Overcompensating: Jack Abbot x Reader
Tagging: @kmc1989 @cosmic-psychickitty @ilariyalavorowrites @spooky-librarian-ghost
Thank you to the wonderful @caffeinatedwoman for sparking this idea.

Jack is in pain.
He hides it well but you can tell from the slight shift of his weight, the way he’s started to lean on things during the quieter moments when he thinks that no one’s looking. It’s only going to get worse because he’s six hours into his shift and it’s hasn’t even reached the witching hour yet.
“You need to sit down.” You say forcefully as you use your foot to kick one of the rolling stools towards him. “You’re going to fuck up your hip.”
“Nah, it’s all good.” He says, kicking it back towards you with his bad leg. It rolls into the halfway space between the two of you and you give him a pointed look.
“Jack.” You say with exasperation. “Nobody is going to think you’re weak for needing to take a breather. Your hip must be on fire right now. I can literally see you overcompensating.”
He straightens up, his mouth fixing in grim line as he glowers at you. You roll your eyes before taking his hand and pulling him towards one of the closed off treatment rooms.
“Sit.” You say gesturing at the bed and he sighs before parking himself on the edge as you draw the curtain across the window for a little privacy.
“Faye, I don’t need you to coddle me.” He tells you as you crouch down in front of him and roll up the leg of his scrubs to reveal his prosthetic leg. It’s a transtibial prosthesis that ends just below his right knee. The life span of each one is between 3-5 years and Jack’s is well past it’s sell by date.
He’s been fitted for another but due to the new tariffs, there’s been a delay on sending it over from the manufacturer in Germany. The misalignment of the ball joint mechanism is what’s causing his hip problems. It knocks him off kilter, distributing his weight unevenly which leads to putting additional pressure on his hip, back and thigh. It’s the reason he spends hours after his shift on the couch or in bed with a heat pack on his hip.
“You clearly do.” You remark as you help to remove the leg. He hisses in relief as the extra weight is removed, leaning back on his hands to relieve some of the pain at the base of his spine.
Your hands glide up his thigh, fingertips digging into the tense muscles to relieve some of the ache from the overcompensation.
“How’s that feeling?” You ask him and he huffs in response. “Jack baby, use your words.”
“Better, good.” He tells you, his head tipped back towards the ceiling as he closes his eyes “Now if you could just shift your right hand a little higher…”
“Handjobs are for good boys who listen to their wives.” You remind him as you work over the knots in his hamstring.
“And what do bad boys get?” He asks, the ghost of a smile crossing his lips, indicating the pain is starting to subside. You shift between his parted legs, leaning in close. Your lips brushing over that naughty little spot just underneath the hinge of his jaw and his breath hitches at the sensation of your teeth grazing over it.
“I guess we’ll have to wait and see when we get home, won't we soldier.”

May Update
Helllllooooo everyone! Sun and Moon and the Fanzine crew have been quietly working away here at Glitches and Glitterglue HQ but it’s about time you lovely people had an update! I think Moon is ready for a break after being worked so hard, but Sun will not accept anything less than perfect for you all!
Well, we are well on our way! We’ve now ironed out the last wrinkles with all our production companies and we’re super excited to share the results of our labour! We are just awaiting final proofs for the last changes on a couple of items and to give the green light to produce the goods.
Our next steps will be receiving the goods, boxing up and dispatching in waves! We cannot express how excited are to be so close to the finish line and have these bundles in your hands.
A few of you have been asking about tariffs and what these will be impacting. The tariffs (from our understanding and research) would mostly affect items being imported to the US, the zines and merch coming directly to our shipping team from manufacturers from overseas. We are planning on our US items being shipped to backers from within the US and many of our international items being shipped from the UK, with a few exceptions. This was always our plan to both help split the load for our team and this should also help with tariff issues should there be further problems and fees trickling through the shipping systems.
The honest answer is we’re charting uncertain waters with this but to our current understanding, this shouldn’t impact you but may slightly increase the waiting times for things to arrive with us. Should there be any need for further guidance, we will let you all know via update.
Sneak Peeks! Aren't they amazing? Some snippets of works you have to look forward to from the talented RAVLIKSBLOG, LYCANKEYY and ELDRITCH-BEETLE!

Annnnd here’s an updated timeline!
Updated Fazwatch Timeline
What's happening next? Here's the up to date estimated outline as of May 2025!
There were some small issues that have been resolved with our manufacturers, but after reviewing and finalizing proofs, items are in production!
We expect to begin receiving some items in the next few weeks and into June. Here is the updated timeline reflecting the delay.
February-March 2025: Funds Received & Items Ordered! We have received the funds from Kickstarter and are in the process of finalizing our order details and sending all of the amazing art to our manufacturers. Proof and Production times can vary, but we will send updates to backers as details are finalized and items go into production.
April-May 2025: Proofs Reviewed, Revised, & Approved. Printing and Manufacturing is underway! Proofs received from manufacturers and our team has reviewed everything for quality and accuracy. This process can go back and forth multiple times. With the final approval of the art, the manufacturers will begin production!
June 2025: We will send out Backer Surveys to confirm everyone's shipping details. We are planning on surveys being sent out in June, but will send an update prior to sending and to remind backers to look for them once they are sent.
Mid June-July 2025 (estimated): Items arrive and fulfilment begins!
July-Sept of 2025 (estimated): Packages are Shipped & Digital Rewards are Sent! Once we have confirmed where everything needs to be shipped, we will begin to send out packages in waves. This does mean that everyone's packages will not arrive around the same time, but this in unavoidable with how many of you there are! It will be during this time we plan to send out the digital rewards.
More detailed information on digital reward fulfilment will be coming in a future update.
These are estimated dates that we’ll be able to further refine as we get farther along in the process. These may change depending on manufacturing, and other factors we have done our best to plan for.
Thank you all for your patience and I’m sure you’ll hear more good news from us soon!

The confidence game doesn’t begin with a lie. It begins with a story—one so emotionally resonant it feels like truth. It offers meaning, identifies villains, flatters the audience, and—when fully deployed—quietly opens the vault.
Donald Trump’s political rise is not just a break from convention. It’s a textbook long con. Not in the casual sense of dishonesty, but in the classic structure: the Big Lie, the emotional hook, the moving target, the victim narrative, and finally, the identity trap—where the mark can no longer afford to walk away because belief has become inseparable from self.
The script is familiar. Whether in a Ponzi scheme, a shell company, or a populist campaign, the pattern is the same. The conman begins not with evidence but with a narrative. Trump’s version is always some variation on a central myth: America has been betrayed, the system is rigged, and only he can fix it. The villains rotate—immigrants, globalists, bureaucrats, journalists—but the goal is constant: create clarity through division, and turn grievance into identity.
The genius of this narrative lies not in its truth, but in its simplicity. It sells not just an outcome, but a self-image. You’re not just supporting a candidate. You’re seeing through the lies. You’re part of the resistance. To believe is to belong. To doubt is to defect.
This is the first move of the long con: the Big Lie. Not just a falsehood, but a worldview. “The election was stolen.” “The deep state is after me because I’m fighting for you.” These aren’t claims to debate. They’re loyalty tests. And the price of failing them is exile from the story you’ve been promised.
And the mark? The mark is not foolish. The mark is angry, disillusioned, and tired of being told to trust institutions that no longer deliver. Trump didn’t invent that despair—he capitalized on it. He gave it direction. He gave it enemies. And he offered himself as both weapon and refuge.
Once belief takes hold, facts become noise. The con fuses politics with identity, and identity with moral survival. Doubting Trump means doubting yourself. And so the mark invests more, not less.
But a con doesn’t pay off. So the grifter keeps moving the goalposts. The wall? Still coming. The swamp? Still draining. The deep state? Still lurking. Every failure becomes proof of sabotage. Every delay, evidence of how powerful the enemy must be. The promise is always just out of reach—and that’s the point.
And when reality intervenes—when courts reject his claims, when fraud is exposed, when indictments land—Trump doesn’t retreat. He adapts. Exposure becomes persecution. Accountability becomes martyrdom. The scam becomes sacred.
This is the fatal turn in the long con: when truth no longer matters. When reality is no longer shared. What remains is not democracy but spectacle—a theater of grievance, rage, and blind loyalty.
We’ve seen this before.
Mussolini cast himself as a savior while dismantling Italy’s institutions. Berlusconi blurred corruption with charisma, laundering scandal through media control. Ferdinand Marcos used crisis to seize power and enrich allies. Joseph McCarthy waved blank papers and claimed they named traitors. Each man sold lies as loyalty, and each hollowed out public trust from within.
And there may be another layer to this performance: a financial con wrapped inside the political one. The chaos isn’t incidental. It may be the plan.
In times of upheaval, those closest to power often find ways to turn disruption into wealth. Trump’s erratic tariff wars, billed as economic nationalism, upended markets, collapsed sectors, and triggered retaliatory shocks. But while farmers went bankrupt and consumers paid more, the market opened space for those with foresight—or insider access—to buy low and consolidate.
Geographer David Harvey calls this accumulation by dispossession: crisis used not to correct the system, but to extract from it. Devalue public assets. Destabilize protections. Create just enough chaos to buy cheap what others are forced to abandon. It’s not just policy failure—it’s extraction dressed as populism.
The con isn’t just psychological. It’s material. It’s not just about being lied to—it’s about being looted.
And that’s what makes this moment different—and more dangerous. The scam isn’t happening outside the system. It’s running through it. Congress, the courts, and the press are not just targets. They’re props. The goal isn’t to fix government. It’s to turn it into a shell—one that can still collect taxes, enforce laws, and declare wars, but no longer serve the people who fund it.
The stakes are no longer just political. They’re existential. Can we still agree on what happened? On what’s real?
Because here’s the brutal truth about every confidence game: it doesn’t end when the lie is exposed. It ends only when the mark walks away. And that is the hardest part—because it requires admitting not just that you were lied to, but that you believed it. That what felt like belonging was, in fact, betrayal.
But if that reckoning doesn’t come—if the spell isn’t broken—the damage won’t stop at the believer’s door. This isn’t just a private illusion. This is a public unraveling. A national hollowing-out of trust, truth, and democracy itself.
And so we must hope—urgently and without illusion—that those caught in the story come to see what it is. That they see the man behind the curtain, the sleight of hand, the fantasy sold as fate.
Because if they don’t, this story won’t end with the emperor having no clothes.
It will end with all of us—every institution, every safeguard, every principle—stripped bare. Not just humiliated, but exposed. Not just misled, but fleeced.
If the con holds, we don’t just lose our shirts.
We lose the republic.

THE AMERICAN CENTURY IS OVER
America Committed Suicide on November 5th, 2024
1. Canada: Fittingly, it was the Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, who declared the official time of death.
"The global economy is fundamentally different today than it was yesterday. The system of global trade anchored on the United States, that Canada has relied on since the end of the 2nd World War—a system that, while not perfect, has helped to deliver prosperity for our country for decades—is over.
Our old relationship of steadily deepening integration with the United States is over.
The eighty-year period when the United States embraced the mantle of global economic leadership—when it forged alliances rooted in trust and mutual respect, and championed the free and open exchange of good and services—is over.
While this is a tragedy, it is also the new reality."
And just like that, the age of American empire, the great Pax Americana, ended.
We cannot overstate what has just happened. It took just 71 days for Donald Trump to wreck the American economy, mortally wound NATO, and destroy the American-led world order.
He did this with the enthusiastic support of the entire Republican party and conservative movement.
He did it with the support of a plurality of American voters.
He did not hide his intentions. He campaigned on them. He made them the central thrust of his election. He told Americans that he would betray our allies and give up our leadership position in the world.
There are only three possible explanations as to why Americans voted for this man:
they wanted what he promised;
they didn’t believe what he promised; or
they didn’t understand what he promised.
Pick whichever rationale you want, because it doesn’t matter. Whatever the reason was, it exposed half of the electorate—the 77 million people who voted for Trump—as either fundamentally unserious, decadent, or weak.
And no empire can survive the degeneration of its people.
2. No Going Back
Understand this: There is no going back.
If, tomorrow, Donald Trump revoked his entire regime of tariffs, it would not matter. It might temporarily delay some economic pain, but the rest of the world now understands that it must move forward without America.
If, tomorrow, Donald Trump abandoned his quest to annex Greenland and committed himself to the defense of Ukraine and the perpetuation of NATO, it would not matter. The free world now understands that its long-term security plans must be made with the understanding that America is a potential adversary, not an ally.
This realization may be painful for Americans. But we should know that the rest of the world understands us more clearly than we understand ourselves.
Vladimir Putin bet his life that American voters would be weak and decadent enough to return Donald Trump to the presidency. He was right.
Europeans are moving ahead with their own security plans because they realize, as a French minister put it, “We cannot leave the security of Europe in the hands of voters in Wisconsin every four years.” He was right.
The Canadian prime minister declared the age of American leadership over. He was right.
Instead of arguing with this reality, or denying it, we should face it.
It’s bad enough being a failing empire. Let’s not also be a delusional failing empire. Let’s at least have some dignity about our situation.
The world will move on without us.
Economically this means that international trade will reorganize without the United States as the central hub. Relationships will be forged without concern as to our preferences. The dollar may well be displaced as the world’s reserve currency. American innovation will depart for other shores as the best and brightest choose to make their lives in countries where the rule of law is solid, secret police do not disappear people from the streets, and the government does not discourage research and make economic war on universities.
There’s a reason why countries like Belarus and El Salvador aren’t tech hubs.
All of this will mean slower growth at home and declining economic mobility. The pie will shrink and people will become more desperate to hold on to their slices.
If you want a small preview, look at what has happened to the British economy since Brexit.
The drag we experience will be much greater, because we had much further to fall.
In the security space, Europe will organize apart from us. The Europeans will create a separate nuclear umbrella and will likely include Canada, Japan, and Australia in their alliance. The “free world” as we have understood it for the entirety of our lifetimes will no longer include America.
As a result, America will either drift, or find itself becoming more closely allied with the world’s authoritarians. We may become closer with Putin’s Russia or Xi’s China. We may find that we need them—Russia as a counterweight to democratic Europe and China as a source of cheap manufacturing to relieve some of the price pressure on American consumers.
The end of the American era doesn’t mean everything will become chaos overnight. We aren’t going to wake up tomorrow to the sound of the blaring war rig horn from Mad Max. We are still a rich country, with momentum carrying us forward. But in ways that will soon be perceptible and eventually be undeniable, things will get worse. And facts about America and the world that we have taken for granted since the end of the Second World War will no longer hold true.
3. Idiots
On the day that Trump’s tariffs collapsed America’s position in the world, Secretary of State Marco Rubio went to Brussels to demand that NATO allies increase defense spending to 5 percent of their budgets.
But here is how utterly stupid and unserious our government is:
Europe is going to rearm. And they are going to do so by building up their internal defense industries so that they do not have to rely on America, which is in the process of threatening military action against a NATO member.
And the American response to this has been to cry foul.
U.S. officials have told European allies they want them to keep buying American-made arms, amid recent moves by the European Union to limit U.S. manufacturers’ participation in weapons tenders, five sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The messages delivered by Washington in recent weeks come as the EU takes steps to boost Europe's weapons industry, while potentially limiting purchases of certain types of U.S. arms.
Our government thinks it can simultaneously:
demand that Europe re-arm;
threaten our European allies with territorial annexation; and
demand that Europe buy American weapons.
We have a deeply stupid government—from our economically illiterate president to our craven and foolish secretary of state, from the freelancing billionaire dilettante who is gutting American soft power to the vaccine-denying health secretary who is firing as much talent as he can. From the senior economics advisor who thinks comic books are good investments, to the senators who voted to confirm this cabinet of hacks, to the representatives who stumble over themselves justifying each new inane MAGA pronouncement.
But also, we have the government we deserve.
The American age is over. And it ended because the American people were no longer worthy of it."

Update regarding the Guardians of Azuma Earth Dancer Edition goodies
The letter posted below was shared by official Marvelous USA social media accounts:

For those with any issue with reading the text in the image, the text has been transcribed below:
I'd like to share an update with our fans in the Americas. Like othre companies that deal with an international supply chain, the uncertainy of the tariffs situation is creating havoc on our production schedules and there is a chance that the premium "Earth Dancer Edition" of our upcoming Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma release may not be ready in time for the game's worldwide June 5th release.
Specifically, the 'sensu' folding fan is done but has been stuck at our supplier's factory in China for a couple weeks. Trying to bring it over now with the effective tariff rate will cost unanticipated fees totaling over 20% of the suggested selling price, largely due to this item being the most expensive component we have ever produced (with the exception of a figure going into a collector's edition). We cannot pay those fees, and trying to pass the cost on to fans who already pre-ordered at a set price is also unacceptable to us.
In case anyone is wondering why a fan steeped in Japanese tradition is made in China: This is because that was the only option available to us when we started this process almost a year ago, when we were told there was not a sensu manufacturer in Japan that could create our custom fan at the quantities that we needed. Instead, we imported authentic Japanese 'washi' paper to a facility in China where they would be assembled using a labor-intensive process.
There is still a chance that the goods could make it in time for a launch and this message worries everyone for no reason, but I prefer to be open and transparent with our community. Even if the tariffs are reduced or elminated tomorrow, there could be a huge backlog of product in similar situation as ours. What that means is that what would usually haven taken only a day to clear US customs could take weeks - that is how uncertain things are right now with our already delayed schedule.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation and be prepared to provide the product as quickly as possible (such as bringing the sensu fans by air rather than the much more economical ocean freight). We thank you for your support and understanding if even our best efforts still result in a delay.
Ken Berry President, Marvelous USA.
