I was thinking again.

I know, I shouldn't strain myself, but I couldn't help it. But I was thinking about Olwë, and why he didn't at least give the Noldor a ride to Beleriand.

And then I remembered this:

This is a map that compares Valinor to the rest of Arda, though I cropped it to only show the important bit.

This is the route the Noldor (specifically Fëanáro) took, which, I will note, took anywhere from 9 to 19 Sun Years (hard to tell with the Valian Year scale):

This is the route people usually propose (although usually most people don't fully understand the scale of Valinor).

This is also, presumably, the route Eärendil took to reach Valinor, and the route the Host of Valinor took to reach Endórë. For Eärendil, it took 8 years. For the Host of Valinor, it took, at the very most, 3 years.

That's a wide range of time, 3 - 19 years. But there are a couple things to note.

For the Noldor, they walked for most of it, which makes sense, as Uinen and Ossë were actively working against them. This could be why they took so long.

For the HoV, they had both Manwë and Ulmo aiding them, which would likely hasten their journey.

Considering how, if the Teleri ferried the Noldor, they wouldn't have Manwë's help, and they probably wouldn't have Ulmo's assistance, I'd say Eärendil's 8 years is the closest. That's a little under a Valian Year. I can kind of see why they wouldn't want to make that journey.

Olwë's still an idiot and a jerk for not at least offering to help the Noldor build their own ships, especially after the Noldor welcomed his people to Aman with countless jewels as gifts and, from what Fëanáro said, built the Falmari their homes and cities. And Olwë had the gall to tell them "We will not teach you".

TTRPG Travel Speed Calculator

Hi gang!

Sorry that I've been so quiet on the homebrew front. I have a bunch ready to go but the Executives are not Functioning.

In lieu of that, however, I wanted to share with you all the stable release of v1.2 of my Travel Speed Calculator

I used speeds presented in the DMG/PHB of 5th edition, but a lot of these speeds should be analogous with most settings.

It's a G-Drive Sheet, and it should be locked so that the only way to access it is by saving a file to your own account/desktop.

I made this resource because none of the free ones that I could find inspired much in the way of user friendliness or range of speeds.

If anyone has any suggestions about how to improve it, though, feel free to DM me!

Got my game fixed and enough down time (and motivation) to get part 3 of this little project out. This time we're looking at traveling between major cities and the smaller settlements.

As before, some location have 2 or more plausible routes between them. I documented only the one which was the quickest/most direct or that made the most sense. For instance, the road through Labyrinthian is marked as a main road and is a faster route if your coming from, say, Morthal or Dawnstar and headed to Whiterun, but Labyrinthian is a known hazard and I'd assume the average traveler goes around.

Maps are included to show which routes I took, and I've included estimated travel times for on-foot, horse/carriage walking, and horse/carriage trotting.

About Ivarstead - the north road out of town is narrow, rocky, curvy, mostly uphill, and not paved. That north road is difficult to locate traveling TO Ivarstead, and the main paved road north of town is tricky to locate coming FROM Ivarstead.

NOTES: 1. These routes only follow main roads. 2. Times are rounded to the nearest quarter hour. 3. These times do not account for factors such as resting, party size/fitness, bad weather, road conditions, uphill travel, warzones, bandits, or other hazards that impede travel. 4. The road between Whiterun and Windhelm splits and then reconnects - the times/distances are very similar and therefore share a measurement. 5. There are two routes from Solitude to Helgen - one through Whiterun, and one through Falkreath. I included both because they both make sense (major stops along the way) and the times are close but not too close.

Welcome to summer free time! It is lots of green here. And it is easy to climb here and to explore. Everything is here with a funny and very welcome. Everything is green. Lots of bushes. Whole place to have a free time and explore. Hot summer day. But it can go a little raining. A little, u know, and summer and good and kind. And here you can explore, you walk and walk – here and there!

Stone buildings, fence, some passages. Something is old, something is new. Zone for explore and summer free time. Just like in childhood, when you like to run here and there. To be at this place! To climb at that place. To go though bush and green. And to go across that brick pillar. And what is there? And what is here? It is so interesting to explore!

Summer explore! And summer travel! Cool to walk along these bushes and green!

Whole world. Just like a explore in a movie Stalker by Tarkovskiy. Explore. Such atmosphere cinema creation art. About a summer and a country house. How good a grasshoppers are singing in the grass!

travel from Hateno to Rito Village: three at a time, Teba is one of them, Teba takes slate after transport and flies to initial location for the next transport, this occurs 5 times with Wild and Teba being the last trip. this would take maybe a day at most compared to a multiple day walk. yes?
