Why do you think Makoto using the NWP was the wrong thing to do? The despair states class 77-b were in was objectively bad and self destructive and removing them so they back to normal should be a good thing. Also I wouldn’t say what Makoto is doing with the NWP isn’t more brainwashing, it’s deprogramming.
I've talked a bit about my hatred for NWP and how it is used in DR2 here, but it really comes down to this:
Forcibly removing people's memories to make them better people is not the correct answer.
Forcibly removing people's memories and reverting them back to a previous state and then rewriting over those memories with new ones is not the right answer.
Especially when you take DR3 into account and that Makoto etc. didn't know about the brainwashing video or when the Remnants fell to despair, they're just making best guess scenarios and wiping out all of their time at Hope's Peak, which effectively means they are wiping out their memories of real Chiaki and replacing them with DR2!therapybot!Chiaki, which is NOT the correct answer, no matter how you slice it.
The end of DR3 is very good about this - you don't make people better by removing the bad thing. You don't make things better by removing the memories of your past, even if they're memories you regret or hate or don't want to ever address again ever. Those memories are still there. They're still important.
Removing memories is not an effective or even good way of deprogramming people who are brainwashed.
Makoto's luck kicked into full gear with all the stuff that happened in DR2 and the shutdown and getting the Remnants as we see them in DR3, which is not a result of them having their memories removed. They still have their memories and are able to recover.
And yeah. Brainwashing is maybe a stretch (it's Junko's word for it, after all) - but they are reaching into a group of people's heads and mucking around with their brains and making choices for who they want them to be and how they want them to be that way (no, no, you can't be Remnants, so we will remove everything that led to that development and make you into someone we want by meddling with your brain)....
I hold firm by my idea that Shockwave's time with GHOST is partially to do with why he changed his opinions on the terrans (of course some of it is plot magic, possibly most of it if I'm wrong), because it makes sense to me that Dr Meridian had been tinkering with said mind control technology on Shockwave as a primary test subject. Like. That would be horrible, but it makes sense considering the other shit we saw GHOST and Mandroid pull on cybertronians.
I was gonna rank the sbg main characters and joke about it being an objective ranking and everyone else being morally wrong, but then I realized that no matter how I ranked them, I disagreed. So instead, here's why I love all the characters!
Logan's arc of learning to stand up for himself felt really good. Although I feel the least of a personal connection to him, I respect the hell outta the kid
Taylor is such a fucking sweetheart. The way she always knows the right thing to say melts my heart every time. Her helping calm down Ben specifically is so wholesome bro
Tylor may look like an ass on the surface, but he probably cares most about the others. Also, his impaling has gotta be in the top 5 moments in media that effected me most at the moment
Ben, for me specifically, is kinda relatable as hell. I don't talk about this, but I used to have semi-frequent outbursts as a kid. And having interests that 'don't line up with how you look' also is something I've had quite a bit. Seeing him be such a gentle giant reminds me of the person I hope I am to my friends
Ashlyn's antisocial behavior hits kinda close to home, and She kinda reminds me of a very good friend of mine. I really respect how she's clearly struggling all the time, but still decided to become the leader and keeps the others 'in line'. Also, as someone who does Taekwondo, I love her go-to roundhouse kick -> spinning hook kick combo
Aiden is so fucking unhinged, I love it. He says exactly what he's thinking, does exactly what he wants, and doesn't care about what others think. Even better? When he doesn't. When he decides to not do one of those things, or to even help someone (Ashley), even if it goes against how he'd usually want to act. Because what I love most about him (and why he just might be my favorite character), is that deep down, he really does care about these people more than anything
(Sidenote, I keep misremembering Ashlyn as Ashley, Tylor as Tyrone, and Logan as Gordon. To my knowledge I've not written them like this anywhere, but if I do accidentally do so, you'll know who I'm talking abt)
Bud loves to be on my desk, walking around, laying down when I am on Webex. I have to bat her tail out of the way, it’s both funny and embarrassing. I was cleaning out a drawer and found this, and thought a little cat seat would help calm her down.
you seem like the kinda guy who has a thing for dads. yknow, middle aged, receding hairline, wears a lot of flannel and probably is very proud of his expensive barbeque shit. you know the type.
Completely wrong. And dumb. Where is your evidence. Please stop
