“Tell me something about yourself that not many people know.”

“What's this?” he asks, voice laced with amusement.

“Just answer me, ‘tsuya.” you grumble, head lolling over the side of the bed you're currently spread out on, peering at his upside down figure. “I'm bored.”

Mitsuya hums thoughtfully, pen tapping against the table absentmindedly. Both your homeworks lay abandoned on his table, you having already given up a long time ago and pestering him to do the same, despite his best efforts to stay focused and finish them.

“I have a dragon tattoo on the side of my head.” he says casually.

“WHAT?????” you leap up from your spread-eagle position to gape at him properly. His lips curl into an impish grin at your reaction, the sight sending butterflies flying through your stomach. You swat them away in favour of focusing on the more pressing matter at hand. 

“Yeah.” His hand comes up to tap at the right side of his head. “Right here.”

You scramble off the bed, nearly tripping over yourself as you rush to his side. “Whaaat the fuck. You're the last person I'd expect to ever have a tattoo.” you say as you pull up your chair next to him, plopping down on it.

He huffs in amusement. “I am in a gang, y'know.” 

“I know, but you're like, more well behaved compared to them.” You pause, peering at his face suspiciously. “...right?”

A mischievous smile is all you get in response.

Rolling your eyes, you turn your attention back to the side of his head, peering closely at the short lilac hair, trying to catch a glimpse of the tattoo. You can't see anything, though, due to all the hair fully covering it.

“Can I…?” you raise your hand hesitantly. He nods, grabbing your wrist and bringing it to where the tattoo supposedly lies, the warm touch sending sparks flying through your skin.

Carefully, your fingers gently part his hair to reveal the scalp below. The slight shiver as your fingers make contact with his head doesn't go unnoticed by you, although none of you say a word.

And there, under the lilac strands, you catch glimpses of furling strands of black ink, coiling and curling into something resembling—

“A dragon?” you murmur.

Mitsuya hums. “Mhm. I designed it myself. Cool, huh?” You can hear the pride in his voice.

You snort, not wanting to give him the satisfaction. “I suppose.” Following the strands of ink, you trace down the side of his scalp, mesmerized by the intricate design. Despite your seemingly unimpressed response, you found the tattoo really beautiful, the art style unique and artistic, the way it curves along the side of Mitsuya's head so naturally you wouldn't be surprised if he said he was born with it. Lost in your concentration, you don't notice Mitsuya's slowly reddening cheeks, closing his eyes as his head subconsciously leans into your gentle touch.

The two of you stay like that for a while, in comfortable silence, him enjoying your ministrations, you too absorbed in admiring every detail of the tattoo to notice. 

Until you trace the final curl of the dragon's tail, the trail ending making you snap out of whatever trance you were in, face immediately flushing a deep red as you realized you probably spent way more time touching him than you should've. Your hand instantly jolts back from his head as if it touched hot iron. At the loss of your touch, Mitsuya's eyes slowly fluttered open, gazing lazily at you, the sight once again sending some weird, hot feeling shooting through you. Damn this man and his stupidly pretty face.

You clear your throat, trying to act natural. “Why have a tattoo when you can't even see it under all that hair, though?” 

That question catches him off guard, and he barks out a laugh. “There's a funny story behind it, actually.”

He goes on to tell you the story of how he got the tattoo, from meeting this boy called Draken, to playing games at the brothel, to deciding to become a delinquent and accidentally matching tattoos with Draken. Your jaw dropped more and more as the story progressed, mostly from how unexpected and wild the entire thing was.

“Damn.” you laugh when he finishes. “And here I thought you were this good, well-behaved child who got roped into the gang business by their friends. I mean, abandoning your sisters to graffiti a wall?” you shake your head in mock disapproval. “What a bad child you are.” 

His lips stretch into a sly grin, something dangerous glinting in his eyes. “Oh? Really, [name], you should've known by now.”

He leans forward until his lips are right by your ear, voice coming out in a teasing whisper.

“I can get quite naughty sometimes.” 

...

You're quite certain your face is in flames. 

You sit there, short-circuiting, as Mitsuya leans back into his chair, a self-satisfied smirk on his face. Fumbling, you glance around desperately from something that will save you, and your eyes land on the abandoned exercise books on the table, the whole reason you were at Mitsuya's house in the first place. 

“Oh! Would you look at that! Our homework! That we still have to finish!” You pull your chair back to the other side of the table hurriedly and bury your face in the books, your homework suddenly being the most interesting thing in the world. You hear him chuckle, but he doesn't say anything, picking up his pen and continuing with his work. Your heart finally stops racing, and you think that you're safe until—

“[name]?”

“Hm?”

“I enjoyed that very much. Feel free to do it again if you want~”

“...”

★ SYMBOLIC ANIMALS FOR THIRTEEN, MEPHISTOPHELES AND RAPHAEL

I have decided to share my headcanons on the symbolic animals for the new trio. Don't forget to reblog if you find this interesting or want to share your opinion!

★ THIRTEEN

× Death's-head hawkmoth: No doubts about this one, I think it fits her character perfectly: moths are often associated with the afterlife (as they are attracted to the light, and when someone passes away, they are said to "go into the light"). And the skull on its back and the colour of its wings fit with many details of Thirteen's character design (the skull tattoo, the yellow nail polish and the hair tie with butterflies/moths)

★ RAPHAEL

× Lynx: "If not friend, why friend shaped?" I say to myself every time I see a lynx with its fluffy paws! And I think this cute yet fierce feline fits Raphael, who has a calm yet strict attitude and does not hesitate to draw his spear when he deems it necessary. Speaking of symbolism, lynxes are often associated with mystery, secrets and intuition. I have also read that lynxes are sometimes seen as "messengers of the spirit world" but I haven't found anything concrete about this.

Fun fact! There is a scientific institution called ‘Accademia dei Lincei’ and apparently its (original?) emblem had a lynx fighting Cerberus. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any pictures…

× Harpy Eagle: I made this association mainly because of the large and powerful talons of this eagle, as a reference for Raphael's spears. Besides, the feathers on the head match the colour of the angel's hair, don't you think?

★ MEPHISTOPHELES

× Horse: Yes, I know it's a bit cliché at this point, but based on its symbolism, Mephisto being represented by a horse isn't necessarily wrong, after all horses are associated with strength, power, nobility and "readiness to act for one's country". I haven't thought of any particular horse breed, perhaps a Thoroughbred?

My only complaint would be that we already have a unicorn as a symbolic animal for Satan (even if it doesn't make much sense) and Lucifer has his winged unicorn onesie. I think Mephisto deserves to have something more unique.

× Swan: An alternative I'd like to propose would be a swan, as it is associated with grace, elegance, perfection and nobility. And, as swans mate for life, they also represent devotion and loyalty.

hey, how about a shoryu review? especially considering how loads of people thought they were a cyclops for a while

Shoyru are only one of four (4) different dragon-based Neopets. Out of the three, they’re probably the most mundane—neither gluttonous like Skeiths or as detailed and elegant as Draiks or Scorchios. They also probably have the least dragon-like designs of the group, having a fairly generic body shape with only their clawed wings really pointing to them being draconic.

Visually, the design is pretty simple. They’re mostly solid in color with a darker tip on their feet and the wings, which are slightly more detailed than the rest of them. I do wish the inside of the wings was the darker color of the feet tips, but that’s a minor detail that most people won’t even notice.

In terms of customization, I think the Shoyru benefited from it as a whole. It was in need of a redraw anyway due to its then-current art being pretty dated, and the redesign doesn’t change much. In fact, one thing it does change is giving them actual mitten-like hands instead of stubs, which I’d argue is an improvement. The head is also drawn with more perspective, making it clear that their eyes are just on the sides of their heads and they are not, in fact, cyclops like many people used to misinterpret them.

Favorite Colours:

Wraith: I’ll be honest, a lot of Shoyru colours don’t really stand out to me. I think its because many of their colours were done in the early days of Neopets, when things tended to be lower-effort. That said, I do really like the wraith Shoyru, which has a really lovely shape to its wings that almost feels like a tattoo, and a great expression to match.

Magma: While it’s nothing too fancy, I do like the magma Shoyru a lot, which feels like a formal apology for the underwhelming fire Shoyru. The red-orange wing undersides pop nicely and compliment the eye, while the exposed tail tip is a nice touch.

Faerie: While not the greatest faerie pet ever, I have to give this one a shoutout for the wings, which are basically a Shoyru’s regular wings but doubled up and turned on their side. It gives it a very neat and unique look compared to the standard butterfly wings. I do wish the body had more markings—maybe some speckles to match the wings—but it’s otherwise pretty solid. The converted version is also good, though I wish the wing membranes were just a little darker and the wings a bit bigger overall.

AHH THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! i have so many thoughts i dont know where to begin LMAO ill start with the outfit designs first!!

to start things off, every design has one specific colour in mind to represent that hermit! pearl - blue, gem - green, impulse - yellow, doc - black/gray, and grian - red! (everyone's nails are painted their colour) every design was deliberately punk-inspired, since during the king arc the soup group was a force of resistance against the monarchy's tyranny :P therefore, the soup group are the main focus of the art and their designs are intentionally made so that they stand out more from the other two, though i made sure they were all unique in one aspect or another :] let's go character by character now! (i'm including all my initial design sketches + some inspo photos too)

pearl - she's the lead singer of soup group, along with playing the electric guitar! her design features a double tank top + low rise big pant combo, moon motifs of course, and two distinct shades of blue! The darker one is seen throughout her hair and outfit, while the lighter one in her moth antenna is reflected in her guitar. the main inspiration for her look was avril lavigne, which is also what influenced me to add those fun blue hair streaks :D on her shirt i wanted to have a sort of skeletal moth/butterfly design!!

gem - the keytar! i wanted to make sure that gem and pearl's designs looked very distinct from each other, so i went for a slightly different vibe with gem's! her design is based more off of the plaid skirts, big boots, and fishnet looks i found while looking through early 2000s lip service magazine scans (as well as some hayley williams looks!!) :D additionally, shes got vine tattoos over her body to call back to her nature elf vibe this season!

impulse - the drummer of course!! for his look, i wanted to go a little more anarcho-punk (since its a much older punk style and hes the oldest member of soup group LOL), so his vest jacket has got a bunch of diy additions like patches, pins, paperclips, and chains, along with a bunch of spikes!! in my mind, the back of his jacket has probably got a whole lot more patches, spikes, and studs :] beyond that, i made sure to give him lots of piercings (though my options were limited since s9 impy has a beard lol), and stretched earlobes for fun!! ideally his pants would also have a lot more patches and fun bits, but since his legs would be entirely covered by his drums in the final piece i went for something simpler

doc - an opener and feature on the song! since he's not part of the soup group, his design is quite a bit simpler than the others in terms of both look and concept :] his look is monochrome save for his robotic red parts and green skin, but still looks interesting thanks to that fun leather jacket :D his look is purposefully more reminiscent of a 50's style greaser, i wanted to go for an older fashion style to make him look more intimidating/mature, as well as set him apart from the look of soup group since the perimeter was an independent nation in the king arc!

grian - another feature/opener! design wise? hes literally just green day i can't even lie like the pun was perfect and also the black shirt + red tie combo is iconic and also fits his look so effortlessly it had to be done LMAO also, if you look closely in the final piece you can see he's wearing eyeshadow! this of course is again because hes grian day /silly. but to be real, i think this style also fits him really well since the tie + spikes & studs combo gives the look that sorta rebellious vibe that was all over his videos during the king arc :]

AND NOW FOR THE INSTRUMENTS!! this segment is thankfully much shorter

pearl's guitar is of course a nod to my design for her and her moth wings! butterfly guitars are harder to draw than you'd think LOL

gem's keytar has got a vine design all over it to match her tattoos

impulse's drum set has got the soup group punk band logo! the logo design may honestly be my favourite part of the piece, i feel like i really nailed what i was going for :D

I feel like, at one point, this conversation happened: "Should I wear this T-shirt today? It feels a little underdressed"

"You know, darling, there's a gun underneath my bed. If I ever say no to that question, I want you to use it on me"

He's honestly impressed at your tattoos mostly, but he'd rather die than admit it. He likes tracing them with his fingers after a long day at the trading company. It keeps him calm

His favourite piercing would probably be your nose one. It looks so cute on you, and it's very unique as well. He thinks the earings are a bit excessive, but he would never tell you to take them off

If you manage to get him an ear pierce on one ear, there's basically nothing you can't do. Once you achieved the impossible, anything is probable

Overall 8/10

He likes kissing any place where you have your piercings, so your ears, nose, and bellybutton. He would probably get a tattoo as well, but maybe a small one. Probably a butterfly on his hand or a flower on his finger

Also likes tracing your tattoos. He wants to know the thought process in getting them, like were you drunk or high? No? Oh okay

He asks if they hurt when you got them. If you said yeah, he would give extra love and attention to those areas until you feel better :)

He can't help but stare at them, his princess looks so strong! With a straight face, you'd look intimidating, but he knows you're his little bunny

Overall 11/10 because I love him a lot

Tattoos Sugaya I think would have the most, full sleeves and his whole back and chest done. I had a friend, also an artist, who only did black and white tattoos because they aged better and if she was bored, she could color them in temporarily. I totally see Sugaya being that way too, and whoever his significant other ends up being would probably get a kick out of it. XD Nakamura has a tramp stamp and maybe a few other small ones like a ladybug next to a galaxy or something random, but also unique and somewhat mesmerizing. Maehara has at least two, one he really regrets while he was drunk, and one he worships more than anything. I don't think Nagisa ever would (unless Karma got him drunk enough one night and Nagisa would probably hate him for it) but I love the idea that he has one of those massive tattoos of a snake wrapped around his side, across the back, and then under him arm going up around the shoulder. He'd look so badass! But I don't think he's inherently a tattoo guy. Karma probably only has one and he makes it sound like it was a random last second decision, but it actually means a lot to him. And it's in a secret, well hidden place that only the highest caliber of SOs get to see. 😏 Chiba. I can see him rocking a sleeve. Probably a dragon, a play on his name, but I can also see some random ones of various art. Also, he strikes me as the guy that would write a song for a girl (Hayami) and then get the sheet music of a part of it on his back right over where his heart is. 💙 Maehara convinces Isogai to get one for his father. This is probably the one Maehara has too, because I totally hc that he likes Isogai's dad deeply as well. Kimura has one or two. He was peer pressured. He doesn't hate them though. Maybe one is a Flash symbol and the other is a running rabbit or something. Both related to his speed. Kurahashi totally has a butterfly or 30 somewhere on her body. XD Kanzaki. Still trying to be defiant… I imagine she regrets it though and later has it removed. Hayami. I think she has one she secretly dedicates to Chiba, but explains it as something else. It's a sight (like when you look through the scope) on her back and it's placed over her heart like Chiba's sheet music for her. 💙💙 I will die with this ship. I think Terasaka tried to get a sleeve done, but he didn't know what to put on it and just picked random stuff and gave up halfway through. He likes it all, but there isn't much of a story behind any of it. Yoshida has a back tattoo of something important to him. I'm not entirely sure what, but I imagine it's mostly black and white with some red highlights in just the right places. And it's a massive tattoo, the largest of anyone else's. Probably had Sugaya design it. Muramatsu caved and got a tattoo of his favorite noodle dish. It's really small and probably somewhere like on the back of his hand so he can easily show it off. He thought it was cool, okay? Itona I think has a few, but they're random and spread out. They're all meaningful though, and in some form or fashion represent strength. Fuwa has a tattoo or two of a notorious symbol from One Piece. I haven't seen the anime, but something as prominent as Luffy's hat.

Bonus! Ren has a single piercing and a few tattoos on his arms. Seo got his ears pierced, one of which got infected and closed up, and then he didn't want to put it in the wrong ear and be considered gay, so he never wore anything. Argues it's what all the cool Americans do. XD He also has a stupid tattoo or two. Or five. He regrets all of them, but refuses to get them removed. Koyama is most likely to have the long extravagant anime piece, probably something from Hayao Miyazaki's films, like Howl's, tattooed around his leg. He's very proud of it. Araki has a tattoo he also greatly regrets. He got it because of Seo. XD Shuu wouldn't dare sully his body my making such unnecessary modifications to it. You would be idiotic to think he would. XD

Zhongpei

Careful, this flirty cutie packs a mean punch!

This set is amazing on so many levels. This fig maker's designs always lean towards saucy, and this is no exception!

The name of the fig set refers to the Junzhe Extended Universe pairing of Zhong Wumei and Pei Yuntian.

Gong Jun plays Prince Zhong Wumei in Unique Lady. Here he is dressed as a beautiful young woman in order to lure out and capture some evildoers.

This clip is hilarious and has the bonus of being English subbed. It's definitely worth watching!

The imperial doctor Pei Yuntian is Zhang Zhehan's character from Cosmetology High.

The title listing of this video calls him a cute and handsome little villain! I didn't realize he was a bad guy here, I thought he was just a palace schemer. I definitely need to watch this.

Our sassy figs came carefully packaged in their custom polystyrene foam. Luckily, they arrived perfect! I was a bit worried that Wumei's gorgeous hair ornaments might not survive the trip, but thankfully they did.

The fig maker also included a sticker sheet! This was supposed to be a special first-in gift for the first set of buyers (which I was not), but people were so upset to miss the leg hair that she included them for everyone.

We have some different thicknesses of leg hair - from the top (MTL) is "ordinary short", "low profile short", and "wild long section". Outstanding. We also have some great other stickers that are definitely very multipurpose for Junzhe figs!

These aren't regular stickers like I'm used to. They are backwards, like transfers, and there's a clear protector sheet over them you have to peel off. I tried press-sticking one on Wumei, but it didn't seem to work.

Thankfully, my best fig friend helped me out here with her quality advice. These are water stickers, which means they are like temporary tattoos - you get them wet, and then stick them on the fig, and then after a bit you gently peel off the backing. I would never have puzzled this out!

Alright, before we start with Wumei, let's get a still of this fantastic look for comparison purposes...

Gong Jun is stunning dressed as a woman. Beautiful people are just beautiful! I can't help remembering how one of the interviewers at the SHL concert had previously gushed to Gong Jun about how pretty he was dressed up as a woman (and ahaha, Zhehan's face during their concert interview segment!). May I just also note how gorgeous his fingers are here.

Our extremely flirty prince came with a very saucy fan that is not the fan in the still above! You can see it if you zoom in, but fair warning if you're on public transportation or something, it's very scantily clad chibis having a grand ol' time together (it's only like 2 fire emojis on the Fig Spice-o-meter scale, but still nothing I'd zoom in on a crowded bus while an all-too-curious seat mate looked on, for instance). I was going to take a closeup of it for you, but I ran way out of picture space. There's some closer pictures below you can zoom in on.

Here he is, all coy and delicate and flashing some leg. A very smooth skinned leg, without even "low profile short" hair, as these photos were taken before BFF help. Never fret, loyal figthusiasts, keep on scrolling!

Two leggies! And a great look at the hairstyle. That butterfly pin is so pretty.

And here we go - a full shot of the beautiful pin and the hanging ornament off of it. So pretty! Wumei likes to pull his hair over his shoulder and stroke it playfully when acting flirty, so here we have his hair over his shoulder.

You can see a bit of the very complex piles of hair that Wumei is wearing in the still. You'll also notice he seems to be leaning pretty aggressively over to the side, which is by design, as he's putting up his dress.

This full back view really shows the hair in it's complicated glory!

Ooh, this is a good shot of one of his earrings. They are clip-ons in the show.

I flipped the fan over here so you could see the other side is a plain gold. If you can't have frolicking chibis in the house, this is a very pretty look too!

He is wearing frilly knickers! I am just so delighted by this fig, I can't even tell you.

The hands are just beautifully molded on these figs - really great detail. I love the bit of a cat-eye line he has going on at the corner of his eyes here.

I like the nice wide sleeves. I haven't seen this show, but I have seen a lot of Pei Yuntian figs, and this outfit is pretty classic.

Speaking of classic, the rabbit-ear hat is the same on every fig so far! It's very distinctive.

I assume this is a herb-gathering basket, just given that he's a doctor in the show. However, like I said, I haven't seen it, so take this with an enormous chunk of salt.

I regret photographing this on a white background! I should have done it on a colorful one so you could see the detail better.

It's a pretty outfit though. Very billowy and a pearly white, which gives it some nice visual interest. This fig maker likes pearlescent paints on her figs.

Look at that blush! Too cute - the eyes here are just wonderful.

Much plainer here on the underside for Pei Yuntian. Yikes, I really am almost out of picture allowance!

AHAHAHAHAHA. I'm back here to report on the leg hair water transfer sticker and it is FANtastic.

First off, major credit to my BFF, the water transfer worked perfectly. I cut out the stickers, peeled off the protective plastic, grabbed an end with a tweezers, and ran it under water. I stuck it on the leg and kind of tapped it around. I didn't even have to wait, I just peeled it off!

This is actually three of the "low-profile short", since I put one on right in the middle and it looked a little patchy. So I did one above and below, and here's the result! I picked the lo-pro since we are just fresh off of Gong Jun's Cosmo Body Issue mag shoot, and well, he's very well groomed, so I had that in my head when I picked.

I am now maybe kinda regretting not going with the "wild and long", but I'm really happy with it! I actually burst out laughing when I took off the last sticker, it's hilariously funny and I couldn't stop chuckling as I took this picture! Now I wish I had done this before taking all the pics, but this one is good enough. Hehehe, I'm still giggling to myself!

I love it SO MUCH, it's ridiculous and silly and perfect!

This set actually came with a printed box with the same artwork, but I'm all out of picture space! It's just the same artwork on the box card, nothing different.

favorite design motif :)

generally, i like when designs just. HAVE a cohesive motif, it's generally really cool to see how people incorporate stuff into character designs in unique ways. it very much annoys me however when characters are supposed to have a certain motif but looking at them you'd just. never be able to tell-

like take seele from honkai star rail for example. i love her design, but just by looking at it it's very hard to tell she's supposed to have a butterfly motif unless you like. actively are trying to find butterfly-esque shapes in her outfit (plus she has a couple of back tattoos of butterflys, but that's about it-)

her splash art makes it a bit more clear what they were going for, but like. 99% of the time in game she does not look like that so i still think the design itself is a bit lacking in that department (still a banger design regardless though)
