need a norwegian name for your wip?

norwegian characters in english books are not that common, in my experience, but still there's some names i love that i really want to share.

for this i have chosen to lean on the newest baby name trend in norway; finding the oldest most norwegian name in your family tree and naming your kid that. this means more common/popular names like ola, ida, magnus, sunniva, etc will not be listed (though i can make a post like that too, if that's something you want to see).

a lot of these have an origin that traces back to the viking age and i tried to avoid names that came after christianity. you'll see it esp in names that have for example bjørn (from old norse for bear), thor/tor (like the god), -hild (from old norse for battle), -mund (from old norse for protection, i'm pretty sure).

i tried to keep to names that either are very rare (less than 10 people share the first name) or that are old and coming back - you have no idea how many church records i just went through to find some good old ones. hope some of these could come to use for some! feel free to message, send an ask, or leave a reply if you have questions about spelling, pronunciations, or anything else.

(sidenote, i say "norwegian", but some of these can be used in other scandi countries as well, either with the same spelling or something similar to it.)

ソロコンサート『大自然とフィンランドの風景』 at cafe’Me:Ma

熊本県にある金峰山。ヒノキの森に囲まれたこのお山にぽつんと一軒家カフェ「cafe’Me:Ma」をオープンされたご夫妻、KEIKOさんとRICHARDさん。

RICHARDさんと私は音楽仲間で長年の友人。カフェより少し先に念願のコンサートができるスペースとしてオープンされたのですが、時代はコロナ禍へと突入・・・その間にKEIKOさんの夢だったカフェとしてオープンされ、第一回目のコンサートゲストとしてお声かけいただきソロコンサート『大自然とフィンランドの風景』を開催させていただきました。旅行もままならぬご時世、お客様にたっぷりと北欧・フィンランドの音風景を楽しんで、気分転換していただきたいという想いでいっぱいでした。

cafe’Me:Maさんの焙煎珈琲とマフィン、kimiylさんの台湾カステラ、bobitoさんの花刺繍小物などの小さなマルシェも大好評！今後も音楽を通じて、いろんな方々と交流して幸せな時間を過ごしたいと思います。ありがとうございました。

フィンランドで愛されている民謡やクラシックの名曲、フィンランドに足を運んでインスパイアされて作曲した私のオリジナル作品を演奏。休憩中にはフィンランドの民族楽器カンテレをご紹介し、お客様と一緒に奏でて楽しみました。

A solo concert “Mother Nature and Landscape of Finland” at cafe’Me:Ma

Mt.Kinpo in Kumamoto Prefecture. Mrs. KEIKO and Mr. RICHARD are a married couple who opened cafe'Me:Ma, a solitary cafe on this mountain surrounded by a forest of cypress trees.

I played some folk songs and classical masterpiece that are loved in Finland, as well as my original compositions that were inspired by my visits to Finland. During the break, I introduced the Finnish folk instrument kantele and enjoyed playing it with the guests.

1917年のウクライナ独立直後に、フィンランドの国民的詩人エイノ・レイノ（1878～1926年）が帝政ロシアの圧政に苦しむウクライナを思って書いた詩「Terve Ukraina」。 2022年2月24日、ロシアはウクライナへの本格的な軍事侵攻を開始。フィンランドの作曲家オッリ・サーリがこの100年を越えた詩「Terve Ukraina」に音楽をつけ、同年2月26日にヘルシンキのロシア大使館に集まった数千人のデモ参加者の前で、アカペラの大合唱で抗議しました。私はその民衆の姿に感銘を受け震えました。

私も共に戦争の終結と平和を祈りたいと思いピアノで演奏しました。

Immediately after Ukraine gained independence in 1917, Finnish national poet Eino Leino (1878-1926) wrote the poem ''Terve Ukraina'', thinking of Ukraine suffering from the oppressive rule of imperial Russia. On February 24, 2022, Russia began a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. Finnish composer Olli Saari set his 105-year-old poem "Telve Ukraina" to music, and performed it in front of thousands of demonstrators gathered at the Russian embassy in Helsinki on February 26 of the same year. It was sung by a large a cappella group. I was moved and trembled when I saw the people.

I'd like to join them in praying for an end to war and peace.

Utøya and Oslo July 2011

On this day it is 10 years since the 22 july attack. On July 22, 2011, a far-right terrorist detonated a car bomb in the government quarter in Oslo, before driving to the Labor Party's summer camp for young people on the island of Utøya. 8 people died in the bombing, the massacre on Utøya lasted 66 minutes and 69 people, mainly teenagers, were killed.

The perpetrator was motivated especially by the racist Eurabia conspiracy theory and hatred for the Labor Party, Muslims, immigrants, feminism and social democratic Norway in general.

While the terrorist was motivated by hate, the civilian efforts to help the victims was impressive. In the government quarter people helped each other. On Utøya, as the kids tried to hide or swim off the island, despite the fact that the perpetrator was shooting, civilians in boats went out to pick them up.

Today we take a moment to remember the victims of this attack and all victims of hate crimes and political violence, rest in peace:

Im an autistic and transmasc theatre student without a car lisence, still healing from surgery and a load of sensory issues around restaurant work from a previous job.
