this is such a fascinating concept! i wonder if someone obscure-ish could work somehow, like Ulysses from Fallout: New Vegas's Lonesome Road DLC?

I’ve given up attempting to start any sort of chronological thread to my art, so!

Chaye used to be close with Ulysses before they got shot, and before the destruction of Hopeville. He was like an older brother to them, and a lot of their bond sparked from having lost their previous families.

They don’t remember him after being shot, but they have vague memories like this one, where his features aren’t entirely there anymore.

Regarding Lonesome Road: I found it really hard for me to care about Ulysses' story when I actually met the guy. All the mystery from piecing together his journey throughout the other DLCs was pretty compelling, but I had a hard time getting into his backstory on how I, Courier Six, unknowingly delivered a device that blew up his new home many years ago. I just felt really disconnected from it considering that I, the player, never personally took part in that. I was simply told that I did a long time ago even though up until then, Courier Six's backstory was entirely up to my own interpretation, so it felt kind of forced. All I thought was "Dude, according to you I didn't do it on purpose so why are you acting like I did? Sucks that your home got blown up, but get over yourself you drama queen"

VERY late entry for Ulysses Week's prompt "the divide". Lyrics are from Autopsy Garland by the Mountain Goats. I have a project for fnv planned involving the whole song, but I couldn't get this concept for an alternate Ulysses thing for these lyrics out of my head. I love Ulysses and the divide very much. >24 hours of drawing on this one.

obsidian had to make ulysses an antagonistic character becuase they knew he and the courier would be unstoppable as besties. Like they'd be the emo cowboy ryan and sharpay evans the mojave never asked for but gets anyway. those two traumatized, plot armored to the teeth mailmen would win the battle of hoover dam armed with flagpoles and the power of friendship as a drunken sidequest just to graffiti it and divert the power to small blossoming towns across the mojave.

After the battle, Ulysses would say some shit like "the bear and the bull could not be trusted with this old world relic, as they do not seek to learn from such relics, rather they wallow in them and use them as weapons against their neighbors and community. we must defend this relic from those who seek to use it only in that capacity," and then courier 6 would be like, "yeah, man. so true. wanna watch me do a sick backflip off the side of the dam i wont break my neck this time i promise,"
