Hello may I ask if you have any tips or idk ideas for a bonding ritual with spirit companions? I'm not good at astral projection and I get low spoons quite often.

Hello! As a fellow spoonie, I know this very well. I love doing spirit work and helping those seek companions. At the same time, it takes a toll so as a beginner, it can be rough. Imma do my best to explain and I felt it was good to get to this post as there may be others in the same rickety boat. So let us peddle forth!

On my witchy blog, I wrote a post about keeping a bonding journal. You could think of this as like a log of all the stuff you do with your companions. I also go into detail things you can do to make things interesting and I’ll copy/paste that part here:

Find out who needs more attention. Chances are, you have some that are not as strong as others so you might not know they need the attention. Keep in mind that, especially for those that have mixed Arts in their Keep, they’re not going to tell you right away, if at all. it’s important for you to check periodically for this so that no one gets left behind.

Make a list of names and then randomize it. Initially, I took the names of those in need of more attention and made that a separate list from the others and randomized both. then combined the more attention with the rest. Whatever system works for you and yours, do that. Teamwork!

Schedule in the time. whether it’s one day or one week, you should start with what they want. As time goes on, you can adjust. For me, I started right after the New Year with giving a single spirit a whole week. That got boring and it would take me years to finish so we adjusted to 3-4 spirits a day randomly chosen.

Individual vs. Teams. Depending on how big your Keep is, you may want to work in groups or teams. Say, for instance, you have a few divination spirits. Work with those few for however long you feel you can allot.

If you’re still new, then this should be easy to do with a few companions. As your spirit family grows, you’ll want to make adjustments in the event it gets really big and you don’t want to forget anyone. I work in teams unless I need someone very specific. I also have a ginormous family so teams are better for me. Find your groove and roll with it!

I also made a post about leaving offerings. This is a basic post, mind you. I haven’t covered things like bodily fluids and things like that, but I will for those that have darker companions. I have a few demons in my keep so I take into consideration their likes as well. 

I know a lot of people starting out have the struggle of astral projection, but don’t be discouraged. Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that jazz and you also have to remember to work within your limitations. I do pretty much all my traveling when I’m sleeping and when I wake in the morning, I feel like fight club. If this happens to you, there is a chance that this may have happened and don’t feel bad if you can’t remember. Brain farting on the details, I feel, is normal. Allow yourself to open to what your companions can tell you and if a thought comes to mind of an event, ask them using your pendulum or other means of communication. If you don’t want to keep doing this in the dream state, meditation is a good way to find your center, bring peace and calm into the moment and wonder if it’s really been 5 mins since you started sitting there like a moron X3 open yourself to letting your spirits reach out. When we’re awake, our minds are buzzing with thoughts and awareness and we’re so alert to the physical world around us that the metaphysical can sometimes have a hard time reaching through. This doesn’t make you a bad person. You’re just used to the way you’ve been living. But, don’t make so sudden a change that you’ll say “F this” and forget it all. Patience was made into a virtue for a reason. If you can think of patience as money being earned, it’s money being earned towards the greater thing that is being able to really communicate with your companions. (Too bad it can’t pay our bills, huh lol). Going back to the bonding journal topic just a bit, scheduling time for meditation can be a part of that process. 5 mins doesn’t sound like much, but when I tell you that 10 mins can feel like an eternity, baby steps of 3-5 mins a session is better off when you’re starting out. Also, be sure to inform any and all in your home not to disturb you during this time. 

This is a section for resources I use myself and feel are good for others, including some exercises I’m working on. Give them a whirl and hopefully I’ll have the other seasons posted in the exercise section.

Telepathy, I know, can be hard, too. As a kid, I’d talk to myself all the time so I still think I’m crazy XD have to pause and remember if it was in my voice or in a completely different tone. I talk to a lot of my males so that totally helps! Try that and see if it helps. If all you have are females, try to listen for the different tones.

Another thing you can try is working on touch. Safe places to touch are the face and arms. Faeries can hug you nose while others can grip your forearm so hard that it hurts, but they don’t mean it. It’s just their energy. 

Sound and smell are also good ways to see who’s with you. I have a few that only reach out using these and maybe your companions might prefer that. If you know you don’t have perfume in that scent or nothing in your home makes that noise at the moment, maybe it’s them trying to say hello :)

Grounding is always important and this is really more for you, as the keeper, because your health is important. When we communicate, it’s kinda like how it is on shows like Ghost Adventures. Your companions may have to rely on your direct energy to communicate and they don’t mean to drain you. It’s just how the exchange works at times. I recently posted a series of visualization on how to ground in Nature. If you live in an area with very little connection to Nature, this will be your bff. We can sometimes forget that we need to recharge and cleanse ourselves, that we get muddled by the everyday just by commuting to school or work. I totally plead the 5th on being a workaholic. If it’s not the muggle job, it’s my shop or here or the other projects I was insane to take on, but that’s life and we deal. Just make sure that you take care of yourself before you take care of others or all you do may be futile. Our companions and guides are very understanding in all this and they can be patient when you’re not feeling 100%. Especially if you want to try anything, maybe do a mini grounding before hand if you are truly low on spoon. Nature can provide what energy she can give you to do what you need to as long as you can take it properly and be thankful to her gifts. 

I look back at this entry and think “I may have gone overboard just a little bit... ^^;” But safety is important! And so is self care and awareness. These are all things I’ve done myself and neither I nor any companions have gotten harmed in the making of any of these things. And remember that these are just suggestions and ideas. You can totally adjust them to be more suited to your needs and the needs of your companions.
