Urea—the main component of human urine—plays an important role in the timing of maturation of sharks, rays and other cartilaginous fish. A new study by researchers with the Sea Around Us initiative at the University of British Columbia's Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries has found that high urea concentrations common in cartilaginous fish, particularly oviparous marine species, allow them to mature and begin to reproduce at a larger fraction of their maximal size. The work is published in the journal Environmental Biology of Fishes.

I reckon a proficient fertiliser trader should stay updated on commodity prices and trends. Wheat, soya, and corn are displayed on my second screen.
So, a few reflections on last week's corn fluctuations. This past Friday, corn at CBOT surpassed a psychologically significant level of $4.00 per bushel, concluding the week at $3.99 per bushel. This marks the first time since November 2020, and it's happened relatively fast: at the end of October 2022, corn cost $7.00 per bushel!
However, I'd like to highlight a couple of crucial points:
- $4 in 2022 doesn't carry the same purchasing power as $4 in 2020.
- Let's compare the prices of fertilisers now and in November 2020 (the first number corresponds to 2020):
NOLA UREA $224 vs $346
NOLA UAN $125 vs $257
NOLA DAP $351 vs $560
AG UREA $259 vs $380
EGYPT UREA $252 vs $400
Furthermore, consider the fact that the net position of funds in corn is showing the largest negative number in the past 12 years - 340,742 sales contracts.
It seems like there's little hope for corn price recovery, but fertiliser prices continue to hold steady. Nonetheless, one way or another, something ought to change. And in my personal opinion (which may be wrong, of course) - fertiliser price correction would happen rather soon this spring.

Very long time ago… This is a photo from the beginning of my work as a future/would-be mycologist. By the color of the test tubes, you can easily see that we are dealing with a medium with urea. In bacteriology, the urea hydrolysis test is used routinely for almost all bacteria. In turn, in the case of dermatophytes, although it is a differentiating feature, it usually gives unexpected results. By accident I managed (them) to get quite a nice color gradient from yellow (which doesn't happen often) to very pink (fuchsia/bishop color). And the culprit was Trichophyton verrucosum, which according to the literature should be urea positive. This yellow color (i.e. the opposite of the intended effect) is due to the fact that this strain of T. verrucosum very quickly used up a small amount of dextrose in the medium, which acidified the medium so much that the phenol red from a slightly orange color turned yellow. In general, we all use the term Christensen's medium, but every lab's composition is a little different. Note that there is such a thing as Stuart's medium for detecting urease, and it is not much different from Christiansen's medium. Virtually every laboratory uses a combination of these media so as not to add dextrose but at the same time the medium is "rich" enough for other microbes to grow on it. Hence, there are often considerable discrepancies - especially in mycology. Believe it or not, the same strain that gives a typical positive result in lab A will give +/- or the opposite in lab B.

One day there was a farmer who was really stressed because none of his crops were growing very well, he decided to get a soil quality test done to see which nutrients his soil was lacking, his results came back, nitrogen was the macronutrient missing, the farmer thought and thought about how he could fix his problem, finally he exclaimed "Urea, that's it" as he figured out a solution
This joke is dedicated to my sister @stardustto-dust because she gave it an 8 out of 10

Cheers for this magical record!
China amsul exported 2.09 million tons in Aug, 2024.
Total export quantity from Jan to Aug reached 10.03 million tons, 1.5 million tons more than same period last year. China ammonium sulfate export made new records again!
15 years ago, ammonium sulphate as Environmental by-product from steel factories, caprolactam factories, chemical factories and so on, total exported quantity was very small. Large scale companies barely do this business. They focused on urea, phosphate fertilizer, compound fertilizer, and some other large quantity fertilizers.
With production capacity increase of ammonium sulfate in China, the export quantity increased year by year, covered more than 70% production capacity in global market. China amsul play very important role in international nitrogen market.
However, the market got change along with CIQ from China government, which China are not able to export large quantity of Urea, phosphate and NPK. some companies have to do ammonium sulphate business.
In 2021, China amsul export quantity reached 10 million tons, made big surprise for fertilizer traders and distributors. Many big companies turn around to do ammonium sulphate business. specially some national big companies spent a lot of money to build new production line of Granular ammonium sulphate.
Since I started to do ammonium sulfate business in 2011, I have honor to witness gradual increase of China ammonium sulfate export and every important moment.
Before: mainly ammonium sulphate business was amsul steel grade powder and amsul standard crystal, package in 50kg or 25kg, granular ammonium sulphate was not very popular, due to dust and caking issue. Delivery way mainly by containers, or some small vessel, such as 10KMT ~3KMT and combine with other fertilizers.
Now: mainly amsul business was Granular ammonium sulphate and standard amsul , granular amsul much poplular than crystal amsul, because average quality increased a lot. Package in Bulk or 1250KG Jumbo bag. Bulk shipments are very common, max vessel more than 80KMT. BBV as second popular way. Only very small quantity be shipped by containers.
No matter how the market change and ammonium sulfate industry develop. As a member of the ammonium sulfate industry, we have never given up the pursuit of quality, cherish relationship with customers always and develop together.

Urea Prices | Pricing | Price | News | Database | Chart | Forecast
Urea prices have experienced significant fluctuations in recent years, reflecting the complex interplay of global market dynamics, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical events. Urea, a vital component in agricultural fertilizers, is essential for enhancing crop yields and ensuring food security. As a nitrogen-rich compound, its demand is closely tied to agricultural productivity, making price trends a crucial concern for farmers, agricultural businesses, and policy-makers alike. Understanding the factors that drive urea prices is essential for stakeholders in the agricultural sector to navigate market uncertainties effectively.
One of the primary drivers of urea prices is the cost of raw materials and production. Urea is synthesized from ammonia and carbon dioxide, and fluctuations in the prices of these feedstocks can directly impact urea costs. For instance, natural gas prices play a significant role in ammonia production, which, in turn, influences urea manufacturing costs. When natural gas prices rise, production costs for ammonia and, consequently, urea increase, leading to higher urea prices in the market. Conversely, a decline in natural gas prices can reduce production costs and result in lower urea prices.

Another critical factor influencing urea prices is global supply and demand dynamics. Urea is produced in various regions around the world, and regional production capacities can impact global supply levels. For example, disruptions in major urea-producing countries or changes in production capacities can create supply shortages or surpluses, affecting global prices. Additionally, demand for urea is influenced by agricultural practices, crop planting patterns, and the overall health of the agricultural sector. In times of high crop production and increased fertilizer usage, urea demand may surge, pushing prices higher. Conversely, reduced agricultural activity or changes in crop production patterns can lead to decreased demand and lower prices.
Geopolitical events and trade policies also play a significant role in shaping urea prices. International trade agreements, tariffs, and sanctions can impact the flow of urea across borders, influencing market prices. For instance, trade restrictions or export bans imposed by major urea-producing countries can reduce global supply and drive up prices. Conversely, favorable trade conditions and increased import-export activity can help stabilize or lower prices. Additionally, geopolitical tensions or conflicts in key production regions can disrupt supply chains and lead to price volatility in the global urea market.
Economic conditions and currency fluctuations are other critical factors affecting urea prices. Economic instability or fluctuations in currency exchange rates can influence the cost of importing and exporting urea. For example, a strong domestic currency can make urea imports cheaper, while a weaker currency may increase import costs and drive up prices. Similarly, economic conditions in major urea-consuming regions can affect demand and pricing. In times of economic growth, increased agricultural investment and crop production can lead to higher urea demand and prices. Conversely, economic downturns may reduce agricultural activity and lead to lower prices.
Environmental regulations and sustainability concerns are also increasingly impacting urea prices. Governments and regulatory bodies are implementing stricter environmental policies and sustainability practices in agriculture. These regulations can affect urea production processes, potentially increasing production costs. For instance, efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or improve fertilizer efficiency may require investments in new technologies or production methods, which can contribute to higher urea prices. Conversely, advancements in sustainable practices or technologies that improve urea efficiency may help mitigate price increases and support price stability.
The urea market is also influenced by speculative activities and market sentiment. Traders and investors often engage in speculative activities based on anticipated price movements, global events, and economic forecasts. Such activities can create short-term price fluctuations and contribute to market volatility. Additionally, market sentiment and expectations about future supply and demand conditions can impact urea prices, as stakeholders react to perceived risks or opportunities in the market.
In conclusion, urea prices are subject to a wide range of influencing factors, including raw material costs, supply and demand dynamics, geopolitical events, economic conditions, environmental regulations, and market sentiment. Understanding these factors and their interactions is essential for stakeholders in the agricultural sector to make informed decisions and navigate the complexities of the urea market effectively. As the global agricultural landscape continues to evolve, staying informed about price trends and market dynamics will be crucial for managing costs, optimizing agricultural practices, and ensuring food security.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are very common, especially among women. Here are some key points about their prevalence:
Incidence Rate:
It is estimated that 50-60% of women will experience at least one UTI in their lifetime.
UTIs are responsible for nearly 8.1 million visits to healthcare providers each year in the United States alone.
Recurrent Infections:
Approximately 20-30% of women who have a UTI will have recurrent infections.
Some women experience chronic UTIs, with several episodes per year.
Risk Factors:
Sexual activity increases the risk of UTIs, and women who are sexually active tend to have more UTIs. ( Know more about- What are symptoms of Sexually Transmitted Diseases? )
Postmenopausal women also have a higher risk due to changes in the urinary tract.
Other factors include pregnancy, certain types of birth control, and a history of UTIs.
Age:
Young, sexually active women are particularly at risk, but older women also face a high risk due to changes in the urinary tract with age.
Anatomical Considerations:
Women are more prone to UTIs than men because their urethra is shorter and closer to the anus, making it easier for bacteria to enter the urinary tract.
Given these points, UTIs are a significant health issue for women, leading to considerable discomfort, healthcare costs, and impact on quality of life.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women are caused primarily by bacteria entering the urinary tract. Several factors contribute to the development of UTIs:
Bacterial Entry:
Escherichia coli (E. coli): The most common cause of UTIs, E. coli bacteria from the gastrointestinal tract often enter the urinary tract through the urethra.
Other Bacteria: Other bacteria such as Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Klebsiella, Proteus, and Enterococcus can also cause UTIs.
Sexual Activity:
Sexual intercourse can introduce bacteria into the urinary tract, increasing the risk of UTIs. Women who are sexually active are more likely to get UTIs.
Anatomical Factors:
The female urethra is shorter and closer to the anus, making it easier for bacteria to enter the urinary tract.
Birth Control Methods:
Certain types of birth control, such as diaphragms and spermicides, can increase the risk of UTIs.
Menopause:
After menopause, lower estrogen levels can lead to changes in the urinary tract, making it more susceptible to infections.
Urinary Tract Abnormalities:
Structural abnormalities or blockages in the urinary tract can impede the flow of urine, leading to bacterial growth and infection.
Immune System Suppression:
A weakened immune system, due to conditions such as diabetes or immunosuppressive medications, can increase the risk of UTIs.
Urinary Catheters:
Use of catheters can introduce bacteria into the urinary tract and increase the risk of infection.
Personal Hygiene Practices:
Poor personal hygiene, such as wiping from back to front after using the toilet, can introduce bacteria to the urethra.
Other Medical Conditions:
Conditions like kidney stones and certain neurological diseases that affect bladder function can increase the risk of UTIs.
Understanding these causes can help in the prevention and management of UTIs in women. Get women health treatments done at best hospitals like Jaslok Hospital Mumbai.

Good morning,
The world continues to live in two parallels: the US market and the rest ;)
DAP barge at $660pst trade - just a $25pst increase since Monday! Why so? Low inventories at the start of the year plus all this mess with import duties, leading to a lack of imports.
Well, let's set the States aside. I was curious to see how Chinese rumours of urea would have influenced the market.
Rumours say:
1. After March 15th, the fresh CIQ can again be applied for. The CIQ timing is 40 working days.
2. All previously submitted applications are no longer valid.
3. The CIQ period:
1) Before April 30th, 2024, 40 working days.
2) Between May 1st and September 30th, 10 working days.
3) Before March 15th, nothing regarding CIQ can be done.
40 working days is 60 calendar days. Thus, no exports are realistically expected until this May. But the market did react yesterday: derivatives for April both traded down in AG and Brazil.
AG at $356 per metric ton and Brazil at $359pmt. And it's like a $20-25pmt discount to the physical asking levels of today.
If I'm not mistaken, the Nitrogen Fertilizer Association of China is meeting today, so grab some 🍿
