigilante. That being said I think he decided to be the Prowler to help his place somehow, maybe even to make his dad proud, and to make his mom's life easier (just imagine the amount of people that get in the hospital because of how dangerous is the city now my god).
His mom is the priority in his life, he loves his family, his neighborhood and his friends. He's a kind soul with a shattered heart.
Miles is a quite good student. Not the '🤓☝️ actually that's happened at 09:12 in 1786…' type of smart, but the fast thinking kind of smart student. If he doesn't remember the formula he uses logical thinking. Prob takes classes ahead of his years and since he's always tinkering with his uncle his grades in calculus related stuff are pretty high.
Very good with Spanish by the way. Since his dad passed away he started learning more and more to speak with his mom in her native language to make her feel more 'at home' somehow.
I feel like in the first week after his dad passed away he slept in his house for some time and not in Brooklyn Visions dorms, he wished to be with his mom. He did not want her to be alone on her bed, mourning hi dad's death. Abuelita Gloria stayed some months with them too to help her daughter and to help Miles
Miles do his best to be organized, make his bed everyday after waking up, his cabinet is always organized, his Jordans are clean and probably have a collection of them on a shelf in his room. The only messy place on his room is his desk
Has a vinyl collection, don't argue with me. There's literally a bunch of vinyls in his room, guys.
Has some old Puerto Rican singers vinyls on his room thanks to Abuelita Gloria
Miles sings a bit, and have quite a melodic baritone voice. For my synesthetic friends, his voice sounds like honey, Miles is most of times humming when he's making upgrades on his claws
He's more athletic than 1610 Miles. Parkour, boxing and playing basketball with his neighbors and uncle
Started parkour because of his prowler activities to keep up with his uncle, same with boxing, after all he needed to defend himself and his mom. I don't doubt he knows krav maga too and I also don't doubt he taught his mom self defense.
Bought his mom a self defense kit
Uncle Aaron teached him forbidden movements in jiu jitsu, I take zero criticism on that one
Miles has a hard time sleeping sometimes, doesn't shift much when sleeping and has a knife under his pillow or something both in his house room and in Brooklyn Visions.
Loves, love, loves kids, as i said he's a kind soul with a shattered heart, and I think he's quite good with kids, and scares the shit of some at the same time.
I feel 'angry painter' vibes from him. He sketches and all but I feel like he's more of a painter and graffiti kind of guy. I do think he knows how to play bass or piano btw
Would get piercings on his ear and tongue, yes. But since he's the Prowler it would be troublesome because of the time that takes to heal
The old ladies of the neighborhood love him, he's kind to them, and always scare away weird looking guys
Is the crush nextdoor of almost every girl on the neighborhood
One time he scared the shit out of a creep on his neighborhood. Punched the guy so bad that dislocate the man's jaw. Since then he need to hide himself on valentine day, the good part about it is that he got a lot of chocolate to eat.
Seems like a bad boy all the time but he's an introvert. Miles do his best to don't get attached to people bc he doesn't want to drag them into his world or risk people he loves
He just don't want see people dying anymore, that's why he does what he does, to make the world a little bit safe, even if it's just a bit
