🎃 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗿𝗼𝗻 🎃

In the turbulent year of 1960, an enigmatic figure known as "The Great General" cast his ominous shadow over a South American state. His reputation, a tenebrous legend, surpassed his meager military prowess. Born of privilege, not talent, his dominion over the land was built on fear and ruthless executions.

One eerie day, he embarked on an expedition to a nameless, remote town where chickens outnumbered souls, and a simple meal of rice and beans held more value than lofty ideals. His mission: to mock the struggles of ordinary people. Yet, he could not have foreseen the descent into an abyss that awaited him.

The horror began when he coerced local farmers and fishermen into grotesque performances, silencing any who dared oppose his twisted amusement. But the true nightmare lurked within a decrepit shanty. There, he stumbled upon cryptic books written in an eerie script. Silence reigned, despite his violent inquisitions, until a quaking woman unveiled a concealed trap door in the floor. Defying her desperate pleas, he descended into a chasm, unearthing an intricate tunnel leading to a hidden underground sanctuary. This was no rebel's lair, but a crypt of dread built by ancient civilizations, concealing arcane technology untouched by time. The General's gaze fell upon lifelike robots, grotesque automatons resistant to the ravages of ages. Driven by his insatiable hunger for power, he recklessly attempted to awaken the mechanical sentinels through a cryptic computer thinking about world dominion. A dark ritual unfurled, igniting a cataclysmic response. The ancient machines turned on his men, orchestrating a ghastly symphony of metallic death with noises of chainsaws and broken bones.

As they circled him, they revealed their cursed genesis. "Once, we were human, warriors" they intoned, "but a shaman's curse transmuted us into beings of iron, for only iron conceals a killer's heart. You, too, shall share our fate: an eternity of silence, encased in an iron coffin, a grotesque parody of life."

In a blinding flash, The Great General joined their grotesque metallic ranks, stripped of humanity. He waited in eternal torment, a soulless sentinel in the shadows, eager to claim more hapless souls who dared venture into the abyss.

Casual

They both agreed they could—wanted to—keep it casual. It became almost a game to see who could stay the most casual, no matter what they did, what they felt. Derek casually sealed their first kiss. Stiles casually pulled him into bed the first time. Breathing hard, staring at the ceiling with stars in his eyes, Derek asked, "Wanna do that again?" Casually, of course. Stiles rolled on top of him and playfully bit at his chest. "You up for it, big guy?" Days and nights and weeks later, Stiles casually cooked dinner for them both, and Derek made breakfast. Spare toothbrushes were added to each bathroom without fanfare. Early one morning, still pleasantly buzzing from the night before, Derek crept to the kitchen, digging in the bag he'd left on the counter. Stiles was still asleep, arm flung across the bed onto Derek's side. Derek set the key casually in his upturned palm, then quietly dressed for work. His phone was silent all day. When he returned home, there were sneakers by the door, three hoodies in the coat closet, and a note on the fridge: Went to get dinner -S He smiled. Stiles moved his things in and a year later, casually sent Derek listing for bigger places, closer to both of their jobs. They found a larger house, one with a yard and a reading nook for Derek and an office space for Stiles. "I love you," Derek said, casually of course. Stiles kissed him, hands at his waist, nearly sweeping him off his feet. "I love you, too." Just as casual. Six months, hundreds of boxed and gallons of paint later, Derek woke to the scent of bacon and waffles wafting into the room from downstairs. A black velvet box sat casually on his chest.

Although I didn’t get to read quite as many fics as last year (you can see 2020’s list here), I still read a ton of sterek fics and they helped me get through the roughest parts of 2021. I want to celebrate some of favorites fics of 2021 and show appreciation for some great content creators. ✨✨ Sterek Big Bang 2021 is happening! ✨✨

After a successful interest check, it was clear that the Sterek Big Bang had to happen, as someone said “2021 needs this kind of joy” so we’re going to bring it 🎉

We decided to go for the big side of Big Bang for this round and do a 20k minimum word count. 

For everyone who answered 10 or 15k in the interest check, please do still consider joining because you’ll have months to write your fic! We’re really going into this on a relaxed schedule to make it a stress free environment. And we’re definitely keeping the mini bang idea in our little suggestion box for future adventures. 🤞

The event schedule will be posted next week, on Saturday February 20th 2021!!

He’s in the middle of adding milk to his bowl of granola when Stiles yanks out the chair beside him and drops a plate loaded with two cinnamon rolls, a handful of bacon, and a pile of strawberries onto the table with a clatter and plops down in the seat. “So you said you were a writer,” he says, glancing at Derek before picking up a cinnamon roll and taking a bite, “write anything I know?”

Derek resists the urge to ask if he was raised by wolves. “Do you read historical fiction?”

“Nope,” Stiles says, “but that doesn’t mean I can’t start. Your name or a pen name?” Derek gives him his full name and assures him he’s not expecting him to read them, but Stiles just nods, sucking a strawberry into his mouth in a way that almost looks obscene. “No, see, now I have a great icebreaker for all those shitty work events where they make you tell a fun fact about yourself. Derek Hale, world renowned author—”

“I’m really not.”

“—carried me down a mountain—”

“Carried? I barely helped you.”

“—bloody, wounded—”

“I don’t think anyone is going to believe you,” Derek says, and Stiles snorts.

Derek held his right hand up. “Here. Use your fangs.”

Stiles stared at him.

“Do it.” He flashed a grin, the toothy, confident one that made Stiles’s heart pound.

He looked at his own left hand, the long fang gashes along the top and across his palm. He let his fangs grow, a sensation he associated with stretching a stiff muscle; he took Derek’s hand, carefully positioning his fangs.

Derek’s gaze stayed on his face, his chest rising rapidly. He licked his lips.

Stiles bit down, breaking skin. Blood burst under his teeth, flowing thick over his tongue. He dragged his fangs sharply, mimicking how it felt when Derek bit him, and made his first scar on a packmate. It felt good, even with blood in his mouth. Not like he was hurting him, but rather leaving a little piece of himself on the tapestry of Derek’s skin, the shape of his new fangs, the memory of his first night as part of the pack.

Derek took his hand when he let go, pressing their palms together to show him how their bite marks lined up, fitting together almost perfectly.
