Catholic students attending Hogwarts have to get a dispensation from Rome to go. Not because the Church has an issue with magic, but because they won't be able to fulfill their weekly obligation to attend Mass.

While Hogwarts technically has a non-denominational chapel, it's currently being used as an excellent place to store firewood. No one has asked to have a service in there for generations, nor do they still have a chaplain. The last chaplain at Hogwarts served at some point in the early 18th century, but no one really liked him and students weren't complaining that chapel was no longer compulsory.

Rome put her foot down at that point (once they found out...and they always find out) and began requiring a dispensation to attend, necessitating Paperwork.

(There isn't much the Church loves (beside the BVM) more than paperwork and bureaucracy.)

It's mostly a formality. Usually this would be handled at the parish level (pastors have the power to give a dispensation for the weekly obligation) but it's enough students and there may still be some Feelings about the Reformation.

SAINTS OF THE DAY (September 29)

The three Archangels — Michael, Gabriel and Raphael — are the only angels named in Sacred Scripture and all three have important roles in the history of salvation.

Saint Michael is the "Prince of the Heavenly Host," the leader of all the angels.

His name is Hebrew for "Who is like God?" and was the battle cry of the good angels against Lucifer and his followers when they rebelled against God.

He is mentioned four times in the Bible — in Daniel 10 and 12, in the letter of Jude, and in Revelation.

Saint Michael, whose forces cast down Lucifer and the evil spirits into Hell, is invoked for protection against Satan and all evil.

In 1899, Pope Leo XIII, having had a prophetic vision of the evil that would be inflicted upon the Church and the world in the 20th century, instituted a prayer asking for Saint Michael's protection to be said at the end of every Mass.

Christian tradition recognizes four offices of Saint Michael:

(i) to fight against Satan;

(ii) to rescue the souls of the faithful from the power of the enemy, especially at the hour of death;

(iii) to be the champion of God's people;

(iv) to call away from earth and bring men's souls to judgment.

"I am Gabriel, who stand before God." (Luke 1, 19)

Saint Gabriel, whose name means "God's strength," is mentioned four times in the Bible.

Most significant are Gabriel's two mentions in the New Testament:

1) to announce the birth of John the Baptist to his father Zacharias;

2) the Incarnation of the Word in the womb of Mary.

Christian tradition suggests that it is he who appeared to St. Joseph and to the shepherds.

Additionally, it was he who "strengthened" Jesus during his agony in the garden of Gethsemane.

"I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven, who stand before the Lord" (Tob 12:15)

Saint Raphael's name means "God has healed" due to his healing of Tobias' blindness in the Book of Tobit.

Tobit is the only book in which he is mentioned.

His office is generally accepted by tradition to be that of healing and acts of mercy.

Raphael is also identified with the angel in John 5:1-4 who descended upon the pond and bestowed healing powers upon it so that the first to enter it after it moved would be healed of whatever infirmity he was suffering.

November 2012 New York.

Dr Ethan Ramsey was exhausted. He had a successful launch of his book in Boston but now there was a tour. He was surprised at how well the book had been received. He had only being an attending for a relatively short time so he was expecting some blow back from that but it never came. He was about ready to leave the party when a familiar voice from his past said

“My my, some things do not change.”

“Estelle?”

He turns around and it is her. She had not changed since she graduated from Hopkins.

“Good to see you Ethan and congratulations on the book” she said giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

“Good to see you Estelle, I must admit I am surprised to see you.”

“Why, I know we have not seen each other since Hopkins…”

“Well when we broke up, you were angry at me.”

“I was but I did feel you were letting your past dictate your future. I understood why but I was still annoyed.”

“And if I persisted and we did not work out?”

“Yeah I can see how you think that would be worse.”

“It did not help that you dated Tobias so soon after too. I did doubt if you did truly love me.”

Estelle winces, the memories of even more fights and what ensued with Tobias after flashed through her mind.

“That was purely rebound on my part.”

“And yet Tobias refused to believe that, he blamed me for you not loving him.”

“I did not mean for it to be messy.”

“I do regret some of what I said to you. Tobias’s actions were not your fault or mine.”

“I heard about the final year.”

A flash of anger flashes across his face. “He took the whole if I can not have it nor can you routine too far. Thankfully his behaviour did not cost me Edenbrook.”

“And look how well you flourished.”

“You have done well too.”

“Langdone is treating me well. Surprisingly.”

“I was surprised you went to New York given the proximity to some of the family members.”

“I know right but Langdone was what I wanted to do most.”

“I am happy for you Estelle. Truly”

“Me too Ethan.” Says Estelle as she puts her hand on Ethan’s.

Ethan smiles and they decide to go to the Hotel Ethan is staying at for a night cap. One drink turned into a couple and subtle hand touches turned into a yearning for something more. They got up and when they hugged they instead kissed.

“Did you want to come up to my room?”

Estelle kisses her answer. They catch the lift up, the trip up is mercifully quick and they make their way to his room.

The kisses by now are hot and heavy and once they are in the room Ethan slams the door shut and pushes Estelle against it. He unzips her dress and kisses his way down her body, laying waste to her bra, he lavished attention to her breasts. His hand moves to her centre and Estelle is drenched. She moans at the contact. Ethan makes his way down. He teases her and then he slowly runs his tongue around her swollen numb before entering.

“Fuck, how have you improved” moaned Estelle.

Ethan grunts his approval at that comment and that sent yet another pleasant sensation through her. Before long Ethan has her on the precipice. With a final flick of his tongue, Estelle falls screaming.

After she recovers she walks Ethan to the bed.

“This is only for tonight yeah?”

Ethan nods in agreement.

“Now that is sorted, how about we fuck each other into oblivion?”

Ethan kisses her hungrily. They enjoy multiple, euphoric rounds and both fall into a very blissful sleep.

Estelle wakes first, wondering if the night before was a dream but when she turns her head she sees Ethan there. She had always enjoyed sex with Ethan but last night was next level, maybe because it was for one night only. A part of her always wanted one last night with him before she graduated. Ethan stirred.

“Good morning” he says, his voice still laced with sleep.

“Thank you for last night.”

“It was fantastic wasn’t it.”

Estelle blushes. We may never work out romantically but at least we will have some much better memories to remember us by now.”

“I agree,” says Ethan as he gets up and puts on some pants. “I had always hoped we could be friends.”

Estelle smiled. “Me too. So despite last night, friends then.”

“Most definitely.”

They got dressed and had breakfast, thankful for the closure and new friendship.

The book tour ended and he was back in Boston. Work was busy but he was sure to make time for Dr Harper Emery. Neurosurgeon fellow. They had enjoyed a great friendship but both were apprehensive of taking that next step. Buoyed by the confidence of his encounter with Estelle he asked Harper on an official first date. It was a lovely night and they decided to be a couple. Things were great, their friendship creating a solid foundation for a romantic relationship.

About eight weeks after that encounter Estelle was at home, again exhausted. She had been more exhausted of late and now she was concerned. Concerned that her “one final night” with Ethan had consequences. She did the test. It was positive. She did not know what to do. They had agreed to be friends sure, but being pregnant. This was a game changer. She knew Ethan had a right to know but decided to wait a little bit.

Meanwhile things were going great between Harper and Ethan, even being public was enjoyable. Naveen was happy that Ethan had not closed himself off to a romantic relationship and he really liked Harper too. He was sure that they would be a long term item and that both of them would still go on to do great things with their careers.

A few weeks after doing the test and getting up the courage Estelle makes the trip to Boston. She was anxious. She kept an open mind, any choices at what was to happen. She felt it unfair to have no input from Ethan and he was the father, it seemed callous to not include him. So she made the journey to Boston and to Edenbrook to break the news.

Ethan was waiting in the Atrium. He had finished his shift a few hours ago but he stayed back, waiting for Harper. Harper made it down, she greeted Ethan with a kiss. They were about to walk out, arm in arm when Ethan heard his name. Ethan stopped and looked around. Then he saw Estelle.

“Who is this?” Asked Harper

“I am Dr Estelle Campion. A friend of Ethan’s.”

“Dr Harper Emery, Dr Ramsey’s girlfriend.”

Estelle was shocked and felt her resolve waiver, she did not want to hurt this woman or Ethan but her desire to allow Ethan sat in this matter won out.

“I am also carrying Dr Ramsey’s unborn child.” She said.

The colour drains from Ethan’s face. Whilst Harper looks on in shock.

Not even sorry for ending there but the scene I rewriting for the event ends on a cliffhanger so why not written form?

A note: most of you are aware that Hopkins girl in my world was very different with neither Ethan nor Tobias being friends with her. In this reality Estelle liked Ethan from the get go and was patient given how he was reluctant to enter a relationship. Tobias fell hard and was jealous of their relationship. They have. Discussion about Residency as Estelle is in the year above them. Ethan was not sure what he was feeling so when Estelle said I love you he could not say it back. Estelle was understanding but Ethan ended it, stating if they persisted then it would be messy. Estelle was upset. About a month later at a party Tobias shoots his hot and scores, Estelle was looking for nothing serious. Tobias seemed to accept it but wanted to change her mind which he was unsuccessful at. Estelle still spoke to Ethan and he was pissed that she was with Tobias but as time went on she ended it and was on better terms with Ethan. Tobias was ropable and blamed Ethan for the break up, even though the break up was because they both wanted different things. This caused a schism and the final year toxicity that marked the end of Ethan and Tobias. Estelle was not lying, she wanted to be friends with Ethan but kept away as she did not want to get caught up anymore in the drama that was them.

So, both Claire and Adelaide are straight, Brooklyn is Bisexual, and Charlie is either Bi or Pan (I'm still figuring it out). All of them are cis females with she/her pronouns.

🐶 - does your oc have any pets?

Brooklyn: Her family had a golden retriever named Daisy. When she and Thomas got married and started their family. They got a cocker spaniel named Logan and a Border Collie named Lucy.

Claire: As a child, she had two cats named Lily and Annie as well as a dog named Bailey. With Ethan, they had Jenner, an Australian Shepherds named Luna, a Chocolate Labradoodle named Miles and a Longhaired Dachshund named Snickers.

Adelaide: As a Child, She had a cat named Bailey. With Tobias, they had a cat named Kacy and two dogs named Skye and Coco.

Charlie: She didn't have any childhood pets (she had 4 siblings). But with Derek, they had 3 Australian Shepherds named Atlas, Luca, and Milo.

Eddie Redmayne began his career as a working actor on the stage, before making his film debut in the 2006 psychological thriller Like Minds, and the Robert De Niro-directed The Good Shepherd that same year. Cut to 10 years later, and he'd won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in 2014's The Theory of Everything, and earned another Best Actor nomination the following year for The Danish Girl.

"There is so much adrenaline coursing through your body that night that weirdly, a lot of it's impossible to remember," Redmayne recalls of winning his Oscar. "But my overwhelming memory was right at the end of the night — so, into the morning I suppose; I was staying at The Sunset Tower Hotel and a handful of friends came back to the room with me and my wife. It was the first time that I was surrounded by a cocoon of people I knew and loved, and there was a moment as the sun was rising over Sunset Boulevard where it momentarily sank in. And, as a British actor, having for years come over to LA and lived all those clichés of auditioning, it felt like there was a romance to Los Angeles that was fully fulfilled in that moment."

The years since have seen him play such disparate roles as a magizoologist (the Fantastic Beasts franchise), a meteorologist (The Aeronauts), and a member of the Chicago Seven (The Trial of the Chicago 7). Redmayne's latest sees him embody a real-life serial killer, Charlie Cullen, in director Tobias Lindholm's The Good Nurse.

"The Good Nurse was not a part that I necessarily would've felt that I was born to play — America's most prolific serial killer — but Tobias saw something in me, and I'm thrilled he did," the actor says. "That was a bit of a question mark to the people around me and, to be honest, a lot of them haven't seen the movie yet. So, we'll see how I fared!"

His versatility as a leading man is a reflection of the movies that have inspired and emboldened Redmayne throughout his career. Below, he shares with A.frame five of the films that made him the actor he is today.

Giant

1956

"Giant blew my mind. I watched it maybe five, six years ago, and the scale of it combined with the intimacy of it, I thought was astonishing. It was a moment when I was wanting to watch all of James Dean's films in one go — not in one sitting, but over a few days. And I thought that, as an actor, his physicality was completely astonishing. There is that scene where Dean is pacing out the first land that he's owned, and it was something about the silhouette, and the particular rhythm, and getting a full sense of the entirety of his body, and how much was communicated through that stays with me".

Cabaret

1972

Directed by: Bob Fosse | Written by: Jay Presson Allen

"That opening shot with Joel Grey [as the Master of Ceremonies], that's an image that is etched onto my retina. Everything about it just took me somewhere that I had never experienced — the mood of the piece, the overwhelming corruption of it, the specificity of the choreography. The way that, through the quick cuts of moments with Joel and Liza Minnelli, you got entire relationships that felt embedded and sketched. And, of course, the music blew my mind. In fact, so much so that Cabaret really was the piece that catalyzed me into being an actor".

[Redmayne returned to the stage to star in the London revival of 'Cabaret,' playing the Master of Ceremonies opposite Jessie Buckley's Sally Bowles. The production swept this year's Laurence Olivier Awards.]

"I don't have many dreams, but it was a life dream. There was a moment on the opening night in London, I'd been sent some flowers, but I hadn't been able to open the cards from the flowers. And, halfway through the opening night show, I opened a card and it was from Joel Grey. And I treasure that. His performance in Cabaret remains for me one of the great master classes".

The Beat That My Heart Skipped

"The Beat That My Heart Skipped manages to evoke something that is so specific that I had in your head perhaps all my life, but perhaps never even articulated to myself. And then, you see it articulated on-screen and it shocks you with the reminder of humanity. There's a moment when Romain Duris, who gives a tour de force in this film, he's a concert pianist and he's practicing the piano. He's sitting at the piano, there's no one there, and he's about to play a tricky passage. There's a moment before his hand goes down, it's hovering over the keys and you see the tension of nerves in his fingers. It was an experience that I had felt so specifically; that thing where you are rehearsing something by yourself, there's no one to feel embarrassed or to make a fool of, and yet that tension of nerves can still hit you. I thought that it was an insight into the power of film in a very intimate moment".

My Summer of Love

2004

"My Summer of Love is a film that I saw very early on when I was starting acting professionally. It's the intimacy of this relationship between Natalie Press and Emily Blunt, with a dumbfounding performance by Paddy Considine. I went in not having read anything, and it stunned and shocked me and seduced me. And it has one of the great soundtracks by Goldfrapp. It was a moment when I went straight out and started watching all of Pawel's work. There was something so unplaceable about it, but completely unique. It still haunts me, that film".

Robin Hood

1973

Directed by: Wolfgang Reitherman | Written by: Larry Clemmons, Ken Anderson, Vance Gerry, Frank Thomas, Eric Cleworth, Julius Svendsen, David Michener

"Robin Hood was the film of my childhood. Now, it's the one I go back to with my kids. But also, sometimes the skill of voice acting can be underestimated, and I think that the work that Peter Ustinov [as Prince John] does in this is one of the great vocal performances, alongside an actor called Terry-Thomas who plays Sir Hiss. I could pretty much deliver every line of that movie. When you have kids that there are those few movies that you are desperate for your children to love as much as you do, and fortunately, they do".
